Swiss trio Dirty Sound Magnet reveal eight-minute psychedelic rock epic, ‘Insomnia’

Shimmering psychedelic rock trio Dirty Sound Magnet have unveiled their epic new single, the eight-minute psychedelic opus 'Insomnia'.

The new track is taken from their forthcoming record, Dreaming In Dystopia, to be released 20th October via Australian label Wild Thing Records.

The origins of ‘Insomnia’, the next single from Dirty Sound Magnet’s upcoming album and the record’s epic closer, comes from a direct result of DzodzosMottolini, and Cosandey writing and performing with each other as long as they have, gradually written, retooled, and refined over the last ten years. Over the track’s eight-minute runtime, Dirty Sound Magnet leap from passages of subtle, spacy ambiance to galvanizing bass grooves, fiery guitar leads, and punchy, precise percussion, in the process melding prog and psychedelic rock in a fashion only possible by those with a deep passion and understanding for how these genres tick.

“The music of ‘Insomnia’ is the result of years of experimenting and jamming,” recalls Dzodzos“As far as I can remember, we've been trying to bring it all together. We knew that the song had the potential to become one of our epics, though even as a complex instrumental track, it was still missing something. Fast forward to two years ago when I was dealing with an entire summer of sleepless nights. From that experience, we got the idea to connect a gentle ballad about insomnia to that instrumental first written a decade ago. With lyrics now in place, things finally clicked."

The addition of lyrics to what would become ‘Insomnia’ inspired Dirty Sound Magnet to debut an accompanying lyric video with the single. “‘Insomnia’ is a song with multiple layers of meaning,” explains Dzodzos. “On one hand, it's about that uncanny feeling when the entire world is asleep and you’re awake. On the other, it's as much about chasing sleep as it is for ideas and inspiration.”

Dreaming In Dystopia is Dirty Sound Magnet's fourth LP, and arrives as the band continue to establish themselves as one of the most exciting acts to emerge from Switzerland this century.

Since its founding in 2016, Dirty Sound Magnet have released three studio recordings, each melding the sounds of rock’s golden age with the genre-agnostic experimentalism of today.

In their time, the trio of Stavros Dzodzos (guitars, lead vocals), Marco Mottolini (bass, backing vocals), and Maxime Cosandey (drums, backing vocals, special effects) have already performed over 650 shows throughout Europe, the UK, and Mexico. Thanks in part to this tireless work ethic and becoming known internationally for their mesmerizing live shows, Dirty Sound Magnet have, in just this short period of time, taken home the 2022 Swiss Live Talents award for ‘Best Swiss Rock Band’ and performed as support for various rock heavyweights including Wolfmother (AU), Rival Sons (US), and Monster Magnet (US).

While 2023’s Dreaming In Dystopia sits as Dirty Sound Magnet's most wonderfully expansive release to date, it also represents the most introspective chapter in the band’s story so far. The album sees the trio explore how, despite the chaotic nature of the world we live in, certain things like the profound power of music and self-expression remain constant. It’s reflective in a way that allows Dirty Sound Magnet to not only express and iterate on their ever-evolving flavour of psychedelic rock but also puts into perspective just how far the trio has come as musicians and performers.

Track-list:

01. Melodies from Distant Shores (4:19)
02. Dreaming in Dystopia (3:42)
03. The Tragedy of Men (3:37)
04. Lonely Bird (3:59)

About Dirty Sound Magnet:

Switzerland’s Dirty Sound Magnet are an unstoppable, unbreakable force of rock. The uniqueness of their mesmerizing music and kinetic live performances has won audiences the world over. Their show is unpredictable; shamanic stage presence, rock star charisma, instrumental prowess, poetic vocals, tantalizing dynamics. As teenagers hailing from Fribourg, Stavros Dzodzos (guitar, vocals), Marco Mottolini (bass, backing vocals), and Maxime Cosandey (drums, backing vocals) devoured hundreds of albums, while rehearsing with great intensity. Their passion rapidly turned into an addiction and total dedication to their art, crafting a sound that has been likened to a fusion of Led Zeppelin's energy and instrumental virtuosity, Iggy Pop's raw energy, and The Doors' mysticism, additionally imbued with modern psych influences of bands like Tame Impala and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. This stylistic pedigree, along with thought-provoking lyrics reflecting contemporary social turmoil, Dirty Sound Magnet have created their own distinct musical formula.

