New record Terra Phasma out 3rd December 2021

UK metal quartet Arkdown have released a video for their pummelling new single 'Badlands'. The track offers another glimpse of the band's upcoming record Terra Phasma, due for release on 3rd December 2021.

The band explain the meaning behind the new single:

"'Badlands' is very much a song about falling out of love and growing apart from someone. I took a lot of influence from one of my favourite lyricists, Tom Weaver, of the band Casey when I was writing this. We've all been through relationships that have gone sour. Similar to the first single we put out, 'Harbingers', 'Badlands' is my way of saying there's no hard feelings, I'm over it, I'm happy where I am. Music is something in the toolboxes of many people when it comes to dealing with their issues and I'm no exception. If someone is experiencing what I'm talking about in my lyrics I'd like to think that it'll give them solace in the idea that they aren't alone."

Arkdown have also announced a hometown Terra Phasma release show, set to take place on 3rd December at Corporation in Sheffield. The show is Arkdown's first since March 2020 and marks vocalist Joe Hallam's debut performance with the band.

Tickets are on sale here: https://www.corporation.org.uk/gig/2540

Arkdown are a four-piece metal band from Sheffield, UK. Formed in late 2015, the quartet draw heavily on modern metalcore and death metal influences, framed by their signature melodic, yet heavy, riff-based style.

Self-releasing their single 'In Torment' and their debut EP The Calling whilst touring the length of UK, Arkdown have supported a glut of heavy hitters in the scene, from Fit For An Autopsy and Oceans Ate Alaska, to Kingdom of Giants and A Night in Texas.

With the release of their second standalone single 'Miasmic', Arkdown's sound matured and extended their reach, as they broke out of the UK to play shows in mainland Europe - before COVID-19 put on the brakes. Arkdown spent that time refining their line-up and sound before working on their upcoming record, Terra Phasma.

Instrumental psych/stoner trio Kanaan release new single

'Pink Riff' streaming now

New album Earthbound released 12th November via Jansen Records

Instrumental stoner psych trio Kanaan have revealed their new single 'Pink Riff', taken from their brilliant new record Earthbound, released 12th November via Jansen Records.

Watch the video to 'Pink Riff' here: https://youtu.be/i81lSV5oVds

Stream: https://jansenrecords.com/s/pinkriff

Recorded live in Amper Tone Studio, the video is a perfect encapsulation and insight into the scintillating trio's creative process.

Emerging from an ocean of fuzz like a Kyuss that went to jazz school, power trio Kanaan return with their fourth studio album in as many years.

Earthbound will be released 12th November via Jansen Records – a change in direction for the still-young group. Where Kanaan’s former albums have been jazzy and psychedelic explorations, with forays into kraut and free improvisation, the new album Earthbound comes at you heavier than a ton of bricks. The heavier Kanaan bear elements of the best of stoner rock, psych and sludge.

Inspired by bands such as Colour Haze, Hawkwind, Elder, Motorpsycho and Acid Mothers Temple, Earthbound serves up plenty of surprising twists and turns, beautiful and mellow passages and masterful musicianship. Although never flashy, the whole album is a showcase of the three wildly talented musicians as they plough their way through enormous riffs and thunderous grooves.

Searching to perfect their hybrid of heavy rock and psychedelic jazz influences, the band isolated themselves in Halden's Athletic Sound studios, working day and night to accomplish what became Earthbound, a quantum leap for their sound in terms of sheer heaviness and psychedelic extravaganza compared to their previous albums.

Kanaan are:

Ask Vatn Strøm - guitars, percussion, oscillations
Ingvald André Vassbø - drums, percussion, speed Farfisa
Eskild Myrvoll - bass, synths, Mellotron, guitar

Demonstealer announces new EP The Holocene Termination
Demonstealer-HighRes.jpg

Released 3rd December via Demonstealer Records

Guest appearances from members of Fleshgod Apocalypse, The Amenta, Six Feet Under and more

Frontman of Demonic Resurrection

Sahil Makhija, better known as Demonstealer, has long been one of the pillars of the heavy metal scene in India. From being at the vanguard of a fledgling metal scene to becoming one of its most visible and respected proponents today, Demonstealer is integral to the growth of the Indian metal community.

