Irish dream-grunge trio BITCH FALCON release new single 'How Did I Know
bitch_falcon_press_cg_06.jpg

BITCH FALCON are a name you will not forget, and a band who will not let you forget them. The exciting new dream-grunge trio have streamed their single 'How Did I Know', taken from their forthcoming debut LP, Staring At Clocks, to be released 6th November via Small Pond Records.

Premiered via Dead Press, you can stream 'How Did I Know' here via Spotify.

Of the track, frontwoman Lizzie Fitzpatrick says:

“I wrote ‘How Did I Know’ as an expression of frustration around someone I love and their problems. Although I suffer from my own demons, sometimes it can be frustrating to see someone you love give up everything they are and what you love about them. ‘How Did I Know’ refers to not knowing what to do in these circumstances, perhaps a childish defence to dire situations. When someone you love is at the edge of your grasp, it can be so terrifying that your reaction is to let go.”

The new track follows the release of BITCH FALCON's previous singles 'Martyr', 'Gaslight' and 'Test Trip':

Slightly grungy, slightly dreamy, the rockers have made great waves over the last few years, with acclaim from Dublin Inquirer, Irish Times, The Guardian, Paste Magazine, Knotfest.com, and many more. The trio have played with Girl Band, Fontaines DC, Torche, Black Peaks, Pussy Riot and display touches of St Vincent, 2:54, My Bloody Valentine, The Pixies and Bjork all in one scintillating package.

BITCH FALCON were formed by frontwoman Lizzie Fitzpatrick in Dublin in 2014, and are mainstays of the festival circuit in both Ireland and abroad (packing out rooms in the US, Canada and Europe). Since these freshman days, the lineup has galvanised around the rhythm section of Barry O'Sullivan on Bass and Nigel Kenny on Drums.

From the early days of their first single, 'Wolfstooth' to their most recent release 'Test Trip', an evolution in sound can be heard as the group perfect and refine their raw, fuzz-laced offerings over six singles and one EP.

There are few things conventional about BITCH FALCON, a band for whom otherworldly is a very fitting adjective - at least on record. The trio's live show must be seen to get a true appreciation for what this band can do, from the high-pitched wails and infinite feedback of Lizzie's guitar and soaring vocals, to the interplay between shattering bass and thunderous drums - there is very little left of any stage untouched. It's a rare group who manage to be so ethereal and devastatingly heavy simultaneously - but then again, BITCH FALCON are an unforgettable name.

Artwork was created by Lizzie Fitzpatrick; mixed by Grammy-nominated engineer Alex Newport (At The Drive In, The Mars Volta, Death Cab for Cutie, The Melvins, Frank Turner) and mastered by Magnus Lindberg.

Greece's leading prog metal band NEED announce new LP
Need promo 2.jpg

Greece’s leading prog metal group NEED return with their long-awaited fifth album, Norchestrion: a song for the end on January 12th, 2021, via Ikaros Records.

Norchestrion will be released on digipack CD, double vinyl LP (with a limited edition of golden vinyl), a limited edition boxset, and on all digital platforms.

The first glimpse of the record, lead single 'Nemmortal', will be released 5th November, alongside pre-orders via Bandcamp.

5th November is no random date - it holds a special place in the band's heart as it's the date of their first live show in 2005, making the release of 'Nemmortal' their 15th anniversary.

In honour of the anniversary, NEED will re-release all their out-of-stock back catalogue. More news on this soon.

Norchestrion follows NEED’s critically acclaimed LP Hegaiamas: a song for freedom, and is by far the band’s most ambitious and adventurous album to date.

Throughout Norchestrion’s 66-minute run-time, fans will see NEED experiment with new elements, whilst maintaining the characteristics that have – in their fifteen years of existence – made them one of Greece’s most fêted rock groups.

The touring cycle of Hegaiamas resulted in an impressive 72 shows worldwide, including a 24-date run across the USA and Canada, and then a 22-date EU run, both with Sweden's Evergrey. NEED also performed at the 20th Anniversary Edition of ProgPower Europe (Netherlands) and SoundArt Fest (Romania). The band also supported Fates WarningPain of Salvation, and Coroner in Greece, and undertook multiple headline tours across their home country and throughout Eastern Europe – including headlining Prog Over Athens in late 2017.

Elements of the best of modern melodic prog and powerful symphonic metal combine to create a thrilling and highly rewarding listen in Norchestrion: a song for the end. Elements of Dream TheaterPain of Salvation, and Nevermore can be heard, all while remaining uniquely NEED.

Cover art was created by Dimitris Tsoutsas, who is also responsible for the artwork of Orvam: a song for home and The Wisdom Machine. The album's mix and master was handled by Hector D at hd factory.

