Newcomers from Los Angeles, True North, have released an acoustic version of single 'Your Confession' via Out Of Line Music. The single comes after the phenomenal response to the original track, which featured a guest spot from Sleeping With Sirens' vocalist Kellin Quinn. The acoustic version replaces the initial energy with a stripped-down version that accentuates the beauty of the track, rendering it an emotion-tinged live performance in a studio setting.

Musing over the inspiration for the acoustic version, the band state: "After the overwhelming response we received after releasing 'Your Confession', it became clear that this song was resonating with people in a way that honestly surpassed our expectations. As a thank you to everyone who has helped make 'Your Confession' our strongest single to date, we decided to record and release a special stripped-down version of the song. Hopefully, this take on the song will allow the listener to appreciate the song in a completely new light and will bring new meaning to the lyrics and melodies of the original track."

Their debut single on Out Of Line Music marked the beginning of a new chapter for True North since it's release last month, racking up more than 135,000 streams. The original has been placed on several playlists amongst independent radio stations.

Stream/purchase the original 'Your Confession ft. Kellin Quinn' here: https://truenorth.lnk.to/YourConfession

The band discuss their collaboration with Kellin Quinn: "Considering that a lot of our music is heavily influenced by artists like Sleeping With Sirens and other rock and post-hardcore bands that were very impactful on us growing up, it was really a no-brainer for us to ask Kellin Quinn for a feature. His voice is instantly recognisable, and we thought it would be a great fit for the song, while also paying homage to our influences as a band. What we didn't necessarily expect was for Kellin to contribute so heavily to the writing of the final lyrics and melodies that really helped craft the song into what you hear now. Simply put, 'Your Confession' wouldn't exist as it is right now without Kellin Quinn."

The band conclude: "We have been lucky enough to collaborate with some of our favourite artists and work with some amazing producers and engineers, and we're so excited with how these new songs are turning out. We can't wait to show the world what we've been working on, and given that the pandemic is starting to turn the corner, we plan on continuing this new chapter for the band by playing live and touring as much as possible."

True North bridge the gap between rock, pop and electronic, combining their array of influences to create their unique and captivating sound. The band are building a solid fanbase through their honest approach to songwriting, resonating with music fans across the globe.

Death Tribe (Anthony Kaoteon) unveils new album with animated movie
Death Tribe.jpg

Beyond The Red Light District: A Canal Experiment out today

Featuring Baard Kolstad (Leprous), Linus Klausenitzer (Obsidious),
Chris Baum (Bent Knee)

Death Tribe, the politically-charged project founded by award-winning Kaoteon guitarist Anthony Assaker, has released new album and animated movie, Beyond The Red Light District: A Canal Experiment.

Premiered via Knotfest, watch the full movie here: https://youtu.be/TzouYwMaVjk

Purchase the album here: https://bfan.link/beyond-the-red-light-district-a-canal-experiment

Beyond the Red Light District: A Canal Experiment (The Red Experiment for short) is a statement against all that is wrong in the world today. Everything that is pushed down our throats as we lost our tenure and are blinded by fear and manipulated knowledge - the worst kind of ignorance. All music, lyrics, guitars and concept by Anthony. Other musicians include and not limited to: Baard Kolstad (Leprous) - drums, Linus Klausenitzer (Obsidious): bass and Chris Baum (Bent Knee): violin.

Born in the midst of warfare, Anthony almost had his spirit broken by oppression, but now creates the perfect soundtracks to rebellion and defiant resistance. Anthony is pushing the boundaries of his artistic expression on the second album, these songs are the long, throat-rending roar of one man’s resolve to forge his own life on his own terms and to savour every breath.

Already known for his work with Golden God Award winners Kaoteon, Death Tribe is Anthony’s most diverse musical statement to date. This is a staggering achievement against all the odds, the sonic distillation of absolute defiance. This epitomises everything that metal was ever meant to be.

Anthony comments: "Music is not only about creating angry music but it is as well about the message behind the music. I want to create music with purpose to impact the listener and build awareness about what is wrong in this world. I want the listener to think about their daily choices that are leading humanity to its own demise. We need to stop blaming the world for our own mistakes. We are the world, we have the right to vote, the right to act, the right to raise awareness in many parts of the world and if we want a better world, we need to stop choosing what is right for our best interest and do what is best for everyone. From speaking up and supporting black communities, to LGBTQ+ communities, to supporting women's rights and talking about oppressed nations from Colombia to Palestine just as much as I speak up about the suppression of the Lebanese people by their own government. We cannot choose when to call something right and wrong and this is what the 2nd album is all about - This is a wake up call to the world to realise that we need to change faster than ever before.”

