It’s safe to say that Aiming For Enrike’s fame has come mostly thanks to their frenetic, wild and engaging live shows – having toured extensively in USA, India, Japan, Czech Republic, Norway, England and Germany for several years. Recently the duo have performed at the UK's esteemed ArcTanGent Festival, released an acclaimed Audiotree session, and toured with modern prog titans Leprous.

Previously known for noisy musical transformations and frenetic sonic attacks, Empty Airports marks a significant tonal shift for Aiming For Enrike. More electronic, more atmospheric and massive, the new album delves more deeply in the world of ambient than ever before.

A reflection and recognition of the stillness of COVID-life, Empty Airports was recorded during the strange, silent lockdown months of 2020 and 2021. The most spacious of Aiming For Enrike's work so far released, Empty Airports is also the duo's longest record, and their first double album.

Taking influence variously from the likes of Nils Frahm, Burial, Jon Hopkins, Sunn O))), Empty Airports' title touches on the stopped nature of the COVID world, a sense of the post-apocalyptic, and is a tip of the hat to Brian Eno's Music for Airports record.

Another stellar release in the canon of an already well-regarded forward-thinking group, Empty Airports proves beyond doubt that Aiming For Enrike live entirely in their own universe.

Hard rock group Pop Evil announce new album Skeletons

Hard rock group Pop Evil have announced their new album, Skeletons, due 17th March 2023 via MNRK Heavy, along with US, UK and EU tour dates. The band have also unveiled a video for their single 'Paranoid (Crash & Burn)'.

Watch the video to 'Paranoid (Crash & Burn)' here: https://youtu.be/KMTrh8xRXtk

 Pre-order Skeletons here: https://popevil.ffm.to/skeletons

The 11-tracks feature the already released singles: 'Eye of the Storm' landing at the #5 Most Played Song in 2022 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Chart, and the most recent single, 'Paranoid (Crash & Burn).' The album also includes guest performers such as Ryan Kirby from Fit for a King on 'Dead Reckoning' - a song brought to the table by bassist, Joey “Chicago” Walser - plus Blake Allison from Devour the Day providing guest vocals on 'Wrong Direction.'

Discussing the album, frontman Leigh Kakaty said, “This is about us as a band stripping everything down to the bones. It’s more up-tempo, it’s got bigger riffs, and we’re trying to capture the energy of our live show.

“But it’s also a positive message, I know it’s a morbid visual, but behind every skeleton, there’s a story and something worth talking about. Overall, it’s about looking at something in a positive way. And I’m excited for everyone to hear that.”

The first single, 'Eye of the Storm,' is a pummelling, chaotic maelstrom with an uplifting message at its centre (and a killer chorus). As for the song's lyrical plea, Kakaty explains: "It doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from, at some point we all face a situation beyond our control. At times, it feels hopeless, but it’s not. There is a path through the chaos and a way out of the confusion. You are stronger and closer than you think you are. The storm will pass. Don’t let it bury you.”

Their most recent single, 'Paranoid (Crash & Burn),' oscillates from something more melodic and rhythmic to pure aggression, that 'get out of my head' scream is certainly going to resonate. “It’s about the voices in our head — we all have ‘em, but do we act on them?” says Kakaty. “It’s a cautionary tale, about processing those voices in a positive way."

Skeletons see the band once again working with producer Drew Fulk (Disturbed, Papa Roach, Motionless in White), a friend and collaborator on a few previous albums that generated hits. “With  Versatile, we had a bunch of producers, but for this album, we just wanted to work with one person and get back to our roots,” says Kakaty. “There’s an energy he and I have, and he’s been great at helping us build these songs and work around some collective themes.”

The band partnered with Heart Support to spread awareness about mental health by giving away custom shows created by bassist Joey “Chicago” Walser - enter by 12th December to qualify. Pop Evil said, “We all have voices in our head that tell us lies. They say things like “I’m not good enough”, “I’m alone”, “Things will never get better. These voices have the power to stop us in our tracks if we don’t fight them. We know that the first step in quieting these voices is sharing them with others and receiving encouragement.”

