Dorian Electra releases eccentric, playful new single 'Puppet'

Hyperpop artist Dorian Electra (they/them) has released their eccentric, playful new single 'Puppet'. The track is taken from their hotly-anticipated album Fanfare, due for release on 6th October.

There are few artists that can open a song with an interpolation of Beethoven’s 'Für Elise', before blasting into crunchy synths and trap hi-hats but, as always, Dorian Electra continues to elevate pop music to new extremes and new single 'Puppet' is no different. The release sees Dorian once again playing with the idea of control - a theme strewn throughout their forthcoming album Fanfare - with their tongue-in-cheek lyrics. Accompanying the single is a music video, directed by Weston Allen and Dorian, which sees them controlled and bound by the 'Puppet' master as they become the object of their own design.

Fanfare is the pop provocateur’s third album and sees them explore parasocial relationships, from the claims we stake on figureheads' lives to taking in obsession, idolatry and pop culture as modern mythology. Throughout the record, Dorian blurs the lines between love and hate, fandom and control whilst also seeing them flip and rewrite narratives imposed by a heteronormative society. Working with a cast of creatives, including long-time collaborators Clarence Clarity and Weston Allen, alongside Casey MQCount Baldor and Klaxons’ Jamie ReynoldsFanfare asks what we expect - or demand - from our public figures. Fanfare sees Dorian Electra once again display their unique abilities as a shapeshifting musician, visual artist, fashionista, joker, internet philosopher and more with eyes focused forward.

Those yet enlightened must revisit Electra’s first two albums - the world building 2019 album Flamboyant and 2020’s edgy, provocative My AgendaDorian’s music masterfully blends together an assortment of genres, including pop, metal, jazz, medieval, epic baroque, classical, EDM, and more. It’s why they’ve been able to collaborate with such a wide range of artists including Lady GagaCharli XCX100 gecsThe Village PeoplePussy RiotRebecca Black, and more.

Electra spent most of 2022 busy at work on their forthcoming project, which sees them examining the socio-political effects of internet culture and the rise of the parasocial relationship. DAZED visited them in the studio early last year, read about that wild experience HERE

UK alt-punks Call to the Faithful release video for new single 'Fallout'

Alt-punk quartet Call to the Faithful release their debut EP STRONG/STABLE/SUFFER today. To celebrate, the band have shared a music video for 'Fallout', making it the third single from the EP, after 'Let Me Down' and 'Knife to a Gunfight'.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/RatDUpbNL6A

Stream the EP here: https://lnk.to/STRONG_STABLE_SUFFER

The band comment: "'Fallout' highlights a deep societal issue of hate and prejudice with outdated views still sadly being spouted by many. It feels like the “fashionable” target today is the trans community and sadly we still see so much misplaced offence at their existence. This song is calling out those hateful idiots on their bullsh*t and reminding them that the earth will be better once their prejudices are buried with them."

Peterborough alt-punk quartet Call to the Faithful have been winning over fans with their electrifying live shows and passionate performances across the UK. The band was born out of a burning desire to shake things up and inspire a new generation of the disillusioned to fight for what they believe in.

With influences that range from nu-metal to punk, the band refuse to be pigeonholed. Their music is a raw, unapologetic expression of the frustration, anger and passion inspired by the modern age. Whether they're delivering blistering guitar riffs or spitting acerbic vocal hooks, this band makes their presence felt.

But Call to the Faithful are more than just a band; they're a movement. They're a voice for a generation that refuses to be silenced or marginalised. Their music is both anthemic and introspective, exploring themes of resilience, perseverance, and hope in the face of adversity. It speaks to the struggles and triumphs of young people today, whether it's the fight for social justice, the battle against mental illness, or the search for meaning in a world that often seems cruel and senseless.

Drawing influences from TurnstileFrank Carter & The Rattlesnakes and Kid Kapichi, the quartet have positioned themselves firmly on the live circuit with their own tour in April 2022, on top of supporting the likes of Press ClubKill The LightsTom Lumley & The Brave Liaison and Glitchers. 2023 will see the band continue to hit the road across the UK with another tour announced to promote the EP in September 2023, with appearances at Lume Fest London (alongside Dream State & Lake Malice), Breaking Bands Festival and Willow Fest Peterborough already under their belt.