Anthony now resides in The Netherlands, but he was born into the chaos and conflict of Beirut, under the looming shadows of corruption and domination, the disciples of radical ideologies poised vulture-like over his days and nights. However, he was not born a man to blindly accept his fate – he was determined to shape his own destiny. This is the first album that Anthony composed in the Netherlands and it feels like a new breed of chaos was born in these lands.

Death Tribe is a celebration of life's ultimatum - Death.

Venues release entertaining video for new single 'Whydah Gally'
Venues 2021_by Venera Red.jpg

New album Solace out 27th August 2021 via Arising Empire

"German metal with a mission and a message" - Kerrang!

German modern metal outfit Venues have released a powerful and striking video for new single 'Whydah Gally'. The track is the fifth single from their forthcoming album Solace, due for release on 27th August 2021 via Arising Empire.

Once again, Venues worked with videographer Marius Milinski to create the music video for 'Whydah Gally', continuing and finishing the story that began with previous singles 'Rite Of Passage', 'Shifting Colors', 'Uncaged Birds', 'Mountains,' and finally, 'Whydah Gally.'

Check out the video for 'Whydah Gally' here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPMwHy1gdqw

Vocalist Robin says: "'Whydah Gally' was actually one of my favourite songs on Solace from the start! It's full of power and takes you on a stormy journey from the first few seconds on which you can only get off at the end. The story behind 'Whydah Gally' is that I said to the rest of the band that I really wanted to write a pirate song. Shortly afterwards, Valentin did the instrumentals and Lela and I started the lyrical story. "

Pre-order Solace in various formats here: https://Venues.lnk.to/solace

From the depths of their deepest crisis, Venues emerge victoriously, welcoming two new members - clean vocalist Lela and guitarist Valentin. When former vocalist Nyves quit the band mid-tour, following the release of their pivotal debut Aspire (2019), the modern metal juggernaut was shaken to the bone.

Despite this, the remaining members refused to give up and tirelessly searched for new talent. Following guitarist Constantin witnessing a performance of Lela at (of all places) a Steel Panther show, the band found their new clean vocalist.

Venues went into the studio with producer Christoph Wieczorek (Annisokay) to record Solace, who coated their massive sound with a metallic alloy of remarkable precision.

“We wanted to be more metal,” Robin comments. “There were some pop sensibilities of Aspire we wanted to replace with rather the opposite.”

Melody and punch-drunk heaviness, metal and alternative rock, zeitgeist and authenticity, barbed choruses and unleashed creativity: with their soaring sophomore release, Venues fulfil every single promise they gave on Aspire.

“2020 showed all of us how much the band is helping us keep our sanity,” guitarist Robin muses. “Almost the whole band went through minor or medium crises since the release of our debut. Relationships went sour, things were ended and begun. In times like these, our second album was the light at the end of the tunnel. Something we all could look forward to. Our music held our heads above water.”

It’s a big leap, going from Aspire to Solace, and it’s a logical one, too. Ten songs, ten exorcisms of negative energy, ten lifesavers.

MØL announce new album DIORAMA and present first single and music video 'Photophobic'

On November 5th, blackgaze masters MØL are set to return with their eagerly awaited second studio album, DIORAMA, the group’s first for their new label Nuclear Blast Records. Recorded and mixed by Tue Madsen (GojiraMeshuggahHeaven Shall Burn) and graced by a cover artwork designed by Jon GotlevDIORAMA sees the band further developing its captivating, aggressive sound. With swirling guitars and hissing vocals blended into a dreamy ambience of shoegaze, the highflyers from Aarhus, Denmark, will deliver a crushing yet otherworldly follow-up to their debut album Jord from 2018.

Today, MØL unveils 'Photophobic', the first single taken from the band's anticipated sophomore studio album, which comes with a haunting music video directed by Kasper Jensen / M2 Film

"'Photophobic' is centred around denial and self-deception. Fear of exposure of one’s past", vocalist Kim Song Sternkopf explains. "The song encapsulates the dread of forcefully venturing through the painful but nonetheless important places of one self and your history.”

“Writing our debut Jord seemed like the culmination of our first two EPs. We had achieved a sound and an approach to creating music that is distinctly ours. DIORAMA is both refinement and exploration. I wanted to refine our sound, melodies, and compositions, but also push the boundaries of our music and explore new paths and things we haven’t done before. Our approach to music has never been restricted by any dogmas and we’re stalwart believers in eclecticism."