In only a few short years since the band's formation, Dirty Sound Magnet swiftly established themselves within Europe’s burgeoning psychedelic rock scene, extensively touring the continent throughout 2017 to 2020. Since the release of the band’s third and most successful studio album DSM-III, Dirty Sound Magnet have performed over 130 shows, including sold-out tours in the UK, Germany, and Mexico, won the Swiss Live Talents award for ‘Best Swiss Rock Band’ for the second time, previously taking it home for the band's 2017 debut album, Western Lies.

Dirty Sound Magnet's music is in a constant state of evolution, and their upcoming record, Dreaming In Dystopia, due on October 20, 2023, via Australian label Wild Thing Records, is a testament to their artistic progression.

TesseracT release new single 'The Grey' via immersive video game War Of Being

Following their earth-shattering return with an announcement of a world tour, new single and epic 11-minute cinematic video for title track ‘War Of Being’, UK prog-metal luminaries TesseracT continue their journey into The Strangeland in the form of new single ‘The Grey’.

Watch the visualiser for the track here: https://youtu.be/LvLMaL0THhw

'The Grey' is the second song taken from TesseracT's forthcoming War Of Being album, released 15th September via Kscope.

‘The Grey’ builds on signature grooves that undulate in TesseracT’s sound, flanked by polyrhythmic rhythms tied together by the band’s iconic melodies. It’s yet another example of the multi-faceted appeal of their sound and proves that they can craft immediate and affecting tracks just as masterfully as their epic 11-minute opuses.

Regarding the track, Amos Williams had the following to say:

"'The Grey' explores the story and character within The Strangeland of the same name. A character who has suppressed their own voice to the point that they have blended into the shadows, their story lost amongst the white noise of the world. Through the song we experience their journey as they wrestle with their frustration and sorrow at how they have ended up this way.

"It's a powerful, energetic piece that pushes each member of
TesseracT to a next level of musicianship and expression. And continues to shine a light upon the diversity that can be expected from War Of Being."

Alongside the release of the single is a fully functional, immersive video game titled War Of Being. Launched on 11th August, the user can enter the world of the album bridging the gap between listening and experience to create a living, breathing concept that brings you closer to the world of TesseracT than ever before.

In celebration of the early access game, the band have made a visualiser for the single which incorporates areas seen in the game alongside the track itself. The visualiser, made by Amos Williams, is available to view here: https://youtu.be/LvLMaL0THhw

In the game’s ‘Early Access’ fans can expect to explore several surreal landscapes, meet characters from the concept of War Of Being and solve puzzles in order to unlock parts of TesseracT’s second single ‘The Grey'. The end of the game will unlock the full song where the player can listen from within the same breathtaking landscapes used in the ‘War Of Being’ music video.

After finishing the album recording in August 2022, singer and frontman of TesseracT, Daniel Tompkins immediately began his focus on developing the War Of Being VR and desktop computer game based entirely on the album’s original concept, created by Amos Williams and himself. Tompkins is the lead designer and developer of the game alongside Adam Boyt (Programmer / Developer) and Kirsty Harvey (3D Designer).

Regarding the game Dan said the following:

"As a keen gamer and live streamer, I have always understood the potential waiting for a musical project to bridge the gap between the gaming and music worlds and with such a visually stunning concept, I could see that this was the perfect opportunity to bring it to life in virtual reality and as a desktop game.

"This has been without a doubt the biggest project I have personally ever undertaken and is a huge achievement for our developers. It has pushed us to our absolute limits and I'm so proud to have accomplished the beginnings of a fully developed game on Steam."

The game will be available exclusively on Steam for £4.99 UK and playable in VR on Viva / Rift S and Oculus accompanied by a SteamDeck playable version.

War Of Being was recorded at Middle Farm Studios in the United Kingdom with Peter Miles (Architects/Sylosis/Dodie) co-producing with the band alongside Katherine Marsh of Choir Noir (Bring Me The Horizon / Architects / Marillion). Assisting with additional programming and production, the band were joined by Randy Slaugh (PeripheryArchitectsDevin Townsend). With additional engineering by Forrester Savell (Karnivool). The artwork, which features characters ‘ex’ and ‘el’ was created in collaboration between AI and human as a means to extend the concept into its presentation.

