Hailing from Lincoln, UK, BORDERS are pushing to lead in a new era of heavy music, seamlessly blending genres and styles to forge a crushing yet melodic and unique experience. Since joining forces with new vocalist Jordan 'JJ' Olifent in 2016, BORDERS have been working hard impressing crowds across the UK and Europe with their energetic, powerful live performance. From playing sold-out hometown shows, to supporting Skindred and Whitechapel and appearing at UK Tech-Fest, BORDERS consistently electrify crowds as unchained force Olifent leads the indomitable machine. Lunging from the crowd to the mic and leaving no spot unclaimed, he bends the crowd to his will with gang chants, mosh pits and room splits. While performing alongside Martyr Defiled on their UK/EU farewell tour, Metal Hammer said of their live show: "[Borders are] boasting an energised stage presence and an armada of head-bang-inducing grooves."

Speaking out on modern issues of healthcare, austerity and corruption, the band's Diagnosed EP was released in 2017. It received glowing reviews from Metal Hammer and more, as well as gaining regular radio play on Kerrang’s Fresh Blood, where Alex Baker hailed BORDERS as "behemoths of tomorrow." The songwriting, catchiness, technical prowess and sheer brutality of the record were standout points for critics. The EP theme hit home for Olifent as his lyrical content reflected his own mother’s experiences with cancer and the healthcare system. After she beat the disease with only natural remedies and lifestyle changes, Olifent seeks to pose questions on trust in the healthcare system and the corporate greed that drives pharmaceutical companies to put profits before people.

Purify is an ambitious full-length record which documents a timeline of human corruption; from the wartime atrocities of the Japanese experimental death camps in '731', to modern day political corruption in war, all the way to a bleak vision of future potential healthcare systems in 'Wake Up'. Purify is a statement on the condition of the world today, yesterday and tomorrow that not only sounds incredible but might change the way you look at the world around you. Olifent muses on the development of human corruption; the barbaric human beginnings of mass slaughter against targeted groups may seem a world away to the average citizen, but not only do those atrocities still exist, but corruption and evil has further retreated and disguised itself behind closed doors. A disguise that is easily lifted with information and a willingness to challenge one's own beliefs. Purify is a call for a purge of corruption and a call for the average person to think more about the world they inhabit.

BORDERS are:

Jordan Olifent - Vocals
Gavin Burton - Guitars
Tom Britton - Bass
Daniel Hodson - Drums

Avandra announce new album and stream single featuring Kevin Moore (ex Dream Theater)
a5e8f7c2-62d6-4ba0-bfb9-73961d60dfec.jpg

Puerto Rican prog-metal band AVANDRA have announced the release of new album Descender via Blood Music and unveiled new single, 'Derelict Minds'.

Premiered by Prog MagazineDerelict Minds features ex Dream Theater keyboardist Kevin Moore. Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7b0m_iJ_kw

Pre-order Descender here: http://www.blood-music.com/store/

Having started as a one-man project by Christian AyalaAVANDRA were born from hurricane-fuelled strife, and now becoming one of the scene’s breakout acts. Given their humble origins, AVANDRA were never meant to play live. However, after releasing the band’s first record, Tymora, demand was so high that Ayala felt obligated to bring his work to life on stage in May of 2017. By the time their second show rolled around a few months, later Puerto Rico had been ravaged by Hurricane Maria. Alone in the dark, Christian wrote what became the second Avandra record, Descender.

Having gained international attention with their debut release, the band found themselves on multiple year end lists. One fan, Nelson Varas, the director of such award winning metal music culture documentaries in the Caribbean as Distorted Island, Metal Island, and Songs of Injustice, ended up writing to Blood Music about the band. Suddenly, an act with the most humble of beginnings found themselves signed to a top notch tastemaker label with the power to push them over the top. Avandra’s hard work was starting to pay off.

