Hacktivist announce rescheduled UK headline tour for May 2022

New album Hyperdialect out now via UNFD

"vicious and vital" - Rock Sound

UK grime-metal quintet Hacktivist have announced rescheduled dates for their Hyperdialect headline tour. Originally confirmed for December 2021, the band had to postpone the dates when co-vocalist Jot Maxi suffered a fractured pelvis.

Rescheduled dates:

7th May - Manchester, The Bread Shed
8th May - Newcastle, The Cluny 2
10th May - Birmingham, The Flapper
11th May - Cardiff, Clwb Ifor Bach
12th May - London, Underworld

All original tickets remain valid for Manchester, Birmingham and London. Refunds are available for those with tickets to the original dates in Glasgow and Bristol. Original tickets for Glasgow and Bristol are non-transferable to the replacement shows in Newcastle and Cardiff.

Remaining tickets are on sale now, available here: https://www.hacktivist.uk.com/shows

Hacktivist released their eagerly anticipated album, Hyperdialect, in June 2021 via UNFD, described as their "most tightly wound and venomously intoxicating work to date" by Kerrang!, whilst Rock Sound named it "vicious and vital" and Metal Hammer declared the title track "bursts with urgency and flexes the band's genre-fluid muscle." Hacktivist's singles were also championed by BBC Radio 1's Jack Saunders and Daniel P. Carter, Kerrang! Radio and more.

Question everything. Consider your sources. Be wary of ulterior motives, insidious media narratives and even your own unconscious bias. Trust sparingly and try to make smart, informed choices. As the world slides further into ruin at the behest of old, rich white men ruling with catastrophic, zero-sum thinking, it’s more important than ever to be vigilant and fight back against the forces that be who seem hell-bent on creating a dystopian future for us all.

Luckily, Hacktivist are back to help cut through the noise and bullshit, tooled-up and ready to attack with renewed vigour and reinforced ranks; with Jot Maxi and J. Hurley now sharing the vocal and lyrical load, drummer Rich Hawking and bassist Josh Gurner bringing the beats and rhythms, and guitarist and production don James Hewitt fleshing out the group’s genre-fluid muscle. Hewitt played a very active role in Hacktivist's writing and recording process, bringing a new and compelling dynamic to the table.

In 2016, when Hacktivist initially set sights on their enemies with debut album Outside The Box, the world wasn’t fully equipped to heed their warnings and pay attention to its timely rallying cries. They return into a very different one, however – a world that’s sadly now all-too-finely-attuned to the horrors they first forecasted four years ago. In the wake of a global pandemic that has sharpened collective senses and exposed the systematic flaws across society, these should be times primed and ready for the truth-bombs that Hacktivist are about to drop. But recent hardships only amplify the band’s messages – these dispatches from the edge were written way before a virus brought humanity to its knees.

If all of that sounds grim and miserable, fear not, because Hacktivist aren’t here for unhelpful told-you-so's or sensationalist scaremongering. What use would holding a mirror up to all of this ugliness be if there weren’t some lessons to learned from the reflection, or at least to offer even the faintest glimmers of hope? "It’s becoming clear that we are on the brink of some type of revolution," says Jot Maxi, with no small dose of conviction or optimism. "Hacktivist are here to bring truth and positivity – the silver lining of a society clouded in poisonous fear. Hacktivist also represents a voice that isn’t afraid of saying what needs to be said. We’re already living in the future. We have the choice to either be shaped by it or to stand up and shape it ourselves. Which path will you take?”

It was with those battle lines clearly drawn and ambitions duly set that Hacktivist entered into the creation of Hyperdialect. Starting almost two years ago and developing on the acerbic sonic filth introduced by 2019 singles 'Reprogram' and 'Dogs Of War', the five-piece felt fired up by their new working dynamic and the collective process involved, with each member actively encouraged to contribute ideas until the best outcome was reached. Unusually, for such a group of bloody-minded insurrectionists, this democratic approach worked wonders – a testament to how much they were all on the same page on these 12 tracks. Aside from guest spots from rapper Kid Bookie on the monstrous Armoured Core and Betraying The MartyrsAaron Matts lending his vocal talents to the title-track, this was all Hacktivist: no filter, no frills, and no holding back.

