Alternative rock quintet Anberlin have released a video for 'Two Graves'. The track was released last year as an early taste of new music and features on the band's new EP Silverline, out now via Rude Records (UK/EU) and Equal Vision Records (ROW).

Silverline marks the Anberlin's first new collection of songs in eight years and showcases their expansive sound, ranging from rock anthems to post-rock inspired tracks. Entering Feral Sound Studios in Tampa, FL, the band self-produced the EP alongside help from friends Tim McTague (of Underoath), Chad Carouthers, and JJ Revell. The five songs on Silverline showcase the band’s penchant for creating incredible alternative rock, filled with engaging tempo changes and introspective lyrics.

'Nothing Lost' explores the importance of a support system who can challenge your mistakes, while 'Asking' looks past the surface to deeper connections with others and yourself. The EP ends on a strong note, with the swirling, rhythmic chorus of lead single 'Circles'.

Anberlin have also announced a tour celebrating their 20th anniversary. In select cities they’ll be doing three nights of full album performances for Never Take Friendship Personal, Cities, and New Surrender. They’ll also be appearing at Riot Fest in Chicago, IL and When We Were Young in Las Vegas, NV. Tickets for all shows are on-sale here: https://anberlin.com/

Prog trio The Hirsch Effekt share new single / video 'Palingenesis'

German progressive metal trio The Hirsch Effekt share their new single / video 'Palingenesis', the second single taken from the new SOLITAER EP, out 26th August via Long Branch Records.

The Hirsch Effekt bassist Ilja John Lappin commented: "'Palingenesis' is my contribution to the SOLITAER EP, on which each band member wrote a song. It's the memory of a path that I inevitably had to take. When life as we knew it suddenly came to a stop with the first lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic, I was forced to confront a very dark place that I had mentally arrived at. A crisis of purpose, sealed by a cycle of loneliness and depression as well as the tireless, and at the same time, unstable routine of the previous years, unfolded with full force in a new, unknown surrounding. During this long period of isolation, I took a desperately needed break for myself. Unable to stop. Unable to understand who I actually had become over the years and where I had landed in life. 'Palingenesis' is a hymn to the battle itself. To your own strength, of which you're often sure you no longer have, especially when greater, darker clouds are gathering on the horizon once again. A hymn to the fight back to your own heartbeat."

Irish noise-pop sextet THUMPER release new single '25'

Irish noise-pop / post-punk sextet THUMPER have released their punchy new single '25'. The track is the final single from the band's debut album Delusions of Grandeur, released earlier this year.

Stream/purchase '25' here: https://found.ee/25THUMPER

Frontman Oisín Leahy Furlong comments: '"25' is one of the first songs that we ever collaborated on as a unit, and the first time I felt like we had stumbled across a formula that was unique to us. It's a fairly fretful and existential number, written when I was 24 about turning 25, recorded when I was 27 and released when I was 29... and the cosmic ballet rumbles on..."

'25' precedes the band's extensive tour of the UK, Ireland and Europe, which includes an appearance at Reading & Leeds Festival and a number of sold-out shows across Europe.

Delusions Of Grandeur has been championed by notable tastemakers The Line of Best Fit, GoldenPlec, BBC Radio 1 DJ Gemma Bradley and many more. Off the back of their debut album, THUMPER have received UK and international radio airplay on BBC 6Music, Radio X, KEXP and Kink Punt NL, and made TV performances on RTE’s Tommy Tiernan Show and Other Voices.

Stream/purchase Delusions of Grandeur here: https://orcd.co/j4a8pjo

Over the last two years the Dublin six-piece have been developing their sound and building an increasingly passionate fanbase. With a line up of two drummers and three guitarists, THUMPER’s maximalist wall of sound has long since set them apart in the booming Dublin music scene, and has them “punching like heavyweights alongside Fontaines DC and The Murder Capital” (Chris Hawkins, BBC Radio 6).

Delusions of Grandeur reveals THUMPER’s trademark penchant for saccharine melody and unabashed hooks, all the while set against their signature psych-drenched rumble. This harsh juxtaposition of sweet and caustic is where THUMPER thrive.

While Delusions of Grandeur features plenty of homages to classic alt rock such as Weezer, Pixies or The Dandy Warhols, it is also steeped in the influence of contemporaries such as Viagra Boys, King Gizzard, Shame and even Idles at their most psychedelic. At other points the sheer bombastic nature of its production recalls Irish psych alumni My Bloody Valentine on Loveless, or no wave veterans Sonic Youth on Daydream Nation.

