The heaviest music Atlas have ever written, 'VERI' is Finnish for 'blood', and documents the journey of healing and letting go.

Guitarist Tuomas Kurikka comments:

"'VERI' is one of the most dynamic songs from the upcoming album with so many different genres and influences mixed together. A true sacrifice for the northern gods."

Atlas are a five-piece modern metalcore band from Tampere, Finland labelling themselves as 'Northcore'. The quintet's sound combines mammoth riffs and gloomy soundscapes, that draw inspiration from the cold of the North. Their releases include 2016 EP Northern Lights, 2018 standalone singles 'Birthright' and 'The Catalyst' and debut full-length Primitive, as well as their 2019 single trilogy.

The quintet explore a new sonic palette on their second album UKKO, drawing inspiration from Finnish folk music and poetry, combined with the dark soundscapes and dynamic songwriting the band have become known for. Lyrically and thematically, UKKO explores themes of death, healing, rebirth and faith, presented in a seamlessly blended mix of English and Finnish. UKKO was mixed and mastered by Buster Odeholm (Vildhjarta, Oceano, Humanity's Last Breath, Born of Osiris), who brought his unique approach and sound to the album.

Atlas have played throughout Europe with the likes of Monuments, Miss May I, VOLA, Kadinja, Adept, Eskimo Callboy, One Morning Left and We Butter The Bread With Butter. Their debut album Primitive climbed the Finnish album charts to number six and came to life on a European tour with Monuments, receiving praise from fans and critics alike.

Global metal stars Alien Weaponry release new fan-driven single 'Buried Underground'
P1038754.jpg

Alien Weaponry head out on the road alongside Gojira and Employed To Serve in 2022

New album Tangaroa due 17th September via Napalm Records

International metal stars Alien Weaponry have returned with the second single, 'Buried Underground', from upcoming release Tangaroa, out 17th September 2021 via Napalm Records.

Watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BE2OPJFccQM

The band united international fans in lockdown by asking them to submit a video of themselves performing a signature 'stomp' and star in the official 'Buried Underground' music video. Those not included in the video will still have the chance to have their 'stomp' shared with fans worldwide, by hashtagging #AWburiedunderground and tagging the band to be featured on Alien Weaponry's social media.

Since releasing their acclaimed debut (2018), the New Zealanders’ kinetic presence and sound – combining elements of thrash and groove metal with lyrics in the native indigenous language, te reo Māori — has attracted throngs of fans and media supporters across the globe. As with their 2018 single 'Kai Tangata' – which has amassed more than 10 million views on YouTube and claimed the number-one spot on SiriusXM Liquid Metal’s “Devil’s Dozen” for 13 consecutive weeks – much of Tangaroa is immersed in the historical stories and cultural heritage of the Māori people.

In addition, Tangaroa details stories of personal struggle and growth, as well as crucial environmentalism topics.

Having achieved past and present tours and festivals with the likes of Slayer, Black Label Society and Gojira, and being hailed the “future of metal” by esteemed magazine Metal Hammer (UK) and voted by Revolver Magazine (US) fans as “one of the bands most likely to break out in 2021”, Alien Weaponry are poised to dominate with Tangaroa. The album coalesces Alien Weaponry's growing maturation with an undisturbed songwriting process, resulting in their most inspired, honest and informed material yet.

In addition to lyrics written in te reo Māori, many tracks feature traditional instruments, called taonga puoro, providing the tracks their own warrior-like attitude. Rhythmic, dynamic album opener 'Titokowaru' begins with determined rowing chants and depicts the tale of a famous war chief that challenged the colonial government in New Zealand and led a rebel army, backed by quick riffage and driving drums. Following standout 'Hatupatu', inspired by the harrowing, legendary tale of a de Jong ancestor facing off with a witch, is carried by frenzied guitars, spirited chanting and tribal-like percussion. While Alien Weaponry sourced inspiration from their culture and environmental surroundings while writing most of Tangaroa, the band also looked inward – drawing vision for other portions of the album from within. The album dives into some of their most effecting personal experiences, with English-language songs like the pensive 'Unforgiving' about facing self-loathing and insecurity, and the swirling, charging 'Buried Underground' detailing the aftershocks of drug abuse.

Accented by personal touches like its entrancing album art originally conceptualized from drawings by Lewis de Jong, Tangaroa is a massive next step for a band on the rise, encompassing all of the elements that make Alien Weaponry heavy metal’s most authentic rising stars.

