VEXED are riding high after releasing their second beast of an album, Negative Energy, earlier this year via Napalm Records, to rave reviews worldwide, and a sold-out UK headline tour. The trio are also in the running for a Grammy nomination for their single 'Anti-Fetish'.

Watch the band's most recent single 'Lay down your flowers', ft. Lochie Keogh (Alpha Wolf), here: https://youtu.be/Ij7wvcMyrR4

Impressing with extreme vocals and bombarding drums, the new video is yet another example of one of the UK's hottest newcomers in alternative metal.

'X my <3 (Hope to die)': https://youtu.be/fxMBSXSOhJU
'Anti-Fetish': https://youtu.be/BrVx05brvIk

Negative Energy is the pinnacle of VEXED's musicianship, with gripping, profound and brave lyricism. Instead of opting for the forced positivity many of their contemporaries demonstrate, the Hertfordshire trio channel every ounce of their Negative Energy into these 13 tracks - recharging themselves for an uphill battle.

Stream/purchase Negative Energy here: https://lnk.to/VEXED-NegativeEnergy/napalmrecords

VEXED formed in 2019, consisting of vocalist Megan Targett, guitarist Jay Bacon, drummer Willem Mason-Geraghty and bassist Al Harper. The band quickly made a name for themselves across the UK metal scene with their hard-hitting sound and dynamic live performances.

Turning heads with their debut singles - including the fearsome 'Elite' featuring Thy Art Is Murder’s CJ McMahon VEXED quickly created a palpable underground buzz. In 2020, they signed with the independent label Napalm Records, and released their debut full-length album, Culling Culture in May the following year.

Culling Culture features ten tracks that showcase VEXED's signature sound, which combines punishing breakdowns, technical guitar riffs, and Megan Targett's fierce vocals. The album's lyrics explore themes of societal issues such as mental health and social justice and have been praised for their honesty and relatability.

The album was a commercial success and received widespread critical acclaim. VEXED's live shows have also garnered a reputation for being intense and energetic, with the band earning support slots with notable acts such as Spiritbox and In Flames, among others.

Now VEXED look to their second album, to be released 23rd June via Napalm Records. A punishing listen, from haunting intro track 'PTSD', which sets the stage of dread ahead of the carnage to come, all the way through 'Lay down your flowers' featuring Alpha Wolf vocalist Lochie Keogh and intense finale 'Nepotism'.

Like the best bands, VEXED on Negative Energy blends fury with emotion. 'Default' displays lead singer Megan Targett's high-soaring clean vocals juxtaposed against her menacing deep growls, while the album's most emotional offering, 'It's Not The End', serves as a magnificent dedication to a loved one passing away, truly manifesting their legacy.

A stunning, devastating musical conduit - Negative Energy ventilates VEXED's pain-stricken burdens and breathes life into their fresh approach, delivered with a thunderous vengeance.

Alt-rock quartet El Moono reveal music video for new single 'Chains'

Alternative quartet El Moono have revealed the music video for their monstrous new single 'Chains' (Lockjaw Records), their first material in eighteen months.

Watch 'Chains' here: https://youtu.be/arCLDjZFsS8

Stream here: https://elmoono.lnk.to/chainsPR

The band comment: "'Chains' is the riff-loaded, angry yet emotive first peek at our debut album. The track is themed around emotionally abusive relationships, and is already a mainstay of our setlists, starting mosh pits at ArcTanGentRADAR and Burn it Down Festivals already, proving its place as a fan-favourite. Mastered by Acle Kahney from TesseracT, recorded at Middle Farm Studios, we feel 'Chains' is the perfect way to begin the new era."

The single marks a new beginning for El Moono, following their highly-regarded 2022 Temple Corrupted EP (released via Lockjaw Records). Previous tours alongside Black PeaksHaggard Cat, St Pierre Snake Invasion, and Press to MECO marked El Moono as a band to watch, well before the release of the EP which garnered notable praise from Metal Hammer, Kerrang! and Guitar World. With influences of rock, hardcore, metal and grunge, the band's off-kilter and oftentimes mind-bending riffs, emotive songs and expressive lyricism combine to create a sound that’s difficult to pigeonhole.

