UK metal quartet HERIOT unveil new single 'Siege Lord'

The UK's most exciting new heavy band, HERIOT, have unveiled their mighty new single 'Siege Lord', streaming everywhere now via Century Media

Recorded with Josh Middleton (Sylosis, Architects) and GRAMMY Award-winning Will Putney (END, Fit For An Autopsy, Better Lovers), you can stream 'Siege Lord' here: https://heriot.lnk.to/SiegeLord-Single
Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/771l_1Tpzkk

The band comment: "'Siege Lord’ is a track we feel expands on our previous releases, leaning heavily into the more metallic elements of our sound. It’s a visceral yet atmospheric track. Lyrically, ‘Siege Lord’ contemplates thefragility of soul searching."

HERIOT's first single of 2024 continues their ascendancy as the pre-eminent new force in the UK heavy scene. 'Siege Lord' follows late 2023's 'Soul Chasm', the two glimpses of new material following their signing with Century Media, support shows with Architects in the Summer and their ferocious 'Demure' single (14th February, Church Road Records).

HERIOT's debut EP Profound Morality (2022) catapulted the quartet into the global spotlight, with praise worldwide and a debut, sold-out, headline tour across the UK. The band have since supported Lamb Of God, Thy Art Is MurderRolo Tomassi, and performed to packed tents at Download Festival, 2000trees, Wacken Open Air, Bloodstock, Mystic Festival and many more, gathering a legion of fans in the process.

Fully-focused and with a razor-sharp edge, the awe-inspiring double-vocal attack of Jake Packer and Debbie Gough is all-conquering; the titanic support of Erhan Alman (guitar) and Julian Gage (drums) rock-solid.

HERIOT have deservedly been grabbing attention with all four pairs of hands, weaponising metallic sludge and hardcore, unholy levels of distortion, speed and gut-punching talent. Elements of NailsKnocked LooseCode Orange, and Vein.fm combine and collide to exhilarating effect, creating a sound that is truly groundbreaking, fully worthy of the notice the band are achieving.

In their short recent history HERIOT have caught the attention of Pitchfork, The Guardian Metal Hammer, Rock Sound, Brooklyn Vegan, Kerrang!, Revolver, and Knotfest, among many others, heralding the quartet as "one of the most promising young bands in modern metalcore", and "probably the best new metal band in Britain".

New band Dormant release debut single 'Essence'

Introducing Dormant, a brand new experimental metal unit who today drop their debut single 'Essence'.

A crushing new release, heralding the dawn of something special, 'Essence' can be heard here: https://youtu.be/iZFD-Vr3Sxk

The band comment: "'Essence; is about how some people can change for the worse. After trying to be there for someone and realizing you can’t help, it’s about reminding yourself that you don’t always have to stick around, sometimes you just have to put yourself first. Leave the negative essence of them in the past, use the energy you put into the resentment to improve yourself and others around you."

Breaking genre boundaries and crossing EDM, cinematic scoring and heavy metal, Dormant are made up of members from Blood Youth, Red Method, Profiler, Sunfall, and Creak. Their combination of monumental guitars, technical rhythms, and catchy choruses paired perfectly with ripping synthesis, and tension-building cinematic scoring will leave listeners gasping for more - along with a burning passion to experience this new energy live.

Escuela Grind release new single/video 'Always Watching You'

USA extreme metal powerhouse, Escuela Grind, have today unveiled their new single/video 'Always Watching You'.

Watch the video, directed by Zack Perez for Astral Media, here: https://youtu.be/G2G3WRNG4B4
Stream here: https://escuelagrind.ffm.to/awy

Recorded at Salem, Massachusetts' GodCity studio with producer Kurt Ballou (High on Fire, Cave In), 'Always Watching You' is taken from Escuela Grind's as-yet-untitled new LP, set for an autumn release via MNRK Heavy

“Most of 'Always Watching You' was written in a practice space by Jesse and Krissy, and refined during soundchecks we had over the year," offers Escuela Grind vocalist Katerina Economou. "I've had this desire to write a song where I could portray the obsessive-stalker-girl archetype through lyrics for a while. Although not physically threatening, it's really interesting that society is so terrified of this stereotype. In 'Always Watching You', I wanted this fantastical, Nightmare on Elm Street-style imagery that was rooted in the gore and horror of death metal. Themes of parasocial relationships, anxieties from social media, and an omnipresent algorithm are strongly observed in this song and throughout the entire album."

