Black Orchid Empire release new single / video 'The Raven'

UK trio Black Orchid Empire have unveiled their new single / video 'The Raven', taken from their new album Tempus Veritas, set for release on 14th April via Season of Mist

On 'The Raven', the band comment: "'The Raven' is a song inspired by our love of Viking folklore and mythology.  After the Danish Vikings began raiding England in the 9th century, many sought long-term settlement - they were farmers who saw an abundance of rich, fertile land in the hands of the Saxons. 'The Raven' is written from the point of view of such a settler who, after many years in a foreign land, is struggling with the feeling of losing touch with the old gods of his former home.  The insane video created by our friend and visual collaborator Alina Gordienco is a brilliant modern-day take on the idea of losing your identity and fighting your inner demons."

'Glory To The King': https://youtu.be/bY76U2RyHgk
 'Deny The Sun': https://youtu.be/b1uukX9KALY

On new album Tempus Veritas, he continues: "Interwoven with the fabric of our history as a species are countless opportunities for stories. Little pieces of imagined narrative, set within events we all collectively know as historical, that seek to explore what it means to be human - this is the idea behind Tempus Veritas. Whereas Semaphore looked to the future, this record reinvents the past, wondering what it was like to be inside the mind of a person living through times of consequence. Musically, we continue to seek the boundary between the savagely technical and the undeniably beautiful and attempt to push it as far as possible. We poured our entire creative beings into making this album - we sincerely hope you enjoy it."

Black Orchid Empire have also announced their Tempus Veritas headline tour, with support from Giant Walker. Full upcoming dates are as follows:

Apr 22: KK's Steel Mill, Wolverhampton (Empyre album release show)
Apr 15: Lume Fest

UK headline tour:

Jun 28: UK, Derby, The Hairy Dog
Jun 29: UK, Anarchy Brewery, Newcastle Upon Tyne
Jun 30: UK, Glasgow, Audio
Jul 01: UK, Manchester, Yes Basement
Jul 02: UK, 229, London

Black Orchid Empire create huge, memorable rock music that combines heavy-hitting savagery with intense melodic beauty. Their technical, fearlessly complex grooves and gigantic sing-along choruses have already earned them a widespread fanbase.

A ferociously tight live band, Black Orchid Empire have toured Europe and the UK extensively, supporting Skunk Anansie, HED p.e, INME and Black Map as well as festival slots at Download, Standon Calling and Planet Rockstock. Black Orchid Empire have sealed the bands reputation as a force to be reckoned with.

Having released their debut album Archetype (2016) to universal acclaim, Black Orchid Empire signed with German label Long Branch Records to release the follow up albums Yugen (2018) and Semaphore (2020). Both albums received stellar reviews and over 4,000,000+ combined streams.

Tempus Veritas is a collection of stories that seeks to find compelling imaginary narratives hidden away in what we all think of as history. Behind every milestone or major event in humanity’s long, complex past lies a treasure trove of possibilities for invention - how did Pope Urban VIII feel when confronted by his friend Galileo about the true nature of the sun?  What really happened during an almost triumphant but ultimately doomed Everest attempt? What was it like to be a Norse settler amongst the Saxons; did the omens of the ancient gods begin to disappear?

In approaching Tempus Veritas, Black Orchid Empire sought collectively to push themselves both musically and thematically. Their pursuit of heaviness, melody, emotional power and rhythmic complexity has pushed them to create something they‘re immensely proud of. Semaphore was an album of Sci-Fi, this is an album of Hi-Fi. Tempus Veritas.

Thrashcore band Tortured Demon announce new album Rise Of The Lifeless and stream new single

Few bands can claim to have played a festival set so hard that the stage broke. Fewer still can claim to have done so when still barely teens.

Then again, Manchester-based thrashcore band Tortured Demon are already onto something special.

Tortured Demon have announced their second album, Rise Of The Lifeless, which will be released 2nd June. They've also released the first single from the record, the title track, which you can stream here: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/tortureddemon/rise-of-the-lifeless

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/DMT8uodjmOE

Pre-order Rise Of The Lifeless here: http://tortureddemon.com/merch-store

Aged between 17-22, the group have already opened for Evile and Xentrix in 2022, and, at Bloodstock 2021, such was their performance, the Jagermeister Stage fell down around them.