NEED are:

Jon Voyager - vocals
George Ravaya - guitar, vocals
Anthony Hadjee - keyboards, vocals
Stelios Paschalis - drums
Viktor Kouloubis - bass

PILLORY release new single 'Imminent Obliteration' and announce album details
screenshot pillory.png

Boston death metal one-man project PILLORY returns with new single 'Imminent Obliteration' and announces long-awaited third album Scourge on Humanity, set for release on December 18th via Unique Leader Records.

Watch the video to 'Imminent Obliteration' here: https://youtu.be/nOXOUYO0DFo

PILLORY mastermind Darren Cesca (Deeds of Flesh, Arsis, Burn in Silence, Goratory) comments on the single's concemt: "'Imminent Obliteration' is part one of the final piece of the album's 12 minute closer. It’s an aggressive entry to get things started. It details the final days, the last remnants of our life cycle. It represents the storms of fire, which we unleash upon ourselves. The lyrics characterize nuclear war, planned for profit and the fallout that results from that. It seemingly takes us by surprise yet at the same time we always saw it coming."

On the music, Darren continues: "Musically this track touches on several elements from throughout the record. Each instrument goes through a wide range of timing and tempo changes to help tell that story. This record was written and composed in a very organic way and I wanted to first release a track that shows that progression and journey. It sets the mood for the end of the album and the 3three preceding pieces that follow.  Each PILLORY album for me is an experimental, extreme, grindy, death metal experience. Enjoy the ride."

New album Scourge on Humanity fuses technical wizardry and relentless power in this multi-sensory auditory onslaught. A physically and mentally demanding listen, the album features eleven tracks of sweeping leads and deranged rhythms which combine deep chugs and brutal blastbeats, all executed with near surgical meticulousness to make one of the most intense death metal releases of the year.

Following on from the highly acclaimed sophomore album Evolutionary Miscarriage in 2014, PILLORY has further refined his ability to crush and confuse on this release.

WITHIN THE RUINS release video for new single 'Black Heart'

Progressive deathcore unit WITHIN THE RUINS have streamed their new video 'Black Heart'. The track is taken from their long anticipated sixth full-length, Black Heart, due for release via Entertainment One (eOne) / Good Fight Music on 27th November.

Watch the 'Black Heart' video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5dIOnTuRWY

Pre-order Black Heart here: https://lnk.to/withintheruins-blackheart

Comments vocalist Steve Tinnon of the poignant track and accompanying video, “We’re extremely excited to release the video for the title-track to our new album, Black Heart! We really enjoyed making this one and getting to tell a bit more of the story behind the music. It’s a very angry, personal song, and a lot of the tracks stem from what it’s about. It’s an important track in regards to the overall theme of the record, and we couldn’t be happier with how the video turned out!”

The track 'Black Heart' serves as the second single off the album and incorporates some relatively unfamiliar territory for the band: clean singing. Known for their technical progressive prowess and intricately laid melodic foundations, bassist Paolo Galang showcases his vocal range through an undeniably catchy clean chorus, complimenting their instrumentation and Steve Tinnon's aggressive vocals. The refined writing is on full display here, balancing inventive and chaotic.

Watch WITHIN THE RUINS' previously-released single here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAK5c1FAiGQ

The mission statement for album six was simple: domination. WITHIN THE RUINS set out to top themselves, in every conceivable way, and with the suitably titled Black Heart, they succeeded.

Savage, ruthless, unrelenting, and hyper-focused, WITHIN THE RUINS hammers home ten songs of sheer terror with an unforgiving mandate to destroy. Combining the breakneck precision of classic slabs like Invade and Elite with the unrestrained raw aggression of Halfway HumanBlack Heart emerges from the most extended space between records with remarkable urgency and energy.

For more than a decade, WITHIN THE RUINS has reigned among the elite of modern death metal, injecting the angsty attack of thrash and the attitude of hardcore punk, while mining the best of deathcore. Audiences quickly grew to understand that WITHIN THE RUINS overlaps into several extreme subgenres without limitations from any of them. The determination and skill evident across their six studio albums and three EPs are outmatched only by their devastating live presence, seen on tours with groups like Killswitch Engage, The Black Dahlia Murder, Suicide Silence, and As I Lay Dying.

Vocalist Steve Tinnon arrived for his full-length debut with a mountain of things to get off his chest, screamed throughout the songs with both intensity and dexterity. He previously fronted another band that included WITHIN THE RUINS bassist/vocalist Paolo Galang, making this version of the outfit a supergroup of sorts, combined with co-founders, guitarist Joe Cocchi and drummer Kevin McGuill. As with previous records, Cocchi produced his parts as well as his bandmates, together with longtime producer, mixer, and mastering engineer Joshua Wickman of Dreadcore Productions.

