Shrapnel unleashes powerful anthem 'Guardian' as a preview of upcoming album

Renowned UK metal titans, Shrapnel, have unleashed their latest single, 'Guardian,' as a preview of their highly anticipated album, In Gravity. Scheduled for release through Candlelight Records on the 31st May, this upcoming album promises to be a monumental addition to their discography.

Hailed by the band as their fiercest offering yet, the latest single 'Guardian' plunges into the profound depths of human strength amidst life's most formidable trials. Positioned as a pivotal track on the forthcoming album In Gravity, 'Guardian' encapsulates a visceral fusion of tension and resolute determination. This contemporary metal masterpiece stands as a poignant tribute to individuals confronting adversity head-on.

The band comment on the new single: "EXTREMITY / ANGER / SOUL SEARCHING - this was the formula for the most aggressive song Shrapnel have ever delivered.

"Born from tragedy, 'Guardian' seeks to understand how we cope with the hardest circumstances life throws at us. A centrepiece of the new album In Gravity, 'Guardian' evokes a sense of anxiety and determination with gritty, pounding verses giving in to a massive and explosive chorus vocal hook. This is a modern metal song for those affected by tragedy.

"The last few years have been really tough for all members of
Shrapnel with divorce, loss of loved ones and complete life upheaval. The whole album has become based around the idea of coping strategies, self reflection and dealing with anger, frustration and sorrow. 'Guardian' is one of the most direct examples of this and hopefully it speaks to people with as much gravitas as it has had on us through the writing and recording process."

The latest release, In Gravity, signifies a profound rebirth and heralds a fresh era for Shrapnel. Drawing from their rich tapestry of experience and diverse influences, the album showcases the band's peak in songwriting excellence. From intricate and intense compositions to Gojira-inspired powerful heaviness, and a newfound touch of contemporary melodic sophistication, Shrapnel skillfully navigates through uncharted musical territories, pushing boundaries and defying traditional genres.

Guitarist Chris Martin comments: "We've channelled every bit of suffering, devastation, and emotion that we've experienced in recent years. We've never been so confident about our own material."

Under the expert guidance of acclaimed Swedish producer Jens Bogren (known for his work with Sepultura, Opeth, Amon Amarth, Ihsahn), and with notable contributions from Scott Kennedy (Bleed From Within) and contemporary shred virtuoso Bradley Hall, In Gravity showcases Shrapnel's liberation from constraints that have hindered others, boldly asserting their rightful place on the British metal scene.

Continuing, Chris adds, "As an album, In Gravity really has a focus on how we all deal with problems of varying extremities. We wanted to take a look at how some of the solutions to our problems become problems in of themselves, be that addiction or anything else.

"It's an album about how difficult it can be to face those problems many of us share. It was written during tragedy, and we're rolling it out during some difficult times for us. While we don't have the answers, we also realise that the ways we deal with issues is to create art, which in itself is a healer. We've really been holding the mirror up and exercising some demons on this one. It's led to the best album we've ever written, and something we hope will connect other people far more deeply than anything we've released previously."

Established in 2009, Shrapnel has relentlessly pursued a path of musical devastation. Having shared stages with iconic bands like Exodus, Sepultura, Death Angel, Suicidal Tendencies, Wolf, and Gama Bomb, and gracing the Bloodstock Festival stage three times, the band's reputation precedes them. Their upcoming performance at the Barbeuk Metal Festival in France further solidifies their place in the metal scene. From the incendiary underground EP No Saviours to the critically acclaimed 2020 album Palace For The Insane, Shrapnel's evolution has been nothing short of meteoric, with a relentless drive that shows no signs of waning.

The Oklahoma Kid release video for new single 'Overpowered'

Modern metal quintet The Oklahoma Kid have released a video for their brand new single 'Overpowered', out now via Arising Empire. Known for their very own blend of genres, the avant-garde five-piece never fall shy of pushing the boundaries and breaking old conventions.

Check out the video for 'Overpowered' here: https://youtu.be/asDHqPhgcrc

Stream 'Overpowered' from midnight here: https://arisingempire.com/overpowered

'Overpowered' has a compelling narrative of resistance and the struggle for autonomy against oppressive forces, blending heavy guitar riffs with introspective lyrics. It delves into the protagonist's fight for liberation, touching on themes of torment, vengeance, and the complex quest for personal peace amidst societal constraints. This track marks a significant evolution for The Oklahoma Kid, showcasing their commitment to exploring deep, thought-provoking themes through a fusion of aggressive music and reflective storytelling.