Alongside the brand new album the band will be embarking on a worldwide tour that will begin in 2023 running through to 2024, performing shows throughout the US, EU, UK, Asia and Australia with support from IntervalsUnprocessedAlluvial and The Callous Daoboys.

Hail The Sun release album and new single 'Tunnel Vision Alibi'

Californian rock quintet Hail The Sun have released their new album, Divine Inner Tension, out now via Rude Records (UK/EU) / Equal Vision Records (ROW). The band have also shared their new single 'Tunnel Vision Alibi'.

Helmed by notable producer Kris CrummettDivine Inner Tension finds the veteran rock band questioning what it means to be here and to be alive, on both a micro level - where the importance of our existence is profound and paramount - and on a macro one - where our time on this planet is nothing but irrelevant and insignificant.

One of the main epiphanies California's Hail The Sun had when making this new album was understanding that inspiration didn’t have to come from a place of despair, and letting go of the idea that an artist needs to be tortured in order to create. Instead, the band looked beyond the viscerally emotional to the more spiritual and even enlisted the help of Ice Nine Kills’ Joe Occhiuti, who is also involved with vocalist Donovan Melero’s Kill Iconic Records, on a number of tracks.

On the album, Melero admits: “This is the first album we’ve written that didn’t come exclusively from a place of suffering or pain. Sadness, heartbreak and nihilism all inspire, but during the pandemic, there was a big shift, and this is more about retelling the story - retelling stories about everyday perceptions. Everything comes from within, so I thought that maybe I don’t have to suffer to feel inspired.”

Though that idea flows through the entirety of the record, it’s best captured by 'The Story Writes Itself', a song that both figuratively and literally sits at the centre of the album. A typically impassioned blast of progressive post-hardcore, it frames the relationship between the universe and the self, and the tension and connection between them, that is so central to this album’s themes. Elsewhere, on '60-Minute Session Blocks' the band grapples with the notion of identity, examining the way people change and fluctuate, often deliberately over time. But then that’s followed immediately by 'Maladapted', which counters that idea completely, instead reverting to the notion of letting go of the self and instead trusting the universe. It’s a journey that began for Melero in 2020, when he was in a particularly bad place.

“I was going through a painful separation and really feeling low. Just worthless,” he says. “And mixed with that, the music industry was completely gone. So, I was searching for something more for myself; something bigger than myself. I was trying to find meaning in other things, and I got really into how powerful our thoughts are and the idea of attracting whatever it is we want into our existence. I felt an untapped potential that I always thought was there, but could really start to feel it. And that was the catalyst to beginning this new phase and this album, and that idea of just completely letting go.”

That, then, is the ultimate takeaway from Divine Inner Tension. It is possible to be both in and out of control at the same time. We just have to learn how. This album is the perfect guide for doing so, and as it ends with the urgently ominous 'Under The Floor', you’ll feel yourself finally letting go, finally understanding.

Dutch contemporary metal group Autarkh reveal new album details

Dutch contemporary metal outfit Autarkh (with ex-members of Dodecahedron and members of Inferum and Dear Mother) have revealed their new album, Emergent.

Their second industrial offering will be released via Season of Mist on 10th November, 2023.

Pre-orders and the first single from the album will be revealed soon.

Autarkh frontman Michel Nienhuis comments: “We are thrilled to announce the upcoming release of our sophomore full-length Emergent. The songs and storyline took shape in 2022 and were eventually funneled into an album with nine tracks that we recorded this year. We feel this is a next step in our artistic development – Emergent has a more open, diverse and radiant imprint that sheds light on different musical influences that inspire us. We are satisfied with the increased versatility and contrast this album has to offer, and we can’t wait to share it with the world!”

With nine tracks, Emergent is a sonic exploration of the inner universe where all things light and dark can be encountered. With exciting vocal harmonies, bold contrasts and a vivid imagination, Autarkh sheds a bright light on the inner self and exposes it to the world with intensity and conviction.