Alt-pop trio Exploring Birdsong release stunning cover of Deftones' 'Diamond Eyes'

Acclaimed young alt-pop/prog trio Exploring Birdsong have released their stunning version of the Deftones classic, 'Diamond Eyes'.

Watch the video to 'Diamond Eyes' here:  https://youtu.be/AsVRJblr8O4

Stream the single here: https://orcd.co/exploringbirdsong_diamondeyes

“Collectively, 'Diamond Eyes' is one of our favourite songs of all time," comment the band. "It really feels like a song that is within the same realm of what we try to do as a band too, which made it in turn feel like a perfect song for us to put our own spin on. The weight of the riffs in the original are so crushing, but what we feel really makes this song so special is the chorus, so having the focus of our version be the harmony and melody felt like the most ‘us’ thing to do.”

Exploring Birdsong's version of 'Diamond Eyes' follows the band's second EP Dancing in the Face of Danger (March 2023, Long Branch Records), released to rave reviews worldwide. The band wanted to draw a line in the sand following Dancing in the Face of Danger to mark the start of a new chapter as a band, and, through coincidence, eventually ended up working with a new production team (Tom Peters - engineering and mixing & Grant Berry - mastering) which has helped bookend the Dancing in the Face of Danger period. They comment: "We wanted to experiment sonically before heading into full length album territory, which is why we think it feels different to anything we’ve released previously."

The young group will join Katatonia as special guest for their shows in Ireland next week - the first live performances since their European debut at Euroblast Festival (Cologne, DE) and inaugural headline tour across the UK in September 2021, including London, Manchester and Birmingham, and following successful support tours with the likes of Sleep Token and Thank You Scientist.

Rarely are new groups as exciting, talented or unique as Exploring Birdsong. Straddling pop, progressive rock and uncategorisable genre-blending beauty, the band are unplaceable for the most part, but bring to mind elements of Kate BushSleep Token, Everything Everything and Agent Fresco.

Rarely too do you hear voices as captivating as frontwoman Lynsey Ward’s. Powerful, controlled, and spine-chillingly tender, Lynsey’s vocals help mark Exploring Birdsong as a prospect to watch, from the release of their acclaimed debut The Thing With Feathers (2019, Long Branch Records) to 2023's EP Dancing in the Face of Danger.

Jonny Knight - bass, synthesisers

Swedish metal visionaries EVERGREY release new video from upcoming anniversary album

EVERGREY, Sweden's finest export of melodic metal darkness, will celebrate 30 years of mastery with their anniversary album, From Dark Discoveries to Heartless Portraits, (released 15th December 2023 via Napalm Records).

Today, the group - centred around mastermind Tom S. Englund - one of the most distinctive vocals in metal - take devotees back to their successful European tour stop in Lyon, France last year with a live version and visualiser video for their intense song 'Recreation Day'.

The band comment: "’Recreation Day' is one of those songs that have stood the test of time. It’s like 20 years old and still a favourite among our fans!"

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/ojtyKXvOQkQ

Pre-order: lnk.to/Evergrey-FDDTHP/napalmrecords

From Dark Discoveries to Heartless Portraits will be available in various formats - including an extremely limited 112-page hardcover book and CD digisleeve bundle, with rare photos, behind the scenes stories and exclusive liner notes from the band.

The album wraps up three decades of EVERGREY’s journey, carries some very special treats along with it, and cements their position as one of the most genre-defining bands of our time. From Dark Discoveries to Heartless Portraits unites EVERGREY’s past and present and paves the way for their next chapter - and an even brighter future to come.

The band state: "Make sure you get a hold of the limited edition book as we have worked intensely for months to gather all the photos and write all the stories for each of the albums, it’s an insanely cool product to have and to remember all of these years together with us! Here’s to another 30!"

