HIGH ON FIRE have been nominated for a 2019 Grammy Award for “Best Metal Performance." Joining past nominees like Metallica, Motörhead, Faith No More and TOOL, this is the first time the band has been nominated in their twenty-year career.

'We are so honored to be appreciated by our peers,' says vocalist and guitarist Matt Pike. 'We love and live our art.'
'It doesn’t matter whether we win or not,' says drummer Des Kensel. 'It's just an honor to be recognized for our hard work and sacrifice after devoting our whole lives to music.' Finally, bassist Jeff Matz adds, 'This is pretty mind-blowing. We’re beyond thrilled about the nomination. We all put a lot of sweat and sleepless nights into writing and recording this album. It's amazing that our efforts are being recognized in this way.'

The 2019 Grammy Awards will be held on February 10, 2019, in Los Angeles, CA at the Staples Center.

HIGH ON FIRE recently announced the Electric Messiah tour 2019 in continued support of their new LP released earlier this year. These dates will be the first time the band has played live since the cancellation of their tour with Municipal Waste earlier this year due to the partial amputation of Matt Pike’s toe.

HIGH ON FIRE released Electric Messiah last month to some serious critical acclaim. The A.V. Club stated that 'The bar for metal album of the year has been raised' and they couldn't be more correct. Electric Messiah has landed on a myriad of 2018 year-end lists including A.V. Club, Revolver, Loudwire and Consequence of Sound

Consequence of Sound said the new LP “successfully construct Sabbath-ian, earth-moving riffs as their blueprint." Pitchfork said boldly, 'When High On Fire rip, it’s like they're tearing through the whole universe.'

'I had a dream about Lemmy,' says Pike, explaining the inspiration behind the title of HIGH ON FIRE’s title track, 'Electric Messiah.'
'When Lemmy was still alive I always got compared to Lemmy,' the gravelly-voiced guitarist elaborates, 'so I had this dream where he got p*ssed at me.'

'He gave me a bunch of sh*t, basically, and was hazing me'ot that he didn’t approve of me, but like I was being hazed. The song is me telling the world that I could never fill Lemmy’s shoes because Lemmy’s Lemmy. I wanted to pay homage to him in a great way. And it turned out to be such a good title that the guys said we should call the album 'Electric Messiah.'

Additionally, HIGH ON FIRE will be performing at 2019 Psycho Las Vegas taking place August 16-18, 2019 in Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay Resort. Tickets are on sale now, click here for more info.

Scottish alt-rock trio ATLAS : EMPIRE stream debut LP

The Stratosphere Beneath Our Feet released December 07

Atlas Empire Resize .jpg

Scottish alt-prog rock trio Atlas : Empire are streaming their debut LP The Stratosphere Beneath Our Feet, released today, 7th December.

First premiered via Prog Magazine, you can now stream the album at: https://atlasempire.bandcamp.com or on Spotify: https://sptfy.com/1bsA

The Stratosphere Beneath Our Feet follows Atlas : Empire's succession of three EPs, the last of which is 2015's The Stratosphere Beneath Our Feet Pt. 1 (For The Satellites). Since forming in 2011, the band have toured extensively throughout the UK, EU and through Eastern Canada, including supporting Tiny Moving PartsThe Pineapple ThiefClosure in Moscow, and Good Tiger.

The Stratosphere Beneath Our Feet is a concept record, centralised around humanity’s growing reliance on technology, and how this impacts our ability to have organic interaction and genuine communication. It explores how a society - dehumanised and disconnected - falls into disarray when this reliance is suddenly removed.

Each song is written from a new perspective and the experiences each new person goes through, both before and after this mass technological collapse.

For fans of Arcane Roots, Black Peaks, The Twilight Sad, Press To Meco and more, Atlas : Empire are ready to stake their claim in the next wave of intelligent Scottish alt-rock. Soaring highs meet the lows of melancholia, complemented by figurative guitarwork and highly compelling atmospheric production, creating a highly impressive LP worthy of repeat listens.

Watch the band live:

08/12/18 - Stereo, Glasgow (w/ Nothing)
13/12/18 - Subside, Birmingham
15/12/18 - Underground, Plymouth

OVTLIER release nightmarish video 'Vice'

Taken from their EP What Doesn't Kill You out now

OVTLIER lo res.png

Metal/hardcore project OVTLIER announce the bone-chilling video for 'Vice', off their debut EP What Doesn’t Kill You. Led by the enigmatic vocalist/songwriter, Joey ArenaOVTLIER have already captivated more than 60K daily followers online.  What Doesn’t Kill You was released with rave reviews from Loudwire, Revolver,  Alt Press, Metal Nexus, Pure Grain Audio, ABC News Rochester, among others, and the band just signed with The Orchard/Curtain Call.

Premiered via Impericon, watch the video for 'Vice' HERE

The track borrows from a variety of genres, from punk to metal to hip-hop/rap, as frontman Arena showcases his ability to wail soul-shattering notes and swiftly rap verses. Their sound draws influence from Breaking Benjamin, 30 Seconds To Mars, Korn, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, and others.

The video features Arena grappling with his demons in a haunting scene that looks like it was pulled directly from a horror film. He endures torture and torment from haunting masked figures as he sings, 'The whole world is against me tonight but no matter how hard they try they’ll never take me.' The cinematic video reaches a horrifying climax when he unmasks one of the demonic figures, only to find himself.

Arena explains that, ''Vice’ is about battling my demons. The constant struggle with anxiety and working to progress onward. Not allowing me to be swallowed up by self doubt especially in the creation of the record. We all possess the ability to manifest greatness, rise above, take control of our lives and persevere in whatever we choose.'

Inspired by 90s grunge, Arena began playing on an old 3-string guitar at age 11. He achieved commercial success with his first band Young Bloods, but struggled to find himself. He spent weekends traveling 8 hours from Rochester to Cleveland in search of an identity and definition for what would become What Doesn’t Kill You.

OVTLIER have built a strong name for themselves on the US live circuit playing alongside Ice Nine Kills,  Sevendust, The Plot In You and Butcher Babies, Nonpoint, Attila, Sylar, Underoath, August Burns Red, Sworn In, Impending Doom, New Years Day and more. 2019 will see the band make their UK live debut, more news coming soon.

'Faces of Janus' is a highly impressive listen from such a new band, drawing from the aggression of contemporary metalcore, the gut-loosening heaviness of tech-metal and the ambience and creativity of post-rock.

I is 10 tracks of ferocious modern metal where chaos and aggression are equalled with precision and finesse. The album introduces the concept of the ‘I-factor’, a 3.0 variant of the much sought-after X-factor. I is the ninth letter of the modern Latin alphabet, it has importance in the fields of mathematics and chemistry, I is the symbol for electric current and is an abbreviation for international. For FOR I AM KING, the ‘I-factor’ lies in the combination of the musical components: modern, complex, furious but catchy metal with infectious melodies and uniquely aggressive vocals.

In support of IFOR I AM KING have scheduled a 'hometown' release show at the legendary Melkweg, in Amsterdam, on December 7th. Support for the night will come from Off The Cross.
