The band comment: “Although in a very different style, 'The Collapse' was originally written way back in 2017 during our time at university. Used as part of our songwriting course, we submitted it almost as a throwaway song, and as a result, didn’t resurface again until mid 2023. When we went back and re-listened, time had given us fresh ears, and allowed us to rework and really bring out the potential in what is now a song we’re super proud of. The song used to be centred around just piano and a solo vocal. For it to have blossomed into something so wildly differing in texture is really, really cool for us.

"It fits nicely into what feels like a transitional period for us as a band. Whilst we work on material for our debut full-length, we also want to give time and attention to songs that we’ve either reworked or written in past, that otherwise wouldn’t have a home because they don’t quite fit the mould of the direction we’re heading in. 'The Collapse' is one of those songs - it’s nice to give it it’s own piece of the limelight.”

Exploring Birdsong will be headlining London's Downstairs at the Dome (formerly Boston Music Room) on 16th February. Support comes from Blanket. Get your tickets: https://linktr.ee/exploringbirdsong

Exploring Birdsong's new single follows the band's stunning Deftones cover of 'Diamond Eyes', and the band's second EP Dancing in the Face of Danger (March 2023, Long Branch Records), released to rave reviews worldwide. The band wanted to draw a line in the sand following Dancing in the Face of Danger to mark the start of a new chapter as a band, and, through coincidence, eventually ended up working with a new production team (Tom Peters - engineering and mixing & Grant Berry - mastering) which has helped bookend the Dancing in the Face of Danger period. They comment: "We wanted to experiment sonically before heading into full-length album territory, which is why we think it feels different to anything we’ve released previously."

The young group recently joined Katatonia as special guest for their shows in Ireland - the first live performances since their European debut at Euroblast Festival (Cologne, DE), mainstage set at RADAR Festival, and inaugural headline tour across the UK in September 2021, including London, Manchester and Birmingham, and following successful support tours with the likes of Sleep Token and Thank You Scientist.

Rarely are new groups as exciting, talented or unique as Exploring Birdsong. Straddling pop, progressive rock and uncategorisable genre-blending beauty, the band are unplaceable for the most part, but bring to mind elements of Kate BushSleep Token, Everything Everything and Agent Fresco.

Rarely too do you hear voices as captivating as frontwoman Lynsey Ward’s. Powerful, controlled, and spine-chillingly tender, Lynsey’s vocals help mark Exploring Birdsong as a prospect to watch, from the release of their acclaimed debut The Thing With Feathers (2019, Long Branch Records) to 2023's EP Dancing in the Face of Danger.

Bears in Trees release punchy new single 'Hot Chocolate'

Croydon’s self-appointed DIY “dirtbag boyband”, Bears in Trees, have released their gritty and urgent new single 'Hot Chocolate'. The track is the second taste of their upcoming album How to Build an Ocean: Instructions, due for release on 26th April via I Sure Hope It Does

A detour from the optimistic sound they’ve become synonymous with, yet still ferociously sincere, ‘Hot Chocolate’ packs a punch and is built on a foundation of angst and a newfound awakening. Littered with infusions of indie, pop-rock and folk-punk akin to the likes of one of their key influences, The Front Bottoms, the aggressive but enthusiastic song vents about letting go of the expectation that not every moment of life needs to be a significant, picture-perfect memory.

“Up to a certain point in my life, every party/night out/conversation felt like The Most Important Thing That Had Ever Happened and Will Ever Happen, Ever,” explains guitarist Nick Peters. “This song is about letting go of that feeling, and realising that somethings are literally just fine how they are.”

The upcoming album, How to Build an Ocean: Instructions, is a project doused in personal conflict, but simultaneously a love letter to the normal and how beauty can be found in just being. Charged with references to literature, philosophy and film, as well as first hand experiences, the band explore thoughts of what it means to find purpose when everything feels purposeless, all whilst ultimately instructing themselves to find “small joys in the face of cosmic indifference.” Produced by George Perks (Enter Shikari, The Doves, You Me At Six), How to Build an Ocean: Instructions marks an exciting new development for Bears in Trees, being the first album they’ve recorded with the help of consultants outside of the band themselves, having previously relied on drummer George’s expertise, who outside of the band, works as an engineer at Subfrantic Studios

Tenderness, triumph, and a totally unashamed feeling of enjoying the ride whilst they're on it, How to Build an Ocean: Instructions is their definitive statement. Though no matter how far this record takes them, the most important thing is that they are together and doing what they love. Because when all is said and done, that's the connection that will last a lifetime. "We started the band because we loved hanging out with our friends and wanted to make stupid music together," Iain concludes. "That's always been the reason, and it hasn't changed. All we want to do is make what we do as honest and authentic as possible. That's what it means to be in the Bears in Trees business."

