German modern heavy quintet Time, The Valuator are back with new single 'Black Water', their first new music since 2019 and also the first release with their new singer Daniel Moczarski. 'Black Water' introduces a conceptional journey outlining basic human fears, as a preparation for a deep-dive into the general question "What defines being human?"

Time, The Valuator comment new single: "'Black Water' deals with the mental struggles of addiction, especially those which nest invisibly and persistently over decades. Addiction to attention, toxic and dangerous temptations we learned from society and/or violence, traumata which guide us the wrong way and finally the urge to hurt oneself just to satisfy a requirement we wouldn't know of, if we weren't conditioned to believe in its existence."

With songs full of emotion, powerful vocals and infectious groove, Time, The Valuator have risen to become one of the most promising new acts in the modern rock sphere. The German quintet impresses not only with their music but also with their message. In the words of guitarist Rene Möllenbeck, "Time, The Valuator strive to create something to be remembered."

Drawing on elements of progressive metal, alternative rock, djent and pop, Time, The Valuator create a unique sound that pushes genre boundaries and touches emotionally. Their 2018 debut album, How Fleeting, How Fragile (Long Branch Records), received international critical acclaim and singles like 'Elusive Reasons', 'When I Meet Death' or 'Vibrant' have since been streamed millions of times.

First Signs of Frost tackle estrangement with new single and music video for 'Loss'

Anthropocene album due September

London-based progressive post-hardcore band First Signs of Frost have released a brand new music video for their latest single 'Loss'. The track, with lyrical content tackling the topic of estrangement, is taken from the band's upcoming album Anthropocene, due for release in September 2022.

Watch the video to 'Loss' here: https://youtu.be/ngJ77f9ko6k

On the new single, guitarist Owen Hughes-Holland comments:

"The song tackles the topic of having an absent relative and the idea of that person reappearing unexpectedly after a long period of time. It deals with the conflicting feelings of that relative choosing only now to make amends after many years with no contact, and the rollercoaster of emotions that go along with that process. It was inspired by someone very close to me who was in that situation."

Drawing influence from the likes of DeftonesTool and Glassjaw, London-based four-piece First Signs Of Frost push boundaries with their unique blend of technical instrumentation, epic soundscapes and anthemic vocal melodies. Forming in 2004 with a line-up consisting of longtime friends Owen Hughes-Holland (vocals/guitar), Adam Mason (guitar), Will Gates (drums) and Dan Oehlman (bass), the band released their consequential debut EP In Our Final Chapter the following year.

In 2007 First Signs of Frost signed their first record deal with Japanese label Zestone Records, and after a successful UK tour supporting metal-core legends Exit Ten, they recruited Daniel Tompkins as their main vocalist. The band then began writing their debut album Atlantic, all whilst securing subsequent tours and major support slots with acts such as Deaf Havana, Enter Shikari, Architects, You Me At Six, and more.

Following a hiatus since the departure of Tompkins in 2009, founding members Owen Hughes-Holland and Adam Mason set out to resurrect the band. With a new lease of life and a fresh line-up, First Signs of Frost moulded their sound into a more groove and ambient direction, manifesting itself in the aptly titled 2017 EP The Shape of Things to Come, via Basick Records. With their well received EP in tow, the band took to the studio in late 2019 to work on their second full-length album, Anthropocene, this time with help of exciting new frontman Ronan Villiers. Now, with the forthcoming single ‘Loss’ in tow, the highly anticipated album following in September will be released through Alaskan Records. 2022 will be yet another landmark year for the progressive post-hardcore pioneers.

FLOYA release video for new single 'Epiphany'

'Epiphany' out now via Arising Empire

Rising from the ashes of ALAZKA and Time, The Valuator, German duo FLOYA have released a video for their third single 'Epiphany', out now via Arising Empire. After making waves with their previous single 'The Hymn', 'Epiphany' is a self-reflecting song that dips into the band's multitude of influences.

