Dark electronic master Perturbator, aka James Kent, has released new single 'Excess', from his highly-anticipated new full-length album, Lustful Sacraments, out 28th May via Blood Music.

Watch the visualiser for 'Excess' here: https://youtu.be/b6xi7T93Qr4

Stream 'Excess' here: https://perturbator.lnk.to/excess

Kent commented on the track "Excess is the first track I made for Lustful Sacraments. It is the most representative of the rest of the album and its themes of self-destruction."

Perturbator has also announced the Excess EP, featuring reimaginations of 'Excess' by some of his favourite artists: Author & Punisher, HEALTH, Pig Destroyer, INVSN, She Past Away and OddZoo.

Author & Punisher's version of 'Excess' has also been released today, listen to it here: https://youtu.be/mNS14Uwk7hA

On the covers EP, Kent continues: "With the album version of 'Excess' being released, I thought it would be interesting to add something unusual and asked bands that I respect to make their own cover of the song. They had complete freedom to do as they pleased and put their own spin on it. Each version is unique but all equally great."

Author & Punisher commented on the cover: “I jumped at the chance to add a little doom to the darkness that is Perturbator: I cut the BPM literally in half....like taking a piece of gum out of your mouth, stepping on it, walking in the red light district and then giving it another go.”

Tracks from the Excess EP will be released one-by-one over the next few months, with a final release date in the 2nd half of 2021.

New album Lustful Sacraments - which was written, performed, produced and mixed by Kent - represents his most mature work to date, merging the dark synthesised tones that brought Perturbator to worldwide prominence with classic post-punk, goth, and heavy techno rhythms. The album deftly weaves Perturbator’s cinematic textures with thundering drums, subtle electronic melodies and in-your-face guitar hooks.

Lustful Sacraments also features special guest appearances from Hangman's Chair and True Body.

Album pre-orders, which include both a gatefold 2LP and a 2LP picture disc as well as a cassette, CD and digital release, are available here: http://www.blood-music.com/store
A number of regional, limited-edition vinyl variants are also available now: Red 2LP (Europe) via various European retailers, Cream 2LP (Australia) via Nervegas, Cognac 2LP (France) via Season of Mist’s webstore, Yellow 2LP Record Store Day (U.S.A.), Orange 2LP UK retail exclusive, and a Crash Records (UK) Silver 2LP variant.

Dark electro master Perturbator is considered by many as the face of retrosynth.

In 2012, Perturbator's onslaught of initial releases ('Night Driving Avenger,' 'Terror 404,' 'Nocturne City,' and 'I Am the Night') rocketed him through the ranks of retrosynth producers – receiving tons of accolades and comparisons to John Carpenter, Goblin, and Vangelis. As he continued to hone his skills as a producer, Perturbator actively searched for something deeper within electronic music.

This took a darker turn with his 2014 smash breakthrough Dangerous Days and went deeper into the mire with 2016's Billboard-chart topping The Uncanny Valley. But James “Perturbator” Kent was feeling the limitations of the genre he helped redefine.

The 2017 album New Model eschews the nostalgia and pop culture references controlling the synthwave scene, feeling that they interfere with true subject matter. Of course, there are a vast array of influences at work on New Model - ranging from Kraftwerk to Lorn to D.A.F and Nine Inch Nails – but Kent wanted to break out and explore releasing music on its own merit, rather than regurgitating tropes.

2021 will see the release of a new Perturbator album, more details soon.

UK Tech-Fest moved to 2022
unnamed - 2021-04-30T123523.311.jpg

UK Tech-Fest has postponed this year's event to 2022, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. UK Tech-Fest will now take place on 30th June - 4th July 2022, at the Newark Showground. Tickets for 2021 will be valid for the 2022 event.

Tickets for UK Tech-Fest 2022 can be purchased here: http://uktechfest.gigantic.com/

The organisers have released the following statement:

"It breaks our hearts to bring you this news that UK Tech-Fest 2021 is cancelled. UK Tech-Fest will now take place Thursday 30 June – Monday 4 July 2022. We’ve been exploring all options to make the festival happen this year, but plain and simply there’s just too much stacked against us.

