Synth-metal quintet Voyager announce pre-Eurovision London headline show

Australia's Eurovision Song Contest representatives Voyager enter promised land with their new progressive synth-metal anthem ‘Promise’ that they'll bring to the world stage in May.

In conjunction with the release, Voyager have announced an exclusive London headline show on April 20th at Boston Music Room ahead of their voyage to Eurovision.

The band comment: "LONDON! We're playing a headline show at Boston Music Room on 20th April 2023. Don't forget to stay hydrated cause things are gonna get SWEATY. We promise you a good time."

Purchase tickets here.

The fearless, riff-laden, genre-bending band's entry, 'Promise' can be heard here, and you can watch the video here.

The opening line of Voyager’s 2023 Eurovision song 'Promise' is somewhat prophetic. As vocalist Danny Estrin belts out the lyric, “Have you ever done anything like this before?” audiences across the globe will realise we haven’t. For the first time ever, a band will represent the country – and not just any band – a band with soaring melodies, masterful riffs, keytar solos, powerhouse rhythms, and enough charisma to take on the world.

Shattering expectations, their resilience and determination has finally paid off. Voyager's is a story of passion, perseverance, and patience. The band has been throwing their hat in the ring for the Eurovision Song Contest since Australia announced its participation back in 2015. Eight years later, they have prospered, overcome, and are now victorious. Voyager are a band who take everything in their stride, over the years garnering a strong fanbase near and far, continuing to vie for their Eurovision dream. At last year’s Eurovision Australia Decides, they took out second place in a nail-biting finish, leading the public vote with their song 'Dreamer'.

Now, Voyager are about to set sail to Merseyside with their song 'Promise'; an epic, progressive pop-metal track that transports the listener on an emotive story of adventure and redemption. Its stunning music video was captured in the region of Australia's mid-west Kalbarri that boasts the pink ethereal Hutt Lagoon, and Kalbarri National Park, where there are epic gorges and rock formations including Nature’s Window.

Blending New Romantic, ‘80s infused vocals with technical, melodic framework, groovy basslines, bombastic drums, and what is fast becoming the band’s signature instrument, the keytar, it’s sure to lift the roof off Pier Head, Liverpool. They have toured the world many times over, with an influx of fans on their latest European tour won over by their electric live performances.

Voyager will soon embark on their eighth album cycle, but before they can begin their next chapter, they must first take on the epic battle they have long been fighting for.

Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra won the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest in Turin, Italy, with their song 'Stefania'. This year, the United Kingdom will host the competition on Ukraine’s behalf with the theme United by Music. This is the ninth time the United Kingdom will host Eurovision and the fifth time it’s hosted for other countries due to financial or capacity issues.

Voyager are:

Danny Estrin (Vocals, Keytar)
A keytar wielding, songwriting powerhouse who is a lawyer by day and a rockstar by night. Not only is Danny an award-winning lawyer, but his multilingual abilities are an asset to Voyager’s live shows all around the world, allowing the band to connect on a deeper level with their international audience, mesmerised by his ‘80s vocal timbre.

Simone Dow (Guitars)
A firecracker of a guitarist whose chronic pain condition only drives her further to succeed. An advocate of migraine awareness, the 7-string guitarist shreds and brings an energy to the stage unmatched by anyone else in the scene.

Scott Kay (Guitars)
Scott’s technical proficiency and energy perfectly compliment his sister in shred, syncopating their efforts on stage and providing a twin attack on guitars. Scott’s philosophical approach to music shines through in his performance, executing a deep and meaningful energy to every live show.

Alex Canion (Bass)
The face of bass, and a killer vocalist to boot. Alex is a force of nature and connects with all his peers on stage in a way that brings a dynamic that is hard to rival in any band. Providing epic moments in the songs alongside a rhythmic foundation, Alex’s personality brings an eccentric and expressive outpour to Voyager’s shows.

Ash Doodkorte (Drums)
The most bombastic drummer you’ll ever see. Leading the charge with impact and momentum, Ash’s drumming is indefatigable. Not only is he a master of his craft, but he also specialises in another craft topic, beer.