In addition to live versions of recent tracks like 'Call Out The Dark' and 'Where August Mourns', the record travels down memory lane with 'My Allied Ocean', 'A Touch Of Blessing', 'Recreation Day' and 'King Of Errors'. The second half of the offering contains soulful piano vocal versions of four songs from the latest full-length ('Save Us', 'Call Out The Dark', 'Blindfolded' and 'Midwinter Calls'), and demo versions of the same tracks, topped by a instrumental version of 'A Silent Arc'.

Since their very first record, 1998’s The Dark Discovery, the Swedish entity around founder, singer and guitarist Tom S. Englund - one of the most distinctive vocals in metal - has enthralled fans and critics alike with their matchless skill in merging progressive heaviness with intense melodic metal, topped by gripping lyrics that run shivers down one’s spine. To date, the band has gathered numerous worldwide chart positions with thirteen studio albums in total, and in 2022, the five-piece proved again - even after 30 years of existence - that their creativity sees no bounds with the release of the flawless A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament).

Australian quintet Future Static release video for alt-pop-core sensation ‘Chemical Lobotomy’

Melbourne metal quintet Future Static have released their fiery and anthemic rager of a new single, 'Chemical Lobotomy'. Paired with an accompanying music video, ‘Chemical Lobotomy’ is every bit as visceral and emotive as its predecessors ‘Roach Queen’ and ‘The Hourglass’, all taken from the band's upcoming debut album Liminality, due for release on 24th November via Wild Thing Records.

Check out the video for 'Chemical Lobotomy' here: https://youtu.be/VDVVN_ZAFzo

Pre-order / pre-save Liminality here: https://ffm.to/futurestaticliminality

‘Chemical Lobotomy’ erupts with thrashing rhythmic hits and rapid guitar riffs, as lead singer Amariah Cook forges a powerful and passionate performance against the metal backdrop. The song's musical and lyrical themes circle around the communal lack of self-control and indulgence in bad habits over isolation and lockdown, while also highlighting the importance of friendship in these times. Similar to their last release ‘The Hourglass’, Amariah and bassist Kira Neil's powerful vocal connection throughout the song brings an enchanting energy to this release.

Amariah talks about the inspiration:

“It's no mystery that this song is about getting a little too excited with substances during lockdown. It was a boring time and, apart from writing music, there really wasn't much else to do. I had a massive bout of inspiration and decided to start writing the vocals to the instrumental (written by Ryan) when I was suffering from a massive hangover. I got up out of bed and decided to write about my lack of control in the hopes it would help me understand why I was putting myself through this and how to get out of it. As the song developed, I realised that if I just sang the chorus a third time at the end, it would allude to nothing changing, whereas I wanted to write something ending on the positive side of these experiences: the connection with my friends and how we were all in this situation together."

The video, filmed and directed by the master Colin Jeffs (Make Them SufferAlpha Wolf), is a lot more focused on performance and aesthetic, unlike Future Static’s previous releases which revolved around the narrative.

An innate fusion of metalcore, progressive metal, alternative rock, and pop sensibilities, Liminality is exemplified by its profound singles: visceral cut ‘Roach Queen’, the effervescent ‘Plated Gold’ - featuring guest vocals from Sean Harmanis of Make Them Suffer, and acclaimed earlier singles ‘Waves’ and ‘Venenosa’.

Liminality also highlights the group's breathtaking lead vocal tandem, with bassist Kira Neil showcasing her vocal talents and magical chemistry alongside the electrifying Melbourne-born, Barcelona-raised Amariah Cook, underlined on the progressive labyrinth ‘The Hourglass’, and ‘Chemical Lobotomy’. The album was produced, mixed, and mastered by Christopher Vernon (WindwakerThe Beautiful Monument). The artwork was helmed by guitarist Jack Smith, with Liminality portraying the space between materialising and deteriorating in serene nothingness.

The group recently concluded their first international jaunt across Europe and the UK, including appearances at German festivals Reeperbahn and Euroblast. On album release week, Future Static will be joining German superstars Electric Callboy on their sold-out Australian tour, with future international dates on the horizon; including the recently announced RADAR Festival in the UK.

Following on from taking the Australian live circuit by storm, the release of Liminality marks the next step in Future Static's hugely promising career.