In sync with the release of 'Always Watching You' and as part of their seemingly unending live gauntlet, Escuela Grind will launch European tour dates with Finnish grindcore band, Rotten Sound, on 3rd May. The 'Europe & UK Domination' tour will launch in Berlin, Germany and run through to 18th May in Ypres, Belgium.

UK dates as follows:

May 10: London, Incineration Festival, Black Heart
May 11: Manchester, 0161 Festival
May 12: Plymouth, The Junction
May 13: Newcastle, The Head of Steam
May 14: Nottingham, Ye Old Salutation Inn
May 15: Glasgow, Audio
May 16: Birmingham, The Devil's Dog

Tickets from: https://www.escuela-grind.com/shows

"EUROPE! We're coming back to crush a bunch of shows with our homies in Rotten Sound, plus a few SICK festivals like Incineration, Music Match, 0161 Festival and Vort 'N Vis Festival," says Escuela Grind. "We're stoked to bring the Nike and New Balance-shod feet of Escuela Grind back to Europe to grind posers into jelly and go crazy with friends old and new. Plus we'll have new music out and we'll be playing even more songs from our NEW ALBUM! Come on out to these shows, grind your face off, two-step, stage dive, meet your new bestie, make an arch nemesis, get spin-kicked in the face by a 17-year-old drinking Radler, buy some merch. It's gonna rule! See you there!"

The news follows Escuela Grind's huge new EP, DDEEAATTHHMMEETTAALL, released January via MNRK Heavy.

Recorded with Will Killingsworth, mixed by the GRAMMY-winning Kurt Ballou (High on Fire), and mastered by Nick Townsend (Cheap Trick, Dr. Dre), the EP houses four new songs including the lead cut, 'Ball and Chain'.

Order DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALL here: https://escuelagrind.ffm.to/ddmm

Escuela Grind's DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALL EP is the crown jewel in a themed trilogy of releases, including the duo of 2020 EPs PPOOWWEERRVVIIOOLLEENNCCEE and GGRRIINNDDCCOORREE, which saw the band espousing their unique takes on the respective underground music sub-genres. DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALL delivers the first new Escuela Grind music since the release of last year's celebrated full-length LP, Memory Theater, hailed by The New York Times as ''an opus of extremity", "witheringly intense yet righteously life-affirming" by SPIN, "the heaviest Escuela Grind have ever sounded" by Decibel, both "a masterclass in punishing, invigorating grindcore" and "a fascinatingly intellectual take on the genre" by Revolver, and "a multifaceted album that goes beyond 'fast and faster' simplicity" by Metal Hammer.

Unquestionably one of the hardest working bands in music today, Escuela Grind will follow the team-up with Rotten Sound with a seven-week summer tour of Europe that will launch on 21st June in Lubbock, DE. The tour will run from June through August and include a slew of high profile festival appearances.

Genre bending legends earthtone9 release new single 'Navison Record'

Iconic British metal band earthtone9 have unveiled their intense, thrash-infused new single, 'Navison Record'. The track is the second release from their highly anticipated album, In Resonance Nexus, scheduled to drop on 21st June through Candlelight.

Check out 'Navison Record' here: https://youtu.be/dfiyifsCFzU
Stream here: https://earthtone9.lnk.to/NavisonRecord

Pre-order In Resonance Nexus here: https://earthtone9.lnk.to/InResonanceNexus

Comments vocalist Karl Middleton on the new single, "'Navison Record' is an absolute rager. It's us really leaning into our thrash roots and going for it. The song is certainly different to et9's regular fare, but that's because we wanted to include some songs on this album that really gave our fans (and people who are new to earthtone9) some different looks. No point just retreading the past!! This tune is a real pit friendly monster, and we just cannot wait to play it live."

earthtone9 are rightly hailed by those who know as one of the most forward-thinking, clever, musically wise and creatively smart in the history of British metal. Emerging in the late ‘90s as nu-metal was beginning to surge, their more nuanced palette and intelligent approach saw them hailed as something special and excitingly against the grain from the very beginning. Making an album a year between 1998 and 2000 – beginning with their expertly crafted Lo-def(inition) Discord debut, and culminating in 2000’s staggering Arc’tan’gent – it was a workrate as intense as the music was uniformly brilliant.