Once again, Michel Nienhuis, (Dodecahedron) has teamed up with guitarist/producer David Luiten (Inferum), bassist Desmond Kuijk (Dear Mother) and electronics wizard Tijnn Verbruggen to create the follow-up to their highly acclaimed debut album Form In Motion, released by Season of Mist on 12 March 2021. Monica Kendrick (Chicago Reader, US) on the relevance of the group’s debut:

"And I’ll call it now: given the time to flourish and sink into the ears of an audience, Autarkh will become highly influential on the next generation of extreme metal."

Emergent is another testament to Autarkh’s imagination and creativity. It delivers increased versatility and contrast, and sees the band expand towards more uplifting and consonant territories. Form In Motion explored the boundaries of sonic extremes; on Emergent, Autarkh broadens their horizon and shows diversity and nuance while preserving their intense and razor-sharp edge.

With nine tracks, Emergent is a sonic exploration of the inner universe where all things light and dark can be encountered. The listener is lured into an 'Open Focus' (a meditative state of mind) in preparation for an inward journey along the physical energy centres. From the thumping synth basses of 'Strife' and the menacing sludgy melancholy of 'Duhkha', we move into the bewildering blasts of 'Trek', where stellar harmonies will eventually burst through the oppressive atmosphere. The trip continues with the crushing downtempo groove that enforces 'Refocus', as well as the mind-bending a-capella interlude 'Aperture', the frivolous 'Eye Of Horus' and 'Countless Kaleidoscopes', to finally deliver all-encompassing enlightenment with 'Ka'.

Composers Nienhuis’s and Luiten’s statements and states of mind capture the same capriciousness and unease of Form In Motion, this time leaving a more open, diverse and radiant imprint. With exciting vocal harmonies, bold contrasts and a vivid imagination, Autarkh sheds a bright light on the inner self and exposes it to the world with intensity and conviction. That makes Emergent an evocative release with a multi-layered yet crystal-clear production, that promises a bright future for Autarkh.

Dead Icarus sign to MNRK Music Group & release video for new single 'Sellout'

Dead Icarus, the new project of former Atreyu lead vocalist and Gold-selling artist Alex Varkatzas, has officially signed a worldwide deal with MNRK Heavy

To herald this exciting news, Dead Icarus have released a video for their new single 'Sellout'.

Check out the video for 'Sellout' here: https://youtu.be/Wx-T3SCVi3g

Stream/purchase 'Sellout' here: https://deadicarus.ffm.to/sellout.OYD

'Sellout' is a hyperkinetic slab of fast-paced, face-ripping metal with layered vocals and a pit-clearing breakdown. The song shows off a different side of the artist's musical personality. It hits hard, but it's also infused with a melody that just won't quit.

This is the first taste of new music, with a full-length project slated for Spring 2024.

Scott GivensMNRK’s SVP of Rock & Metal, says: Alex’s new project has our whole Heavy team excited.  He has put together an incredible project with an amazing group of musicians.”

Alex says: “I am beyond excited and grateful for Dead Icarus to be joining the MNRK Heavy family. MNRK understands my musical vision and has provided me with free reign over all aspects of my musical journey. I cannot wait to share what has been created as a result of this unadulterated trust. This is the most honest, painful, angry, and optimistic music I have ever created. This is my road to redemption and the truth.”

A staple of Ozzfest in the mid-2000s with two gold albums, Atreyu are one of the defining bands of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal, alongside groups like Avenged Sevenfold and Lamb Of God. Metalcore classics like The Curse and A Death-Grip on Yesterday were powered by Alex’s distinctive scream.

UK alt-punks Call to the Faithful release video for new single 'Knife to a Gunfight'

Call to the Faithful have shared a music video for their new single 'Knife to a Gunfight'. Following first single 'Let Me Down', the second single from the band's upcoming debut EP STRONG / STABLE / SUFFER is a politically charged, purposeful fight for the underdog.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/endW7FM9Vck

Stream the song here: https://lnk.to/KNIFETOAGUNFIGHT

On 'Knife to a Gunfight', the band comment: "This song is us taking aim at the government, the hopeless succession of party leaders and how powerless we felt to change anything. The odds are deliberately stacked against us by those with the power which they abuse and the desperate depths they will go to in order to keep the balance weighted in their favour. The metaphor of having a knife at a gunfight is representative of that power imbalance and how the public will always be the underdog in the fight for equality, but we want to inspire people to show that sometimes, if we work together, perhaps the underdogs can win that fight."

