Australian four-piece Triple One introduce 'BLOOD RAVE', the first new track since their chart-topping 2020 debut album Panic Force.

The genre-bending alt hip-hop group, Triple One, are riding high ten months after releasing their debut album to critical acclaim and the #1 spot on the ARIA hip-hop charts. The anthemic new track, 'BLOOD RAVE', was co-produced with Melbourne’s Lucianblomkamp (6lack, Mallrat), and the video was created in collaboration with Western Sydney visual artist Serwah Attafuah (Charli XCX, Nike).

The world has been constantly changing and challenging in these last ten months since Panic Force, but the Sydney group have been hard at work throughout it all, including playing to sold-out crowds on a national tour, garnering praise from Rolling Stone, NME, GQ and more. The foursome’s debut blended hip-hop with punk, pop and beyond, but ‘BLOOD RAVE’ is something new—and it marks a sharp shift in a new direction. The smoky, almost industrial production set a gripping scene, snaking its way beneath the understated and seductive opening lyrics. Soon, it breaks out with huge, soaring vocals which dramatically intertwine with gritty, revealing rhymes.

“The song touches on pleasure and the consequences of chasing pleasure,” vocalist Marty Bugatti says. “Indulging in temptation, lust and the areas in between. It’s about being in a constant cycle of chasing expedient joy and putting off responsibilities to be dealt with later. And then, when it’s time to deal with the consequences, it’s often too late.”

To him, the song is all about the “constant paradox of the different forces in your life guiding decisions and your ultimate fate”. It’s a paradox felt not only through the lyrics, but the intense, dynamic production itself. There’s a lesson to be learned in it all, too. “People say live in the moment, who cares, be free,” Marty says. “But if you don’t have foresight in your life you turn stagnant and wander around aimlessly. If you’re in it you can’t see it.”

The accompanying video is every bit as suggestive as the song itself, with Serwah Attafuah’s signature futuristic 3D visuals evoking a hypnotic, remarkably surreal landscape. “My aim was to create a surreal and sexy feminine universe in which the Triple One characters are lost,” she explains. “Visually, I didn’t want it to be just a loose conceptual piece, so making it as literal as possible was pretty important to me. It’s always a pleasure to collaborate with Triple One, they definitely put a tonne of thought into all their visual elements and always come through with the hardest concepts.”

Triple One are impossible to categorise, and even harder to ignore. Brash bars come courtesy of rappers Marty Bugatti and Obi Ill Terrors, melodic hooks by Lil Dijon float in paranormal fashion while greyscale production is expertly crafted by Billy GunnsTriple One are a sonic experiment between hard, soft, and all the textures in between.

Triple One's early cult singles 'Doozy' and 'Overflow' scored millions of views and streams internationally, but 2019 was the year that Triple One broke into Australia's consciousness: their singles 'Showoff', 'Tarlo' and 'Valentine Kid' were added to high rotation on triple j, and they were also profiled by Complex, GQ and Highsnobiety. Their 2019 single 'Butter' also dominated radio airwaves and led to the group's debut UK/European tour and five sold-out shows across Australia. 'Butter' was later certified Gold in Australia.

In 2020, Triple One released their debut album Panic Force which debuted at #1 on the ARIA hip-hop charts, and #8 on the ARIA album charts. It was also crowned the triple j 'Feature Album of the Week'. Onstage is where Triple One truly state their case. Having earned a notorious live reputation through relentless gigging across Australia, 2021 saw the band sell out their Panic Force Tour nationally in the midst of difficult pandemic circumstances. The release of 'BLOOD RAVE' heralds the exciting next chapter for Triple One.

Baltimore-based nu-punk band Cherie Amour have announced their debut EP, Internal Discussions, set for release 1st October on Rude Records / Equal Vision Records. The band have also shared their new single and video, 'A Beautiful Mess, A Perfect Disaster' to coincide with the announcement.