After splitting in 2002 the band made a surprise return in 2013 with the crowdfunded album, IV. Following this they made only occasional appearances in the live arena (including at the ArcTanGent Festival, which purloined its name from their third album!), before once again seeming to disappear on hiatus.

Now, 11 years on from their last record, they present In Resonance Nexus, a thrilling work of brains and muscle that not only stokes a fire, but sees the band's core members – vocalist Karl Middleton and guitarists Owen Packard and Joe Roberts – rediscovering and reconnecting with what makes them so special. In Resonance Nexus is the heaviest, fiercest, most heightened record they have ever made; a startling combination of almost feral intensity and the latter-day songwriting chops they displayed on the IV album.

In Resonance Nexus, as a title, is saying that we’ve found the core and the essence of the band again,” says Karl. “We were digging deep to find common musical ground, and between Joe and Owen, and I, it really felt like that there was a resonance there. It feels like we've landed on a really legitimate, 21st century version of the band. We were asking, ‘Why are we doing this?’ and having a very authentic answer.”

Across the 10 featured tracks the band’s signature sound is present and correct but now expanded with touches of everything from doom, to black metal, to shoegaze and deathcore.

Gathering together almost 40 songs before carefully choosing what should make the album, In Resonance Nexus is a record that’s been slowly and patiently crafted and carved out by artists prepared to throw away anything that didn’t quite have the desired effect. The results – with drum duties taken on in the studio by Bullet For My Valentine’s Jason Bowld – are a collection where every dynamic, moment of heaviness, thoughtful passage and element of aggression is perfectly placed.

The album was produced by British production master Lewis Johns at The Ranch in Southampton, a collaboration that brought the band’s vision further to life.

“Lewis is unbelievable, super creative, super enthusiastic,” says Karl. “We were attracted to the stuff he’s done with bands like Employed To Serve, Svalbard and Rolo Tomassi. He has a style, but you can also tell in everything he does that he enhances the vision of the band, rather than just imposing his thing. He was incredible in bringing the intensity and drive back into earthtone9.”

Completing the creative team is Colin Marks of Rain Song Design who created the stunning album art that runs throughout the release.

More than anything, In Resonance Nexus represents the idea that some things are just too good and too special to lie perpetually dormant. With something as pure as earthtone9, that desire to create never truly leaves you. Eventually, even after a decade or more, it wants to come out again.

“For me, this album is about persistence in heart and knowing that you can pursue stuff and do it to a high standard at any point in time,” says Karl. “It’s more vital and urgent - like the absolute distillation of what we do. This feels like a definitive statement.”

Don’t call it a comeback – In Resonance Nexus is simply the next chapter in earthtone9’s story. One that’s worth the decade wait.

Lizzy Farrall releases new single 'MadHotel'

The inspiringly unique Lizzy Farrall is back with her shapeshifting new single 'MadHotel'.

Enter the 'MadHotel' here: https://youtu.be/is7tIC9ScV4
Stream 'MadHotel' here: https://linktr.ee/lizzyfarrall

Of 'MadHotel', Lizzy comments: "'MadHotel' welcomes you to a new world of self-destruction and coping mechanisms. It's haunted with the feeling of not understanding your own behaviors & searching for a vice.

"The idea and concept for MadHotel sparked in 2020/2021 along with my upcoming releases. I'd actually written and then rewritten MadHotel quite a few times until it took its final form in 2022. I guess I'd describe it as my pilot & foundation for my new sound. I've been performing MadHotel on tours and festivals before I even knew when I would release it or if I even was going to! It's so different sonically to what I’d written & it became quite precious to me, but playing this song live made me feel more at home on a stage than I’ve ever felt, it gave me the push and confirmation that this new sound feels very much my own."

A dynamic force in the UK music scene since 2018, Lizzy emerged from the verdant landscapes of North Wales to craft a sound that defies convention. Now Birmingham-based, Lizzy's musical journey began in her homeschooling days, where her creativity found fertile ground to flourish.