New powerhouses like 'Domination,' 'Deliverance,' 'Hollow,' and 'Outsider' take their place alongside WITHIN THE RUINS anthems like 'Gods Amongst Men,' 'Beautiful Agony,' and 'Enigma.' The group stands tall among their peers in post-modern death metal, technical progressive metal, and the so-called 'deathcore' movement, with Gojira like flourishes of colour and meditation.

Black Heart will be released on CD, LP, and digital formats. For pre-order options, visit THIS LOCATION.

Further info:

Born and bred in the same heavy metal fertile Northeast soil as New Wave Of American Heavy Metal progenitors Killswitch Engage and All That RemainsWITHIN THE RUINS charted their own course in the genre, offering a unique take on familiar ingredients: the dark sounds of classic death metal; the technical melodicism of Scandinavia; and the precision staccato crunch of Meshuggah. In contrast to much of the genre, they maintain an emphasis on the songs over the shred. Showmanship and diversity coexist, smartly sidestepping contrived or predictable sonic choices.

WITHIN THE RUINS represents the pinnacle of possibility when a band keeps their feet firmly rooted in the foundations of modern death metal, chews upon tidbits of classic thrash, and all the while reach upward to grasp toward new creative heights of their own design, with hunger and skill.

All Music praised the band’s debut album, 2009’s Creature, likening it to Master Of Puppets played “twice as fast.” Sputnik Music called 2010’s Invade “high on technicality” and drew a comparison to Meshuggah. Reviews were even stronger for their third opus. Concluded Under The Gun, “If there’s one deathcore album to listen to in the early quarter of 2013, it’s Elite.” Album four arrived just a year later and Substream fittingly declared, “In the simplest terms, Phenomena is freaking phenomenal.” Halfway Human was a super-strength strike against complacency and conformity. There were rich moments of vibe more in common with the early thrash attack of the ‘80s than the processed sounds of today, right down to the moment when someone yelled “guitar!” before a solo. Black Heart keeps a hint of that looseness, while still monstrously crushing, with huge riffs galore.

The songs themselves are deadly serious, but the boys in the group carry on the equally important metal tradition of having a good time. They blend beer and breakdowns with easy-going charm, and camaraderie with other bands and fans. WITHIN THE RUINS are refreshingly authentic, feverishly committed, and built to endure. Filled with power, deserving of utter respect, armed with concise compositions and technical might, these Massachusetts metal merchants will not be stopped.

Joe Cocchi – guitars
Kevin McGuill – drums
Paolo Galang – bass, vocals
Steve Tinnon – vocals

In the band's own words: “This album is about telling stories that are presented through the lens of hindsight, regret and looking back. There are songs that celebrate life when faced with death, and others that speak to the choices we make about how we live our lives. The fear of love, newfound respect for life and the covering up of depression are all subjects that rear their head. The Greatest Mistake Of My Life exercises emotion in many ways, and that was an important thing for us to do, because emotion isn’t rigid – it’s not just love or joy or sadness – it’s a lot of things.”

Former Cynic / Exivious trio OUR OCEANS release new single and 90s inspired video
unnamed (2).jpg

Dutch rock trio OUR OCEANS have released new single 'Weeping Lead', taken from their upcoming album While Time Disappears, out 27th November via Long Branch Records.

Singer / guitarist Tymon Kruidenier comments on 'Weeping Lead': "'Weeping Lead' is one of my favourite songs on the album, both from a musical as well as a lyrical perspective. Conceptually, it’s quite a paradoxical song. On the one hand, it’s about the deadening numbness of depression, where suicide seems like the only way out. On the other hand, it’s about the realization that true purpose and meaning can only be found in overcoming sorrow and allowing yourself to transform that dark energy into things of beauty. On a side note; ‘lead’ refers to the metal here, so most people will probably mispronounce this song’s title before they hear me sing it."

On the video, Tymon continues: "This gloomy and shadowy music video was once again directed by our friend Job Kuizenga. We were aiming for a 90s inspired look and feel as you can clearly tell from the 4:3 aspect ratio and the VHS glitches. Fun fact is that there were no digital effects used in the production. The hazy look was attained by filming through various drinking glasses while the VHS look comes from running the video through a real VHS player while holding magnets close to the tape and pushing around the tape heads."

OUR OCEANS were formed by singer & guitarist Tymon Kruidenier (Cynic, Exivious). Joining him on bass and drums are his former Exivious colleagues, Robin Zielhorst (Cynic, Onegodless) and Yuma van Eekelen (Brutus, Pestilence).