One of the most aspiring post-hardcore acts in Germany, Future Palace signed to Arising Empire to release their debut album Escape in 2020, which has garnered several million streams across streaming platforms.

Future Palace's sophomore album Run was produced by Julian Breucker (Beyond The Black) and mixed/mastered by Annisokay guitarist Christoph Wieczorek. Run explores the fight with one's own demons, the aftermath of a toxic relationship, and how the struggle with your own salvation is only the beginning, even after escaping from a dramatic situation. Blending the rawness of Holding Absence, Spiritbox and While She Sleeps with the irresistible, sweeping sounds of Bring Me The Horizon and PVRIS, the visually stunning and vulnerable record sets these painful processes to atmospheric post-hardcore, portraying the ups and downs of emotion.

Texas Hippie Coalition announce new album and stream new single 'Hell Hounds'

Heavy southern rock band Texas Hippie Coalition have announced the release of their seventh studio album, The Name Lives On, on 21st April 2023 via MNRK Heavy. The hard-hitting 10-track collection is another riff-heavy, sonic assault from beginning to end.

The first single, 'Hell Hounds,' proves this dog hunts right out of the gate.  With a punishing riff, frontman Big Dad Ritch growls, "And I know that you think you're so strong/And I've been sent to prove you wrong."

Watch the visualiser for 'Hell Hounds' here: https://youtu.be/t9aHOw7u3EE

THC frontman Big Dad Ritch commented: “Where there once was an appetite for this style of music, I witnessed a hunger grow and now I see the lovers of real music starving for it. The name lives on is an album that is a dinner bell ringer… I was sent to ring that bell!!!”

Texas Hippie Coalition are often compared to the many great southern rock and Texas bands that came before them.  But they are proving to the world that THC is not just following in their footsteps, they are leaving giant footprints.  Not only is the band etching out a place for themselves in the multi-genre fields of music, but they have also created their own genre in ‘Red Dirt Metal’. You have to hear it to understand it. Words are not enough to convey how powerfully big their sound is.

Texas Hippie Coalition are:

 Big Dad Ritch - Vocals
 Cord Pool - Guitar
 Nevada Romo - Guitar
 Rado Romo - Bass Guitar
 Joey Mandigo - Drums

More information on Texas Hippie Coalition:

Big Dad Ritch captains this pirate ship of bikers, outlaws, troubadours, and hellraisers, welcoming all comers to the Texas Hippie Coalition party with gregarious charisma and Southern charm. Across a half dozen albums, countless club gigs, and show stealing performances at Rockstar Mayhem, THC has spread the good word of big riffs, big hooks, and wild times.

His hero was always Johnny Cash, but Ritch had once resigned himself to a quiet life of picket fences and fishing. But then, the stars aligned with Texas Hippie Coalition.

The storytelling of Big Dad Ritch (whose birth certificate reads James Earl Richard Anderson) was front and centre in the Red-Dirt-country-meets-hard-rock-and metal bluster of the band’s debut, Pride of Texas (2008) and its increasingly bombastic and hard charging follow-ups: Rollin’ (2010), Peacemaker (2012), Ride On (2014), and Dark Side of Black (2016). 'Turn it Up' and 'Damn You to Hell' even cracked the mainstream rock Top 40. 2019’s High in the Saddle saw the band expand internationally, gaining legions of fans across Europe and beyond.

Ritch puts the band’s evolution in Old West terms. “In the beginning, you’re an outlaw looking for direction. You gotta get the best guys for the job behind you,” he explains. “Now we know how to rob banks, how to rob stagecoaches, and how to rob trains.”

Texas Hippie Coalition sounded just as at home sharing the stage with Korn and Black Label Society as they have been supporting NazarethLynyrd Skynyrd, and David Allan Coe. Country trailblazers like Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash are essential parts of THC’s lifeblood, intermingled with the Southern swagger of Molly Hatchet and ZZ Top; the Sunset Strip debauchery of Mötley Crüe and Van Halen; the heavy stoner grooves of Clutch and COC; and the metallic Texas-sized crunch of the late, great Abbott brothers.

