Hacktivist Press Shots-20.jpg

New album Hyperdialect out now via UNFD

"vicious and vital" - Rock Sound

UK grime-metal quintet Hacktivist have announced their Hyperdialect UK headline tour, set to take place in December 2021. The band will be joined by guests Kid Bookie and Graphic Nature across the five dates.

The news follows Hacktivist's triumphant return to the stage earlier this month for Slam Dunk Festival, their album release party at London's Signature Brew and a headline set at Burn It Down Festival.

Co-vocalist Jot Maxi comments: "New album, new world, support acts we love - it doesn't even need saying that this tour is going to be a next level celebration for everyone involved!"

Dates for the tour are as follows:

5th Dec - Bristol, Exchange
6th Dec - Birmingham, Mama Roux's
7th Dec - Glasgow, Stereo
8th Dec - Manchester, Rebellion
9th Dec - London, Underworld

Tickets will be on sale at 10am BST on Wednesday 29th September, available here: https://www.hacktivist.uk.com/shows

Hacktivist released their eagerly anticipated album, Hyperdialect, in June via UNFD, described as their "most tightly wound and venomously intoxicating work to date" by Kerrang!, whilst Rock Sound named it "vicious and vital" and Metal Hammer declared the title track "bursts with urgency and flexes the band's genre-fluid muscle." Hacktivist's singles were also championed by BBC Radio 1's Jack Saunders and Daniel P. Carter, Kerrang! Radio and more.

Question everything. Consider your sources. Be wary of ulterior motives, insidious media narratives and even your own unconscious bias. Trust sparingly and try to make smart, informed choices. As the world slides further into ruin at the behest of old, rich white men ruling with catastrophic, zero-sum thinking, it’s more important than ever to be vigilant and fight back against the forces that be who seem hell-bent on creating a dystopian future for us all.

Luckily, Hacktivist are back to help cut through the noise and bullshit, tooled-up and ready to attack with renewed vigour and reinforced ranks; with Jot Maxi and J. Hurley now sharing the vocal and lyrical load, drummer Rich Hawking and bassist Josh Gurner bringing the beats and rhythms, and guitarist and production don James Hewitt fleshing out the group’s genre-fluid muscle. Hewitt played a very active role in Hacktivist's writing and recording process, bringing a new and compelling dynamic to the table.

In 2016, when Hacktivist initially set sights on their enemies with debut album Outside The Box, the world wasn’t fully equipped to heed their warnings and pay attention to its timely rallying cries. They return into a very different one, however – a world that’s sadly now all-too-finely-attuned to the horrors they first forecasted four years ago. In the wake of a global pandemic that has sharpened collective senses and exposed the systematic flaws across society, these should be times primed and ready for the truth-bombs that Hacktivist are about to drop. But recent hardships only amplify the band’s messages – these dispatches from the edge were written way before a virus brought humanity to its knees.

If all of that sounds grim and miserable, fear not, because Hacktivist aren’t here for unhelpful told-you-so's or sensationalist scaremongering. What use would holding a mirror up to all of this ugliness be if there weren’t some lessons to learned from the reflection, or at least to offer even the faintest glimmers of hope? "It’s becoming clear that we are on the brink of some type of revolution," says Jot Maxi, with no small dose of conviction or optimism. "Hacktivist are here to bring truth and positivity – the silver lining of a society clouded in poisonous fear. Hacktivist also represents a voice that isn’t afraid of saying what needs to be said. We’re already living in the future. We have the choice to either be shaped by it or to stand up and shape it ourselves. Which path will you take?”

It was with those battle lines clearly drawn and ambitions duly set that Hacktivist entered into the creation of Hyperdialect. Starting almost two years ago and developing on the acerbic sonic filth introduced by 2019 singles 'Reprogram' and 'Dogs Of War', the five-piece felt fired up by their new working dynamic and the collective process involved, with each member actively encouraged to contribute ideas until the best outcome was reached. Unusually, for such a group of bloody-minded insurrectionists, this democratic approach worked wonders – a testament to how much they were all on the same page on these 12 tracks. Aside from guest spots from rapper Kid Bookie on the monstrous Armoured Core and Betraying The MartyrsAaron Matts lending his vocal talents to the title-track, this was all Hacktivist: no filter, no frills, and no holding back.

