Dorian Electra new album and video for shape-shifting, glittering single 'Idolize'

Dorian Electra (they/them), the “pop star who defies genres” (New York Times), releases their new album Fanfare, following a slate of critical praise from BillboardVManDazedThe Needle Drop and more.

The release comes with the high energy pop track 'Idolize', alongside a video directed by Electra and Weston Allen. It sees Dorian, an icon worshiped by their adoring fans, dressed as a sexy Napoleon-like popstar-dictator and their likeness carved into a Greek statue.

Stream/purchase Fanfare here: https://ffm.to/dorianelectrafanfare

Fanfare is the pop provocateur’s third album and sees them explore parasocial relationships, from the claims we stake on figureheads' lives to taking in obsession, idolatry and pop culture as modern mythology. Throughout the record, Dorian blurs the lines between love and hate, fandom and control. Working with a cast of creatives, including long-time collaborators Clarence Clarity and Weston Allen, alongside Casey MQCount Baldor and Klaxons’ Jamie ReynoldsFanfare asks what we expect - or demand - from our public figures. Fanare blends sounds from pop to metal, jazz and classical - elevating them all in a distinctly Dorian Electra perspective.

Those yet enlightened must revisit Electra’s first two albums - the world building 2019 album Flamboyant and 2020’s edgy, provocative My AgendaDorian’s music masterfully blends together an assortment of genres, including pop, metal, jazz, medieval, epic baroque, classical, EDM, and more. It’s why they’ve been able to collaborate with such a wide range of artists including Lady GagaCharli XCX100 gecsThe Village PeoplePussy RiotRebecca Black, and more.

Electra spent most of 2022 busy at work on their forthcoming project, which sees them examining the socio-political effects of internet culture and the rise of the parasocial relationship. DAZED visited them in the studio early last year, read about that wild experience HERE

German metalcore quartet MAVIS release new single/video 'Furry Tongue'

German metalcore quartet MAVIS have released their second-ever single, the eye-catchingly-named 'Furry Tongue', out now via Arising Empire

Check out the video for 'Furry Tongue' here: https://youtu.be/q-BoUL6gZKA

Featuring vocalist Phil Donay, guitarist Manu Weller, bass player Mo Amrein, and drummer Jakob Schulz-KleinMAVIS stunned the music world with their recent release, 'Tortured Land'. Now they're back, venturing even further into uncharted musical territory with their new single, 'Furry Tongue'. This latest masterpiece is a harmonious chaos, elegantly flitting between time signatures while maintaining a fluid, danceable rhythm.

“The complexity of ‘Furry Tongue’ didn't compromise its groove. Achieving a song you can dance to was a pinnacle for us", shares lead singer Phil.

'Furry Tongue' is a musical narrative that mirrors its lyrical content – it dances on the edge of intuition and overanalysis, exploring the tenuous balance that exists between the two and the exploitation that can arise from either extreme. Phil equates this delicate balancing act to the uncomfortable yet familiar sensation of a furry tongue.

Audiences are led on an auditory journey, meandering through exquisite melodies and clean vocals before being plunged into the intense, arresting breakdown riffs, a testament to MAVIS’s skillful songwriting and performance prowess.

If 'Tortured Land' was an introduction to their dynamism, 'Furry Tongue' solidifies their position as forerunners in innovative metalcore.

The visual component, a collaboration with Danny Jakov (deadapefilms), encapsulates the song’s essence. It oscillates between cerebral choreography and instinctive movement, translating the lyrical and musical duality into a visual spectacle that accentuates the emotive power of 'Furry Tongue'. In this immersive experience, MAVIS reaffirms that they’re not just musicians - they’re storytellers, blurring the boundaries between genres and artistic mediums.

Melodic hardcore quintet Forecast deliver intense new single/video 'Naked'

Italian melodic hardcore outfit Forecast release their new EP Utopia today. To celebrate, the band have shared a video for new single 'Naked', directed by Lewis Cater (ArchitectsAll Time LowSum 41). This emotional rollercoaster of a track is the final offering from Utopia, following 'Pollador' and 'Dniwer'.

Having faced numerous setbacks since moving to the UK from Italy in 2017, the band are finally in a position to build upon the promising underground success that saw them share the stage with the likes of Malevolence and Oceans Ate Alaska, as well as gathering hundreds of thousands of streams and views across streaming platforms with their single 'Vacant', all as a fully independent band.