UK alt-rockers Nature Trip return with new single/video 'Feel Good'

Brighton-based alternative rock band Nature Trip have released a music video for their brand new single 'Feel Good'. The track was recorded and produced by Tigercub frontman Jamie Hall in Brighton Electric Studios.

Watch the video to 'Feel Good' here: https://youtu.be/oApiEPVt6tg

Stream here: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/naturetrip/feel-good

On the new single, frontman and songwriter Ales states: "We wanted to make the song sound big. Drums in studio 2 sound huge and guitar amps cranked all the way up to ten are adding the spark. I think you can hear how it breathes. Lyrically, the song is about misinformation; how easy it is to say everything or nothing is true and one can never be sure anymore."

Guitarist Vit adds: "Jamie has the guts to go over the edge, especially when it comes to playing around with distortion. Brighton Electric is a second home for him and Tigercub records which we always loved."

Nature Trip’s new single celebrates the comeback of classic alt-rock to the radios, following the established names in the genre like US-based Teenage Wrist and Narrowhead, while also musically inclining towards the uprising British rock talents like Wunderhorse and Tigercub.

It all started in 2019 when three friends moved across the channel and started a band in Brighton, UK. Powered by the new environment of the Brighton music scene, they slowly climbed up to sold-out shows in their new hometown. Taking advantage of their Praguer roots, Nature Trip also regularly tour the Czech Republic. The band's 2022 debut album New Connections was featured on Kerrang! Radio in the UK and Radio 1 in Czech Republic, followed by sold-out headline shows in both territories.

In 2023 Nature Trip have been working on new material with producer/Tigercub frontman Jamie Hall. The first single ‘Feel Good’ was recorded in Studio 2 in the famous Brighton Electric Studios and mixed by LA-based Sonny Dipperi (Narrow HeadDIIVDevil Wears Prada). Both names suggest the musical direction of the band has shifted towards heavy rock.

The band comment on the new single:

"That one amazing night - a fleeting moment in time where people share the same intangible experience. Energy washing over, transporting you to a far off planet. 24 hours in one second - free from everything. But with guitars… for about three minutes!"

Tijuana Bibles have also announced an album release show, set to take place in Glasgow.

Full live dates:

Sep 09: Dunfermline Outwith Festival
Dec 16: Glasgow King Tut's (album release show)

Uproarious, hellacious, all-killer hooks and chaotic dissonance. Tijuana Bibles come careering from the studio with reckless abandon and an immersive new agenda.

Tipped by Jack Saunders as a Next Wave on BBC Radio 1’s Indie Show, Tijuana Bibles have captivated global airwaves, with support from KEXP (US), KCRW (US), and Mexico’s biggest rock radio station IBERO 90.9, who included their single 'Pariah' in their Top 5 songs of the year.

Anyone that has bore witness to their live shows will attest that Tijuana Bibles' unique alchemy and charisma translates perfectly from the studio into the realm of live performance.

Packing out basement venues from Paris to Poznań, guerrilla gigs on the streets of their travels have punctuated huge festival appearances at Reading & LeedsIsle Of Wight Festival, Spain’s Kutxa Kultur, Germany’s Reeperbahn and Austin, Texas’ SXSW

Tijuana Bibles hotly-anticipated new material is propulsive, volatile and unencumbered by any expectation of what fans may have come to expect.

Acclaimed singles 'Human Touch' and 'Stateless' lit the fuse on Tijuana Bibles' debut album - the anthemic new single 'The Wave' is about to launch it into the stratosphere.

Twelve warped hymns for the disenchanted generation…

Themes of frustration, anxiety and isolation find escape in the dark underbelly of a desolate city. Vulnerable inner moments transform, rewild, taking aim at the political glitterati as melodies violently explode into the abyss.

New music for the new world… This is the sound of modern dystopia.