OUR OCEANS' inventive progressive rock centres on haunting vocal melodies that carry heartfelt cries of longing, anger and despair. Bolstered by lyrical fretless bass lines, vigorous drum beats and captivating guitar riffs, OUR OCEANS lace singer/songwriter influences with modern, progressive rock elements. Mindful musicianship and introspective lyrics are woven into a deeply melancholic, yet uniquely expansive musical universe.

Australian metal trio GROWTH stream new single/video
_MG_0034.jpg

Australian metal trio GROWTH have released their new single / video 'Cigarette Burns', taken from their stunning debut LP, The Smothering Arms of Mercy, which will be released 4th December via Australia’s progressive music specialists Wild Thing Records.

The band says: “Cigarette burns leave a mark to remember. It’s also a term in cinema for special markers in a roll of film - they let the projectionist know it's time to change the rolls over, to continue the show. It seems to make sense to reflect on our wounds, so we do it with abandon. We dwell on traumas, invite our ghosts to play out their horrors in front of us in circular fashion, until those circles are spinning so viciously their edges cut us into pieces. It’s no life to live. It's time to change the film.

Luke Frizon - frontman - says of the music video: “We're thrilled to have worked with Adrian Goleby for this clip, he's got fantastic skills and a great sense of vision. The clip itself features a bunch of our good mates from the very cool band Hadal Maw. One of our members decided to dislocate his knee a few hours into the weekend-long shoot... That member was me. I don't think much was achieved by this but I stand by my decision.

GROWTH will release a trilogy of albums that explore the very human aspects of connection, trauma, despair, and the fragility of hope.

Even the strongest pillar caves. Even the iron heart shatters. GROWTH's debut release, The Smothering Arms of Mercy, is the first in their narrative trilogy that details in honesty the extremity of recovery from mental illness. Mercy delivers a ferocious depiction of suffering, designed to draw the listener in with the Barnes brothers' paralysing and traumatic vision, suffocating and vulnerable all at once.

Self-recorded, produced and engineered in Australia, with drums engineered by Troy McCosker (Ne Obliviscaris),and mixed & mastered by Fredrik Nordstrom (Opeth) in Gothenburg, Sweden, the landscape presented in Mercy is nightmarish-dense with jarring time signatures, grinding abrasiveness, and wistful post-metal passages, and led by the visceral howling of vocalist Luke Frizon detailing a vivid story of hope and loss drawn directly from lived experience.

GROWTH began as a reflective space for brothers Tristan (guitars/bass) and Nelson Barnes (drums) who were united after returning to Australia after a decade apart pursuing music overseas. Tristan returned to come to terms with his personal demons and after receiving a mental health diagnosis that hit with closure and terror all at once, he became a recluse. Isolated and debilitated, he expressed his pain through writing. Meanwhile, vocalist Luke Frizon (ex Jack The Stripper) had withdrawn from life to enter a period of recovery after reaching rock bottom, seeking to reconnect with himself and make meaning of hopelessness, trauma and loss.

A chance meeting on a mutual first outing from respective isolation sparked a discussion about the empathetic aspects of music and quickly led to a partnership and GROWTH were formed.

The result is The Smothering Arms Of Mercy, a claustrophobic narrative of total spiritual collapse written while in psychiatric care and thrown over nine suffocating acts.

Luke Frizon delves deep in to 'Something Follows'' meaning:

"There's a crucial moment in this album I wanted to get across here. Our figure in this has realised they are losing in a pursuit they don't understand-some force seeks to devour them. When in a state of despair, we find ourselves snared by the ideas it brings forward-punitive, brutal, painful. Quietly enraged by that pain, awash in the injustice of it all-the most awful outcome is when we fuse that rage with that suffering. The force lurking around the corner in this case is the end. Now, that's not where you want to be. Something Follows shows us what our figure will be faced with when forced to reach that decision either to collapse, or make one last push to break through."

The Smothering Arms of Mercy will be released on 4th December via Wild Thing Records

RISING INSANE deliver music in a dualistic manner: post-hardcore inspired rage is coupled with melancholic overtones, creating a sound that is irresistible to fans of melodic and aggressive modern metal.

A band with hardworking DIY roots, RISING INSANE released debut album Nation in June 2017 which quickly earned them shows with the likes of The Devil Wears Prada, For Today, Stray from the Path and more. The DIY struggle further inspired the band and fuelled their determination, which paid off with them earning a German and Austrian tour with Annisokay at the end of 2018 and a slot at Impericon Festival 2019.

Strengthened by the energy of this ride, they produced and recorded their second album, Porcelain, which was released on 1st November 2019 via Long Branch Records. Still inspired by self initiative and DIY work ethic, Porcelain is the most honest, inspiring and haunting music RISING INSANE have ever written.

Ulf Hedenkamp - Bass
Sven Polizuk - Guitar