Vocalist Trey Miller commented on the single: "'A Beautiful Mess, A Perfect Disaster' is about a very specific situation in my life that never really got resolved. From a music standpoint, it was one of the more difficult songs for me to do. I just couldn’t come up with melodies for a long time and I came up with the final idea for the song a couple of days before recording it. I love how poppy the song is and it’s possibly my favorite hook that we’ve written."

Composed of Trey Miller (vocals), Casey Reid (guitar), Brendan Willis (guitar) and Ronnie Sherman (drums), Cherie Amour are out to carve their own path in the alternative music scene. Tossing aside their worries of being pigeon-holed into one particular genre, they have embraced the self-proclaimed title of “nu-punk”. Taking influence from a plethora of artists such as Linkin Park, MGK, Bring Me the Horizon, Don Broco, and Dance Gavin Dance, the band expertly craft genre-blending sounds into each track they create. Having already gained a rapidly growing fanbase from previous singles 'Burn' and 'Orlando', Cherie Amour are reeling to break boundaries with the release of Internal Discussions and solidify 2021 as their year.

Synthwave originator Dynatron returns with new single, animated video and album
unnamed - 2021-09-07T151830.636.jpg

Danish synthwave pioneer Dynatron has released new single 'Origins' with a stunning animated video, taken from his upcoming album of the same name, set for release 15th October via Blood Music.

Watch the video to 'Origins' here: https://youtu.be/PSzNvha6MpM

Pre-order Origins here: http://www.blood-music.com/store

The video was animated by the French pixel artist Kryssalian; each frame was drawn by hand, and it took six months to create. The production was a collaboration between Kryssalian and Blood Music.

Dynatron comments: "The title track 'Origins' is about the journey to find and discover our roots. Kryssalian did an amazing job portraying this visually, and I'm very excited to release this video to the world."

A trailblazer in off-world soundscapes, meticulously crafting the soundtrack to eternal space exploration and interplanetary discovery, Dynatron returns after a five-year hiatus with his long- and highly-awaited third album Origins.

The artist's most personal work to date, Origins is a quest for meaning through the infinite chaos, a meditation on loneliness and the painstaking search for hope. During the past decade, the synthwave scene has risen, splintered, and sub-splintered; but Dynatron remains anchored as one of its true, original voices. Building upon the cinematic atmosphere of his previous work – exploring a large variety of vintage analogue synthesisers – Origins is the perfect throwback to the genre's origins. Retro, ethereal, and passionate.

The album touches upon synthwave's foundations while expanding Dynatron's scope through a wider range of musical instrumentation.

“I wanted to explore orchestral sound, giving the album a more human feel. I used choir and strings on multiple occasions, mixing them against synth flourishes to create a supernatural aura,” says Dynatron's mastermind Jeppe Hasseriis.

Origins follows 2015's ground-breaking second album, Aeternus, and its creation took Dynatron on a five-year exploration into the abyss of self-discovery. The album was never meant to be personal, but through its creation, Hasseriis realised the astronauts stranded in darkness mirrored his own personal struggles. The only way out was through hope.

Canadian progressive metalcore quartet Fayne stream new single 'Hubris'

Canadian progressive metalcore quartet Fayne have released their brilliant new single 'Hubris'.

Stream 'Hubris' here: https://faynemusic.com

'Hubris' is the second of a two-song cycle following the band's brilliant seven-minute epic 'Empath'. Watch the video for 'Empath' below - and stay tuned on news of the 'Hubris' video shortly.

Fayne, from Montreal, deliver heavy-driven drums, crushing guitar riffs and bass lines, crowned with powerful clean and screaming vocals. Elements of The ContortionistCar Bomb, and Misery Signals all crash and collide in glorious splendour, heard to full effect on 'Empath'.

Fayne’s progressive metalcore experience causes physical and emotional responses you never knew existed. Introspection, the process of understanding and the hunt to discover what’s behind the veil of everyday life, are some of Fayne’s state-altering musical themes.