The Oklahoma Kid deliver breathtaking modern metal that bridges the gap between technical intricacy and energising rhythms. Since forming in 2012 the band - consisting of David J. Burtscher, Fred Stölzel, Robert Elfenbein, Tomm Brümmer and Andreas Reinhard - have consistently pushed boundaries and have established their foundation in the German metal scene.

After their successful debut album Solarray (2019) and struck by the global pandemic, The Oklahoma Kid set their focus on writing new music with one simple goal in mind, to better themselves and give every fan something to crave for - their 2022 album Tangerine Tragic.

Tangerine Tragic is built on the strengths of their debut Solarray. It plays with new ideas and concepts, comes gentle as a breeze and strikes hard as a wrecking ball. The album was recorded and produced by Jan Kerscher (Ghost City Recordings) and mixed and mastered by Lance Prenc (Alpha Wolf, Polaris, Dealer), which gives the production its full-blown punch.

The Oklahoma Kid toured the country with renowned acts such as Stick To Your Guns, Carnifex, Evergreen Terrace and Hatebreed, electrifying crowds with their passionate, relentless performance.

The Oklahoma Kid are no longer an insider tip and a force to be reckoned with. Whether you experience them live at a festival or on record in your living room, The Oklahoma Kid will change your perception of what metal is capable of.

The Oklahoma Kid are:
Tomm Brümmer | Vocals
Fred Stölzel | Guitar

Rising Insane announce new album and stream single / video

Photo Credit: Jana Kuhs x Coregraphy

Rising Insane are back with their fourth studio album Wildfires, out 23rd August via Long Branch Records. The album takes an in-depth look at the consequences of our collective abstinence from empathy and challenges listeners to ignite their inner flame for change. It is an urgent call to break out of the darkness.

The band have also released their new single 'Malicious' alongside a brand new visualizer, the second track released off Wildfires following the single 'Reign'.

Watch the visualiser to 'Malicious' here: https://youtu.be/FWb2cyUisLw

Stream the single and pre-order 'Wildfires' here: https://risinginsane.lnk.to/wildfires

"'Malicious' is actually quite an old song, probably even the oldest of Wildfires," comments singer Aaron Steineker. "I remember that we wrote the first version of 'Malicious' at the same time as 'Chemicals'. But there was absolutely no comparison between that song and the finished product. We first had to understand what exactly we wanted and how we could achieve it. In this process we had many lows, and ironically that's the main aspect of the lyrics: You're not satisfied with anything, nothing is good enough, you are not good enough. Everything you start is doomed to fail. Only after I added these lyrics to the song did it become 'Malicious' - without the many lows, the song would never have existed."

While Rising Insane remain true to their post-hardcore and metalcore roots on Wildfires, the band have evolved both collectively and individually, which is clearly reflected in the new and fresh sound.

Rising Insane singer Aaron Steineker comments on Wildfires: "Over the last two years, I have felt that there is a huge source of strife lurking around every corner. All we have to do is pick up our cell phone and we're immediately thrown into a hate-filled sea of conflict, there's so much hate everywhere. You get the feeling that the world around us is on fire when you add war, global warming, inflation and depression to the mix. That's how this album got the title Wildfires. Each song on the album is about a specific trouble spot, themes and stories that have weighed on me while writing. Our goal is to create awareness through our music of how much we burden ourselves and each other instead of focusing on things that connect us and create positivity."

Rising Insane are:

Aaron Steineker - Vocals
Ulf Hedenkamp - Bass
Sven Polizuk - Guitar
Florian Köchy - Guitar
Robert Kühling - Drums

Wildfires tracklist:

1 Reign
2 Monster
3 Lighthouse
4 Malicious
5 Bet On Me

Post-metal quartet El Moono release video for new single 'The Waking Sun'

Post-metal Brightonian quartet El Moono have released a video for their new single 'The Waking Sun'. The single, which features guest vocals from Leah Stanhope of Congratulations, is the title track from their forthcoming debut album, due for release on 10th May via Lockjaw Records.

Check out the video for 'The Waking Sun' here: https://youtu.be/sX4q1RoSzWA

Pre-order The Waking Sun here: https://elmoono.lnk.to/thewakingsun

The band comment: "'The Waking Sun' is the title track from the album - and it’s an ironic title. The song is a day-to-day analysis of depression, which lingers throughout every ‘waking’ moment of the day. This has been a general theme in our writing since our last record, Temple Corrupted, and we felt that the title track summarises the album as a whole. It was a pleasure to invite Leah Stanhope from Congratulations to feature on this track - her vocals add so much emotion to the song - it’s possibly the only song we’ve written in a major key. "

The Waking Sun was recorded at Middle Farm Studios with Sam Conevey, and have meticulously carved a fully immersive experience for listeners to explore. El Moono will be unveiling the album at a special session at Dolby Screening Room, London, 8th May, where the album's 360-degree spatial Dolby Atmos mix will deliver depth, clarity, and sonic details unheard of elsewhere. The band will also be giving a Q&A - and tickets will be offered to the first 50 album pre-orders. An additional session will be held on 17th May in Brighton.

