New York, USA deathcore band A Wake In Providence have announced their huge new record Eternity, to be released 21st October via Unique Leader Records.

The highly-rated quartet have also streamed their new single, 'The Horror ov the Old Gods', which you can watch here: https://youtu.be/rLRZdYEPQdc

The band comment: "'Eternity is the album I’ve wanted to write for years but the time wasn’t right and now it is. This album is extremely personal and close to us for that exact reason. It tackles some serious issues around mental health that I feel don’t get addressed often and need to be through the lens of dark story. Everything in this album comes directly from experience, such experience that other people should not feel alone in. This is the culmination of all things I have wanted to do from a musical and lyrical standpoint for years and a true testament to patience and perseverance from a time perspective. I’m so excited for this chapter of AWIP with Unique Leader on our side, and want to say thank you to everyone for being patient with us on this journey! We Are Eternity."

Formed in 2010 from unremarkable beginnings, A Wake In Providence diligently grew to become the renowned and otherworldly force they are today. Originally a heavier-than-your-average deathcore act, the band’s debut 2010 demo and 2012 debut EP Serpents saw them infusing a raw and ruthless take on traditional deathcore with contemporary metallic elements to make something sharp enough to cut its way through the thicket of bland, boring heavy music acts. While Serpents gained the band notoriety in their local area, it wasn’t until the release of their sophomore EP, Insidious, that the band went from prodigally talented to true rising stars in the heavy music community. Adding a liberal dose of downtempo deathcore to their instrumental stylings, Insidious earned the band global infamy and critical acclaim, as well as tours with some of the underground’s bigger names-including In Dying Arms, Extortionist and Lorna Shore, as well as several smaller solo runs along the East Coast.

Never ones to remain complacent, A Wake In Providence grew once more in 2016, with the addition of Will Ramos (now with Lorna Shore), but also with their drastic stylistic change, omitting their penchant for low, slow downtempo deathcore in favour of a renewed focus on more aggressive, fast and furious traditional deathcore elements with a razor-sharp technical twist. Combining marvellous metallic riffs with crushing breakdowns and shrill, sinister vocals to create an intense onslaught unlike any other band in the heavy music scene, A Wake In Providence are vile enough to make the sewers look clean, and vicious enough to tear the still-beating heart out of the listener's chest.

Now a quartet with new vocalist Adam Mercer and signing with the legendary Unique Leader Records, A Wake In Providence's status looks set to only rise further.

FLOYA release video for new single 'Weaver'

'Weaver' out now via Arising Empire

German duo FLOYA have released a video for their new single 'Weaver', out now via Arising Empire. Delving into darker territory, the lyrics of 'Weaver' offer a perspective on emotional ambivalence, which contrasts with the band's signature upbeat sound.

Check out the video for 'Weaver' here: https://youtu.be/s3QOOT00JiQ

Stream/purchase 'Weaver' here: https://arisingempire.com/weaver

Vocalist Phil Bayer comments:

"'Weaver' is a very personal song to me, in which I’m opening up about the very real demons haunting almost every artist, including myself. I think it’s nearly impossible to get rid of your shadows completely, this can have a variety of reasons. In my case they’re almost necessary, because of the emotion they cause. While that emotion is mainly hurtful, I’ve learned to use it to create things, it’s fuelling me a lot. I guess it’s all about finding and keeping balance."

Rising from the ashes of ALAZKA and Time, The Valuator, FLOYA blend modern EDM elements with poppy hooks on their previous single 'Wonders'. After carving a name for themselves as the founders and songwriters of their previous acts, Phil and Marv are on a journey of their own, exploring a vast array of genres and following one simple mantra: There are no limits. With this statement engraved on their minds, FLOYA strive to create something bigger than themselves, taking listeners on an unforgettable adventure.

Neofolk outfit Vévaki stream new single, announce album pre-orders

'Gestaþáttr' single / video streaming now

Fórnspeki LP to be released 28th October via Season of Mist

Neofolk outfit Vévaki have released their spellbinding new single, titled 'Gestaþáttr'.

