New record Terra Phasma out 3rd December 2021

UK metal quartet Arkdown have released a video for their crushing new single 'Made Of Misery'. The track is the third single from the band's upcoming record Terra Phasma, due for release on 3rd December 2021.

The band comment:

"I promised someone a long time ago that I'd write a song called 'Misery', because they said I looked miserable every time they saw me. I've suffered with depression for quite a while, and tend to deal with it by shutting myself off from people. I've often felt like I deserve to be unhappy and, even though I don't think anyone deserves to be sad or suffer with mental health issues, my head tells me I'm different and that maybe I don't deserve what I've got. I don’t have the answer to dealing with that yet but I know that, like me, many people out there who feel the same way, will often turn to music as a safe place. Maybe hearing me talk about it in 'Made of Misery' and relating to it is a step towards breaking out of it."

Arkdown recently announced their hometown Terra Phasma release show, set to take place on 3rd December at Corporation in Sheffield. The show is Arkdown's first since March 2020 and marks vocalist Joe Hallam's debut performance with the band.

Tickets are on sale here: https://arkdownmusic.com/products/terra-phasma-release-show

Arkdown are a four-piece metal band from Sheffield, UK. Formed in late 2015, the quartet draw heavily on modern metalcore and death metal influences, framed by their signature melodic, yet heavy, riff-based style.

Self-releasing their single 'In Torment' and their debut EP The Calling whilst touring the length of UK, Arkdown have supported a glut of heavy hitters in the scene, from Fit For An Autopsy and Oceans Ate Alaska, to Kingdom of Giants and A Night in Texas.

With the release of their second standalone single 'Miasmic', Arkdown's sound matured and extended their reach, as they broke out of the UK to play shows in mainland Europe - before COVID-19 put on the brakes. Arkdown spent that time refining their line-up and sound before working on their upcoming record, Terra Phasma.

"'Bend and Break' is about relapsing into a depressed mood and realising that trauma will never leave you alone. What becomes clear in the song is the help from friends, that sufferers rely on so much when depression takes over."

Their rise continued in 2019, where they performed at Impericon Festival and signed to Long Branch Records. Later that year, the five-piece released their album Porcelain, with rave reviews across the globe which accelerated the band into international focus. They followed with a well-received cover of The Weeknd's 'Blinding Lights', which spread their name even further. Life Of Agony bassist and bestselling Beauty of Horror creator Alan Robert launches whitelist for ‘Monster Chompers’ NFT Collection

Rockstar-turned-bestselling-artist Alan Robert, best known for being the bassist and primary songwriter in Life of Agony, and for creating “The World’s Creepiest Adult Coloring Book” The Beauty of Horror, has launched his very first NFT collection called Monster Chompers. The presales whitelist kicked off on Halloween, allowing fans to reserve their spots to mint their own Monster Chompers to the Ethereum blockchain. Robert partnered with top software agency Way Too Digital to develop the limited, one-of-a-kind, digital collectibles. Way Too Digital is the group behind several high-profile projects for Gary Vee, NTWRK and Cardano.

Check out Monster Chompers NFTs at https://monsterchompers.com

See the video: https://vimeo.com/622763238

Each non-fungible token has a varying set of character traits that determines its rarity. First off, there are multiple monster species available, such as vampires, werewolves, mummies, zombies, and more. Secondly, each character is depicted chowing down on a bizarre selection of meals from the All-Nite Eatery Menu. Delicacies include Spaghetti & Eyeballs, Rancid Ratatouille, and Spicy Shrunken Heads Skewers, to name a few. All elements were hand drawn by Robert and randomly generated using algorithms to produce 10,000 unique combinations.

“This NFT collection has been an absolute blast to work on. Monster Chompers takes two of my favorite things: horror and comedy, and throws them in the blender together to produce something hilarious, twisted and completely unique,” said Alan Robert. “Working closely with the fantastic team at Way Too Digital has been an awesome and eye-opening experience, too. I’ve learned so much about how NFTs are revolutionizing the digital art space. It’s such an exciting time and now that we’ve launched the whitelist, we’re one step closer to unleashing Monster Chompers on the world. This collection is just the beginning for the brand, too. There are already plans in the works to expand the IP into other media as well.”