The record started to take its early form as far back as November 2022, when the band were still reeling from the release of their 2021 full-length and everybody else smiled back. That explains why it feels like the most mature and marinated version of Bears in Trees. There was honesty in the songwriting selection process; there’s a different depth than in past offerings. It embraces that Bears in Trees isn't the same as it was at the beginning of their journey, that pressure, debate and dispute are necessary to move forward.

The artwork is a testimonial to the band’s hometown of Croydon, marking places they've existed across their adolescence and into adulthood, such as Lloyd Park, a location reminiscent of turning 18 and being obsessed with Monster Energy, to Floor 13, an abandoned floor in a car park where they used to hang out as kids. "For us, Croydon is all about the history you feel when you're going to work or to the studio every day, and you're getting the same bus you got to school," guitarist Nick ponders. "You're seeing all of these places from your past. We are surrounded by our memories no matter what." They had returned to the town after an extended period on the road, including a support slot in the UK with You Me At Six and a trek across the US. Though appreciative of how their borough had shaped them, it was difficult not to feel like they had taken a step backwards. Watching friends move whilst remaining in the same location they did as teenagers proved challenging to adapt to. From that feeling, came inspiration for the record.

Connoisseurs of the digital age, the band built their reputation themselves from scratch, foregoing the traditional media routes and climbing the social media ropes. They obtained millions of likes on TikTok and engaged with their fanbase proactively on Discord and Patreon, before ever dipping their toes in the music industry support pool. This impressive knowledge of navigating internet culture, paired with their vivacious, comedic charm, and easy listening and bright bops have earned them a passionate and loyal following of  ‘sandboxes’ (the allocated fanbase name), saw them sell out London’s Electric Ballroom and play alongside artists such as Pale Waves, NOAHFINNCE, Waterparks, The Maine and Lovejoy, as well as scoring festival slots at Slam Dunk, 2000trees, Community and many more.

Known for their dynamic blend of intense riffs and melodic harmonies, Sable Hills continue to redefine the boundaries of metalcore, captivating fans across the globe. Odyssey promises to be a groundbreaking addition to their discography, showcasing their unique style and musical prowess. Fans are eagerly counting down the days to the full album release, anticipating a collection of tracks that will further cement Sable Hills' status as titans of their genre.

Guitarist Rict comments: "The new song 'No Turning Back' is full of energy. You can mosh, stagedive, circlepit, singalong, whatever you want to do in metal/hardcore live. The song is fast and short, within 3 minutes. And we feature one of the metalcore legends as well as our goodfriend Trevor Phipps of Unearth on the song. We toured with Unearth in Japan and Taiwan. And making the friendship, this happened. So honored to feature him at this time, and so excited to see how people react to the song."

Sable Hills have captivated audiences with their electrifying headline tours, notably Chaos J.P. 2023, which featured the likes of Like Moths To Flames and Knosis, led by Ryo Kinoshita, former vocalist of Crystal Lake. This tour marked an important return to Japan for these acts after a long hiatus.

The band's ascent to prominence was ignited by their debut album EMBERS (2019), which received widespread acclaim and positioned them at the pinnacle of Japan's metal scene, allowing them to share the stage with renowned Japanese bands such as coldrainCrystal Lake, and international heavyweights Fit For A King and After The Burial. Appearing at major festivals Bloodaxe Festival at Club Citta Kawasaki and True North Festival at Shin-Kiba Studio Coast further enhanced their reputation.

The release of their second album DUALITY marked another high point in their career. The album's release tour, extending from Japan to Europe, included performances at Wacken Open Air in Germany and Brutal Assault in the Czech Republic. At Wacken 2022Sable Hills achieved an historic victory, winning the METAL BATTLE 2022, a first for a Japanese band.

In 2023, the band kept on striving forward, selling out their show at Spotify O-WEST and performing at major festivals including coldrain's BLARE FESTKNOTFEST and at Wacken Open Air for the second consecutive year. Their very own FRONTLINE FESTIVAL at Kawasaki Club Citta was a resounding success, attracting close to 1000 attendees.

Symphonic metal supergroup Exit Eden unveil video for spellbinding Mylène Farmer cover 'Désenchantée' for Valentine's Day

Symphonic metal unit Exit Eden, consisting of Clémentine Delauney (Visions of Atlantis), Anna Brunner (League of Distortion) and Marina La Torraca (Phantom Elite), have unveiled a stunning new music video for their shimmering cover version of French iconic pop artist Mylène Farmer’s 'Désenchantée'.

