Las Vegas brutal death metal masters CORDYCEPS have premiered a new song for their crushing new track 'Maelstrom Of Hypocrisy' which features a guest performance from Mitch Harris of Napalm Death. The song is taken from the group's vicious forthcoming debut full length, Betrayal, which will see a 10th April release via Unique Leader.
Premiered via Metal Injection, check out 'Maelstrom Of Hypocrisy' here: https://youtu.be/wus6MDxA6aM
The band commented, "'Maelstrom of Hypocrisy' is a song that represents confronting the people in our lives that are deceptive and who wish us harm emotionally or physically. Musically the track was inspired by bands like Suffocation, Dying Fetus and Cerebral Incubation and it was written in a state of despair and frustration. This is a song about not giving up and what you can achieve when you are confronted with adversity."
Called "the new sound of terror" and "one of brutal death's most exciting new forces" by Black Dahlia Murder vocalist Trevor Strnad in his Obituarist column, CORDYCEPS have upped their devastating slamming heaviness and masterful technicality with their new effort. The 10 track album was recorded by Kirk Moll at The Alamo Recording Studio in Las Vegas, NV as well as Ryan Wechta at Alchemy Lab Studio. Betrayal was mastered by Troy McCosker (Ne Obliviscaris) with artwork being provided by Santiago Francisco Jaramillo.

Formed in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2014 with a vision of pure death metal extremity, CORDYCEPS spent their first two years in existence perfecting their sound, with the long hours of writing and methodical practice honing the group into a mature, cohesive unit before they entered the national stage. Their patience yielded the group’s debut EP Black Blood Butchery – an unmercifully devastating and relentlessly technical slab of audible violence, which was released on New Standard Elite Records in 2017.
The EP quickly garnered attention with Black Dahlia Murder vocalist Trevor Strnad writing in his Obituarist column “Black Blood Butchery is a veritable festival of blazing technicality and musical prowess. This is thinking man’s brutal death metal in every way.” With momentum quickly building CORDYCEPS embarked on a busy touring schedule which saw them perform at Chicago Domination Fest, Los Angeles Extinction Fest, Violent and Defiant Fest, and a successful tour alongside Cerebral Incubation.
The group caught the attention of Unique Leader in 2018 and began working on their debut full-length. After a line-up change and long, emotionally intense writing process the group is ready to unleash their finest work yet: Betrayal. With Betrayal, CORDYCEPS have elevated themselves into the pantheon of brutal death metal.

US crossover death thrashers PLAGUE YEARS will unleash their punishing Circle Of Darkness full-length via Entertainment One (“eOne”) on 22nd May 2020.
The band have also released new single 'Play The Victim'. Premiered via Decibel, watch the video here: https://youtu.be/nciMNIy_UJ4
Comments guitarist Eric Lauder, “With this record, I wanted to carve our own lane in metal. It’s darker, heavier, faster, and everyone crushed it from the performance to the production. This song is about that narcissistic person in everyone’s life. Someone who seems incredibly loyal but is just a shell of a person filled with darkness. You show them the same loyalty, but they stab you in the back. Then when it comes time to confront them they manipulate the situation and ‘Play The Victim.’”
Adds Decibel, “Like contemporaries Power Trip, PLAGUE YEARS turn chugging into an art form, making simple stomps feel like genuine riffs. The chugs bookend a thrasher of a song, which blazes as often as much as it breaks it down. Vocalist Tim Engelhardt sounds somewhere between Max Cavalera and Jamey Jasta. The music is similarly right between the metal and hardcore worlds; you’ll almost surely be able to find either side if you’re listening for it.”
Like an icepick to the face, PLAGUE YEARS arrives with an electric surge of sudden pain. An unrelenting end of the world assault of the cataclysmic convergence of thrash and hardcore, with bits of blackened death and midtempo madness to spare, the Detroit master blasters are here to crash the crossover party. Summoning the primitive spirit of the singular moment when the heaviest of metal first smashed into a circle pit, PLAGUE YEARS reignites the flame with sharp fury.
Many in the metal press have already christened the band heir apparent to crossover standard-bearers Iron Age and D.R.I., with the speed metal bite of Kreator and the overall bludgeoning of Slowly We Rot-era Obituary. As demonstrated in dimly-lit clubs and theatres alongside bands like Creeping Death and Skeletal Remains, PLAGUE YEARS mines the subterranean depths once unearthed on classic Sepultura albums like Beneath The Remains and Arise, with the vicious bite of Germanic slabs like In The Sign Of Evil by Sodom and the Hall of Fame ‘80s output of Slayer. Fellow Great Lakes State metal maven Trevor Strnad, of The Black Dahlia Murder, named the band’s Unholy Infestation EP one of his 100 favourites of 2018, a sentiment echoed by another scribe at Metal Injection the same year.