"We’re not the first to cancel and sadly we won’t be the last, as the main factor for us all is insurance. We really wish we had a crystal ball and could see what will happen in June. Going by the roadmap, in theory we should be fine, but the fact that the Government haven’t put their money where their mouth is and cough up a Government-backed insurance scheme for the festival and live events industry, says it all. As a small, independent festival we can’t afford to take the financial risk without the security and protection from such a scheme.

"And then there’s the bands, many of our international artists have had to cancel their shows and can’t travel to the UK. We’ve explored booking a UK line-up but (while that would be awesome) there’s still the big risk without insurance.

"Current ticket holders – your tickets will automatically be valid for 2022 and refunds will be available to those who wish. Thank you to those who rolled their tickets over last year or donated their tickets, if you are able to do so again this year we would be extremely grateful.

"For all ticket enquiries check out our FAQs:
https://uktechfest.com/faqs or email
tickets@uktechfest.com

"Tickets for 2022 – we’re delighted to announce we have instalment tickets available so you can pay for your ticket monthly from now to June 2022. It’s been a hard year so we hope this helps spread the cost.
http://uktechfest.gigantic.com/

"If you can support us further we would love you to check out our new merch store – lots of discounts and bundles available!

"Stay safe and we’ll see you in Newark next year. Much love, the
Tech-Fest Team"

About UK Tech-Fest

Following the huge success of the first UK Tech-Fest selling out in 2012, the festival went outdoors in 2013 hosting headliners Scar Symmetry, Veil Of Maya and TesseracT. 2014 saw UK Tech-Fest move to the prestigious Newark Showground hosting Sikth's second show after their reunion, and the following year UK Tech-Fest 2015 hosted an exclusive UK appearance from Decapitated. UK Tech-Fest 2016 - The Fifth Anniversary - was a milestone in this festival's career, by far their biggest and best edition to date hosting Animals As Leaders and exclusive appearances from Between The Buried And Me and Protest The Hero. UK Tech-Fest 2017 had its heaviest line-up to date, 2018 had its largest ever attendance and in 2019 solidified its reputation as the UK's most forward thinking metal festival.

Finnish metalcore quintet Atlas release video for new single 'Taivaanranta'
PROMO2021 - 2000px.png

Finnish metalcore quintet Atlas have released a video for their brand new single 'Taivaanranta'. The track is the first taste of the band's upcoming album, due for release in Autumn 2021 via Long Branch Records.

Watch the video for 'Taivaanranta' here: https://youtu.be/Ii-NErBF4Q4

Stream 'Taivaanranta' here: https://orcd.co/atlas_taivaanranta

Guitarist Tuomas Kurikka comments:

"'Taivaanranta' is a song about loss, pain and the journey of grief. It's our way of honouring those we've loved and lost. My dad was a father figure to everyone in the band and his sudden passing in the summer of 2020 was devastating to us. He came to every show he could and always supported us no matter what. I think he believed in the band even more than we did. We know he'd be proud of us and the song."

Atlas are a five-piece modern metalcore band from Tampere, Finland labelling themselves as 'Northcore'. The quintet's sound combines mammoth riffs and gloomy soundscapes, that draw inspiration from the cold of the North. Their releases include 2016 EP Northern Lights, 2018 standalone singles 'Birthright' and 'The Catalyst' and debut full-length Primitive, as well as their 2019 single trilogy.

The band have played throughout Europe with the likes of Monuments, Miss May I, VOLA, Kadinja, Adept, Eskimo Callboy, One Morning Left and We Butter The Bread With Butter. Their debut album Primitive climbed the Finnish album charts to number six and came to life on a European tour with Monuments, receiving praise from fans and critics alike.

Metal trio Urne release video for 'Desolate Heart'
unnamed - 2021-04-30T100623.539.jpg

London metal trio Urne have released a studio video for current single 'Desolate Heart', taken from their upcoming debut album Serpent & Spirit, set for release on 25th June via Candlelight Records.

Capturing the atmosphere of the Serpent & Spirit recording sessions, watch the video to 'Desolate Heart' here: https://youtu.be/YA58tDXz-9Y

Stream 'Desolate Heart' and pre-order Serpent & Spirit here: https://URNE.lnk.to/SerpentandSpiritPR

The video footage was filmed by guitarist Angus Neyra during the Serpent & Spirit recording sessions in Oct 2020 at Foel Studio in Wales, with Chris Fielding on engineering duties.