The song is taken from the group's new album Fórnspeki, which will be released 28th October via Season of Mist.

View the video for 'Gestaþáttr' here: https://youtu.be/5aWMF7rIVsg

Pre-orders for Fórnspeki are now available here: https://redirect.season-of-mist.com/vevaki-fornspeki

Originally a solo project by singer and multi-instrumentalist Will Hunter, Vévaki are a folk band which draw from Nordic heathenism and animistic traditions. Myth, ritual and a connection with the natural world inform Vévaki’s music, which is both contemporary in sound and wide-ranging in instrumentation.

Vévaki released their debut album Edda in 2020 - although still a solo project by that point, Edda included contributions from Sigurboði Grétarsson and Florian Baudrain. Taking a collection of Old Norse poetry – the Poetic Edda – as its source material, Edda breathes new life into these stories through its musical journey, at once beautiful and hypnotically heady.

Vévaki’s second album, Fórnspeki, finds the group expanding upon their sound while also staying true to their folk roots and traditions. Sigurboði Grétarsson has now joined Vévaki as a full-time member, alongside Gísli Gunnarsson and Hrafnhildur Inga Guðjónsdóttir. The new material is, says Will Hunter, broader and more mature in sound.

Vévaki is very much based in our modern heathen tradition,” Will notes. “Sigurboði and I had been playing music for a while and we have used music as part of our personal spiritual practise. We had worked on some songs together but they were very much personal. Then we had a jam session in this cave in Iceland and afterwards we tried to record a song. I asked if Sigurboði would feature on it and he said yes, thankfully. Then I went home and used my home recording equipment to do a song which we sent to Danheim (Danish folk musician) and he put me on his online record label. And that’s how Vévaki started. We did a full album from there. Sigurboði featured heavily on it, even though he wasn’t in the band in any official capacity. But he did lots of drums and vocals and stuff like that.”

Vévaki employ various stringed instruments and percussion throughout their music, its dynamics buoyed by the complementary vocal styles of Will, Sigurboði and Hrafnhildur and the cinematic soundscapes sculpted by Gísli Gunnarsson. This comes to the fore on Fórnspeki.

“We decided to go a bit bigger,” says Will. “We started working on the second album and we brought in Gísli, and the sound has changed quite a bit, I think. It’s much more mature now. In my opinion, Gísli is the glue that holds us together. He comes from a modern classical background. And Hrafnhildur was an obvious choice, to add an important female dynamic. Her voice has a healing quality to it, I think, and that’s a big thing with the new album.”

Ritual and spiritual practises provide a structure to Fórnspeki. “Our practice is very animistic,” says Will. “But you don’t have to be a super spiritual person to feel some sort of connection to nature. And we just hope that whoever is listening finds that our music brings some sort of connection for them."

Sigurboði adds, "Fórnspeki was composed around this concept of the ritual and of the performance. There will be a performance and ritual on stage, because that’s how the songs are imagined. And some of the songs came from rituals that we’ve done or have spawned from the rituals. For example, the song ‘Dísablót’ is based around a ritual that we would do. It’s got lots of chants in there that we would do and we hope that other people might be inspired. On this new album we have a lot of original lyrics. But it’s both based in the myth and the practice. It’s not all about the gods but also about the worship and the ritual.”

Vévaki is a fluid and resourceful project, employing traditional and contemporary instrumentation of various origins.

“We’re not going for historical accuracy,” points out Sigurboði. “We’re not married to the idea that it has to be a Nordic instrument. We’re not Vikings. We’re not the Shamans, or the Priests. We are the practitioners, the regular folk making the offerings.”

Adds Will, “We are trying to step away from that whole Viking thing. There are modern songs for modern beliefs. We put a lot of emphasis on that.”

