UK black metallers Necronautical release new single 'Necropsychonautics'

UK black metal metal act Necronautical have returned with their second single / video ‘Necropsychonautics’ from their upcoming fourth album Slain In The Spirit, out 20th August via Candlelight / Spinefarm Records.

Of 'Necropsychonautics,' vocalist / guitarist Naut commented "‘We are proud to unveil ‘Necropsychonautics’, the second single and music video from our new record Slain in the Spirit. In this visual manifestation Created by James ‘Carcarrion’ Goodwin and Courtney Sherives, we witness an individual fleeing an unnamed malevolence, testing the fabrics of reality and the limits of human consciousness. This is a journey of cosmic significance through the maddening horror of the unknown. Behold Necropsychonautics!’"

Necronautical have always been about exploring the darkness. Their very name means ‘to explore death’. It’s fitting, then, that on their fourth album, Slain In The Spirit, the Manchester band are pushing both their sound and their concept to the outer limits.

Since forming in 2010, Necronautical’s name has become well respected among the British black metal underground. Across three albums – 2014’s Black Sea Misanthropy, 2016’s The Endurance At Night and 2019’s Candlelight Records debut Apotheosis – their sound has become one rich in its skill with the dark side of metal. Ambitious and grandiose in its symphonic touches, this velvet glove hides beneath it an aggressive iron fist.

On Slain In The Spirit, this is truer than ever. Everything has been taken to a degree beyond where the band have trodden previously, with the symphonic elements swirling even more dizzyingly above a metallic attack that hits with an almost machine-like ferocity. So much so that the band have transcended black metal altogether.

The track comes as a follow-up to previous single 'Hypnagogia', which can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxGI8UVpk3E

Pop-punk/post-hardcore quintet Calling All Captains share video for new single 'Undone'

Bridging the gap between pop-punk/post-hardcore, Canadian quintet Calling All Captains are excited to share the video for their hard-hitting new single 'Undone', out now via Rude Records (UK/EU) and Equal Vision Records (USA/RoW).

Premiered via Brooklyn Vegan, check out the video here: https://youtu.be/4biCc6isxU8

Stream/purchase 'Undone' here: https://callingallcaptains.lnk.to/undone

’Undone’ was written about that person in your life that makes everything about them and takes no responsibility for their own actions,” shares vocalist Luc Gauthier. “Those kind of narcissists eventually expose themselves for who they really are and end up with nothing left after everyone else catches on to their charade.

He continues: “Sometimes all you can do is be the bigger person and walk away from the situation. Not every hill is worth dying on. The less you fight back, the less power you give them over you. Remember to trust your gut and stand by your values and you'll prevail through their bitterness and aggression.”

Calling All Captains consists of vocalist Luc Gauthier, guitarists Brad Bremner and Connor Dawkins, bassist Nick Malychuk, and Tim Wilson on drums. The band's unique sound allows them to dip their toes into both the pop-punk and post-hardcore realms using poppy instrumental elements with a punk-like, aggressive vocal style. After their initial plans were halted in 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic, the band was able to work with producer Quinn Cyrankiewicz, who also worked on their debut EP, Nothing Grows Here, to record 'Tailspin.'

Calling All Captains has a fluid dynamic where each member holds an untold responsibility for writing and being an asset to the band. Luc and Connor are the primary songwriters. Brad focuses on the technical elements. Tim concentrates on the beat, and Nick envisions how the songs will perform live and which technical aspects will draw the crowds in. According to Luc, this collaboration "allows the song to be relatable and personable to each member of the band."

'Undone' follows recent single 'Tailspin,' an energetic and emotional track that perfectly highlights the seamless collaboration of all of the members. Connor joins Luc on vocals and takes over a verse to add even more depth to an already technical track. To put it simply, "we didn't want any lull points,” Brad stated. These songs represent an exciting new path for the group, and will leave the listener wanting more from Calling All Captains.

This follows first single 'Wilt', which featured David Simonich from Signs Of The Swarm. Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/hJ9HHX7bksI

Alongside their counterparts in Abigail Williams and Winds of Plague, TBP were the first out the gates in terms of bringing a symphonic, melody driven black metal influence into modern deathcore, setting the benchmark in 2008 with their genre melding debut In Waking : Divinity.

Fusing Unearth Oncoming Storm era style breakdowns with Dimmu Borgir flair reminiscent of Puritannical era, then adding the syncopated attack of the likes of Decapitated, TBP had unknowingly created a sound that would be imitated by many to come. TBP are the true originators of modern blackened deathcore and have returned to claim their crowns.

