To The Grave continue their campaign to raise awareness of animal cruelty with single / lyric video 'Death By A Thousand Cuts'

Australian deathcore quintet To The Grave have released a lyric video for 'Death By A Thousand Cuts', taken from their new album, Epilogue, out now via Unique Leader Records.

Vocalist Dane Evans comments: "The slow process of slicing, the lingering of death until it dies.
This song is both an introspective response to appeals to futility from those unwilling to act and a depiction of the looming collapse of systematic slaughter. We each have a part to play in how the world ends up and this song analyzes both sides of the blood-stained coin."

To The Grave have announced their Epilogue Australian headline tour in August, and with dates already selling out in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, three extra show have been added. Check social media for updates.

To The Grave's objective has always been to create sonically and thematically heavy music, charged with a grim, confronting message. Featuring their entire self-released debut album Global Warning, plus seven new songs, Epilogue is a huge 19 tracks of intense brutality.

After releasing the No Lives Matter extended play and touring Australia relentlessly with the likes of Alpha Wolf, Justice For The Damned and Gravemind, To The Grave put themselves firmly on the global metal map in 2019 with Global Warning. Closing 2019 as main support for Vulvodynia on their Australian run and opening a show for Cattle Decapitation elevated them further, earning them sold out headline shows in Melbourne and Sydney.

2021 is the year To The Grave take to the global stage. Be ready.

Irish post-rock duo Bicurious stream new video, 'Deconstructed', and announce debut LP
Promo Shot 1 (MAIN)resize.jpg

Dublin-based post-rock duo Bicurious have streamed their stunning new video 'Deconstructed', released 11th June.

The single is taken from the band's highly-anticipated debut LP (re)constructed, which will be released 30th July.

Premiered via Rolling Stone India, you can watch the video here: https://youtu.be/H5RK_7sa5P0

After a number of singles, an EP, and over five million Spotify streams, Bicurious are ready to make 2021 their own.

The band have been hard at work on their debut LP since 2019, and will announce details soon.

A gloriously inventive twopiece, Bicurious stand head and shoulders above the rest of the genre with their brilliant ability to harness melody - hummable hooks buried within mostly instrumental rock. 'Palapalapa' is a glorious example of this - with an instantly catchy tune that guarantees instant repetition.

At once insightful, self-aware, technically proficient but above all immediately accessible, Bicurious are a band with an edge and clear, confident identity. The band are Gavin Purcell (drums) and Taran Plouzané (guitar); a confused, loud, experimental two-piece from Dublin, Ireland and Brest, France. Bicurious’ songs often feature vocal samples from political figures, which aim to bring to light social injustice in Ireland and beyond. The band have built a loyal fanbase through extensive touring and have won over crowds both at home and abroad, establishing themselves as a recognisable force on the European instrumental rock scene.

Known for riff sing-alongs, grooves that open up mosh pits and get heads banging, and the undeniable chemistry between the two remarkable musicians, Bicurious have taken their captivating live show from sweaty private rehearsal rooms to festival stages across Europe for the last four years.

Formed in 2016, Bicurious released their debut singles ‘Sugar Beats’ and ‘T.O.I’ in 2017.
Their debut EP I’m So Confused was crowd-funded by fans through an Indiegogo campaign and a packed-out fundraiser gig in 2017, just a year and a half after the band’s formation. The EP was released in 2018, and the band celebrated the release with a sold-out show in Whelan's, Dublin. The lead single from the EP, ‘Sleep’, has clocked up just under three million streams on Spotify.

In March 2019 the band released the single ‘I Don't Do Drugs, I Just Sweat a Lot.’ They toured the UK and Ireland in support of the release, followed by festival appearances at Knockanstockan, Vantastival, Electric Picnic and more in Summer 2019.

Bicurious embarked on their biggest tour to date in the Winter of 2019, which took them from Ireland to the UK, France and Italy. They are scheduled to appear at ArcTanGent festival (Bristol, UK) and Portals Festival (London, UK) later this year.

Chilean prog rockers AISLES release new single 'Fast'
Aisles2258bhorizontalp.jpg

Acclaimed Chilean prog rockers Aisles have released their single 'Fast', the first new material in five years since their acclaimed Hawaii LP (2016).

Stream 'Fast' here: https://music.aislesproject.com/FAST2021

And watch the stunning, hand-animated video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIwuCbMSLM4

The song, released via the band's own Presagio Records, is a first glimpse into their forthcoming album - more details to be announced soon.