Pop Evil have announced their rescheduled UK/EU headline tour. Catch them on the following dates with Call Me Amour and Zillion in support.

May 06: UK Birmingham Institute 2

Pop Evil have massive anthems and built a new rock’n’roll institution on a foundation of showmanship, raw relatability, and hard rock hooks, both forward-thinking and timeless from frontman, Leigh Kakaty, lead guitarist Nick Fuelling, rhythm guitarist Dave Grahs, bassist Joey "Chicago" Walser and drummer Hayley Cramer. No matter the headline-grabbing declarations from legendary icons, lamenting the changing of the guard, the slow-burning success of Pop Evil demonstrates the hunger for hard-hitting honest music persisting worldwide.

Their 2011 album, War of Angels debuted at #8 on Billboard Top Rock Albums with three singles landing on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Top 10 including 'Last Man Standing', 'Monster You Made' and 'Boss’s Daughter.' The momentum continued with their 2013 album Onyx, landing them on the Top 40 of the Billboard 200 for the first time, plus it was #9 on the Billboard Independent Albums in America and #25 on the Billboard 200. The album included three #1 Billboard Mainstream Rock singles with 'Trenches' 'Deal with the Devil' and 'Torn to Pieces.' In 2015, the band released their album, UP, which would make its way to #1 on Billboard Independent Albums, with four Top 5 Billboard Singles such as 'Ways to Get High,' 'Take It All,' and 'If Only for Now'. The hit single, 'Footsteps' is still one of the biggest songs to date and returned Pop Evil to Billboard’s #1 spot for four weeks. Their 2018 self-titled album landed three singles on Billboard Mainstream Rock, 'Waking Lions' at #1 with 'Be Legendary' peaking at #2, and 'A Crime to Remember' peaking at #7. Pop Evil just celebrated their 7th career #1 single in late 2021 with 'Survivor' on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Chart marking a historic milestone. 'Survivor' joins the previous Top 10 single 'Work,' and #1 single 'Breathe Again,' from their album VERSATILE, out now via MNRK Heavy. Over the course of their career, the band has achieved four gold singles with 'Torn to Pieces,' and 'Trenches' from Onyx, 'Footsteps' from UP and, '100 in a 55' from their debut studio album, Lipstick on the Mirror.

Bay Area, California’s reigning kings of heavy hardcore first stormed into the scene in 2007 with their debut album: The Will To Survive. Taking influence from bands like Blood For Blood, and Madball; LIONHEART came out swinging with a full-blown assault of blistering metallic hardcore. They quickly followed it up with 2010’s Built On Struggle, 2012’s Undisputed and years of non-stop touring.

Following a short break after their release Undisputed, the band came back stronger than ever with 2014’s Welcome To The Westcoast. The album debuted at #1 on both iTunes Metal and GooglePlay Metal Charts. LIONHEART stormed into the scene again in January 2016 with Love Don’t Live Here. The album title, a nod to a classic R&B/ Motown Song by the same name, shows the band's unwillingness to conform to the typical hardcore mould, as well as the bitter and unforgiving lyrical content the band is known for. November 2017 saw LIONHEART unleash Welcome To The Westcoast II. A sequel to Welcome To The Westcoast (2014), the album brought forth a new era in California Hardcore, and saw them again debut at #1 across the iTunes Metal Charts and Google Play Metal Charts.

2019, after endless touring around the globe, LIONHEART returned with their most punishing album to date: Valley Of Death. Backed by a combination of blistering metallic hardcore and heavy West Coast groove, front-man Rob Watson provides an insight into a life of torment, violence, and an unrelenting will to overcome. With Valley Of Death LIONHEART climbed into the German Top 20 Album Charts, as well as #1 on iTunes Metal Charts and Google Play Metal Charts.

