VENUES release video for new single 'Radiate Me'

German post-hardcore quartet VENUES have released a video for their new single 'Radiate Me', out now via Arising Empire. The track follows recent singles 'Haunted House''Cravings''Reflections' and 'Oblivion', as well as the band's critically acclaimed sophomore album Solace.

Check out the video for 'Radiate Me' here: https://youtu.be/QMPSeu-XsG8

Stream/purchase 'Radiate Me' here: https://arisingempire.com/radiateme

'Radiate Me' is an introspective track about overcoming personal challenges and striving for self-improvement. The song's powerful lyrics depict a battle with inner demons, using vivid imagery like a 'pest plant' to symbolise life's negative influences. 'Radiate Me' stands as an anthem for those struggling with their inner selves, emphasising the beauty of a life beyond personal turmoil.

Vocalist Robin comments:

"The last year was quite tough for me, as my mother was diagnosed with two types of cancer. She immediately took up the fight and underwent chemotherapy, which was extremely hard on her. I drove her to various hospitals time and again, took care of the household, and cared for her as a person. But primarily, I saw her suffer and what the poison of this treatment did to her. The chemotherapy almost killed her. 'Radiate Me' is all of that in one song. As it stands now, she is doing well and we all hope that it stays that way. F*ck cancer!"

VENUES went into the studio with producer Christoph Wieczorek (Annisokay) to record their latest album Solace (2021, Arising Empire), who coated their massive sound with a metallic alloy of remarkable precision.

“We wanted to be more metal,” Robin comments. “There were some pop sensibilities of Aspire we wanted to replace with rather the opposite.”

Melody and punch-drunk heaviness, metal and alternative rock, zeitgeist and authenticity, barbed choruses and unleashed creativity: with their soaring sophomore release, VENUES fulfiled every single promise they gave on Solace.

“2020 showed all of us how much the band is helping us keep our sanity,” guitarist Robin muses. “Almost the whole band went through minor or medium crises since the release of our debut. Relationships went sour, things were ended and begun. In times like these, our second album was the light at the end of the tunnel. Something we all could look forward to. Our music held our heads above water.”

It was a big leap, going from previous album Aspire to Solace, and a logical one, too. Ten songs, ten exorcisms of negative energy, ten lifesavers.

Bob Vylan to headline Primordial General Mayhem 2024

Primordial Radio is hugely excited to announce that the unique and ever-evolving London duo Bob Vylan will headline the main event of the Primordial General Mayhem on Saturday 27th April 2024. They replace Creeper who have cancelled due to other commitments. Also announced are four-piece, loud, unapologetic, rock outfit  As December Falls as main support.

Also confirmed across the weekend are BlackgoldThe Barstool Preachers, Saint Agnes, Calva Louise and North Atlas, with more to be announced soon.

Following the resounding success of the sold-out 2023 edition, the Primordial General Mayhem has solidified its reputation as the paramount gathering for both dedicated Primordial members and rock and metal fans alike. Combining the power of music and community, the event has previously hosted the likes of SkindredThose Damn CrowsDevin Townsend and many more over the past five years with Knotfest describing it as a "Grand Spectacle of Rock Fury".

Building on the success of the 2023 sold-out event, the Primordial General Mayhem 2024 will be a two-day event with all band performances taking place in the main room at KK’s Steel Mill in Wolverhampton, UK on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th April 2024.

Humble as the Sun, the forthcoming album from Bob Vylan continues with much of the rage and urgency that they have come to be known and loved for, but this latest project shows that they are now stronger and wiser, bolstered by the wins and learnings that they have fought hard for along the way. The resulting record aims to leave the listener feeling power alongside their anger, and brings a fresh and compelling blend of punk, rock, grime and rap together in an experimental way.

Following on from the MOBO award-winning and chart-topping album, Bob Vylan Presents the Price of Life, the message woven throughout Humble as the Sun remains dark in places but is high-energy, defiant and unapologetic in its critique of a broken social and political system that so many have fallen victim to, but feel powerless against.

As December Falls are a long way from their beginnings. The band achieved self-sufficiency early on as a matter of survival after being told they were ‘too this’ and ‘too that’ from the industry gatekeepers. Their DIY attitude and business know-how resulted in the band selling out 90% of shows on their most recent headline tour around the UK and appearing at DownloadSlam Dunk Festival, 2000 Trees and more.

Their new album Join The Club made a hugely impressive debut at No.11 in the UK Album Charts with their most recent tour selling over 10,000 tickets across the UK.

