Author & Punisher releases new video 'Incinerator' on album release day

San Diego-based outfit Author & Punisher has unveiled a video to 'Incinerator', taken from the new album, Krüller, out today (11th February) via Relapse Records.

Watch the video to 'Incinerator' here: https://youtu.be/VDPyZw31yZc

“’Incinerator’ is about outrage and urgency. The world is actually on fire,” offers Tristan Shone. “We are dealing with extreme conditions of a warming climate yet face brutal resistance by those who want to deflect our rage towards each other for their profit. Special thanks to director Ansel Wallenfang and DP James Rexroad who worked tirelessly to translate this rage into a visual adventure/nightmare.”

Shone, speaking about the album, adds:Krüller is an album that reflects on massive failures of our past/present and tries to imagine how we will descend into a post societal future where we support and conserve rather than destroy.”

Shone began work on Krüller after returning from his opening slot with Tool across the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand, before being cut short due to the March 2020 lockdowns. "Melody has been and is still a part of my sound," says Shone. "I've always bathed them in a lot of reverb, delay, and distortion, though. This time around, I was bothered by the wall of distortion I had created. I wanted a little more clarity. I wanted to refine the sound. I wanted to step back from my own show and analyze it a bit. I had all these competing distortions that I wanted to streamline. I like contrast and wanted the vocals to be immediately noticeable. There's something about mixing punishing drones and rumble with a mellow thing on top that I really like on Krüller.”

Three previous singles - Blacksmith, Drone Carrying Dread and Maiden Star - have showcased the new avenues Shone is taking his music. Consequence said 'Drone Carrying Dread' is “one of the prettiest A&P tracks to date, though no less sonically powerful,” Metal Injection noted the music’s “massive industrial percussion, floating synths and dreamy guitars,” and Revolver succinctly dubbed the collection “emotional machine music.”

On Krüller, Line Of Best Fit described it as "a raging and recoiling sonic purge" and Metal Hammer stated that it's "inventively bleak industrial metal".

Part of the Krüller revamp included refining the machines that have become synonymous with Author & Punisher. As a result, Shone is also launching a bespoke audio gear company called Drone Machines to coincide with the release of Krüller. The gear company launch follows nearly two decades of Author & Punisher honing in on his craft - meticulously inventing, machining, experimenting, and creating custom musical instruments for his incredible live performances and recordings.

Krüller is available now (https://orcd.co/authorandpunisher-kruller) with the 52-minute collection available on a selection of limited-edition vinyl variants, that tie into the colour palette of the album artwork, CD, cassette and digitally.

Author & Punisher have added several U.S. tour dates while simultaneously moving the forthcoming European headlining tour to Spring. The planned U.K. / EU dates have been cancelled. An overseas Fall trek with Perturbator and Health begins on 6th October.

Czech metallers Abbie Falls stream crushing new single

Abbie Falls’ crushing new single 'Parasite' has arrived - a ferocious beast with a heavy groove and savage breakdowns. This Czech Republic based band are going to quickly take the metal scene by storm, so get on board now and see what all the hype is about below.

Watch the video to 'Parasite' here: https://youtu.be/yC5iFxCAmVk

Abbie Falls state: “We’re so excited about ‘Parasite!' If you like breakdowns, fast riffs and raw energy bleeding from your speakers, you're gonna love this. It's melodic and modern fucking heavy music! Our upcoming EP (due late Spring) is all about that heaviness. The lyrical content is depicting an individual’s inner struggles with our self-destructive behaviors, toxic surroundings, substance abuse or any other negative influences.

"We can assure you, that this is our best music video yet and the songs hectic madness is greatly reflected by our performances throughout the clip. We had so much fun shooting it and every time we can go out together and play it's an opportunity to go totally mad and let the steam out. That's what's most enjoyable for us and this video perfectly captured our raw energy and strong live performance.

“This also marks our first official release with our new label, Seek and Strike. This is an amazing partnership with like-minded people who share the same goals as we do. We’re most looking forward to touring and playing live shows again. Sharing our love for music with our fans in person is what it’s all about because music exists to connect with people.

"We love extreme music and ‘Parasite’ is our tribute to all the genres we love and on the other hand, it's something completely new that we felt was missing in today's scene. We make music that we would love to go see live and mosh-pit to. It's our most sincere form of expressing our love to heavy music and paying back the community that shaped us.

Alt-rock quartet El Moono release new video 'Requiem'

Alternative quartet El Moono have released the startling new video for their track 'Requiem'.