Tijuana Bibles are:

Tony Costello - vocals
Danny Costello - bass
James Brannigan - guitar
Mikey Dornan - drums

Black metallers Deitus show no sign of slowing down this year, with the release of their new single 'A Thousand Razors'. The standalone track follows hot on the heels of their most recent album Irreversible which was released to critical acclaim via Candlelight Records in July.

Comments Deitus on the new single:

"‘A Thousand Razors’ was recorded during the Irreversible sessions back in September 2022, although we later decided against using it on the album. We felt this spiteful hymn deserved its own separate release. Get down on your knees and tremble in the splendour of heinous light!!"

Formed in 2004 in York (UK), Deitus create sonic terror through the medium of black metal with no limits and no compromises. The band's core line-up has remained a stable 3-piece since their inception, taking inspiration from such artists as DissectionSlayerGG AllinFields of the Nephilim and Bathory.

Deitus produce raw, dark and melodic soundscapes that have helped to win them high praise for their notorious, blood-drenched, rabid, violent live performances across the UK, Europe, United States and Mexico. They have received attention for bringing an unpredictable and dangerous element back into the live setting and have played alongside such esteemed bands as MayhemShiningHellhammerRotting Christ and also at various festivals across the globe including Bloodstock Festival (UK), Netherlands Deathfest (NL), Odyssey To Blasphemy (DE), Winter Rising (FR) and Sangre Y Fuego para Mictlantecuhtli (MX).

Their most recent album Irreversible was engineered by Greg Chandler at Priory Recording Studios with mixing and mastering completed by Tore Stjerna at Necromorbus Studio and cover art by Santiago Caruso.  It follows on from their two highly-acclaimed studio albums to date, Acta Non Verba (2016) and Via Dolorosa (2018).

Legendary psych-rock band Gong announce new album and reveal new single/video

Following the success of 2019’s The Universe Also Collapses, legendary psych-rock troupe Gong’s intergalactic voyage has once more entered Earth’s orbit, with their new album Unending Ascending.

Set for release on 3rd November via Kscope, the new album promises to offer yet another mind-expanding set of songs.

Pre-order the album and stream the first single, 'Tiny Galaxies', here: https://gong.lnk.to/unending

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/jqoFLJlxpWw

Regarding the single, frontman Kavus Torabi had the following to say:

“‘Tiny Galaxies’ came together very quickly and we loved it so much, we road tested it around the UK and Europe throughout the summer of last year before we recorded it.

"The fantastic response we received playing it out made it the obvious choice as the first song to drop ahead of our new release. Pick the telescope up for a total headtrip through the cosmos in three and a half minutes, but, for all our sakes, don’t look down the other end.”

Accompanying the single and the announcement of the new album comes the video that brings the vibrant world of Gong to life. Created by Drain Hope, it’s the perfect visual representation to ‘Tiny Galaxies’.

Kavus Torabi continues:

“Once again Drain Hope has illuminated our theta waves into this beautifully kaleidoscopic vision.”

Opener ‘Tiny Galaxies’ crackles with the electricity of supercharged sixties psych-pop, while ‘My Guitar Is A Spaceship’ is as close to an anthem as anything Gong have previously recorded. This uptempo, single-riff stomper is already a live favourite, garnering a positive reaction from a crowd of 90,000 Blur fans at Wembley Stadium in July 2023, when Gong frontman Kavus Torabi dropped it into his DJ set before Paul Weller took to the stage.

‘Ship of Ishtar’ is a rapt cosmic hymn where Gong make time itself stand still. Jet streams of kaleidoscopic melodies envelop ‘O, Arcturus’, to be followed by the lively polyrhythmic angularity of ‘All Clocks Reset’. ‘Choose Your Goddess’, a surprisingly muscular slice of ritualistic trance rock, ratchets up the intensity yet further. On ‘Lunar Invocation’ the band summons the Moon deities of yore with ululating feedback and squalling cymbals before the post-credits of ‘Asleep Do We Lay’ lull lugubriously, gently beginning the cycle all over again.

Gong’s Unending Ascending will be available on CD / Black LP / Limited edition Green LP and Digitally.

Gong will be appearing alongside Ozric Tentacles on a co-headline tour throughout the UK in November/December 2023 as well as ‘The Last Blast’ Tour in 2024.