The devilish and down-tuned death worship within PLAGUE YEARS serves as a demonic calling card for the foursome; a brutal counterbalance to their otherwise like-minded thrash revivalists. On Circle Of Darkness, the band’s full-length debut, PLAGUE YEARS reunite with engineer Arthur Rizk, whose work with Power Trip, Tomb Mold, Candy, and Cavalera Conspiracy has propelled him to the front of the horde amidst the resurgence of crossover thrash.
PLAGUE YEARS pays homage to Detroit forebearers Negative Approach and modern contemporaries Hellmouth in equal measure while infusing the proceedings with a brutal spin of their own design. In terms of lyrical aggression, songs like 'Play The Victim' and 'Paradox Of Death' blend traditional death metal blood-and-gore fantasy with the unrestrained bravado of Detroit’s grittier contributions to rap, like LOM Rambo and Motown upstart Icewear Vezzo.
There’s dungeon torture in 'Witness Hell' and undead armies in 'Incantation.' Circle Of Darkness is a brutal, putrid ode to headbanging, boot-stomping, heavy metal culture. As Revolver declared in one of the magazine’s many passionate endorsements, PLAGUE YEARS “rips hard,” a compulsive death charge right into the fiery mouth of Hades. “Just try not to bang your head. We dare you.”

As the COVID-19 virus sweeps fear across the globe, BEGGAR are preparing to emerge from the anarchic underground of London, lobbing their brooding new single 'Blood Moon' in frustration into the faces of a panicked populace.
And the narrative of the single couldn't be more timely, focusing on hyper-charged consumption and a rampant, morbid thirst for the new. It considers the human with its augmented online identity as something like a virus that subsumes host after host in an unstoppable and unaccountable spree of osmosis and cannibalism.
Originally premiered via Invisible Oranges, you can listen to their new single 'Blood Moon' via Spotify or Youtube.
Propounding a kind of sludge-meets-extreme-metal pandemic of tar-thick riffs and groove, blasts, emotional vocal discharge and genre-bending brutality, the four-piece are set to release their debut album Compelled To Repeat on 3rd April via APF Records.
Pre-order Compelled To Repeat here: https://apfrecords.co.uk/albums/compelled-to-repeat
Comments vocalist Charlie Davis: "'Blood Moon' is a cryptic horror story about the erosion of the boundaries of the self in a sea of technology, information and media.
"Musically this song kicks off the album as we mean to go on – dissonant, angular, ugly, and then rolling, groovy, almost psychedelic. It charges out of the gate, rabid, then it turns into swagger and stomp."
Recorded with Wayne Adams (responsible for recent works by Green Lung, 11Paranoias and Terminal Cheesecake) at Bear Bites Horse, London and mastered by the master of noise himself, James Plotkin (Sunn O))), ISIS, Pelican and Earth), Compelled To Repeat is a fuming tornado of aggression and frustration, offering a glimpse into a new sphere of savagery.
Originally founded in Bristol in 2011 as a means of melding big riffs and grooves with a blackened mode of expression, BEGGAR have honed their bubbling hatred over a series of EPs into something that might defy categorisation altogether.
Impossible to fit solely within the sludge bracket, their sound nonetheless nods to the huge monoliths of tone that such a tag implies. More multi-faceted than the death metal or hardcore genres would allow, BEGGAR still use the sheer brutality and visceral dynamics of those styles as their primary means of propulsion. Fans of bands such as Iron Monkey, Eyehategod and Napalm Death will all find a comfortable auditory home with BEGGAR. Most will find it a hard journey and startlingly abhorent, but for the brave few lies a raucous audio initiation into the hellish world of BEGGAR.
BEGGAR will release their debut album, Compelled to Repeat, on 3rd April 2020 via APF Records. Preorder via APF Records or Bandcamp.

Canadian metal powerhouse IMONOLITH have unveiled their fourth single ‘Becoming the Enemy’, featuring Johannes Eckerström, from their highly anticipated debut album State of Being, due out 27th March.