Bassist / vocalist Joe Nally commented: "We wanted to capture the feel of the studio itself as its in such a remote location, and every day the valley would fill with fog and silence. At night the only light comes from the moon and stars completely unpolluted. It's an incredible place to record and we feel it helped set the mood for the album."

On 'Desolate Heart', Joe continues: "The song 'Desolate Heart' had been in the making years before Urne actually formed, but was never completed."

During the writing process for Serpent & Spirit, Joe found an old demo of the first few minutes of the track, and instantly knew it had to be finished. 'Desolate Heart' subsequently became the first single released from the album.

There is no single way that Urne describe their sound, it all comes back to one thing: heavy. There are shades of Metallica, Mastodon, Alice In Chains in there, hopping between sludge, tech-metal, doom, hardcore and anything else with a weighty heart.

Formed by ex-Hang The Bastard bassist Joe Nally and guitarist Angus Neyra after their former band called it quits, the pair already had a reputation for big, heavy riffs. Getting drummer Richard Harris on board in 2018, they gilded their new outfit with debut EP The Mountain Of Gold, which immediately marked Urne out as a formidable new metallic force.

Now, they return with debut album Serpent & Spirit. Heavier, wider and with an even higher ratio of killer riffs than the EP, it also comes with a weighty concept based around the central character’s struggle as he’s pulled between good and evil, darkness and light.

“I had a bit of a bad patch for a few months,” explains Joe, revealing the inspiration for the album’s lyrics. “I’m absolutely fine now, but I drew on those two months where I just wasn’t feeling great. I took that and wrote a story based about that. The actual track-listing is done like that film Memento, where it’s all in a different order. Maybe one day someone will listen to the lyrics and work out which order the story goes in.

“The album is called Serpent & Spirit. The spirit is the human experience, the serpent is the evil that tricks your mind. It’s about getting pulled apart and trying to find yourself within all of that. So it’s almost good and evil, and throughout the album it’s about a person getting pulled from the light to the dark.”

Due to COVID, the final parts of the album were written over Skype, before being recorded by Chris Fielding (Conan, Electric Wizard, Primordial) at Foel Studios in deepest Wales during lockdown. It was then sent to acclaimed producer Jens Bogren who handled the mastering of Serpent & Spirit.

Urne have announced a UK tour in support of Serpent & Spirit. Catch them on the following dates:

Thu 8th July - London - The Black Heart
Fri 9th July - Birmingham - Dead Wax
Sat 10th July - Manchester - Star & Garter

DISTANT release savage new double track video; announce album Aeons Of Oblivion
unnamed - 2021-04-30T100341.293.jpg

Distant, the Dutch slam-hybrid deathcore six-piece that appears to never sleep or stand still; have announced their album Aeons Of Oblivion will be released via the equally unstoppable Unique Leader Records on 11th June.

Ahead of this the band have released a savage double track video featuring songs 'Rakva' & 'Vermilion Rivers'. Check out the gruesome video here: https://youtu.be/bBcXUfEZNq8

Add to your Spotify playlists here: https://spoti.fi/3xAbNdq

Pre-orders: https://orcd.co/aeonsofoblivion

Aeons Of Oblivion wraps up the story of Tyrannotophia, the realm of the doomed and the sound of the world's damnation. This draws to a conclusion the final pieces of the fable which the band's previous releases Dawn Of Corruption (2020) and Dusk Of Anguish (2021) laid out. Distant's full-length album totals over one hour of tormenting hymns that deal with Tyrannt’s conquest and hunger for revenge. Featuring five new songs with guest spots including Adam Warren of Oceano and Kyle Anderson of Brand of Sacrifice, the result is a cacophony of carnage that unfolds throughout the whole record.

Distant commented on the release: "As the land of Tyrannotophia shatters, the only true king, Tyrannt, awakens in his monolithic form, drawing oblivion upon us. Aeons of Oblivion concludes the saga and takes the listener down the road of Tyrannt’s cruel story. Our full-length album transcribes the dreadful, ominous and heavy feelings of the tale, bound by sensational atmosphere. We are extremely excited to finally share the full picture we have envisioned and crafted for the last couple of years and we hope you will enjoy and fully immerse yourself in the world we built."

