Haunt the Woods are a curiously unique, effortlessly stunning band.

In the deepest reaches of the English countryside there is a sublime sound emanating from the landscape, and its name is Haunt the Woods. Timely and yet oddly timeless, this surprisingly youthful quartet span musical decades and worlds.

Recently signed with Spinefarm, it won't be long before you hear plenty more from these musical mavericks, and with good reason. Formed in the hinterlands between Plymouth, Devon, and Cornwall, Haunt the Woods deftly interweave alt-rock, folk, prog and pop with an epic level of pomp and poetic elegance that suggests a far longer tenure than their young years suggest. There are tips of the hat to Queen and MuseJeff Buckley and Radiohead, and a sprinkled-in tinge of Beatles-loving pop sensibility and Manchester Orchestra-esque poignancy: Haunt the Woods have that rare ability to conjure legacy while creating a bold sound that is newly their own.

With two warmly received EPs and a debut album, Opaque (2020) which was released in 2020, the stage has been set for their overdue introduction to the world, which began with their stunning new single 'Fever Dream'. Cinematic in scope, operatic in texture, new album Ubiquity is a fitting illustration of the band's prowess and talent.

END share new single / video featuring Debbie Gough of Heriot

END - guitarist Will Putney, vocalist Brendan Murphy, guitarist Gregory Thomas, bassist Jay Pepito, and drummer Matt Guglielmo - will release their second album The Sin of Human Frailty on 27th October via Closed Casket Activities

Today they release new single 'Thaw', featuring guest vocals from Debbie Gough of Heriot. Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/2DnEOg7MaC0

Pre-order The Sin of Human Frailty here: https://closedcasketactivities.com/collections/end

The band comment: “Thaw' is a thematically more bizarre exploration into electronics for END.

"It’s a very boundary-less song and one of the more self-fulfilling moments found in the writing process. As a musician it’s important to express the purest intent of your thoughts, and sometimes that requires reaching beyond the normal instrumentation one is accustomed to. The result is something new for us, but also a part of us.

"Thank you to
Debbie Gough of Heriot for lending her voice to the track. And thank you for giving this new creative passage a listen."

'Gaping Wounds of Earth': https://youtu.be/cDGbUFs_vpI

Formed in 2017, END's From the Unforgiving Arms of God EP spawned the fan-favourite 'Necessary Death,' and led to them signing with label Closed Casket Activities. Highlighted by 'Covet Not' and 'Absence', the band bulldosed the senses with their 2020 full-length debut, Splinters From an Ever-Changing FaceBrooklyn Vegan hailed 'Pariah' as "an absolutely filthy dose of modern metalcore," and Kerrang! went as far as to describe their debut LP as "catharsis fed through a distortion pedal and shaped into a dense, destructive wrecking ball." Perhaps, Invisible Oranges put it best: "These gentlemen have come together to summon a fury seldom heard on any album from the realms of hardcore, grind, and black metal…"

In 2023, the members congregated once again to write and record what would become this sophomore release.

"Part of the goal was to do things our way," states Putney. "We didn't want to lean on our influences too heavily, whether it's in terms of production, guitar tone, arrangement, or other elements. We were like, 'Let's just make a record that sounds like END.' I feel like there's more of an identity to the band than there has ever been on this record."

The final result is a unique blend of HM2-driven grind and metallic hardcore crossover with moments of industrial chaos over ten tracks. Featuring guest vocal appearances by J.R. Hayes (Pig Destroyer), Debbie Gough (Heriot), and Dylan Walker (Full of Hell), this Graphic Nature Audio recording clocks in over 30 minutes of unhinged aggression and grind. Produced and engineered by Will Putney and featuring the art of Alex Eckman-Lawn, this release pushes the complexity of END both sonically and visually. Vinyl comes packaged in a ten panel die-cut jacket, pressed on deluxe coloured vinyl and with a digital download code.

END will embark on a U.S. tour with Full of Hell in the autumn.

Lord Of The Lost release video for 'One Last Song'

German dark rock unit Lord Of The Lost have revealed a new official music video for 'One Last Song', the emotional closing track off their current #1 charting album Blood & Glitter. Inspired by the thought of what song vocalist Chris Harms would like to be the last he sings before he dies, 'One Last Song' is likely to be the most important song he has ever written.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/KJXEwhjQ77k

Lord Of The Lost has successfully skyrocketed this year – the band represented Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest in May, supported Iron Maiden on tour for the second time, played many great slots at huge summer festivals, and sold out several of their own headlining shows. The band are not slowing down, and have countless live shows coming up still this year, including remaining Blood & Glitter tour dates, three shows as special guests for Powerwolf, and their own LORDFEST

Chris Harms comments on 'One Last Song': "Life is too short and uncertain; you never know when it might end. That's why it is important to me to leave my musical testament with this song before it becomes too late for me to do so. If I should only be able to sing, play, or perform one more song in my life, then it would be this one."

