VRSTY release lyric video for new single 'Finesse' (Feat. Notions)

New album Welcome Home out 19th November 2021 via Spinefarm Records

New York City-based collective VRSTY (pronounced "Varsity") - Joey Varela [vocals], Javy Dorrejo [bass], Chris Cody [drums], and Paul Gregory [guitar] - have released a lyric video for their confident, rowdy new single 'Finesse'.

The track, which features rap/metal artist Notions, is taken from the band's new album Welcome Home, due for release on 19th November 2021 via Spinefarm Records.

"'Finesse' was a fun process," Varela recalls of the genesis and back story of the track. "I think I wrote this song about two years ago and re-wrote it about three more times before scrapping it. Something always brought me back to it, though, and it was worth it, since it ended up making the record."

He opens up about the track's deeper meaning, saying: "The song itself is about finding all of my heartaches and faults to be a blessing in disguise. Sure, everything hurts at the time, but it has all made me stronger. It has also made me a little crazier. Crazy is good, though."

Varela, an admitted fan of Notions, connected with the artist online and their collaboration was born. "Over the years, I watched him develop into this incredible artist and I always told myself, 'The day I get to do a full-length, he ABSOLUTELY needs to be on it'. And here we are. I clearly couldn't have chosen a better artist to feature on this song." Notions adds another layer of straight-up vibe to this hard-hitting, album-opening song.

Welcome Home is the band's debut full-length for Spinefarm Records and follows last year's breakthrough Cloud City EP, which has accumulated six million streams in less a year and yielded the head-turning singles 'Shameless' and 'Massive'. The latter was the most played on SiriusXM's Octane for two weeks in a row in late 2020. VRSTY have perfected their seamless and fearless cross-pollination of metallic grooves with R&B-influenced, after midnight vocal swagger on their new 14-track offering. VRSTY aren't just offering their own take on a genre; they have authored a fusion style that is entirely their own.

"Welcome Home is an incredibly personal album to me," Varela shares. "I know everybody says that, and hey, maybe they're not lying when they do. I sure as hell am not. It was definitely a task, at first, trying to figure out how to phrase or sing something without getting too personal. But somewhere along the way, I threw that idea out the window and decided to say exactly what I felt. You won't find me trying to sound cool or using any fancy wordplay. It's just me in my rawest form, saying exactly what I've felt or experienced over the years, which is what has made me who I am today. I think if anybody ever wants to get to know me, this record will give you everything you need to know. No secrets. Just me."

The new remix and previous single 'White Gold' mark a new era for the atmospheric, raucously anarchic El Moono. Following their 2019 single 'Thanks for Nothing' (Small Pond Records) and heavy touring around the UK and Europe with the likes of Black Peaks, Phoxjaw, Haggard Cat, Fangclub, and Press to MECO - El Moono are back with a vengeance. With influences of rock, hardcore, metal and grunge, the band's off-kilter and oftentimes mind-bending riffs, emotive songs and expressive lyricism combine to create a sound that’s difficult to pigeonhole.

'White Gold' and both versions of ‘Forced to Smile’ follow 'Thanks for Nothing', their self-released EP 'Tides' and standalone single 'Aura'. El Moono's captivating music have seen support from Kerrang! Radio’s Alex Baker, who has played every single to date on his show, as well as Amazing Radio and more.

Having recently supported Haggard Cat and performing at Burn it Down and Attitude Festival, and with their first hometown show in two years lined up for 2021, there’s no stopping this promising quartet.

Live dates:

31.10.2021 – Brighton, The Prince Albert (headline)

Instrumental prog group Outrun the Sunlight reveal new single 'Emerald Joy'

A Vast Field of Silence LP out 12th November

Chicago instrumental progressive quintet Outrun the Sunlight have unveiled their fantastic new single 'Emerald Joy', from their forthcoming new album A Vast Field of Silence, to be released 12th November.