The band began to make waves in the mid -00s, performing alongside AlexisonfireUnderoath, and Hopesfall. After pursuing other musical interests, the band reunited with 2014's The Queen Of Kings, leading to a self-booked 9-day tour through Quebec and Ontario, as well as supporting slots for The Contortionist and Vanna.

Fayne then recruited Justin Furtado (formerly of Red Skies and Feels Like Home) on vocals, before releasing their debut LP Journals in 2017. Released in 2018, the band's single 'Grimspeak' saw success with strong streaming figures, holding the #4 spot on CJLO's LOUD! Chart, and placing them at #67 on CJLO's Best Metal Band of 2019 list.

Bound In Fear stream harrowing new single / video 'Beyond The Mire'
unnamed - 2021-09-07T114106.616.jpg

UK deathcore quintet Bound In Fear have released new single / video 'Beyond The Mire', the third taken from their upcoming sophomore album, Penance, out 15th October via Unique Leader Records.

Shot by Gaz Davies and showcasing the band's bleak vision, watch the video to 'Beyond The Mire' here: https://youtu.be/-E983MSyFTM

'Beyond The Mire' represents a recurring nightmare that becomes harder and harder to distinguish from reality. The song’s lyrics explore the possibility that a nightmare could haunt you in your waking state, not just when you are asleep.

Guitarist Ben Sutherland comments: "The line between conscious and unconscious is something that is a great thing to explore in dark and heavy music. In this track we tread the tracks between thoughts that plague us in our waking hours, and how they manifest in our nightmares. The lyric ‘save me from insanity, is this my reality’ represents this troubling duality."

Since their formation in 2016, UK quintet Bound In Fear have been creating uncompromisingly heavy music and in a short time have crafted a niche for themselves amongst the ungodly heavy. Their first release Regicide was received incredibly well by the underground scene, selling out of all pressings. The band spent the release cycle playing shows around the United Kingdom and mainland Europe. The accrued reputation the band gained resulted in a record deal with Unique Leader Records.

The next step in Bound In Fear’s catalogue of monstrously heavy music was the 2019 debut full-length The Hand Of Violence. The lyrical content took a very dark and personal route, while the compositions became more structured, intricate, and menacing. The release propelled Bound In Fear into a new echelon of the extreme music scene, seeing their streaming stats increase heavily and CD, vinyl and merch sales beating all expectations.

In early 2021, Bound In Fear followed up with the Eternal EP, a collection of five songs crafted with detailed soundscapes, a result of increased collaboration within a refreshed line-up, and a hunger for ever more extreme compositions, sounds, and tones. Eternal stands as a testament to the new direction of Bound In Fear, without leaving behind their previous works.

With second album Penance looming, Bound In Fear are ready to show the extreme metal world that they are here to stay, and here to slay.

Signs of the Swarm face their demons with powerful new single / video 'Death Whistle'
unnamed - 2021-09-06T165741.215.jpg

US modern deathcore heavyweights Signs of the Swarm have unveiled new single / video 'Death Whistle', taken from their forthcoming album, Absolvere, out 24th September 2021 via Unique Leader.

One of the most dynamic tracks on Absolvere with the addition of melodic vocals, watch the video to 'Death Whistle' here: https://youtu.be/XDiIwtJqfO8

Vocalist David Simonich commented "'Death Whistle' is a conceptual piece inspired by the ancient Aztec relic used in war. Entwining this idea to represent the end of our pain and sorrow that fuels the war within ourselves.

"While composing 'Death Whistle,' we as a group had our own individual challenges and griefs to overcome. Sharing my experience publicly, I went through the hardship of losing my mother. To this day, I struggle with the constant battle within myself that there was something else I could have done to change what had happened. Full of regret, I dwell on my actions of the past where I believe that if I were around that my influence could have changed the outcome.

"This song has a special place in my heart for it was the first time the band fully collaborated on the lyrics of a song. Pouring our souls, 'Death Whistle' was born."

