Wildernesses release poignant new single/video 'Summertime, 1917'

London-based alt-rock band Wildernesses have unveiled their latest single, ‘Summertime, 1917’, ahead of their debut album Growth, out 27th March via Floodlit Recordings.

The new single explores love and loss, telling the story of two male soldiers in World War One, seen through the eyes of a modern narrator who discovers their love letters while renovating a deceased loved ones house.

The accompanying video is quintessential Wildernesses DIY, directed and filmed by vocalist Phillip Morris and guitarist Sam Howe. Phillip explains: "I filmed around my home town over six months, often jumping out of the car when the light was right or fog drifted across a field. Filming over time allowed contrasts between spring and winter, light and dark, linking to the lyric: ‘The back end of May, blossom was falling and you slipped from the present tense’.”

Sam contributed drone footage from Sussex during walks with his dogs, Mikey and Spud, adding a triumphant lift to the final chorus.

Vocalist Phillip Morris comments on the new single: "I based the lyrics on a poem I wrote the year after my mum died of Motor Neurone Disease (MND). I wanted to explore the conflicting feelings I had at that time, the process of acceptance, finding reasons that everything would be OK, even as death is final. Caring for her was a privilege that allowed me to know her more deeply but I also witnessed the cruel loss of movement that ended in her death.

"I never renovated her house but the imagery of reworking a space appealed to me. The song's lyrics aimed to reflect on social issues in a literary way, rather than an overtly political way. We all know war is bad; my aim was to zoom in on two singular stories across time and make the listener feel them, rather than just consider a message.

"At the time of writing it I was working as a social worker at a hospice in Hull and wanted to capture the joy and pain of speaking with elderly patients. Ageism often goes unspoken and older generations have lived experiences that younger people can only imagine. I wanted to highlight the privilege of uncovering hidden stories that are real and untold.

"Musically,
Wildernesses aim to bridge post-rock and pop structures. The second half of the track evolves into a repeated motif that serves as the narrator’s self-reflective mantra and hook, opening up as he finishes reading the letters and processes his emotions.”

'Summertime, 1917' is the fourth single to be taken from the band’s forthcoming debut album, Growth. Previous singles 'Four Hour Drive', 'English Darkness' and 'Maintenance' have drawn widespread critical acclaim for their cinematic scope and understated intensity, establishing Wildernesses’ defining balance of haze and melody. 'Four Hour Drive' offered a tender reflection on family, lineage and inherited memory, inspired by a 1957 photograph of Morris’s father and grandfather, while 'English Darkness' confronted mental health with brooding urgency, its stark visuals filmed on Hull’s Sunk Island flats under the direction of Stewart Baxter, know for his previous work with bands such as IDLES. 'Maintenenace' explored the quiet, obsessive routines that structure daily life, blending introspective lyricism with swelling, atmospheric instrumentation. With ‘Summertime, 1917’, Wildernesses continue to expand their folk tales, marrying historical reflection with intensely personal storytelling.

Emerging as modern day narrators cloaked in atmospheric alt-rock, Wildernesses conjure emotive landscapes that feel at once expansive and deeply human. Their music occupies liminal territory, between memory and imagination, heaviness and tenderness, despair and quiet hope, offering cinematic soundscapes that linger long after the final notes fade.

Formed almost by accident and featuring members of bands such as Late Night Fiction, Earth Moves and We Never Learned To Live, Wildernesses bring together Phillip Morris (vocals, guitar), Ryan Browne (drums), Mark Portnoi (bass) and Sam Howe (guitar), each carrying their own “wilderness” of lived experience, Hull and Humber riverside grit, East London streets, West Sussex roots, woven into a singular sonic and narrative tapestry. At the heart of the band, Morris’s lyrics act as modern folk tales, shaped by his work as a mental health professional, shaped by loss and survival and the understated strength found in ordinary lives.

With a sound that draws from the wide-eyed ambience of Explosions in the Sky, the fragile intensity of Bon Iver, the brooding restraint of The National, the dreamlike haze of Slowdive and the narrative urgency of La Dispute. Their name reflects the terrains they explore, interior wildernesses of memory, grief and reflection, wild, unkempt, sometimes bleak yet undeniably beautiful.

Growth spans nine tracks, seven lyrical, two instrumental, each a chapter in a story cycle that charts the human experience: insomnia, solitary escapism, forbidden desire, family heritage and hidden histories unearthed from the past. Recorded at No Studio in Manchester with producer Joe Clayton (Conjurer, Mastiff, Bossk), the album balances sweeping, cinematic textures with meticulously crafted, intimate detail. From shimmering post-rock crescendos to hushed, reflective passages, Growth captures the layered complexity and haunting nuance that defines Wildernesses’ sound.