Modern Progressive Metallers Obsidious (ex Obscura) announce new album Iconic; release music video

Credit: Axel Winkler/ Blackened Cult Photography

conic to be released 28th October via Season of Mist

Music video 'Devotion' is streaming now

Modern progressive metallers Obsidious, featuring ex-members of Obscura, have announced the details of their forthcoming full-length debut album Iconic, set for release on the 28th October via Season of Mist.
Pre-order Iconic here: https://orcd.co/obsidious-iconic
Alongside the announcement of their debut album, the band have released a music video for their single 'Devotion' which is taken from the upcoming album; which can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/uO0h6D3-Z-U

The new song is the fifth single to be released from Iconic, following on from 'Under Black Skies', 'Sense Of Lust', 'Iconic' and 'Bound By Fire'.

Obsidious comment on the single: “This song is about cults, basing the story on one of the most controversial cases of the late 1970s. In this song there are two distinct voices that reflect the character of each of the protagonists: the raspy voice of the cult leader and the melodic, desperate voice of the follower trying to flee the place.”

Wonderfully intricate and musically-accomplished, Iconic is technical but not officious. The group—featuring Linus Klausenitzer (bass), Rafael Trujillo (guitars), Sebastian Lanser (drums), and Javi Perera (vocals)—come from distinguished and lettered origins in Obscura, Alkaloid, Eternity’s End, and Juggernaut. Obsidious, however, are a different creature entirely.

Obsidious crystallised after Klausenitzer, Trujillo, and Lanser departed amicably from fellow German tech-metallers Obscura in 2020. Named after black volcanic glass, the group’s moniker exudes something dark, of fiery origin, in a state of final transformation. Metaphorically, the name Obsidious offers a nearly limitless platform for expression and advancement. However, it was only when the trio brought on newcomer Perera—whose growls and full-toned voice are first-rate—were the multi-national outfit officially codified. Interestingly enough, the newly-joined frontman couldn’t even meet his bandmates while the band wrote, recorded, and filmed videos for Iconic due to the pandemic. Yet, the technologically-apt foursome made it work.

“We consider ourselves the modern evolution of progressive and technical metal,” bassist Linus Klausenitzer says. “To name a few bands: Dream Theater, Devin Townsend, Meshuggah, Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, Protest the Hero, Periphery, and Haken. As such, our music asks for many different moods and vibes. Javi’s vocals reinforce that idea, adding meaning and drama to it. While we still work as session musicians, Obsidious is now our main priority.”

Throughout Iconic, Obsidious impress with their artistic inventiveness and creative expanse. The album breathes intensity but expands upon it with mellifluent dexterity. With Obsidious, there’s always a hook. The early release of and positive feedback from previous video singles illustrates these qualities well. Iconic builds upon a prestigious foundation, but its vision isn’t restricted to its tenets.

“This album does not have a concept per se in terms of lyrics or an underlying storyline,” vocalist Javi Perera comments. “The songs on this album touch on subjects of diverse nature, and there are even some songs that narrate personal experiences. But what I can consider as a common denominator in the album is the absence of constraints on a compositional or stylistic level, allowing us the freedom to shift between different musical genres as long as the song requires it. I always consider that we, as artists and musicians, are at the service of the music and not the other way around.”

Obisidious are ready to deploy their unique brand of hooky neoteric metal on Iconic. From Trujillo’s wickedly clever riffs and Lanser’s artful drumming to Klausenitzer’s superb counterpoint and Perera’s soaring vocals/venomous spits, songs like 'Under Black Skies,' 'Iconic,' 'Bound by Fire,' and 'Nowhere' brim with cool calculation and aggressive spontaneity. They storm normality not only musically and lyrically. The monolithic cover piece by French graphic artist Adrien Bousson (Rotting Christ, Khonsu) also transcends convention. Obsidious are poised for a breakthrough on Iconic. Prepare for metal’s modern metamorphosis!

AVIANA tackle substance abuse in 'Paradox' ft. Invent Animate's Marcus Vik

Corporation album out 16th September via Arising Empire

'Paradox' video out now

Swedish alternative metal act AVIANA have released a video for new single 'Paradox', a track that tackles the stigmatised topic of substance abuse. 'Paradox' also features guest vocals from AVIANA's former vocalist and Invent Animate's current singer Marcus Vik. New album Corporation is due out 16th September via Arising Empire.