Premiered via Heavy Consequence, check out 'Becoming the Enemy' here: https://consequenceofsound.net/2020/03/imonolith-becoming-the-enemy-avatar-johannes-eckerstrom/
“’Becoming the Enemy’ is a song about becoming your own worst enemy,” says drummer Ryan ‘RVP’ Van Poederooyen. “All of us have done it at some point of our lives. The point of the song lyrically is to learn from your mistakes instead of repeating them over and over.”
The lyric video for 'Becoming the Enemy' features a character called "The Sickness," who reprises his role from the 'Instinct' video, released in January.
“We continue the theme we started in ‘Instinct,’” RVP explains. “The theme of our album ‘State of Being’ is about how people deal with various states of being throughout their lives. We thought having ‘The Sickness’ appear in a couple videos would help tie everything together and tell a visual story to go along with the album as a whole.”
The forthcoming full-length State of Being features 10 hook-laden, riff-heavy tracks including 'Hollow,' the debut single that made big waves for IMONOLITH straight out of the gate, racking up 216K Spotify streams in 2019. Having spent much of 2019 writing, arranging, recording and fine-tuning State of Being, the band worked incredibly hard to achieve their goal - to make an engaging heavy metal album. With the release of the three singles thus far, IMONOLITH has begun receiving worldwide praise that has garnered them a massive number of streams and attention from the media and fans alike.

French melodic death metal unit TEMNEIN will release their third full-length, Tales: Of Humanity And Greed via Blood Blast on 22nd May.
The band have released 'Knotted Bag', the first single from the album. Listen here: YouTube and DSPs
Produced by “El Mobo” (Loudblast, ETHS, The Great Old Ones, Eryn Non Dae, etc.) at Conkrete Studio in Bordeaux, France, the engrossing ten-rack offering is thematically based on various stories, myths, and legends exploring classic childhood occidental fairy tales, unsung fables from Asia and Inuit lands, pop culture universes (ie Legend Of Zelda, Majora’s Mask, Doctor Who etc.), and so much more. Each story is linked however to a common theme: the repetition of human error and avidity across time. Musically, TEMNEIN here employs shorter song structures than previous offerings adding more dynamics to their melo-death foundation. More doom/death and post-metal influences have crept into the band’s sound consequently enhancing the overall atmosphere. The records comes swathed in the stunning artwork of Vincent Fouquet (Meshuggah, Kataklysm, Moonsorrow, Kampfar, Nordjevel etc).
Tales: Of Humanity And Greed will see a physical release by the band on 22nd May with worldwide digital distribution by Blood Blast, a new service powered by Nuclear Blast and Believe Music with preorders to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
Forged in France in 2009, TEMNEIN invokes the spirits of At The Gates, Dark Tranquillity, Ghost Brigade, Insomnium, Opeth, In Mourning, and the like while remaining singular in their output. The band have released two prior full-lengths: 404 B.C. (2014) through Mighty Music and White Stained Inferno (2017) through Massacre Records both of which reaped critical accolades from various international metal outlets. Of White Stained Inferno, Decibel Magazine wrote in part, “In addition to a slew of driving, main riffs, TEMNEIN fit in fancy leads, licks and melodies, furious and rhythmic drumming and plenty of vocals.” Added The Metal Observer, “The band effortlessly combine melody and aggression, delivering a number of fantastic songs that will live long in the memory.”
Over their decade-plus time together, TEMNEIN has toured through Europe, the UK, Russia, and Japan, including support slots with the likes of At The Gates, Beyond Creation, Hate, Mors Principium Est, The Crown, Svart Crown, and many others. The band has performed a host of European festivals including Durbuy Rock Festival, HRH Fest, AalborgRock & Metal Fest, and Loud Farm Fest with more live invasions to be announced in the weeks to come.

THE HIRSCH EFFEKT return with their new single, 'Noja', the first track from the band's 5th studio album, Kollaps, coming 8th May 2020 via Long Branch Records.
Watch the video for 'Noja' here: https://youtu.be/nZ_A03QVqYI
Kollaps follows the highly successful Eskapist album, which charted at #21 in Germany.
Kollaps encounters everyday madness with elaborate counterpoints and ludicrous lyric lines. The band tackle current social issues with a focus on the debate around the "Fridays For Future" movement.
