Modern rock powerhouse Pop Evil have shared their cinematic music video for their recently released track 'What Remains', via MNRK Heavy. In the video, viewers will plunge into the dark, fragmented landscape of singer Leigh Kakaty's psyche, unraveling the thin line between self-identity and survival.

"The truest version of yourself comes from reaching within the darkest corners that you've kept hidden from the world," explains Kakaty. "It's in those shadows that you'll uncover the reasons for your transformation. I have evolved into something new. I am not who I used to be. I am what remains."

It's the dawn of a new era for Pop Evil, which the band promises will be its most sonically heavy. The track, with its thunderous riffs and rhythmic thrust, fulfills that promise. 

Pop Evil first rose to international prominence with debut album Lipstick on the Mirror, featuring RIAA Certified Gold Single '100 in a 55'. After Kakaty famously tore up the band's major label contract onstage, Pop Evil signed with MNRK Heavy (formerly eOne Music). 2011's War of Angels debuted in the Top 10 of the Rock Albums chart and produced three Top 10 singles.

The band's 2013 album Onyx put them in the Top 40 of the Billboard 200 for the first time and boasted three consecutive No.1 rock songs, two RIAA Gold Singles, and one Platinum Single 'Torn to Pieces'. Pop Evil's next release, Up, was the No.1 Independent Album in America and made it to #25 on the Billboard 200. It featured several Top 5 rock songs and a chart-topper with 'Footsteps,' which also went Gold. 
 
Pop Evil's 2018 self-titled set included the No.1 hit and newly certified Gold single 'Waking Lions' and two other Top 10 hits. 2020's Versatile, meanwhile, scored two No.1 rock songs: 'Breathe Again' and 'Survivor'. In 2023, the band released its seventh studio album Skeletons, which spawned their eighth and ninth No.1 singles: 'Eye of the Storm' and 'Skeletons'.

After the release of their fourth full-length record Nuklearth in 2020, the nuclear quintet Cytotoxin strikes back with their first standalone single 'Hope Terminator'. The band continue their blast of a musical and lyrical concept, tackling the catastrophic incident at the Chernobyl power plant in 1986.

With blazing, precise, and ionizing fast instrumental work paired with a groove that packs a punch, 'Hope Terminator' narrates the dramatic tale of Pripyat’s evacuation. After the reactor exploded, the city’s residents were exposed to abnormal levels of radioactive radiation for 36 hours before authorities finally decided to evacuate within just four hours. Since then, Pripyat has remained a ghost town, a chilling reminder of the past.

On the night of April 26, 1986, an explosion at the Chernobyl power plant changed the course of the world.

Inspired by this catastrophe, the German death metal band Cytotoxin emerged in 2010, bringing a new level of intensity to the genre. By fusing technical and brutal riffs while thematizing the devastating effects of the reactor disaster, they quickly drew attention in the scene. Their debut album, Plutonium Heaven (2011), was a self-produced powerhouse, followed by their second record, Radiophobia (2012), which secured them a three-album deal with American label Unique Leader Records.

Cytotoxin quickly gained a reputation for their explosive live performances and razor-sharp precision on their instruments. Their third album, Gammageddon (2017), solidified their place in the tech death community, while their fourth album, Nuklearth (2020), showcased their versatility and songwriting capabilities. Following numerous European tours and major festival shows, Cytotoxin are set to make their U.S. and Canadian debut in November 2024 with their new single 'Hope Terminator' in hand.

Matthew Sutton (vocals / bass) explains: “With a post-punk ethos in mind we wanted this song to feel like every pay off was another massive climb. The chorus is almost an anti chorus, it's angular and grinding. 

"This song is a nauseating comparison to having an out of body experience watching yourself on a never ending loop, feeling hopeless and sick. So self-deprecating and always pushing that self-destruct button.”

‘In This Trend’ is the second video in a trilogy leading the visual narrative throughout the music directed by Leif Johnson, a member of London based video collective NEWD.

Sutton adds, “The artwork and music videos leaned into telling a story based on my own fathers conflicts with love. My dad being a family man, married with kids and then realising he was gay, coming out, navigating those tribulations and transforming his life and finding love and acceptance again. The 3 acts of the story were broken into each individual video. The Conflict, The Transformation & The Acceptance / Celebration.  

"In This Trend - 'The Transformation' - Act 2 is a literal and philosophical transformation. Understanding the conflicts in his life and love, my dad made tough decisions to drastically change aspects of it. Being honest and true to himself as well as others carried so much weight and I’m sure it was painful for everyone involved. These necessary steps, although damaging to a life he had, were addressing those conflicts going forward and I think it’s a massive inspiration of just being honest, looking in that mirror and seeing what’s staring back at you.”

‘In This Trend’ showcases the dynamic partnership between Tayne and longtime collaborator Wayne Adams, known for his work with Green Lung and Pet Brick. This track is just one of many exciting collaborations Tayne has embarked on, joining forces with a diverse array of artists including Jesu, Cage Fight, Mastiff, Katie Kim & Poisonous Birds. Additionally, Tayne has shared the stage with influential acts such as HEALTH, Author & Punisher, and Greg Puciato of The Dillinger Escape Plan, further solidifying their presence in the music scene.

Guitarist Dan Palmer adds: “We worked on this song for weeks, writing and rewriting until it was so catchy that we couldn’t get the chorus out of heads! It was frustrating but damn we’re happy with the catchy results! We hope you are too!”

Refusing to slow down, zebrahead has been playing shows across the globe in between studio sessions. The quintet will release a new song every five weeks, culminating in the release of their I EP on 13th November, the follow-up to the III & II EPs, which were released in 2021 and 2023.