'Requiem' is taken from the band's acclaimed new EP Temple Corrupted, out now via Lockjaw Records.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/jcjMS4PPr3Q

In the words of the band: "'Requiem' was a lockdown demo started by Jamie in the wake of hearing about a family member's health diagnosis, and when shared with the band, Zac started writing the lyrics. Inspired by Jamie's family and Zac's own experiences with loved ones' health struggles, the lyrics explore the fragility of life, and how we as humans turn to ritualistic superstitions to give answers to the things we can’t comprehend, like loss and death.

"This song is a real call to arms, and we've already seen an emotive reaction from our fans when we play it live. It's been a journey to see such a positive response from the song's dark origins."

Order Temple Corrupted here: https://elmoono.lnk.to/templecorrupted

The EP – a raucous mix of Deftones, Thrice, Black Peaks, and Phoxjaw – marks a new era for the band. It follows heavy pre-Covid touring around the UK and Europe with Black Peaks, Phoxjaw, Haggard Cat and Press to Meco, and fully showcases El Moono’s expansive tastes and approach.

Influences of rock, hardcore, post-hardcore, sludge, grunge and metal, the band's off-kilter and oftentimes mind-bending riffs, emotive songs and expressive lyricism combine to create a sound that’s difficult to pigeonhole.

A band unafraid to experiment sonically, El Moono tracked their EP in an ancient church, and notably features the piano used during Adele's Glastonbury performance.

Temple Corrupted is a concept EP, focused on depression and anxiety, and how societal corruption affects individual mental health. Listen out, for example, for track five, 'Miseria', which directly tackles the first-person experience of self-loathing. The song brings attention to the staggering statistics around suicide, and what might happen in future if our attitudes toward mental health remain the same.

'White Gold' tackles issues around institutionalised segregation of race and the injustices ethnic minorities face, fronting up to how the UK is an ‘ignorant empire’. Unafraid to confront serious events, their track 'Requiem' was inspired by watching a loved one waste away due to illness – a direct nod to guitarist Jamie’s father’s diagnosis of chronic cancer at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

A band fully committed to their message and to change, drummer Chris runs a clothing brand, ‘Over Your Head’ donating profit portions to mental health charities.

‘White Gold’ gained the attention of legendary artist Dan Hillier, who lent his stunning artwork for the cover. El Moono are the third band Dan has worked with after fellow Brighton-based heavyweights Royal Blood and Architects.

A reflection on the fragility of life, Temple Corrupted is a fearsome and impassioned EP from a highly promising group.

blacktoothed sign to Arising Empire & release video for new single 'You Never Know'

German rock quartet blacktoothed have announced their signing to Arising Empire. Celebrating new beginnings, most notably with their name change, blacktoothed have released a video for their brand new single 'You Never Know'.

Check out the video for 'You Never Know' here: https://youtu.be/yekjWATOh98

Stream/purchase 'You Never Know' here: https://blacktoothed.lnk.to/youneverknow

Produced by Annisokay guitarist Cristoph Wieczorek and Julian Breucker at Sawdust Recordings studio, 'You Never Know' is packed with rock-infused riffs, contrasted with both atmospheric synths and heavy guitar melodies.

“'You Never Know' kinda tells the headline story of the upcoming material. A story of self-reflection, the involvement of one's own actions and how they, when performed unconsciously, can contribute to the misery of others,” guitarist Mathilde explains.

The band comment on their signing:

"We are very happy to take our next big step in collaboration with the Arising Empire family and look forward with great anticipation!”

blacktoothed stand out from the crowd, combining an array of stylistic elements from a variety of genres. Earlier releases, such as Seeker, set the band up as promising newcomers, characterised by their unique combination of striking rock, filigree guitar work and catchy pop-hooks, with a hint of 80's inspiration.

Despite the inspiring and motivating times during their songwriting and recording process, blacktoothed long to be back on stage, as soon as the global pandemic allows. The band have previously performed at Impericon Festival and shared stages with Annisokay, Bad Omens, Hands Like Houses, Polaris, Thundermother, Acres and many more.

Matt Pike (High on Fire, Sleep) releases new video featuring Mastodon's Brent Hinds

From rewriting the hard rock rulebook with his Grammy award-winning trio High on Fire, to reverse engineering doom metal with his genre-defining trio Sleep, Matt Pike has channelled his natural talents and chiselled a steely path straight to the heart of modern-day metal’s molten core.

On 18th February, Pike will release his debut solo LP, Pike vs The Automaton, via MNRK Heavy.