Delusions of Grandeur however is not just a statement of musical intent. The LP's title refers to a struggle of self image, internal and external, and the existential maintenance that all of this implies. Frontman Leahy Furlong’s visceral and surreal lyrics obsess over the search for the ‘authentic self’ in a medium so steeped in pretentiousness.

This central tension mirrors and challenges the chaos of light and dark in the music itself, as the record continuously swings from light hearted to brutal, keeping the listener hooked the entire time.

While THUMPER remain 'Cult heroes' (Clash Magazine) in Ireland, the six-piece band are no stranger to international touring. They've already completed three extensive UK tours, a European tour, supported Fangclub, and appeared at festivals such as Groningen's Eurosonic Festival ('My highlight of Eurosonic. Epic! Such a massive, massive sound' Abbie McCarthy, BBC Radio 1), and Hamburg's Mucke Bei Dei Fische.

THUMPER are:

Oisín Leahy Furlong - Vocals, Guitar
Alan Dooley - Guitar, Backing Vocals
Alex Harvey - Guitar, Backing Vocals
Dav Campbell - Bass, Backing Vocals
Stevie D’Arcy - Drums
Benedict Warner-Clayton - Drums

Stoner/sludge trio Somnuri sign to MNRK Heavy and release video for new single 'Coils'

Brooklyn, New York stoner/sludge trio Somnuri have announced their signing to MNRK Heavy. To celebrate the band have released a video for their standalone single 'Coils', which is released ahead of their upcoming third full-length.

'Coils' seamlessly fuses rugged heaviness with epic and melodic instrumentals. Somnuri's groove-forward, bludgeoning riffs, and psychedelic atmosphere is in spirit with the likes of High On Fire, Mastodon, and Torche.

Check out the video for 'Coils' here: https://youtu.be/6ua5Hx6MgHg

Stream/purchase 'Coils' here: https://ffm.to/somnuri-coils

The band comment on the single:

“The song ‘Coils’ is about getting stuck in loops. It’s about repeating the same mistakes and searching deep within to overcome them.”

They add on their signing to MNRK Heavy:

Somnuri are beyond stoked to be a part of the MNRK Heavy family. Joining the ranks of this roster is an absolute honor and we look forward to bringing our flavor of heavy to the mix.”

Among other hustles, hitting the pavement and providing a cannabis delivery service was one of the main catalysts in Somnuri's infant stages, adopting a DIY ethos early on. The grind it takes to survive in New York City seeps into their music and it’s hard not to hear elements of the city throughout: sludge, atmosphere, and at times brutal dissonance, layered with pounding and entrancing rhythms and low-end frequencies that make your guts rattle. Somnuri's sound weaves in and out of hauntingly infectious melodies, bludgeoning riffs and grooves that shift time and tempo often.

Somnuri started when two multi-instrumentalists joined forces after sharing the stage and practice spaces in previous Brooklyn-based bands. Justin Sherrell (guitar/vocals) had guitar ideas he wanted to develop further and soon linked up with drummer Phil SanGiacomo. The ability of both founding members to explore ideas on guitar, bass, drums and vocals continues to be the band’s lifeblood.

Somnuri's first and second LPs were very well-received, with BrooklynVegan championing, “a familiar, nostalgic sound,” that, Somnuri genuinely breathe new life into.” With a willingness to venture into new sonic spaces of heavy music, Somnuri’s upcoming full-length is in the works and due for release in 2023 via MNRK Heavy. Further info will be revealed in the coming months.

Somnuri live:

8/09/2022 Saint Vitus Bar - Brooklyn, NY w/ Crowbar, Spirit Adrift, Stabbed
8/26/2022 Tattoo The Earth Festival Pre-Party @ The Palladium - Worcester, MA w/ Unearth, Sworn Enemy, Boundaries, Hazing Over

Somnuri live line-up:

Justin Sherrell - guitar, vocals
Phil SanGiacomo - drums
Mike G - bass

Post-hardcore outfit New Habits release new single 'Breakaway'

Inspiring new post-hardcore troupe New Habits have revealed their single 'Breakaway'.

Watch 'Breakaway' here: https://youtu.be/_RvVcWacn-Q

Stream: https://linktr.ee/newhabitsband

'Breakaway' is a heartfelt ballad of introspection, letting go of the old to make room for the new. Blending elements of rock and electronic, with emotionally-charged lyrics and vocals, 'Breakaway' takes the listener on an audible, emotional journey of self-evolution.