Commenting on the album, Phillip adds: "Growth is the result of over two years of writing, refining and learning together as a band. The title reflects both life’s way of shaping us and our own journey as a group, with a playful nod to my obsession with houseplants, the cover photo of them in my bath tied the themes of growth, texture and everyday life together. We’d never met before this project and now we’re close friends, having navigated highs, lows and the intense process of making a record that truly captures what we intended. Recorded with Joe Clayton at NO Studio in Manchester, the sessions were incredible; his calm, thoughtful approach helped shape the album’s sound and feel. Thematically, Growth aims to be real and emotive, joyful and morose all at once. It’s a huge milestone for us, and we can’t wait for people to hear it, feel the vinyl in their hands and connect with the stories in the tracks."

In a world that moves relentlessly forward, Wildernesses invite listeners to pause, breathe and step into the slow orbit of memory, into modern folk tales told through guitars, voices and textures that are at once personal and universal and where loss, tenderness, and quiet endurance coexist in equal measure.

To mark the release of Growth, Wildernesses will carry these songs from the studio into live rooms across the country, touring throughout March. Each performance offers a shared moment as the album’s quiet pull and gradual release are brought to life in real time. Live dates are listed below.

Celebrated New York punks I Am The Avalanche announce first album in six years and unveil new single

Their first full-length offering in six years - along with being the band’s most expansive and textural album to date - THE HORROR SHOW is a collection of songs forged in grief, courage, and the refusal to stand still. Written largely in the wake of frontman Vinnie Caruana’s profound personal loss, the album explores friendship, mortality, love, and resilience with a deeper emotional weight than ever before, all while embracing total creative freedom.

Leading the set is the album’s title track, an intensely intimate song that details the act of grieving and an altered worldview as a result of a dear friend’s passing. “Immeasurable loss is something all of us will endure, if we haven’t already,” Caruana said. “Like when a grenade explodes in a war movie, all you hear is the ringing in your ears and see the world in front of you with a different tint.”

I Am The Avalanche have been confirmed for 2000trees festival 2026.

22 years into their career, I Am The Avalanche are making the most powerful music of their lives with THE HORROR SHOW, the band’s fifth full-length album. The heart of The Horror Show beats in the wake of unimaginable loss. "Experiencing ultimate loss will change you on a cellular level,” says frontman Vinnie Caruana. “About 75% of the lyrics were written after my best friend passed away suddenly and unexpectedly.”

Rebuilding from that devastation brought a new perspective. “You find courage you didn’t know you had,” he reflects. “Courage … that was his last gift to me.”

While the record confronts grief, it is not defined by it. Across 11 tracks, I Am The Avalanche explore various personal themes with the same urgency that has fuelled them since day one, but this time drawn from a deeper emotional well than ever before. It’s reflected in Caruana’s lyric writing but embraced by the whole band. “We go to a lot of new places, musically,” Caruana explains. “There are no rules or constraints. Complete freedom to create and push our music forward.”

That sense of freedom is everywhere — on the driving title track “THE HORROR SHOW,” the raw defiance of 'LAUGHING AND BLEEDING,' the fragility of '5:55,' the life-affirming radiance of 'I’M NOT DEAD…,' the punishing force of 'TRUE LEGENDS NEVER DIE,' and the shimmery glow of 'ALIVE ON 14th STREET.' It’s an album made with the visceral understanding that life can change in an instant and nothing should be left unsaid.

Out of that tribute comes a duality: The Horror Show holds grief and celebration side by side. In that, Caruana hopes this album can become a guide for anyone experiencing loss. “This record can become a lifelong companion for those who let it in,” he says. “The message is simple: You are stronger than you think you are and you are not alone.”

The Horror Show will be carried across the world as I Am The Avalanche join tours in support before heading out on their own. For fans, it’s a chance to see the band at the peak of their powers. For Caruana, it’s another step forward in the process of healing. “My only hope is that performing these songs on stage will repair the part of my soul that broke during the writing process. If that doesn’t happen, that’s okay. I achieved my mission and I’ll happily die tomorrow with a full and simultaneously broken heart,” he admits. After years of survival, I Am The Avalanche return with The Horror Show, aiming not just to endure but to thrive.

HERIOT comment: "‘Master of Deceit’ is centred around the idea of the human experience being diminished through pressures of conformity and fear. It touches on how individualism is being lessened as we’re being pushed to disregard our own experiences, emotions and beliefs. The song poses the question of ‘how far are we willing to go before there’s no turning back?’"