Watch the video to 'Paradox' here: https://youtu.be/4TtwINmoBG4
Stream here: arisingempire.com/paradox

Pre-orders for Corporation available soon.

On the new single, vocalist Joel Holqvist explains:

"Being in a state where you’re trapped in self-medication is hard to get out of. It feels like there’s nothing else that can help you besides the substances you abuse, as you're being drawn to like-minded people who keep dragging you down the rabbit hole. I wrote this song to lift that subject and help others that have experienced the same thing. Once you are in that spiral that keeps going down and feels like a bad dream, it feels like a paradox."

AVIANA made a big impact on the global metalcore scene with their return in February 2021. Led solely by vocalist Joel Holmqvist as a consequence of past members leaving the band, Holmqvist has exceed all expectations and taken the band further down the path for greatness.

One of the band's previous singles, 'Obsession', released in January made it into the headlines, placing the band at the number one spot on Spotify's biggest Metalcore playlist New Core and later on also featured on the Top Of The Core playlist on the same platform. Being picked up by all major digital streaming platforms such as Apple Music, Amazon Music, Youtube Music and Deezer affirms the band as one of the most important in their scene.

'Paradox' follows previous singles 'Anomaly', 'Obsession', 'Transcendent', 'Rage', 'Oblivion', 'Overcome' and 'Retaliation'.

Speaking on the album, Holmqvist concludes:

"There is an album coming in September, finally. But I never wanted to have people sit around and wait for new AVIANA music. Instead I’ve been working continuously to try and get new stuff out there for the fans. You should consider this album more of an ‘Collection of Singles’ rather than something else. There will be new songs on the album which haven’t been released yet, but also songs that we’ve already put out since 2021 will be on the album.”

Crippled Black Phoenix release single 'Bonefire'

Banefyre album out 9th September 2022 via Season of Mist

Crippled Black Phoenix are proud to unveil the third new track, 'Bonefire', taken from the upcoming album Banefyre. The new full-length is set for worldwide release on 9th September 2022 via Season of Mist.

Listen to the track here: https://youtu.be/FLvkB67NVTc

Vocalist / percussionist Belinda Kordic comments: "'Bonefire' is targeted at the politicians, who’re some of the wealthiest people around, and also the most un-empathetic sons of bitches towards the poorest and most vulnerable in our society. These people in government have the power to change things around, make a difference, but they choose not to. It’s an ideological choice they make. The bottom line is.. these people just don’t give a hoot about anything but themselves. They are not all bad. But there sure are some rotten eggs. Chuck em on a fire of bones and let them contemplate on their actions for a while.

Ps! No politicians were hurt during the making of this song."

Band leader Justin Greaves comments: "This song makes so much sense to me. When Belinda told me what it’s about and sent me the lyrics, I saw how pissed off she is at the way things are with the ruling class. And so am I. And so are a lot of people. I mean, the song was written two years ago, and it was bad then, but now, especially here in the UK it has reached a new low when it comes to the massive class divide and the utter contempt the dumb government scumbags show to people. The people who are supposed to be taken care of. I personally think we should burn the whole damn political system down. Throw the politicians on the fire and cleanse the energy of the world."

The band recently released their newest single 'Eye of Storm' with an accompanying music video directed by Sam Sharpiro, available to watch here: https://youtu.be/U9jGRtmCsNQ

The rock track is a powerful number that conveys the chaos of a hurricane through dark, electric instrumentals with a pummelling, chaotic metal maelstrom that contains an uplifting message at its centre. The video is an allegory of the song’s meaning and paints a picture of the storm with rapid, flashing lights and rain flooding the scene.

Pop Evil have massive anthems and built a new rock’n’roll institution on a foundation of showmanship, raw relatability, and hard rock hooks, both forward-thinking and timeless from frontman, Leigh Kakaty, lead guitarist Nick Fuelling, rhythm guitarist Dave Grahs, bassist Joey "Chicago" Walser and drummer Hayley Cramer. No matter the headline-grabbing declarations from legendary icons, lamenting the changing of the guard, the slow-burning success of Pop Evil demonstrates the hunger for hard-hitting honest music persisting worldwide.