The new single follows from New Habits' previous, 'Poor Old Me', featuring Charlie Rolfe of As Everything Unfolds.

Watch: https://youtu.be/NbQXGPweebY

Combining elements of Bring Me The Horizon, Currents, Spiritbox and Underoath, New Habits are already being marked as a new band to watch through the quality of their songwriting and the immediacy of their approach.

Starting in 2020, everything New Habits have created focuses on this attitude - taking negative viewpoints and turning them positive; moving from problem-oriented lyrics to solution-oriented lyrics.

New Habits are fully DIY, managed and self-produced at will, featuring members of Chelsea Grin and I Am Haunted. Their collective life experiences make New Habits an important, real, new voice - experiences that echo throughout the band's music.

Members of New Habits have variously dealt with depressive episodes, existential crisis, drug dependence, anxiety, family bereavement and relapse - all events that could easily lead to nihilism and cynicism. Instead, the band focuses on overturning and overcoming these moments - an attitude that will surely resonate with those looking for hope in their hurt.

Armed For Apocalypse release bruising new single 'Hourglass'

Uncompromising sludge juggernaut Armed For Apocalypse have released a bruising new single, 'Hourglass', ahead of their third album release, Ritual Violence, which debuts on 7th October via Candlelight Records.

Check out second single, ‘Hourglass’ here: https://youtu.be/J4puQpN5Z9E
Pre-order the album here: https://armedforapocalypse.lnk.to/RitualViolence

Vocalist Nate Burman comments on the new single: “This is a song for the entire band. It’s about touring through the worst. Feeling exhausted from it all, like nobody cares what we’re doing, and still keeping your head high. Most bands would have hung it up going through what we have. We’ve stuck around simply because we love to create and play music together. It gives us a sense of fulfilment in life that nothing else does.”

Forthcoming new album Ritual Violence is an unrelenting aural onslaught and sees the band at their most aggressive. Both a product and expression of their never-die attitude, it’s the album Armed for Apocalypse always wanted to make, with the engineer they wanted to make it Kurt Ballou, God City (Converge, High On Fire, Every Time I Die ) and the label they wanted to partner with, Candlelight Records. Featuring guest appearances from Andreas Kisser (Sepultura) on track 'Foredoomed' and Trevor Phipps (Unearth) on 'Suffer For A Living', it is Armed for Apocalypse refined to its purest form: 0 percent frills,100 percent heavy riffs.

Forming in California in the aughts, Armed for Apocalypse quickly released 2009’s Defeat (Ironclad Recordings). That’s where they laid out their mission statement: we are going to tune low, play riffs, and make heavy metal that makes you bang your fucking head. Real amps turned up, real drums hit hard, no bullshit. 2013’s The Road Will End (Ironclad) complicated their thesis, the band experimenting with new structures and incorporating a broader sonic palette. But member changes and new life directions led to a challenging five years before their next release, 2018’s Palm Reader EP. Now, in 2022, they return more focused than ever with their most potent and unwavering album to date. Ritual Violence is eleven tracks of bludgeoning skullf*ckery; a record from a band who are confident in who they are, and what they want to do. And who won’t let anything get in the way of that. Not the years. Not the heartache. Not an industry that devalues its creators. Nothing.

Armed for Apocalypse has never done it the easy way. But on this latest record is a statement and a promise: they will do it their way.

Anti-pop trio gürl release brand new single 'Crying In Nightclub Bathrooms'

Photo Credit: Mitchel Lucas (editing by Jack Watkins)

Anti-pop trio gürl have released their brand new single 'Crying In Nightclub Bathrooms', the first taste of their upcoming EP Ouija, due for release this autumn. The track follows the band's smasher 'ANTIPOP' and subsequent rebel anthem 'Gucci, Honey, Dirty Money'.

Check out the video for 'Crying In Nightclub Bathooms' here: https://youtu.be/kzyo9RsK19w

Stream/purchase 'Crying In Nightclub Bathrooms' here: https://found.ee/gurl-cinb

Mixed by Rhys May and mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios, 'Crying In Nightclub Bathrooms' is the next step in gürl's conquest of the bleeding edge of alternative music.

