Niklas Karlsson (guitars/vocals) states: "During the writing of our latest album Descent, we felt that the songs ‘Sound of The Bell’ and ‘The Upheaval' had a similar feel to the rest of the album, but they turned out to be way more experimental in the final recording stages. As it progressed, they simply felt more out of place. Heading home from the latest tour supporting Avatar, we knew we needed one more song to glue these two together and shortly thereafter, ‘While We Serve’ was born. It was the perfect glue to tie all the songs together and the cherry on the top for a new piece work to be presented. So, even though it’s a continuation of Descent, it turned out to be a release that could live independently. 

“The EP kicks off with 'While We Serve’ and it has a horror movie vibe going on, which I love. It’s fast, kind of old school, but of course, with the modern twists. One track that also stands out for me is 'Sound of The Bell' which, lyrically, I believe was the most difficult one I’ve ever written to date. I delved into the mass shootings and that sort of violence that’s on the news almost every day now. I think I really had to choose my words right and be very careful to show my utmost respect for people who’ve been faced with this cruelty, chaos and grieving, especially since I’ve never been in a situation like that myself.

"These last two to three years have really changed our lives. Everything goes so fast that it is sometimes difficult to stand back and put some perspective on it. You’re always on the hunt for the next thing. Coming home from this busy year, everything starts to creep in; for example, we opened up for Meshuggah six times, month-long tours with Avatar in the US two times, and had a blast for two weeks in the UK supporting Trivium. It’s hard to understand still, remembering that you’ve looked up to these bands for so many years, and now you’re out there becoming friends with them? It’s surreal. And the backbone of it all is, of course, our beloved fans, who I believe would go through fucking fires for us. They are the most dedicated and supportive group of people I’ve ever seen, and everyone is so lovely and polite. We wouldn’t be here without them and this EP is for them."

Canadian rock trio Royal Tusk announce their third full-length album, Altruistic, due 23rd February via MNRK Music Group, and release an accompanying documentary, Do No Wrong: The Making of Altruistic.

In addition, they have released their new single, 'Here On Out', with hummable riffs and a chantable chorus. “To me, the more people who resign to their fate and don’t live their true selves, the more fucked up the world becomes,” says frontman Daniel Carriere.

Spending nearly a year writing throughout the pandemic, the trio eventually hunkered down in Alberta’s Audio Department recording studio where they self-produced Altruistic. In the midst of the process, Carriere wound up in the throes of a year-long battle to get healthy after suffering from a blood clot in his lung. He lost over 20lbs and could barely speak. 

“Sandy [bassist] and Quinn [guitarist] helped me through the entire experience,” Carriere said. “These songs were written prior to this life-changing event, but they still tell a story of struggle, suffering, uncertainty, courage, and watching your back. It’s bizarre how that happened. When I think of them now, they definitely illustrate what we all went through.”

With an unwavering determination, the band faced highs and lows that pushed them to the brink, including an almost career-ending illness that threatened to shatter their dreams. Throughout their trials and tribulations of friendships, brotherhood and tenacity prevail. In the documentary, witness the raw emotion, sweat, and imaginative determination as they pour their hearts and souls into creating what is undeniably one of the most powerful rock albums of the decade. 

It's a story of passion, triumph over adversity, and the creation of a musical tour de force that will redefine your perception of rock 'n' roll and the human spirit.

Royal Tusk have already released three singles from this record including, 'All My Life', featuring vulnerable verses giving way to a riff-boosted refrain with words of encouragement, then there's 'Head Up', Carriere’s emotionally charged vocal delivery with a head-nodding guitar groove while, 'Relegate' stands out as a different kind of love song. Carriere says, “It’s about slipping away and losing your ground in a relationship like you can’t hold on.”

The Alberta trio consists of Daniel Carriere (vocals), Quinn Cyrankiewicz (guitar), and Sandy MacKinnon (bass). They fuse hypnotic hooks to hard-hitting riffs, offset by untethered rhythms and undeniably honest lyrics. 

In 2014, the band buzzed out of Edmonton with the Mountain EP. They evolved across releases such as DealBreaker (2017) and Tusk II (2018) which Billboard proclaimed “The LP steps beyond what fans heard on DealBreaker”. Among many standouts in their catalogue, 'Curse The Weather' generated 10.4 million+ Spotify streams, followed by 'Aftermath' with 6.8 million Spotify streams. Royal Tusk have toured with Pop Evil, Monster Truck, Slash and Big Wreck, and performed on the 2020 ShipRocked Cruise with Beartooth, Halestorm, and Alter Bridge to name a few. Following their electrifying cover of Billy Idol’s 'Shock To The System', Lord Of The Lost have unveiled a brand-new official video for their cover of Roxette’s 'The Look'- already known from the band’s most successful album to date, Blood & Glitter (2022, #1 German album charts).  Now the song is re-released on the 2CD special edition - as well as digitally - on the first cover album in the band's history, Weapons Of Mass Seduction which is set to be released on 29th December 2023 via Napalm Records. The energising cover version and video features none other than German pop singer Blümchen as a duet partner, who has landed numerous top hits and sold millions of records since beginning her career as a teenage star in the 90s.