Time, The Valuator release video for new single 'Binary Pulse'

German modern heavy quintet Time, The Valuator have released a video for their new single 'Binary Pulse. The track is the fourth glimpse into the band's upcoming album, due for release in spring 2023 via Long Branch Records

Check out the video for 'Binary Pulse' here: https://youtu.be/-exZjTf-uG0

Stream 'Binary Pulse' here: https://orcd.co/timethevaluator_binarypulse

The band comment on the new single:

"'Binary Pulse' illustrates thoughts, feelings, fears and hopes of a humanoid machine, from the moment its logical procedures start to traverse through an unforeseeable amount of cycles, effectively identical to a human mind. The machine is self-aware, yet there’s a lack of something substantial to experiencing the 'feeling' of identity, something uncanny beyond the visible and tangible."

With songs full of emotion, powerful vocals and infectious groove, Time, The Valuator have risen to become one of the most promising new acts in the modern rock sphere. The German quintet impresses not only with their music but also with their message. In the words of guitarist Rene Möllenbeck"Time, The Valuator strive to create something to be remembered."

Drawing on elements of progressive metal, alternative rock, djent and pop, Time, The Valuator create a unique sound that pushes genre boundaries and touches emotionally. Their 2018 debut album, How Fleeting, How Fragile (Long Branch Records), received international critical acclaim and singles like 'Elusive Reasons', 'When I Meet Death' or 'Vibrant' have since been streamed millions of times.

Time, The Valuator are currently working hard on their new album, exploring the humanisation of machines and the mechanisation of humans. Fans can expect the record to arrive in spring 2023.

Time, The Valuator are:

Daniel Moczarski (vocals, songwriting, co-production)
Rene Möllenbeck (guitars, keys, songwriting, co-production)
Cedric Dreyszas (guitars, songwriting)
Ryan Voosen (bass, co-songwriting, co-production)

These will be Casey's only UK and Germany headline shows of 2023.

The quintet will be making their joyous live return at the following:

Jan 14: UK The Garage London [SOLD OUT]
Jan 15: UK The Garage London [EXTRA SHOW ADDED]

Jan 19: DE Kulttempel Oberhausen [SOLD OUT]
Jan 20: DE Conne Island Leipzig [SOLD OUT]

Tickets available from 9am Monday 12th from: http://www.abandcalledcasey.com

Of the single, vocalist Tom Weaver comments:

"'Great Grief' is really special to the five of us. It was the first piece of music we wrote collectively after deciding that we wanted to do this again, and it felt like an organic progression when it came together.

"Musically we wanted to maintain an anchor in the familiar, but challenge ourselves to produce a more mature and expansive sound. We put a lot of thought into the sound design, adding layers and harmonies - all things we'd not really put much effort into previously.

"Lyrically, the song talks about the realisation I came to after reflecting on our time as a band following our breakup. When we announced we were drawing Casey to a close, I'd tunneled on the immediate personal impact of my writing, and how it felt like I was proliferating my pain by repeating it each night. But I'm in a much better place now, and I've grown a lot over the last few years. So now, if I look beyond myself at how the music Casey made has been interpreted and applied in our fans, my own discomfort feels like a small price to pay for the collective joy and catharsis we felt from our community."

Casey, at its core, was grounded in the notion that music is a labour of love. Without expectation of success, without desire to attain stardom, just a shared yearning to create music - and when this no longer rang true Casey stayed true to themselves, and stepped away.

In late 2018, when Casey announced they were bringing the band to a close, it felt like a premature demise. Their first two LPs - 2016 Love Is Not Enough and 2018’s Where I Go When I Am Sleeping – had firmly established the Welsh five-piece as one of the most exciting bands in Britain’s alternative scene.

Now, four long years later, the band have returned.

‘Great Grief’ is the first song to emerge from Casey's resurrection, a gorgeously gloomy track that sees the band expand on the layered soundscapes that underpinned the songs of Where I Go When I Am Sleeping. Broken, bruised and bloody, and yet shimmering with beautiful defiance.

Quintessential Casey, the band's open hearts dripping with the same kind of pain and trauma that had defined them from the start. Casey don't just replicate the feelings that inspire them - they embody them.

Progressive metallers Ne Obliviscaris unveil first new song from upcoming album Exul

Progressive metal outfit Ne Obliviscaris will be releasing their long-awaited new full-length, Exul, on 24th March 2023 via Season of Mist. The band is now sharing the haunting new single 'Equus' along with a music video, which was directed and produced by Ne Obliviscaris vocalist Xenoyr.