Melodic metalcore outfit Tragedy Of Mine release new single 'Evolution'

Melodic metalcore band Tragedy Of Mine have released new single 'Evolution', the first taster of the band's upcoming album, due for a 2022 release via Out Of Line Music.

'Evolution' sets things straight for all material moving forward: it will become heavy, melodic, dark, and gloomy. Keeping the overall sound of modern metal somewhat on the mark, Tragedy Of Mine mixes aggressive growls with melodic choruses.

The masked frontman Steffen Bunke remarks: "The music we write and carry into the world has become much more mature. There is, as with the first album, a lot of tragedy and sorrow in the music. Since the last output, we have dived even deeper into the thematic, and we now want to share it again with other people. With our new single 'Evolution' we are expressing precisely that. In this case, though, it's specifically about the tragic existence of the character." Some call the music of Tragedy Of Mine unusual, others experimental, "we bring people together utilising this project, empower individuals and support our fans where we can," confirms the singer.

"After the first album, many messages reached us from people that songs like 'Inferno' and 'Prison' have helped them get over their personal struggles. This ability to help people is something we connect with the album and carry this over and over again when we play live. That's really special to us."

A new album is planned for 2022 and will be released worldwide via Out Of Line Music. Purposefully thinking outside the box is as much a part of Tragedy Of Mine's agenda, as is their style, which repeatedly proves that an aggressive feel and catchy songs can pair up in the best possible way.

Victor Vu - Guitar

Franz Niermann - Bass

BAILER release video for new single 'B*stard Son'
Bailer PR Photo Resize.jpg

Debut album Disposable Youth out 12th November 2021 via Blood Blast Distribution

“They’re a band that already sound so colossal, they could probably beat Magneto in a fight.”
Alex Baker, Kerrang! Radio Fresh Blood

Irish metallic hardcore quartet BAILER have released a video for their new single 'B*stard Son'. The track is the third glimpse into their long-awaited debut album Disposable Youth, due for release on 12th November 2021 via Blood Blast Distribution.

The video for 'B*stard Son' was directed, animated and edited by Mt Emult (Genghis Tron, Year of the Knife, Veil of Maya). Watch it here: https://youtu.be/-cLYEHhQkew

'B*stard Son' showcases the more intense, bitter and abrasive side of the band's debut full-length. Clocking in at under two minutes, 'B*stard Son' wastes no time slapping the fury in your face over blast beats and breakdowns, and should be a stark surprise to those who thought BAILER may have softened their sound on Disposable Youth.

Pre-order Disposable Youth and stream 'B*stard Son' here: https://bfan.link/bastardson

Following on from 2018's self-titled EP (Distroy Records), 2017’s PTSD and 2016’s Shaped By The Landscape, BAILER’s ambitious collection of tracks is about to expand and truly propel their notoriety outside of their native Ireland.

Recorded, mixed, mastered and produced by Lewis Johns at The Ranch Production House in Southampton, Disposable Youth dives into a grim view of the world from a place of manic depression and nihilism. 100% of the material was written in a room together: no writing on computers or demos being shared around virtually. For Disposable Youth, BAILER consciously decided to write every single song in a jam room together, fleshing it all out and creating what felt right in real life. There's nothing wrong or right about any form of creativity, but the results speak for themselves.

Having impressively garnered attention from Metal Hammer, Kerrang!, Metal Injection and Heavy Blog Is Heavy so early into their career, BAILER have proven to be Ireland's most exhilarating heavy band. With an impressive live résumé to match, playing shows alongside Norma Jean, Sick Of It All, The Black Dahlia Murder, Conjurer, Employed To Serve, Palm Reader, Malevolence, God Mother, Coilguns and more, the quartet are setting their sights on becoming one of hardcore's most exciting prospects.

In the years leading up to the COVID-19 pandemic, BAILER began to mark their territory further afield, having successfully toured Russia and the UK extensively in support of their EPs. Now, with their debut album on the horizon and after kicking off proceedings with Bloodstock Festival last month, BAILER are eager to get back on international stages.