Pre-orders are live at PikeVstheAutomaton.com

Today, 10th February, Pike releases a video for the new song 'Land' which he describes as, "totally different, like an old blues song". The track and clip each feature Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds.

Watch the video for 'Land' here: https://youtu.be/h-6yNmOo6SY

Of the single, Pike comments: "'Land' was written after I had just come home from a tour. It's like an old blues song. I was thinking of it as like a bunch of old dudes in a subway doing a doo-wop thing. It has the feel of a two-step like my Mom used to dance to, like Country Western. It’s totally about depression and leading a hard life. Later, I was playing the song for Brent Hinds from Mastodon who had come out to Portland to jam with me and he laid down this smokin’-ass Billy Gibbons kind of solo! I did one solo and then he did his solo and I’m like, “You’re a dick,” (laughs). The bass player from Brent’s other band West End Motel, Steve McPeeks, played some stand-up bass – both plucking and with a bow – and it really brought out this depth to the song. I’ve never written a song like that and recorded it and made it as cool as it is. It’s totally different."

Born out of the challenges brought on by a worldwide pandemic, birthed under hellish red-orange skies bred from rampaging west coast wildfires, and built amidst the yearlong political riots and rallies in Portland, OR, Pike’s solo debut, Pike vs The Automaton, is both a musical and emotional release.

The record was written by Pike with drummer Jon Reid, features contributions from a slew of family and friends, and was recorded with longtime conspirator Billy Anderson, the producer who brought the best out of Pike previously on touchstone titles such as Surrounded by Thieves and Sleep’s Holy Mountain.

“I was just going bonkers during the pandemic. It was like really, truly miserable. And then all the riots here in Portland and all the political sh*t. I was trapped in my garage, which was the only place I could go and jam and do anything,” confesses Pike. “I was trapped in there ‘cause I couldn’t go jam with High on Fire, I couldn’t do this, I couldn’t do that, no one could fly. I was going crazy. My friend Jon Reid, who was the original drummer for Lord Dying, had moved to Portland and was babysitting my dog, Crom, and he was drumming for my wife’s band, so he had his drums already set up at my place. I finally said, “Dude, do you want to come over and just start jamming? So, I just started this thing with my friend Jon. I was like, “Dude, f*ck it. Let’s start a side band and we’ll just demo this and act like we’re starting it as teenagers, you know?”

Pike vs The Automaton is advanced by the bizarrely titled track 'Alien Slut Mum'. When asked for comment on the clip, Pike cryptically replies, "Four friends enter the woods, for a getaway, little did they know they would never return! Dogmen, Sasquach, Reptilians, or alien slut mum?!?! Where have they gone??"

"Necessity is the mother of invention" is a well-known proverb that has proven itself true time and time again. When the need for something becomes imperative, you are forced to find ways of getting or achieving it. In this true story, the need for Pike was to create and play music with others at a time when that lifelong love was seemingly out of reach. Guest musicians on Pike vs The Automaton include Alyssa Maucere-Pike (Lord Dying / Grigax), Chad "Chief" Hartgrave, Brent Hinds (Mastodon), Steve McPeeks (West End Motel), Josh Greene (El Cerdo), Todd Burdette (Tragedy), and High on Fire's Jeff Matz, who lays down Turkish electric saz on the album's towering closing track 'Leaving the Wars of Woe'.

"The album title, Pike vs The Automaton, wasn’t an ego thing for me. Billy and Jon said, “Dude, you should use your name in this. This is your solo project.” I said, “I don’t want to do that”. The Automaton, in Greek mythology, is the big robot that’s the guardian of the Gods, basically. It’s a soulless, big machine named Talos. The big machine that’s working against mankind at this moment. In ‘Jason and the Argonauts’, Jason and the Argonauts have to battle this big machine guy that protects the island. Basically, what the album title is saying, metaphorically, is ‘Pike against the World.’”

“I made a psychedelic rock record that Sleep and High on Fire fans would like,” Pike continues when asked for a CliffsNotes description of Pike vs The Automaton. “And maybe if you’re not a Sleep or High on Fire fan, you might like it too. I definitely think it’s interesting; it has D-Beat punk, two-step. It’s got everything and it still works together, it doesn’t sound odd. It’s just an off-the-wall psychedelic rock record.”

About Matt Pike:

Matt Pike is an American musician known for his work as guitarist, vocalist and frontman for Grammy Award-winning metal band High on Fire, and guitarist and founding member of the influential doom metal trio Sleep. Deathcore heavyweights Crown Magnetar release first single/video from new EP

American modern deathcore juggernauts Crown Magnetar have announced their new EP, Alone In Death, due 25 March via Unique Leader Records.