'Master of Deceit' was produced by Erik Bickerstaffe (Loathe) and mixed and mastered by Randy LeBoeuf (Kublai Khan, Loathe, Gideon, The Acacia Strain).

'Master of Deceit' follows HERIOT's November 2025 single 'Commander of Pain', their ode to 90's death metal. Watch here: https://youtu.be/xDem8csYsJM

Devoured by the Mouth of Hell was recorded and produced by HERIOT's Jake Packer with Josh Middleton (Sylosis, Architects) and mixed and mastered by GRAMMY Award-winning Will Putney (END, Fit For An Autopsy, Better Lovers), with additional engineering by Justin Hill (SikTh, Betraying the Martyrs).

NMEKerrang! and Upset magazine cover stars, Devoured by the Mouth of Hell was critically acclaimed worldwide as the breakthrough metal album of that year. Celebrating the release, HERIOT performed an intimate album release show in Bristol, which instantly sold out. Following the album release, HERIOT toured the UK and across Europe supporting Fit For An Autopsy and Sylosis, alongside Darkest Hour.

In April 2025 HERIOT celebrated Devoured by the Mouth of Hell with a UK headline tour across five sold-out dates, including a show at London's iconic The Underworld.

HERIOT's debut album continues their ascendancy as the pre-eminent new force in the UK heavy scene. The album follows 'Siege Lord' and late 2023's 'Soul Chasm', the first two glimpses of new material following their signing with Century Media and support shows with Architects in summer of 2023.

HERIOT's debut EP Profound Morality (2022, Church Road Records) catapulted the quartet into the global spotlight, with praise worldwide and a debut, sold-out, headline tour across the UK. The band have since supported Lamb Of God, Thy Art Is MurderRolo Tomassi, and performed to packed tents at Download Festival, 2000trees, Wacken Open Air, Bloodstock, Mystic Festival and many more, gathering a legion of fans in the process. They since followed Profound Morality with the ferocious standalone single 'Demure' (February 2023, Church Road Records).

Fully-focused and with a razor-sharp edge, the awe-inspiring double-vocal attack of Jake Packer and Debbie Gough is all-conquering; the titanic support of Erhan Alman (guitar) and Julian Gage (drums) rock-solid.

HERIOT have deservedly been grabbing attention with all four pairs of hands, weaponising metallic sludge and hardcore, unholy levels of distortion, speed and gut-punching talent. Elements of NailsKnocked LooseCode Orange, and Vein.fm combine and collide to exhilarating effect, creating a sound that is truly groundbreaking, fully worthy of the notice the band are achieving.

In their short recent history HERIOT have caught the attention of NMEPitchfork, The Guardian, Metal Hammer UK, Rock Sound, Brooklyn Vegan, Kerrang!, Revolver, and Knotfest, among many others, heralding the quartet as "one of the most promising young bands in modern metalcore", and "probably the best new metal band in Britain".

Jake Packer - Vocals/Bass
Debbie Gough - Vocals/Guitar
Erhan Alman - Guitar
Julian Gage - Drums

Vicious Rain unveil new single 'A Spotless Mind' from their upcoming album

Swiss metalcore powerhouse Vicious Rain aren’t slowing down — they’re sharpening the blade. With their brand new single 'A Spotless Mind', the band unveil another intense chapter of an album cycle that has already seen massive momentum.

Watch the visualizer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCyH_V_ftY0

Following the impact of 'IKIGAI,' 'Spitting Blood Again,' 'Silent Therapy,' and 'Trading Hearts,' Vicious Rain continue to prove that this era isn’t built on one strong track — it’s a statement of consistency and evolution.

'A Spotless Mind' dives deeper into the emotional weight that has defined this cycle so far, but it does so with a new level of urgency. Where previous singles balanced atmosphere and aggression, this one feels more immediate — sharp riffs, soaring tension, and a chorus that lingers long after the final breakdown fades. It’s heavy, but controlled. Emotional, but not fragile. The kind of track that doesn’t just hit — it stays.

All of this leads toward their upcoming full-length release, set to drop on 13th March. If the singles so far are any indication, Vicious Rain aren’t just releasing an album - they’re cementing their place as one of the most compelling forces in modern European metalcore.

'A Spotless Mind' is another reminder: this isn’t hype. It’s momentum.

VENUES release new single 'Hollow Walls'

After the massive impact of 'Duality' — a single that marked a defining moment in the band’s recent chapter — German metalcore force VENUES now unveil their next strike: 'Hollow Walls.'