He now returns, with his brilliant new EP The Holocene Termination, released 3rd December via Demonstealer Records. The release, featuring a stellar cast of guest musicians, is another entry in an astonishingly vital and storied carrier.

Pre-order: Demonstealer.Bandcamp.com (International) and Redwolf.in/Demonstealer (India)
View the teaser: https://youtu.be/_qGu5sD83dE

In 2000, Demonstealer formed Demonic Resurrection, one of India’s best known and biggest metal bands. Over the last two decades the band has become one of the most recognizable faces of Indian metal, nationally and internationally. Also in 2000 he established India’s first recording studio dedicated solely to metal - a home to all of the country's top metal bands.

Five years later he launched Demonstealer Records – India’s first metal record label. The roster included the best in India’s burgeoning metal scene, and licensed internationally renowned acts, including Behemoth and Dimmu Borgir. Demonstealer also founded and ran Resurrection Festival, alongside Demonic Resurrection bassist Husain Bandukwala. For years it was India’s only dedicated extreme metal festival. Needless to say, Demonstealer’s impact on the national scene cannot be overstated.

Aside from the success of Demonic Resurrection (5 studio albums, Metal Hammer Golden God award, multiple tours and festivals across UK and Europe), Demonstealer’s solo career is notable. From his debut album And Chaos Will Reign (2008) to 2021’s The Holocene Termination, Sahil has been blazing a thunderous solo trail.

Occasionally however, even a tireless musician like Demonstealer must call in outside forces. The guest appearances on The Holocene Termination are highly impressive, including Eugene Ryabchenko (Fleshgod Apocalypse), Anton Zhikharev (Gorgasm), Simon Schilling (Marduk), Robin Stone (The Amenta, Norse), and Jeff Hughell (Six Feet Under).

The range of talent on display is undeniable – all contributing to a thrilling near-20 minute ride from a highly significant musician.

ABOUT POWERWOLF:

The story of POWERWOLF, beginning in 2004, reads like a true fairytale, but is the result of the most hard-working and entertaining live band on the heavy metal planet. POWERWOLF has not only received plenty of Gold and Platinum awards to date, but numerous releases have entered the official German album charts at the top position of #1. With Blessed & Possessed (2015), POWERWOLF achieved Gold status (in the Czech Republic) for the first time, while its predecessor, Preachers Of The Night (2013), hit the official German album charts at #1, and the incredible DVD, The Metal Mass (2016), came in at #1 of the German DVD-Charts. POWERWOLF's holy mass in the name of heavy metal is unstoppable – their latest magnum opus, The Sacrament of Sin (2018), again entered the album charts at #1. The accompanying, almost completely sold out Wolfsnächte headline tour – in which POWERWOLF headlined large venues with their phenomenal stage performances – became a single major triumph, as well as the numerous summer festival shows in which crowds were thrilled and completely captivated by the wolves and their unique, (un)holy metal mass. With the new studio album, Call Of The Wild, and the Wolfsnächte 2021 tour charging through the largest halls in Europe, 2021 will again be a year completely under the sign of the wolf pack!

Calling All Captains release video for new single 'Laurel Canyon'
Calling All Captains New 2021.jpg

Debut album Slowly Getting Better out 29th October 2021 via Rude Records/Equal Vision Records

Canadian pop-punk/post-hardcore quintet Calling All Captains have released a video for their new single 'Laurel Canyon'. The track is the fourth taste of their upcoming debut album Slowly Getting Better, due for release on 29th October 2021 via Rude Records (UK/EU) / Equal Vision Records (ROW).

Check out the video for 'Laurel Canyon' here: https://youtu.be/GJD8K9zbRr0

Stream/purchase 'Laurel Canyon' here: https://callingallcaptains.lnk.to/Laurel

Pre-save Slowly Getting Better here: https://callingallcaptains.lnk.to/SGB

Calling All Captains comment on the new single:

"'Laurel Canyon’ was the first song that we KNEW we were writing for this album. It kind of jump-started the creative process and bridged the gap between our writing style in Nothing Grows Here and the styles you’ll hear on Slowly Getting Better.