Following their immensely successful tours alongside Limp Bizkit and Skindred, nu-metal powerhouse Blackgold is poised to captivate the audience at Primordial General Mayhem. Joining them is vibrant Brighton punk rockers, The Bar Stool Preachers, who will be bringing their infectious sound to the PGM for the first time.

Joining the stellar lineup of bands, Primordial Radio is thrilled to introduce Saint Agnes and Calva Louise, to their inaugural performances at the Primordial General Mayhem. Additionally, they extend a warm welcome back to North Atlas, who made a memorable appearance at the PGM in 2022. Since then, the band has significantly expanded their fan base through successful performances alongside Atreyu, Enter ShikariLost Society, and at Download Festival.

Speaking about the Primordial General Mayhem 2024, Music Director Pete Bailey states:

"After the huge success of the PGM 2023, we knew we had our work cut out for us, but this is beyond anything we could have hoped for. Whilst we were of course disappointed Creeper had to withdraw, this bill is nothing short of a showcase of the immense talent we have in the UK and for those that attended the PGM in 2022 will know just how electric Bob Vylan’s live shows are. This is going to be a very special event; we can’t wait to see you all in April! "

German metalcore quartet MAVIS celebrate album release with new single

German heavy music ensemble MAVIS, featuring vocalist Phil Donay, guitarist Manu Weller, bass player Mo Amrein, and drummer Jakob Schulz-Klein, are proud to present their debut full-length record, Grief is no Ally, out now via Arising Empire

The band have also released a captivating music video for their standout track 'Limerent', featuring Lela Gruber (Venues) on vocals. The video, a vivid representation of MAVIS's artistic vision, merges striking visuals with their dynamic music style, showcasing the strong synergy between the band and Lela.

Order Grief is no Ally here: https://arisingempire.com/griefisnoally

Grief is no Ally marks a major step in MAVIS's evolving career. The album, featuring eleven vibrant singles, captures their unique sound and lively performance style.

This first album reflects MAVIS's commitment and skill, with each single resonating deeply with fans. Their collaboration with Lela on 'Limerent' underscores their ability to forge impactful connections. More than just an album, this release is a declaration of MAVIS's artistic identity, positioning them as a promising new influence in the music scene, enthusiastically welcomed by both long-time and new fans.

The title of the record stands for 11 stories of different forms of grieving, ranging from the dark and negative sides to the positive and healthy aspects of embracing grief, letting go.

MAVIS planned the release of a full length in 2020 but were immediately struck with multiple setbacks in their young history. Not only did the beginning of the pandemic hit them right at the outset of their journey but so too did line-up changes due to illness, mental issues or members giving up on making music entirely. Just as they started playing again roughly eighteen months ago, their bad luck peaked with a studio fire in which they lost instruments, equipment and all merchandise. Right around that time, the two remaining members of MAVIS found a new drive, looking to complete their line-up once again. Since then the quartet have worked tirelessly on putting all their experiences into the songs that now make this jewel of a debut record. Going into the studio with a “nothing is holy”-attitude to produce the best music they can, their efforts paid off, finally, for everyone to hear.

Escuela Grind reveal new single with Barney Greenway (Napalm Death)

USA extreme metal powerhouse, Escuela Grind, will release their new EP, DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALL, on 12th January 2024 via MNRK Heavy.

The quartet have today (15th December) released their new single 'Meat Magnet', featuring the legendary Napalm Death vocalist Barney Greenway.

Watch here: https://youtu.be/3lRNrxSmGNk

Directed by Michael Jari Davidson (Alice In Chains), the unsettling cut features a vox-off between Greenway and Escuela Grind vocalist Katerina Economou interspliced with exhilarating live footage of the band tearing it down.

Recorded with Will Killingsworth, mixed by the GRAMMY-winning Kurt Ballou (High on Fire), and mastered by Nick Townsend (Cheap TrickDr. Dre), the EP houses four new songs including the lead cut, 'Ball and Chain'.

Pre-order and/or pre-save DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALL now here: https://escuelagrind.ffm.to/ddmm

"Meat Magnet' is a pretty crunchy sort of track, and I was able to really wrap my vocal cords around it," says Greenway when asked for comment on the collaboration. "Enthusiasm oozes out of the pores of Escuela Grind. How can you not get on board with that?"