'Noja' is now available as stream and download on all digital platforms. here;: thehirscheffekt.lnk.to/kollaps
THE HIRSCH EFFEKT comment on the single: "'Noja'– equivalent to panic or fear – makes an allusion to our musical roots. Partially, the song pays reminiscence to the band The Fall Of Troy. We actually even ended up dubbing some musical parts in the piece after their song names. The intro was firstly only an attempt to use a delay effect in a certain way, that musician Steven Wilson enthusiastically thematized in a rig rundown video on Youtube. Somehow this song suddenly came about from all of that. The rap part was originally performed by Nils in English and intended to be a spontaneous prank at a vocal session in our rehearsing space."
Kollaps will be available as Box-Set, CD/LP+T-Shirt Bundle, CD, 2LP, stream and download. Pre-order the album here thehirscheffekt.lnk.to/kollaps
THE HIRSCH EFFEKT's Nils Wittrock (guitar / vocals) about the album cover and title:
"Kollaps - the Swedish equivalent to "collapse" - is the name of a book, which I stumbled upon while doing research on the album's overall theme. In it, the author investigates why historical societies perish and designates conclusive factors, that could lead to a perishing of present-day societies. Remarkably, the man-made climate change ranks first, although the book saw the light of the day already fifteen years ago. As an example for an extinct, historical society, the inhabitants of the Easter Island also find mention in Kollaps. In line with this, the title track bears the same name. Together with the song "Torka" it tells its own, fictional story, that could have taken place at the mentioned site. For all titles on the album (except "Allmende") we chose a term that either derived from the Swedish language or existed in it itself, hereby alluding to the famous, Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg.
With Kollaps we once again continued our cooperation with American artist Alejandro Chavetta, with whom we've worked already for the past 11 years. To us as a band it's invaluable to receive such a unique artwork from album to album, that at the same time has become our corporate identity and indivisible from our semblance. Even if Alejandro's take on the cover of Kollaps turned out more colourful this time, it's obvious at first sight that it's a „The Hirsch Effekt“ album. The elements and the executions are fitting to and in line with the album theme, in which the movement of young adults and kids are lyrically thematized. Besides from the skull, which has become a recurring element in Alejandro's works for the band, dangerous and wild animals can be spotted as well as Latin terms for life and death. In between them the upper body of a man has been drawn to attention in a way, although surrounded by menace, may still have the control over the direction he's heading to.“
After their last album Eskapist (2017), which charted #21 on the German album charts, and formidable show-offs at Wacken Open Air, Full Force Festival and as recent headliners at the renowned Euroblast Festival, The Hirsch Effekt have now spawned their new ogre. Musically, the trio from Hanover, Germany, has once again settled in the microcosm of progressive metal and enhanced their songs with their typical trademark of – at first glance totally out of the line – genre-hopping.
Similar as on previous records, it happens again by Hirsch-style chopping of parts and beats, that first off felt safe and usual. In between chorals resound, helping to find one's way back to a necessary recollection. On the one side it's a euphonious, on the other side a hurting listening experience that leads to a heightened perception of the exposure of the human disorientation, and serves as a call to the solitary consciousness of courageous individuals - to gather together at concerts.
Live, this symbolic demise is celebrated purification. This can be celebrated together with the fans at upcoming shows, by the way of indulging unison and clamor, questioning oneself whether the own heart and thoughts have gone prone to egoism or still are in line with the harmony of hope, that is hidden within Kollaps.
Reformed in 2017 after a ten year hiatus, the UK's most devastating death/doom stalwarts, ATAVIST, triumphantly return in 2020 with a brand new studio album. Titled III: Absolution, the album will be released via Candlelight Records on 19th June and is the band's third full length, coming almost thirteen years after their highly acclaimed 2007 release, II: Ruined (Profound Lore Records).
Preorders are now available: https://Atavist.lnk.to/IIIAbsolution
Ahead of the album the band have released the single 'Self Realisation' which can be heard here: https://Atavist.lnk.to/IIIAbsolution
III: Absolution comprises four mammoth new tracks of heavy, emotive and atmospheric death/doom metal reminiscent of the ATAVIST's early history, but also incorporating the progression of a band who have grown as musicians and writers over the last decade; in a variety of other extreme metal projects.
Featuring Winterfylleth guitarist and vocalist, C. Naughton, along with bassist S. Ryan, drummer C. Cox and vocalist T. Bradshaw, their creative forces meld once again on III: Absolution. ATAVIST present something otherworldly, unique and sonically powerful on this album; highlighting, even after so long, a band capable of creating uncompromising and essential music that can still rival its peers' at the top of the genre.
