Progressive deathcore outfit Within The Ruins will release their highly-anticipated seventh album, Phenomena II on 23rd August, through MNRK Heavy. The band have released their first mind-blowing single/video, 'Castle In The Sky', featuring ominous orchestration, Steve Tinnon’s powerful growls and a relentless onslaught of guitars that hit like a battering ram. With gunshots, sirens, and a haunting choir adding to the intensity, this track is an auditory explosion not to be missed. Get ready for a musical experience that will leave you breathless.

Comments guitarist Joe Cocchi, “It has everything people want to hear from us out of the gate. There’s some old-school Within The Ruins in there. Lyrically, it’s based on The Punisher. He’s a war veteran who has his family taken away from him. The central struggle is, ‘Would he rather be alive or reunite with his family in the castle in the sky?’”

New album, Phenomena II, serves as the sequel to the band’s critically adored Phenomena full-length, which was released a decade earlier and has over 18 million streams to date.

Evolution drives longevity. Within The Ruins relentlessly pushes forward, incinerating complacency and innovating out of its ashes. The Western Massachusetts quartet — Joe Cocchi (guitar), Kevin McGuill (drums), Paolo Galang (bass, clean vocals), and Steve Tinnon (lead vocals) — razes convention with a sonic sensory onslaught anchored by polyrhythmic bludgeoning, head-nodding grooves, viscerally evocative vocals, and vivid storytelling. Their controlled chaos has resulted in tens of millions of streams (a rarity for acts this uncompromisingly heavy), packed houses on tour, and widespread acclaim courtesy of Alternative Press, American Songwriter, Loudwire, Metal Injection, Phoenix New Times, and many more.

Now, they continue to evolve on their seventh full-length offering, Phenomena II. “When you listen to us, we hope you feel like you found some fresh metal,” notes Cocchi. “After doing anything for a long time, it’s easy to get stuck in your ways. So, we always try to present something you haven’t heard before—and you aren’t going to get anywhere else.”

That’s what the band has done since their formation in 2003…

As the story goes, Cocchi and McGuill first linked up back in high school. They slogged it out locally for a long time, solidifying the initial core lineup of Within The Ruins with previous vocalist Tim Goergen. Building a devout fan base one gig and project at a time, they served up Creature (2009), Invade (2010), and Elite (2013), paving the way for the fan favourite, Phenomena (2014). Drawing its primary subject matter from Marvel and DC characters, the latter yielded two of their most popular anthems 'Gods Amongst Men' and 'Enigma,' which reeled in 4.7 million Spotify streams and 3.5 million Spotify streams, respectively. Following Halfway Human (2017), the musicians welcomed Steve Tinnon to the fold and ignited Black Heart during 2020. Highlighted by 'Deliverance,' 'Devil In Me,' and 'Black Heart,' the latter incited critical applause. American Songwriter praised how “Within The Ruins takes deathcore to a new level with Black Heart.”

Tinnon’s addition had injected fresh fire into the band as they continued to write and record. In the meantime, Cocchi opened up his own brewery Tin Bridge Brewing where he and McGuill both work. Tin Bridge Brewing also serves as the band’s homebase, including their studio on site. With the decade anniversary of Phenomena looming, the musicians made a conscious decision to leap forward by looking back. The band wrote and recorded in their hub of Westfield, Massachusetts with Cocchi at the helm as producer once again.

We had written a handful of songs, and we were searching for inspiration,” recalls Cocchi. “We wanted to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Phenomena, because it was a pinnacle point of our career. I wrote a demo that reminded Steve of Phenomena. So, it was his idea to create Phenomena II. The styles really aligned in terms of the unique guitar effects and the themes where each track tells a story from a comic book character’s point-of-view.”

ALT BLK ERA announce debut album Rave Immortal and stream new single / video 'My Drummer's Girlfriend'

Rave Immortal out 10th January 2025 via Earache Records

Genre defying sisters ALT BLK ERA have announced their highly anticipated debut album, Rave Immortal, set for release on 10th January via Earache Records. The duo - Nyrobi and Chaya - have also unveiled the first single taken from the record, ‘My Drummer’s Girlfriend’, a high energy indie rock-fuelled electronic rager, that perfectly sets the tone for the ride ahead.