Check out the video for 'Epiphany': https://youtu.be/cqT7Ir4gK5g

Stream/purchase 'Epiphany' here: https://arisingempire.com/epiphany

Vocalist Phil Bayer comments:

"'Epiphany' is the kind of song that’s inviting you to look inwards, to self-reflect. You're meant to get lost in it. So all you gotta do is lean back, close your eyes and start the journey.”

FLOYA, consisting of Phil Bayer and Marv Wilder, blend modern EDM elements with poppy hooks on their previous single 'Wonders'. After carving a name for themselves as the founders and songwriters of their previous acts, Phil and Marv are on a journey of their own, exploring a vast array of genres and following one simple mantra: There are no limits. With this statement engraved on their minds, FLOYA strive to create something bigger than themselves, taking listeners on an unforgettable adventure.

FLOYA teamed up with Chris Kempe at Embark Audio (ALAZKA and Time, The Valuator) for full production duties and additional songwriting, with mastering handled by Robin Schmidt (The 1975, You Me At Six, Biffy Clyro, Don Broco).

HEILUNG release new single/video 'Anoana'

Credit: Andy Julia

New album Drif to be released 19th August via Season of Mist

Pre-orders available now

Enigmatic world music collective HEILUNG have unveiled their stunning new single / video 'Anoana', the first glimpse of their upcoming new full length Drif, to be released 19th August via Season of Mist.

Watch the magical new video here: https://youtu.be/SVbc_Fwbt50

The group comment: "In 'Anoana', the listener has the chance to delve into a collection of likely encoded spells from the Migration Period and get a touch of magic from the Dark Ages. The intention of the piece is to playfully reconnect to an incantational language of a period where the North was richer in gold than any other region. Our forefathers presumably enjoyed a time of great prosperity and it may make us rethink how dark these ages really were."

The album can now be pre-ordered HERE and pre-saved HERE.

[HEILUNG are shortly available for interviews. Please get in touch - matt@holdtight.co to organise].

Track-list:
1. Asja (5:17)
2. Anoana (4:57)
3. Tenet (13:05)
4. Urbani (2:55)
5. Keltentrauer (8:26)
6. Nesso (7:54)
7. Buslas Bann (5:03)
8. Nikkal (3:04)
9. Marduk (8:34)
Total: 59:15

Watch HEILUNG on tour:

14 Jan 23 London (UK) O2 Academy Brixton
17 Jan 23 Manchester (UK) Bridgewater Hall
19 Jan 23 Dublin (IE) National Stadium
22 Jan 23 Glasgow (UK) Barrowland

HEILUNG means "healing" in the German language, and aptly describes the core of the band's sound. The 'amplified history' trio reach back into our collective past to present a truly immersive experience, leaving the listener at ease and in a relaxed state, after a magical musical journey that is at times turbulent.

HEILUNG reach far back in time to the Northern European Iron Age and Viking period to create the foundations of their sonic experience. The band utilises many means in their songs: from running water via human bones, reconstructed swords and shields up to ancient frame drums as well as bronze rings. It’s difficult to simply categorise a band that uses such a variety of influences, traditions, and instruments to create immersive soundscapes. Hence, the group settled on the description 'amplified history' to best describe their music.

When HEILUNG self-released Ofnir in 2015, the Danish band could hardly have anticipated the breakthrough success of their debut album. Spectacular live shows, strong critical acclaim, and a massive underground buzz added to the constantly high demand for this full-length led to HEILUNG’s new label Season of Mist re-issuing Ofnir in several collector's edition formats. HEILUNG's live album, LIFA (2017) was released in parallel.

The visionary three-piece continued gathering praise with their latest full-length Futha, released in 2019 which debuted at #3 on the Billboard Heatseeker charts and #4 on the Billboard World Music Charts in the United States, placing on a total of seven Billboard charts within the first week of its release. For the single 'Norupo' a music video was filmed at the Neolithic standing stones at Les Menhirs de Monteneuf in France, which can be viewed HERE.