Their fourth album Labyrinthian is a majestic and nightmare fuelled journey deep into blackened death metal done how it's supposed to be. Featuring guest vocals from David John Simonich (Signs of the Swarm), Jamie Graham (Viscera) & a monumental mix and master from Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation, Rivers of Nihil)

New indie punk quartet VIAL release new single / video 'Something More'
VIAL - July 2021 (Landscape)resize.jpg

Loudmouth LP to be released 30th July via Get Better Records / Hassle Records
"VIAL exist largely as a type of genre-defying enigma." - AltPress

New US indie punk quartet VIAL have released new single 'Something More.' The single comes from the upcoming record LOUDMOUTH (30th July), with Hassle Records having teamed up with the band's US-based partners Get Better Records to make the record available to preorder for UK/EU fans.

This latest single comes off the back of previous tracks 'Roadkill' and 'Violet', both also taken from the upcoming record.

VIAL are the people you don’t want to piss off, sick to their stomachs of churned-out, run-of-the-mill, ‘bratty, bitchy, money hungry’ punk bands, and are putting down what others’ won’t pick up. Their early single ‘Violet’ glistens with indie curiosity, its love-story narrative turning into the hard-hitting reality of queer relationships and ‘disappointing my mumma for you.’ Contrasted with the kick-in-the-balls of ‘Mr Fuck You’ and ‘Planet Drool,’ VIAL pack more than a few punches into their 12-track album, writing the music and penning the social-commentary they wanted to hear.

Inspired by the lack of musical substance from a night out in Minneapolis in 2019, vocalist and keytarist Taylor Kraemer (she/they) recruited fellow after-school-musicians KT Branscom (they/them) and Kate Kanfield (they/them) to the fold, before finding Katie Fischer (she/them) via a band Tinder account and adding them to complete the cause.

LOUDMOUTH features a reworked version of the band’s origin story in the form of ‘Vodka Lemonade,’ relaying the anxieties and awkwardness of starting out as a new band on the scene. ‘Mr Fuck You’ takes relatability one step further and explores the hair-pulling, eye-rolling, hatred-inducing encounters with unwanted flirtatious attention and forced connections, all sang through gritted teeth and a fake smile before the inevitable outburst. Listen out too for the raucous carnival rock opener of ‘Ego Death’, or the soft and transcendent cloud ride of ‘Thumb’ for the scope of vibes on offer from this highly exciting new band.

The band’s tenacity and expert sarcasm is nurtured by producer Henry Stoehr (Slow Pulp), who not only severs the chains but throws them into the furnace to be melted altogether - unleashing energy informed by guts, not necessarily genre.

After having previously released their debut record Grow Up the same year they formed, VIAL were awarded the title of Best New Band in their hometown’s City Pages, recently praised by Alternative Press as a key band coming through in the scene, and followed by a growing audience on Tik Tok hungry to hear more music from VIAL’s punkrocker attitudes.

An album that takes the world-wide experienced anger, melancholy, and bite, LOUDMOUTH utilises its punk presence and retrospective relatability for an audience ready to jump on board.

Sugar Horse stream new single 'Phil Spector In Hell'

'A sucker punch of sludge-punk' - Knotfest.com
The Live Long After released 27th August via Small Pond Records

Self-described 'decidedly average' Bristol rockers Sugar Horse have released their new single/video, 'Phil Spector In Hell', from their long-awaited debut LP, The Live Long After, to be released 27th August via Small Pond Records.

Premiered via Heavy Blog Is Heavy; you can watch the video for 'Phil Spector In Hell' here: https://youtu.be/dT9S-RUQxbc

Pre-order The Live Long After here: https://link.smallpondrec.co.uk/sugar-horse

Lyrically based around the fear of the unknown, The Live Long After is a caustic, visceral, and highly engaging listen. From the uneasy opening notes of the introduction 'I Am Not Now' (an anti-hymn based on an ancient Byzantine chant), to 'Live Long' (a doom track about the endless void) and 'Death Cult', (which discusses Aleph, the Japanese doomsday movement), the record is an indication of a band bursting with things to say.

It's not for nothing that Sugar Horse have become known as a nonconformist band. Their previous EPs Druj and Drugs were acclaimed amalgams of doom, hardcore, stoner and punk, and The Live Long After continues this curious trend.