Watch the video for 'Emerald Joy' here: https://youtu.be/BQ0EgFwUwes

'Emerald Joy' is the second track released from A Vast Field of Silence, following 'Awareness'.
Watch 'Awareness' here: https://youtu.be/ELYDotqLWDY

Of the new track guitarist Austin Peters comments: "'Emerald Joy' might be my favorite track from this new album. It's a song that's been with me for nearly 4 years, and was written during a really difficult time in my life. Just hearing this song lifts my spirits, and to me, it encompasses everything I love about progressive music. I named it after the color of the energy used in Ayurvedic medicine to signify the heart. In other words, 'Heart Joy' is how I feel when I listen to this track."

A Vast Field of Silence pre-orders:

Physical pre-order: https://www.athousandarms.com/collections/outrunthesunlight
Digital pre-order: https://outrunthesunlight.bandcamp.com/album/a-vast-field-of-silence

A Vast Field of Silence is the Chicagoans fourth LP, and four years in the making. The thematic record is a wordless concept album, based around a recurring melody appearing throughout. Most clearly stated in the album opener ‘Awareness’, the beautiful theme is typical of Outrun the Sunlight, an unusually cinematic and compositionally-heavy group in the genre.

Although anchored to the theme, A Vast Field of Silence is a satisfyingly surprising record, one that is a journey of a listen. Going beyond simply instrumental progressive, the band incorporate elements of acoustic ambient, jazz, post-rock, and metal. Bearing comparisons to Cloudkicker, The Contortionist, and Russian Circles, A Vast Field of Silence is Outrun the Sunlight at their best.

The band have a huge depth and range of musical talent at their disposal: Kyle Kunkler (keys) is a professional dance piano accompanist (ballet, modern, and more) and composer, and custom-coded a majority of the synths heard on the album. Luke Angle (drummer) is a professional music instructor, from big-band jazz to math rock via country & western. Phil Kalas (bass) is also a composer, under the name Asleep In The Stars, while guitarists, Cody McCarty and Austin Peters formed the group in 2011, and have known each other since playing together in high school bands from 2008. Austin, aside from Outrun the Sunlight, has also practiced embodiment meditation since 2017, and is the founder of “Simple Being”, which produces recorded meditations with voice and ambient music.

With forming in 2011, the band released both Architecture of the Cosmos EP and debut LP The Return of Inertia in the same year. Signing with Rogue Records America in 2012, the duo re-released The Return of Inertia (Vocalist Version) which included vocalists from around the world, plus two bonus tracks. In 2014, the addition of drummer, Pedro Villegas, and bassist, Connor Grant, brought the band to the stage, and they released their second album Terrapin also on Rogue Records. In August 2015, following the release of Live at Electrical Audio EP, the group toured in the east coast United States with Native Construct (Metal Blade Records) and Wings Denied.

In 2016 Outrun the Sunlight went on to perform on Chicago internet music series, Audiotree, releasing the live album Outrun the Sunlight on Audiotree Live. They then released Red Bird independently in 2017, their third LP, the first instance that the group performed together on an album. A band not content to rest, they then released a live in-studio record, Emerge, in January 2021.

With the Covid-19 interruption and introduction of a new drummer, Outrun the Sunlight’s newest LP has eventually been four years in the making, from first conception ‘til release – but well worth the long wait.

Impending Doom release new single / video and announce new EP

'Satanic Panic' streaming now via MNRK Heavy

Hellbent EP available January 12th 2022

Californian death metallers, Impending Doom, have announced their upcoming EP alongside the new single / video for 'Satanic Panic'. Hellbent will be released 12th January 2022 via MNRK Heavy.

Check out the new single and video for 'Satanic Panic' here: [Awaiting single link]

Pre-order the Hellbent EP here: https://hellbent-doom.com/

On the new single, vocalist Brook Reeves comments: "'Satanic Panic' is a song about the occult and ritual abuse reaching the elite. But in the end, God will have the final judgement."

Recorded with engineer Joseph Calleriro at Dungeon by the Sea in Los Angeles and mixed by longtime band collaborator Will Putney (Knocked Loose, The Ghost Inside, Thy Art Is Murder), Hellbent is a blistering five-song blast of readily identifiable Impending Doom brutality, with just enough of a modern flourish. As reliable as ever, the band endeavour to bring woe with crushing heaviness, sick death metal and grindcore riffage, impossible guttural growls, and steadfast reverence for God. The five-track EP includes punishingly incisive entries into the band's esteemed canon, which stretches back to their 2005 demo.

