New UK hardcore group Skin Failure (ex-Black Peaks) reveal new video for 'Meat Pond' single

New progressive thrash/hardcore group Skin Failure have revealed their new video for 'Meat Pond', the first visual treat of their out-of-this-world debut album Radillac, which will be released 11th November via Small Pond.

The single, which features guest vocals from Charlie Davis of Wasted Death and Beggar, can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTEKUMbqhQ8

Pre-order / stream Radillac here: https://listen.smallpondrec.com/meat-river

Skin Failure comment on 'Meat Pond': "One of our favourites, this track came together super-fast when we were writing and then in the studio and it was a total joy to have Charlie (Davis) (Wasted Death / Beggar) come and guest with us. He really added some gnarly f**king character to the choruses and then the part in seven just sounds beastly with both Will and Charlie's voices."

A concept album, Radillac tells the story of an interdimensional 'Jesus', flung into amphetamine-powered wormhole and travelling through time and space. 'Meat Pond', track three from the record, has our 'Jesus' finding himself in 1980s London, meeting a godlike Jeff Bridges and training in a Matrix-style montage.

This is not your everyday album, then. A full-throttle, high-psychedelia record, Radillac is the sound of a band having as much fun as is inhumanly possible. Elements as disparate as Every Time I Die, Mastodon, and Slayer clash and combine to thrilling effect, with a bonus guest feature from UK comedy legend Ed Gamble on track four's 'Remy LeBeau's Big Pile of Bones'.

Forming in 2021 after a few years of riff-gathering, Skin Failure's thrilling debut is testament to the limitless talent of the group: Will Gardner (vocals), Paul Stallan (guitar), Toby Stewart (guitar), Dave Larkin (bass), and Sam Simpson (drums). Skin Failure will make their live debut at ArcTanGent 2022.

Bay Area, California’s reigning kings of heavy hardcore first stormed into the scene in 2007 with their debut album: The Will To Survive. Taking influence from bands like Blood For Blood, and Madball; LIONHEART came out swinging with a full-blown assault of blistering metallic hardcore. They quickly followed it up with 2010’s Built On Struggle, 2012’s Undisputed and years of non-stop touring.

Following a short break after their release Undisputed, the band came back stronger than ever with 2014’s Welcome To The Westcoast. The album debuted at #1 on both iTunes Metal and GooglePlay Metal Charts. LIONHEART stormed into the scene again in January 2016 with Love Don’t Live Here. The album title, a nod to a classic R&B/ Motown Song by the same name, shows the band's unwillingness to conform to the typical hardcore mould, as well as the bitter and unforgiving lyrical content the band is known for. November 2017 saw LIONHEART unleash Welcome To The Westcoast II. A sequel to Welcome To The Westcoast (2014), the album brought forth a new era in California Hardcore, and saw them again debut at #1 across the iTunes Metal Charts and Google Play Metal Charts.

2019, after endless touring around the globe, LIONHEART returned with their most punishing album to date: Valley Of Death. Backed by a combination of blistering metallic hardcore and heavy West Coast groove, front-man Rob Watson provides an insight into a life of torment, violence, and an unrelenting will to overcome. With Valley Of Death LIONHEART climbed into the German Top 20 Album Charts, as well as #1 on iTunes Metal Charts and Google Play Metal Charts.

Hyper-melodic, epic rock trio LostAlone have released their new single 'Time Goes Fast When You're Having Fun (So For A Long Life You Best Have None)'. Battelle explains:

“It's a chaotically relentless song, racing desperately to leave its mark in the quickest but most coherent way possible, before collapsing under its own weight. It's dealing head on with the conversations in my mind that are continuously tormenting me, vying for my attention with a mission to ruin me.

"I’m talking about climate change in both the planet sense and, at the same time, in my mind - both of which are seriously damaged and in trouble."

LostAlone will conclude 2022 with a UK headline tour, with special guests Fort Hope. Dates are as follows:

09.12.22 - London, Boston Music Room
10.12.22 - Bristol, The Lanes
12.12.22 - Manchester, Star & Garter

LostAlone surprised fans with their return in March, eight years since they originally split, announcing a run of shows supporting My Chemical Romance, as well as a hometown headline show which subsequently sold-out. The band's fourth album, The Warring Twenties, marks their first full-length since 2014's Shapes of Screams.

A personal dystopia, The Warring Twenties was written and produced by frontman Steven BattelleLostAlone called upon a variety of friends to mix the songs: Greg Wells (The Greatest Showman, Deftones, Twenty One Pilots), Rou Reynolds (Enter Shikari),  Adam Noble (Biffy Clyro, Placebo, Liam Gallagher) and Rich Collins.