Indications of My Bloody Valentine, Cult of Luna, Deafheaven and Oceansize can be heard throughout the record, but still only touch upon the wide variety of sounds and influences Sugar Horse explore. A band who were due to tour with Black Peaks before the inevitable Covid disruption, and who have toured with Vennart and played ArcTanGent, Sugar Horse have received early praise from Upset Magazine, Metal Hammer, and Kerrang!.

Forming in 2015 as a trio in a flat in Bristol, Sugar Horse fully came into being in 2019 with the addition of Jake Healy on baritone guitar and keyboards. Seeking to break away from emerging trends in their scene, the band's emphasis on simplicity and down-tempo heft belies an impressive sense of self-awareness and maturity. In their own words: "I think the best art is formed when it's creators enforce rigid rules on themselves. Mondrian had geometry, Mark E Smith had his hatred for cigarette taxation and we have a complete disregard for urgency."

Despite what they say about themselves, Sugar Horse are anything but "average."

Sugar Horse are:

Ashley Tubb (Vocals/Guitar)
Jake Healy (Baritone Guitar, Keyboards)
Chris Howarth (Bass)
Martin Savage (Drums)

Instrumental Prog Artist Schiermann Releases New Single/Video 'Stygian Path'
928004bb-6a5b-e0be-dd1b-614d70b4eeec.jpeg

Prog instrumentalist Chris Schiermann has released new single / video 'Stygian Path’, the first new material since his debut self-titled album in 2017.

Premiered via Gear Gods, watch the video here: https://youtu.be/l9r8EefFNnM

The self-released 10-minute track features two-time Grammy Award-winning Mars Volta saxophonist Adrian Gonzalez, and Polish guitar virtuoso Jakub Zytecki sharing dual lead guitar parts on the latter end of the track.

Transcendent riffs and melodic intricacies uplift the soul, shattering into a barrage of blast beats, ride cymbals, and squealing pinch harmonics, leaving Schiermann to slip in and out harmony through his guitar playing. Delicate notes pluck at the heartstrings as this instrumental track outpours with emotion without whispering a word.

Commenting on the new single, Schiermann states:

"Stygian Path' is one of my favorites. It has so many elements and moods but still holds that dark vibe throughout, hence the name. It was one of those songs that just kept writing itself; go Prog!! It takes you on a journey with its many riffs and time signatures, especially as Navene Koperweisdrums alone are quite amazing because the time signatures are all over the place and it's mega challenging. Mike Malyan from DispersE who's now back in Monuments did all the sound effects, ambience, and keyboards to top off the overall feel and expression of the song."

Schiermann’s combined influences from the grit of Van Halen, the finesse of Steve Vai, and the unchained energy of Randy Rhoads, flickers incandescently in a fervent fit of passion.

Having previously collaborated with an array of esteemed musicians from Entheos’ drummer Navene Koperweis to TesseracT’s bassist Amos WilliamsSchiermann’s next release of material that he’s working on promises to hold a weight of its own, the details of which are yet to be announced.

On his next plans, Schiermann concludes: The direction on my new material is a bit more diverse so it will cover a broader range of styles but the overall feel is still Prog/Metal for sure with some different flavors sprinkled here and there. The first song I am recording is close to being finished and I will release it as a single as soon as it's mixed and mastered. I hope to have the album done by late summer if things go according to plan.

"Currently I am working on a new album and documenting it all with a Studio Update series on my Instagram and YouTube channels to share with all of you so please check it out to stay up to date."

British metal outfit Insurgent announce fierce new single 'Dogma'
insurgent-47.jpg

One of the UK's most thrilling new metal prospects, Insurgent, have announced the release of their debut EP Sentient, on 6th August. The band have also issued a new single 'Dogma'.

Finely-crafted and fully mature songwriting belies the quartet’s youth – a foursome who met in music college and who in their short time together have already toured as far afield as Ukraine. Elements of prog metal in the vein of TesseracT and The Agonist meld with stadium-filling anthems not far removed from Alter BridgeTrivium, and Jinjer.

'Dogma' is a statement to those who delude themselves about the realities of the world to the detriment of those around them, with musicality that bites with ferocious force. Reflecting on 'Dogma's' creation and inspiration, the band share their excitement for the singles release: “We're really excited to be sharing 'Dogma' with the world. It's a little fiercer than the last two tracks and shows another side to our sound that we've been keen to explore. The track delves into a more sadistic territory both lyrically and musically whilst staying true to our ambition to blend heavy instrumentation with powerful and emotive melodic themes throughout.”