Peterborough alt-punk quartet Call to the Faithful have been winning over fans with their electrifying live shows and passionate performances across the UK. The band was born out of a burning desire to shake things up and inspire a new generation of the disillusioned to fight for what they believe in. Following opening single ‘Let Me Down’, a track which elevated the band's rising reputation internationally with placement on Apple Music’s New Rock editorial playlists, Call to the Faithful are clapping back with Knife to a Gunfight. It's the second offering from their debut EP STRONG / STABLE / SUFFER, and a fierce declaration of their unyielding spirit and uncompromising vision.

With influences that range from nu-metal to punk, the band refuse to be pigeonholed. Their music is a raw, unapologetic expression of the frustration, anger and passion inspired by the modern age. Whether they're delivering blistering guitar riffs or spitting acerbic vocal hooks, this band makes their presence felt.

But Call to the Faithful are more than just a band; they're a movement. They're a voice for a generation that refuses to be silenced or marginalised. Their music is both anthemic and introspective, exploring themes of resilience, perseverance, and hope in the face of adversity. It speaks to the struggles and triumphs of young people today, whether it's the fight for social justice, the battle against mental illness, or the search for meaning in a world that often seems cruel and senseless.

Drawing influences from TurnstileFrank Carter & The Rattlesnakes and Kid Kapichi, the quartet have positioned themselves firmly on the live circuit with their own tour in April 2022, on top of supporting the likes of Press ClubKill The LightsTom Lumley & The Brave Liaison and Glitchers. 2023 will see the band continue to hit the road across the UK with another tour announced to promote the EP in September 2023, with appearances at Lume Fest London (alongside Dream State & Lake Malice), Breaking Bands Festival and Willow Fest Peterborough already under their belt.

German death metal powerhouse Necrotted release video for new single 'Imperator'

German slamming death metallers Necrotted have released a video for their new single 'Imperator'. The track is taken from their crushing fifth album Imperium, due for release on 22nd September via Reaper Entertainment.

Check out the video for 'Imperator' here: https://youtu.be/PLTRWlfZ3CE

Stream 'Imperator' here: https://necrotted.bfan.link/imperator-1

Musically the five Swabians experiment one again, combining elements of death metal with black metal, garnished with parts of the core spectrum. Lyrically, 'Imperator' is the highlight of the storyline that has weaved throughout the band's last two albums. The lyrics are written in English and German, which adds spice to the dismal mood and the topic of the song - the final moral and psychological decline of the protagonist.

New album Imperium marks another milestone in the band’s history. Another concept album, the LP develops the elaborate storyline of its predecessor with great detail. Necrotted continue to tread experimental musical paths; their proven recipe of melodic guitar riffs, thundering blast beats and oppressive slams is combined with immersing black metal elements. Written mostly in English, the lyrics also contain passages in the German native language, which are performed with banefully deep growls and strident screams.

The band add: "We're extremely happy to announce that in September 2023 - just in time for our 15th band anniversary - our fifth studio album will see the light of day. The new long-player will bear the name 'Imperium' and will be released via our label Reaper Entertainment. Already today, we'd like to present you the cover artwork and the tracklist of the upcoming album. The artwork for Imperium was once again illustrated by 3D designer Robin Schneider and perfectly visualises the evolving, elaborate storyline that builds on the acclaimed predecessor Operation: Mental Castration. It fits brilliantly with the album's dystopian, socio-political themes and dark musical atmosphere."

Fast, brutal, slamming, with a distinct message in their music: Necrotted from southern Germany are a bearer of hope for modern death metal.

Founded in 2008, the band from Abtsgmünd (Baden-Wuerttemberg) boast four full-length albums Anchors Apart (2012), Utopia 2.0 (2014), Worldwide Warfare (2017) and Operation: Mental Castration (2021), as well as two EPs Kingdom Of Hades (2010) and Die For Something Worthwhile (2019). The quintet have also earned a reputation as a ferocious live act, with extensive international touring alongside I Declare WarHackneyedCytotoxinAcraniusOsiahParasite Inc, and supported many big names including HatebreedKataklysmHeaven Shall BurnDying Fetus and Obituary.