Henry de Jong says about Tangaroa:
“The album is tied together with the message of ‘Tangaroa’ - the whole album is more a snapshot of the band’s brains during the writing process. We have also written songs that are about some of our first tūpuna (ancestors) who were here in Āotearoa (New Zealand). Hatupatu, who is very famous in Māori history, as well as Īhenga, who named a number of places in Āotearoa during his travels.”

Lewis de Jong adds about the album’s artwork and thematic details:
“The album is named after the track ‘Tangaroa’, and we went with this theme on the artwork. The album is drawn from some new experiences we've had as well as some ancient Māori tales. I think we have stepped things up from the last album.”

Bassist Tūranga Morgan-Edmonds also adds:
"This album's use of even more traditional Māori sounds and styles is a very exciting step forward for us."

Tangaroa tracklisting: 1. Titokowaru 2. Hatupatu 3. Ahi Kā 4. Tangaroa 5. Unforgiving 6. Blinded 7. Kai Whatu 8. Crooked Monsters 9. Buried Underground 10. Dad 11. Īhenga 12. Down The Rabbit Hole

Resolve release video for new single 'Emerald Skies' and announce debut album
Resolve -New 2021 (to use).jpg

Between Me and The Machine due 26th November

'Emerald Skies' out now via Arising Empire

Resolve have released a video for their brand new hard-hitting single 'Emerald Skies', and announced their debut album via Arising Empire. Between Me and The Machine will be released 26th November.

Check out the video for 'Emerald Skies' here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdwhrdVUENA

Preorder Between Me and The Machine here: https://resolve.lnk.to/bmatm

On the new single, the band state: "It truly feels incredible to finally unveil our new single 'Emerald Skies' along with the announcement of our debut album Between Me and The Machine. It’s been quite the journey to get to this point, but now we feel like we’re readier than ever to show the world the full scope of Resolve.

"We don’t get to say this too often but it is 100% the heaviest track we’ve ever written. Massive riff after massive riff, it’s as relentless as it is haunting. The music video is also quite a step up for us, we wanted to experiment with a more cinematic video for a while and this track was the perfect moment to do it. We all pushed our DIY abilities to a whole new level for this one, and our director
Aurélien Mariat has outdone himself once again."

Resolve are a band that have been savouring every second of their journey so far and biding their time - observing, learning, building - and making sure that every single aspect of how they’ve wanted the band to function was fully realised before delivering it to the world.

Starting their journey back in 2016 after their previous projects parted ways and their intentions set on this being their forever band, vocalist Anthony Diliberto, bassist Robin Mariat and drummer Nathan Mariat have spent the last half a decade tinkering with the formula that feels the most suited to them. Making their first mark in 2017 with debut EP Reverie, before following with standalone single ‘Carmela’ in 2018, it wasn’t until 2019 that they felt truly at home in their sound.

That was in the form of Pendulum, a collection of three songs that not only represented the beautifully bludgeoning and densely expansive sound that was resting in the back of their heads, but also found them appearing on Spotify’s New Core, New Metal Tracks and Kickass Metal playlists.

Now is their time to show you what they have been working on - and it is quite the spectacle.

Resolve will support LANDMVRKS on their upcoming UK/European tour, joined by Glassbone.

Russian celestial blackgaze trio TRNA release debut atmospheric music video for 'Istok'

New album Istok due 3rd September via Candlelight

Debut music video 'Istok' is available now

Russian celestial blackgaze trio TRNA have released their debut music video for 'Istok', the title track of their upcoming new album, released 3rd September via the fabled Candlelight Records.

Watch the music video for 'Istok' here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmlOT350wsI
Pre-order Istok here: https://TRNA.lnk.to/IstokPR

The black and white music video for 'Istok' follows the narrative of two protagonists, a white cloaked figure and a black cloaked figure, as they encounter each other's presence in a cornfield. The video visually tells the story of the album - to meditate on the importance of nature, finding inner peace, and gaining a viewpoint on life and the world.

On the inspiration for the debut music video, the band state: "It was written, directed, shot, and cut by our friend Gleb Kolotov in September 2020. It was the first time we did something like this. We hired actors, costumes, rented lenses and lights, and we think it all paid off in the end. The hard thing was to write the screenplay based on our vague descriptions about the track's meaning and what the album is about. In the end what we have is a beautiful music video with a plot and we’re really thankful to all of Gleb and his crew for helping us so much."

TRNA want to take you on a journey. Not to their Russian homeland, but beyond that, to a place not on any map, where the trio’s dreamy “celestial blackgaze” can properly get beneath your skin and into your mind. With their fourth album, Istok, their first for Candlelight Records, they’re pushing even further into the unknown.