On the band’s eighth album, Lord Of The Lost enter a new era of exciting 70s glam rock visuals, and add a blend of 80s new wave and pop influences as well as gothic and electronic elements to their own, relevant modern metal style, impressing both fans and critics.

Dorian Electra new album and video for shape-shifting, glittering single 'Idolize'

Dorian Electra (they/them), the “pop star who defies genres” (New York Times), releases their new album Fanfare, following a slate of critical praise from BillboardVManDazedThe Needle Drop and more.

The release comes with the high energy pop track 'Idolize', alongside a video directed by Electra and Weston Allen. It sees Dorian, an icon worshiped by their adoring fans, dressed as a sexy Napoleon-like popstar-dictator and their likeness carved into a Greek statue.

Stream/purchase Fanfare here: https://ffm.to/dorianelectrafanfare

Fanfare is the pop provocateur’s third album and sees them explore parasocial relationships, from the claims we stake on figureheads' lives to taking in obsession, idolatry and pop culture as modern mythology. Throughout the record, Dorian blurs the lines between love and hate, fandom and control. Working with a cast of creatives, including long-time collaborators Clarence Clarity and Weston Allen, alongside Casey MQCount Baldor and Klaxons’ Jamie ReynoldsFanfare asks what we expect - or demand - from our public figures. Fanare blends sounds from pop to metal, jazz and classical - elevating them all in a distinctly Dorian Electra perspective.

Those yet enlightened must revisit Electra’s first two albums - the world building 2019 album Flamboyant and 2020’s edgy, provocative My AgendaDorian’s music masterfully blends together an assortment of genres, including pop, metal, jazz, medieval, epic baroque, classical, EDM, and more. It’s why they’ve been able to collaborate with such a wide range of artists including Lady GagaCharli XCX100 gecsThe Village PeoplePussy RiotRebecca Black, and more.

Electra spent most of 2022 busy at work on their forthcoming project, which sees them examining the socio-political effects of internet culture and the rise of the parasocial relationship. DAZED visited them in the studio early last year, read about that wild experience HERE

German metalcore quartet MAVIS release new single/video 'Furry Tongue'

German metalcore quartet MAVIS have released their second-ever single, the eye-catchingly-named 'Furry Tongue', out now via Arising Empire

Check out the video for 'Furry Tongue' here: https://youtu.be/q-BoUL6gZKA

Stream/purchase 'Furry Tongue' here: https://arisingempire.com/furrytongue

Featuring vocalist Phil Donay, guitarist Manu Weller, bass player Mo Amrein, and drummer Jakob Schulz-KleinMAVIS stunned the music world with their recent release, 'Tortured Land'. Now they're back, venturing even further into uncharted musical territory with their new single, 'Furry Tongue'. This latest masterpiece is a harmonious chaos, elegantly flitting between time signatures while maintaining a fluid, danceable rhythm.

“The complexity of ‘Furry Tongue’ didn't compromise its groove. Achieving a song you can dance to was a pinnacle for us", shares lead singer Phil.

'Furry Tongue' is a musical narrative that mirrors its lyrical content – it dances on the edge of intuition and overanalysis, exploring the tenuous balance that exists between the two and the exploitation that can arise from either extreme. Phil equates this delicate balancing act to the uncomfortable yet familiar sensation of a furry tongue.

Audiences are led on an auditory journey, meandering through exquisite melodies and clean vocals before being plunged into the intense, arresting breakdown riffs, a testament to MAVIS’s skillful songwriting and performance prowess.

If 'Tortured Land' was an introduction to their dynamism, 'Furry Tongue' solidifies their position as forerunners in innovative metalcore.

The visual component, a collaboration with Danny Jakov (deadapefilms), encapsulates the song’s essence. It oscillates between cerebral choreography and instinctive movement, translating the lyrical and musical duality into a visual spectacle that accentuates the emotive power of 'Furry Tongue'. In this immersive experience, MAVIS reaffirms that they’re not just musicians - they’re storytellers, blurring the boundaries between genres and artistic mediums.

Melodic hardcore quintet Forecast deliver intense new single/video 'Naked'

Italian melodic hardcore outfit Forecast release their new EP Utopia today. To celebrate, the band have shared a video for new single 'Naked', directed by Lewis Cater (ArchitectsAll Time LowSum 41). This emotional rollercoaster of a track is the final offering from Utopia, following 'Pollador' and 'Dniwer'.

Having faced numerous setbacks since moving to the UK from Italy in 2017, the band are finally in a position to build upon the promising underground success that saw them share the stage with the likes of Malevolence and Oceans Ate Alaska, as well as gathering hundreds of thousands of streams and views across streaming platforms with their single 'Vacant', all as a fully independent band.