Drawing the largest crowd ever seen on that stage, Tortured Demon have since been invited back to perform at Bloodstock 2023, where surely they wouldn’t be able to repeat the feat.

Releasing their debut in 2021, recorded when all bandmembers were still at school, Tortured Demon have moved up a gear with their new record, Rise Of The Lifeless.

Rise Of The Lifeless will be self-released by the band worldwide, except for Japan, where they’ve already inked a deal with Spiritual Beast/Universal Music Japan. Tortured Demon’s debut – In Desperation’s Grip – was DiskUnion (Tokyo’s leading record store)’s best-selling international metal record on release week. Again, no mean feat for a band so young.

Suffice to say, the quartet have been hammering their way through the UK Metal Scene. Their line-up consists of brothers Jacob (Vocals and Guitar, 17) and Joe Parkinson (Drums, 19), joined by Billy Houigan (Lead Guitar, 19) and Sean Xavier (Bass and Backing Vocals, 23) completing the ground-shaking quartet. Combining Thrash riffs and Hardcore breakdowns with technical drums, all whilst maintaining a strong focus on quality songwriting, Tortured Demon bring a fresh yet classic sound to the UK scene.

Over the last 6 months Tortured Demon have been writing and recording their second album Rise Of The Lifeless with producer David Radahd-Jones, whilst playing select shows. Tortured Demon have built a loyal live following nationwide thanks to their high-octane live show, and will surely make this year their own.

Texas Hippie Coalition are often compared to the many great southern rock and Texas bands that came before them.  But they are proving to the world that THC is not just following in their footsteps, they are leaving giant footprints.  Not only is the band etching out a place for themselves in the multi-genre fields of music, but they have also created their own genre in ‘Red Dirt Metal’. You have to hear it to understand it. Words are not enough to convey how powerfully big their sound is.

Death Metallers Creeping Death announce new album; release first single 'Intestinal Wrap' feat. George 'Corpsegrinder' Fisher (Cannibal Corpse)

Hold onto your innards, Texas death metal outfit Creeping Death return with their long-awaited full-length, Boundless Domain, set for release on 16th June via MNRK Heavy.

The band have unveiled the album's first single, 'Intestinal Wrap', a hulking great slab of fast and groovy death metal which features George 'Corpsegrinder' Fisher of Cannibal Corpse.

Watch the video for 'Intestinal Wrap' here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlaJiUa7czE

Pre-order the album Boundless Domain here: https://creepingdeath.ffm.to/boundlessdomain

Creeping Death is on a quick and furious ascent from the underground. The death metal crew have repeatedly delivered a relentless bludgeoning summoned from the furthest reaches of the genre's past, present, and future. A triumphant celebration of the style itself, the Lone Star State fivesome whips up gruesome riffage and Southern grooves with an improbable cathartic glee.

As Revolver Magazine observed, Creeping Death "assemble hulking riffs, screaming guitar solos, and ghastly vocal lows, and play them with the urgent momentum of a sterling hardcore band." The band's formula hits perfection with the brilliant Boundless Domain, a sophomore slice of spectacular weight, girth, and might. Produced by Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz (As I Lay Dying, The Acacia Strain, Underoath), Boundless Domain is a certified ripper, top to bottom.

"We've never sounded better," guitarist Trey Pemberton shares enthusiastically. "We love the people we've recorded with before, but we've never had anybody challenge and push us as Adam did."

In the wake of the passing of local heroes Riley Gale of Power Trip and Wade Allison of Iron Age, the band - guitarist Trey Pemberton, singer Reese Alavi, bassist Eric "Rico" Mejia, drummer Lincoln Mullins, and guitarist A.J. Ross, found themselves digging back into some of their metallic hardcore favourites. "We made it a point to bring in more influences from hardcore bands we came up loving, especially Texas hardcore," Pemberton explains. "There's a lot of Mammoth Grinder, Iron Age, and Power Trip influence. Having Riley and Wade pass so close to one another left a huge hole in the scene. We all went on a kick of listening to the Texas stuff for a while, and it definitely seeped into our writing."

Boundless Domain boasts future death metal classics like the super heavy, fast, and groovy 'Intestinal Wrap,' which features George 'Corpsegrinder' Fisher of Cannibal Corpse. 'Vitrified Earth' showcases Creeping Death's increasing skills at song-craft, most evident with the cadence and phrasing of Alavi's vocals while never neglecting the sick riffs. Toward the album's end, there's even a bit of a spaced-out atmosphere, with guitar effects, harmonies, and heady time signatures.