Sweeping melodic guitar riffs combined with blaring blastbeats and stomping slam are the foundation of Necrotted's intense sound. This supports they deeply guttural and high-pitched peircing vocals, that deliver the band's deep conceptional lyrics.

2023 promises to be a huge year for Necrotted.

Finnish symphonic extreme metallers Shade Empire release stunning new single/lyric video 'Maroon'

Finnish symphonic extreme metallers Shade Empire have released their thought-provoking third single, 'Maroon'. The track is taken from their sixth studio album, Sunholy, set for release on 15th September via Candlelight Records

Check out the single ‘Maroon’ here: https://youtu.be/pOYD7eP3Qa8

Pre-save Sunholy here: https://CandlelightRecords.lnk.to/ShadeEmpireSunholy

The band comments: "We think that 'Maroon' is one of the finest compositions of our career so far. This is not just a song but a journey that requires you to hopefully stop by and listen. 'Maroon' proves also that Henry is one of the most versatile vocalists in Finland as this track showcases his wide scale."

Formed in Kuopio, Finland in 1999, Shade Empire have developed their own genre, an unholy fusion of symphonic melody interwoven with black and death metal overtones, emotionally rich vocals and tight orchestral instrumentation. New album Sunholy features nine towering tracks of atmospheric beauty, barbed with unspeakably brutal guitar patterns, multi-layered beautiful synth walls, devastating drum parts, complex bass assaults and unique vocals that are delivered straight from the jaws of hell. Fans of Dimmu BorgirMardukSepticflesh and Dark Tranquility will find something here.

Mixed by Chris Edrich (Devin Townsend, Leprous, Alcest) and mastered by Pierrick Noël (Klone), with Fleshgod Apocalypse's Francesco Ferrini responsible for the orchestrations and Andy Reich at Collapse Of Art completing the artwork, Sunholy is a long-aged piece of art and labour of love. Embodying the most comprehensive Shade Empire effort to date, the lyrics are thematically inspired by the Jonestown tragedy, a mass murder-suicide of the Peoples Temple cult, but there's also a fuller contemplation and exploration of the current state of the world.

About Shade Empire

Since 1999 Shade Empire have strived to forge their own sound. Hailing from Finland, the band inked a deal with Italian label Avantgarde Records for the release of their first critically acclaimed album Sinthetic (2004). Success was to follow in 2006 with their follow-up release Intoxicate O.S, which had been recorded at the famous Studio Perkele, and in its opening week achieved position 25 in the official Finnish charts. Their third release, concept album Zero Nexus (2008) took them higher into the Finnish charts, debuting at no 15. Fourth album Omega Arcane (#13 in the album charts) was released via Candlelight Records in 2014 with Poetry Of The Ill-Minded (#16th) following in 2017. The band have toured with bands such as UnleashedKrisiun, Borknagar and appeared at numerous festivals worldwide.

Through years of embracing honesty and channelling hardships into expression, To Kill Achilles are ready to embark on their next chapter with their brand new full-length.

The band comment:

Recovery … why recovery? … why recovery? … why recovery? … Well, because the only way out is to get better? We can’t live here any more. The light that peers through the crack in the door is a message. It’s time to feel grateful for what we have and to realise and the time we spend here is precious. There’s a beautiful world outside those four walls, we just need to be brave enough to open the door.”

To Kill Achilles recently announced a UK headline tour in support of the album, dates are as follows:

Sep 08: London 229
Sep 09: Exeter Cavern Club
Sep 10: Derby The Hairy Dog
Sep 16: Glasgow Garage Attic

Consisting of 11 tracks, Recovery is full of the same ferocity we've come to expect from To Kill Achilles, with sincere lyrics depicting real life experiences. The music is a mixture of aggression, sadness, hope and beauty, with soaring choruses and tear-jerking storytelling that promotes the journey towards positivity.

To Kill Achilles have extensively toured across the UK, the majority of Europe and Russia with bands such as We Came As RomansCounterparts, While She Sleeps, I Killed The Prom Queen, Betraying The Martyrs and many more.