Weapons Of Mass Seduction features plenty of genre-crossing tracks and wraps up the busiest and most successful year in the band’s history so far. In addition to storming the charts with their latest studio album, being invited by the legendary Iron Maiden as special guest on their European tour (again), numerous sold-out headline shows, and opening gigs for Powerwolf and Amon Amarth, the band represented Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest finals in Liverpool in May of this year. Lord Of The Lost made it clear once again that they do not limit themselves when it comes to genre norms and influences. 

Vocalist Chris Harms on 'The Look': “Covering this song has been on my bucket list since I was a teenager. But it wasn't possible until now, because I didn't want just any singer at my side as a duet partner, but someone to whom Roxette means as much as it did to me from the very beginning. And I found this person in Jasmin, Blümchen. Moreover, without Per Gessle's songwriting, I wouldn't be the composer I am today. Our cover of 'The Look' is my chance to thank him for that.”

Blümchen (aka Jasmin Wagner) adds: "The Look' is our declaration of love to Roxette. Marie Fredriksson has left a huge gap. It's very nice to be able to honour her in this way and thank her for everything she gave us during her lifetime."

Weapons Of Mass Seduction features a wide range of songs from different eras and genres performed in true Lord Of The Lost style, all surprisingly fitting for the band and hence forming a cohesive collection of covers. Classic heavy metal track 'Turbo Lover', originally by Judas Priest, meets modern pop hits in songs such as Sia’s 'Unstoppable', Bishop Briggs’ 'River' and Zella Day’s 'High'. Ultravox’ 'Hymn', followed by Michael Jackson’s legendary 'Give In To Me' and Keane’s 'Somewhere Only We Know', expand the multifaceted selection even further. With added rougher elements such as heavier vocals, Bronski Beat’s captivating 80s electro pop hit 'Smalltown Boy' gets a dark makeover in the hands of Lord Of The Lost. The unit’s cover of another legendary 80s song, '(I Just) Died In Your Arms', features a guest appearance from rising singer-songwriter Anica Russo, who also took part in Germany’s ESC 2023 preliminary round Unser Lied für Liverpool (EN: Our Song for Liverpool). An emotional version of The Pretty Reckless’ 'House On A Hill' closes Weapons Of Mass Seduction impactfully. 

A special 2 CD edition of the new covers album provides a cross-cut of covers previously released or already covered live over the course of Lord Of The Lost’s career. Among them are the Roxette cover 'The Look' feat. Blümchen – already known from Blood & Glitter – 'Children Of The Damned', a homage to Iron Maiden, with whom Lord Of The Lost experienced intense times during the last two years, and the cover of the Finnish ESC song 'Cha Cha Cha' by Käärijä - sung by Chris Harms completely in Finnish.

Welsh post-hardcore legends Casey have unveiled new single 'Bite Through My Tongue', taken from their third album, How to Disappear, to be released 12th January via Hassle Records.

Vocalist Tom Weaver comments: "There are a handful of songs on How To Disappear that stem from the breakdown of my most recent relationship. This is the first on the record to touch on that, and it deals broadly with the extreme apathy and self-destructiveness that arises during a depressive episode; and how that impacts those closest to you.

"Often, when experiencing an episode of depression, my first reaction is generally to dissociate and distance myself from the world. That’s far easier to do when living alone; but when cohabiting (and particularly while isolating during the pandemic), it meant my partner would be subject to this level of apathy that felt impermeable to physical nor emotional pain. A type of numbness that would completely detach me from the reality of my life.

"This song is definitely an embellishment of those experiences; and doesn’t discuss the situation from a single perspective. It floats between the apathetic and the empath."

'Bite Through My Tongue' follows the band's previous single and album title track, which has seen huge radio support from Jack Saunders (Future Artists), Nels Hylton (Future Alternative) Daniel P Carter (Rock Show) Alyx Holcombe (Introducing Rock) on BBC Radio 1, and many more.

The news follows a joyous return for the quintet in 2023, including seven huge shows in the UK and Germany, and the limited release of their 7'' Atone/Great Grief (Hassle Records). 

Casey, at its core, was grounded in the notion that music is a labour of love. Without expectation of success, without desire to attain stardom, just a shared yearning to create music - and when this no longer rang true Casey stayed true to themselves, and stepped away.

In late 2018, when Casey announced they were bringing the band to a close, it felt like a premature demise. Their first two LPs - 2016 Love Is Not Enough and 2018’s Where I Go When I Am Sleeping – had firmly established the Welsh five-piece as one of the most exciting bands in Britain’s alternative scene.

Now, years later, the band have returned - bigger and better than ever before. Casey don't just replicate the feelings that inspire them - they embody them.