Having traversed the UK, Europe, and the United States, Lizzy's stage presence is as eclectic as her sound. Her debut album, Bruise released in 2020, marked a significant milestone in her career, capturing the attention of audiences worldwide.

Sharing stages with luminaries such as Lights, Set It Off, The Story So Far, and Four Year Strong, Lizzy's performances leave an indelible mark, whether in intimate venues or at major UK festivals like Slam Dunk and 2000 Trees.

Entering 2024, Lizzy's evolution as an artist and individual is palpable. Drawing inspiration from as varied artists as Deftones, The Prodigy, and Gwen Stefani, Lizzy's new music seamlessly melds alt-pop, metal, and electronic dance elements. Breakbeats and breakdowns punctuate her compositions, showcasing her versatility and penchant for pushing boundaries.

Beyond her captivating vocals lies Lizzy's prowess as a producer, intricately weaving together sonic tapestries that captivate and challenge listeners. Her distinctive sound is a breath of fresh air in a landscape often marred by predictability.

In 2024, Lizzy Farrall stands poised to redefine expectations once again, as she unveils her latest sonic odyssey. With each note, she invites audiences into a world where genre barriers dissolve, leaving only the raw emotion and unadulterated passion that define her artistry.

NESTOR comment on 'Caroline': “’Caroline’ is about time and motion wrapped up in a story of young hearts. The video takes place on an old train from mid 50’s which symbolizes the inner journey of a young weary soul. “

With glossy production, NESTOR take you straight back to the golden age of rock music - openly displaying their influences ranging from Bon Jovi and Journey to Aerosmith. The new anthem, 'Caroline' convinces with a catchy melody and passionate vocals, while guitarist Jonny Wemmenstedt demonstrates his insane skills once again as he tops the song with a stunning solo proving that NESTOR have never been on fire like that before.

As one of the hottest newcomers of modern rock music, NESTOR turn back time by gathering millions of streams on Spotify and hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube. They’ve shared stages with the almighty Alice Cooper, greats like Def Leppard and Europe, and were even supporting the legendary KISS in Stockholm on their 2022 stadium tour. Their new album, Teenage Rebel, is a rebellious and energetic onslaught that convinces with enormous hit density while invoking the spirit of youth. Get ready to crank up the volume.

Having formed in 1989 only to fall into hibernation over three long decades, NESTOR emerged stronger than ever in 2021 with their debut album, Kids in a Ghost Town, marking the band's triumphant return to the spotlight and captivating fans with their timeless sound and unmatched energy.

The new album, Teenage Rebel, sets off with a captivating intro-monologue spoken by Danish voice actress Freya Miller, creating a retro, rebellious atmosphere that sets the mood for the album and prepares the stage for the opening track 'We Come Alive' - a true blast of an opener. Rhythmic guitars create an exciting backdrop for the gripping vocals of frontman Tobias Gustavsson, leading towards an incredible guitar solo by guitar hero Jonny Wemmenstedt. The album's title track, 'Teenage Rebel', convinces with tight riffing and an anthem-like chorus honoring the tradition of 80s hard rock. '21' is a wild ride celebrating the ease of youth. NESTOR on their new masterpiece: “The album Teenage Rebel takes place in the glory days when we were young, confident and the future was filled with endless possibilities but also how we reflect on these days today. In many ways it’s the sequel to Kids in a Ghost Town and we can’t wait for you to hear it.”

Extreme metal sci-fi outfit Wallowing drop latest single 'Restless Dusk I: The Anamnesis Hymn'

photo sighting by a photographer who prefers to remain anonymous

Following a triumphant album launch and a year filled with relentless touring, the enigmatic UK underground group, Wallowing, have made a striking comeback with their latest single, 'Restless Dusk I: The Anamnesis Hymn.' This new release serves as a seamless aural extension of the band's captivating comic book series of the same title and is now available through Church Road Records (UK), Deathwish Inc (EU & USA), and Sludgelord Records (UK).