'Fast' is also the first new song with Aisles’ vocalist, Israel Gil, after the departure of Sebastián Vergara in 2018. "Israel brought the power 'Fast' needed because he has a wide vocal range and his performance was superb," says Germán Vergara, songwriter and guitarist of the group. The track was recorded at Estudio del Sur, produced by Angelo Marini and Germán Vergara, and mastered by American engineer Randy Merrill (Muse, Paul McCartney, Beck, Liam Gallagher).

"The song and the lyrics are inspired not only by my personal life, with a very hard break-up, and the departure of Sebastián, my brother, from the band, but also in the global social crisis that has this end-of- a-cycle feeling”, explains Vergara. “'Fast' is about following a purpose with all the energy you have left. That feeling was translated into an accelerated-paced vibe, with intense guitar riffs."

The video was developed by Lucy Animation Studio, from Colombia, and the script was written by Chilean novelist Francisco Ortega and guitarist Germán Vergara. “I've been watching anime like Ghost in the Shell, Devilman Crybaby, and Akira, and they are all set in an apocalyptic context. I found that there were many similarities between the fiction of these stories and the reality that Chile and the world are experiencing, and we wanted to convey this analogy with a video with a cyberpunk aesthetic," says the leader of the band.

The group, formed by Germán Vergara, Israel Gil, Rodrigo Sepúlveda (guitar), Juan Pablo Gaete (keyboard), Felipe Candia (drums) and Daniel Concha (bass), are working on their fifth studio album. The new album moves away from the sonic experiences and concept of Hawaii, to open up a more direct and powerful sound. “We have done a very exhaustive job: we put pressure on ourselves to change our paradigm,” says the producer and guitarist.

A shining example of prog rock's universal reach, the Chilean band, formed more than 15 years ago, have a long and illustrious history. Previously nominated in the Italian Prog Awards, Aisles are the only South American group to be invited to France's Crescendo Festival de Rock Progressif. The band released their fourth studio album Hawaii in 2016, a monumental, immersive, beautiful double-disc journey, reminiscent of Camel, Yes, Rush, Genesis, Marillion and more.

Aisles can lay claim to being South America's most important progressive band of the past two decades. Hawaii was declared a masterpiece and received attention from Prog, NeoProg, iO Pages and many more. An exciting new era awaits.

Introducing new alt/electronic artist wornoc: releases video for debut single 'Signs'
wornoc 2021 Resize.jpg

Dublin based alt-electronic composer wornoc has released the video for his debut single, 'Signs'.

Released 19th May, 'Signs' was premiered via HotPress; you can watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gs1aNYfDKL4

Stream here: https://ffm.to/wornocmusic

wornoc (Conor Walsh)'s personal attraction towards minimalist instrumental music encompasses his fascinations with static harmony, gradual additive textures, repetition, phase shifts and static instrumentation. His music allows the listener to become mesmerised by the meta-musical properties revealed within his intoxicating fusion of cinematic, intense, emotional and at times, aggressive styles of compositions, driven by infectious grooves, melodic guitar riffs and electronic music.

Far from the typical sounds of the Irish music scene, wornoc provides a spectacular sonic environment for introspections.

'Signs' is full of these subtle layers of textural timbres, taking the listener on an unexpected journey into the unknown.

As wornoc comments: wornoc has been in the works for a while now, but I often found myself busy or distracted with life and my alt-punk band, Versive. When Covid hit, I suddenly had a bit more free time on my hands so I had no excuse but to finally lift this project off the ground. Last summer I built a small cosy recording studio in my back garden which pushed me to start writing music that was different to what I usual did. wornoc was born out of my inspiration for film music, electronic music and sound design. 'Signs' was the first track I wrote, which came together quite quickly, probably because I was acting on a gut instinct and didn’t feel any pressure to write anything in a certain genre.”

Finnish melodeath sextet Bloodred Hourglass release video for new single 'Nightmares Are Dreams Too'
Bloodred Hourglass - Photo by Outi Puhakka - Outokuva.jpg

Finnish melodic death metallers Bloodred Hourglass have released new single 'Nightmares Are Dreams Too'. This is the third taster of the band's upcoming album, which promises to be a melodic death metal rollercoaster, due for release later this year via Out Of Line Music.