Battelle comments: "Unbelievably this has been the most geographically diverse of anything we’ve done. Whilst isolating in my apartment during lockdowns, the record owes its existence to remote work in London, Derby, Los Angeles, Nottingham, Glasgow, Hastings and New York."

Solo guitarist Morgan Reid channels early rap influences with new single and video 'Djinn & Juice'

Up-and-coming solo shred guitarist Morgan Reid has shared his new single 'Djinn & Juice'; a progressive, instrumental metal piece in which the Bloodshot Dawn axeman attempts to channel gangster rap influences from his Toronto youth.

Stream 'Djinn & Juice' here: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/morganreid/djinn--juice-2

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/OJouI6d3Z6Y

Morgan comments: "Having grown up in Toronto in the 90s and 2000s, an inevitable influence and fundamental part of my musical vocabulary has always been gangster rap. To this day, I partially accredit my love of aggressive metal music to those early influences. I spent a lot of time trying to write raps of my own around the age of 12, and it was a fantastic step into the world of rhythm and music. This track is about being one with that tough yet ambient, laid back vibe. Listen as I do my best to channel some magic and sift it through my instrumental modern metal style. Although it’s a first, the final product is undoubtedly me, as it retains all the usual elements - it’s packed with progressive riffs, melodic choruses and extreme/technical solos. The parallels between rap and metal aren’t always apparent, but they live in my musical DNA and I hope you can appreciate the spellbinding fusion that is 'Djinn & Juice'."

'Djinn & Juice' is taken from Morgan's long-awaited debut album Terran, to be released 25th November. The project is supported by Initiative Musik gGmbH with project funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media.

Born in Toronto, Canada, Morgan is well-known for his fierce technical shredding, slamming riffs, bombastic windmills and his expressive, melodic lead lines.

Known as guitarist for tech-death outfit Bloodshot DawnMorgan has been at the pinnacle of the guitar world for a good number of years already. Now a JTC guitarist, Morgan made it to the top 5 of Per Nilsson's Guitar Messenger Contest in 2013, alongside Plini, and with his first live performance garnered praise at Guitar Idol 4 in 2014.

Soon after Morgan joined Bloodshot Dawn, following the departure of Benjamin Ellis, who left to join Scar Symmetry. His first ever gig with the band was a sweaty one, the aptly named Incineration Fest in London, which preceded Morgan's first tour of Japan with the band.

In following years Morgan has toured with the likes of DecapitatedVirvumFleshgod Apocalyse, and across Canada, Japan and Europe. With Bloodshot Dawn Morgan has also performed at HellfestBloodstockHammerfest and Metaldays, among others.

Beside music, Morgan is also a professional dancer and choreographer. Having moved to Europe at the age of 18 to enrol in a prestigious dance program, Morgan's dance has been integral to his development as a composer and songwriter. His skills as a dancer, and beyond as a yoga enthusiast and martial artist, have helped him develop his own unique, dynamic style with the instrument through years of practice and research.

Nordic folk outfit Vévaki release stunning new single / video 'Heimdalagaldr'

Nordic folk band Vévaki have released their new single and stunning music video 'Heimdalagaldr', taken from the group's new album Fórnspeki, which will be released 28th October via Season of Mist.

Created by Dániel Puskás (Valhallartworks), watch the video on the official Season of Mist Youtube Channel here: https://youtu.be/NFA1-9d7RhE

Vévaki comment on the single: "'Heimdalagaldr' is our nod to the lost Eddic poem of the same name, of which we only have two surviving lines.. "Níu em ek mæðra mavgr, níu em ek systra sonur. I am born of nine mothers, I am the son of nine sisters.”"

Pre-orders for Fórnspeki are now available here: https://redirect.season-of-mist.com/vevaki-fornspeki

The album can be pre-saved here: https://orcd.co/vevaki-fornspeki

Originally a solo project by singer and multi-instrumentalist Will Hunter, Vévaki are a folk band which draw from Nordic heathenism and animistic traditions. Myth, ritual and a connection with the natural world inform Vévaki’s music, which is both contemporary in sound and wide-ranging in instrumentation.

Vévaki released their debut album Edda in 2020 - although still a solo project by that point, Edda included contributions from Sigurboði Grétarsson and Florian Baudrain. Taking a collection of Old Norse poetry – the Poetic Edda – as its source material, Edda breathes new life into these stories through its musical journey, at once beautiful and hypnotically heady.