The band’s music has been widely used in pop culture and transcends the traditional genre boundaries in music. Not only did leading television broadcaster HBO use their music in the trailer for the hit series Game of Thrones, HEILUNG’s sounds can also be heard in series like Vikings and Ragnarök on Netflix, as well as in the trailer for 2022's blockbuster The Northman.

Furthermore, the group has been collaborating with game studios for the soundtrack of several mainstream video games. In 2020, gaming company Ninja Theory and HEILUNG started to work on the soundtrack for their upcoming game, 'Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II.' The announcement trailer for the new game features HEILUNG's song 'In Maidjan,' which is taken from their debut album, Ofnir. Watch the trailer HERE.

Later, HEILUNG was invited to join in another video game collaboration with MY.GAMES and Booming Tech for the new season of the 'Conqueror's Blade' video game, 'VII: "Wolves of Ragnarok." The trailer for the game, featuring the track 'Galgaldr', can be found HERE. HEILUNG will also see their name being immortalised in one of the new combat map locations, which is now officially called ‘Heilung Fjord,’ and serves as a place for healing.

While the world came to a stop during the pandemic, the three-piece retreated into the studio to write and record the forthcoming album Drif. In classic HEILUNG fashion, all sounds are hand-crafted organically by the group. To create Drif, HEILUNG sought for forgotten songs, hand-crafted ancient instruments, and transcribed dead languages to spread messages of love and nature-respect. Drif will be HEILUNG's most immersive and successful work to date.

In their own words:

Drif means “gathering”. A throng of people, a horde, a crowd, a pack. In symbiosis with the album title, Drif consists of a flock, a collection, a gathering, a collage of songs, that much like little flames were seeking towards each other, to join, to bond, to create, and be greater together. This album has very clearly dictated its own path. Our attempts to tame it was repeatedly fruitless and once we came to this realisation, the creative flow surged forward with immense force. So much so that sometimes it felt like the songs wrote themselves. All the songs on Drif have their own stories. They have each their place and sense of belonging, with inspiration not only from Northern Europe, but from the ancient great civilisations.”

2. Fallen
3. The Ancient Ones

6. Origins

SAOR, in Scottish Gaelic, pronounced [sɯːɾ], means free, without obligations, unconstrained. All of these characteristics intrinsic to the music of SAOR, the musical entity spearheaded by sole member Andy Marshall

A lone wanderer proudly telling tales and myths of his culture from the tops of misty Caledonian mountains, Andy has carved a solitary, yet strikingly inspiring path with SAOR ever since his first album Roots in 2013.

A decade on, Andy is set release his fifth full-length; a decade in which Andy and SAOR have almost single-handedly made us all feel a little bit like Scots at heart, regardless of our own individual origins. Such is the passionate and almost visual way that this musician delivers his profoundly atmospheric hybrid of black and folk metal, peculiarly described as Caledonian metal.

Written over the pandemic, fifth album Origins appeared as a result of these difficult times. And for their first album in three years, and their premiere for Season of Mist, we wouldn’t expect anything other than… the unexpected. A counter reaction of sorts to the more meandering and even “accessible” direction of the previous records, perhaps inspired by its main theme of the Picts (a group of peoples who lived in what is now northern and eastern Scotland during Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages) and their fierce battles, Origins comes across as a more raging, black metal-infused effort, copiously evocative in its imagery and even melancholic in places, but decisively strong and abrasive at the same time.

“This album is a lot more guitar driven,” Andy confirms. “During the pandemic I listened to a lot of classic heavy metal and I think you’ll hear the influences on the dual lead guitars and solos. I also wanted this to be my heaviest album with emphasis on the riffs. My harsh vocals have changed from deep growls to more of a black metal style. Since the subject of the album is the Picts, I wanted a pagan theme throughout, and so that aspect is a lot more prominent than in the previous albums. I also used instruments such as the Carnyx and tribal drumming to convey that feeling.”