Watch the video to 'Nightmares Are Dreams Too' here: https://youtu.be/Hm8fR2-pRp4

Stream here: https://bloodredhourglass.lnk.to/NightmaresAreDreamsToo

Guitarist Lauri Silvonen comments about the new song:"'Nightmares Are Dreams Too' is a mixture of heavy riffs, clean guitars and beautiful leads that create a wistful but aggressive atmosphere. This straightforward song also carries a straightforward message: if you lack knowledge and don't have anything constructive to say, just rather keep your opinions to yourself. All in all 'Nightmares Are Dreams Too' sums up big melodies, heavy grooves and solid words while offering the first glimpse of how Bloodred Hourglass blend metalcore elements to their signature melodeath sound!"

On the inspiration for the song writing on this third single, he continues: "It’s the balance of keeping it simple yet interesting while also bringing forth some fresh elements. Obviously, stupidity of people is a never-ending source too.

"Since we had some line-up changes after the last album
Godsend we wanted to do another video highlighting the band. Instead of just a traditional playing video we added some other elements there too!"

Previous album Godsend saw BLOODRED HOURGLASS climb towards the top of the Finnish metal scene, with their signature blend of melodic death and thrash metal. Stay tuned for more details on the band's upcoming album.

Vocalist Jarkko Koukonen commented: "Lyrically it's going to be by far the most personal album to date. It's an introspective trip into loss, lost chances of life and love - all crowned with sadness. You get a lot closer by being also fragile, and the contrast we managed to capture on this record is definitely some next level BRHG."

"Obviously, we were in a new situation since the song writing responsibility was divided due to member changes after the previous album. Overall, we wanted to create something that's completely new and fresh for us but also maintain the familiar BRHG sound. Really happy with the results on the final record and it's safe to say the end result is more than we, and hopefully all of you, even expected,” adds the band about the upcoming album.

Silvonen concludes: "Musically it's the most diverse BRHG album we've created. It contains our slowest song ever but also the most aggressive headbanger too. It's filled with sadness and joy, brutality and catchiness - a perfect melodeath rollercoaster just the way we wanted it to be."

German metalcore quartet Defocus release video for new single 'Disease'

German metalcore quartet Defocus have released a video for their striking new single 'Disease'. The track is the fourth taste of their forthcoming debut album In The Eye Of Death We Are All The Same, due for release on 2nd July 2021 via Arising Empire.

'Disease' is an anthem against totalitarian systems of rule and human rights violation of any kind. This statement is further enhanced by a blend of energetic, fast instrumentals and aggressive vocals, combined with a catchy chorus that makes the song a real crusher. 'Disease' was created in close collaboration with Void Of Vision's James McKendrick, who served as a co-producer.

Founded by Simon Müller, Jeffrey Uhlmann, Jonas Mahler and Marcel "Bambam" Heberling, Defocus spent time making music together before coming to light in early 2019, instantly proving their worth in the scene with their energetic live shows.

Faced with the global COVID-19 pandemic, Defocus got to work on their upcoming record through extensive late-night online sessions, allowing every member to contribute their individual ideas and emotions.

Guitarist Jeffrey Uhlmann comments:

"I remember that when we started to write all this material, everyone was on the same page from the beginning and we knew exactly which direction we wanted to go, but at the same time everyone took inspiration from different sources. Seeing all this material finally come together in the end makes me super happy, because the writing process and everything around it really defined who we are as a band and resulted in a pure milestone everyone in the band can 100% identify with."

The quartet recorded the tracks remotely from home, before they were mixed and mastered by Christoph Wieczorek (Annisokay) from Sawdust Recordings, who truly captured their crushing and impulsive take on modern metalcore.

Now, Defocus enter the metal scene with a record full of heavy, low-tuned guitars and driving rhythms, paired with dark and ambient melodies, creating a melancholic atmosphere for their thrilling sound. A deep-dive into the world we are living in and how we are all affected by it, In The Eye Of Death We Are All The Same is a punishing album deserving of your attention.

Blood Command announce new vocalist Nikki Brumen (ex-Pagan) and stream new single
unnamed - 2021-06-04T110928.929.jpg

The critically acclaimed group Blood Command have announced their new vocalist, Nikki Brumen (ex-Pagan).

To celebrate the band's new era, they have revealed their stellar new single 'A Villain's Monologue', out now on Hassle Records.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/ZNt-m2GqgYY

Stream here: https://orcd.co/avillainsmonologue

In the words of Blood Command mastermind Yngve Andersen: "I remember the first time someone showed me Nikki’s old band Pagan and all I was thinking about was why isn't this girl fronting Blood Command? It was a match made in heaven. That she is in the band now is almost unreal to me. It's a dream come true."