Ihsahn releases cover of Kent's 'Dom Andra' - feat. Jonas Renske (Katatonia)

Norwegian progressive metal pioneer Ihsahn has released a new single, 'Dom Andra ft. Jonas Renske' (Katatonia)),which is a cover of a track by the Swedish alt rock band Kent. It's the second single to be taken from forthcoming Fascination Street sessions EP, which is released on March 24th via Candlelight Records.

Pre-save Fascination Street sessions EP here: https://Ihsahn.lnk.to/FascinationStreetSessionsPresave

Comments Ihsahn: "Prior to getting involved with this project, I’d been talking to Jonas Renske (Katatonia) about doing a cover of the Swedish band Kent and the song 'Dom Andra', and what better opportunity to do a cover of a Swedish band, in Swedish, with a Swedish vocalist, in Sweden with one of the top producers in Sweden. Needless to say, Jonas did a stunning performance of the song and I hope the rest makes it justice too!“

Known as a constantly evolving artist who loves to transcend boundaries, Ihsahn’s musical journey has been relentlessly fascinating and frequently revelatory. With his penchant for collaborative projects and fascination with production, this new three track EP, featuring two new original songs and one cover version, is the direct result of Ihsahn joining forces with URM Academy's online educational program for music production, and producer/engineer Jens Bogren (Opeth, Dimmu Borgir, Arch Enemy, Powerwolf) of Fascination Street Studios

Joining Ihsahn on this project was his long-time drummer Tobias Ørnes Andersen and keyboardist Øystein Aadland, who spent ten intense days at Fascination Street Studios recording the songs.  As well as playing keyboard throughout, Øystein Aadland also adds warm and gentle lead vocals for the track ‘The Observer’ whilst Jonas Renske of Katatonia recorded guest vocals to the cover song ‘Dom Andra’.

Throughout the whole experience the URM Academy team captured everything on video with Jens Bogren adding commentary to the production techniques used, with detail on mic placements, preamps, drumhead tunings, sharing his methodology and drilling down into what goes into a recording such as this.

Ihsahn adds: "The idea was to capture high end recordings of real instruments in great rooms, and we had an amazing setup for drums, guitars, bass and even a vintage Hammond organ with Leslie, Wurlitzer, Rhodes etc, recorded through Fender combos and analogue pedals etc.

"This was an amazing experience, and very educational, as I love everything related to music production.  Both the Fascination Street and URM teams were incredible, and I believe everyone involved had a great time, in spite of 14–16 hour workdays.  I´m very happy with how everything came together and for those interested in the technical aspects of how it was made, there will be a thorough course coming soon at URM Academy.”

About Ihsahn

Since 1991 Ihsahn has defied expectations and pushed boundaries. More than any other artist to emerge from the fertile black metal scene of the early ‘90s, Ihsahn has firmly established himself as an unpredictable maverick. Frontman and chief composer with the legendary Emperor, he re-wrote the rulebook on epic extreme music across a series of albums that are still widely regarded as classics. Launching his solo career in 2006 with The Adversary he has sought to maintain the black metal blueprint that he helped devise with the world-shattering Emperor, while mischievously exploring progressive dreamscapes, avant-garde jazz, electronica, darkwave, ear-crushing tech-metal and ambient meditations. Each full-length album has had an element of surprise and delight, where the architect plays out his creative vision by building on an unwavering zeal for the shock and awe that keeps his listeners on their toes.

Black metallers Deitus announce new album Irreversible

Black metallers Deitus return from the abyss with their third studio album, Irreversible, on 14th July via Candlelight Records. Ahead of the new album the band have also released the blistering first single, ‘A Scar For Serenity’.

Check out ‘A Scar For Serenity’ here: https://youtu.be/FPVxVVdS7Pw

Comments Deitus on the new single: "'A Scar For Serenity' is our new, neck-breaking single after more than 4 years of silence. Deitus is here to bring genuine danger to this overly sensitive, sterile scene."

Formed in 2004 in York (UK), Deitus create sonic terror through the medium of black metal with no limits and no compromises. The band's core line-up has remained a stable 3-piece since their inception, taking inspiration from such artists as Dissection, Slayer, GG Allin, Fields of the Nephilim and Bathory.