The band comment: “'Naked' is an utter rollercoaster that varies from blast beats to slow ballad moments and tempo changes, all in a matter of seconds, and right from the very beginning! The vocal part is the glue that keeps all of these emotions together and keeps them from clashing.

"The song is clearly a love letter: resentment, anger, sadness, forgiveness and then love again, are all very perceivable feelings for the listener, especially for melodic hardcore and emo/post-rock lovers. The track has a one-minute long outro, that is necessary to recover from such emotional damage that the song has caused, leaving the listener to imagine the finale of their own story."

Forecast are a melodic hardcore band, blending hardcore sounds akin to Counterparts and It Prevails with melodic rock arrangements. Formed in Rome in 2013 and now based in London, the band released an EP in 2015 called Good Times Until They Become Good Memories, and later released the single 'Vacant' (2016) - the latter reaching over 400,000 views on YouTube. The band now have more than 500,000 streams on Spotify, and are back with a new concept EP titled Utopia, out today, 6th October. Legendary psych-rock band Gong unveil second single 'All Clocks Reset' with eye popping video

Following ‘Tiny Galaxies’, the first piece of their new intergalactic puzzle, legendary psych-rock troup Gong return for the second instalment from the forthcoming album Unending Ascending, out 3rd November via Kscope.

Regarding the new track, 'All Clocks Reset', the band had the following to say :

“Angular guitars! Pointillistic horns! Cataclysmic words! With gods and monsters on their tail, Gong insist you take a trip on the kinetic mainline to experience the dissolution of both ego and sense of self through the universal vehicle of knotty psychedelic rock. The apocalypse never felt so good.”

With a suitably cosmic video from long time live collaborator Fruit Salad Lights, 'All Clocks Reset’ takes the mind, body and spirit into realms that only Gong can conjure.

Following the success of 2019’s The Universe Also CollapsesGong’s intergalactic voyage has once more entered Earth’s orbit with their new album Unending Ascending.

Set for release on 3rd November 2023, the new album promises another mind-expanding set of songs. Opener ‘Tiny Galaxies’ crackles with the electricity of supercharged sixties psych-pop, while ‘My Guitar Is A Spaceship’ is as close to an anthem as anything Gong have previously recorded. This uptempo, single-riff stomper is already a live favourite, garnering a positive reaction from a crowd of 90,000 Blur fans at Wembley Stadium in July 2023, when Gong frontman Kavus Torabi dropped it into his DJ set before Paul Weller took to the stage.

‘Ship of Ishtar’ is a rapt cosmic hymn where Gong make time itself stand still. Jet streams of kaleidoscopic melodies envelop ‘O, Arcturus’, to be followed by the lively polyrhythmic angularity of ‘All Clocks Reset’. ‘Choose Your Goddess’, a surprisingly muscular slice of ritualistic trance rock, ratchets up the intensity yet further. On ‘Lunar Invocation’ the band summons the Moon deities of yore with ululating feedback and squalling cymbals before the post-credits of ‘Asleep Do We Lay’ lull lugubriously, gently beginning the cycle all over again.

Gong’s Unending Ascending will be available on CD / Black LP / Limited edition Green LP and Digitally.

Gong will be appearing alongside Ozric Tentacles on a co-headline tour throughout the UK in November/December 2023 as well as ‘The Last Blast’ Tour in 2024.

About Gong:

The universe of Gong began in 1969 when Daevid Allen was inspired by a profound psychedelic vision. A founder member of Soft MachineAllen incorporated his spiritual and metaphysical leanings into an evolving collective. More a mythology than a band in the conventional sense, Gong established itself as one of the most unique, innovative and experimental rock groups of the seventies, through an exploratory mix of rock, jazz and psychedelia with elements of mysticism and surrealism, unafraid to deliver its messages directly, obliquely or whimsically. The current incarnation, who were put together by Daevid after his swansong album with GongI See You, honour his intention that Gong do not die with him, urging the band to “carry it on into new unknown heights and depths far beyond anything I could ever imagine myself”.

The collective of Kavus TorabiDave SturtFabio GolfettiIan East and Cheb Nettles is the most stable in Gong's illustrious history, having written, recorded and toured together for eight years since Allen's passing. A dynamic, powerful and explosive live band, their music draws from the credo of the original Gong while remaining committed to pushing the composition, performances and message into new realms, paying no mind to nostalgia. Gong in 2023 continue the ethics, attitude and lifestyle that was always woven into the fabric of the band.

US screamo group Dreamwell reveal new single/video ft. Wounded Touch

US screamo ensemble Dreamwell have unveiled 'All Towers Drawn In The Equatorial Room', their newest single/video from upcoming second album In My Saddest Dreams, I Am Beside You - due for release on 20th October via Prosthetic Records.