Of the song, Yngve says: "The new era of Blood Command is tougher, tighter and more melodic than ever before. This is also a great introduction for Pagan fans who may not have heard of Blood Command, as 'A Villain's Monologue' really showcases the ferocity of Nikki's vocals but also combines the deathpop sound that Blood Command is known for. This song is a taste of what's to come...

He continues: "'A Villain's Monologue' was written in response to someone projecting their insecurities onto me. At the time of writing this track, I was invested in supporting someone close to me - I could see they were chasing their dreams and I wanted the best for them. Over time, however, I came to the sad realisation that the support was not reciprocated. This person who I thought I could trust was not showing me the same support that I had shown them, and as a result, were projecting. When I showed Nikki the song, she had been through an incredibly similar situation so we both knew this was the perfect introduction to the rebirth of Blood Command."

Nikki comments: "A decade ago, I travelled from my home country of Australia to Norway. I chose to fly all the way to the other side of the world because of my obsession at the time with the Norwegian Black Metal scene. I left, however, with a new obsession - Bergen. The moment I arrived in this city, I knew there was something special about it. To this day, it is my favourite place I have been.

"I used this trip and the Norwegian Black Metal scene as creative inspiration for my band Pagan, who played our last show in February 2020. Not long after we had split up, I got the offer to join Blood Command. I had actually been introduced to Blood Command’s Cult Drugs a couple of years earlier and fell in love with them instantly. In a weird way, they reminded me of a more pop version on Pagan. The strangest thing about this situation though was that I was being asked to join a band from Bergen. The stars had aligned.

"I feel so privileged to have been given the opportunity to front a band that I love and that I feel such connection with. I will sing every note from my heart, I will scream every word from my gut, I will write every lyric from my soul together with the band and I will never let you down. We are all in this together now."

The self-described 'deathpop' band are a one-of-a-kind proposition. Hardcore meets metal meets pop meets punk, Blood Command have previously been called 'one of the world's best kept secrets' by Rock Sound, achieved one of the Albums of the Year in Kerrang!, and applauded by Metal Hammer, among others.

Blood Command have previously toured with Biffy Clyro, Kvelertak, Rolo Tomassi, and Skindred, following the release of their acclaimed EP Return of the Arsonist, the conceptual successor to 2011's Hand Us The Alphamale EP. The band have also shared the stage with Refused, Tragedy, Comeback Kid, and Gallows, and have played Download Festival, The Great Escape, 2000trees and Roskilde festivals, among others. Now with celebrated UK label Hassle Records and with Nikki at the front, Blood Command's power and prestige only rises higher.

Metal trio Urne release video for 'The Palace of Devils & Wolves'
unnamed - 2021-06-04T102135.511.jpg

London metal trio Urne have unveiled new single / video 'The Palace of Devils & Wolves', taken from their upcoming debut album Serpent & Spirit, set for release on 25th June via Candlelight Records.

Watch the video for 'The Palace of Devils & Wolves' here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtycqiWDspk

Bassist / vocalist Joe Nally commented: "When it came to writing ‘The Palace of Devils & Wolves’ we wanted to write a straightforward heavy metal song compared to some of the longer pieces on ‘Serpent & Spirit’. Inspired by late 70s Judas Priest and Megadeth Countdown to Extinction with our own spin I believe we wrote a song that will have people headbanging at shows and festivals all over."

On the video, Joe continues: "The video was shot by Gav Thane and edited by our very own Angus Neyra. We took huge inspiration from the classic 90s metal videos; if there was a new Drilling the Vein video compilation coming out now, we would want this video on there. We wanted the grittiness of 'Davidian' (Machine Head) mixed with the energy of 'Slave New World' (Sepultura) but again, with our own spin."

Stream 'The Palace of Devils & Wolves' and previous single 'Desolate Heart', and pre-order Serpent & Spirit here: https://URNE.lnk.to/SerpentandSpiritPR

During the writing process for Serpent & Spirit, Joe found an old demo of the first few minutes of the track, and instantly knew it had to be finished. 'Desolate Heart' subsequently became the first single released from the album.

There is no single way that Urne describe their sound, it all comes back to one thing: heavy. There are shades of Metallica, Mastodon, Alice In Chains in there, hopping between sludge, tech-metal, doom, hardcore and anything else with a weighty heart.

Formed by ex-Hang The Bastard bassist Joe Nally and guitarist Angus Neyra after their former band called it quits, the pair already had a reputation for big, heavy riffs. Getting drummer Richard Harris on board in 2018, they gilded their new outfit with debut EP The Mountain Of Gold, which immediately marked Urne out as a formidable new metallic force.