"The opening riff was actually written during one of our big US tours. We had stopped in a local guitar shop in Rochester, NY to kill some time and Connor picked up a Laurel Canyon acoustic, and out came that opening guitar part. We took a quick video to remember it, and then later when we returned home we paired it up with some lyrics inspired by real events in our lives. There are a lot of new flavours on this album, and ‘Laurel Canyon’ encapsulates a large portion of them all in one song. Feast your ears.”

Originating from small towns outside of Edmonton, Alberta, Calling All Captains have been manifesting the release of their debut full-length record, Slowly Getting Better, for the past few years and are eager to finally share their creations with the world.

Slowly Getting Better is a compilation of hardships, persistence, love, and acceptance, and is a thrilling follow-up to the 2019 EP, Nothing Grows HereCalling All Captains' unique sound allows them to dip their toes in both the pop-punk and post-hardcore realms using poppy instrumental elements with a punk-like, aggressive vocal style.

After their initial recording plans were halted in 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the band was able to bring in their Nothing Grows Here producer, Quinn Cyrankiewicz, and safely record the album at The Audio Department in their hometown. With more demos and songs than they’d ever written before, Calling All Captains got to work refining and perfecting every note of every song, taking weeks to decide which were good enough to make the cut for their debut album.

Calling All Captains have a fluid dynamic, where each member holds an untold responsibility for writing and being an asset to the band. Luc and Connor are the primary songwriters. Brad focuses on the technical elements. Tim concentrates on the beat, and Nick envisions how the songs will perform live and which technical aspects will draw the crowds in. According to Luc, this collaboration "allows the song to be relatable and personable to each member of the band."

The lyrics on Slowly Getting Better reflect the woes of their mid-twenties and issues about drugs and mental health, while simultaneously offering the listener the comfort of someone else who understands the struggle. 'Tailspin', the first single from the record, was an energetic and emotional track to kick off this cycle with, and it perfectly highlights the seamless collaboration of all of the members. "We didn't want any lull points, but we also didn't want to give too much away about the record," Brad states. Connor joins Luc on vocals and takes over a verse, to add even more depth to an already technical track.

Slowly Getting Better is a soundtrack for the struggling yet hopeful people out there. “Hang in there. We’ll all get better, together.

Legendary atmospheric metal band Aquilus release new single 'Into Wooded Hollows'

Bellum I out 3rd December via Blood Music

Legendary atmospheric metal band Aquilus return with 'Into Wooded Hollows', their first single from their second full-length album, Bellum I, out on 3rd December via Blood Music.

Watch the music video for 'Into Wooded Hollows', shot in Hungary, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CulvAUzgh08

On the single's concept, AquilusHorace Rosenqvist explains: "The old woman lighting a fire in the dark represents death, and the young woman washing her clothes in the water at sunset represents life and rebirth."

Preorder Bellum I here: http://www.blood-music.com/

"Bellum I is an atmospheric metal album with a fusion of classical film, folk, and black metal influences, continuing in the tradition of the work started on the first album, Griseus, and evolving to new levels," says Rosenqvist.

'Into Wooded Hollows' is the first new music from the enigmatic band since the release of Griseus, which slowly amassed a following of devoted fans, climbing its way to being voted one of the top albums of the decade on MetalStorm.

For eight years, a follow-up masterpiece was in the making. The opus grew so furiously, the decision was ultimately made to split the work into two parts, culminating with the release of the first album, Bellum I.

Bellum I showcases the band's rare amalgam of authentic classical, European folk and black metal influences, alongside Aquilus's unique multi-instrumentation and compositional complexity.

Metal influences, ranging from early Metallica to the early works of SolefaldOpeth and Katatonia, combine with the classical romanticism of Rachmaninov and Chopin.