Watch the video to ‘My Drummer’s Girlfriend' here: https://youtu.be/c-wRK4Nq73g

Pre-order Rave Immortal here: earache.com/altblkera

A story about challenges in friendship groups, Nyrobi and Chaya comment on the new single: "'My Drummer's Girlfriend' is a song about new friendships and the problems a shift in dynamics can cause. I’m sure anyone listening to it will be able to think of that ONE person that they just don’t get on with, within a group setting."

Within just a year ALT BLK ERA have established themselves as one of the most unique and exciting new alternative acts today, winning over audiences at major festivals including Glastonbury and Reading & Leeds, and opening for artists such as Tom Morello, Lord Of The Lost and many more. Their highly acclaimed debut EP Freak Show accelerated their meteoric rise, earning them nominations in both the 2024 MOBO and Heavy Music Awards. The album announcement comes after their triumphant set at Download Festival, where Metal Hammer magazine described them as one the bands that defined this year’s event.

As two alternative people who understand living life outside of the edge of social norms, ALT BLK ERA have created a wonderful safe space and a community for alts and their allies. This ethos has earned them a loyal and diverse following, who see no barriers and boundaries musically and socially.

This safe space has allowed the girls to open up even more on Rave Immortal, which among its themes around diversity and inclusion, centres around Nyrobi coming to terms with a disabling illness, and the support she received from Chaya. From pain and struggle to newfound strength and unconditional love, this is a story that will resonate with anyone who has faced barriers, and is an inspiration overcome them and to be yourself no matter what.

On Rave Immortal, Nyrobi comments: "You might not notice on a first listen that this album is about my hidden disability that is a result of chronic illness that took hold during my teens and left me bed-ridden for years. I take the listener through the shadows and share the pain of abandonment I felt, and the solace that I found in my younger sister's unwavering support.

"This part of the album is so painful for me and at the same time it feels beautiful because it shows my sister by my side, every step of the way; through each emotion and every story. I wouldn’t have been brave enough to share this part of me without
Chaya and the track 'Come On Outside' is a beautiful reflection of her.

"But we don’t stop there! The album then captures the defiant energy that grew within us, as I became more able. The songs show us crashing through the imposed barriers and boldly claiming spaces that we were once excluded from. As the songs transition into a dreamscape, they delve into the exploration of relationships; the clash of personalities when fitting into a new friendship group and the dangerous mind of an infatuated person who is scarred by illness and years of isolation.

The rebellion then builds as we begin to host wild celebrations, fiercely defending our joy after so many years of imposed restriction. The final tracks turn the tide, transforming our pursuit of freedom into an exhilarating hunt, where those who once stifled our spirit are drawn into our eternal dance of liberation, freeing them from all worldly constraints."

Chaya continues: "This album starts as a deeply personal story of the physical and emotional pain that my sister went through when she first became ill. I was about twelve at that time. It was during the pandemic so it was a time of worry and isolation for me also but as Nyrobi slowly became more able to communicate, we spent every minute that she was awake together. I would sit in her room and contribute to her creations whilst she wrote song after song after song. From my more introverted perspective, the calmer songs reflect my nature, so 'Straight To Heart', 'Come On Outside' and 'Run Rabbit'. However,  I’ll ride-or-die for my big sis, so when it’s time to be defiant or to be rebellious, or when it’s time to scream, I’m right there too. This is what the album is about for me - our bond, that also respects who we are as individuals."

Anyone who has loved rock music over the last decade or so will be familiar with David Jakes and Jack Wrench. Jakes was the broodingly intense singer with Lonely The Brave; a complex character blessed with a once-in-a-generation voice. And Wrench was the explosive drummer with Arcane Roots, a man equally at home with math-rock complexity and sheer rock power. These two exceptional talents have been united in Interlaker, who might just be the sensational rock band you’ve been waiting for since they walked away from their former projects.

