Dead Poet Society announce new album & release two new singles

Los Angeles quartet Dead Poet Society have announced their second album FISSION, due for release on 26th January 2024 via Spinefarm

After a decade defining, redefining, and perfecting their art, FISSION finds Dead Poet Society poised to be rock's next breakout act. The album is a 13-track study of personal change and the turbulence of growth that, as frontman Jack Underkofler attests, takes "a microscopic and broad look at the events that changed who we are."

The band have also released two singles - ‘I hope you hate me.’ and ‘How could I love you?’.

Check out the video for 'I hope you hate me.' here: https://youtu.be/8tn4-TVXihM

Stream the singles and pre-order FISSION here: https://deadpoetsociety.lnk.to/FISSION

Both songs address the sometimes bittersweet, more often simply bitter, fallout from a tumultuous relationship. The latter is an excruciating yet intoxicating journey, backed by searing guitars, while the former addresses the aftermath of a relationship.

The video for ‘I hope you hate me.’ features dancer and breakout social media star This Robot Cannot Human, whose carefully choreographed moves perfectly reflect the song's tension and slow, calculated build up. The track effortlessly mixes a subtle take on '80s nu wave with alt-rock fury, thanks to pulsating riffs and drumbeats that echo your own heartbeat.

Ultimately, Underkofler says the band has one mission for fans and listeners of the new album: "We want to leave them with the truth."

Further elaborating on the concept, he says: "It's not as simple as saying we want our music to leave people with a positive outlook. You want music to speak to wherever you find yourself. We want to leave people feeling that whatever they are experiencing is valid, no matter what place they are at in their lives."

To that end, there are deep rakings over the coals of relationship breakdowns, examinations of addiction in all its guises, ruminations on the responsibilities and challenges of adulthood, and struggles with the evolution, loss and continual search for self.

"In a lot of ways this album is about unpacking those emotional pains that come with being an adult," Underkofler says. "The past few years have left me in a constant state of growth through the life events of which I've had little control, or which didn’t pan out the way I wanted them to. There's a 'before' you, and an 'after' you, and there's no going back. Life tends to force your hand, and it's futile to fight it. You have to accept that things that happen to you will change you, and let them build you into the next phase of who you are. There is a constant battle to not mourn who I was, because the things you go through define you as a person and turn you into a person worth being. But that can be difficult to wrestle with. There is a positive to it, but it is birthed through a lot of pain."

While the lyrics are fully relatable, the music is a DNA-distinct blend of anthemic alternative, dark and moody hard rock, and progressive indie. FISSION is truly unlike anything you've heard in recent times. The album also includes last month’s double single ‘Running In Circles’ and ‘HURT.’ Watch their accompanying video here: https://youtu.be/WQkWVRudsaw

Dead Poet Society have accumulated over 72 million global streams, with nearly 32 million streams in the US alone. The band have also enjoyed two Top 15 singles at radio in the US and key playlisting.

Dead Poet Society continue to spend as much time as possible on the road. Having owned the main stage at 2000trees festival this summer, as well as playing a select few sold out UK and European headline dates, the band have now announced an extensive UK/European headline tour, which will set the continent ablaze in February and March 2024.

Dead Poet Society have established themselves as an intense live act not to be missed. The band have previously toured with alt-rock powerhouses Biffy ClyroBadflowerHighly Suspect and BRKN Love; and they’ve played iconic festivals such as DownloadPinkpopRock Werchter and Reading & Leeds in recent years.

Canadian rockers Royal Tusk explore tenuous connection with intense melodies and brutal lyrics in new single

Photo Credit: Kidpixel & Travis Nesbit

Canadian rock trio Royal Tusk have released their new single 'Relegate' via MNRK Music Group.

Stream here: https://royal-tusk.ffm.to/relegate

The single explores a bond teetering on the razor's edge. Musically the track’s brutal intensity is punctuated with delicate melodies, echoing the rollercoaster ride of emotions that come when two souls connected start drifting apart. Frontman Daniel Carriere said: “It’s about slipping away and losing your ground in a relationship like you can’t hold on.”

The group have already released two singles following the new release that includes 'All My Life' and the recent 'Head Up', with more music to come.

The Alberta trio consists of Daniel Carriere (vocals), Quinn Cyrankiewicz (guitar), and Sandy MacKinnon (bass). They fuse hypnotic hooks to hard-hitting riffs, offset by untethered rhythms and undeniably honest lyrics.