The band comment: “'Naked' is an utter rollercoaster that varies from blast beats to slow ballad moments and tempo changes, all in a matter of seconds, and right from the very beginning! The vocal part is the glue that keeps all of these emotions together and keeps them from clashing.

"The song is clearly a love letter: resentment, anger, sadness, forgiveness and then love again, are all very perceivable feelings for the listener, especially for melodic hardcore and emo/post-rock lovers. The track has a one-minute long outro, that is necessary to recover from such emotional damage that the song has caused, leaving the listener to imagine the finale of their own story."

Forecast are a melodic hardcore band, blending hardcore sounds akin to Counterparts and It Prevails with melodic rock arrangements. Formed in Rome in 2013 and now based in London, the band released an EP in 2015 called Good Times Until They Become Good Memories, and later released the single 'Vacant' (2016) - the latter reaching over 400,000 views on YouTube. The band now have more than 500,000 streams on Spotify, and are back with a new concept EP titled Utopia, out today, 6th October. Legendary psych-rock band Gong unveil second single 'All Clocks Reset' with eye popping video

Following ‘Tiny Galaxies’, the first piece of their new intergalactic puzzle, legendary psych-rock troup Gong return for the second instalment from the forthcoming album Unending Ascending, out 3rd November via Kscope.

Regarding the new track, 'All Clocks Reset', the band had the following to say :

“Angular guitars! Pointillistic horns! Cataclysmic words! With gods and monsters on their tail, Gong insist you take a trip on the kinetic mainline to experience the dissolution of both ego and sense of self through the universal vehicle of knotty psychedelic rock. The apocalypse never felt so good.”

With a suitably cosmic video from long time live collaborator Fruit Salad Lights, 'All Clocks Reset’ takes the mind, body and spirit into realms that only Gong can conjure.

Following the success of 2019’s The Universe Also CollapsesGong’s intergalactic voyage has once more entered Earth’s orbit with their new album Unending Ascending.

Set for release on 3rd November 2023, the new album promises another mind-expanding set of songs. Opener ‘Tiny Galaxies’ crackles with the electricity of supercharged sixties psych-pop, while ‘My Guitar Is A Spaceship’ is as close to an anthem as anything Gong have previously recorded. This uptempo, single-riff stomper is already a live favourite, garnering a positive reaction from a crowd of 90,000 Blur fans at Wembley Stadium in July 2023, when Gong frontman Kavus Torabi dropped it into his DJ set before Paul Weller took to the stage.

‘Ship of Ishtar’ is a rapt cosmic hymn where Gong make time itself stand still. Jet streams of kaleidoscopic melodies envelop ‘O, Arcturus’, to be followed by the lively polyrhythmic angularity of ‘All Clocks Reset’. ‘Choose Your Goddess’, a surprisingly muscular slice of ritualistic trance rock, ratchets up the intensity yet further. On ‘Lunar Invocation’ the band summons the Moon deities of yore with ululating feedback and squalling cymbals before the post-credits of ‘Asleep Do We Lay’ lull lugubriously, gently beginning the cycle all over again.

Gong’s Unending Ascending will be available on CD / Black LP / Limited edition Green LP and Digitally.

Gong will be appearing alongside Ozric Tentacles on a co-headline tour throughout the UK in November/December 2023 as well as ‘The Last Blast’ Tour in 2024.

About Gong:

The universe of Gong began in 1969 when Daevid Allen was inspired by a profound psychedelic vision. A founder member of Soft MachineAllen incorporated his spiritual and metaphysical leanings into an evolving collective. More a mythology than a band in the conventional sense, Gong established itself as one of the most unique, innovative and experimental rock groups of the seventies, through an exploratory mix of rock, jazz and psychedelia with elements of mysticism and surrealism, unafraid to deliver its messages directly, obliquely or whimsically. The current incarnation, who were put together by Daevid after his swansong album with GongI See You, honour his intention that Gong do not die with him, urging the band to “carry it on into new unknown heights and depths far beyond anything I could ever imagine myself”.

The collective of Kavus TorabiDave SturtFabio GolfettiIan East and Cheb Nettles is the most stable in Gong's illustrious history, having written, recorded and toured together for eight years since Allen's passing. A dynamic, powerful and explosive live band, their music draws from the credo of the original Gong while remaining committed to pushing the composition, performances and message into new realms, paying no mind to nostalgia. Gong in 2023 continue the ethics, attitude and lifestyle that was always woven into the fabric of the band.