French-born Clémentine Delauney presents the track in her mother tongue – which marks the very first time ever doing so for a whole song. 'Désenchantée' is cut from the band’s second studio album, Femmes Fatales, and, together with the accompanying music video, lures the listener into the mysterious world of Mylène Farmer, showing a whole new exciting facet of Exit Eden.

Purchase the album here: https://lnk.to/EXITEDEN-FemmesFatales/napalmrecords

Clémentine Delauney on the song: “Reflecting upon the journey that shaped the woman I've become, I, Clementine, delved into the influences of my youth – the individuals and artists who ignited my inspiration. Among them, Mylène Farmer, a pop artist whose universe, thoughts, and messages I held in high regard during my teenage years. Her poetry, distinctiveness, and bittersweet perspective on life, with a touch of melancholy, left an indelible mark. I am convinced that her portrayal of despair and loneliness remains relevant to this day.

"In our video rendition of 'Désenchantée,' I aimed to pay homage to this iconic song and the unparalleled artist behind it. Seeking to evoke the essence of the 90s, the era of its inception, I imagined a way to connect it to the contemporary landscape of 2024 - a world where the evolution of our digital lives has heightened the sense of isolation.

"Releasing on Valentine's Day, this tribute is for anyone feeling lonely in our super-connected world.”

In addition to its six cover versions of famous cross-generational super-hits, Femmes Fatales is the trio’s first record featuring original songs, written by Anna Brunner and Hannes Braun (Kissin’ Dynamite), with one exception, 'Dying in my Dreams', co-written by Marina La Torraca. Exit Eden’s new masterpiece follows their debut, Rhapsodies in Black (#15 DE album charts), and millions of video views (12M on their cover of Bonnie Tyler’s 'Total Eclipse Of The Heart' alone). The album, in its entirety, marks an illustration of strength and female empowerment topped with symphonic heaviness.

When Clémentine Delauney, Anna Brunner, Marina La Torraca and Amanda Somerville came together to form EXIT EDEN, topped by the release of their first album, Rhapsodies in Black, in summer 2017, it became immediately clear that this combination would be both powerful and magical. These four outstanding and independent female vocalists proved that symphonic heaviness can go hand in hand with pop music - dressing well-known classics in a yet unheard soundscape, and evoking more than just a covers album.

Now performing as a trio, EXIT EDEN's new full-length follows the path of its predecessor, as it contains six cover versions of famous cross-generational super-hits, but this time also shines by offering six original compositions. With one exception ('Dying in my Dreams', co-written by Marina La Torraca), the remaining five original songs were brought to life by Anna Brunner and Hannes Braun (Kissin’ Dynamite), who is also responsible for recording, production and mixing, whereas the album was mastered by Jacob Hansen (Delain, Amaranthe, Volbeat, Destruction and many more).

Femmes Fatales will be available in the following formats:

I'm happy with every aspect of this piece!"

Nick Johnston will tour Europe in 2024 as part of the Electric Guitarlands tour with Angel VivaldiFlorian Opahle and Rowan Robertson. Dates to be announced soon. Nick will also appear at the Larvick Guitar Festival on 16th March alongide Nili Brosh and more.

Canadian rockers Royal Tusk release video for 'Hated'

Photo Credit: Kidpixel & Travis Nesbit

Canadian rock trio Royal Tusk have released a video for their new single 'Hated', taken from their third full-length album, Altruistic, due 23rd February via MNRK Music Group.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/8MC4F7I1fAs

Stream here: https://royal-tusk.ffm.to/hated

Royal Tusk bottle raw feelings of alienation into a clarion call on 'Hated'. The soaring melody resounds with undeniable honesty underlined by fret-burning lead licks.

“It was written from the point-of-view of someone who is labeled unredeemable,” said frontman, Daniel Carriere. “It doesn’t campaign for this person’s innocence, but it poses a question. If our world can’t believe an individual can change, it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy. Change is a running theme for this body of work. I think people can and do change. It’s the hardest thing, yet it’s possible.”

Pre-order / pre-save Altruistic here: https://royal-tusk.ffm.to/altruistic

Spending nearly a year writing throughout the pandemic, the trio eventually hunkered down in Alberta’s Audio Department recording studio where they self-produced Altruistic. In the midst of the process, Carriere wound up in the throes of a year-long battle to get healthy after suffering from a blood clot in his lung. He lost over 20lbs and could barely speak.