The new EP arrives adorned with an arresting cover courtesy of Jim Pavelec, an illustrator specialising in the occult, sci-fi, horror, and fantasy, including pieces for classic RPG Dungeons & Dragons. Bassist David Sittig explains: "We've never done an EP before this, and we spent a lot of time writing the music on Hellbent. We don't traditionally have many surprises with the art, but we wanted to try something different. We've used the same couple of guys to create art for us, but Jim had created this piece already and we loved it so much we decided to reach out to him."

Hellbent Tracklisting:

1. Satanic Panic
2. New World Horror
3. Culture Of Death
4. Hellbent
5. I Must End

The Sin and Doom of Godless Men, Impending Doom's blissfully devastating 2005 demo, was shocking in its urgent immediacy and its unashamed outspokenness. But that demo was merely a step towards the total devastation that was their 2007 debut album, Nailed. Dead. Risen., which shook the proverbial Earth with its uncompromising vision of what they had transfigured with elements of death metal, grind, and hardcore.

The series of increasingly diverse and intense releases that followed never compromised, and were always challenging and pushing the limits of the genre. With the likes of The Serpent Servant (2009), There Will Be Violence (2010), Baptized In Filth (2012), Death Will Reign (2013), and the back-to-basics bludgeoning of The Sin and Doom, Vol. II (2018), each appealed to the faithful and faithless alike. Combining crushing riffs and an unashamed point of view, each of their half dozen albums demonstrate the power of outspoken deathcore devastation.

Belgian shoegazers Slow Crush reveal new single 'Lull'

Hush LP due 22nd October via Church Road Records

Celebrated Belgian shoegaze quartet Slow Crush have streamed their beautiful new single/video 'Lull', which comes ahead of the group's stellar forthcoming album Hush, released this week, 22nd October via Church Road Records.

Watch 'Lull' here: https://youtu.be/Ob0ydlL6OCk
Stream: https://songwhip.com/slow-crush/lull2021

Vocalist Isa Holliday comments:

"If you listen closely during the intro, you can hear the rain hitting the studio's tall glass ceilings - a minute detail that captures the atmosphere of the track perfectly. We entrusted our talented friend, Bobby Pook at Sumo Crucial Productions, to create the video. With minimal instructions, he produced a beautiful visual representation conveying the song's mood - the yearning for togetherness and affection to contend the almost apocalyptic sense of solitude. A mood that we have perhaps all been confronted with at some point over the last two years.

"The video follows the protagonist waking up, anxiously chasing down the streets in search to intercept his sense of foreboding," Isa continues. "In comparison to the previous two singles, 'Lull' takes the listener on a more vulnerable emotional journey."

The result of songs written between tours, with unexpected downtime in the chaos of a pandemic, Hush showcases recurring Slow Crush themes, first demonstrated on their debut LP Aurora (2018). Slow Crush fully flex their creative muscles with another truly impressive sonic display on Hush - wistful longing and tranquil bearing contrasting beautifully with cascading echoes of glorious noise.

Some of the band’s darkest and yet most hope-filled music to date –Hushthis is their proverbial calm before the storm. Radiating warmth through a haze of abrasive layered guitars and the beautiful soul of Isa Holliday’s vocals,Hushsurpasses Slow Crush’s highly-acclaimed debut albumAurorain both songwriting and musicianship.

Following the acclaim of Aurora (now on its fourth vinyl pressing), Slow Crush toured nonstop for eighteen months, with the likes of Pelican, Torche, Soft Kill, Gouge Away and playing festivals like Roadburn, Arctangent, 2000Trees, Groez Rock.

Like the rest of the world, Covid-19 severely impacted the band’s plans – but they turned it to their advantage. Cancelling two European tours and one last-minute US tour was a blessing in disguise, allowingSlow Crushto regroup and rethink in a turbulent period.

Musically and lyrically Hush takes a slightly darker path, touching on the events and issues of the past year. Hush was recorded mid-pandemic in January 2021 in Ghent, Belgium, in whirling rain and snow. As with Aurora, Hush has the intensity and guile to fully envelop the listener, allowing them to form their own narrations of the story the band weave throughout.