The band formed in 2013 in Saint Petersburg, following the breakup of similarly blissful-minded outfit, Princ Persii. Though not wanting to limit themselves to a genre, the tag of “celestial blackgaze” fit so well that it stuck – descriptive enough to catch their vibe, loose enough to have no walls. The band list artists like Wolves In The Throne Room, Panopticon, Amenra, Godflesh and shoegaze pioneers Slowdive as influences, but TRNA exist very much in their own otherworldly space.

Istok impresses with its vastness, its depth and its message. Recorded at Dobrolet Studios in Saint Petersburg and, in part, in their rehearsal space, TRNA wanted Istok to meditate on the importance of nature, and in finding an inner peace from which to get a viewpoint on life and the world.

“What is Istok? Istok is the place where all begins, where you go when you feel that you can’t bear your everyday life,” the band explain. “It’s the great nothingness where you find peace. It’s the salvation and relief. But to get there is a whole journey and it’s different for everyone."

TRNA is always about nature,” they continue. “Of course we would like our music to speak for us and reading what people say about how they feel listening to it makes us believe that we manage to somehow get the message across.”

Across Istok, this takes many forms, from a more gentle serenity to cascading eruptions of black metal. The opening title-track bursts with glory and wonder, while 'Echoes of the Past' is a blastbeat-led rager, and the 13-minute instrumental 'Shining' is the euphoria after a storm. It all stems from the same purpose, and beautifully locks together to create an intense emotional journey.

The UK underground entity only known as Sleep Token, fronted by Vessel, began the Sundowning ritual on 20th June 2019 with ‘The Night Does Not Belong To God’. Sleep Token began to release their ‘offerings’ bi-weekly, released Thursdays at Sundown BST with accompanying visualisers. Each offering had its own emblem, establishing the Sleep Token universe on the debut album Sundowning. This 18th June, 2021, the cycle begins again but born anew. First Fragment release new single 'La Veuve & Le Martyr'

Gloire Éternelle album out 29th October via Unique Leader

'La Veuve & Le Martyr' single streaming now

Quebecois tech-death masters First Fragment have unveiled new single 'La Veuve & Le Martyr' from their upcoming new album, Gloire Éternelle, out 29th October 2021 via Unique Leader.

Pre-save Gloire Éternelle here: https://orcd.co/gloireeternelle

On the new single, guitarist Phil Tougas explains: “'La Veuve & Le Martyr' is one of our most varied songs and definitely not as neoclassical as our first single 'Pantheum'. The Shrapnel Records artist roster from the 80s and 90s remains the band's biggest source of inspiration.

"The riffs feature a lot of twists and turns and some counterpoint once in a while, but the swing-down grooves are the most interesting part. They're directly inspired by
Greg Howe's early records as well as Joey Tafolla's 2nd solo album Infra-Blue. Just the first riff after the flamenco intro alone was basically me saying "Okay, what if I took the song 'Dynamo' by Obliveon, removed the open-string notes, added slap bass and it's performed by Greg Howe and Tafolla if they did extreme metal. The harmonised solo right before the trade-off uses slides, plentiful whammy bar action and big-d*ck 80s wide-vibrato. You can literally dance to that solo.

"In between it all, you also get one of the most aggressive vocals and most hyperactive drumming performances we've ever belted out. These 286 bpm blasts and 16th note double bass drum bursts may make you feel like someone is injecting crack straight to your heart when you hear them."

From day one First Fragment sought to create a brand of extreme technical death metal that combined counterpoint-based riffing, neoclassical lead guitar work, power metal-inspired passages as well as flamenco & swing sections, with desire to establish their own unique voice.

Their critically-acclaimed 2016 debut album, Dasein, released through Unique Leader, was the culmination of almost 10 years of hard work and dedication to their craft. First Fragment have since perfected their sound through expanding upon their extensive musical influences, further blurring the line between flamenco-inspired technical death metal and neoclassical power metal.

The result is Gloire Éternelle, an ambitious conceptual album that is unmistakably First Fragment, yet at the same time, impossible to categorise and pigeonhole. Baroque-influenced guitar counterpoint, flamenco sections, unique slap-bass-driven swing grooves (which the band trademarked by name as "swingdowns"), face-ripping lead guitar work and bombastic drumming, combine with a highly aggressive dual vocal approach and lyrics soaked in abstract poetry (sung in French), to create the ultimate shred fest. A shred fest with soul, memorability, identity, purpose and conviction.