Technical metalcore newcomers Eschalon launch with debut single feat. Neema Askari (Fellsilent)

UK tech-metalcore new comers Eschalon have launched with their debut single 'Helios', along with a stunning music video.

Featuring the legendary Neema Askari of Fell Silent, watch the video directed by Jake Ten here: https://youtu.be/6CTtOftgYSY

Stream on Spotify and Apple Music.

Founded in Cambridge by Simon Garrod and Miles TaylorEschalon has been a behind-the-scenes project for many years. Throughout lockdown, the band finished writing multiple bodies of work before recruiting the right members for the job, which eventually saw the culmination of what we know as Eschalon today.

Eschalon started recording with Meyrick De La Fuente of Floodgate Audio in late 2021 to create their all-encompassing auditory and visual onslaught. Mixing dissonance with serenity, Eschalon draw from a wide range of influences, fusing multiple genres to create a dense and chaotic soundscape.

On the new single 'Helios', the band comment: "Burning compassion in the face of shadows. 'Helios' is a fervent testament to the unyielding spirit that reaches out to uplift those grappling with turmoil. The lyrics weave an intricate tapestry of heartfelt altruism, resonating with anyone who's ever extended a hand to someone in need. It's a symphony of devotion, capturing the fiery passion of aiding others while acknowledging the toll it can take. Journeys through cosmic allegories mirror the emotional voyage, as the track kindles a guiding light through the darkest of times."

The first single 'Helios' is also a tribute to one of the pillars of the tech metal community. The band continue: "On November 1st, 2022 we lost our dear friend Karl Riley of Carcer City. Karl had been a supporter of Eschalon for many years, and had introduced us to our vocalist BradBrad was Karl’s best friend, and cared for him until the very end. Karl had become obsessed with number synchronicities and had been telling his friends, family and nurses that the numbers ‘11122’ were important to his life, but that he did not know what they meant. Having predicted the date of his own passing, we felt this was an important date and marked it as a date we should honour as a band. We decided that 1/11/23, a year on from Karl’s passing, we would release Helios in loving memory of Karl Riley, to honour him, and our relationship as a band which he hand a significant hand in forging.

"Karl Riley Forever."

Eschalon recently played their debut live show to a sold-out audience in Cambridge, opening for Vexed. News on more live shows coming soon.

Unprocessed open up about toxic relationships with emotive new single / video ‘Glass’

Boundary pushing quartet Unprocessed have released their new single / video ‘Glass’, taken from their upcoming third album ...and everything in between, set for release on 1st December 2023.

Pre-order ...and everything in between here: www.unprocessed.band

The band comment: “‘Glass’ serves as the atmospheric, dark, yet beautiful episode of our album. Starting with a signature Unprocessed tapping harmonic riff, ‘Glass’ delivers upon a story of toxic love and the sacrifices one has to make to sustain this kind of relationship. The lyrics state “Loving you feels like walking on broken glass”. The song travels through a storm and culminates in a hopeful ending with its unexpected mood change. ‘Glass’ is a big ballad that perfectly captures the melodic side of this record, and we can’t wait to hear you sing along with us.”

‘Glass’, the third single taken from the upcoming album, ...and everything in between, is a bold and complex record pushing the boundaries of technical musicianship, song construction, sonic production and more. Inspired by the emotions conjured from life experiences, Unprocessed have channelled their raw visceral power through their musical talent to create this special record. Never before could one have considered a band being likened to artists as extreme as The Dillinger Escape PlanPolyphia and Bring Be The Horizon, yet Unprocessed have done it.

On ... and everything in between, the band are: “Taking all influences and combining them into an ultimate evolution of everything Unprocessed has ever been, while still adding a new flavour and style to the mix. Epic riffs with intricate licks and mind-bending rhythms, brutal breakdowns, epic guitar solos and big and catchy choruses.

...and everything in between can quite literally be described as everything in between the extremes of life. Dealing with anger, sorrow, nostalgia, love and fear the album reflects on the different shades of a personality that everyone is made out of (e.g. there is evil in everyone). “

Be ready for a whole host of surprises on ...and everything in between, including a special guest appearance from recent tour mates Tim Henson and Scott LePage of Polyphia.

