Bands that well and truly hit you at the core - whether it's through crushing heaviness or pure emotional atmosphere - are very hard to come by nowadays, yet CANVAS' take on post-hardcore is as hard-hitting as it gets.

Not ones to shy away from getting their hands dirty within their own creations and taking a heavy DIY approach, the quintet have spent the last couple of years jumping in their van and playing shows anywhere and everywhere from clubs and houses, to garages and practice spaces.

Brand new instrumental prog artist BODHI streams debut EP
Promo Shot 2.jpg

Brand new instrumental prog artist BODHI is streaming his debut EP Ineffable ahead of release on August 25.

First premiered on HeavyBlogIsHeavy, you can listen to the EP here:

https://soundcloud.com/skyline-studios-indy/bodhi-ineffable-full-album-stream/s-SGHE6

Watch the video for 'Enamor' here: https://youtu.be/un-hL6P5H4A

The alter-ego of The Room Colored Charlatan guitarist Justin Seymour, BODHI is an entirely solo musical operation, conceived only at the beginning of 2017. Reminiscent of Plini, Polyphia, Intervals and other leaders in the melodic prog field, Ineffable is a glorious half-hour ride of uplifting and cathartic instrumentalism. Listen for example to the galloping, Animals As Leaders-esque opening to ‘The Texture of Motion’, or the powerful hit of the closing section of lead track, ‘Enamor’.

A musical departure from his original group in The Room Colored Charlatan, BODHI demonstrates an intent and exciting new solo talent with Ineffable. With TRCC, BODHI has played alongside TesseracT, Born of Osiris, The Contortionist, Jeff Loomis, Scale the Summit, and many more. Currently only a studio project, BODHI’s aptitude will surely see him scaling the ranks and joining the stage very soon.

You can purchase your copy of Ineffable here: https://bodhi2.bandcamp.com/album/ineffable

Vancouver Progressive Death Act NECK OF THE WOODS Release New Video
shot1.jpg

As Canadian progressive death metal outfit NECK OF THE WOODS prepare for the release of their debut album, The Passenger, through Basick Records on September 15 an official video for the album's 'You'll Always Look The Same To Me' has premiered through MetalSucks.

Watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=us8wWGQmL1E

A vibrant yet aggressive video that fits with the track's dynamic attack, the video for 'You'll Always Look The Same To Me' was directed and edited by Christopher Lennox-Aasen. Offers NECK OF THE WOODS on the song's lyrical direction: "The struggle does not become you, it only makes you stronger."

MetalSucks on the new track: "Their influences come from all over the prog metal spectrum (and beyond), and as such there really is no way to get any more specific. You'll be tempted to compare them to Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, Soilwork and even Every Time I Die... and then there's the guitar solo, which some straight up, epic Zakk Wylde shit. And that's just on this one track from an album of nine."

NECK OF THE WOODS release The Passenger, a crushing blend of progressive, death-inspired, technical, and groove-laden metal through nine engaging tracks via Basick Records on September 15th. Find pre-orders HERE.

Cult punk band MDC announce new album Mein Trumpf, the first in thirteen years
Promo1.jpg

Cult punk band MDC are back with their new album Mein Trumpf, to be released November 3rd via Primordial Records.

Pre-order the album here: http://primordialrecords.bigcartel.com/product/mdc-mein-trumpf-vinyl-pre-order

Listen to the lead single from the album here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUaJNjAc4HU

Formed in 1979, the underground legends are releasing their first new album in thirteen years with Mein Trumpf, a musical call to equality and a wake-up call to intolerance and hatred. In the band's own words, 'We are a Punk Bar Mitzvah band that goes political when times make us'.

Famed for their Rock Against Reagan involvement, MDC are back reflecting on the current state of the world, leading with their chant "No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA", repeated now at protests through the States, including by Green Day at the American Music Awards. Initially created by the band with their 1982 song 'Born To Die' as "No war, no KKK, no fascist USA", the chant has resonated with protestors throughout the years and proves the level of underground influence MDC have had on the history of American punk.

Fresh from a seven-week UK/EU tour, the band are to tour the USA in October - more details to be revealed soon.