The new album is accompanied by a limited edition hardback novel: 'The Rise of Tyrannotophia' which has been co-written by the band's vocalist, Alan Grnja and bass player, Elmer Maurits.

Hailing from Rotterdam, The Netherlands and Bratislava, Slovakia, Distant have produced some of their most ferocious work to date with the announcement of their fourth release for Unique Leader. Featuring cover artwork by Calean Stokkermans (The Acacia Strain, Lorna Shore, Misery Index), Distant perform the dark hymns of the fallen kingdom for listeners to experience the atmospheric despair and the grotesque void to come. Since 2014 the band have bludgeoned their way across Europe, with the release of their first two EPs Slither (2015) and Tsukuyomi (2017). Recently joining forces with Unique Leader to release their debut full-length album Tyrannotophia (June 2019), Dawn of Corruption EP (2020) and Dusk Of Anguish (2021).

Pop-metal newcomers Colosseums reveal new single 'Putrid'

Scintillating new pop-metal fourpiece Colosseums are proud to unveil their brand new video 'Putrid', available to watch now.

'Putrid' will be streaming everywhere on 30th April. Pre-save here: http://smarturl.it/thisisputrid

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/BIZ0_4esEas

With a chorus that is guaranteed to stay in your head, 'Putrid' is an impressive statement of intent from the newcomers. Elements of Issues, Normandie, and Polyphia, the short and sweet banger is the perfect meld of heavy and hooky.

The video was premiered by Rock Sound, in their words a "vicious blend of technically bouncy guitar licks, RnB-speckled croons and plenty of pristine pop sensibility, it's a statement of intent from a band firing on all cylinders and ready to destroy any sort of boundary that may be in their way."

As bassist Will McKeown stated: “‘Putrid’ feels like the first step into the world just because it encapsulates us so well. It’s got the riffs, it’s got the chorus, and it’s got the subs in there. There are a lot of different aspects in there. It felt like the perfect summation of the band at this point.”

Mental Cruelty release new single 'King Ov Fire'
Mentalcruelty shot 1.png

German haunting death metallers Mental Cruelty have released new single / video 'King Ov Fire', taken from their upcoming album A Hill To Die Upon, out 28th May via Unique Leader.

Watch the video to 'King Ov Fire' here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CE7gnzVzbXk

The video is instantly recognisable Mental Cruelty - smoke, candles, torches, and fire. The lyrics concern the Chancellor of Hell, the chairman of the high council of devils, Adramelech, who is also called an arch-enemy of God in Christian demonology.

Vocalist Lucca Schmerler says the following about this track: “'King Ov Fire' is a song that clearly shows where we come from, from the underground and from the slam scene. With this song, we hope to have created a guilty pleasure for all our fans who have been by our side since day one. Of course, it's not a pure slam track, but I'm proud of how we managed to unite our roots and our musical origins with our new sound in this song."

Founded in 2016 in Germany, the quintet have established themselves as one of the most exciting bands on the extreme underground, touring Europe with Rings Of Saturn and Nekrogoblikon in 2019 and North America with Signs Of The Swarm and Disentomb. Now with two albums under their belts, including 2019's critically acclaimed Inferis, produced by Sky Van Hoff (Rammstein, Kreator), they have become well known for their signature blackened breakdowns, blast beats, epic arrangements and slamming brutality.

Mental Cruelty will further explore their sound on new album A Hill To Die Upon, which heralds a new era for the band.

Modern metal frontrunners Tetrarch reveal chilling new single ahead of album release

This Friday, 30th April, marks the highly-anticipated release of Unstable, the ground breaking sophomore full-length release by US breakout metal stars Tetrarch. In celebration, the band have released their fourth and final pre-album release single, 'Addicted'.

Watch the visualiser to 'Addicted' here: https://youtu.be/LNwAsYqtuqg

'Addicted' is a truly massive, spine-tingling endeavour showcasing the captivatingly brooding and introspective side of Tetrarch. It follows their three huge singles 'I'm Not Right', 'You Never Listen' and 'Negative Noise', rounding out a dynamic group of hits.