RSVP on a limited first come, first serve basis: https://elmoono.lnk.to/thewakingsun

El Moono recently announced a headline tour in support of The Waking Sun.

Dates as follows:

May 31: Brighton, Hope & Ruin
Jun 01: London, Paper Dress Vintage
Jun 02: EBGBS, Liverpool
Jun 03: Legends, Edinburgh
Jun 05: Bristol, Crofters
Jun 06: Birmingham, Subside
Jun 07: Cheltenham, Frog & Fiddle
Jun 08: Exeter, The Cavern

Tickets are on sale here: bnds.us/3gxjch

The Waking Sun marks an exciting turn for El Moono toward the darker and more abrasive - a more mature release from a band already marked for greatness.

The long-awaited debut album follows El Moono's highly-regarded 2022 Temple Corrupted EP (released via Lockjaw Records). Previous tours alongside Black Peaks, Haggard Cat, St Pierre Snake Invasion, and Press to MECO elevated El Moono within the new British underground, and the EP release garnered notable praise from Metal Hammer, Kerrang! and Guitar World. With influences of rock, hardcore, metal and grunge, the band's off-kilter and oftentimes mind-bending riffs, emotive songs and expressive lyricism combine to create a sound that’s difficult to pigeonhole.

LostAlone announce Shapes Of Screams 10th anniversary vinyl reissue

Hyper-melodic, epic rock trio LostAlone are celebrating the 10th anniversary of Shapes Of Screams, with a special, limited vinyl reissue. The album was originally released on 7th April 2014.

Due for release on 28th June, the Shapes Of Screams reissue is repressed on 180g heavyweight Black Ice Transparent vinyl, limited to just 250 copies. Bundles with new merch and signed art prints are also available.

Frontman Steven Battelle comments:

"We made Shapes Of Screams under a cloud. We were falling apart, but somehow it became a unifying album that healed us. I was obsessed with the Les Miserables musical and wanted to make a heavy rock record with the choral elements of musical theatre. Some of the biggest, fan-favourite LostAlone songs are on this record and I’m very proud of it."

LostAlone surprised fans with their return in 2022, eight years since they originally split, swiftly followed by shows with My Chemical Romance and a sold-out hometown headline show. The trio concluded 2022 with a full UK headline tour, following the release of their long-awaited album The Warring Twenties.

The Warring Twenties was LostAlone's first full-length since 2014's Shapes of Screams. The album was written and produced by frontman Steven Battelle, with a variety of friends called upon to mix the songs: Greg Wells (The Greatest Showman, Deftones, Twenty One Pilots), Rou Reynolds (Enter Shikari), Adam Noble (Biffy Clyro, Placebo, Liam Gallagher) and Rich Collins.

Outside of LostAlone, Battelle has become a prolific songwriter for other artists, co-writing seven of the songs on McFly's new album Power To Play (#2 in Official Albums Chart Top 40). Following the successful collaboration, McFly invited LostAlone to tour with them last year.

2023 also saw the trio release three standalone singles, 'The Final Call For Forever', 'Waiting For The Magic To Show Up' and 'I'm A Fire That You Can't Put Out'.

LostAlone show no signs of slowing in 2024, with the release of their latest single 'All At Once' and a recent UK headline tour.

Stay tuned for more from LostAlone.

Grungy rockers Marisa And The Moths release new single 'Just Like Me'

Grungy rockers Marisa And The Moths have released their new single 'Just Like Me', ahead of their second album What Doesn't Kill You, released 3rd May.

Stream: https://ffm.to/matm-justlikeme

The new track is an introspective journey into the intricate parallels within ourselves and society, enveloped in a compelling alternative rock soundscape reminiscent of Deftones and underscored by vocal prowess echoing the vulnerability and power of Jeff Buckley.

Speaking about the single, Marisa shares, “For me, this song is like a Christopher Nolan film playing in the shadows of my mind. It feels familiar yet infinite, like a stormy fractal landscape where patterns repeat endlessly. Like some kind of beautiful nightmare. It embodies a multitude of emotions and viewpoints of the human condition and our self-destructive nature, yet, whilst the general meaning is something that I feel is relatable, it’s definitely still open to interpretation.”