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/hVpLNP5MA8c

This isn’t just another release. 'Hollow Walls' picks up where 'Duality' left off. Visually and emotionally. The new music video acts as a direct sequel, continuing the narrative thread and expanding the atmosphere into darker territory. What began as tension now escalates into confrontation. The cracks in the surface are no longer subtle - they’re breaking wide open.

Sonically, VENUES lean further into contrast: fragile moments collide with explosive weight, cinematic tension meets razor-sharp heaviness. 'Hollow Walls' feels urgent, restless, and uncomfortably honest - like standing in a room that’s slowly collapsing while you’re still inside it.

If 'Duality' was the warning shot, 'Hollow Walls' is the fallout.
This isn’t a reset.
It’s the next chapter.

Obey The Kraken announce new EP Apocrypha; release first single/video

Germany’s Obey The Kraken are back, dragging listeners into the void with their second EP, Apocrypha, out 10th April via Seek & Strike. What began as an unplanned follow up to 2025’s Worship The Sunken God has evolved into a dark, relentless descent into a world where angels fall and hell rises.

First single, 'Betrayer', tears open the gates of Obey The Kraken’s mythic world. It’s deathcore stripped to its rawest elements, riffs that hit like falling iron and production built around weight and impact rather than excess.

Watch the video for 'Betrayer' here: https://youtu.be/4ilUvV2eQVg

Pre-save Apocrypha here:  https://orcd.co/otk2026ep

Commenting on the single, Obey The Kraken said: "'Betrayer' marks the opening chapter of the biblical saga that unfolds throughout our EP. The video is fast paced to match the song’s energy and we made the deliberate decision not to visually portray the story itself, as translating it literally would have been difficult and limiting for us. Instead, we stripped it right back to focus on a classic performance video that emphasizes the intensity and drive of the track.”

Apocrypha tells a story in sound, an angel cast from heaven, forging an alliance with hell, returning to challenge the celestial order itself. Every song is a chapter, every breakdown a hammer blow. The EP moves like the story, deliberate and immersive, pulling listeners into Obey The Kraken’s realm where narrative and brutality are inseparable. Nothing is decorative. Nothing is wasted. Every note exists to damage and leave its mark.

The band’s conceptual ambition remains central. Whilst preserving the DNA of their debut, Obey The Kraken push further into uncharted territory.  With production carried out entirely in house, leaving the band with full control over how heavy, how clear and how oppressive they needed it to feel. The result is an EP that is heavy and unflinching, a complete assault for fans who crave deathcore that hits as hard thematically as it does musically.

Obey The Kraken add, "Apocrypha means a lot to us, especially as we hadn't planned this second EP.  After finishing our first EP (Worship The Sunken God) last year things developed naturally and we realized we had more to say within this world and sound. We consciously kept the formula of the first EP intact, so anyone who enjoyed EP1 will feel right at home with EP2. Listening back to the final masters, we’re genuinely happy with how consistent and powerful the release feels as a whole. Everything was designed to feel massive, heavy, and epic, supporting the narrative without overcomplicating the production approach.

"Lyrics play a central role for us. Our first EP told the complete story of Cthulhu and his resurrection across four songs and we wanted to apply that same conceptual approach again. On Apocrypha, the songs tell the story of an angel who is cast out of heaven, forms an alliance with hell and ultimately seeks to conquer heaven itself. Each track represents a different chapter of that narrative."

Orbit Culture release live video for fan favourite 'The Storm'

Beware of the antlers!

Ahead of their next quest - an extensive tour throughout USA and Canada with support coming from Ov Sulfur and Atlas - Orbit Culture have released a live video for the fan favourite 'The Storm'. The video was filmed by Riivata Visuals and Grimvisions during their highly successful European tour last winter.

Watch 'The Storm live' here: https://youtu.be/KQJY-8logFQ

The band comment: “This video for 'The Storm' documents our last headline tour. Most of the footage was shot in Gothenburg, close to where we come from. Watching it now brings us back to a night that carried real weight — intense, focused, and honest. It was a defining moment for us, and The Storm reflects that feeling without needing to explain it.”

It is another video for their acclaimed album Death Above Life that was released to overwhelmingly positive feedback by fans and media in October of last year.

"The album represents change, a new beginning," says guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Niklas Karlsson. "It brings up a lot of good and bad emotions but it’s a big change for the better. It feels like a rebirth."

This autumn Orbit Culture will join THE ALLFATHER AWAKENS TOUR across Europe, with Amon Amarth and Soilwork.