Watch the video to 'Equus' here: https://youtu.be/Bftqq_BqQHI
Pre-orders for Exul are now available here.

Pre-save the album on streaming services here.

Regarding the video's powerful yet sombre message, the band explains: "'Equus' is dedicated to the lives lost during the lethal bush fires that scarred Australia in 2019-2020. Alongside the people who died or were affected, many millions, if not billions, of animals were killed or displaced from their natural habitats, the enormity of this is something that will never be forgotten, and should not be ignored. It is also a warning that the world we live in is changing from the damage we as a species have contributed to. Within this video, the dancer represents a scorched Mother Earth, from horror to humanity, ever in tune with the heart and flow of the song (and world), and ultimately aware of the inevitable and ever growing destructive cycle we are in."

Drum tracking for Exul, the fourth long-player from Australian extreme progressive metallers Ne Obliviscaris, started in March 2020. There is an ominous tone to that date: March 2020. The pandemic demarcation line. That month, Daniel Presland laid down his drums in Nashville, Tennessee, with American producer Mark Lewis. As flight cancellations increased and borders shuttered, Presland made it home literally hours before Australia closed theirs. Lewis, guitarist Benjamin Baret and bassist Martino Garattoni weren’t as lucky. They were due to land in Australia in the days that followed to continue tracking, but were forced to remain overeseas indefinitely. With recording studios shuttered throughout Melbourne, a slow, tedious, life-altering two-year grind to complete Exul ensued for Ne Obliviscaris.

What should have been the continued upward swing after 2017’s critically acclaimed Urn turned into the most fraught moment of Ne Obliviscaris’s career. Clean vocalist and violinist Tim Charles says the period “came close to breaking us completely.” It was a time filled with death, relationships breaking down, despair and financial loss. Presland, Ne Obliviscaris’s drummer since 2005, amicably parted ways in early 2022, throwing yet another wrench into the band’s plans.

Seven additional studios and three more countries later, Exul was finally mixed and mastered in July 2022.

The album personifies Ne Obliviscaris’s distinctive, boundary-pushing ethos. The band’s trademark blend of emotion and beauty is as towering as ever, if not even more compelling, particularly how Charles' violin lines carefully weave their way around Baret and fellow guitarist Matt Klavins’ riffing. The duality of Charles' clean vocals and Xenoyr’s growls remains the narrative anchor, elevating songs that emanate sophistication and are a masterclass in composition.

“Our approach is always the same,” says Charles, “which is essentially to just write and see what comes out. Exul definitely had its challenges during the songwriting process. Part of the beauty of how our music comes together is that we are quite different individuals bringing an array of ideas together. From there, we work out how to combine them into something that is seamless and beautiful to us. We were determined to make this our best and most complete album yet, which definitely resulted in it taking longer. But we are so proud of this album and it’s exciting to finally share it with the world.”

The album’s centerpiece is the two-part 'Misericorde I – As the Flesh Fails' and 'Misericorde – Anatomy of Quiescence.' (A Ne Obliviscaris album is not complete without a multi-part epic!) According to Charles, 'Part II' began by taking a song they thought was finished ('Pt I') and asking, “What if after that…?” The band then wrote a section that took the piece in a new direction and what was a seven minute song, became an almost seventeen-minute two-part epic.

“The bulk of 'Part I' was written more so by Benji and Martino,” notes Charles. “You can hear the very guitar-driven approach present throughout that track. 'Part II', by contrast, was written more so by myself in collaboration with others and the emphasis changes more towards expansive solos and slow-developing sections that build towards the epic finale. These two tracks are a great example of how it’s the combination of our different strengths as songwriters spread across an album that results in the sound that is Ne Obliviscaris.”

The Exul album title came to Xen when he was summing up the album’s feeling musically and lyrically. Coincidentally, it matched the experience of most people during the pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. “I think everyone at some point has felt at odds with the world around them, felt alone, cast out, or misunderstood,” says Xen. Exul felt right to use in a broader sense and as a lone word, for we each have our own history and a story of exile.