One of the strongest songs on offer, the opener in fact, 'Call of the Carnyx', is in fact about the Carnyx itself, the ancient Celtic war horn, and it conveys like never before the feeling that it must have been to hear its resounding bellow, calling the Pictish warriors to battle. A moving homage to the legacy of the Picts, Origins guides us through their gods, their fallen heroes who died protecting their families and land, and what still remains of their identity in the Scottish people of today.

As much as we have food for thought assured and guaranteed entertainment and inspiration for the months to come as we listen to and explore Origins and its themes, its creator is naturally already moving on. Andy doesn’t need much to create the worlds SAOR albums inhabit, and his most powerful tool is always with him.

“I don’t need to be in one particular place to write or be inspired,” he explains. “I do have my own little office/studio in my home where I write music and lyrics, but it’s nothing special. My imagination is the most powerful tool for SAOR.”

Not only do we vehemently agree, we would even say that imagination is the most powerful tool, always, for everyone. The one untamed weapon we all possess and can use at all times. Free. Without obligations. Unconstrained.

For The Fallen Dreams sign to Arising Empire and release video for new single 'What If'

'What If' out now via Arising Empire

Metal quintet For The Fallen Dreams have announced their signing to Arising Empire. In light of the announcement, the band have released a video for their brand new single 'What If'.

Check out the video for 'What If' here: https://youtu.be/yYWWqF-STbQ

Stream/purchase 'What If': https://arisingempire.com/whatif

For The Fallen Dreams comment on signing to Arising Empire:

"We are very excited to be breaking into this new era of For The Fallen Dreams with the extremely dedicated and hard working team at Arising Empire. Sharing the vision for the future of the band's success is extremely refreshing and motivating. We look forward to a great rest of the year and everything that follows with our new single 'What If'. See you on the road."

'What If' was produced by Jonathan Dolese at Konkrete Studios (Cane Hill), with vocal production duties by Daniel "DL" Laskiewicz (All That Remains, Bad Wolves) and visualisation by Wombat Fire (Five Finger Death Punch, Asking Alexandria).

What’s that old saying? “The more things change, the more they stay the same.” When it comes to Michigan-based metal outfit For The Fallen Dreams, perhaps a more fitting - but just as timeless - adage would be “change is the only constant.”

For The Fallen Dreams' career is defined by constant progression and a dedication to refining and rejuvenating their unique brand of aggressive, passionate metal. The five-piece have consistently demonstrated an ability to adapt and evolve their sound and dynamic, despite overwhelming adversity, all without sacrificing the core components of their sound.

Built around explosive breakdowns, gut-wrenching grooves and lyricism that touches on everything from an introspective glimpse into the human condition to brotherhood and camaraderie, these Midwestern masters of metal have made themselves a staple within the international heavy music community.

For The Fallen Dreams formed in 2003, but their story starts in earnest with the release of 2008's Changes - a record that would greatly impact the footprint of heavy music. Following Changes, For The Fallen Dreams went on to release five more remarkable full-length records, from the atmospheric and moody Relentless to chart-topping comeback record Heavy Hearts, which landed at #162 on the Billboard Top 200 and #3 on Billboard Heatseekers lists. Six saw the band venture into more metallic territory, with over 20 million views on YouTube and tens of millions of streams across various streaming platforms.

While For The Fallen Dreams have been through their fair share of changes, one thing has remained constant: their dedication to growth while never failing to deliver primal-yet-emotional music, which has made them a staple in modern metal.

Jim Hocking | guitar & vocals
Damon Tate | guitar

Phoxjaw release new single 'sungazer'

Credit: GLK Media

"Phoxjaw collide sludge metal with gravelly Britpop and ignite their tent" - The Guardian
"a unique and exciting proposition" - Metal Hammer
"no-one here will forget the experience any time soon" - Kerrang!

Mercurial Bristol quartet Phoxjaw have released their new single/video 'sungazer', their first new material since 2020's acclaimed debut LP Royal Swan.