UK dates:
Fri 9th Oct - Manchester, O2 Apollo
Sat 10th Oct - London, Eventim Apollo
Sun 11th Oct - Wolverhampton, Civic Hall

Hailing from the small town of Eksjö, Sweden (located between the revered metal cities of Gothenburg and Stockholm), the quartet (guitarist and vocalist Niklas Karlsson, guitarist Richard Hansson, bassist Fredrik Lennartsson and drummer Christopher Wallerstedt) have grown into a global force, melding together riffs that are equal parts thrash, death metal and industrial with arresting hooks and a layered atmosphere that invites comparison to Gojira, Metallica and Static-X while carving out something that is uniquely their own.

Orbit Culture’s 2023 album Descent and their subsequent EP release The Forgotten topped many year-end lists in 2023, including Metal Hammer who described the album as: “a formidable entwining of modern metal’s most effective and exciting strands into an impressive milestone.” Exhaustive worldwide touring and a steady stream of crowd-pummeling festival slots across the globe, have set the stage for something much larger.

Orbit Culture are a band poised. They are the sound of metal in the most modern sense.

EVERGREY announce 15th studio album 'Architects Of A New Weave'

EVERGREY, Gothenburg’s masterminds of melancholia, offer up another outburst of beautiful darkness and turn their inner fire into something unstoppable: their intense fifteenth album, Architects Of A New Weave, will be released on 5th June via Napalm Records

Pre-order Architects Of A New Weave here: https://lnk.to/Evergrey-ArchitectsoftheNewWeave/napalmrecords

The album arrives just days before EVERGREY take the stage as special guest to the undisputed kings of heavy metal, Iron Maiden, for two shows on their Run For Your Lives World Tour.

Tom Englund about Architects Of A New Weave:
“We’ve literally never had this much trouble picking singles. And honestly? That’s the best problem we could possibly have. Every song on this record is fighting to be the one you hear first—because we poured everything into making an album we’re flat-out obsessed with. Like always there are no fillers, no compromises, just twelve tracks we’re stupidly proud of and will be for the rest of our lives. Pre-order the album now and join the weave!”

This is the wake-up call you didn’t know you needed: a plunge into thinning air, burning worlds, and lingering guilt—only to break free with fierce momentum. The album refuses to wallow. It ascends—fast, heavy, and cinematic. But it refuses to hide in the dark. It rises: quick, fierce, and utterly transformative.

Stay tuned for new music coming soon!

Dive into Architects Of A New Weave’s standout tracks like 'The World is on Fire', 'Leaving The Emptiness', 'Heaven', and 'The Prophecy', and the breathtaking title anthem 'Architects Of The New Weave'. Their choruses break through like sunlight piercing storm clouds: enormous, cinematic melodies that pull you upward, riffs with genuine weight and bite, and vocals dripping with raw, unflinching truth. In one breath, you’re shouldering buried longing; in the next, you’re weightless, fearless, endless. Scars transform into badges of survival, fractures fuel reinvention. In the second half of the album, fellow Gothenburg icon Mikael Stanne (Dark Tranquillity, The Halo Effect, Grand Cadaver, Cemetery Skyline) joins Tom S. Englund in vocal duties for 'A Burning Flame', the voices of the two scene legends intertwined compellingly.

Brooklyn noise punks Foreign Body release new single 'Strung Out' and sign with Brutal Panda Records

Brooklyn-based noise rock / punk outsiders FOREIGN BODY today release their new single 'Strung Out', newly signing with Brutal Panda Records.

“Harsh, brutal, filthy, and vulgar” and “so dirty, so clean, so disgusting, so pure” are just a couple of ways that the band has been described by those who’ve experienced their aural onslaught.

Listen to 'Strung Out' here: orcd.co/foreignbody-strungout.

The single arrives ahead of the band’s second album, set to release this year.

'Strung Out' was produced, mixed, and mastered at STR in San Diego, CA by Matt Ibarra of Rectal Hygienics and recorded at Altered States in Chicago, IL by Matt Russell (REZN, Oozing Wound, Big Laugh).

FOREIGN BODY formed in New York City in 2022 and quickly released an EP and a pair of demos. Their debut album FIXED followed via the cult Malaysian label Menora Recordings in 2023 with a 2025 re-release on Reanimated Miscarriage. Described by CVLT Nation as “one of the filthiest, most f*cked in the head records of the year”, FIXED got the attention of many in the underground thanks to both the band’s ferocity and its raw, unflinching lyrics.

FOREIGN BODY will play a hometown show on 21st March in Brooklyn, NY @ The Gutter with Reaper’s Gong (ex-Full of Hell). Stay tuned for updates on the forthcoming album and live performance dates in the coming months.