Kaoteon and Death Tribe guitarist Anthony Assaker reflects on Beirut explosion one year on with new single featuring Jo Quail
Anthony shot 1.jpg

'Some Things Never Change (Words of a War Child)' video streaming now

Death Tribe album / movie Beyond The Red Light District: A Canal Experiment out now

Anthony Assaker, guitarist and songwriter of Lebanese breakthrough metal bands Kaoteon and Death Tribe, has released a solo acoustic song 'Some Things Never Change (Words of a War Child)', reflecting on the devastating Beirut explosion one year on.

Featuring Jo Quail on cello, watch the lyric video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1m5blc1LRk

Anthony commented "Today marks one year since the massive non-nuclear explosion in Lebanon that took the lives of 218 people, injured 7,000 and left 300,000 homeless. My house in Beirut was damaged beyond repair, the streets I played in as a child changed forever beyond recognition. This event rendered the Lebanese hopeless as the situation seems helpless. This is what Lebanon has been ever since I saw the light.

"We always try to comfort ourselves and look at the positive side of things. My parents are “at least” alive, our houses were destroyed but “at least” we are all still here, we lost all our hard earned life savings but we “still” have our body parts.

"This is the result of a corrupt regime that has paralyzed a nation and knocked out its rebellious spirit into a coma of numbness - One year later and there is still no one to blame and no hope of a better tomorrow. On the contrary, the situation worsens each day, the Lebanese are fighting for basic supplies: from simple medicine to gasoline. This is heart-breaking. What hurts even more is knowing that many other nations that suffered and made news headlines are still suffering in silence and the world goes on.

"This is an exemplary life of a war child who did not chose the land nor the race nor the religion they were born into. George Carlin once said: “Pride should be reserved for something you achieve or obtain on your own, not something that happens by accident of birth. Being Irish isn't a skill... it's a … genetic accident. You wouldn't say I'm proud to be 5'11"; I'm proud to have a pre-disposition for colon cancer.”

"This works the other way around too, some people are cursed for a lifetime of troubles and hardship because they hold the scars of the nation they were born into. The difference between you and them is just destiny.

"Thank you to all those who helped and continue to help make the world a better place for future generations. We are all one nation sharing one planet floating in the vast dark space - together we are stronger."

This follows his politically-charged solo acoustic song, 'Who's To Blame'. Highlighting issues such as discrimination, racism and social injustice in the world, an unlisted version of the song went viral within the Middle-Eastern community during the US election, racking up over 70k plays whilst still unlisted. The video was filmed in Amsterdam, where Anthony now resides. Now officially released, watch 'Who's To Blame' here: https://youtu.be/fEgwBjpxli8

Anthony Assaker has had a busy year so far, not only with his solo work, but he also released his critically acclaimed Death Tribe album, Beyond The Red Light District: A Canal Experiment, and completed work on a new Kaoteon record. More news soon.

The first of a two-part cycle, 'Empath' will see its video release shortly.

On the new single, Fayne state: "'Empath' is about how viewing music (or art in general) as a language rather than just a form of expression can allow us to connect and understand people on a deeper level than just conversation, even between 2 vastly different people. Putting your awareness and emotion into a piece of art or work is acknowledged by other individuals who have also done the same, even if it was in their own way. I guess in short, the song talks about the unique bond and understanding artists have with each other through art and expression itself. How deep that bond goes is up to the people in question, but the idea is that this can be achieved and in a world of art and music it very much exists."

Currently in line to release their most heavy hitting EP thus far in early August 2021, 'Empath/Hubris' is self-produced and will be released independently. The overall character and tones created on this EP showcase the growth, expanded sound and focused direction Fayne has taken.

Fayne’s progressive metalcore experience causes physical and emotional responses you never knew existed. Introspection, the process of understanding and the hunt to discover what’s behind the veil of everyday life are some of Fayne’s state-altering musical themes.

Fayne, from Montreal, deliver heavy-driven drums, crushing guitar riffs and bass lines, crowned with powerful clean and screaming vocals. Elements of The Contortionist, Car Bomb, and Misery Signals all crash and collide in glorious splendour, heard to full effect on 'Empath'.

The band began to make waves in the mid -00s, performing alongside Alexisonfire, Underoath, and Hopesfall. After pursuing other musical interests, the band reunited with 2014's The Queen Of Kings, leading to a self-booked 9-day tour through Quebec and Ontario, as well as supporting slots for The Contortionist and Vanna.

Fayne then recruited Justin Furtado (formerly of Red Skies and Feels Like Home) on vocals, before releasing their debut LP Journals in 2017. Released in 2018, the band's single 'Grimspeak' saw success with strong streaming figures, holding the #4 spot on CJLO's LOUD! Chart, and placing them at #67 on CJLO's Best Metal Band of 2019 list.