Guitarist Jeff Russo continues: “I brought the 'Death Whistle' concept to the table after stumbling across videos of them online and feeling inspired by their chilling nature. Coming full circle to tie this together with our personal struggles and the lyrical content of the song, I felt pouring our feelings of being overwhelmed and crushed by life’s obstacles and tragedies was fitting. The end beckons to us, it instils fear in us, but we answer its call and we are swallowed by it. It’s a dark fantasy entailing the agonies of depression, loss, and letting go, but one I feel many can relate to at times.”

Pre-order/save Absolvere here: https://orcd.co/absolvere

This follows previous single 'Hollow Prison' featuring Alex Erian of Despised Icon, listen here: https://youtu.be/yVPU2yhmd7k

On fourth LP Absolvere, Signs of the Swarm are bleak without being blackened, smashing without being slam, and downtempo as a choice rather than a stylistic confine. They contrast that with some of the most brutal moments in their seven-year career, with riffs more punishing than pensive and a rhythm section that frames them in creatively cacophonic ways. Above it all, they’re utilising vocalist David Simonich's monstrous range in a much fuller capacity than on his debut, 2019’s Vital Deprivation. That transitional album found the band experimenting to re-find their footing. Though the addition of guitarist Jeff Russo could suggest growing pains, they sound more confident than ever with Simonich’s former Improvidence bandmate sliding right in.

Simonich roars about the real (loved ones struggling with addiction, submitting one’s self wholly to art despite negativity swirling about) and the surreal; he or his characters beg for the release of death only to be denied. The album's finishing touch is Ben Duerr (Shadow of Intent) and Alex Erian (Despised Icon) joining the band for guest vocals.

On the album, Bobby Crow continues: Absolvere makes good on the musicality we were striving for on Vital Deprivation and combines it with the eerie atmosphere and brutality on our first two albums. We added a myriad of new sounds, techniques and vocal styles as we collectively composed each song from the ground-up.”

Proven as a major force on the stage, Signs of the Swarm have toured with the likes of Aborted, Lorna Shore, Shadow of Intent, Brand of Sacrifice, Ingested, Disentomb, Traitors and more. US and European tours soon to be announced, more news soon.

Blackened sludge band Mastiff release new single/video 'Midnight Creeper'

UK blackened sludge five-piece Mastiff have released their new video for 'Midnight Creeper'. Premiered via Brooklyn Vegan, the track is the third to be taken from their devastatingly heavy Leave Me The Ashes Of The Earth album, set for release on 10th September via eOne.

'Midnight Creeper' picks up where the previously released single 'Repulse' left off. Sonically, it stands among the most chaotic and savage moments of Leave Me The Ashes Of The Earth whilst lyrically, it's the record’s most enraged. It is a brutal blackened grind track that cements Mastiff as true contenders in the extreme metal scene.

Pre-order Leave Me The Ashes Of The Earth here: https://www.mastiff-hchc.com

Commenting on the video, the band said: "Our mindset when writing ‘Midnight Creeper’ was along the lines of, ‘what if Will Haven was a grindcore band?.' The song originally had a whole extra part at the end, but after months of sitting on the song during the first lockdown in 2020, we revisited it and realised it was totally not needed, and that the grind part that ends the song now was a far more fitting way to disorient and bamboozle people.

“Lyrically, ‘Midnight Creeper’ is one of the more personal and angry tracks on Leave Me The Ashes Of The Earth and deals pretty directly with a person who was very close to the band and that we all considered a friend, who was unceremoniously outed as a predator and a liar. The feeling of disgust and betrayal within our musical community hung over us for a long time and we wanted to make a clear statement that we stand behind victims, we abhor abusers, and that consent is everything. That we picked one of our most brutal songs to convey that message seemed fitting, really.”