New album Swagger & Stroll Down The Rabbit Hole due 2nd November via Candlelight/Spinefarm

The unstoppable octet Diablo Swing Orchestra continue fearlessly on their musical rollercoaster ride! Hurtling towards the release of their stupendous fifth album Swagger & Stroll Down the Rabbit Hole on 2nd November via Candlelight/Spinefarm, with the release of their second single 'Celebremos Lo Inevitable'.

Comments guitarist/vocalist Daniel Håkansson: "The song draws inspiration from the Mexican holiday Día de Muertos and its celebration of friends and family members who have passed on but still live in our hearts and through our memories of them. It's our first song in Spanish and since we wanted it sound authentic, we had a Mexican vocal coach in the studio just to get the pronunciation correct."

The spirited progressive eight-piece Swedish ensemble are known for pairing elements of jazz, swing, classical and progressive rock with just about everything in between. Since their foundation in 2003 the band have released four studio albums which push musical boundaries to the extreme with humour, creativity and a healthy dose of positive aggression. Their debut The Butcher’s Ballroom was a breath of fresh air when it came out in 2006 to worldwide critical acclaim. The band's fifth effort Swagger & Stroll Down the Rabbit Hole is by far their most ambitious undertaking which pays tribute to all four previous releases and adds some new colours to their already broad pallet of sounds.

DSO have once again teamed up with producer Roberto Laghi (In Flames, Hardcore Superstars) who has become almost the ninth member of the orchestra. Together they've dug deeply into each of the genres explored in the thirteen album tracks and worked hard to find the appealing genre characteristics to forge their own sound. This approach has resulted in a impressive list of guest musicians and some very interesting clashes between sounds which, at least on paper, shouldn’t work. Listeners with an open mind will be rewarded by numerous goodies littered throughout the album, ranging from the tribal assault that is 'War Painted Valentine' to the Zeppelin-gospel-infused 'Snake Oil Baptism'.

As with many bands Covid-19 presented multiple challenges but also granted opportunities which allowed them to take their time in the studio since there was no tour waiting to happen. The mixing process alone took over half a year but Diablo Swing Orchestra are confident that they've produced an album which will leave an indelible mark, whilst inspiring others to try out fresh ideas on genre blending.

French synthwave maverick Hollywood Burns returns with new single, stunning video and album
unnamed - 2021-09-23T154220.206.jpg

French master of cinematic dark synth Hollywood Burns (aka Emeric Levardon) has released new single 'Saturday Night Screamer' with a stunning video, taken from his upcoming album The Age of the Saucers, set for release 12th November via Blood Music.

Filmed in a disused particle accelerator near Paris, watch the video to 'Saturday Night Screamer' here: https://youtu.be/YxL4cK6G_8U

Pre-order The Age of the Saucers here: http://www.blood-music.com/store

Directed by Emeric himself, he commented: "'Saturday Night Screamer' takes inspiration from the sequence in "Mars Attacks" where aliens fire weapons at people while communicating: "Don't run, we are your friends." The song tells the tale of a horrible invasion of Earth through an ironic, upbeat song."

On the creation of the video, he continues: "I directed the music video myself, and we were lucky to get permission to shoot in a decommissioned particle accelerator outside Paris. We kept the same ironic spirit and derision found in the song."

French composer Emeric Levardon drew on his experiences making music for TV and films to create a one-of-a-kind project and in 2016, Hollywood Burns was born. Hollywood Burns boldly marries the retro-electro pulse of synthwave with the majesty of film orchestra, applying inspiration from the work of legendary composers John Williams and Bernard Herrmann.

Time out from touring over the pandemic allowed Levardon to complete Hollywood Burns's sophomore saga: The Age of the Saucers. Conceived as a sequel to debut album Invaders, The Age of the Saucers is a heavier and more pessimistic release than its predecessor.

Invaders took the point-of-view of the intruders, telling of their joyful and successful invasion of our planet. The Age of the Saucers takes place several years later on a post-apocalyptic Earth, showcasing a planet decimated by chaos. We enter the point-of-view of the last remaining humans, trying to survive a crumbling world.