Vocalist Joshua Dalton comments:

"'Crying In Nightclub Bathrooms' is the soundtrack to the reckless, strobe light-pounding bass melodrama we put ourselves through when getting over a relationship – and an ode to self-destruction."

gürl are anti-pop: Froot Loops and butcher knives, bubblegum and razor blades, and fashion posing as music, all wrapped in diva choruses with heavy guitars, rock drums and trap production. Think Ashnikko meets Loathe and Billie Eilish meets Bring Me The Horizon, but drenched in a magnificent shade of pink. The result is dangerous: it’s glam, it’s heavy, it’s camp, it’s sarcastic, it’s narcissistic, it’s ironic, and most importantly, it goes hard.

The Bristol-based outfit were founded by vocalist/lyricist Joshua Dalton and guitarist Jonny Turner, on the condition that they would be called gürl, offering a cynical reflection on music marketing by choosing a name that ‘cool people’ would wear on a t-shirt. They started out with neo-soul but soon found that they could (and should) go much harder, combining outrageous lyrics, stadium-sized riffs, heavy-hitting drums, and irresistible basslines, all glued together by tasteful (but never meek) trap elements.

Vocalist/lyricist Joshua Dalton cares about words and means what he says. Following his father’s death, he found his road to Damascus by realising that each time he found himself in a dark place, he turned to music: "Every fight, every sleepless night, every break-up: music is this unrelenting, limitless, untameable source of joy."

Guitarist Jonny Turner thinks about little other than, well, playing the guitar. The co-founder, co-writer and co-producer alongside Joshua has honed his skills in countless bands and shows, learning to translate the electric shocks received he experienced playing rural Romanian bars directly into the energy he now projects on stage.

Joining the gürl group in the summer of 2022, Jay Parker turns up both temperature and volume with four strings and attitude. Creative from the get-go, she received her first guitar as a backcombed, eyelinered, skinny-jean-wearing teenage scene kid – a gift from her parents, alongside early inspiration ranging from Missy Elliot to Green Day and Pink Floyd. Though Jay has since graduated in fashion communication and also shines as a model, stylist, photographer, baker, and connaisseur of salty snacks, her calling is and has always been music, with all the sweat, tears, and blistered fingers that come with it.

Solo progressive guitarist Jan Rivera releases second single/video

New progressive guitarist Jan Rivera has revealed his second single/video, 'Things That Don't Fit'.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/llf_5N52NYE

Stream / purchase here: https://janrivera.bandcamp.com/track/things-that-dont-fit-feat-mohini-dey-and-marco-minnemann

Featuring bass guitar virtuoso Mohini Dey (Jordan Rudess, Jordan Richardson, AR Rahman), 'Things That Don't Fit' is another heady glimpse into the impressive sonic world Jan Rivera is building. Accompanied too by prog drumming legend Marco Minnemann (Steven Wilson, The Aristocrats) , 'Things That Don't Fit' is a musical performance tour de force.

Jan Rivera comments: “This music requires a certain level of facility and musicianship in order for the interactions to flow organically. Even though the single has polyrhythms and a myriad of meters, it is easy to tell that these were all just a vehicle to get the musical vision across. It’s more than just playing complicated stuff, it’s all about telling a story within the complexity of the material.

Mohini and Marco achieved this and made it fun. Their musicianship is beyond words and I think that the single and its video showcase that…”

Mohini Dey comments: "When I first heard Jan's music, my reaction was surprised, shocked… Because I heard how challenging the material was, but also at the same time, how beautiful the writing was. The orchestration and how beautiful the parts were written. It felt like a story, it had meaning to it, every song had something to say…When I hear something that has never been done before, it automatically pushes me to do something better…"

Elements of Allan Holdsworth, Dream Theater, The Aristocrats, and Scott Henderson abound throughout 'Things That Don't Fit', displaying a musical sensitivity and rhythmic guile which marks out this new voice as one to watch. Much like his esteemed predecessor John McLaughlin, Jan displays a strong Indian Classical musical influence, including tabla master Zakir Hussain. For example, compositionally, Jan's musical counting is based upon Konnakol, an Indian rhythmic method of counting metre.

'Things That Don't Fit' is Jan's second single, following the debut release 'The Encounter', featuring Nili Brosh and Marco Minnemann.

Well-regarded in as a music educator, Jan is a graduate of the revered Musicians Institute's Guitar Institute of Technology in Los Angeles, where he studied under Alex Machacek, Greg Howe, and Scott Henderson, among others. His 2014 textbook 'Advanced Rhythmic Concepts for Guitar' was a bestseller, and received rave reviews globally. Jan is an on-set consultant and curriculum designer for Fender Guitars and has taught and performed with Guitar Workshop Plus, which commonly features guitarists such as Tosin Abasi, Paul Gilbert, and Andy McKee, among others.