Slow Crushwill be touring the UK in support ofLoathe. Dates as follows:

10 Liverpool, Arts Club
11 Birmingham, Asylum

Greek underground legends Agnes Vein release new single and announce new LP

Agnes Vein, kings of the Greek underground, are proud to unveil their stunning new single 'Deathcall'.

The track is the first glimpse of the veteran band's new record, Deathcall, released 17th December via Venerate Industries.

After a 20 year career, Agnes Vein have found themselves at yet another crossroads.

The blackened doom trio, with a storied history behind them, are carrying the deep marks of 2020 as they look to release their huge new album Deathcall.

One could argue this is not the first time the seasoned band from Thessaloniki has come up against a tough situation. Forming in 2004 and releasing their …Of Chaos And Law EP the band have had a long line of shows, each leaving a scar on their process.

In 2010 Agnes Vein formed their partnership with Venerate Industries and released their Duality LP. Making a great impression on the Greek underground, the album manifested the influences of Bathory, Candlemass, Neurosis and Celtic Frost and was a landmark in the local genre.

Agnes Vein went on then to support Electric Wizard, Primordial and Rotting Christ, before stewing on their brilliantly dark Soulship LP, released 2013. The slow, heavy and bleak sentiment of the record however wore off on the whole band's existence and in the years that followed the struggles stacked up, leading to a change in line-up and a long, slow fermentation of their new record, Deathcall.

Appearances with Neurosis and Mantar left their mark too on Agnes Vein – both bands bearing some influence on the brilliantly dark, methodically heavy Deathcall. Elements too of Candlemass, Yob and younger bands like Conjurer can be heard – a brutal mix of doom, black and sludge metal. Agnes Vein’s standing in the Greek underground is a welcome reflection of the quality and diversity on display.

Folk-prog artist Dikajee releases new video 'Misery'
image_6483441.JPG

From debut LP Forget~Me~Nots out now

"sublime debut album" - Metal Hammer
"out of this world" - Prog

The hauntingly brilliant folk-prog artist Dikajee has revealed a new video for her track 'Misery', taken from her unique debut full-length album Forget~Me~Nots, out now.

Watch here: https://youtu.be/HjsJCAr6K5U

Purchase Forget~Me~Nots here: dikajee.com

The artist comments: "This song is some kind of an artistic statement about embracing the dark times just as any other time - this is also a part of our life and often the most inspiring for artists. Mental health disorders are becoming more and more talked about and that's really good. And I hear and read a lot about giving yourself time to live through hard times and feel what you feel. If you're sad - take your time to be sad. If you are angry - admit it and let it be. Anger is probably even more stigmatized than tears (especially for women I guess).

And this song is about how I do that. It's my recipe. Misery doesn't take away your dignity or ability to be happy in the future. Misery is just misery, everyone has some. And it will pass just like anything else."

Such an approach is truly typical of this brilliant artist, and an album recorded throughout Europe, and with a truly international cadre and calibre of musician. Recording and producing in Norway, Portugal, Germany, France, Latvia, Russia, Forget~Me~Nots features guest appearances from Faun’s Fiona Rüggeberg (bagpipes), Klone’s Guillaume Bernard (guitars), Erik Truffaz's Artis Orubs (drums) and Amber Foil’s João Filipe (guitars) among others.

The international, collaborative outlook pays dividends across a record that showcases the best of folk, minimalist electronic, neo-baroque, neo-classical and truly inventive progressive rock. Above all else shines through Dikajee’s voice, a once-in-a-generation talent that recalls the best of Bjork and Kate Bush. Musically, shades of Steven Wilson, Nightwish, and Gentle Giant shine through.

Across Forget~Me~Nots Dikajee’s gloriously imaginative ethos is heard again and again. Track Four, ‘River Rite’, is a self-described “pagan ritual” song, which plays on the dual parables of the energy of floral wreaths, and of the wiseman by the river. The closing track, ‘Something Mystique’ is an exploration of the state of loss, and involved the visiting of more than ten abandoned grand estates of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries.