Vévaki’s second album, Fórnspeki, finds the group expanding upon their sound while also staying true to their folk roots and traditions. Sigurboði Grétarsson has now joined Vévaki as a full-time member, alongside Gísli Gunnarsson and Hrafnhildur Inga Guðjónsdóttir. The new material is, says Will Hunter, broader and more mature in sound.

Vévaki is very much based in our modern heathen tradition,” Will notes. “Sigurboði and I had been playing music for a while and we have used music as part of our personal spiritual practise. We had worked on some songs together but they were very much personal. Then we had a jam session in this cave in Iceland and afterwards we tried to record a song. I asked if Sigurboði would feature on it and he said yes, thankfully. Then I went home and used my home recording equipment to do a song which we sent to Danheim (Danish folk musician) and he put me on his online record label. And that’s how Vévaki started. We did a full album from there. Sigurboði featured heavily on it, even though he wasn’t in the band in any official capacity. But he did lots of drums and vocals and stuff like that.”

Vévaki employ various stringed instruments and percussion throughout their music, its dynamics buoyed by the complementary vocal styles of Will, Sigurboði and Hrafnhildur and the cinematic soundscapes sculpted by Gísli Gunnarsson. This comes to the fore on Fórnspeki.

“We decided to go a bit bigger,” says Will. “We started working on the second album and we brought in Gísli, and the sound has changed quite a bit, I think. It’s much more mature now. In my opinion, Gísli is the glue that holds us together. He comes from a modern classical background. And Hrafnhildur was an obvious choice, to add an important female dynamic. Her voice has a healing quality to it, I think, and that’s a big thing with the new album.”

Ritual and spiritual practises provide a structure to Fórnspeki. “Our practice is very animistic,” says Will. “But you don’t have to be a super spiritual person to feel some sort of connection to nature. And we just hope that whoever is listening finds that our music brings some sort of connection for them."

Sigurboði adds, "Fórnspeki was composed around this concept of the ritual and of the performance. There will be a performance and ritual on stage, because that’s how the songs are imagined. And some of the songs came from rituals that we’ve done or have spawned from the rituals. For example, the song ‘Dísablót’ is based around a ritual that we would do. It’s got lots of chants in there that we would do and we hope that other people might be inspired. On this new album we have a lot of original lyrics. But it’s both based in the myth and the practice. It’s not all about the gods but also about the worship and the ritual.”

Vévaki is a fluid and resourceful project, employing traditional and contemporary instrumentation of various origins.

“We’re not going for historical accuracy,” points out Sigurboði. “We’re not married to the idea that it has to be a Nordic instrument. We’re not Vikings. We’re not the Shamans, or the Priests. We are the practitioners, the regular folk making the offerings.”

Adds Will, “We are trying to step away from that whole Viking thing. There are modern songs for modern beliefs. We put a lot of emphasis on that.”

Vévaki are:

Will Hunter: Vocals, lyre, taglharpa, drums, pontian lyra

Profound Morality is out now via Church Road Records, available here: https://bfan.link/profound-morality

HERIOT are a blistering, vicious, visceral new group, having made their mark with their titanic singles 'Dispirit', 'Recreant', 'Cleansed Existence', ‘Near Vision/Enter the Flesh’, as well as their monstrous cover of Machine Head's 'Ten Ton Hammer' over the course of 2021.

The band’s output across the last year has led to heads being turned across the metal world, all blown away by HERIOT’s unrelenting take on the new heavy. Fully-focused and with a razor-sharp edge, the awe-inspiring double-vocal attack of Jake Packer and Debbie Gough on vocals is all-conquering; the titanic support of Erhan Alman (guitar) and Julian Gage (drums) rock-solid.

Profound Morality reflects different aspects of human behaviour in our modern society. How far people push their moral boundaries to achieve what they want; outdated modes of living and beliefs that harm our contemporary life; life and death and how fulfilment can be achieved, be that helping or hurting peers; and how this shapes tyrants of industry, and a clear separation of class and wealth.

HERIOT have deservedly been grabbing attention with all four pairs of hands, weaponising metallic sludge and hardcore, unholy levels of distortion, speed and gut-punching talent. Elements of NailsKnocked LooseCode Orange, and Vein combine and collide to exhilarating new effect, to create a new sound that is truly groundbreaking, fully worthy of the notice the band are achieving.

In their short recent history HERIOT have caught the attention of Metal Hammer, Rock Sound, Brooklyn Vegan, Kerrang!, Revolver, and Knotfest, among many others. Acclaimed as "one of the most promising young bands in modern metalcore", HERIOT have supported Rolo Tomassi and Svalbard on their respective UK tours, and performed at Download2000treesBloodstockArcTanGent and more in 2022.