Further info about the eight new album tracks, as well as the chance to pre-order DIORAMA will follow shortly.

Inspired by bands such as My Bloody ValentineSlowdiveDrop NineteensLantlôs and AlcestMØL released their self-titled debut EP in 2014. A year later they perfected their sound with their second EP II which was produced by Jacob Bredahl. Both EPs were well received and drove them on to do some emphatic live shows which were praised by press. In 2018, MØL made an international breakthrough signing with Holy Roar Records (UK) who released their debut album Jord to critical acclaim. The record was recorded at Grapehouse Studios and mixed and mastered by Chris Kreutzfeldt.  The album was also released as an instrumental version and in 2019, the band re-released their two first EPs, remastered for CD and vinyl.

Metalcore quintet This Dying Hour release Linkin Park cover
This Dying Hour New press shot.jpg

The mashup comes as a tribute to the late Chester Bennington, available now.

On Thursday 20th July 2017, the world lost a living legend. UK based metalcore band This Dying Hour struggled to comprehend that we now live in a world without Chester Bennington, who through Linkin Park, provided a torch in a world of darkness to millions across the world. This Dying Hour have released a mash up cover of 'Points of Authority/99 Problems/One Step Closer' to commemorate the vocalist.

Stream the single here: https://biglink.to/thisdyinghour
Watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmlle_7kf7s

Doing a Linkin Park cover was a no-brainer for This Dying Hour, however selecting a song that demonstrated their love for Chester Bennington and Linkin Park, but also captured the spirit of This Dying Hour, was the tough part.

Jay-Z’s original vocal on ‘Points of Authority/99 Problems/One Step Closer’ depicted the struggles he faced in life just for looking different, and carries a message that not only awarded him a Grammy but is a reminder that the fight for equality continues; not just racial equality but equality for all. For that reason, This Dying Hour decided to use the lyrics in their original integrity.

The band comment: “Ultimately, we had a lot of fun producing this cover and although we will never be a “preachy” band, this has given us the opportunity to continue Chester and Jay-Z’s message in the positive way it was intended.”

Formed in 2005, This Dying Hour wanted to leave an impression on their local scene. It was a time when Architects, Sylosis, TesseracT, Bleed From Within and Bury Tomorrow were all breaking ground, who This Dying Hour had the pleasure of supporting across the UK.

However in 2017, tragedy struck when vocalist Dave Pickup lost his life after a fatal hit and run accident. A year later, tragedy struck again with the passing of founding member Sean Crossey, who sadly lost his battle with cancer. These devastating events took a huge emotional toll on the band, losing friends who they considered to be family.

In 2020, bassist Nat Douglas and guitarist Ash Whitelock decided it was time to make music again. "It was something that we contemplated for a while but never thought would happen," says Douglas. Although the tragedy of the untimely passing of two of the band’s original line-up is never far from their minds, with the addition of new members Gaz Ward, Duncan Lee, and Julia Hogan, This Dying Hour remain loyal to their roots, authentic sound, and community.

The band started 2021 as they meant to go on, having already gained recognition from BBC Introducing and DSP Playlists with their 4-track EP Fire And The Blind. ‘Cornered’ was the first single from the EP, a concept single written from the perspective of both Jessie Pinkman and Walter White of Breaking Bad. Having a split personality, that person often struggles with addiction: “I'm not in danger, I'm the danger.”

Against all the odds and even as their sound evolves, the legacy of their original incarnation lives on.

For fans of Slipknot, Killswitch Engage and As I Lay Dying.

About Death From Above 1979 (DFA)

Death From Above 1979 (DFA), the boundary pushing musical alliance created by Sebastien Grainger and Jesse F. Keeler, roared out of Toronto with the uncompromising one-two punch of 2002’s fuzz-bomb EP Heads Up and 2004’s epochal debut album You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine, complete with a North American arena tour with Nine Inch Nails and Queens of the Stone Age, before deciding mid-tour to part ways due to the strain of constantly touring.

Almost a decade later, the rekindled DFA fireworks lit stages around the world a blaze - amassing a posse of fans so passionate they incited a genuine, barricade-smashing riot at Austin’s Beauty Bar at the 2011 South by Southwest Festival. Playing Lollapalooza, Coachella, Glastonbury, Reading / Leeds, Osheaga, Lowlands and more, DFA continued to take the world by storm. Their second album, The Physical World (2014) took a No. 3 spot on the Canadian Billboard album chart and peaked at No. 28 on the U.S. Hot 200, not to mention No. 3 and No. 7 shots on Billboard’s Top Alternative and Top Rock registries, respectively. TV appearances around their first two albums on iconic late-night shows including David Letterman, Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Fallon showed a whole new audience the DFA live goods.