Bellum I also continues Aquilus's signature blend of acoustic elements, with an assortment of acoustic guitars and pianos to violins, mandolas, fipple flutes, balalaika, gusli and bowed psaltery, recalling the aura and dexterity of emotive film composers Bernard Herrmann and Thomas Newman.

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Aquilus's music is composed and produced by Horace Rosenqvist and recorded in collaboration with session musicians. The amount of detail poured into each note is immeasurable; years of dedication undertaken to produce the final product.

Bellum I is a testament to the beauty and chaos of creation.

TLTSOL now return to the fold in 2022 with a career defining self-titled album. Straddling the Nu Metal, Rock, Death Metal and Downtempo genres in equal measure, TLTSOL have created a magnum opus of a record that will appeal equally to fans of Korn & Slipknot as much as it will to fans of Alice in Chains or Pantera.

The band comment on the album: "The pinnacle of malevolence, crushing riffs, and unbound lyricism that listeners have come to love and identify with us. Unique Leader is the perfect home to release this monster and we are more than excited to work with the brand to deliver this album to the masses.”

A Pennsylvania-bred deathcore band with a relentless, ferocious attack – and a name taken from a Smiths song – TLTSOL emerged in 2010 and have since become a major name on the underground rock scene with their emotionally intense and physically punishing sound.

Doom-pop quintet SOM unveil Billie Eilish cover
SOM-2021-by-Samia-Zaidi-1024x671.jpg

'Everything I Wanted' streaming now

Announce 2022 support tour with Katatonia

SOM – the doom-pop group made up of current and former members of Constants, Junius, and Caspian – have unveiled their cover of Billie Eilish’s 'Everything I Wanted' with an accompanying video.

“We’ve been obsessed with this song since it came out,” confesses the band. “It’s incredible how something so tender and gentle can also be a total gut-punch. It’s got these inescapable melodies that wash over you with both awe-inspiring sadness and a grounding feeling of hope. And that makes it a perfect fit with the SOM aesthetic — it’s intoxicating, powerful, and it really spans the emotional gamut. We want to really honour this song as best we can. It felt like all we could do to be closer to this song was to do a version of it that brings out the heaviness that we feel listening to the original.”

Watch SOM's 'Everything I Wanted' cover here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFgC9yoNRes

SOM’s Billie Eilish cover follows their Awake EP, released earlier this year, which combined two exclusive originals with remixes by collaborators Holy Fawn, Hisself (Johnny Dang of O’Brother), U Dye (Marshall Gallagher of Teenage Wrist), and Giuseppe Capolupo (The Devil Wears Prada). SOM’s Awake EP is a doom-pop triumph. Its concise compositions balance the gritty riffs of Deftones with airy, Tame Impala-esque vocal lines, just as primed for rock radio success as they are for shoegaze-loving connoisseurs.

SOM will support Katatonia and Sólstafir on their Twilight Burials tour through the UK and Europe. The dates run from January 21st 2022 through February 26th 2022. Full dates below:

Katatonia-Solstafir-Final-3.jpeg

SOM was founded by Duncan Rich, frontman and former Constants colleague Will Benoit, and Adai founder and now-Caspian drummer Justin Forrest. While touring in support of their debut full-length The Fall in 2019, the band added guitarists Mike Repasch-Nieves and Joel M. Reynolds, both formerly of Junius and Driftoff.

The tracks on Awake are part of SOM’s ongoing mission to “leave this place better than we found it.” Despite being recorded in quarantine, the EP was mixed by Benoit at his own Radar Studio in Connecticut – New England’s first solar-powered recording facility. While many musicians lumbered in inactivity, SOM used the darkness of recent times to create and heal. Awake’s bliss is an insight not only into the kind of harmony the quintet seeks to cultivate in all facets of life, but also the exciting second full-length, slated for an early 2022 release on Pelagic Records.

“SOM specialise in a gauzy, feedback-soaked sound. It’s not far flung from the output of high-volume shoegazers such as Deftones or Hum.” – Revolver

“SOM play the kind of somber, glimmering music that exudes a heavy fog of emotion and introspection around it.” – Kerrang!