Watch the video: https://youtu.be/TyQlirPt-Fo
Stream: https://hasslerecords.ffm.to/sungazer

Phoxjaw comment:

"The sun is quite literally gonna burn us all one day, you can take that in two directions, a super nihilistic view on things served with a smile, or as an opportunity to hold the things you love close and cherish them. With very pagan-esque themes, the bouncing and upbeat track takes bi-polar twists and turns into something darker and heavier, whilst still preserving the same chaotic Phoxjaw energy presented on previous releases. We hope this track digs deep into your brain and burns out your eyes."

'sungazer' is signature Phoxjaw - eclectic, irreverent, titanically heavy and endlessly inventive. Written in various states of lockdown, the new track is an insight into Phoxjaw's future mindset - combining progressive, punishing sonics with hyper-glossy pop influences. Depression, nihilism, nostalgia and suffering, all served in a sugary cone.

The new single follows a triumphant period for Phoxjaw, including their debut Download appearance. Previous tours with Loathe, Pagan, Black Peaks and more and reams of press support have rightly earmarked this one-of-a-kind quartet as ones to watch.

Watch the band perform the main stage of 2000trees Thursday 7th July, and supporting Blood Command on the following dates:

September:
04 England, Brighton, Washed Out Festival
06 England, London, Camden Assembly
07 England, Bristol, Exchange

Iacono comments on the new single:

"‘Exiled’ deals with feeling completely disconnected with your surroundings and society in general, where nothing is logical to your understanding of life, and in return standing your ground for what is real to you and makes sense to your life and survival. The song is personal to me on more than one level, but people can interpret this how it fits best their own world, it has an open concept."

Enterprise Earth officially welcomes vocalist Travis Worland to the line-up; release new single

Progressive deathcore outfit Enterprise Earth are pleased to officially welcome singer Travis Worland (Aethere, Bite//Down, The Willow) to their ranks. Worland has been fronting the band throughout their 2022 live adventures. The band have also released a brand new single, 'Psalm Of Agony', the first to feature the new frontman.

Listen to 'Psalm Of Agony' here: https://youtu.be/Tif5inda93w

Comments guitarist Gabe Mangold: “We’re very stoked to officially announce Travis Worland as the new singer of Enterprise Earth . His vocal style, performance, personality, and work ethic are a perfect fit for us and we cannot wait for everyone to hear the first song that we’ve created together, ‘Psalm Of Agony’. Prepare for the best incarnation of Enterprise Earth yet."

Enterprise Earth recently wrapped up a European tour supporting Fit For An Autopsy. In July, the band will kick off their US headlining run. The Chosen Tour begins 22nd July in Seattle, Washington and runs through 20th August in Salt Lake City, Utah. Support will be provided by Within Destruction, Sentinels, and labelmates Great American Ghost

Enterprise Earth continues to tour in support of their latest full-length, The Chosen, released earlier this year via MNRK Heavy. Thick with atmosphere and groove-driven, old-school death metal with modern flourishes, The Chosen finds Enterprise Earth switching gears from earth-shattering breakdowns to sickeningly slow sludge to blast furnace pummelling with seemingly effortless ease. Wrote Blabbermouth: “…Enterprise Earth come pretty close to transcending deathcore altogether on The Chosen, instead pursuing a new and often electrifying hybrid of modern (and not so modern) metallic styles, replete with far bigger tunes than on any previous record. From the opening seconds of ‘Where Dreams Are Broken,’ the sheer, shiny weight of this thing is abundantly apparent. The Chosen sounds huge and definitive.” Added MetalSucks: The Chosen is Enterprise Earth’s most-everything record to date: it’s the heaviest, the most vicious, the most technical, and, not for nothing, the catchiest offering in the band’s already-impressive repertoire, and it’s already destined to be one of 2022’s must-hear metal releases.”

The Chosen is available on CD, LP, cassette, and digitally. Find ordering options here