The masters of merging guitar-driven and virtuosic flavours of pop, rock and metal - Manuel Gardner FernandesDavid Levy (bass, synths), Christoph Schultz (guitar) and Leon Pfeifer (drums) are back with their most adventurous record yet.

Having toured the world numerous times, sharing stages with the likes of PolyphiaSpiritbox and many more, Unprocessed have established themselves as one of the most exciting live acts today. Hailing from the UK, Saint Agnes are all about honest lyrics, intense vocal performances, plus rage-fuelled music intended to give a voice to those closer to the fringe than the centre.

As much gang as band, Saint Agnes seek to empower those who’ve been battered and bruised yet refuse to lie down, and it’s a thread that runs deep within Bloodsuckers – SA’s first album for Spinefarm, the follow-up to 2019’s Welcome To Silvertown, issued on the band’s own label.

In addition to … SilvertownSaint Agnes have released a number of singles, videos and EPs, embarked on headline tours in both the UK and Europe, and appeared at a host of festivals, including Download, 2000trees, Isle of Wight and Kendal Calling.

Saint Agnes
have also made big waves in the gaming world, with the release of Dead Island 2 in April. The game, which features the Saint Agnes song 'And They All Fall Down', has sold over two million copies.

One thing’s for sure, it’s got nothing to do with rule-books or playing it safe…

From the title track (also lead single / video) onwards, Bloodsuckers is a genre-jumping body of work, taking in elements of metal, punk, industrial and grunge, without being bound by any specific style; the 11 tracks here come straight from the source, largely self-produced and mixed (NIN collaborator Sean Beavan lends his mixing and production skills to ‘Follow You’), and this self-contained approach provides an extra emotional weight throughout, with doom trap provocateur and Kerrang! cover artist Mimi Barks further fuelling the chaos on the short, sharp shock that is ‘Body Bag’.

Created in the months following the unexpected and untimely death of Kitty’s mother, Bloodsuckers explores a number of themes, including mental illness, pent-up rage, undying love and, of course, grief; from the trash-metal howl into the night that is ‘Bloodsuckers’ right through to broken ballad, ‘This Is Not The End’, a poignant reflection of Kitty’s still-raw emotions, this is a call to outsiders everywhere…

Concludes Kitty: “Creating this album gave me a reason to get to my feet at a time when I really wasn’t sure if I could. I’ve tried to put everything I’ve been feeling into it, all the pain, the rage, the grief, even the unexpected moments of beauty and belief. I hope it makes you feel less alone. I hope it makes you feel bigger, badder and stronger. We might be damaged but that doesn’t mean we’re worthless. This is a record for the defeated, the crushed. We might be broken but that doesn’t mean we’re not whole. Bloodsuckers forever, Saint Agnes forever.”

Dark electronic rock project j:dead release new single 'Harbour'

j:dead return with their new single 'Harbour', taken from their upcoming EP ROOTS, released 1st December via Infacted Records. This latest anthem is a symphony of powerful vocals, atop a backdrop of driving synths and crushed melodies, and is accompanied by two remixes from Aesthetic Perfection and genCAB. 'Harbour' chaotically and introspectively depicts the characters who make up who we are – displayed in the frantic embodiment of the music video.

New EP ROOTS will host seven original tracks, as well as a range of additional remixes only to be found on the physical release. Taking influence from sources as disparate as Depeche ModeNine Inch NailsA Perfect Circle and Fear Factory, expect to hear elements of †††Gary NumanThe Black Queen, and Bad Omens. It will be j:dead's first release since their triumphant set at Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig, Germany.

j:dead is the multifaceted project of solo creator Jay Taylor. Casting influences across alternative and electronic genres, Taylor captures darkened club-ready hits alongside powerful and driven vocal hooks. Since the project's inception, j:dead have released and collaborated on over 50 tracks spanning the dark electro scene, often finding the balance between melody and aggression with the constant recognition of a distinctive voice wielded by the creator himself.