Penned during the Covid lockdowns whilst Marisa was personally healing from an abusive relationship, 'Just Like Me' offers a narrative of inner turmoil, delving into the depths of insecurity and anxiety when viewed from an individual perspective. However, when viewed through the broader lens of humanity, it emerges as a poignant reflection of our collective struggles. Marisa's lyrics serve as a reminder of our innate capacity for self-destruction, urging us to confront our flaws and strive towards a better future for all.

Burn Down Eden release new single / video inspired by the passing of Trevor Strnad

Burn Down Eden return with an uncompromising thrash assault in the form of a new EP, Dismal, which is released today via Seek and Strike. The band have also released new single / video 'The War Within'.

Watch the video for 'The War Within' here: https://youtu.be/KfWNA1mSQ_M

This song is the perfect representation of this EP’s overall sound and vibe, which is loaded with highly energetic thrash metal excellence. Burn Down Eden are ushering in a new era of German thrash with their unique, bombastic brand of metallic ferocity.

Burn Down Eden state: “Our new single, 'The War Within,' is about depression and suicide. The lyrics were inspired by the very tragic and shocking death of Trevor Strnad (The Black Dahlia Murder) back in 2022. I never experienced Trevor looking depressed when I saw them live, so him committing suicide was quite a shock to me and I realized how hard it can be to see how a human being really feels inside. I was diving deeper into this topic and watched one of his last interviews with Metal Injection before his death. There he openly discussed how he felt inside, so a lot of those described feelings you can find within this song.

"The riffs and melodies had a similar feel to our previous release
Sermonize, just more coherent and taken to the next level. We ultimately decided to break this full-length album into two EPs. The first EP, Dismal, features the more darker and intense songs, as opposed to the next EP, Epiphany, which has more of the grandiose and upbeat tracks. In the end, you’re going to have one mighty, full-length album, Dismal Epiphany.

"If you’re listening to them back to back, it feels like one thrilling rollercoaster ride. It’s a cauldron full of technical riffs, neoclassical shredding, exotic scales, clever harmonies, groovy headbangers and lethal high-speed blasts. That’s what
Burn Down Eden is all about!”

"For previous releases,
Pether (vocals) wrote lyrics just when inspiration hit him, yet this time it was different. With all the songs written at once by William and Tom (guitars) in their big summer session, there was a pile of eight empty lyric sheets to fill by Pether for Dismal and its upcoming follow up. The clock was ticking very loud, as the studio was booked and the production schedule was tight. Therefore, he started to map out every song in their parts and planned empty arrangement templates. Next step was to brainstorm the themes and allocate them to the songs. From there the songs almost wrote themselves. On Dismal, you'll find three tales of megalomania and grandeur, one dealing with a musical serial killer and a power ballad about mental health or the lack of it."

Future Palace release video for brand new single 'Uncontrolled'

German trio Future Palace have released a video for their brand new single 'Uncontrolled', out now via Arising Empire. The track is the band's first new music in almost a year.

Check out the video for 'Uncontrolled' here: https://youtu.be/3zAJ3LxMvqs

Stream 'Uncontrolled' here: https://arisingempire.com/uncontrolled

Our entire existence demands control – it seems all the more shocking when the feeling of self-control suddenly seems to disappear. In their new single, Future Palace set exactly this almost unbearable state of a slipping self to music and rely on some of the most powerful sonic contrasts that they have ever unleashed in their entire discography.

"'Uncontrolled' was created in 2022 and was written almost at the same time as the song 'Malphas', which not only has a similarly heavy musical tone as the new single, but also lyrically speaks of a struggle with oneself." The words with which singer Maria Lessing describes the experiences that gave rise to 'Uncontrolled' also sound correspondingly agitated. “The loss of control in the title primarily relates to one’s own mental health and one’s own decision-making ability”, she says. “You can no longer manage to get up in the morning and have to constantly regain your strength. You can no longer manage to meet deadlines or function at all. 'Uncontrolled' represents what it feels like when everything falls apart and seems hopeless.”

'Uncontrolled' is driven by remarkably riff-focused instrumentals that would do even Slipknot credit. In their most epoch-making moments, the band glides into arrangements with immensely great vocal gestures, only to plunge into perhaps the dirtiest screams that singer Maria Lessing has ever uttered in the very next moment. The band is continuing a development that already began on their second album Run and with their last single 'Malphas'. Musically, Future Palace have now come shockingly close to the unpredictability and brutality of the dramatic themes that have always occupied them.

Last fall, the band played in several cities across Europe on their biggest headline tour to date, many of the shows were sold out. The music video for the new song, which was shot in Riga, Latvia, was again shot by Pavel Trebukhin, with whom the band has been working for a long time and who has already produced clips for big names such as Landmvrks, Imminence and Trivium.