Sandy [bassist] and Quinn [guitarist] helped me through the entire experience,” Carriere said. “These songs were written prior to this life-changing event, but they still tell a story of struggle, suffering, uncertainty, courage, and watching your back. It’s bizarre how that happened. When I think of them now, they definitely illustrate what we all went through.”

With an unwavering determination, the band faced highs and lows that pushed them to the brink, including an almost career-ending illness that threatened to shatter their dreams. Throughout their trials and tribulations of friendships, brotherhood and tenacity prevail. In the documentary, witness the raw emotion, sweat, and imaginative determination as they pour their hearts and souls into creating what is undeniably one of the most powerful rock albums of the decade.

It's a story of passion, triumph over adversity, and the creation of a musical tour de force that will redefine your perception of rock 'n' roll and the human spirit.

Royal Tusk have already released three singles from this record including, 'All My Life', featuring vulnerable verses giving way to a riff-boosted refrain with words of encouragement, then there's 'Head Up', Carriere’s emotionally charged vocal delivery with a head-nodding guitar groove while, 'Relegate' stands out as a different kind of love song. Carriere says, “It’s about slipping away and losing your ground in a relationship like you can’t hold on.”

The Alberta trio consists of Daniel Carriere (vocals), Quinn Cyrankiewicz (guitar), and Sandy MacKinnon (bass). They fuse hypnotic hooks to hard-hitting riffs, offset by untethered rhythms and undeniably honest lyrics.

In 2014, the band buzzed out of Edmonton with the Mountain EP. They evolved across releases such as DealBreaker (2017) and Tusk II (2018) which Billboard proclaimed “The LP steps beyond what fans heard on DealBreaker”. Among many standouts in their catalogue, 'Curse The Weather' generated 10.4 million+ Spotify streams, followed by 'Aftermath' with 6.8 million Spotify streams. Royal Tusk have toured with Pop Evil, Monster Truck, Slash and Big Wreck, and performed on the 2020 ShipRocked Cruise with Beartooth, Halestorm, and Alter Bridge to name a few. One moment they’ll serve up an earthquake barrage of distortion, only to incite a bold stadium-size singalong in the next breath.

Metalcore quartet Avralize release new single 'Higher'

German metalcore quartet Avralize have dropped a new single titled 'Higher', their second release through Arising Empire, following recent track 'Lotus'.

'Higher' reimagines the love narrative, guiding listeners beyond everyday experiences to delve into intense emotional bonds and connections, moving from the tangible to a deeply significant realm.

Valentin (bass) comments: "'Higher' embodies the very essence of Avralize - burning for what you love, sacrificing everything, and pushing the limits further into the unknown. Chased by self-doubt and anxiety, it’s about using this energy as fuel to push forward. With this track, we’re excited to show our clear vision and remind ourselves that in the pursuit of greatness, we must be willing to give everything away."

Having shared the stage with scene heavyweights like Ghostkid, Novelists, Paleface and Of Virtue, the group quickly established a reputation for their energetic live show that turns their crowds into a giant party on a regular basis. Despite their relatively short time as a band since their formation, Avralize have already performed at established festivals like Southside, Hurricane and RockXplosion.

The Wind Covenant release new single 'Beyond The Mortal Sight'

The Wind Covenant return with new single 'Beyond The Mortal Sight'. It's the second track to be taken from forthcoming EP, Hiraeth, which drops on 8th March via Seek and Strike.

Pre-save Hiraeth EP here: https://orcd.co/hiraethep

The Wind Covenant said of the new single: “Our new track, 'Beyond The Mortal Sight' explores the legacy we leave behind after our departure. As we navigate life, our decisions often aim to make a lasting impact through our achievements, yet we may overlook the consequences these choices have on our personal connections with our loved ones. When we’re no longer here, what remains and how we are remembered are primarily the good and bad actions we've committed towards those closest to us. The writing process began with the instrumentals, and the vocals and lyrics were subsequently crafted to complement them. A few iterations were made to ensure the seamless cohesion of the music and vocals. Due to the intensity of the message and the emotional lyrics, we believe that this song stands out as one of the most defining tracks on the EP.

"Our main goal is to guide listeners through an emotive journey, inviting them to appreciate not only the genre essentials (impactful breakdowns and riffs), but also the deeply personal lyrics, unique sound elements, melodic intricacies and a solemn mood that transcends genres. If you’re looking for a band that brings a different flavour to the scene, we encourage you to give us a listen."