US screamo group Dreamwell reveal new single/video ft. Wounded Touch

US screamo ensemble Dreamwell have unveiled 'All Towers Drawn In The Equatorial Room', their newest single/video from upcoming second album In My Saddest Dreams, I Am Beside You - due for release on 20th October via Prosthetic Records.

The track features Nick Holland from Wounded Touch, and has an accompanying video (directed by William J. Hall // instagram.com/allwillpower) which can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/p-47cyg4COs

Stream the single and pre-order the album here: https://lnk.to/Dreamwell

Vocalist KZ Staska comments: "This is one of the bleakest songs I think I've ever written. I wrote an early version of these lyrics stream of consciousness style at the onset of a severe depressive episode. I remember writing until I felt done, walking away, and coming back to read what I wrote. I remember feeling really uncomfortable when I read the line 'I would bash my skull against a brick wall if you told me happiness might leak out.' I hated that a line like that came out of me organically, without thought. I knew that discomfort was important. I had to rewrite a lot of it to give it structure and make it make sense once music was written, but I made sure to keep that line exactly as I wrote it.

"This song uses the tarot and astrology imagery most heavily. It's about being so desperate for a single shred of hope that I turn to things I don't even believe in to try to find it. I tried to capture that same horrible depressive energy I felt when I wrote the song in the music video, but incorporate more of the ritualistic occult imagery from the narrative into it as well."

New album In My Saddest Dreams, I Am Beside You, is Dreamwell's follow-up to widely-lauded debut album Modern Grotesque.

The patchwork, stop-start approach taken to create their previous record served a hard-won purpose as the band refined their line-up and honed their sound. Their early trials by fire stood them in good stead as they started work with a clean slate and contemplated what would later take shape as In My Saddest Dreams, I Am Beside You - their first foray into consciously and deliberately writing an album, start to finish. The result is a blistering take on screamo, with flourishes of post-hardcore and metalcore for good measure.

Dreamwell demonstrate artistic influence drawn from a multitude of genres, from doom to black metal. Some artistic influences - such as Botch or The Blood Brothers - are easily distinguishable, whilst others - such as KhanateThe Mountain Goats or Elizabeth Cotten - are buried deep in the DNA of Dreamwell. The album was recorded at Format Audio in Dover, New Hampshire by Ryan Stack in September of 2022, bringing together a cohesion of sounds and ideas from a group of individuals operating perfectly in tune with each other.

Since their inception in 2017, Dreamwell have been refining and reshaping the parameters of what screamo can be. On In My Saddest Dreams, I Am Beside You, they have provided a structure within which their own chaotic take on the genre is able to flourish.

VENUES release video for new single 'Oblivion'

German post-hardcore quartet VENUES have released a video for their new single 'Oblivion', out now via Arising Empire. The track follows recent singles 'Haunted House''Cravings' and 'Reflections', as well as the band's critically acclaimed sophomore album Solace.

'Oblivion' promises an intimate journey through the intricate landscape of mental and emotional turmoil. The poignant lyrics unravel a compelling narrative of intense internal struggle, a reflection of the profound challenges tied to mental health issues and other overwhelming life obstacles.

Listeners are invited to a raw and unfiltered exploration of despair, contrasted starkly with elements of hope and the innate human desire for transformation. The song delves into the ambiguous and non-linear path of healing, underscoring the intricate dance between the darkness of struggle and the light of recovery.

The universal appeal of the new single lies in its relatability - the narrative, though deeply personal, resonates on a universal frequency, inviting each listener to attribute their own meanings and connections based on their own experiences and emotions.

Stay tuned as this single is expected to not only climb the charts, but also foster deeper conversations about mental health, resilience and the enigmatic journey to self-recovery and empowerment.

VENUES will support Future Palace in the UK later this month, as part of a wider European tour.

Dates are as follows:

Oct 10: London The Underworld
Oct 11: Sheffield Corporation
Oct 12: Glasgow Audio

VENUES went into the studio with producer Christoph Wieczorek (Annisokay) to record their latest album Solace (2021, Arising Empire), who coated their massive sound with a metallic alloy of remarkable precision.

“We wanted to be more metal,” Robin comments. “There were some pop sensibilities of Aspire we wanted to replace with rather the opposite.”