In sync with the release of DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALLEscuela Grind will launch a U.S. headlining tour on 10th January. The five-week, 39-city winter trek will criss-cross the country, running through 17th February. Support on the Escuela Grind tour will be provided by Take OffenseCome MeirdaSlow PulseBonginatorFrog Mallet, and Brat.

Escuela Grind's DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALL EP is the crown jewel in a themed trilogy of releases, including the duo of 2020 EPs PPOOWWEERRVVIIOOLLEENNCCEE and GGRRIINNDDCCOORREE, which saw the band espousing their unique takes on the respective underground music sub-genres. DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALL delivers the first new Escuela Grind music since the release of last year's celebrated full-length LP, Memory Theater, hailed by The New York Times as ''an opus of extremity", "witheringly intense yet righteously life-affirming" by SPIN, "the heaviest Escuela Grind have ever sounded" by Decibel, both "a masterclass in punishing, invigorating grindcore" and "a fascinatingly intellectual take on the genre" by Revolver, and "a multifaceted album that goes beyond 'fast and faster' simplicity" by Metal Hammer.

Fresh off U.S. spotlight tour dates with Baroness, and the extreme metal legends, Napalm Death, who have taken the young U.S. band under its proverbial wing in 2023, Escuela Grind are inarguably one of the hungriest young groups in music today. Escuela Grind have engaged in a seemingly unending live gauntlet since the September 2022 release of Memory Theater, relentlessly trekking the globe to bring their eye-opening energy and sound to welcoming music fans the world over.

DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALL is the third installment of our EP series where we dive into the genres that most influence this band," offers Economou. "Finishing this trilogy has been years in the works. We are so excited to release these songs as they are perhaps the best reflection of our live performance. The stage has honed these hectic songs to perfection. Originally we were going to have three songs on this EP, but we wanted to create another track that had a huge buildup. This eventually developed into this brutal song, 'Ball and Chain', that marks the point in our live shows where we have a wall of death every night. Lyrically, it references death metal tropes of murder and revenge, but with a decidedly feminine angle."

Ihsahn releases second single/video 'Twice Born' ahead of album release

Art taps into the metaphysical and the archetypes of our existence - it lets us experience loss, death, love - it prepares us for all of those things in some way. That’s the value, that’s the perspective I wish to create from.” - Ihsahn

Ihsahn has released the second single from his forthcoming eponymous album. 'Twice Born' is a fraught maelstrom of symphonic metal which continues the conceptual storyline from previous single, 'Pilgrimage To Oblivion'.

New album, definitively titled Ihsahn, will be released on 16th February 2024 via Candlelight Records. Daring to push the realms of creative expressionism even further with his eighth studio offering, the Norwegian progressive metal visionary will release two melodically interlinked versions of the same album: one prog metal, one fully symphonic, both creating a cinematically-influenced masterpiece.

Accompanying the new single are two videos, one for each version (metal and orchestral). The video for the metal version was filmed by Shaun Hodson at Loki Films. For the orchestral version of the track, an animated visualiser by Costin Chioreanu has been created.

Commenting on the new track, "This second single, 'Twice Born', picks up the conceptual narratives right where the previous single, 'Pilgrimage to Oblivion', ended. Both the metal version of this song and orchestral version will be accompanied by two more videos, continuing the storylines. Musically this song is perhaps slightly more playful than 'Pilgrimage To Oblivion' but follows the same interplay of screams, guitars and orchestra."

Whilst his musical journey has been frequently revelatory, the masterful control of rhythm and movement displayed throughout Ihsahn shows his work as a songwriter and composer at its most focused and self assured. A gargantuan endeavour and one that Ihsahn professes to be one of the most complex projects he has ever undertaken, is a labyrinthine rabbit-hole of his own design; the scale of ambition immediately apparent. Wholly self-produced and scored over the course of three years, the metal version has been mixed by Jens Bogren, the orchestral version mixed by Joel Dollié and both versions were mastered by Tony LindgrenIhsahn freely admits that the process pushed him to his limits. It began, simply, with a piano.

Comments Ihsahn, “On average, I´ve been releasing a full-length album every second year since I was 16. And, you know, that has given me some opportunity to explore different options, so for my eighth full-length solo record, I thought, ‘okay, how can I do what I do best, but also raise the bar tenfold? At the heart of what I do is black metal, extreme distorted guitars and screaming, but since the earliest Emperor recordings you’ll hear the keyboard parts influenced by classic soundtracks by the likes of Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, Bernard Herrmann, John Carpenter and so on. So, I approached the writing with the intent to present the material in its full-blown metal expression, but also to arrange the orchestral parts in such a way that they would work independently. Somehow an attempt to write a soundtrack within the structures of the full production, allowing me to explore different, and sometimes contrasting, variations of essentially the same music. In the end I wrote all the music as a piano short-score and arranged it for a typical band ensemble and orchestra, accordingly, making sure everything interlocked.”