Additionally, the band have unveiled a captivating music video for the song, meticulously crafted by Oli Melville (Aerosol JesusTorpor), using a plethora of live footage amassed during their extensive touring over the past year or two. The video showcases highlights from their performances at ArcTanGent Festival, their 2023 UK tour alongside Frozen Soul, and a particularly memorable show at the Bristol branch of Waterstones book stores. Notably, the band even equipped one of their vocalists with a body cam at select shows, adding an exciting perspective to the footage that made the final edit.

Watch 'Restless Dusk I: The Anamnesis Hymn' here: https://youtu.be/VCh0Bfy3aQ8
Order and stream the new single here: https://bfan.link/restless-dusk-i-the-anamnesis-hymn

The band comment: 'The Anamnesis Hymn' is a track with heavy focus on trauma and how it can engulf a person. We wanted to aurally represent the feeling someone may have when trying to come face to face with their own trauma, how overwhelming, chaotic and claustrophobic it can feel.

"We recorded and produced this track ourselves as a chance experiment with new sounds and ideas. We also purposely adopted a “less is more” approach with this one to embellish the themes of the track whilst pushing ourselves outside of our generally frenzied comfort zone.

"‘The Anamnesis Hymn’ is the first sonic chapter in an ongoing series of tracks we plan to release under the title of Restless Dusk. This is a direct continuation of our comic book series of the same name with cover artist Luke Oram.”

Accompanying the single release, the band have revealed the upcoming 5th anniversary re-issue of their 2019 album Planet Loss in a deluxe remastered edition, scheduled for launch on 23rd August.  Originally recorded, mixed, and produced by Wayne Adams at Bear Bites Horse in London, UK, the album has undergone remastering for this special re-issue by Scot Moriarty in New Jersey, USA. Fans can now pre-order the re-issue on gatefold vinyl in various striking colour variants through Wallowing (neon violet & neon yellow/neon violet splatter), Church Road Records (UK, neon violet), Deathwish Inc (USA & EU, neon violet), Sludgelord Records (UK, neon yellow/neon violet splatter).  Additionally, pre-orders are open for CD or vinyl/comic book bundles directly through Wallowing

Commenting on the reissue: "Planet Loss was the start of a very important journey for us as a band, so to be able to celebrate five years of its existence in such a way is really awesome for us. We were blown away by the support for record upon it's official release in 2019 and since releasing Earth Reaper in 2023, the increase of interest in our music and it's concept, it made sense for us to revisit the album with Scot Moriarty, the mastering engineer behind our last album for this special anniversary pressing. Scot (Sunrot, THIN, Organ Donor and many more) has not only embellished the abrasive sound of the original release but also brought the album into the sonic realm of its sequel. This new anniversary variant also sees the inclusion of a new track as well as a rework of the original artwork expanded into a glorious gatefold piece to match the format of 2023's Earth Reaper."

In celebration of the remastered release, the band is thrilled to unveil the second instalment of their ongoing Restless Dusk comic book series. This collaborative project with artist Luke Oram delves deeper into the narrative of Planet Loss, the band's inaugural concept album and graphic novel. Continuing from where Issue #1 left off, the second issue delves into the aftermath of the cataclysmic battle depicted in the original book/album. This latest release marks the fourth comic book collaboration between Wallowing and Oram, offering fans the option to purchase it individually or as part of a bundle with the anniversary album remaster of Planet Loss. The remastered album includes a new track that follows the storyline of the latest comic issue, enriching the interconnected narratives of both the comic and the album. This exclusive release will be available via the Wallowing Bandcamp page, while supplies last.

Comment the band: “We are real excited to see the second issue in the Restless Dusk comic series see the light of day. It's always a very exciting time when we get to work with artist, Luke Oram, on stuff like this as seeing our music transformed into a visual medium never gets old for one, but it also adds a new layer of depth to our music - we are able to hone in on story beats and details in a way that we can't musically, which overall embellishes and cements the stories we tell within our concept albums."

Catch Wallowing live on the following dates:

May 8: UK Glasgow - Hug & Pint
May 9: UK Manchester - AATMA
May 10: UK Milton Keynes - Craufurd Arms

Following the release of the monumental concept album Earth Reaper in 2023, which seamlessly continues the narrative from their previous masterpiece Planet Loss, the band has received accolades from esteemed publications such as Kerrang! and Metal Hammer.