The album is marked by more dramatic production with the introduction of darker and sometimes slower tracks, as well as quieter and more melancholic tones. In addition to his science fiction influences, Levardon also takes new, heavier inspiration from Mick Gordon and Crystal Castles. Illustrating a desire to bring new ideas to its universe, Volkor X joins the list of the limited guests to appear, bringing a taste of progressive rock.

The Age of the Saucers opens a door to a new galaxy of adventures more frightening and more dangerous than ever before.

Dual bassist prog trio The Omnific release new single 'Fountainhead'
unnamed - 2021-09-23T154014.786.jpg

Melbourne progressive instrumental trio The Omnific - featuring the unique line-up of two bass players and a drummer - have streamed their new single 'Fountainhead', from their forthcoming debut record Escapades.

The Australian trio's much anticipated first LP Escapades will be released 8th October, via Wild Thing Records. Since releasing the initial single from the album, 'Wax & Wane', in May, the band have more than doubled their monthly listener count.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/-GSctCj28xo
Stream the song here: https://smarturl.it/theomnific

Pre-order: https://smarturl.it/theomnific

Bassist Jerome Lematua comments: "If The Omnific had a track that displayed pure emotion, pushing past the absolute worst of everything, 'Fountainhead' would be it. For me, this song represents how anyone can push past their demons and succeed no matter the situation. Never giving up is a hard part in all aspects of life, that many people never get to see or understand, but to me this song gives me hope. If it can give me hope, then I'm confident it can give someone else out there the same hope."

Escapades is the band’s most adventurous work to date, an instrumental mosaic that dances between the edges of progressive rock, djent, funk, nintendocore, and synth-driven electronic soundscapes, an aural experience akin to a journey to an alternate world through a dimension-hopping Tesla.

The album features a guest bassist performance from Clay Gober of Polyphia on the track 'Antecedent', with the record being brought to life by mixing engineer Adam Bentley (Felix Martin, Arch Echo), and mastering from Ermin Hamidovic (Periphery, Devin Townsend Band, Plini).

After releasing three stunning EPs the band have attracted interest and fans from all corners of the globe clocking in over 5 million Spotify streams and 2 million views on their Youtube channel. The Omnific’s accessible style is for all music lovers; from those seeking to be challenged to those who wish to be blanketed by atmosphere, creating an identifiable sound and diverse international fan base. With swirling textures, syncopation, euphoric highs and melancholic lows; The Omnific are truly captivating.

The band have established working relationships with reputable companies Darkglass Electronics, Neural DSP and Dingwall Guitars, seeing them represent the brands with performances at the Melbourne Guitar Show, bringing attention amongst the ‘Gear-Nerd’ community. Coupled with their online play-through, gear demo and music videos, the band’s reach is beyond what many would expect from this impressive Melbourne trio so early in their career.

They are also no stranger to the live circuit with a stack of domestic and international touring under their belt, having toured with Between the Buried and Me (Australian Tour) Cog (Sold Out Australian Tour), Intervals & Sithu Aye (European Tour), several of their own headline Australian tours as well as supporting Ne Obliviscaris, Galactic Empire, Circles and others.

First Fragment release new single 'Solus'
unnamed - 2021-09-23T133826.200.jpg

Quebecois tech-death masters First Fragment have unveiled new single 'Solus' from their upcoming new album, Gloire Éternelle, out 29th October 2021 via Unique Leader.

Watch the visualiser to 'Solus' here: https://youtu.be/wZyK3fMG820

Pre-save Gloire Éternelle here: https://orcd.co/gloireeternelle

On the new single, the band comment: "Our 3rd single SOLUS is quite different from either of the singles we have released thus far. It also draws a lot of inspiration from the 80s greats like Joey Tafolla, Cacophony, Elegy, Coroner, Apocrypha & of course Yngwie Malmsteen to further showcase a facet of our sound which we like to classify as "extreme neoclassical metal" - a rare genre where the vocals and drumming are closer to extreme metal while the non-death metal string work remains much closer to neoclassical power metal. While the previous two singles focused on swing grooves or highly complex neoclassical counterpoint fused with death metal, this song is pretty much an homage to the band's old school influences and contains less blastbeats than usual, giving more room for the dancing guitars and lead bass to express themselves. Enjoy and keep spreading the word!"