Crafted in just five days at No Studio with producer Joe Clayton (Pijn, Wren, Leeched), the band’s third full-length, Leave Me The Ashes Of The Earth, is a misanthropic masterpiece. The sorrow-filled souls of every miserable cretin it reaches will stir in basements, hovels, pubs, and darkened alleyways. Conceived during a pandemic-enforced longest stretch between Mastiff records, the album paints on the band’s familiar canvas, but with a far larger palette than ever before.

Forged in 2014, Mastiff's unique combination of blackened sludge, grindcore, and powerviolence creates a bleak and chaotic atmosphere, sounding as if the spawn of CrowbarThis Is Hell, and Napalm Death composed an album inside the Lake Of Fire. The unrelenting, brutish curmudgeon aura of Mastiff can be deceptive however, as bright sparks of nuance and jarring adventurousness lurk behind every riff, rumble, and anguished, painstaking bellow stitching together a soundtrack suitable for betrayal, depression, self-loathing, and total despair, with winking, devilish glee. The bulldozing din of Mastiff is akin to the catharsis in setting something aflame just to watch it burn.

About Mastiff

A miserable band from a miserable town. Mastiff hails from a tiny port city called Kingston Upon Hull, founded by 12th-century monks, and bombed to the brink of obliteration during World War II. Over the years, spiraling social depravity, poor education, and crushing economic collapse pummeled the English town, rendering it dreary and inhospitable. Hull is the end of the road for many, literally and figuratively, as its geographical location ensures that it’s not quite on the way to anywhere. It’s a specific type of human-made hell in which some folks seem destined to die without ever having left. It’s also the kind of place capable of grotesque beauty where suffocated artists might thrive.

Thank heavens for Hull, then, because Mastiff churns out delightfully depressing missives of misanthropy. Determinedly swaying between harrowing bleakness and hateful immorality, Mastiff weaponises their world-weariness and wit with brutal sludge and volatile, raw, hardcore grind. If a festival featuring Napalm Death, Nails, Converge, and Tragedy somehow survived a “Hull Blitz” of the nuclear variety to emerge as a post-apocalyptic, five-headed beast? Its name would be Mastiff.

A pair of early EP outbursts summoned a furious fuzzed-out thunder, reminiscent of the sludgy bar room brawl rock favored in New Orleans, with shades of the darkness cloaking fellow English bands of the doomier variety. Wrank (2016) and the Bork EP (2017) furthered the despair and paranoia.

And then sophomore album Plague blew the damn doors down. Recorded live-in-the-studio in just two days, Plague demonstrated Mastiff's seamless shapeshifting from harsh noise to blackened hardcore and back again. The sludge still seeped from the foundations, like a foul stench from under the floorboards. Despite the raw recording setting, Mastiff somehow sounded more polished and less restrained at the same time. A slew of stark raving reviews from sometimes disgust-adverse tastemakers like Kerrang!, Metal Hammer, and Metal Injection symbolised Mastiff's momentum.

Mastiff put their open-wound sound and spirit on display at shows with CrowbarBiohazardConjurerCult Leader, and Iron Monkey, among others. They’ve proved adept and capable at delivering devastating performances with a diverse cross-section of heavy acts and their respective audiences. Festival appearances propelled the band’s miserable might, deepening a nascent cult status.

Alternative pop-rock band True North release video for new single 'Save Me'
True North.jpg

Los Angeles alternative pop-rock band True North have released a video for their new single 'Save Me', out now via via Out Of Line Music. 'Save Me' follows the band's successful single 'Your Confession', which featured a guest appearance from Sleeping With Sirens' Kellin Quinn.

Check out the video for 'Save Me' here: https://youtu.be/07Da7escLPs

Stream/purchase 'Save Me' here: https://truenorth.lnk.to/saveme

True North's Michael Cisterna and Joel Ferber comment on the single:

"This song is unique for us because it was originally written with our friends Julian and Dylan from Loveless. It started off as way more of a heavy rock song, but as we continued working on it, we ended up adding more pop and electronic elements."