An artist who has previously toured Germany and Switzerland, opened for Yann Tiersen, Recoil (Depeche Mode’s Alan Wilder), and Nils Petter Molvær; and placed in Prog Magazine’s Top Unsigned Bands, Dikajee will deservedly have a bright and illustrious future.

'The Holocene Termination' streaming now via Demonstealer Records

The Holocene Termination EP available 3rd December

Demonstealer, one of India's premiere death metal musicians, has revealed his new single / video 'The Holocene Termination'.

'The Holocene Termination' is the title track of his upcoming EP, released 3rd December via Demonstealer Records. The brilliantly brutal single features a stellar guest cast of Eugene Rybachenko of Fleshgod Apocalypse, Jeff Hughell of Six Feet Under, and Nick Padovani of Equipoise.

Sahil Makhija, better known as Demonstealer, has long been one of the pillars of the heavy metal scene in India. From being at the vanguard of a fledgling metal scene to becoming one of its most visible and respected proponents today, Demonstealer is integral to the growth of the Indian metal community.

In 2000, Demonstealer formed Demonic Resurrection, one of India’s best known and biggest metal bands. Over the last two decades the band has become one of the most recognizable faces of Indian metal, nationally and internationally. Also in 2000 he established India’s first recording studio dedicated solely to metal - a home to all of the country's top metal bands.

Five years later he launched Demonstealer Records – India’s first metal record label. The roster included the best in India’s burgeoning metal scene, and licensed internationally renowned acts, including Behemoth and Dimmu Borgir. Demonstealer also founded and ran Resurrection Festival, alongside Demonic Resurrection bassist Husain Bandukwala. For years it was India’s only dedicated extreme metal festival. Needless to say, Demonstealer’s impact on the national scene cannot be overstated.

Aside from the success of Demonic Resurrection (5 studio albums, Metal Hammer Golden God award, multiple tours and festivals across UK and Europe), Demonstealer’s solo career is notable. From his debut album And Chaos Will Reign (2008) to 2021’s The Holocene Termination, Sahil has been blazing a thunderous solo trail.

Occasionally however, even a tireless musician like Demonstealer must call in outside forces. The guest appearances on The Holocene Termination are highly impressive, including Eugene Ryabchenko (Fleshgod Apocalypse), Anton Zhikharev (Gorgasm), Simon Schilling (Marduk), Robin Stone (The Amenta, Norse), and Jeff Hughell (Six Feet Under).

The range of talent on display is undeniable – all contributing to a thrilling near-20 minute ride from a highly significant musician.

Irish alt/stoner trio The Last Vinci reveal new single 'Gallow'

Irish alt.stoner trio The Last Vinci are proud to release their new single 'Gallow'.

Watch: https://youtu.be/t41QVEpPdKc

The Last Vinci, from Cork, Ireland, are led by Alex Vinci. Despite the pandemic impacting all music-makers across the globe, The Last Vinci have been working nonstop since the beginning of 2020.

'Gallow' is the first glimpse of the band's new material, having entered the studio in April 2021 with Liverpool producer Tom Peters (Alpha Male Tea Party, Bicurious, God Alone). The track is an anthem born from open discussions with fans, having asked "what are you not doing because of fear?" - the song itself includes vocal samples of the responses sent in by fans, all serving to emphasise The Last Vinci's motto: "fear is the biggest lie".

The Last Vinci and Alex Vinci are well-known for their punishing low frequencies through a three amps set-up and their “give-all-you-have” energetic attitude, larger-then-life stage presence.

Their debut self-titled album was released in 2014, and swiftly followed by The Last Vinci - Live from the Studio, a full live performance recorded at Station Studios, Dublin. The albums were supported by an extensive tour around Ireland, Italy, the UK, Switzerland, and Eastern Europe.

The Last Vinci then released their 2019 EP The World, Enda Kenny, the Devil, the Vegans and all the Millennials shit on Narrow Door Records, again successfully touring across Europe. Aiming to immediately return to the studio, the band's plans were interrupted by the pandemic. Not content to rest, The Last Vinci ended up building The Narrow Studio, a space that became key to working on their new material throughout Covid-19.

Stay tuned for more information.