Crown Magnetar commented: "Everyone will experience death. This song is about having to be a fake version of yourself. Forced to hide your emotions and continue crawling through the mud endlessly. People may think you are strong when confronted with suffering. But all you want to do is curl up and die."

With a compelling combination of tech, core and death elements, Crown Magnetar emerged in 2017 showcasing technical riffs, relentless blast beats and crushing yet dynamic vocals. Releasing The Prophet of Disgust EP in 2018, the band followed up with their critically acclaimed debut full-length entitled The Codex Of Flesh on 30th April, 2021 which they supported with a US tour alongside Lorna Shore

Of the new EP Crown Magnetar adds, "While as a band we’ve always been about incredibly fast, incredibly jarring deathcore with a lot of death metal influence, Alone In Death was written with speed and captivation in mind the whole time, on top of our go-to writing styles. At the same time, we’ve added an emphasis on emotional depth, making sure the riffs and beats were as memorable as they were extreme. Everyone goes through varying degrees of hardship, pain and isolation. Alone in Death reflects that both lyrically and emotionally."

Alone In Deathdemonstrates a band not f*cking around, showcasing a captivating display of precision, musicianship and relentless savagery across six blistering tracks, determined to claw their way to the very top of the deathcore pile.

Bodysnatcher announced to support Ingested UK tour

US deathcore titans Bodysnatcher have been announced as main support to Ingested on their UK tour in March.

Additional support comes from Acranius and Bound In Fear.

All previously purchased tickets for the UK shows will remain valid. Due to ongoing COVID restrictions and uncertainty the mainland European leg of the tour has been cancelled.

Dates are as follows:

18.03.22 UK Birmingham @ Asylum 2
19.03.22 UK Manchester @ Rebellion
20.03.22 UK Glasgow @ Audio
21.03.22 UK Newcastle @ Think Tank
22.03.22 UK Leeds @ The Key Club
23.03.22 UK Bristol @ The Exchange
24.03.22 UK Southampton @ The Joiners
25.03.22 UK London @ The Underworld

Bodysnatcher originated from Melbourne, Florida, located on Central Florida's East Coast. The band's original lineup consisted of members Alex Davison, Ben Bamford, Colton Whelan, and Kyle Medina. After undergoing early style and lineup changes, the group decided on the name Bodysnatcher, drawing their namesake's inspiration from notorious serial killer Ed Gein. The band released their debut single 'Soul Sucker' and began playing shows in 2014, quickly elevating their popularity and presence within Florida's deathcore scene.

Shortly after that, the band expanded their horizons and began touring nationally, showcasing their signature sound with other major mainstays within the genre. The band released their debut EP Abandonment and soon afterward were signed to label Modern Empire for their first full-length album, Death of Me in 2017.

A few months following the release of Death of Me, the band underwent another significant lineup change in Spring 2018, introducing a powerful and refined lineup that continues performing today. The band currently consists of Chris Whited, Kyle Shope, Kyle Carter, and Kyle Medina.

Chris Whited is a former member of another Florida band, King Conquer. Whited before his introduction to Bodysnatcher, he also collaborated with the fledgling groups' production efforts. This resulted in a seamless transition into the group's roster, as Chris remains a considerable asset to the band drawing from his touring history and industry experience.

Alongside Whited, came the groups' active bassist, Kyle Shope, former bassist of the band Float Face Down hailing from New Jersey. Before joining Bodysnatcher, Whited and Shope had experience working together, with their previous bands touring together multiple times.

Next came the groups' guitarist, Kyle Carter, formerly of groups Dealey Plaza and Beacons. Both groups were formed initially in Florida and performed alongside Bodysnatcher's original lineup on multiple occasions. This experience together would prove invaluable for Carter's assimilation into the groups' roster.

Lastly is Kyle Medina, the founding and current vocalist for Bodysnatcher. Medina attributes inspiration from statewide talent in Florida, including his fellow member's prior groups. Despite Bodysnatcher being his only music background, Kyle continues to provide harsh vocals, establishing a powerful presence that distinguishes the groups' signature sound.

With the new lineup finalised, the band began and continues to tour alongside other genre mainstays, including Lorna Shore, Ingested, Within Destruction, Chelsea Grin, Slaughter to Prevail, I Declare War, Sworn In, Enterprise Earth, I Am, and Signs of the Swarm.