Now, they return with debut album Serpent & Spirit. Heavier, wider and with an even higher ratio of killer riffs than the EP, it also comes with a weighty concept based around the central character’s struggle as he’s pulled between good and evil, darkness and light.

“I had a bit of a bad patch for a few months,” explains Joe, revealing the inspiration for the album’s lyrics. “I’m absolutely fine now, but I drew on those two months where I just wasn’t feeling great. I took that and wrote a story based about that. The actual track-listing is done like that film Memento, where it’s all in a different order. Maybe one day someone will listen to the lyrics and work out which order the story goes in.

“The album is called Serpent & Spirit. The spirit is the human experience, the serpent is the evil that tricks your mind. It’s about getting pulled apart and trying to find yourself within all of that. So it’s almost good and evil, and throughout the album it’s about a person getting pulled from the light to the dark.”

Due to COVID, the final parts of the album were written over Skype, before being recorded by Chris Fielding (Conan, Electric Wizard, Primordial) at Foel Studios in deepest Wales during lockdown. It was then sent to acclaimed producer Jens Bogren who handled the mastering of Serpent & Spirit.

Urne have announced a UK tour in support of Serpent & Spirit. Catch them on the following dates:

The Five Hundred announce new album & release video for 'Our Demise'
TFH - OUR DEMISE PROMO .jpg

UK metalcore quintet The Five Hundred have announced their sophomore album A World On Fire, due for release on 30th July 2021 via Long Branch Records.

The band have also released a video for their brand new single 'Our Demise'. The third single from the album, 'Our Demise' follows 'Black Dogs' and 'The Rising Tide', which have collectively garnered over 500,000 streams.

Check out the video for 'Our Demise' here: https://youtu.be/EKPO9v3hCSE

Pre-order A World On Fire and stream 'Our Demise' here: https://smarturl.it/aworldonfire

The Five Hundred comment on the new single:

"I remember reading a paper about how people can pass away simply because they've given up. Life has beaten them and they feel defeat is inescapable. It was a study by researchers about the 'clinical markers' for 'give-up-itis', a crude term used to describe what is known medically as psychogenic death. It usually follows a trauma from which a person thinks there is no escape, making death seem like the only rational outcome. If not arrested, death usually occurs three weeks after the first stage of withdrawal. The researcher quoted: Psychogenic death is real. It isn't suicide, it isn't linked to depression, but the act of giving up on life and dying usually within days, is a very real condition often linked to severe trauma.

"It’s a subject matter that triggers thoughts, perhaps analogously, that we are experiencing a societal or ecological version of this. We have given up on ourselves, and we have just accepted that this is the only, inevitable conclusion, to fade away, wide-eyed and hopeless.

"As a society we swing from the opposite ends of the pendulum, of environmental activism, which society bizarrely labels as 'extremism' to the flaccid apathy of 'middle-of-the-road Joe Public', who questions whether any of this is even real. We don’t need two polar opposites to war with each other, we need the middle ground to get the f**k in the water and learn to swim. We haven’t decided if this song is about fighting on or giving up… I guess we’ll let the listener decide…"

Aggressive yet euphoric, empowering yet simultaneously enslaving, The Five Hundred are renowned for overcoming adversities and laying siege to every stage they play.

Their critically acclaimed debut album, Bleed Red, told the story of a band struggling with Tourette’s, OCD, and drug addiction. It's now time to share with the world how they’ve battled through their vices and come out on top.

After successful tours up and down the UK, Eastern Europe / Russia and an appearance at the iconic Download Festival in 2019, the quintet are back and angrier than ever with their follow-up album.

As the world closed its frontiers, boarded up their cities, and locked themselves inside, The Five Hundred closed themselves off from the rest of society for six months to write their fitting sophomore album, A World On Fire.

In May 2020, only a few months into the COVID-19 pandemic, The Five Hundred released the album’s first single, ‘Black Dogs’, a song about isolation and the plague of mental health, which spreads through society like a contagion of anxiety, paranoia and suicidal ideations.

Follow-up single ‘The Rising Tide’ offered a glimpse into what has become a central theme to the band and their music in this coming cycle: environmental devastation, rising sea levels, climate disaster, and the ensuing loss of entire ecosystems, cities and millions of human lives. The album concept weaves through various aspects of a generation-defining crisis, from flood to furnace… a fitting soundtrack for the coming apocalypse.