“This is by far our most exciting and fun generative NFT avatar project,” said Way Too Digital’s Founder & CEO Agustin Rodriquez. “It has been an amazing experience working with an artist of Alan’s stature, and every time we receive new materials from him, it makes us tickle and smile. He not only manages to create a strong emotional connection between his artwork and the community, but also with people like us who are new to the horror genre. We’re also very happy that Monster Chompers will be the first project launching on our new white-label NFT platform with a built-in secondary market. That way, it keeps the whole user experience on-brand, similar to how NBA Top Shop did with sports.”

Instrumental prog group Outrun the Sunlight stream new album ahead of release

A Vast Field of Silence LP out 12th November

Chicago instrumental progressive quintet Outrun the Sunlight have streamed their stunning new album A Vast Field of Silence a day early.

Released 12th November, you can listen to the album in its entirety here: https://youtu.be/gvQa3IEjAEQ

Guitarist Austin Peters comments: "This record has been four years in the making and we are so excited to finally share it. These songs have followed me through a very transformative period of my life. They've helped reveal fears around my instinct to create, and my joy in fulfilling that creation. I feel grateful for the people, especially the past and present members of this band, who have walked down parts of that road alongside me. Now it's something I feel ready to let go of and give away. As always, this album is best listened to in a quiet space on your best set of headphones."

A Vast Field of Silence pre-orders:

Physical pre-order: https://www.athousandarms.com/collections/outrunthesunlight
Digital pre-order: https://outrunthesunlight.bandcamp.com/album/a-vast-field-of-silence

A Vast Field of Silence is the Chicagoans fourth LP, and four years in the making. The thematic record is a wordless concept album, based around a recurring melody appearing throughout. Most clearly stated in the album opener ‘Awareness’, the beautiful theme is typical of Outrun the Sunlight, an unusually cinematic and compositionally-heavy group in the genre.

Although anchored to the theme, A Vast Field of Silence is a satisfyingly surprising record, one that is a journey of a listen. Going beyond simply instrumental progressive, the band incorporate elements of acoustic ambient, jazz, post-rock, and metal. Bearing comparisons to Cloudkicker, The Contortionist, and Russian Circles, A Vast Field of Silence is Outrun the Sunlight at their best.

The band have a huge depth and range of musical talent at their disposal: Kyle Kunkler (keys) is a professional dance piano accompanist (ballet, modern, and more) and composer, and custom-coded a majority of the synths heard on the album. Luke Angle (drummer) is a professional music instructor, from big-band jazz to math rock via country & western. Phil Kalas (bass) is also a composer, under the name Asleep In The Stars, while guitarists, Cody McCarty and Austin Peters formed the group in 2011, and have known each other since playing together in high school bands from 2008. Austin, aside from Outrun the Sunlight, has also practiced embodiment meditation since 2017, and is the founder of “Simple Being”, which produces recorded meditations with voice and ambient music.

With forming in 2011, the band released both Architecture of the Cosmos EP and debut LP The Return of Inertia in the same year. Signing with Rogue Records America in 2012, the duo re-released The Return of Inertia (Vocalist Version) which included vocalists from around the world, plus two bonus tracks. In 2014, the addition of drummer, Pedro Villegas, and bassist, Connor Grant, brought the band to the stage, and they released their second album Terrapin also on Rogue Records. In August 2015, following the release of Live at Electrical Audio EP, the group toured in the east coast United States with Native Construct (Metal Blade Records) and Wings Denied.

In 2016 Outrun the Sunlight went on to perform on Chicago internet music series, Audiotree, releasing the live album Outrun the Sunlight on Audiotree Live. They then released Red Bird independently in 2017, their third LP, the first instance that the group performed together on an album. A band not content to rest, they then released a live in-studio record, Emerge, in January 2021.

With the Covid-19 interruption and introduction of a new drummer, Outrun the Sunlight’s newest LP has eventually been four years in the making, from first conception ‘til release – but well worth the long wait.