About Gong:

The universe of Gong began in 1969 when Daevid Allen was inspired by a profound psychedelic vision. A founder member of Soft MachineAllen incorporated his spiritual and metaphysical leanings into an evolving collective. More a mythology than a band in the conventional sense, Gong established itself as one of the most unique, innovative and experimental rock groups of the seventies, through an exploratory mix of rock, jazz and psychedelia with elements of mysticism and surrealism, unafraid to deliver its messages directly, obliquely or whimsically. The current incarnation, who were put together by Daevid after his swansong album with GongI See You, honour his intention that Gong do not die with him, urging the band to “carry it on into new unknown heights and depths far beyond anything I could ever imagine myself”.

The collective of Kavus TorabiDave SturtFabio GolfettiIan East and Cheb Nettles is the most stable in Gong's illustrious history, having written, recorded and toured together for eight years since Allen's passing. A dynamic, powerful and explosive live band, their music draws from the credo of the original Gong while remaining committed to pushing the composition, performances and message into new realms, paying no mind to nostalgia. Gong in 2023 continue the ethics, attitude and lifestyle that was always woven into the fabric of the band.

POWERWOLF make history with Augmented Reality European festival show

Photo Credit: Matteo Vdiva Fabbiani for VD Pictures

German power metal titans POWERWOLF set another milestone in their career, and made live music history, with the use of augmented reality at a live music festival in Europe during their headline set at Summer Breeze Festival in Germany.

Their show featured one of the biggest productions ever, during which POWERWOLF performed in front of tens of thousands of fans.

Together with ARTE Concert and the 0221 Mediaagentur, using video game technology, they created a monstrous wolf above the stage in real time during the set, visible by both fans on site, as well as devotees watching the livestream from all over the world. The wolf was visible four times during the set, during their hits 'Incense & Iron', 'Amen & Attack', 'Beast Of Gévaudan' and 'Resurrection By Erection'.

The show at Summer Breeze was yet another demonstration of power by POWERWOLF, who currently reign as Germany’s most actively successful artist right now. With the biggest pyro show of the festival, a mass of actors on stage, a huge fireworks display and a band in top form in front of the biggest crowd of the entire festival, the high priests of heavy metal have impressively underlined their status as the leading force in the genre.

Watch POWERWOLF's momentous show here: https://youtu.be/fwLiF6_TVyE

POWERWOLF are undoubtedly one of the most celebrated and successful heavy metal bands of the last decade. Multiple #1 album chart entries, gold and platinum records, huge sold out arena shows, as well as headline slots at the biggest festivals have paved their way. In less than 20 years of band history, POWERWOLF have made it to the very highest league of heavy metal.

ABOUT POWERWOLF:

The story of POWERWOLF, beginning in 2004, reads like a true fairytale, but is the result of the most hard-working and entertaining live band on the heavy metal planet. POWERWOLF has not only received plenty of Gold and Platinum awards to date, but numerous releases have entered the official German album charts at the top position of #1. With Blessed & Possessed (2015), POWERWOLF achieved Gold status (in the Czech Republic) for the first time, while its predecessor, Preachers Of The Night (2013), hit the official German album charts at #1, and the incredible DVD, The Metal Mass (2016), came in at #1 of the German DVD-Charts. POWERWOLF's holy mass in the name of heavy metal is unstoppable – their latest magnum opus, The Sacrament of Sin (2018), again entered the album charts at #1. The accompanying, almost completely sold out Wolfsnächte headline tour – in which POWERWOLF headlined large venues with their phenomenal stage performances – became a single major triumph, as well as the numerous summer festival shows in which crowds were thrilled and completely captivated by the Wolves and their unique, (un)holy metal mass. With the new studio album, Call Of The Wild, and the Wolfsnächte 2021 tour charging through the largest halls in Europe, 2021 will again be a year completely under the sign of the wolf pack.

POWERWOLF are:
Attila Dorn – vocals
Falk Maria Schlegel – organ
Charles Greywolf – guitar
Matthew Greywolf – guitar
Roel van Helden – drums