Commenting on the record as a whole, guitarist Joe Rowley states: "We always chase that perfect blend between heavy rhythms and memorable, powerfully delivered vocal melodies and we feel that Sentient is the perfect collection of songs with which to present our sound to the world. Lyrically, we like to challenge the status quo and tackle the various problems associated with modern society whilst encouraging people to reflect on their behaviour and how they could change it for the better. There is always a tricky balance to be struck between sounding new and exciting whilst still remaining identifiable, and without alienating your audience. We feel like this is the musical space in which we thrive and we will always promise to deliver music that exceeds the expectations of the rock and metal world."

Insurgent deliver beyond musical excellence – the songs on offer across Sentient are all written from the perspective of a God-like figure. Through this figure the band analyse negative behaviour of humans (track one, ‘Zero Sum’) and spiritual reflection and criticism of our creator (track six ‘My Sentence Awaits’). Ultimately Insurgent look to inspire, with the overriding message of the EP being that each individual has the power to improve the world, by improving themselves.

Led by Kate Teitge’s brilliantly powerful, emotive vocals, and backed by the technical skill and intensity of Joe Rowley (guitar), Jake Brettle (bass) and Mike Tebone (drums), Insurgent are a new group ready to take your notice.

Joe Rowley - Guitar
Jake Brette - Bass
Mike Tabone – Drums

This Friday, 16th July 2021, the high priests of heavy metal - POWERWOLF - will continue their unique
success story and release their long awaited new studio album Call Of The Wild!

In anticipation of the event, friend and fan of POWERWOLF, Trivium singer Matthew Kiichi Heafy has recorded an impressive version of the song 'Fist By Fist (Sacralize Or Strike)'. The new version of the rousing track seamlessly follows the class of the original, and underlines POWERWOLF's international power of impact.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/qwTwW3w7f4c

The song will be featured on the exclusive bonus album Missa Cantorem, which will be included in
various Call Of The Wild formats. A simultaneously exciting and entertaining journey through the
band's success story, sung by friends and companions of POWERWOLF.

Matthew Kiichi Heafy states: “It is a tremendous honor to be able to do my rendition of the fantastic 'Fist By Fist' by the mighty POWERWOLF. POWERWOLF has been one of my favorite bands for ages, so this is a privilege of the highest caliber.”

Once again created in cooperation with the honorable producer duo of Jens Bogren and Joost van den Broek, the masterpiece will open a new chapter in the band's history on 16th July 2021. The eighth studio album will serve both old and newly recruited POWERWOLF devotees with well-known classic trademarks, and equally surprise and delight them at every stage of this wild 11-track ride.

Matthew Greywolf comments on Call Of The Wild: "With Call Of The Wild, we are opening a new, exciting chapter in the history of POWERWOLF. The album sounds unmistakably like POWERWOLF and is so much more at the same time: Besides new territory like the Celtic instrumentation in 'Blood for Blood (Faoladh)' or the ballad like 'Alive or Undead' we have raised all our trademarks to a new level. Until now, we never sounded so powerful and wild - in the truest sense of the word. We can't wait to finally share this beast of an album with you all!"

ABOUT POWERWOLF:

The story of POWERWOLF, beginning in 2004, reads like a true fairytale, but is the result of the most hard-working and entertaining live band on the heavy metal planet. POWERWOLF has not only received plenty of Gold and Platinum awards to date, but numerous releases have entered the official German album charts at the top position of #1. With Blessed & Possessed (2015), POWERWOLF achieved Gold status (in the Czech Republic) for the first time, while its predecessor, Preachers Of The Night (2013), hit the official German album charts at #1, and the incredible DVD, The Metal Mass (2016), came in at #1 of the German DVD-Charts. POWERWOLF's holy mass in the name of heavy metal is unstoppable – their latest magnum opus, The Sacrament of Sin (2018), again entered the album charts at #1. The accompanying, almost completely sold out Wolfsnächte headline tour – in which POWERWOLF headlined large venues with their phenomenal stage performances – became a single major triumph, as well as the numerous summer festival shows in which crowds were thrilled and completely captivated by the wolves and their unique, (un)holy metal mass. With the new studio album, Call Of The Wild, and the Wolfsnächte 2021 tour charging through the largest halls in Europe, 2021 will again be a year completely under the sign of the wolf pack!

POWERWOLF are:
Attila Dorn – vocals
Falk Maria Schlegel – organ
