Moscow born, Czech Republic raised and Brighton-based artist Aiko (pronounced eye-ko) has launched her bid to represent Czech Republic in the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest with her single 'Pedestal'.

'Pedestal'  is taken from her second album Fortune's child released earlier this year to huge acclaim. Distorted Sound (8/10) said it's "a fantastic example of a musician changing their sound without compromising their identity", with Bring The Noise (8/10) claiming it's both "thunderous" and "lyrically excellent". A household name in her motherland, Aiko has been featured in the likes of Cosmoplitan CZ and more.

Voting has now commenced and closes midnight 11th December, with 70% weighting given to international audiences.

"‘Slip into the Leather’ is about consumerism, selling sex, keeping up with the Jones’s. Kicking against all of that! "They tell you to pray to keep you on your knees…" alludes to religious and political systems being used to create hierarchy, to maintain control for the powers that be. However, more and more these people are being exposed for the crooks they really are. And we’re here for the downfall with jelly and ice cream!"

"Beyond the obviously sexual subject matter of the song, 'Loud' is about finding your confidence in giving 110% to things that may be outside of your immediate comfort zone," states frontman Brian Butcher.

"Sonically, ‘Loud’ gets into territories that we’ve always wanted to explore as artists, specifically in accessing a lot of groove and style, rather than just excessive energy. We wanted to take a pop approach to a song and rock-ify it, as opposed to the other way around (which we’ve found is a lot more common). 

“We had help from Skyler and Tyler Acord (Issues, Twenty-One Pilots, lophiile) on this song, and they did a fantastic job helping us realise our vision. It’s definitely a bit of a curveball genre-wise for us, which is why we wanted to release it before any other singles from our new album. There will be more familiar sounding songs as well, but we feel like 'Loud' is such a statement for how we want to write music going forward, and we feel so strongly about it, that it would be a shame not to lead with it. Being adventurous with new music can be nerve-wracking considering we don’t know if current fans will embrace it, but we hope that the people see our vision like we do and enjoy bumping the song."

Niklas Karlsson (guitars/vocals) states: "During the writing of our latest album Descent, we felt that the songs ‘Sound of The Bell’ and ‘The Upheaval' had a similar feel to the rest of the album, but they turned out to be way more experimental in the final recording stages. As it progressed, they simply felt more out of place. Heading home from the latest tour supporting Avatar, we knew we needed one more song to glue these two together and shortly thereafter, ‘While We Serve’ was born. It was the perfect glue to tie all the songs together and the cherry on the top for a new piece work to be presented. So, even though it’s a continuation of Descent, it turned out to be a release that could live independently. 

“The EP kicks off with 'While We Serve’ and it has a horror movie vibe going on, which I love. It’s fast, kind of old school, but of course, with the modern twists. One track that also stands out for me is 'Sound of The Bell' which, lyrically, I believe was the most difficult one I’ve ever written to date. I delved into the mass shootings and that sort of violence that’s on the news almost every day now. I think I really had to choose my words right and be very careful to show my utmost respect for people who’ve been faced with this cruelty, chaos and grieving, especially since I’ve never been in a situation like that myself.

"These last two to three years have really changed our lives. Everything goes so fast that it is sometimes difficult to stand back and put some perspective on it. You’re always on the hunt for the next thing. Coming home from this busy year, everything starts to creep in; for example, we opened up for Meshuggah six times, month-long tours with Avatar in the US two times, and had a blast for two weeks in the UK supporting Trivium. It’s hard to understand still, remembering that you’ve looked up to these bands for so many years, and now you’re out there becoming friends with them? It’s surreal. And the backbone of it all is, of course, our beloved fans, who I believe would go through fucking fires for us. They are the most dedicated and supportive group of people I’ve ever seen, and everyone is so lovely and polite. We wouldn’t be here without them and this EP is for them."

Canadian rock trio Royal Tusk announce their third full-length album, Altruistic, due 23rd February via MNRK Music Group, and release an accompanying documentary, Do No Wrong: The Making of Altruistic.

Spending nearly a year writing throughout the pandemic, the trio eventually hunkered down in Alberta’s Audio Department recording studio where they self-produced Altruistic. In the midst of the process, Carriere wound up in the throes of a year-long battle to get healthy after suffering from a blood clot in his lung. He lost over 20lbs and could barely speak. 

“Sandy [bassist] and Quinn [guitarist] helped me through the entire experience,” Carriere said. “These songs were written prior to this life-changing event, but they still tell a story of struggle, suffering, uncertainty, courage, and watching your back. It’s bizarre how that happened. When I think of them now, they definitely illustrate what we all went through.”

With an unwavering determination, the band faced highs and lows that pushed them to the brink, including an almost career-ending illness that threatened to shatter their dreams. Throughout their trials and tribulations of friendships, brotherhood and tenacity prevail. In the documentary, witness the raw emotion, sweat, and imaginative determination as they pour their hearts and souls into creating what is undeniably one of the most powerful rock albums of the decade. 

It's a story of passion, triumph over adversity, and the creation of a musical tour de force that will redefine your perception of rock 'n' roll and the human spirit.

Royal Tusk have already released three singles from this record including, 'All My Life', featuring vulnerable verses giving way to a riff-boosted refrain with words of encouragement, then there's 'Head Up', Carriere’s emotionally charged vocal delivery with a head-nodding guitar groove while, 'Relegate' stands out as a different kind of love song. Carriere says, “It’s about slipping away and losing your ground in a relationship like you can’t hold on.”

Progressive death metal outfit The Moor have shared new single 'The Overlord Disease', along with an artistic music video, courtesy of vocalist Enrico “Ukka” Longhin himself. The Italian quartet have also announced their upcoming album Ombra is set to drop on 23rd March 2024, and is available to pre-order now via Inertial Music.

This release promises an emotional exploration; delving deep into the labyrinthine realms of the creative process and the shadows that accompany it. The sonic prowess of Ombra is further elevated through the hands of legendary producer Fredrik Nordström (At The Gates, Soilwork, Dimmu Borgir), whose production brings unparalleled depth and richness. At Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Nordström meticulously mixed and mastered each track, ensuring an auditory experience that resonates with the album's concept and its raw emotion. 

Vocalist Enrico comments: “'The Overlord Disease' is one of the first songs I wrote for the album, probably one of the fastest, most most epic songs by The Moor. As the first single, I believe it's perfect to set the tone and to enter the atmosphere of Ombra. This song captures the raw essence of inner turmoil and the struggle against despair, a narrative of resilience in the face of tragedy, and a testament to the enduring strength found in unity, even within the darkest moments.”

Complementing the sonic tapestry is the visionary artwork by Niklas Sundin, an artist renowned for his ability to encapsulate the essence of musical journeys into vivid visuals. The Moor are a progressive metal band with ever-evolving facets of sound, hailing from Venice, Italy. Since their debut release in 2012, they have distinguished themselves through their innovative, atmospheric sound, incorporating elements of progressive rock, death and thrash metal, while retaining recognisable melodies and memorable choruses.

The band has collaborated with artists such as Mikael Stanne (Dark Tranquillity), Niklas Isfeldt (Dream Evil), and Björn Strid (Soilwork). The quartet is now composed of members of acts like Time and the Hunter (feat. Niklas Sundin), Folkstone, and historical underground acts like Bleed In Vain and Ensoph. The Moor are set to release their highly anticipated new album, mixed and mastered at Studio Fredman by Fredrik Nordström (In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, Architects, Dimmu Borgir, Obscura...) in early 2024. The Moor sound explores a mix of progressive metal, electronica, and melodic death metal influences.