Melody and punch-drunk heaviness, metal and alternative rock, zeitgeist and authenticity, barbed choruses and unleashed creativity: with their soaring sophomore release, VENUES fulfiled every single promise they gave on Solace.

“2020 showed all of us how much the band is helping us keep our sanity,” guitarist Robin muses. “Almost the whole band went through minor or medium crises since the release of our debut. Relationships went sour, things were ended and begun. In times like these, our second album was the light at the end of the tunnel. Something we all could look forward to. Our music held our heads above water.”

It was a big leap, going from previous album Aspire to Solace, and a logical one, too. Ten songs, ten exorcisms of negative energy, ten lifesavers.

TesseracT unveil new single 'Echoes' ahead of US tour

After releasing the album of their career in the form of War Of Being, UK prog metal titans TesseracT invite fans once more to a beautiful listening experience in the form of ‘Echoes’, the newest single from the record.

Watch the lyric video for 'Echoes' here: https://youtu.be/HBuZjg4aSA0

Tomorrow, the band will kick off their biggest tour to date in North America, bringing listeners right into ‘The Strangeland’, the concept world of War Of Being. This leg of TesseracT's world tour will span from 5th October in North Carolina right up to 13th November at the Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville, Tennessee.

The track lands with earth-shattering impact as guitar riffs collide with polyrhythmic drums, giving way to malleable basslines, coupled with a vocal performance that is as vulnerable as it is brilliant. Gearing up for the track’s climactic grand finale where aftershocks of groove reverberate throughout the listener, it’s the perfect prologue in understanding the relationship between 'El' and 'The Scribe'.

Regarding the track, Daniel Tompkins had the following to say:

“The concept of 'Echoes' is based around one of our main characters, ‘El’, and 'The Scribe'. They play a major part in the concept and game as 'The Scribe' is a splintered part of 'El's ego that has the ability to control destiny and rewrite the past."

Dan continues:

"This has always been a hard-hitting song and it adds a real dynamic to the album. As a standalone track it exudes feelings from the heights of euphoria but also the depths of desperation. There's a real sense of frustration and regret throughout, especially as the song climaxes with its brutal admission.”

The visualiser, created by Asiel Manuel Rodriguez Espinosa (@asiel_type ) peels back yet more layers from the mysterious world of ‘The Strangeland’. It moves from peaceful moonlit plains to fiery ruins taking with it the listener to another world.

Now, for the first time, the band will be bringing 'The Strangeland' to the live arena with their worldwide tour. Alongside regular tickets, fans will also have to opportunity for VIP experiences which consist of an exclusive stripped down performance, Q&A with TesseracT, limited signed art print, laminate with lanyard, early merch access and early entry.

The band comment: “‘Blackbone’ is a modern metal hymn, with signature Unprocessed riffs, a big chorus, a brutal breakdown and one of [guitarist/vocalist] Manuel’s epic guitar solos. The song is about the inter dialogue one has with their inner child that’s forever present. It speaks of the longing to be brought back to the times of being carefree and just living the day, as well as the anger that comes with the dawning realisation that those times will unlikely ever return.”

‘Blackbone’ is the second single taken from the upcoming album, ...and everything in between, is a bold and complex record pushing the boundaries of technical musicianship, song construction, sonic production and more. Inspired by the emotions conjured from life experiences, Unprocessed have channelled their raw visceral power through their musical talent to create this special record. Never before could one have considered a band being likened to artists as extreme as The Dillinger Escape PlanPolyphia and Bring Be The Horizon, yet Unprocessed have done it.

On ... and everything in between, the band are: “Taking all influences and combining them into an ultimate evolution of everything Unprocessed has ever been, while still adding a new flavour and style to the mix. Epic riffs with intricate licks and mind-bending rhythms, brutal breakdowns, epic guitar solos and big and catchy choruses.

...and everything in between can quite literally be described as everything in between the extremes of life. Dealing with anger, sorrow, nostalgia, love and fear the album reflects on the different shades of a personality that everyone is made out of (e.g. there is evil in everyone). “

Be ready for a whole host of surprises on ...and everything in between, including a special guest appearance from recent tour mates Tim Henson and Scott LePage of Polyphia.

The masters of merging guitar-driven and virtuosic flavours of pop, rock and metal - Manuel Gardner FernandesDavid Levy (bass, synths), Christoph Schultz (guitar) and Leon Pfeifer (drums) are back with their most adventurous record yet.