Outrun the Sunlight are:

Austin Peters - Guitar
Cody McCarty - Guitar
Phil Kalas - Bass
Kyle Kunkler - Synth + Keys
Luke Angle - Drums

Track listing:

1. Awareness
2. Emerald Joy

Sahil Makhija, better known as Demonstealer, has long been one of the pillars of the heavy metal scene in India. From being at the vanguard of a fledgling metal scene to becoming one of its most visible and respected proponents today, Demonstealer is integral to the growth of the Indian metal community.

In 2000, Demonstealer formed Demonic Resurrection, one of India’s best known and biggest metal bands. Over the last two decades the band has become one of the most recognizable faces of Indian metal, nationally and internationally. Also in 2000 he established India’s first recording studio dedicated solely to metal - a home to all of the country's top metal bands.

Five years later he launched Demonstealer Records – India’s first metal record label. The roster included the best in India’s burgeoning metal scene, and licensed internationally renowned acts, including Behemoth and Dimmu Borgir. Demonstealer also founded and ran Resurrection Festival, alongside Demonic Resurrection bassist Husain Bandukwala. For years it was India’s only dedicated extreme metal festival. Needless to say, Demonstealer’s impact on the national scene cannot be overstated.

Aside from the success of Demonic Resurrection (5 studio albums, Metal Hammer Golden God award, multiple tours and festivals across UK and Europe), Demonstealer’s solo career is notable. From his debut album And Chaos Will Reign (2008) to 2021’s The Holocene Termination, Sahil has been blazing a thunderous solo trail.

Occasionally however, even a tireless musician like Demonstealer must call in outside forces. The guest appearances on The Holocene Termination are highly impressive, including Eugene Ryabchenko (Fleshgod Apocalypse), Anton Zhikharev (Gorgasm), Simon Schilling (Marduk), Robin Stone (The Amenta, Norse), and Jeff Hughell (Six Feet Under).

The range of talent on display is undeniable – all contributing to a thrilling near-20 minute ride from a highly significant musician.

Instrumental psych/stoner trio Kanaan release new video

'Return to the Tundrasphere' streaming now

New album Earthbound released 12th November via Jansen Records

Instrumental stoner psych trio Kanaan have revealed their new video 'Return to the Tundrasphere', from their brilliant new LP Earthbound, released 12th November via Jansen Records.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/S9BrsNG-yJo

Pre-order Earthbound here: https://kanaanband.bandcamp.com/

The third video in Kanaan's live in Amper Tone Studio series, it's another glimpse into the band's heady performance process.

Emerging from an ocean of fuzz like a Kyuss that went to jazz school, power trio Kanaan return with their fourth studio album in as many years.

Earthbound will be released 12th November via Jansen Records – a change in direction for the still-young group. Where Kanaan’s former albums have been jazzy and psychedelic explorations, with forays into kraut and free improvisation, the new album Earthbound comes at you heavier than a ton of bricks. The heavier Kanaan bear elements of the best of stoner rock, psych and sludge.

Inspired by bands such as Colour Haze, Hawkwind, Elder, Motorpsycho and Acid Mothers Temple, Earthbound serves up plenty of surprising twists and turns, beautiful and mellow passages and masterful musicianship. Although never flashy, the whole album is a showcase of the three wildly talented musicians as they plough their way through enormous riffs and thunderous grooves.

Searching to perfect their hybrid of heavy rock and psychedelic jazz influences, the band isolated themselves in Halden's Athletic Sound studios, working day and night to accomplish what became Earthbound, a quantum leap for their sound in terms of sheer heaviness and psychedelic extravaganza compared to their previous albums.

Ingvald André Vassbø - drums, percussion, speed Farfisa
Eskild Myrvoll - bass, synths, Mellotron, guitar

Extermination Dismemberment return with apocalyptic new single

'Protonemesis' single streaming now

Belarus-based brutal death metal band, Extermination Dismemberment, return with an apocalyptic new single 'Protonemesis', streaming now via Unique Leader Records.