Swiss progressive death metal quintet Kassogtha reveal new single, 'Drown'

Credit: David D'Agostini

FFO: Arch Enemy, Lamb of God, Gojira

First glimpse of new album, rEolve, released Autumn 2022

Swiss progressive death metallers Kassogtha have revealed their epic new single 'Drown'. 'Drown' is the first in a series of new songs from the band's forthcoming new album rEvolve, to be released in Autumn 2022. More news shortly.

Stream 'Drown' here: https://found.ee/kassogtha-drown

And watch the video here: https://youtu.be/wAB8nFwH68U

Kassogtha are led by vocalist-lyricist Stephany, whose incredible command of growled and clean vocals help mark the band as future Swiss heavy music stars. A concept album, rEolve tells the story of an endless self-destructive cycle of fear, anxiety, and jealousy. In a world that normalises negativity, we have forgotten how to be happy — and following a pandemic-enforced long, hard look at humanity and society, this is Stephany’s journey of dealing with these emotions. This album is a perfectly timed release valve for two years of isolation, anxiety and grief — a furious expression of frustration at missing the things we love that help us get through difficult times.

Kassogtha band place authenticity and sincerity above smoke and mirrors: a genuine metal band for true metal fans, that takes the genre further without abandoning its core ingredients. From Pink Floyd to Gojira via way of The Agonist and Arch Enemy, Kassogtha’s no-nonsense brand of groovy progressive death metal combines a variety of influences to create a steamrolling fusion of irresistible riffs, neck-breaking drums and a vocal range covering devastating growls and ethereal melodies.

Stephany comments on 'Drown''s meaning and background:

"’Drown’ is about a tragic moment of acceptance, when you choose to abandon yourself to the most comforting suffering because it is, at least, a world you’ve created for yourself in response to the one you never asked to live in.

"This song is a transition between the Kassogtha’s past and future, with Mortimer’s signature groovy riffs sprinkled with the prog influences the band holds dear today. It’s a genuine evolution in terms of composition, arrangements and performance.

"Trapped in a remote house in the Swiss mountains, surrounded by snow, with nowhere to go: that’s the atmosphere in which the lyrics and the first demo were recorded, which perfectly matched the mood of the place.

"Strongly influenced by Tool, the song was composed in part after watching Danny Carey's famous drum playthrough of the track 'Pneuma'. The break was built around polyrhythms that were later extended to the whole song.

"The special sound of the introduction tapping was created in the studio in collaboration with David Castillo."

On rEvolve, produced at Stockholm’s legendary Fascination Street Studios with David Castillo (Carcass, Opeth, Leprous), Linus Corneliusson (Ihsahn, Amorphis) and Tony Lindgren (Carcass, Opeth, Katatonia), Kassogtha showcase old school riffs and progressive inspiration, savage grooves and blast beats, creativity and speed, and pure, honest dedication to their craft.

rEolve will be released on Klang Machine Records, the newly-formed heavy music label co-founded by Swiss metal wizard Merlin Sutter (Cellar Darling, ex-Eluveitie).

Prog trio The Hirsch Effekt announce socially distanced concept EP

SOLITAER out 26th August via Long Branch Records

UK dates at UK Tech-Fest and Arctangent announced

German progressive metal trio The Hirsch Effekt have announced their new EP SOLITAER, out 26th August via Long Branch Records.

Watch the lyric video to 'NARES' taken from the EP here: https://youtu.be/R0MduZA9Hh0

The social distancing restrictions of the Corona era prompted The Hirsch Effekt to take a radical step: what if you not only recorded by yourself for the next release, but also wrote the songs completely alone? One song per band member. And so came about the concept of SOLITAER, which means "living individually" and thus represents the antonym to gregarious - Social distancing as a song writing concept. The opinion of the other band members was welcome, but required no necessity and didn’t need to influence the work of the respective musicians. In the end three songs were created - all of which showcase typical characteristics, that are part of the The Hirsch Effekt recipe, but do not sound like typical The Hirsch Effekt songs. It not only sounds like an extremely exciting experiment, but also frankly speaking: exceedingly extreme. The SOLITAER EP is rounded off by a band version of the song 'Gregaer', which was originally created as an orchestral version.