On the I EP expect more of what zebrahead do best, no-holds-barred, fast-paced, heavy-hitting genre-disrupting punk. Since their inception, zebrahead have sold over 2.5 million albums to date, earned a Grammy nomination, and currently has over 650,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.

Bassist Ben Osmundson shares: “Finally, the last EP of the III.II.I. EP series is here. Excited for everyone to be able to listen to them all in a row and realise where our heads have been since Covid and during Covid. Been a trying time for everyone and now it is time for fresh starts. We hope you enjoy them as much as we have making them. See you on tour.”

Introducing OVERSIZE - the newest addition to the SharpTone Records roster - who today release their incredible new single 'Fall Apart'.

OVERSIZE have already turned the heads of many tastemakers in the UK scene, with rave reviews and rapt attention from Dan P Carter, Alyx Holcombe, and Jack Saunders at BBC R1. In their short time as a band OVERSIZE have already performed at Outbreak Festival, and supported Militarie Gun, Higher Power, Fiddlehead, Boston Manor, and many more.  

Although still very much in their infancy, the group - who formed in the South West of England - have already developed a fully-formed, personal sound. Elements of post-hardcore, alternative metal, shoegaze and emo combine to deliriously heady effect. While the band don’t shy away from their love of alternative 90’s music, and a love of HUM, Smashing Pumpkins, Deftones, and Pixies, OVERSIZE have very little interest in being sonically tied to the past. 

The bandmembers' shared experience of writing and playing live together has found them carving out their own space within the alternative scene, in just a handful of years. Exploring the vast range of dynamics within their music, songs drift between atmospheric textures to loud fuzzy riffs, magnifying and complimenting the personal and often venerable vocals.

On 'Fall Apart', vocalist Sam McCauley comments: "'Fall Apart' lyrically shifts around the themes of grief and heartbreak. Reflecting on a moment of disconnect. How you can feel numb and soulless whilst still yearning for a connection, for love. The basic want of someone to hold you and tell you it’ll be just fine, while simultaneously isolating yourself from the world."

Marjana Semkina has unveiled a video for her single 'Anything But Sleep' featuring Jim Grey of Caligula's Horse, taken from her stunning new solo LP, Sirin, out now.

Marjana comments on working with Jim Grey: "I'm so thrilled with this collaboration - Jim has one of the most beautiful voices and hearing him on my song and singing with him was such a special experience."

On the single and video, she continues: "The song in my true fashion is about a dead girl haunting her abusive former lover and gradually driving him insane (something I definitely will do when I die) and the music video was produced in collaboration with the wonderful Cinebuds in The Netherlands over a very stormy summer weekend. Jim's footage was kindly provided by the old friend Adrian Goleby. 

"Overall I think it's my favourite music video i've ever done and what a joy it is to be able to work with so many incredibly talented people."

Marjana Semkina has also announced a one off show, performing songs from Sirin and more. This will be held at St Matthias Church, Stoke Newington, on 1st November 2024. The evening will be headlined by her band Iamthemorning, and her bandmate Gleb Kolyadin will also perform a set of his solo work.

Marjana's live band features Liam McLaughlin on guitar and bass, Lulu de la Rosa on keys and Evan Carson on drums and percussion.

Sirin is a journey of dark stories and fairy tales, told with Marjana’s uniquely captivating voice, on a foundation of detailed musical arrangements. However there is a prevailing darkness and grief, inspired by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, with the first single about by the protests.

On the album Sirin, she continues: "Sirin is a mythical creature from ancient Slavic mythology, half-bird half-woman, she's a harbinger of bad luck and death, and it's believed that if you meet Sirin a big catastrophe will happen - except in case with the events surrounding this album it's already happened. Sirin cries and mourns for humankind, and nothing can be more appropriate in this day and age. Sirin is one of very few creatures that can travel between worlds - a world of gods of light, a world of dark deities (in some versions an alternative to the underworld) and a world of mortals. This felt appropriate because the album is quite diverse in sound and some might think parts of it sound happy, but the subject matter is almost always quite morbid, which creates a contrast that I enjoy.

"I was never very political and I always tried to keep my art within the realms of lore, literature and imagination. But when events like the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine happen, it is impossible - and I'd even say, unforgivable - to stay silent and do nothing. Thankfully being based in the UK I feel rather safe speaking out against the current regime and I do have a platform that I can use to try and show the world that Russians disagree with the actions of the Russian government, and there are so many of us that only wish for this to be over. I'm just trying to show it in the most artistic way I can muster."

Now permanently based in the UK, Marjana has been an active campaigner against the Russian occupation in Ukraine and has raised thousands of pounds via her activities to support the victims of war. She will continue her work, including selling a number of a limited run of handwritten lyrics from Sirin, with the money going to Ukrainian charities. Acts punishable by 15 years imprisonment should she return home.
 
Marjana is joined by an array of world class musicians (detailed below), which includes two very special guest vocal performances from Jim Grey (Caligula’s Horse) and Mick Moss (Antimatter).

Known for her work as the vocalist of prog duo Iamthemorning, self-exiled Russian Marjana has forged a successful solo career with two critically acclaimed solo releases: her 2020 debut solo album Sleepwalking, and 2021 follow-up EP Disillusioned.
 
Marjana has previously collaborated with many incredible artists, including The Flower Kings, Jordan Rudess, Blackbriar, as well as Anna Murphy with their Maer project. Combined with her work in Iamthemorning, her experiences have enabled her to become one of the most unique and exciting solo artists in the progressive world today.