Having toured the world numerous times, sharing stages with the likes of PolyphiaSpiritbox and many more, Unprocessed have established themselves as one of the most exciting live acts today. This album will take Unprocessed on their first consecutive cycle of headline tours through Europe and the USA. Unprocessed have also been announced as support to TesseracT on their upcoming EU & UK Tour in Jan/Feb 2024 with Callous Daoboys opening.

Rising from the ashes, The Gems redefine the very essence of rock music with their upcoming debut album, Phoenix, out 26th January 2024 via Napalm Records. With unwavering determination and raw talent, this trio hailing from Stockholm, Sweden is ready to rewrite the rules and inspire a new era.

Their first ever single, 'Like A Phoenix', released in June 2023, isn't just a song title; it's a prophecy, a prediction, and a promise. Straight away it gained a remarkable amount of Spotify streams and YouTube video views, and reached #2 on rock radio airplay charts in Germany in no time.

The explosive trio consists of incomparable rock vocalist Guernica Mancini, powerhouse drummer Emlee Johansson, and guitar and bass virtuoso Mona "Demona" Lindgren. Breaking free from the confines of their previous band, Thundermother, they unite under the banner of The Gems in early 2023, igniting a seismic shift in the rock scene. Inspired by legends such as Led Zeppelin and Iron MaidenThe Gems breathe new life into the genre, infusing it with raw power and untamed energy.

With Thundermother, they commanded international stages - electrifying crowds at renowned rock festivals like WackenSweden Rock, and Alcatraz, while supporting legendary acts such as the Scorpions. Three highly acclaimed albums further solidified their place in rock history, with their highest chart entry reaching an impressive #6 with the last two albums on the Official German Album Charts, as well as #2 on the German Airplay Single Charts. Witness the birth of a rock revolution as The Gems take centre stage, ready to unleash a storm of pure sonic brilliance.

The Gems commented on 'Send Me To The Wolves': “‘Send Me to the Wolves’ is all about overcoming and fighting back, not letting bullies control the narrative. This empowering track is the perfect mix between groovy 70s rock vibes and our modern sound. It is also the first song we wrote together for The Gems and we love it so much!”

The Gems on Phoenix"Phoenix marks the beginning, the rise of The Gems. This album takes you on a journey through one of our toughest times. Through this creative process we were able to really dig deep and let go of a lot of emotional baggage, and find true happiness in music again. The new found freedom our band has been given us shines through on this album. We couldn't be prouder of what we've accomplished, and the true Rock n Roll Sisterhood and community we've built through these few months of our existence. Phoenix is the perfect album for anyone going through a tough time, having the rug pulled out under you and somehow finding the strength to rebuild. You'll get the full range of emotions, masterfully produced by our dear friend Johan Randén, who we also wrote some of the songs with."

Captivating, chanting intro track 'Aurora' allows vocalist Guernica Mancini's distinctive, strong and bluesy vocals shine, and sets the scene before the catchy rock’n’roll anthem 'Queens' roars as a celebration of feminine power. Standing up for oneself, fighting back and rising above are some of the main lyrical themes of Phoenix, which 'Send Me To The Wolves' is an outstanding example of. The song’s storyline champions overcoming and not giving in to oppressors, before 'Domino' takes The Gems’ grooviness to the level of legendary classic rock bands of the 70s. With emotional tracks like 'Undiscovered Paths' and 'Fruits Of My Labor', The Gems bring significant depth and variety to the album, distancing themselves from their history. Stunning interlude 'Maria's Song', featuring violinist Maria Jern, fades into the touching ballad 'Ease Your Pain' - giving extra space to the exceptional guitar work of Mona 'Demona' Lindgren. Following track 'Running' shines as a surefire future hit with more impressive guitar work and Emlee Johansson’s hard hitting drums, before the beautifully stripped down acoustic version of 'Like A Phoenix' - backed with acoustic guitar by producer Johan Randén - wraps up The Gems’ debut album. Phoenix was mastered by Plec Johannsons (Soilwork, Hank von Hell, Firewind) and its artwork was created by ex-Thundermother member Giorgia Carteri (Soilwork, The Nightflight Orchestra).

It is clear that the seasoned musicians of The Gems won’t settle in the shadows of their prior successes. With their fresh, convincing debut offering, The Gems take a stand and leave the past behind. Make no mistake - with PhoenixThe Gems will conquer the international rock scene in a heartbeat.