SOLITAER will be released as limited and serially numbered LP Edition incl. black vinyl, Exclusive Napalm Records Shop Edition incl. coloured vinyl, CD Edition incl. both SOLITAER and GREGAER EPs, stream and download. Also The Hirsch Effekt's latest vinyl EP GREGAER is now available again as a limited reissue with red coloured LP.

All formats are available for pre-order here: https://thehirscheffekt.lnk.to/solitaer

The Hirsch Effekt will be back on the road from June including festival appearances at UK Tech-Fest and ArcTanGent.

Black metal synthwave duo Nighted launch with debut single, 'Aeons'

Credit: Manuel Vargaz Lepiz

New project of Ivo Henzi (Cellar Darling, ex-Eluveitie)

Introducing Nighted, the new genre-bending black metal synthwave duo, who announce themselves with their debut single 'Aeons', out now via Klang Machine Records.

Stream 'Aeons' here: https://found.ee/DN7Nu

Watch the lyric video here: https://youtu.be/1SsgQ0w8Hek

Nighted are Ivo Henzi (vocals, guitars - ex-Eluveitie, Cellar Darling, Forest Of Fog) and Marc Petralito (synths, Appearance Of Nothing). One late and misty summer night, in the enforced lockdown of 2020, the two struck on the idea of mixing black metal with 70s-era synth, à la Blade Runner and Jean-Michel Jarre: and Nighted is the result.

Their first resulting proof-of-concept is 'Aeons', the first single from their upcoming debut album Absence: an introspective journey rising from the soul's abysses to the universe's endless expanses, where fierce and aggressive sounds meet anthemic, epic soundscapes. Guitar riffs rooted in modern black metal meet analogue synthesisers and Hammond organ evoking the sound of the 70s and 80s, creating a unique and compelling take on extreme music.

Ivo Henzi comments:
‘With ‘Aeons’, Nighted is born. In the overall context of the album, this is both the fastest and the longest song. We took up a 10 year-old riff idea of mine and reinterpreted it completely, to form a track that describes a destructive journey of interdimensional beings, heavily influenced by old science fiction stories. Marc and I realised immediately that this was the right song to introduce Nighted to the world.’

‘Aeons’ is but the first of a series of songs that will be unveiled throughout 2022, leading up to Nighted’s debut album Absence.

‘Aeons’ was recorded and mixed by Anna Murphy (Cellar Darling, Eluveitie & many more) at Lucerne’s Sound Farm Studio, with drums performed by session drummer Dylan Watson (Kassogtha) and mastering by Dan Suter (Coroner, Eluveitie, Krokus & many more). Nighted are signed to the newly-formed heavy music label Klang Machine Records, co-founded by drummer and artist manager Merlin Sutter, (Cellar Darling and Eluveitie).

New artist Kubrick streams third single 'Mannequin'

For fans of Bring Me The Horizon, The Weeknd, Billie Eilish

'Dizzyingly raucous' - Rock Sound

New alternative artist Kubrick has revealed his third single, 'Mannequin'.

Watch the mesmerising new video for 'Devastate' here: https://youtu.be/4W2Wvq9vJIE

Stream here: https://ditto.fm/mannequin-kubrick

Kubrick will be playing his debut live show at London's Underworld on 23rd April with TheCityIsOurs. Tickets available here. Mannequin is the third stunning single from the unique new artist following the successful 'Painfall' and 'Devastate', which have gathered over 80,000 streams already.

Of the new single, Kubrick says: "'Mannequin' is my favourite track to date, it combines elements from two of my favourite genres, Dark Pop and Metal. The track details a deeply harrowing conflict I went through with a loved one. The lyrics are both dramatic and unflinchingly honest, if anyone has ever fallen out with one of the most important people in their lives this song will probably speak to 'em."

Kubrick has been performing and composing his music in various guises for over a decade. A child of two opera singers, and grandson of the globally-famous film director that bears his name, Kubrick was constantly surrounded by creative influences.

Kubrick's favourite artists and composers are those who created music depicting their experiences of pain and loss, as well as horror and sci-fi soundtracks. Kubrick himself is no stranger to tragedy, losing his mother at a young age and subsequently his close friend and fellow bandmember in Shields.