Jakes and Wrench – who only knew each other vaguely from their previous bands – brokered their new partnership on Instagram; exchanging casual messages, discovering a mutual love of REM and Pearl Jam, before progressing to swapping demos and song ideas, eventually writing and recording their brilliant debut album entirely online.

Jack Wrench commented: “We both approached recording the album with a zero-pressure attitude. We were both just up for writing music again.”

That method allowed Jakes, who holed up in his parents’ house over the summer to record his parts solo, to “put everything on the line” in his performances, recording as and when the mood struck, in his constant quest for vocal perfection.

Dave Jakes commented: “I tend to over-analyse everything, but it seemed to work out alright. I’m a bit fixated on my vocals.”

“Dave’s voice and songwriting craft will always retain an identity, so we can push the music in any direction,” continues Wrench. “The biggest kick I got out of the recording process was presenting Dave with a musical backdrop where I was like, ‘I have no idea where he will go with this’. I’ve never heard Dave singing that blend before.”

Jakes’ occasionally impenetrable, yet always expressive lyrics are also at their very best, covering what he describes as “everything in life: stuff about my daughter and family, drinking too much, mental health".

The sense of the unpredictable that courses through Interlaker’s album has also extended to an unlikely return to the live arena. The band – augmented by live members including Wrench’s brother – made a triumphant live debut at London’s Omeara last year, and have more shows scheduled throughout 2024, including a slot at 2000trees festival.
.
Rest assured, Interlaker are a tale of the unexpected that everyone is going to love.

zebrahead have built a global community of friends and fans that are there for each other, and this song taps into that support with the lyrics: "These are the nights we will remember, with the friends we can’t, friends we can’t forget”.

Bassist Ben Osmundson comments on the new single:

"Super excited for the world to hear ‘I Have Mixed Drinks About Feelings.’ It’s been a rough few years and it’s now time to cut loose and hopefully have some fun. A song about remembering that as bad as life may feel at any moment in time, we are not alone; there are plenty of people out there feeling that same pain.”

Drummer Ed Udhus adds: “After hearing this song you’ll be shaken, not stirred.”

Battlesnake had already set tongues ablaze in the Australian scene - a seven-piece vortex emerging from the depths of the underworld. With a powerful sound that can best be described as the genetically-engineered cyborg super-child of Queen, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and Judas Priest, the band have quickly gained a reputation for their high-impact live performance and epic, theatrical songwriting. Their reputation has now spread overseas, playing to packed venues across the UK and beyond, and rave reviews from Classic Rock, Metal Hammer, Total Guitar, and many more.

Battlesnake released their debut EP in 2020, a powerful 6-track release entitled Myths and Legends from Gorbag's Domain. For principal songwriter and frontman Neige, ALCEST has always been a gateway to the otherworldly, a means of exploring his spirituality. An elemental two-piece, completed by long-serving drummer and creative confidante Winterhalter, ALCEST seem to dip their toes in a multitude of musical genres without ever quite fitting in. “In the metal scene ALCEST is a weird band, in the indie/post-rock scene ALCEST is a weird band - we never quite fit in,” Neige reflects. “This is how I feel in life, always an outsider; It’s not a problem, it’s just the way it is.”

Wake Up The Wicked – the highly anticipated successor to the extremely successful previous studio album, Call Of The Wild (2021) – will be released just in time for the award-winning band’s first ever full North American tour, starting in August 2024, followed by their biggest European headline tour to date, the Wolfsnächte 2024. Wake Up The Wicked is once again produced by the outstanding Joost van den Broek at Sandlane Recording Facilities and marks a new benchmark and undisputed career highlight for the band. The new album is hard, surprising and full of variety. While staying true to their established, loved sound, POWERWOLF go one step further and showcase a different facet of their deft musical and technical skills. This is evident, for example, on the outstanding single '1589', which is based on a true story from the 16th Century.

20 years after their formation in 2004, POWERWOLF are expanding their repertoire with the highest quality and adding many future live hits to their extraordinary discography. Wake Up The Wicked is yet another statement cementing the status of the band as a leading force in the world of heavy metal.