Irish alt-rockers VERSIVE release new single 'Blind'
Versive 2017 Resize .jpg

Alt-rock quartet VERSIVE are thrilled to release their new single 'Blind', out now via Scylla Records. The single was produced by Four Year Strong's Alan Day after Versive toured with the band earlier this year.

"This song is intended as a bit of a takedown of people who blindly believe in anything at the expense of facts and empathy," the band explain. "Primarily with regard to religion and faith - but it could just as easily apply to media, politics, or any area of life where people are happy to remain wilfully ignorant of the reality that surrounds them. People who are so caught up in their beliefs they fail to think of how their actions and outlook impact others. We’re all struggling in life. The world is a bit of a mess. The stories we tell ourselves can seem like the perfect escape. And sure, if it’s something small that helps to you get through the day, then fine, but these things can have a ripple effect. Ignoring real world issues in favour of lies and fairytales isn’t helping anyone - it’s actively making things worse."

Check out 'Blind' here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isz5l5x-kWk

Purchase 'Blind' here: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/blind-single/id1259804532

See Versive on tour at one of the following shows:

17.08.2017 - Galway, Roisin (Headline show)
18.08.2017 - Belfast, Warzone (Headline show)
19.08.2017 - Dublin, Gypsy Rose (w/ Listener)
23.08.2017 - Derby, Hairy Dog (w/ Listener)
24.08.2017 - London, Oslo (w/ Listener)

Versive are formed of ex-members of Jody Has A Hitlist, The Upgrades, Downhill and All It's Worth; their sound is grittier than their previous rock ventures, making comparisons to the likes of Four Year Strong and Basement.

The band plan to fly Stateside later this year to record their debut full-length with Alan Day at Wachusett Recordings in Massachusetts - keep your eyes peeled for further details.

Paceshifters are notorious for bringing an audience to its feet in full appreciation. The tour will be the band's first UK run having previously appeared at high profile festivals such as Woodstock (Poland), GroezrockZwarte CrossPinkpopExitRock for People and SXSW; an impressive accolade in itself for a band at such a young age.

Inspired by the grunge movement that shook the foundations of alternative music, Paceshifters bring an innovative twist on the genre whilst also boasting the complete unadulterated attitude that it was renowned for.

Possessing a no-nonsense mentality since their inception, Paceshifters have evolved into a devoutly passionate new grunge-rock band with a sound that is sure to enthrall any listener who enjoys the heavier side of Nirvana with doses of powerful Incubus-esque melodies and riffs along with the grit and energy of Chevelle. However, drawing comparisons doesn’t do Paceshifters justice; where the band exhibit their gifted uniqueness in spades is throughout new album Waiting To Derail.

CANVAS confirm debut album details & reveal new song 'Medicate Me'
canvas.jpg

Post-hardcore five-piece CANVAS will release their debut album Worry via Basick Records on the 6th October 2017. To coincide with the announcement the band have revealed new single 'Medicate Me,' which follows previous single 'Hospital Beds'.

Originally premiered via the band's Facebook page, check it out here: https://youtu.be/-3ZTJFM6wxs

Pre-orders of Worry are live, with a limited edition black/white marble vinyl available exclusively via Basick Supplies. With other bundles also on offer get your copy of the album here: https://basick.supplies/collections/canvas

Vocalist Ricky Clarke says of the album:

"Worry is a record that exposes my anxieties about coming of age in the most honest way I could manage.

I feel everybody goes through a similar thought process in their early to mid-twenties. Constantly assessing where you're heading, comparing yourself to siblings & friends who in your mind, may have better opportunities or more ‘success’ than you. Seeing your friends marry, buy houses, have kids and achieve the ’normal’ life milestones, can be hard to witness when you're stuck in a rut. It can feel like the world is against you and no matter how hard you try, you just cant shake the feeling that you're being left behind.

I guess this record is my way of dealing with those feelings and how I felt at certain times living through it. If anyone picks this album up and it helps them realise it's okay and normal to feel this way then our job is done. I think sometimes its important to know that other people are feeling the same way as you. It’s okay to feel lost.

Worry is an album for every single person who feels inadequate, an outsider or alone."

CANVAS kick off their UK/European tour this week, see them live at one of the following dates:

17.08.2017 - Southampton UK, Joiners