In 2014, the band buzzed out of Edmonton with the Mountain EP. They evolved across releases such as DealBreaker (2017) and Tusk II (2018) which Billboard proclaimed “The LP steps beyond what fans heard on DealBreaker”. Among many standouts in their catalogue, 'Curse The Weather' generated 10.4 million+ Spotify streams, followed by 'Aftermath' with 6.8 million Spotify streams. Royal Tusk have toured with Pop EvilMonster TruckSlash and Big Wreck, and performed on the 2020 ShipRocked Cruise with BeartoothHalestorm, and Alter Bridge to name a few. One moment they’ll serve up an earthquake barrage of distortion, only to incite a bold stadium-size singalong in the next breath.

Swiss psych trio Dirty Sound Magnet reveal new single 'Utopia', celebrate album release day

Without missing a beat between a rigorous ongoing string of European tour dates and teasing fans with three tantalizing singles, the eclectic Swiss trio Dirty Sound Magnet's new album Dreaming In Dystopia is released today, 20th October.

Out now via Australian label Wild Thing RecordsDreaming In Dystopia is a kaleidoscopic rock odyssey that is as equally wrapped in the warmth of nostalgia as it is unique, weaving blues rock, prog, indie, psychedelic rock, and more into one vibrant and novel sonic tapestry. Dirty Sound Magnet’s achievements with this latest release are due in part to the band’s tireless work ethic and the unbreakable bonds forged between the three men who were brought together by a shared love of classic rock decades ago in the picturesque yet isolated Swiss countryside.

Since its founding in 2016, Dirty Sound Magnet has released three studio recordings, each melding the sounds of rock’s golden age with the genre-agnostic, experimentalism of today. Besides putting out this trilogy of records, the trio of Stavros Dzodzos (guitars, lead vocals), Marco Mottolini (bass, backing vocals), and Maxime Cosandey (drums, backing vocals, special effects) would go on to perform nearly 700 shows throughout Europe, UK, and Mexico. Thanks in part to this tireless work ethic and becoming known internationally for its mesmerising live shows, Dirty Sound Magnet has, in just this short period of time, taken home the 2022 Swiss Live Talents award for ‘Best Swiss Rock Band’ and performed as support for various rock heavyweights including Wolfmother (AU), Rival Sons (US), and Monster Magnet (US).

While 2023’s Dreaming In Dystopia sits as Dirty Sound Magnet's most wonderfully expansive release to date, it also represents the most introspective chapter in the band’s story so far, seeing the trio explore how despite the chaotic nature of the world we live, certain things like the profound power of music and the dedication to self-expression and elevation through it that Dirty Sound Magnet extols, have remained constant. It’s reflective in a way that allows Dirty Sound Magnet to not only express and iterate on its ever-evolving flavor of psychedelic rock but also puts into perspective just how far the trio has come as musicians and performers. Rather than revisiting the blistering, riff-stuffed hard-rock depicted in its prior two releases, Live Alert and DSM IIIDreaming In Dystopia instead opts to wave a vivid tapestry of harmonies, soundscapes, lush sonic textures informed by the late sixties and early seventies psychedelic and progressive rock that not only inspired Dirty Sound Magnet’s inception but a decades-spanning friendship between its three members that even long precedes Dirty Sound Magnet’s formation.

'Utopia', the album’s fifth track, masterfully distills this notion into aural form, combining existential lyricism with the march of its psychedelia-laced instrumental, harkening back to Barrett-era Pink Floyd and The Mothers of Invention. Tying everything together, Dirty Sound Magnet pepper the bridge of 'Utopia' with a spaghetti-western flavour evoking the legendary film scores of Ennio Morricone.

Dzodzos comments: "Despite Dreaming In Dystopia not being Dirty Sound Magnet you’d expect and yet it might be the album that resembles us the most. So much passion was put into making this record, yet at the same time, it all came together for us so naturally. It’s something that only the three of us together could pull off and an album that we’ll be proud of our entire life."

Dirty Sound Magnet’s Dreaming In Dystopia is available now to listen on all major streaming platforms and to purchase on the Wild Thing Music Store.

About Dirty Sound Magnet:

Switzerland’s Dirty Sound Magnet are an unstoppable, unbreakable force of rock. The uniqueness of their mesmerizing music and kinetic live performances has won audiences the world over. Their show is unpredictable; shamanic stage presence, rock star charisma, instrumental prowess, poetic vocals, tantalizing dynamics. As teenagers hailing from Fribourg, Stavros Dzodzos (guitar, vocals), Marco Mottolini (bass, backing vocals), and Maxime Cosandey (drums, backing vocals) devoured hundreds of albums, while rehearsing with great intensity. Their passion rapidly turned into an addiction and total dedication to their art, crafting a sound that has been likened to a fusion of Led Zeppelin's energy and instrumental virtuosity, Iggy Pop's raw energy, and The Doors' mysticism, additionally imbued with modern psych influences of bands like Tame Impala and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. This stylistic pedigree, along with thought-provoking lyrics reflecting contemporary social turmoil, Dirty Sound Magnet have created their own distinct musical formula.