It’s that compositional core that allowed Ihsahn to build the two records from the ground up – a Herculean feat for the self-professed, self-taught musician, but it is perhaps that very absence of formal training that allowed him to throw out the rulebook and simply follow his instincts, and the time afforded by the pandemic created the natural gap required to so heavily invest himself in the project. That self-induced pressure came from a desire to keep his loyal fanbase and himself interested, which is not only the defining feature of his latest record, but it’s also the central characteristic of his entire solo career.

Joining Ihsahn on this album are Tobias Ørnes Andersen and Tobias Solbakk on drums and percussion, with Ihsahn's son Angell Solberg Tveitan adding additional percussion and violins by Chris Baum. Artwork for the album was created by Ritxi Ostariz with all promotional photography by Andy Ford

Not satisfied to only create a dual-record, there is also a conceptual story which underpins both sides of Ihsahn – a pair of separate but interwoven Wagnerian narratives revolving around the traditional hero’s journey, and while Ihsahn is reticent to tell all, he is confident that meaning will soon emerge for listeners willing to show equal commitment.

About Ihsahn

Since 1991 Ihsahn has defied expectations and pushed boundaries. More than any other artist to emerge from the fertile black metal scene of the early ‘90s, Ihsahn has firmly established himself as an unpredictable maverick. As the founding frontman of Emperor he is universally lauded as one of extreme music’s most important and influential voices, and he stands as the figurehead for what was arguably black metal’s creative apex. What is even more important to note is that as a solo artist Ihsahn has all but outgrown the confines of that achievement, and over the course of seven records he has forged a sterling reputation for innovation and unabashed originality that’s as genre-bending as it is gleefully indifferent to the weight of expectation. Starting with the release of 2006’s critically acclaimed The Adversary he has never made the same record twice, and it is that resistance to a templated approach that has become the cornerstone of his gloriously creative second act.

FLOYA announce debut album & release video for new single 'Drift'

FLOYA have announced their debut album Yume, due for release on 8th March via Arising Empire. The band have also released a video for their new single 'Drift'.

Check out the video for 'Drift' here: https://youtu.be/2_3E183meUI

Pre-orders of Yume will be available from Friday 15th December: https://arisingempire.com/yume

'Drift' is filled with genre-bending moments and conveys a clear message: do what you love, there’s not enough time for anything else. The duo elevate listeners with powerful, airy synths, Marv’s romantic guitar riffs, and Phil’s unmistakable, angelic voice.

“I don't think I've ever written a song this honest before,” says vocalist Phil“I've grappled with ambivalent emotions toward my career, to be completely transparent. There were moments when I doubted whether I could continue doing what I love. I turned my back on music for a while and, as a result, lost a significant part of my identity. 'Drift' is about precisely that: dealing with ambivalence, overcoming doubts, and enabling you to continue doing what you love.”

Hailing from Germany, Marv Wilder and Phil Bayer found common ground by talking about their childhood influences, namely Peter GabrielU2 Sting

Since the release of their debut single 'Wonders' in March 2022, FLOYA have amassed over eight million streams on Spotify alone. Their single 'The Hymn' was featured in an official AFL game between Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs on Australian television; an impressive achievement for a newly launched act. FLOYA have also received significant airplay from Kerrang! Radio (UK) and Radio Contact (BE).

Enterprise Earth release haunting new single / video 'Casket of Rust'

Enterprise Earth have released their latest heavy hitter 'Casket of Rust', taken from the band's forthcoming new album Death: An Anthology, out on 2nd February via MNRK Heavy.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/9xmDZks01QA

Stream the single here: https://enterprise-earth.ffm.to/casketofrust

Pre-save Death: An Anthology here: https://enterprise-earth.ffm.to/deathananthology

Speaking on the single's lyrics, vocalist Travis Worland commented: “Lyrically, it touches on the death of yourself in a relationship. You’re killing of anything you had in order to appease another person and destroying pieces of yourself. You built this casket for so long that it has time to decay and rust before you bury yourself in it.”