“Whilst the trauma of these losses is something I wish I could erase,” states Kubrick, "the perspective I gained from those experiences helped me leaps and bounds in my ability to empathise with others. As well as lay a foundation for the type of music I now enjoy to create”.

Kubrick strives to release the most authentic and unforgivingly personal songs which his audience can also interpret in a multitude of ways. Driving his sound is his unique cocktail of growling guitars and cinematic synthesizers which blend seamlessly with his multi-varied vocal styles. Elements of artists as varied as Bring Me The Horizon, Billie Eilish, The Weeknd, and Linkin Park all can be heard from this truly talented new force.

As Kubrick emphasises, “I don’t think I will ever just stick to one “sound” or “genre” as my taste is continually evolving. My songwriting will never be dictated by what people want to hear, or what’s trending at any particular point. The plan is just to be unforgivably myself."

LANDMVRKS formed in 2014 in Marseille, France, and are now comprised of Florent Salfati on vocals, Rudy Purkart on bass guitar, Nicolas Exposito and Paul C. Wilson on guitars, with Kévin D’Agostino on drums.

The band spent two years writing and recording material and playing local shows, building their reputation within the French metalcore scene with a series of singles. In May 2016, LANDMVRKS self-released their debut album Hollow, which was produced entirely by Salfati and Exposito. Following the release of Hollow the band ventured on tours throughout Europe, enticing new fans with their modern metalcore style, peppered with hardcore riffs and catchy choruses. The record also landed them slots on big festivals, strengthening their reputation even further.

In 2018 LANDMVRKS signed a record deal with Arising Empire, releasing their second studio album Fantasy. Continuing to build their name with their own fresh take on metalcore, LANDMVRKS went on to travel the world, playing in Japan, embarking on several headline tours and supporting While She Sleeps and Stray From The Path on a UK/European tour.

Last year they returned with a vengeance, fresher and heavier than before with their new album Lost In The Waves. Their heaviest and most organic album to date with an uncompromising, distinctive style - this is LANDMVRKS in their purest form.

Extinction A.D. stream aggravated new single 'Culture of Violence' on album release day

Photo credit: Pieter van den Berg

European tour dates announced

Culture of Violence album out today via Unique Leader

US metal band Extinction A.D. have unveiled their aggravated new single 'Culture of Violence', taken from their brand new album, Culture of Violence, out today, 18th March, via Unique Leader.

Watch the music video to 'Culture of Violence' here: https://youtu.be/8JmKMhC9IKQ

On the new single, the band comment: "This was the last song we completed for the album and it summed up the themes of the entire project so cohesively, that we decided to re-title the album to Culture of Violence, base the artwork around the song, make it the first track on the album and film a video as the final single to launch the same day as the album's release."

They continue: "The title track from the record, much like the video, is no frills, in your face and makes no apologies musically, lyrically or conceptually. The entire world answers to one determinant factor and that's violence; both physical and mental."

Order Culture of Violence here: https://orcd.co/cultureofviolence

On the new record, Extinction A.D. comment: "Culture Of Violence is the album we've been in the process of creating since 2015. This is the record where we can firmly say with confidence, 'This is what XAD is all about!' The recording and releasing process has always been behind our songwriting by a few years, so the previous material was outdated to us before we even went in to record it. On this album, we moulded ideas for years as well as the fact that we never stopped writing, so everything is fresh and capturing us in this moment. Musically, lyrically, thematically and visually, this record is a heavy experience and a savage interpretation of what we've all witnessed and experienced over the past few years."

'Culture of Violence' follows previous singles '1992' and 'Mastic'.

Formed in 2013 on Long Island US, Extinction A.D. are an intense metal band with modern power and frenetic energy. The band have released two full-lengths and two EPs, and have shared stages with the likes of Obituary, Thy Art is Murder, Havok, Fit For An Autopsy, Testament, Suicidal Tendencies, Exodus, Kvelertak, Cattle Decapitation and more.

So many different worlds shaped this band; from writers like Alan Moore and George Orwell; lyricists like Wreak Havoc and Chuck D; to directors like Tarantino and John Carpenter. But musically, Extinction A.D. hook up a tube of early 90s era of metal into their veins. Not just bands like Machine Head and Pantera, but the often overlooked 90s offerings from Testament, Sepultura and Slayer.