About Creeping Death
Originally hailing from Denton, Texas, and now situated in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area, Creeping Death summon a vibrant sound that is somehow both familiar and fresh. Their initial outburst, 2016's three-song Sacrament Of Death, introduced them to death and thrash metal audiences, followed two years later by the Specter Of War EP. By the time they unleashed 2019's Wretched Illusions album, Kerrang! hailed Creeping Death as "an underground juggernaut" that "channels all the raddest aspects of metal without getting shoehorned into any clichés." 2021's The Edge Of Existence EP further demonstrated the power, fury, and revelry at the heart of their identity.

Tours with High On Fire, The Acacia Strain, Rotting Out, Terror, and The Warriors spread the Creeping Death message. Crowds succumbed to the group's combination of endlessly catchy riffage, precise percussion, and storytelling lyrics. Early 2023 saw Creeping Death travel overseas to the UK and Europe with Revocation and Goatwhore. A US trek supporting Carcass, Municipal Waste, and Sacred Reich is on the books. The journey kicks off on 31st March in Santa Ana, California and winds its way through two dozen cities, closing on April 30th in Los Angeles, California.

Oath Of Cranes (ex-Celtic Frost) stream new single ahead of debut album release

Oath Of Cranes - the new band from ex-Celtic Frost drummer Franco Sesa and ex-Celtic Frost guitarist Erol Ünala - turn doom metal on its head.

The band have today released their new single 'Puja', taken from forthcoming debut album The Unsung Mantras, to be released 21st April via Klang Machine Records.

Stream and pre-order the record here: oathofcranes.lnk.to/puja

Franco Sesa combines his passion for eastern traditional music — particularly the mantra chants of Tibetan monks — with his love for hard rock to create a genuinely innovative wall of sound.

Starting off with the calm, yet uncanny ring of a meditation gong before hitting the listener in the face with Sesa’s hard-hitting drums, 'Puja' is a goosebump-inducing demonstration of the incredible energy created by combining walls of distorted guitars with bagpipe-evoking Tibetan horns, guttural chants, and the despairing voice of vocalist Fabrizio Merico.

It is the third and final single to be released from The Unsung Mantras

Sesa comments: "Celebrate the negation of hope.
The act of hope should only be performed for a limited time. If the other person is not receptive, for whatever reason, the exercise should be discontinued. Inability is innocence. You should then put your energy to better use. Otherwise, there is a danger of hostility on the part of the one you hope for, with the aim of incomprehension through inability. Not necessarily out of malice. Let it go and move on.  Invest in yourself.
As the Mantra says:
From the unreal lead me to the real.
From the darkness lead me to the light.
From death lead me to immortality."

The songs on The Unsung Mantras are dark and disturbing, yet beautiful and healing: traditional instruments and sounds from Asian heritage and cultures with shamanic roots, including singing bowls, horns and Tibetan monks' chants, support the powerful and innovative metal celebrated on the album. The result vividly underscores the album's Daoism-inspired concept and the band's broader cultural influences, such as the choice of Sanskrit for song titles, imagery inspired by the Sadhu tradition, and the tribute to the uplifting virtues described by the iconography of Hindu deities. The Oath Of the Cranes is a promise: good death follows a good life.

The record was produced by Oath Of Cranes, engineered at Switzerland's New Sound Studio by Tommy Vetterli (Coroner, Eluveitie, Cellar Darling & more), and mastered at Sweden's Fascination Street Studios by Tony Lindgren (Sepultura, Kreator, Witchcraft & more).

Oath Of Cranes are:

Scottish alt-metallers The Colony show teeth with new single 'Bend and Break'

Glasgow alt-metal quintet The Colony have shared their new single 'Bend and Break', the third taste of their upcoming album Have Hope, due for release 7th April. It follows singles 'Ex-Hail' and 'Forever Seeking', two very different songs, showcasing the band's musical diversity. 'Bend and Break' unveils yet another facet of their metal repertoire; heft, guttural screams and crushing breakdowns. Vocalist Peter Cullen sings of a toxic relationship coming to a breaking point, a sentiment that seeps through the track's tense atmosphere.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/d6Hoy9Co39g

Stream the song here: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/thecolony/bend-and-break

The Colony comment: "This song is about a toxic relationship and is taken from the point of view where enough is enough, and the individual has decided to regain control of their life. No longer will they be manipulated, or their self-esteem be dragged down just to make someone else feel better about themselves."