Frontman and guitarist Josh Fore says: "'Addicted' is a song about being consumed by something in life that to the outside eye may appear detrimental or dangerous. Even as our world may be spiralling away from us into chaos there’s something that draws us towards our obsessions. 'Now I can see that the joke is on me' is that moment of self-awareness: that we cannot escape who we are and that we are stuck in our own addictions."

The album is available for pre-order in several exciting formats, here: https://napalmrecords.com/tetrarch

Produced by the band and Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation, Allegaeon, Khemmis), Unstable follows the band’s breakout debut Freak (2017). The new album shines not only as a natural step forward for TETRARCH, but a giant leap ahead – an even more focused effort combining bright flourishes, grooving low-end and soaring choruses. Unstable wastes no time igniting with the unforgettable, punching first single 'I’m Not Right'. Boosted by frontman Josh Fore’s raw emotion and dynamic vocal style, the track pays homage to the genre’s greats while lifted by the eerie leads of trailblazing lead guitarist Diamond Rowe. Radio-ready, lyrically-relevant tracks like anti-bullying anthem for the ages 'Sick Of You' and empowering 'You Never Listen' showcase TETRARCH’s hefty progressions and unforgettable choruses. Unstable’s heaviest offerings prove the band’s dynamic assault of varying heavy styles, most notedly on assertive breakneck burner 'Negative Noise' – a track that will turn the heads of metal’s greatest riffers with Rowe’s mighty axe attack – and on the melodically chilling 'Take A Look Inside', highlighting the powerful rhythm section of bassist Ryan Lerner and drummer Ruben Limas. The album explores a brooding, introspective side of the band on the standout, melodic 'Addicted' and closer track 'Trust Me', which trickles in supernatural atmosphere. Delivering heavy hit after hit, Unstable is 10 tracks of pure potency and undeniable talent.

Diamond Rowe says about the album: “The album has an overall theme of self-reflection and really looking at the relationships or parts of yourself/your life that you don’t like and getting out of those situations. It’s an angsty record. Musically, we were not timid in showing that we refuse to be boxed in as artists, and I think we really came out swinging with showing the world the type of band that we want to be. Freak did great for us and showed us that the music we were making was something that people wanted to hear, and that gave us the confidence to write and record this beast of an album.”

Colorado USA progressive rock three-piece Source return with new single 'False Prophet' and have announced the release of their third album Ethereal Self on 25th May.

Watch the visualiser for 'False Prophet' here: https://youtu.be/TnkgRa1JNAs

Vocalist / guitarist Ben Gleason comments on the single: "'False Prophet' is about rejecting fear-based conditioning which has been forced on all of us since birth. Whether it comes from the media, the government, religion or other institutions, fear has been used for over a millennia to keep us at war with ourselves and each other. This song is about choosing to transcend the influence of institutionalized fear."

On the new album Ethereal Self, he continues: "This album is about forming unity between our physical and cosmic, or ethereal selves. It is an exploration of mind and matter inviting all who listen to search for a deeper sense of truth in their lives. We recorded, engineered, mixed and produced this album entirely ourselves in our studio on a mountain in Colorado, 8500 feet above sea level. We believe the magic of the surroundings is captured in the recordings and we hope you feel it too."

Their music is an expression of the sensations experienced on this planet, the profoundness of the human experience and the beauty of all that is.

Entwining intelligent composition with melody at the core, you can hear a wide range of influences including Tool, Opeth and Chevelle.

Their debut album Return To Nothing was released in September 2016 on Pavement Entertainment and received a hugely positive response from music fans and press. Accolades included being named Metal Nexus' #1 best album of 2016 and heavy Music HQ's #9 best progressive metal album of 2016, and their video for single 'Memories of Yesterday' was supported by Axs TV, promo only, club com network and many more.

The success of the record earned them opening slots on tours with Hellyeah, In Flames, From Ashes to New and TrapT, firmly establishing them in the US rock scene. 2019 saw the band release their stunning second album Totality, which achieved top reviews with Angry Metal Guy claiming "we could be witnessing the birth of the next great progressive metal band".