Watch the video to 'Protonemesis' here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpprZ4OsLR8

Stream, watch and visit merch store here: Orcd.co/protonemesis

On the new single, the band comment:

"Fire and total extermination! 'Protonemesis' was created as a crushing composition that does not let you rest. The song consists of two acts. The first is slamming brutal death metal at it's finest. It takes no hostages and leaves no survivors. The second act depicts the end of humanity. Imagine fire consuming the world and millions burning to death. This is our first use of an orchestra that we feel compliments the epic, dark nature of the song's ending. This is both classic and new Extermination Dismemberment at the same time.

"'Protonemesis' is about people who become so used to being oppressed, that they start defending and maintaining the oppression, punishing those among them who dare to rebel. It's about those who embrace the order of tyranny and accept their role as slaves, enforcing subservice in order to keep their heads down and obey quietly. Humans are their own worst enemy, destined to eventually destroy themselves. Only the fire can save them. The fire that they will go into willingly, because they were ordered to do so. The fire that will burn them all."

Stay tuned for more in ‘22 from this SBDM powerhouse.

Karybdis stream explosive new video for single 'Maja Valles'

'Maja Valles' streaming now

London based melodeath band, Karybdis, have released an explosive music video for their brand new single 'Maja Valles', streaming now. The single is taken from their upcoming EP Order & Chaos due for release 3rd December.

Check out the video for 'Maja Valles' here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBHc9JDZAXs

On the new single, Karybdis state:

"'Maja Valles' is the first song we finished writing for Order & Chaos. Featuring machine gun rhythms, groovy riffs and soaring melodies, 'Maja Valles' encompasses these elements in a tight, high-velocity package. The song is named after the deep chasms on the surface of Mars and lyrically explores both the planet itself and it's personification, the Roman god of war, drawing parallels between the desolate landscapes of the planet and the internal struggles of a tyrant doomed to self-destruct. 'Maja Valles' serves as a baseline for what we're going for on Order & Chaos and aims to set great expectations for the deeper cuts on the EP."

With 3 critically acclaimed albums and over a decade of activity, Karybdis are one of London’s most enduring underground acts. Supporting the likes of The Black Dahlia Murder, Jinjer, Evile and Monuments, as well as festival appearances at Bloodstock and UK Tech Fest, the quartet have consistently demonstrated a passion for melodic death metal, paired with an aggressive live show.

Following the departure of lead guitarist Matthew Lowry, Karybdis recruited long-time collaborator and Norfolk noise-terrorist Dave Klussmann (Deities, Nervewrecker) and set about work on an ambitious new project.

Conceived as a concept EP based around Gustav Holst’s The Planets suite, Order and Chaos explores classical themes and melodies reimagined through a modern lens. Drummer/composer Mitch McGugan explains:

"We have always been fascinated by learning more about the cosmos. After watching The Planets in Concert with Brian Cox, a program that interspersed the famous collection of pieces by Gustav Holst with Brian Cox explaining how our understanding of the planets has changed in the last 100 years, it made me want to experiment with some of the motifs and see if they would work in a completely different genre of music. Karybdis have always used strings as part of our sound, but we really wanted to push the boat out and utilise not only a multitude of strings, but a choir and a brass section as well."

As guitar riffs began to blend with orchestral arrangements, it became clear that vocalist Rich O’Donnell would have to stretch himself to keep up:

"I’ve really tried to push myself on this EP and tried to explore some of the melodic undertones of my voice, while I’m still striving to be as heavy as possible there’s certain moments that required me to scale things back and think about how I can work with the choir and string parts to create something truly unique."

As the EP began to take shape it became clear that the best choice to helm production was new guitarist Dave Klussmann, who has previously worked with the likes of Oceano, Enterprise Earth, Chiasmata and Fraktions.

Dave states: "When approached me to join the band, I was equally excited by the prospect of producing as I was by writing and performing. This was a somewhat daunting task, due to the lineage of excellent guitarists and producers who have worked with the band in the past, but I feel I have achieved my goal of crafting a sound that encompasses the established vibes of previous material while adding new twists and progressing the sound of the band to new heights."