Their 2011 album, War of Angels debuted at #8 on Billboard Top Rock Albums with three singles landing on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Top 10 including 'Last Man Standing', 'Monster You Made' and 'Boss’s Daughter.' The momentum continued with their 2013 album Onyx, landing them on the Top 40 of the Billboard 200 for the first time, plus it was #9 on the Billboard Independent Albums in America and #25 on the Billboard 200. The album included three #1 Billboard Mainstream Rock singles with 'Trenches' 'Deal with the Devil' and 'Torn to Pieces.' In 2015, the band released their album, UP, which would make its way to #1 on Billboard Independent Albums, with four Top 5 Billboard Singles such as 'Ways to Get High,' 'Take It All,' and 'If Only for Now'. The hit single, 'Footsteps' is still one of the biggest songs to date and returned Pop Evil to Billboard’s #1 spot for four weeks. Their 2018 self-titled album landed three singles on Billboard Mainstream Rock, 'Waking Lions' at #1 with 'Be Legendary' peaking at #2, and 'A Crime to Remember' peaking at #7. Pop Evil just celebrated their 7th career #1 single in late 2021 with 'Survivor' on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Chart marking a historic milestone. 'Survivor' joins the previous Top 10 single 'Work,' and #1 single 'Breathe Again,' from their album VERSATILE, out now via MNRK Heavy. Over the course of their career, the band has achieved four gold singles with 'Torn to Pieces,' and 'Trenches' from Onyx, 'Footsteps' from UP and, '100 in a 55' from their debut studio album, Lipstick on the Mirror.

German alt-rock duo Kill Strings release video for new single 'Black Gold'

Debut album LIMBO out 23rd September 2022 via MNRK Music Group

German alt-rock duo Kill Strings have released a video for their new single 'Black Gold'. The track is another taste of the band's upcoming debut album LIMBO, due for release on 23rd September via MNRK Music Group.

Check out the video for 'Black Gold' here: https://youtu.be/9di0xszr7qw

Stream/purchase 'Black Gold' here: https://lnk.to/kill-strings-black-gold

Dipping into their array of influences, 'Black Gold' alternates magnificently between airy grooves in the verses to Kill Strings' epic, signature choruses. Watching the accompanying video, you may assume that the duo were fed the 'Deep Field' footage from the James Webb telescope some time ago: distant galaxies in the firmament, planetary nebulae, and twinkling stars. The sky panorama fits perfectly with the song.

With hard-hitting appearances at Germany's Open Flair Festival, the Oakfield and Hurricane Festival, as well as two successful EPs, Kill Strings have already garnered support from a variety of playlists including 'Rock Rotation', Germany's most popular rock playlist on Spotify.

Now comes the next step, their debut album LIMBO. Produced by Frieder Does (Blackout Problems, Antiheld), LIMBO unfolds in its perfect beauty. Singles 'Let Me Dream' and 'Navigation' hint at what's to come with a blend of alternative rock and epic pop, sometimes cinematically wide, sometimes with intense reduction. 'Orange Lilies' flickers between stirring anthem and intense calm, 'Whatever It Takes' wires dark moods with sky-high melodic arcs, 'Evermore' and 'Black Gold' groove like hell and 'Monster' combines thick beats, casual backings and features a stadium chorus worthy of the repeat button.

Kill Strings have picked up speed and the sky is the limit. Have you reached your destination?

Heilung release new single 'Tenet'

Another glimpse of new album Drif, to be released 19th August via Season of Mist

Pre-orders available now

Ritual music collective Heilung have unveiled their new single 'Tenet', another glimpse of their upcoming new full-length Drif, to be released 19th August via Season of Mist.