In only a few short years since the band's formation, Dirty Sound Magnet swiftly established themselves within Europe’s burgeoning psychedelic rock scene, extensively touring the continent throughout 2017 to 2020. Since the release of the band’s third and most successful studio album DSM-III, Dirty Sound Magnet have performed over 130 shows, including sold-out tours in the UK, Germany, and Mexico, won the Swiss Live Talents award for ‘Best Swiss Rock Band’ for the second time, previously taking it home for the band's 2017 debut album, Western Lies.

Dirty Sound Magnet's music is in a constant state of evolution, and their upcoming record, Dreaming In Dystopia, due on October 20, 2023, via Australian label Wild Thing Records, is a testament to their artistic progression.

Death metal quartet Crypta release lyric video for 'Stronghold'

Brazilian death metal outfit Crypta have released the lyric video for their track 'Stronghold', taken from their mighty second album Shades of Sorrow out now via Napalm Records.

Released in August, Crypta’s second album stormed the charts globally (#23 Official German Album Charts, #17 Official Rock & Metal Album Charts UK, #5 Top New Artist Albums & #7 Current Hard Music Albums USA, #4 Hard Music Albums CAN, and many more), and received an outstanding reception from fans and critics alike - cementing the band’s standing as one of the rising forces in today’s death metal scene.

Dubbed the “favorite young metal band of the moment” by Ghost mastermind Tobias Forge, this is another piece of evidence that the path these four women tread leads in only one direction: unstoppably to the top.

Addictive track 'Stronghold' shines as one of the most detailed and melodic tracks on Shades of Sorrow.

Following Crypta’s successful recent European tour, the quartet will head out on a longer South
American run and a full North American tour in early 2024.

On Shades of Sorrow, the band stays true to their unique sound that was introduced on their first full-length, blending classic and modern death metal with significant extreme and black metal elements.

Fernanda Lira (bass, vocals) on Shades of Sorrow"Shades of Sorrow is a semi-concept album which describes a journey through the depths of our psyche when facing tough battles. It's a trip to the many shades of pain we sometimes have to face while enduring our lives’ challenges. The songs are the perfect gloomy, dark, emotional soundtrack for this journey."

It is clear that the talented women of Crypta have created another impressive masterpiece with Shades of Sorrow, presenting the very best of their technical ability and songwriting skills on this 13-track onslaught. Shades of Sorrow was recorded at Family Mob Studio, mixed by Daniel Bergstrand at 33 Stockholm, Sweden and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studio.

Metalcore newcomers The Pauline Principle release new single 'Left Behind'

International metalcore newcomers The Pauline Principle have released their new single 'Left Behind'. The quintet, comprised of members based in the US, Russia and Germany, have never actually met in real life. All band activities taking place online, they have managed to release four singles before 'Left Behind' and amass over 280K views on YouTube since their formation in 2020.

The band comment: "'Left Behind' is a song written from our vocalist Nolan’s perspective. After losing an 18-year friendship due to misunderstandings and differences, Nolan discovered he needed to dig deep and accept that not every friendship lasts forever."

The Pauline Principle began in 2020 as an online project founded by Nolan Mateer (vocals, Pennsylvania), Josh Clark (drums, Dallas), Ivan Nikolaenko (bass, Moscow) and André Hernandez (guitar, Hamburg). It quickly became apparent that the creative songwriting process was more than possible over the internet, making the great distance between the musicians a minor issue. The band is driven by the idea of standing on a stage together one day, and performing their songs live.

The name comes from the biblical Pauline principle, which states that something evil can never be justified by a good intention; the end never justifies the means. This principle can be applied in many aspects of life, from personal life decisions to historical events.

Stylistically, The Pauline Principle take inspiration from classic metalcore elements of the early 2000s. Tobi Weiss, who joined the band at the end of 2022, provides an important contribution to the band's original sound. Tobi is a professional composer for video game music, and therefore knows how to create atmospheric density through specific musical accents.

After a series of animated music videos, the band stepped in front of the camera for the first time in the music video for 'Tear Out The Pages'. A specific location of each of their hometowns was chosen as the video set to highlight the multi-nationality of the band. This approach was taken one step further in the video for 'Left Behind'. It was produced by Patrick Lawler, notably a collaborator of Nik Nocturnal. To create the dark, dystopian world for 'Left Behind', Lawler made use of state-of-the-art AI technology.