Guitarist C. Naughton commented: "This is a soundtrack that travels through the depths of human emotion, from losing everything, mourning loss, realising your own mind, right through to finding your way again. Ultimately finding Absolution at the end of that journey. There is no joy here, only relief at the end of an arduous voyage."
III: Absolution also features the haunting string performances of prominent solo artist Jo Quail on Cello (Mono/My Dying Bride), as well as the exceptional talents of Bianca Blezard on Viola/Violin (Winterfylleth). The album furthermore incorporates some new twists and turns along the way, featuring a number of moving, atmospheric, synth landscapes from the ever talented Winterfylleth/ARD keyboardist Mark Deeks, to complement the doom.
Recorded and produced by the legendary Chris Fielding (Primordial/Napalm Death/Winterfylleth/Electric Wizard) @ Skyhammer & Foel Studios, and mastered by James Plotkin (Khanate/Jodis/Old Lady Drivers), this album is a true essential for all fans of the genre.
III: Absolution will be released via Candlelight Records on 19th June. Preorder now: https://Atavist.lnk.to/IIIAbsolution

Progressive alt-pop artist JULIA MARCELL shares her new digital single, 'Nostalgic', the third single taken from the new studio album, Skull Echo, coming 27th March 2020 via Long Branch Records.
Listen to 'Nostalgic' here: https://youtu.be/4NCI2o7V9xs
Pre-order the new album Skull Echo here: juliamarcell.lnk.to/skullecho
Julia commented: "Thinking about my own nostalgia makes me wonder, how much do I actually long for the real thing? How much of what I remember, I make up? This song happens in the 80s, when life was like a music video and everybody lived in New York lofts."
JULIA MARCELL’s upcoming album Skull Echo was recorded in Berlin with producer Michael Haves, drummer Thomas Fietz and bassist Thomsen Slowey Merkel. Mostly electronic, the record features a huge, cinematic sound, sweeping pop melodies and futuristic production, but the subject matter is very intimate and emotional.
Julia about the project: "Skull Echo is a story about time, perception and loneliness. About heads in which we are trapped, building our image of the world through our senses - full of uncertain information, selectively remembered and freely transformed. It is a story of longing for another person."
Along with music came an idea for a film. The topics discussed on the album inspired Julia to write a screenplay for a feature with the same title, which she is currently developing with film producer Natalia Grzegorzek from Koskino.
JULIA MARCELL is a singer-songwriter and a writer/director living between Berlin and Warsaw. Her work has been released in Poland, Germany, Austria and Switzerland and appreciated by the audiences, colleagues and tastemakers around the world. She's won Fryderyk (Polish Grammy) for Best Alternative Album, with seven other nominations in different categories. JULIA MARCELL has also received the prestigious Paszport Polityki Award in popular music and Grzegorz Ciechowski Award.
Her last short film Night Herald premiered at 2018's Achtung Berlin and won Best Editing at 2nd Great Message International Film Festival in India. Currently MARCELL is developing her feature length directorial debut Skull Echo with producer Natalia Grzegorzek from Koskino.
JULIA MARCELL and her band have toured extensively across Poland and Germany, but they've also visited Japan, Finland, Holland, Portugal, UK and USA among other places. They've played SXSW, Reeperbahn Festival, CO-POP, Open’er Festival, Męskie Granie, and other festivals around the world.

Having risen from smoky basements to packed arenas, 1000mods can be considered no less than the most successful Greek rock band of the past decade.
Deriving equally from the glorious 90's and the 70's (not only songwriting-wise but also due to their love for vintage equipment and analogue sound), 1000mods have never hesitated to blend all their influences. Retro-rock and doom rock, hard and space rock melded with grunge and alternative create a recipe of explosive heavy music that’s impossible to imitate.
1000mods offer inspired, powerful and uniquely fresh heavy tunes, satisfying everyone from stoners to metalheads, for over a decade. Their debut Super Van Vacation (2011) is now considered a classic in European heavy rock, as well as a game-changer for Greek rock music, selling tens of thousands of copies.
Praised by fans and press throughout the globe, the band's previous release Repeated exposure to... (2016) affirmed their place within European heavy rock and roll. The band went on to tour the US in February-March 2018, following that with a sold-out tour of Australia.
Boasting millions of streams and fans worldwide, 1000mods are stepping up with Youth of Dissent, a fearsome blend of taut songwriting, hard-hitting riffs, haunting melodies and hefty psychedelia.