Stream here: https://youtu.be/BOAixAjugUQ

The group comment on the new single:

“Our third single release is a palindrome. All individual musical parts, melodies and instruments (and even at times the lyrics) play the same both forward and backwards. The song is based on the “Sator Square”, the earliest datable two-dimensional palindrome, first found in Herculaneum (Italy), a city buried under the ashes of the erupting Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, at that time part of the flourishing Roman Empire. What is particularly interesting with this palindrome is that not only does it read forwards and backwards but also vertically in both directions.

S A T O R

A R E P O

T E N E T

O P E R A

R O T A S

The unusual melody of the piece is created with a special code system employing numbers, runes and Latin letters taken from the square itself, and deciphered in a complicated system to give birth to
Heilung’s first melodic palindrome. Love from Heilung."

Heilung means "healing" in the German language, and aptly describes the core of the band's sound. The 'amplified history' trio reach back into our collective past to present a truly immersive experience, leaving the listener at ease and in a relaxed state, after a magical musical journey that is at times turbulent.

Heilung reach far back in time to the Northern European Iron Age and Viking period to create the foundations of their sonic experience. The band utilises many means in their songs: from running water via human bones, reconstructed swords and shields up to ancient frame drums as well as bronze rings. It’s difficult to simply categorise a band that uses such a variety of influences, traditions, and instruments to create immersive soundscapes. Hence, the group settled on the description 'amplified history' to best describe their music.

When Heilung self-released Ofnir in 2015, the Danish band could hardly have anticipated the breakthrough success of their debut album. Spectacular live shows, strong critical acclaim, and a massive underground buzz added to the constantly high demand for this full-length led to Heilung’s new label Season of Mist re-issuing Ofnir in several collector's edition formats. Heilung's live album, LIFA (2017) was released in parallel.

The visionary three-piece continued gathering praise with their latest full-length Futha, released in 2019 which debuted at #3 on the Billboard Heatseeker charts and #4 on the Billboard World Music Charts in the United States, placing on a total of seven Billboard charts within the first week of its release. For the single 'Norupo' a music video was filmed at the Neolithic standing stones at Les Menhirs de Monteneuf in France, which can be viewed HERE.

The band’s music has been widely used in pop culture and transcends the traditional genre boundaries in music. Not only did leading television broadcaster HBO use their music in the trailer for the hit series Game of Thrones, Heilung’s sounds can also be heard in series like Vikings and Ragnarök on Netflix, as well as in the trailer for 2022's blockbuster The Northman.

Furthermore, the group has been collaborating with game studios for the soundtrack of several mainstream video games. In 2020, gaming company Ninja Theory and Heilung started to work on the soundtrack for their upcoming game, 'Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II.' The announcement trailer for the new game features Heilung's song 'In Maidjan,' which is taken from their debut album, Ofnir. Watch the trailer HERE.

Later, Heilung was invited to join in another video game collaboration with MY.GAMES and Booming Tech for the new season of the 'Conqueror's Blade' video game, 'VII: "Wolves of Ragnarok." The trailer for the game, featuring the track 'Galgaldr', can be found HERE. Heilung will also see their name being immortalised in one of the new combat map locations, which is now officially called ‘Heilung Fjord,’ and serves as a place for healing.

While the world came to a stop during the pandemic, the three-piece retreated into the studio to write and record the forthcoming album Drif. In classic Heilung fashion, all sounds are hand-crafted organically by the group. To create Drif, Heilung sought for forgotten songs, hand-crafted ancient instruments, and transcribed dead languages to spread messages of love and nature-respect. Drif will be Heilung's most immersive and successful work to date.

In their own words:

Drif means “gathering”. A throng of people, a horde, a crowd, a pack. In symbiosis with the album title, Drif consists of a flock, a collection, a gathering, a collage of songs, that much like little flames were seeking towards each other, to join, to bond, to create, and be greater together. This album has very clearly dictated its own path. Our attempts to tame it was repeatedly fruitless and once we came to this realisation, the creative flow surged forward with immense force. So much so that sometimes it felt like the songs wrote themselves. All the songs on Drif have their own stories. They have each their place and sense of belonging, with inspiration not only from Northern Europe, but from the ancient great civilisations.”