Throughout their career, Wallowing has graced the stages of renowned festivals like Arctangent, Desertfest, and Dreadfest, sharing the spotlight with notable acts such as Black Tongue, Wiegedood, Frozen Soul, and Conan. Notably, Wallowing made history as the first metal group to perform at a Waterstone's bookstore.

Doomgaze quartet Sugar Horse reveal new single 'The Shape of ASMR To Come'

UK quartet Sugar Horse have unveiled their powerful new single 'The Shape Of ASMR To Come', taken from their new album Grand Scheme Of Things, to be released 4th October via Pelagic Records.

Vocalist / guitarist Ashley Tubb commented on the single: "After my dad’s passing, in the time before his funeral, I learned a tonne about his life that I previously hadn’t a clue about. He’s been through a fair bit in his life and this song is kind of about that. It’s a kind of “through adversity, there is redemption” type song. No pain, no gain etc."

'The Shape Of ASMR To Come' is the second single taken from the upcoming new album, following the release of 'New Dead Elvis' last month.

On Grand Scheme Of Things, Sugar Horse comment: "This album was intended to be a sideways step. A move away from the kind of thing that is expected of us… if anything is at all. What I mean by that, is the songs are more direct. They take a much shorter amount of time to “get to the point”. We also wanted to make this one noticeably “less Metal”. While we love being a bit boneheaded and confrontational, we definitely wanted to explore the more melodic, song-based side of the band’s sound. Normally you’d see shortened song structures and more singing and think “Oh these guys are going for gold….they wanna get on the radio and make millions of bloodstained pounds.” Well…you’re very much entitled to think that if you wish, but it felt like more of a songwriting challenge than anything else to be honest. We’ve done the whole drawn out, endless Space Rock thing a good few times now and it would’ve been easy to rest on those laurels. Do something we’re comfortable with. Alas, that is not really the point of this band. We’d much prefer to make it difficult and take the long route."

The new album follows Sugar Horse's titanic split 7'' with new labelmates LLNN, and previous EP Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico. An epic and ambitious achievement, Truth... is, in signature Sugar Horse style, one single long song: a meditation and exploration of everything the note A has to offer.

Sugar Horse have recently toured with LLNN, and previously with post-rock luminaries 65daysofstatic across Europe, as well as dates with Pianos Become The Teeth, Liturgy, Chat Pile and an appearance at ArcTanGent festival.

A lot of people take the name Sugar Horse to be a drug reference - perhaps fitting for a band that sound like the last moments of a three-day binge. Darting wildly between dark/light, pain/bliss, sacred/profane, Sugar Horse are unpredictable and unrestrained.

Formed in what is now considered to be the utopian dreamscape of 2015, the band grew slowly at first. Far from fully formed, but steadily gaining limbs, heads and vital organs. Finally, 2019’s DRUJ followed swiftly by 2020’s DRUGS saw them hit on a relentless stride of eclectic releases that simultaneously confused and entranced audiences.

2021 saw the band encamp in a former Lutheran church to record their debut album, The Live Long After, releasing it via Brighton’s own Small Pond Records. Publications such as The Quietus describing the record as “shift[ing] dispositions fluidly, taking elements of extreme aggression alongside floaty Post-Metal” and Echoes & Dust calling it “a monumental achievement”. The album took every disparate element that Sugar Horse previously employed and amplified them, while juxtaposing each next to each other, with genuinely unpredictable and exciting consequences.

2022 saw no relent from the band’s fast paced release schedule, as they put out an anthemic shoegaze single in 'Pictures Of Dogs Having Sex', followed swiftly by their collaborative Waterloo Teeth EP. A release that paired Sugar Horse’s terrifying eclecticism with guest appearances from twelve other artists in just four short(ish) songs. Each artist coming from a different area of the modern British music scene, whether that be world conquering post-punk bass lines from IDLESAdam Devonshire, heavy titans Conjurer and Pupil Slicer’s throat crippling wails, or a shredding guitar solo from Biffy Clyro/Oceansize axe wielder Mike Vennart. The EP packs in an album’s worth of genre mutilating twists and turns into just 25 minutes of music.