The current lineup released their sophomore album, This Heavy Void, in 2019 and has grand ambitions for growth and collaboration within the industry. They continue to add to their catalogue and tour regularly, looking to make a legacy within the deathcore genre.

Irish noise-pop sixpiece THUMPER release new video

Irish noise-pop / alt-rock sextet THUMPER have released the lyric video to their new single 'Overbite'.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/ks7kY9RFSds

'Overbite' is the first glimpse of THUMPER's hotly-anticipated debut LP Delusions of Grandeur, set to be released 18th March - much to the delight of their rabid fans and enthusiastic tastemakers alike.

The band have teased the arrival of their triumphant new record with the new single 'Overbite'.

Pre-order Delusions of Grandeur here: https://orcd.co/j4a8pjo

Over the last two years the Dublin six-piece have been developing their sound and building an increasingly passionate fanbase. With a line up of two drummers and three guitarists, THUMPER’s maximalist wall of sound has long since set them apart in the booming Dublin music scene, and has them “punching like heavyweights alongside Fontaines DC and The Murder Capital” (Chris Hawkins, BBC Radio 6).

Delusions of Grandeur reveals THUMPER’s trademark penchant for saccharine melody and unabashed hooks, all the while set against their signature psych-drenched rumble. This harsh juxtaposition of sweet and caustic is where THUMPER thrive.

While Delusions of Grandeur features plenty of homages to classic alt rock such as Weezer, Pixies or The Dandy Warhols, it is also steeped in the influence of contemporaries such as Viagra Boys, King Gizzard, Shame and even Idles at their most psychedelic. At other points the sheer bombastic nature of its production recalls Irish psych alumni My Bloody Valentine on Loveless, or no wave veterans Sonic Youth on Daydream Nation.

Nowhere is this bombastic recording process more apparent than on the record's final act – the 20-minute Overbite Suite consisting of three songs recorded and performed as one long piece - this epic attempt at pushing past the mould of what a ‘song’ can be, in part justified by the album’s title.

Delusions of Grandeur however is not just a statement of musical intent. The LP's title refers to a struggle of self image, internal and external, and the existential maintenance that all of this implies. Frontman Leahy Furlong’s visceral and surreal lyrics obsess over the search for the ‘authentic self’ in a medium so steeped in pretentiousness.

This central tension mirrors and challenges the chaos of light and dark in the music itself, as the record continuously swings from light hearted to brutal, keeping the listener hooked the entire time.

While THUMPER remain 'Cult heroes' (Clash Magazine) in Ireland, the six-piece band are no stranger to international touring. They've already completed 3 extensive UK tours, a European tour, supported Fangclub, and appeared at festivals such as Groningen's Eurosonic Festival ('My highlight of Eurosonic. Epic! Such a massive, massive sound' Abbie McCarthy, BBC Radio 1), and Hamburg's Mucke Bei Dei Fische.

This volume of touring is no mean feat for a band who are only now releasing their first LP, but THUMPER are not resting on their laurels. 2022 will see THUMPER head to Reeperbahn Festival and Iceland Airwaves, amongst many others.

THUMPER are:

Oisin Leahy Furlong - Vocals, Guitar
Alan Dooley - Guitar, Backing Vocals
Alex Harvey - Guitar, Backing Vocals
Dav Campbell - Bass, Backing Vocals
Stevie D’Arcy - Drums
Benedict Warner-Clayton - Drums

About Bitter Branches
While it would be easy to rely on storied musical resumes and just relive past glories, Philadelphia’s Bitter Branches have taken a decidedly opposite approach. Consisting of members of Deadguy, No Escape, Calvary, Walleye, The Curse, Lighten Up! and more, the band step away from the sounds of the past to further explore the possibilities of punk and hardcore. Their songs speak to the thoughtful frustration gained from years of experiencing first-hand exactly how the world does and oftentimes doesn’t work; and from seeing both peers and heroes fade slowly into comfortable obscurity. Rather than hopeful daydreams, Bitter Branches offer a refreshingly honest observation of society, with scrapes and scars on full display.

Musically, the band has little interest in conforming to the sound of the moment, instead building upon skills honed over years of touring and performing to create something that is unquestionably greater than the sum of the individual parts. Mix in a year of cancelled shows replaced with focused practice and writing, and you have a whole new album before you can say coronavirus. Your Neighbors Are Failures will take you on a rollercoaster of crushing lows and effervescent highs - delivering a tour de force of thunderous songs and more thrills than a summer blockbuster.