The Colony's upcoming fourth album Have Hope was produced by Steven Jones (Bleed from Within, From Sorrow to Serenity) and is shaping up to be the band's most accomplished work yet.

Since their formation, The Colony have worked tirelessly to forge their sound; a brand of metal that has unique identity, that possesses a powerful character and a musical sense of adventure.

Quickly building momentum, The Colony toured Ireland and Eastern Europe on the back of the critical acclaim reaped by their Time of Wolves album. They played several open-air festivals in Romania, including the Metalhead Meeting twice, once in 2015 with KreatorRotting Christ and Dragonforce; and again in 2017 with Children of BodomSoulflyKataklysm and more. The band then returned to the UK for a tour with their friends in Godstone.

With The Colony, a new peak is only ever a challenge to climb even higher, and in the summer of 2019 they announced their new full length album Smoke And Mirrors. For this set of songs, the band have taken everything that made their previous efforts so successful and seemingly effortlessly, just raised the bar in every department. Smoke And Mirrors saw the light of day in late September 2019, however the band didn’t get the chance to tour due to the pandemic.

Now back with new music, the band will be announcing big plans for 2023.

Ihsahn releases single 'The Observer' taken from new EP

Norwegian progressive metal pioneer Ihsahn has released the final single from his Fascination Street sessions EP, which is out now via Candlelight Records. New track, 'The Observer', is a dynamic song featuring long-time keyboardist and friend Øystein H. Aadland on lead vocals, which provides stunning contrast between Oystein's and Ihsahn's vocal delivery.

Check out ‘The Observer’ here:  https://youtu.be/1Ui76Zd-GXg

Stream ‘The Observer’ here: https://Ihsahn.lnk.to/FascinationStreetSessionsPR

Buy Fascination Street sessions EP here: https://Ihsahn.lnk.to/FascinationStreetSessionsPresave

Comments Ihsahn: "I had a great time doing these sessions! Getting the band in the room...playing off the vibe of what we were recording in these extraordinary rooms. Working with world class engineers like Jens and his team, capturing vintage amps and instruments together with my talented musicians. This EP really represents a moment in time for me. And all along, the wonderful people at URM Academy captured every little detail on camera, so that down the line, fellow studio nerds can share the experience and learn from all these amazing people I get to work alongside."

Known as a constantly evolving artist who loves to transcend boundaries, Ihsahn’s musical journey has been relentlessly fascinating and frequently revelatory. With his penchant for collaborative projects and fascination with production, this new three-track EP, featuring two new original songs and one cover version, is the direct result of Ihsahn joining forces with URM Academy's online educational program for music production, and producer/engineer Jens Bogren (Opeth, Dimmu Borgir, Arch Enemy, Powerwolf) of Fascination Street Studios

Joining Ihsahn on this project was his long-time drummer Tobias Ørnes Andersen and keyboardist Øystein Aadland, who spent ten intense days at Fascination Street Studios recording the songs.  As well as playing keyboard throughout, Øystein Aadland also adds warm and gentle lead vocals for the track ‘The Observer’ whilst Jonas Renske of Katatonia recorded guest vocals to the cover song ‘Dom Andra’.

Throughout the whole experience the URM Academy team captured everything on video with Jens Bogren adding commentary to the production techniques used, with detail on mic placements, preamps, drumhead tunings, sharing his methodology and drilling down into what goes into a recording such as this.

About Ihsahn

Since 1991 Ihsahn has defied expectations and pushed boundaries. More than any other artist to emerge from the fertile black metal scene of the early ‘90s, Ihsahn has firmly established himself as an unpredictable maverick. Frontman and chief composer with the legendary Emperor, he re-wrote the rulebook on epic extreme music across a series of albums that are still widely regarded as classics. Launching his solo career in 2006 with The Adversary he has sought to maintain the black metal blueprint that he helped devise with the world-shattering Emperor, while mischievously exploring progressive dreamscapes, avant-garde jazz, electronica, darkwave, ear-crushing tech-metal and ambient meditations. Each full-length album has had an element of surprise and delight, where the architect plays out his creative vision by building on an unwavering zeal for the shock and awe that keeps his listeners on their toes.