Deitus produce raw, dark and melodic soundscapes that have helped to win them high praise for their notorious, blood-drenched, rabid, violent live performances across the UK, Europe, United States and Mexico. They have received attention for bringing an unpredictable and dangerous element back into the live setting and have played alongside such esteemed bands as Mayhem, ShiningHellhammer, Rotting Christ and also at various festivals across the globe including Bloodstock Festival (UK), Netherlands Deathfest (NL), Odyssey To Blasphemy (DE), Winter Rising (FR) and Sangre Y Fuego para Mictlantecuhtli (MX).

Forthcoming release Irreversible was engineered by Greg Chandler at Priory Recording Studios with mixing and mastering completed by Tore Stjerna at Necromorbus Studio and cover art by Santiago Caruso.  It follows on from their two highly-acclaimed studio albums to date, Acta Non Verba (2016) and Via Dolorosa (2018).

Deitus conclude: "Irreversible' will be released via our new label, Candlelight Records, this summer. This partnership, with such an esteemed label, will only serve to inflict the sinister and vicious art of Deitus to an even wider audience. ‘Irreversible’ will consolidate Deitus as masters of our craft whilst at the same time introducing a much more diverse and unique sound overall. We won't give too much away at this point but there are numerous guest artist appearances and projects in motion; expect surprises between now and 14th July."

Doom metallers Moor announce debut album and stream harrowing new single (Blood Blast Distribution / Believe Digital)

Hamburg doom quintet Moor have unveiled their visceral new single / video 'Tears From Acrid Smoke' and announced their cathartic debut album Heavy Heart, set for release on 17th May via Believe Digital.

Watch the video for 'Tears From Acrid Smoke' here: https://youtu.be/zh1LZSJS_gI

Stream the single and pre-save Heavy Heart here: https://moor.bfan.link/tears-from-acrid-smoke

Vocalist Ercüment Kasalar commented on 'Tears From Acrid Smoke': "Our first single deals with the feeling of the inner fight that you face when you burn a bridge in your life. Crossing it, getting hit by the acrid smoke of the burning pain but leaving it behind and moving on."

The colossal sound of Heavy Heart, Moor's first album, is created in a vulnerable place. Loud and scratchy, desolate and intimidating, full of despair and an intimate, almost overpowering sense of yearning. And slow, draggingly slow like the shuffling step of death. "I love to move in atmospheric walls of sound, to sink into them and become one with them," band founder Ercüment Kasalar explains his preference for doom. "I can't do that in fast music, it's just too hectic for my relaxed mindset."

Heavy Heart was written and recorded by the original line-up featuring singer and guitarist Kasalar, guitarists Ben Laging and David Kaiser, bassist Christian Smukal and drummer Chad Popple. All of them have earned their spurs in other bands or projects and have appeared with Tephra, Sport, The Ocean, Gorge Trio or rha

Moor's sound is closer to Omega Massif or Neurosis than to Sabbath stoner clones, regurgitated and dragged into the light from deep within, that primal place where you only go when you really have to. And Moor had to, within weeks of recording, two band members were diagnosed with cancer – Ben Laging and Christian Smukal. Tragically in 2022, co-founder and bassist Smukal lost his battle, tearing a huge gap in the band's structure. Heavy Heart is his farewell letter, his mournful legacy.

"For me, it's a gift to be a part of Christian's last recordings," says guitarist David Kaiser. "The sessions together before we went into the studio were very inspiring." Kasalar adds, "Everything we did during that time, all the strokes of fate we went through together formed this heavy heart, and it will keep beating." In the current line-up, bassist Ralph Ulrich (Kavrila) as well as drummer Elinor Lüdde (Corecass) complete a band that operates where it really hurts.

There was never any question of not continuing the band. Because it was Christian's wish, as Ben Laging emphasises. And now we all can hear this Heavy Heart, this gnarling, this hurting, this serious album serving as the last memory of an old friend and companion but at the same time the beginning of something new, something big.

Heavy Heart is neither overly brutal nor transfiguredly beautiful. It's an album akin to this alluring, cruel experiment called life. It can be tough, certainly not for cowards. Instead, it's for people who face life and who know how to savour it despite all of its heaviness. Catharsis through pain. This is Moor