Thrashing just as hard as their predecessors, the band also break their surroundings down and deliver some heavy as hell riotous mosh; hitting that all-important sweet spot mixture of 80s thrash, 90s extreme metal and New York hardcore, all encompassed into their new LP.

Extinction A.D will tour the USA on a headline run with Rhythm of Fear throughout March, and with The Black Dahlia Murder and Cannibal Corpse throughout August. Dates below:

Breathe Atlantis release new album & video for 'Going Down'

New album Overdrive out today via Arising Empire

2022 is the year Breathe Atlantis finally break through" - Metal Hammer

German metalcore quartet Breathe Atlantis have released their eagerly anticipated album Overdrive, out now via Arising Empire. The band have also shared a video for 'Going Down'.

Check out the video for 'Going Down' here: https://youtu.be/NLbj5Wq1MMY

Stream/purchase Overdrive here: https://arisingempire.com/overdrive

Vocalist Nico Schiesewitz comments:

"Overdrive has become a turning point for us, which we all needed. On the record we process our past, in which we were often frustrated and depressed due to external circumstances, and we felt limited and constricted by expectations or external ideas. On this album we just did what we felt like doing, we wrote and shouted everything from the soul. This is our most honest and emotional album we've written so far and I think it will speak to a lot of people."

Featuring 'Going Down', as well as previous singles 'Break The Silence', ‘Changes’ (feat. Eskimo Callboy’s Nico Sallah), ‘Earthquake’, ‘Savior’ (feat. Imminence’s Eddie Berg) and title track ‘Overdrive’, Breathe Atlantis display a maturity on their new record that will no doubt skyrocket them to success. Working with producer Andy Posdziech (Any Given Day, Caliban, Nasty), the four-piece brought their true identity to the surface and wrapped it in a modern, aggressive sound.

The first new material since their 2019 album Soulmade, Overdrive is two years in the making and packed with bigger, heavier riffs and driving, forceful drums. Schiesewitz's relentless, bone-grinding shouts will send shivers down your spine, until the stadium-ready choruses hit you right in the gut.

UK metal quartet HERIOT stream title track of debut EP 'Profound Morality'

Profound Morality due 29th April via Church Road Records

New metal group HERIOT have streamed the title track of their mighty debut EP, Profound Morality, due 29th April via Church Road Records

Stream 'Profound Morality' and pre-order the EP here: https://bfan.link/profound-morality
Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/TF-RzrTUILA

Julian Gage, drums, comments: ''Profound Morality' is the title track from our upcoming record. It illustrates the conflict of humanity in trying to maintain a clear conscience and how our weaknesses make us real. This song is unlike anything we’ve done before as HERIOT.'

HERIOT are a blistering, vicious, visceral new group, having made their mark with their titanic singles 'Dispirit', 'Recreant', 'Cleansed Existence', ‘Near Vision/Enter the Flesh’ as well as their monstrous cover of Machine Head's 'Ten Ton Hammer' over the course of 2021.

The band’s output across the last year has led to heads being turned across the metal world, all blown away by HERIOT’s unrelenting take on the new heavy. Fully-focused and with a razor-sharp edge, the awe-inspiring double-vocal attack of Jake Packer and Debbie Gough on vocals is all-conquering; the titanic support of Erhan Alman (guitar) and Julian Gage (drums) rock-solid.

HERIOT have deservedly been grabbing attention with all four pairs of hands, weaponising metallic sludge and hardcore, unholy levels of distortion, speed and gut-punching talent. Elements of NailsKnocked LooseCode Orange, and Vein combine and collide to exhilarating new effect, to create a new sound that is truly groundbreaking, fully worthy of the notice the band are achieving.

In their short recent history HERIOT have caught the attention of Metal Hammer, Rock Sound, Brooklyn Vegan, Kerrang!, Revolver, and Knotfest, among many others. Acclaimed as "one of the most promising young bands in modern metalcore", HERIOT have recently supported Rolo Tomassi on their UK tour and will be performing at Download2000trees and Bloodstock festivals in 2022.