2018 was a whirlwind for the fledgling prog act as they travelled to New Hampshire to record their new album with Daniel Schwartz of Astronoid, then enlisting the mastering talent of the legendary Magnus Lindberg. Featuring guest spots from current and former members of Haken, Dream Theater, and Astronoid, the band seems poised to unleash something truly different and special. In the midst of it all, they even performed a hometown show in San Juan as opener for metal legends Orphaned Land. From out of the storm’s wreckage, Avandra have spent over a year preparing this stunning sophomore release, and shall soon come forth and unleash prog metal mayhem.

Tour dates to be announced soon.

LORD DYING to release new album via Entertainment One and stream new track
ce723676-eea6-42db-964e-505dc6759c11.jpg

"I found my place in space and time, a dream unseen to be alive." -- Mysterium Tremendum

Portland USA heavy metal unit LORD DYING will release their anticipated third studio album Mysterium Tremendum worldwide on 26th April via Entertainment One (eOne).

They are streaming new single 'Envy The End', check it out / share here: http://vevo.ly/5ZwtKv

Captured at Los Angeles' West Valley Recording Studios in August of 2018 with engineer Mike Plotnikoff (Fear Factory, In Flames) and mastered by Howie Weinberg (Slayer, Nirvana, Pantera, Red Hot Chili Peppers), Mysterium Tremendum is a monolithic, riff-heavy concept album boasting eleven heaving tracks examining the many facets of dying and what may or may not exist in the afterlife.

An emotionally satisfying record, lyrically and musically Mysterium Tremendum's exploration of death goes beyond the mere longing for it in order to see what lies beyond ('Lacerated Psyche' is about the death of Evans' sister). There are many layers to it - you might even find parallels between the record's concept and life itself. It's a journey. And in their quest to pursue death, LORD DYING have themselves found new life.

"We set out to write a record about life, and it ended up being about death," says LORD DYING guitarist/vocalist Erik Olson about the band's third studio album Mysterium Tremendum.

LORD DYING's Mysterium Tremendum will be released on CD, double LP, and digital formats. For pre-order options go to smarturl.it/LordDyingMT.

While the new record centres around death, it focuses more on what awaits us on the other side while also exploring our culture's fear of dying, and the struggles with our own mortality. The ideas for the concept have been kicking around for some time, but it's fitting that they're only now coming to fruition.

At the core of these Portland, Oregon, heavy metal titans is Olson and guitarist Chris Evans, who've been making music together since fifth grade. They formed LORD DYING before they had a name or a record when another Portland powerhouse Red Fang beckoned them to open some shows for them in 2010. Two records and countless live performances - including tours with Voivod and Crowbar - followed.

Mysterium Tremendum is the record Olson and Evans have wanted to make since the band's inception. It's easily LORD DYING's most musically diverse album, but one that could only be made following the band's jackhammer 2013 debut Summon The Faithless, and 2015's brooding Poisoned Altars. "It's more along the lines of what we wanted to do early on," says Evans.

LORD DYING was already beginning to expand its musical palette - including moodier interludes and Olson's expanded vocal range - but Olson says once the decision was made to make a concept record, he and Evans pushed themselves to match the themes musically and vocally. You'll hear it in songs like 'The End Of Experience' and the floating 'Severed Forever,' which sees Olson melodically doubling his vocals before returning to his trademark growl. Shorter interludes like 'Tearing The Fabric Of Consciousness' and 'Even The Darkness Went Away' are stunning and fragile, like nothing the band has ever done.

Olson and Evans worked tirelessly on the songs together over the course of a year-and-a-half, using programmed drum parts, and sending ideas back and forth. As Olson puts it, "It was the first time we were really able to put things under a microscope." The songs were all but ready by the time they headed to Los Angeles' West Valley Recording Studios in August of 2018 with engineer Mike Plotnikoff. L.A.-based bassist Matt Price and drummer Chase Manhattan jumped right in to bring these songs of death to life, and the results are huge and seamless.