Watch the visualiser to previous single 'La Veuve & Le Martyr' here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBJ9CHZHf60

From day one First Fragment sought to create a brand of extreme technical death metal that combined counterpoint-based riffing, neoclassical lead guitar work, power metal-inspired passages as well as flamenco & swing sections, with desire to establish their own unique voice.

Their critically-acclaimed 2016 debut album, Dasein, released through Unique Leader, was the culmination of almost 10 years of hard work and dedication to their craft. First Fragment have since perfected their sound through expanding upon their extensive musical influences, further blurring the line between flamenco-inspired technical death metal and neoclassical power metal.

The result is Gloire Éternelle, an ambitious conceptual album that is unmistakably First Fragment, yet at the same time, impossible to categorise and pigeonhole. Baroque-influenced guitar counterpoint, flamenco sections, unique slap-bass-driven swing grooves (which the band trademarked by name as "swingdowns"), face-ripping lead guitar work and bombastic drumming, combine with a highly aggressive dual vocal approach and lyrics soaked in abstract poetry (sung in French), to create the ultimate shred fest. A shred fest with soul, memorability, identity, purpose and conviction.

Calling All Captains announce debut album & release video for new single 'Wasted'

Debut album Slowly Getting Better out 29th October 2021 via Rude Records/Equal Vision Records

Canadian pop-punk/post-hardcore quintet Calling All Captains have announced their debut full-length Slowly Getting Better, due for release on 29th October 2021 via Rude Records (UK/EU) / Equal Vision Records (ROW). The band have also released a video for their new single 'Wasted', the third taste of their upcoming record.

Pre-save Slowly Getting Better here: https://callingallcaptains.lnk.to/SGB

Calling All Captains comment on the new single:

"'Wasted' is for the ones who are stuck in their vices. It's tiring being a slave to addiction or substance abuse. Sometimes you play along and act the part, so you don't lose those closest to you. Do these people have your best interest at heart? Do you only hang out and drink? Will they be there for you at 3:00am on a Tuesday when you need it? This song reflects on the type of lives that we fall into as a young adult. Your twenties are not supposed to be a giant party. It is a difficult time transitioning between adolescence and adulthood. I wish I could tell my younger self to put down the substances and focus more on life's essential aspects."

Originating from small towns outside of Edmonton, Alberta, Calling All Captains have been manifesting the release of their debut full-length record, Slowly Getting Better, for the past few years and are eager to finally share their creations with the world.

Slowly Getting Better is a compilation of hardships, persistence, love, and acceptance, and is a thrilling follow-up to the 2019 EP, Nothing Grows HereCalling All Captains' unique sound allows them to dip their toes in both the pop-punk and post-hardcore realms using poppy instrumental elements with a punk-like, aggressive vocal style.

After their initial recording plans were halted in 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the band was able to bring in their Nothing Grows Here producer, Quinn Cyrankiewicz, and safely record the album at The Audio Department in their hometown. With more demos and songs than they’d ever written before, Calling All Captains got to work refining and perfecting every note of every song, taking weeks to decide which were good enough to make the cut for their debut album.

Calling All Captains have a fluid dynamic, where each member holds an untold responsibility for writing and being an asset to the band. Luc and Connor are the primary songwriters. Brad focuses on the technical elements. Tim concentrates on the beat, and Nick envisions how the songs will perform live and which technical aspects will draw the crowds in. According to Luc, this collaboration "allows the song to be relatable and personable to each member of the band."

The lyrics on Slowly Getting Better reflect the woes of their mid-twenties and issues about drugs and mental health, while simultaneously offering the listener the comfort of someone else who understands the struggle. 'Tailspin', the first single from the record, was an energetic and emotional track to kick off this cycle with, and it perfectly highlights the seamless collaboration of all of the members. "We didn't want any lull points, but we also didn't want to give too much away about the record," Brad states. Connor joins Luc on vocals and takes over a verse, to add even more depth to an already technical track.

Slowly Getting Better is a soundtrack for the struggling yet hopeful people out there. “Hang in there. We’ll all get better, together.