The result is a dark, moody track, that blends equal parts pop, electronic and heavy rock, offering a glimpse into the band's new direction.

Lyrically, 'Save Me' explores the attempt to find meaning and happiness through other people and relationships, realising it's a dark cycle that won't end until you learn to find it within yourself. The verses paint a picture of somebody obsessing over a relationship that they think will ultimately bring them a sense of fulfilment, whereas the chorus takes a step back, offering a sense of realisation and clarity.

For the music video, True North wanted to try something a bit different to match the track's atmosphere.

The band continue: "Instead of a traditional full-band performance video, we decided to focus on Tim's performance and just create a really moody atmosphere that complimented the song. The video was directed and edited by Zack Perez – who we also worked with on the video for 'Your Confession' – and additional text graphics were added by our drummer, Michael. For the text, we were really inspired by Gaspar Noe – particularly the title sequences from his movies Enter the Void and Climax – and we wanted to emulate a style of text that was so visually stimulating and jarring all at once. We wanted the video to be aesthetically pleasing and interesting, yet somewhat uneasy and uncomfortable as well."

True North bridge the gap between rock, pop and electronic, combining their array of influences to create their unique and captivating sound. The band are building a solid fanbase through their honest approach to songwriting, resonating with music fans across the globe.

The band's previous single 'Your Confession' feat. Kellin Quinn was championed on Spotify's Rock Hard, New Noise and The Scene playlists, garnering almost 200,000 streams.

James Kent commented: "HEALTH took the track and made it completely theirs, adding vocals and changing the rhythm, it all sounds great".

The original single version of 'Excess' features on new full-length album, Lustful Sacraments, out now via Blood Music.

Kent
continues: "'Excess' is the first track I made for Lustful Sacraments. It is the most representative of the rest of the album and its themes of self-destruction."

On the covers EP, Kent continues: "With the album version of 'Excess' being released, I thought it would be interesting to add something unusual and asked bands that I respect to make their own cover of the song. They had complete freedom to do as they pleased and put their own spin on it. Each version is unique but all equally great."

Tracks from the Excess EP will be released one-by-one over the next few months, with a final release date in the second half of 2021.

New album Lustful Sacraments - which was written, performed, produced and mixed by Kent - represents his most mature work to date, merging the dark synthesised tones that brought Perturbator to worldwide prominence with classic post-punk, goth, and heavy techno rhythms. The album deftly weaves Perturbator’s cinematic textures with thundering drums, subtle electronic melodies and in-your-face guitar hooks.

Lustful Sacraments also features special guest appearances from Hangman's Chair and True Body.

Dark electro master Perturbator is considered by many as the face of retrosynth.

In 2012, Perturbator's onslaught of initial releases ('Night Driving Avenger,' 'Terror 404,' 'Nocturne City,' and 'I Am the Night') rocketed him through the ranks of retrosynth producers – receiving tons of accolades and comparisons to John Carpenter, Goblin, and Vangelis. As he continued to hone his skills as a producer, Perturbator actively searched for something deeper within electronic music.

This took a darker turn with his 2014 smash breakthrough Dangerous Days and went deeper into the mire with 2016's Billboard-chart topping The Uncanny Valley. But James “Perturbator” Kent was feeling the limitations of the genre he helped redefine.

The 2017 album New Model eschews the nostalgia and pop culture references controlling the synthwave scene, feeling that they interfere with true subject matter. Of course, there are a vast array of influences at work on New Model - ranging from Kraftwerk to Lorn to D.A.F and Nine Inch Nails – but Kent wanted to break out and explore releasing music on its own merit, rather than regurgitating tropes.

2021 will see the release of a new Perturbator album, more details soon.

… French dark-futuristic act Perturbator… [mixes] metal’s energy and lack of self-consciousness with the blazing synths of ’80s gore flicks and video games.” - Kerrang

“…it’s dark and creepy and overwhelming…” - Decibel