Prior to today, the band unleashed 'King of Ruination' with special guest Ben Duerr from Shadow of Intent and most recently, 'The Reaper's Servant' featuring Darius Tehrani of Spite

More than anything else, we share death in common. This universal eventuality unites us. In an evolutionary sense, it effectively ensures our equality. No matter who you are, you will die. Enterprise Earth explore death from a different perspective altogether. Rather than turn away from it, the U.S. quartet—Gabe Mangold [guitar, backing vocals, production], Brandon Zackey [drums], Travis Worland [vocals], and Dakota Johnson [bass]—face it head-on with their fifth full-length offering, Death: An Anthology. Against an apocalyptic soundtrack of battering ram double bass drums, gut-punching guitars, and disarmingly dynamic vocals, the group present their most immersive and inimitable vision yet.

“The album is tied together by the overarching concept of death,” Travis states. “It’s easy to think of death as a separation of consciousness from the body, but we’re delving into the death of self, individuality, and relationships—whether romantic or platonic. Dying takes many forms. I grew up extremely religious, so death has always been on my mind. In any religion, the afterlife is the umbrella for all of your beliefs. I tend to think of death from a more philosophical standpoint these days.”

The band have always incited mosh pits and thought in equal measure. Since emerging during 2014, Enterprise Earth have logged two back-to-back debuts in the Top 10 of the Billboard Heatseekers Albums Chart, while Loudwire cited Luciferous among the “50 Best Metal Albums of 2019.” Hysteria Mag heralded 2022’s The Chosen as “a veritable masterclass in experimentation and reinvention that shows a highly skilled band transcending its roots and making steps to become leaders of a field still being created,” while Metal Injection summed it up as “a strong statement.” Plus having toured with the likes of Thy Art Is Murder, Dying Fetus, Chelsea Grin, Fit For An Autopsy, Fallujah, Within Destruction, and more.

With Gabe once again in the producer’s chair, the musicians holed up in a Lake Tahoe cabin for nine days where they penned the bulk of Death: An Anthology. It marked the first time this line-up wrote together (and in-person) as well as with Travis on vocal duties.

“We fed off one another’s energy,” recalls Gabe“These songs felt cohesive because of that. We all had a hand in the composition.”

In the end, death may be inevitable, but you can rely on Enterprise Earth for a release in the meantime.

“We wanted to make an album that feels like who we are as a collective,” the band agreed. “On the one hand, we hope you have fun listening to it. On the other, just know, ‘Death is real and it comes for us all’. One day, we won’t be here anymore. While we’re alive, we want to enjoy it.”

Alleviate's powerful new single 'Better' explores themes of self-doubt and the journey towards self-improvement. More than just reflecting personal struggles, 'Better' stands as an inspiring call to action, encouraging listeners to face their fears and ambitiously chase their dreams.

Swedish metal visionaries EVERGREY release piano/vocal version of 'Call Out The Dark'

Swedish metal veterans EVERGREY have released a new version of their #1 streamed track 'Call Out The Dark'.

Listen to the emotional piano version here, recorded at EVERGREY HQ: https://youtu.be/9yu_fwBxRgs

The new single is taken from the band’s upcoming anniversary album, From Dark Discoveries to Heartless Portraits, a celebration of 30 years of Gothenburg’s finest export of darkness, due for release this Friday, 15th December, via Napalm Records.

The original version of 'Call Out The Dark' was released on EVERGREY’s highly acclaimed 2022 album, A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament), which entered charts worldwide at #3 in Sweden (Metal), #7 in Finland, #12 in Germany and ranked #5 on the Top New Artist Albums charts in the United States. The new, beautifully stripped-down version of the song comes with a fitting official video.

Jonas Ekdahl states: "I love how Tom and Rikard manage to take these songs and transform them into something unique and different than its original form and sound. If you manage to remove all the production elements within a song and strip everything down to its essence, and still feel that it holds up and sounds good – you know it’s a good song! That’s exactly what they have done with these piano/vocal versions in my opinion. This version of ’Call Out The Dark’ delivers slightly darker vibe and the lyrics stand out and reach you even more than on the original version."

Since their very first record, 1998’s The Dark Discovery, the Swedish entity around founder, singer and guitarist Tom S. Englund - one of the most distinctive vocals in metal - has enthralled fans and critics alike with their matchless skill in merging progressive heaviness with intense melodic metal, topped by gripping lyrics that run shivers down one’s spine. To date, the band has gathered numerous worldwide chart positions with thirteen studio albums in total, and in 2022, the five-piece proved again - even after 30 years of existence - that their creativity sees no bounds with the release of the flawless A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament).