Arriving at No. 20 on the Canadian Billboard album chart, DFA’s scorching 2017 outing, Outrage! Is Now prompted Pitchfork to remark that “Death From Above now sounds more vital than ever.” With three smashing albums to their name, the duo drummed up an easy 10 million views before going silent once more, to the dismay of fans.

Now, DFA are back with the return of their new album, Is 4 Lovers - once again creating a new sound and reimagining the format they created more than 20 years ago.

Bound In Fear announce new album and stream single featuring Nick Arthur of Molotov Solution

'Penance' video streaming now

Penance is available 15th October via Unique Leader Records

UK deathcore quintet Bound In Fear have announced their new upcoming album and unveiled the record's title track and first single, 'Penance.' Penance is due for release 15th October via Unique Leader Records.

Featuring guest vocals from Nick Arthur of Molotov Solution, watch the video to 'Penance' here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHam6Zjvw-0

On the single, the band comment: "‘Penance’ is a song about the people who are supposed to support you through the hardest times turning their backs on you - it’s a song about betrayal. The song depicts the deep feelings of hurt and anger manifesting into dark, twisted fantasies of revenge and how the aftermath of injustice can linger within us as we crave the closure we may never get."

On Nick Arthur's guest performance, the band continue: "We are really excited to have Nick Arthur of Molotov Solution on the track - we all looked up to his band and vocals a lot when we were first getting into extreme metal. He is truly a legend of the scene, and we are proud that we can have his brutal vocals as part of our new album!"

Pre order Penance here: https://orcd.co/penance

Turning towards a new age with their sophomore record, the band state that "Penance, our second full-length, is a natural successor to our 2021 EP Eternal and explores how feelings of pain and hopelessness can develop into something more foreboding and lingering. While Eternal focused on inward emotions and the root causes of trauma, Penance is what happens when those emotions are facing outwards."

‘"Pain is my Penance, life is my sin’."

With Penance looming, Bound In Fear are ready to show the extreme metal world that they are here to stay, and here to slay.

Since their formation in 2016, UK quintet Bound In Fear have been creating uncompromisingly heavy music and in a short time have crafted a niche for themselves amongst the ungodly heavy. Their first release Regicide was received incredibly well by the underground scene, selling out of all pressings. The band spent the release cycle playing shows around the United Kingdom and mainland Europe. The accrued reputation the band gained resulted in a record deal with Unique Leader Records.

The next step in Bound In Fear’s catalogue of monstrously heavy music was the 2019 debut full-length The Hand Of Violence. The lyrical content took a very dark and personal route, while the compositions became more structured, intricate, and menacing. The release propelled Bound In Fear into a new echelon of the extreme music scene, seeing their streaming stats increase heavily and CD, vinyl and merch sales beating all expectations.

In early 2021, Bound In Fear followed up with the Eternal EP, a collection of five songs crafted with detailed soundscapes, a result of increased collaboration within a refreshed line-up, and a hunger for ever more extreme compositions, sounds, and tones. Eternal stands as a testament to the new direction of Bound In Fear, without leaving behind their previous works.

Vocalist Ben Mason comments “Bound In Fear to me has always been self-explanatory - it's about things that we go through in life that define us as people. The Eternal EP touches on memories that manifest into nightmares, substance abuse, childhood trauma and everything in between that we don't talk about because we feel ashamed.

“In our music we always try to give an honest experience to show people that they are not alone, but to also help them understand that being angry, sad, upset and confused is okay - not everyone can see what happens behind closed doors. The things that we experience may be Eternal, but they can also be beaten.”

Alt-rock quartet El Moono release video for new single 'Forced To Smile'
El Moono 2021.jpg

'Forced To Smile' out now via Lockjaw Records.

Alt-rock quartet El Moono have released a video for their brand new single 'Forced to Smile', out now via Lockjaw Records.

The band worked with Kieran Gallop (GLKMedia) at The Spire in Brighton to create the video for ‘Forced to Smile’. The juxtaposition of social and religious ‘normalities’ is portrayed through a ‘happy’ birthday party, with a vast spectrum of imagery.

Originally premiered via Distorted Sound Magazine, check out the video for 'Forced to Smile' here: https://youtu.be/tcydKesTPeY

Stream/purchase 'Forced to Smile' here: https://elmoono.lnk.to/forcedtosmile

El Moono comment on the new single:

“We’ve been sitting on this song in particular for over two years now and we’re so relieved and excited to finally be putting it out into the world. Since writing 'Forced to Smile', it feels as though the lyrics have come into sharper focus given the social/political landscape of the past year.