The track features Nick Holland from Wounded Touch, and has an accompanying video (directed by William J. Hall // instagram.com/allwillpower) which can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/p-47cyg4COs

Stream the single and pre-order the album here: https://lnk.to/Dreamwell

Vocalist KZ Staska comments: "This is one of the bleakest songs I think I've ever written. I wrote an early version of these lyrics stream of consciousness style at the onset of a severe depressive episode. I remember writing until I felt done, walking away, and coming back to read what I wrote. I remember feeling really uncomfortable when I read the line 'I would bash my skull against a brick wall if you told me happiness might leak out.' I hated that a line like that came out of me organically, without thought. I knew that discomfort was important. I had to rewrite a lot of it to give it structure and make it make sense once music was written, but I made sure to keep that line exactly as I wrote it.

"This song uses the tarot and astrology imagery most heavily. It's about being so desperate for a single shred of hope that I turn to things I don't even believe in to try to find it. I tried to capture that same horrible depressive energy I felt when I wrote the song in the music video, but incorporate more of the ritualistic occult imagery from the narrative into it as well."

New album In My Saddest Dreams, I Am Beside You, is Dreamwell's follow-up to widely-lauded debut album Modern Grotesque.

The patchwork, stop-start approach taken to create their previous record served a hard-won purpose as the band refined their line-up and honed their sound. Their early trials by fire stood them in good stead as they started work with a clean slate and contemplated what would later take shape as In My Saddest Dreams, I Am Beside You - their first foray into consciously and deliberately writing an album, start to finish. The result is a blistering take on screamo, with flourishes of post-hardcore and metalcore for good measure.

Dreamwell demonstrate artistic influence drawn from a multitude of genres, from doom to black metal. Some artistic influences - such as Botch or The Blood Brothers - are easily distinguishable, whilst others - such as KhanateThe Mountain Goats or Elizabeth Cotten - are buried deep in the DNA of Dreamwell. The album was recorded at Format Audio in Dover, New Hampshire by Ryan Stack in September of 2022, bringing together a cohesion of sounds and ideas from a group of individuals operating perfectly in tune with each other.

Since their inception in 2017, Dreamwell have been refining and reshaping the parameters of what screamo can be. On In My Saddest Dreams, I Am Beside You, they have provided a structure within which their own chaotic take on the genre is able to flourish.

VENUES release video for new single 'Oblivion'

German post-hardcore quartet VENUES have released a video for their new single 'Oblivion', out now via Arising Empire. The track follows recent singles 'Haunted House''Cravings' and 'Reflections', as well as the band's critically acclaimed sophomore album Solace.

Check out the video for 'Oblivion' here: https://youtu.be/DllLhNGS7ro

Stream/purchase 'Oblivion' here: https://arisingempire.com/oblivion

'Oblivion' promises an intimate journey through the intricate landscape of mental and emotional turmoil. The poignant lyrics unravel a compelling narrative of intense internal struggle, a reflection of the profound challenges tied to mental health issues and other overwhelming life obstacles.

Listeners are invited to a raw and unfiltered exploration of despair, contrasted starkly with elements of hope and the innate human desire for transformation. The song delves into the ambiguous and non-linear path of healing, underscoring the intricate dance between the darkness of struggle and the light of recovery.

The universal appeal of the new single lies in its relatability - the narrative, though deeply personal, resonates on a universal frequency, inviting each listener to attribute their own meanings and connections based on their own experiences and emotions.

Stay tuned as this single is expected to not only climb the charts, but also foster deeper conversations about mental health, resilience and the enigmatic journey to self-recovery and empowerment.

VENUES will support Future Palace in the UK later this month, as part of a wider European tour.

Dates are as follows:

Oct 10: London The Underworld
Oct 11: Sheffield Corporation
Oct 12: Glasgow Audio

VENUES went into the studio with producer Christoph Wieczorek (Annisokay) to record their latest album Solace (2021, Arising Empire), who coated their massive sound with a metallic alloy of remarkable precision.

“We wanted to be more metal,” Robin comments. “There were some pop sensibilities of Aspire we wanted to replace with rather the opposite.”

Melody and punch-drunk heaviness, metal and alternative rock, zeitgeist and authenticity, barbed choruses and unleashed creativity: with their soaring sophomore release, VENUES fulfiled every single promise they gave on Solace.

“2020 showed all of us how much the band is helping us keep our sanity,” guitarist Robin muses. “Almost the whole band went through minor or medium crises since the release of our debut. Relationships went sour, things were ended and begun. In times like these, our second album was the light at the end of the tunnel. Something we all could look forward to. Our music held our heads above water.”

It was a big leap, going from previous album Aspire to Solace, and a logical one, too. Ten songs, ten exorcisms of negative energy, ten lifesavers.