“Overall, there’s a darker core to this album, perhaps more ominous than previous releases,” he continues. “However abstract the lyrics are, they involve some form of unwanted departure — all journeys into torment, passion, longing and even despair. They touch on the process of physical and psychological destruction that comes from that sense or reality of being exiled, whether forced from one’s land, ostracised from a community, shunned by a religion, or even simply being treated differently for being who they are.”

Touring will factor heavily into Ne Obliviscaris’s 2023 plans. The band will embark on headlining tours worldwide that will hit new territories. As luck would have it, the return to live show activity will coincide with the release of Exul and the band’s 20th anniversary. As one of Australia’s leading extreme metal exports, there is a distinct sense of gratitude from Charles and his bandmates. They’re looking forward to sharing it with fans when they resume touring.

“Simply getting the opportunity to perform music that we’ve written on stages around the world to people that genuinely love and connect with it,” finishes Charles when talking about Ne Obliviscaris ’s 20-year journey. “There is something incredibly special about the energy that exists between an artist and audience at a concert and it’s an honor to get the opportunity to spend 2023 connecting with people in that way once more.”

Australian extreme metal squad To The Grave release hard-hitting single 'Axe Of Kindness'

Hardline extreme metal squad To The Grave have unveiled their powerful new single / video 'Axe of Kindness', the second taken from their new album, Director’s Cuts, out 24th February, 2023, via Unique Leader Records.

'Axe of Kindness' continues the band's strong vegan message, watch the video here: https://youtu.be/jY67FPBNQRE

The band comment: "Axe is a tongue-in-cheek horror concept in the vein of The Purge, we had a little fun going ultra-violent on the idea of someone who’s had enough with a world full of apathy and plans to exact vengeance for animals by going door-to-door with a fire axe."

One of Australia’s most uncompromising bands, To The Grave return with their heaviest album to date, both sonically and thematically. Since the release of their 2019 debut album Global Warning, the caustic five piece have garnered international success, with 2021’s follow-up Epilogue, a re-issue of Global Warning with bonus tracks, solidifying their position as “one of the country's heaviest exports.” (Revolver).

To The Grave have steadily built an audience in the underground, accumulating more than 11 million Spotify streams, racking up over 5.4 million YouTube views, all whilst decimating live audiences alongside Parkway Drive, Polaris, Cattle Decapitation, Thy Art Is Murder, Vulvodynia and Alpha Wolf.

Now, following a sold-out national headline tour in 2022 and revitalised by a new lineup, the band are more focused than ever, looking ahead to the release of their second album Director’s Cuts in February 2023.

The eleven tracks lyrically expose a societal and environmental hell on earth whilst pushing the boundaries of accessible extremity, full of barbed hooks, thick with atmosphere and drenched in groove. Razor-sharp guitars played with an exploratory approach - blending everything from whammy pedal squeaks and chiming cleans to death metal chainsaw tones - are entwined with live drums to give a level of dynamism that musically sets this band apart from the extreme metal pack, yet they maintain the weight of the heaviest bands today. Vocalist Dane Evans commands a multifaceted performance, bursting with vocal energy from throat-ripping dissonant screeches to low end gutturals.

At just over 44 minutes in length, Director’s Cuts is an album packed with ambition and conscience. To The Grave have never shied away from channeling the real horrors of animal cruelty and its impact into the violent, emotional intensity of their music. Songs such as ‘Red Dot Sight’, ‘Found Footage’ and ‘Cut Off The Head’ perfectly conjure images of a world gone astray.

Director’s Cuts was recorded by bassist Matt Clarke, with drums recorded live at The Brain Studios in Sydney and mixed and mastered by Lance Prenc at Prenc Audio (Void of Vision, Alpha Wolf, Polaris) in Melbourne with album photography by Animals Uncovered.

The band comment on the new album: "This is the refinement of our combined musical tastes, fuelled by our sadness and anger at the state of the world. We made the music we wanted to make without really considering how it would fit into any little genre boxes, because we knew if we loved it completely then everyone else would too. These songs are hard and heavy without being technical just for the sake of it.”