"The majority of Parliament have recently shrugged off the changing of vital laws that directly impact the LGBTQI+ community and how their gender/identification is legally recognised. This blatant dismissal of human rights is something we cannot accept in 2021 – 'Forced to Smile' is about not accepting our reality as ‘good enough’. The song also tackles the subject of toxic masculinity that is engrained deep into our society. Living day to day and forcing ourselves to be happy, forcing ourselves to smile, just to keep going. We dream to make a difference in whatever way we can.”

Signing to Lockjaw Records marks a new era for El Moono. Following their 2019 single 'Thanks for Nothing' (Small Pond Records) and heavy touring around the UK and Europe with the likes of Black Peaks, Phoxjaw, Haggard Cat, Fangclub, and Press to MECO - El Moono are back with a vengeance. With influences of rock, hardcore, metal and grunge, the band's off-kilter and oftentimes mind-bending riffs, emotive songs and expressive lyricism combine to create a sound that’s difficult to pigeonhole.

‘Forced to Smile’ follows 'Thanks for Nothing', their self-released EP 'Tides' and standalone single 'Aura'. El Moono's captivating music have seen support from Kerrang! Radio’s Alex Baker, who has played every single to date on his show, as well as Amazing Radio and more.

With an upcoming tour supporting Haggard Cat, festival appearances, including Burn it Down and Attitude Festival, and their first hometown show in two years lined up for 2021, there’s no stopping this promising quartet.

Live dates:

31.07.2021 – Portals Festival
10-11.09.2021 – Burn It Down Festival
23.09.2021 – Newquay, Whiskers (w/ Haggard Cat)
24.09.2021 – Plymouth, The Junction (w/ Haggard Cat)
25.09.2021 – Exeter, Cavern (w/ Haggard Cat)
26.09.2021 – Attitude Festival

Chilean prog rockers Aisles release new single 'Disobedience'
Aisles2258bhorizontalp.jpg

Taken from band's long-awaited fifth studio album.

Acclaimed Chilean prog rockers Aisles have released their new single 'Disobedience', out now via the band's own Presagio Records. The track, which follows previous single 'Fast', is another glimpse into the band's forthcoming album - more details to be announced soon.

Check out 'Disobedience' here: https://youtu.be/ggq_U5rM_1s

'Disobedience' is influenced by the heaviness of Animals as Leaders and the rhythmic expressions of hip hop, as well as elements of pop and the fusion style of Allan Holdsworth and Richard Spaven. "We have broken the scheme of our own music: this song is more direct, more powerful and more contagious," explains Germán Vergara, Aisles' guitarist. Drummer Felipe Candia adds: "this song is marked by a rebellious energy, with a hint of something that is coming, but with an uncertain ending."

Lyrically, the single is inspired by disobedience as a positive act of seeking identity: “obedience to yourself, or disobedience to others, is necessary for life. There is also a sense of overcoming guilt, restarting and forgiving yourself,” concludes Felipe.

'Disobedience' was recorded at Estudio del Sur, produced by Angelo Marini and Germán Vergara, mixed by Pepe Lastarria (Kuervos del Sur, Nunca Seremos Dichosos) and mastered by American engineer Randy Merrill (Muse, Paul McCartney, Beck, Liam Gallagher).

The group, formed by Germán Vergara, Israel Gil, Rodrigo Sepúlveda (guitar), Juan Pablo Gaete (keyboard), Felipe Candia (drums) and Daniel Concha (bass), are working on their fifth studio album. The new album moves away from the sonic experiences and concept of the band's previous album Hawaii, to open up a more direct and powerful sound. “We have done a very exhaustive job: we put pressure on ourselves to change our paradigm,” says the producer and guitarist.

A shining example of prog rock's universal reach, the Chilean band, formed more than 15 years ago, have a long and illustrious history. Previously nominated in the Italian Prog Awards, Aisles are the only South American group to be invited to France's Crescendo Festival de Rock Progressif. The band released their fourth studio album Hawaii in 2016, a monumental, immersive, beautiful double-disc journey, reminiscent of Camel, Yes, Rush, Genesis, Marillion and more.

Aisles can lay claim to being South America's most important progressive band of the past two decades. Hawaii was declared a masterpiece and received attention from Prog, NeoProg, iO Pages and many more. An exciting new era awaits.
