POISONOUS BIRDS release collaborative EP with Sunflower (Mark Holley, Black Foxxes)
marktom.jpg

Two of the United Kingdom's brightest musical minds have released a collaborative EP, titled Low Tide and the Dying Sun. Bringing together the talents of Sunflower (Mark Holley of Black Foxxes fame) and POISONOUS BIRDS (Tom RidleyFinn Mclean, Jack Barrett), Low Tide and the Dying Sun is a stunning, yearning, emotive release, demonstrating the true power of cooperation.

Stream Low Tide and the Dying Sun here: http://links.poisonousbirds.com/lowtide.html

All songs were recorded in Tom Ridley's home studio in 2019.

As Sunflower comments: “I met Tom at the start of 2019 after a long run of feeling disenfranchised with the music industry. We shared similar interests but had a very different way of writing music and it was pretty obvious from the start that it felt like a really unique and interesting take on an otherwise very saturated market.

"We finished writing a bunch of songs over those coming months and didn’t really know where they belonged: whether it was going to become the next Black Foxxes project or whether we would start a new band. In the end it felt right to just release it as a collaborative project seeing as we both have new releases under our main projects (Black Foxxes & Poisonous Birds) coming out later in the year.

"Speaking personally, I’m fucking stoked with the music. It’s been a breath of fresh air to not have any other people getting in the way of the music and clouding the whole thing with politics. This couldn’t be any more organically created. I personally wrote these songs during a really brutal time of my life, and they feel as real to me now as they did then. As far as I’m concerned that’s what it’s all about. So fuck it, enjoy them. <3.”

In the words of TomPOISONOUS BIRDS“Mark came to me with these little demos: beautiful little songs, mostly with just guitar and voice - sometimes some other bits too. I sometimes deconstructed them entirely, rearranged, destroyed, deleted stuff, added stuff. Other times I was less heavy handed, and I just framed Mark’s voice with some nice instrumentation. It was a really freeing experience for me - Mark had already provided constraints. And those limitations brought out some of my most creative moments. I also broke loads of habits during these sessions - wore out all of my old tricks and had to find new ones. These songs, and the forthcoming Poisonous Birds material are much more original as a result.

"For a minute we started preparing a live show. That was before I mixed this record, and those sessions in our pokey little rehearsal space in Stokes Croft informed loads of the mixing decisions. Maybe we’ll revisit that one day.”

One of the more intriguing acts in the British rock scene currently, POISONOUS BIRDS are more than just a band. The trio have already been championed by DIY Magazine, Kerrang! Radio, Bristol In Stereo, and more, and have supported The Physics House Band and Sleep Token, among others.

The electronically-influenced group, in their own words, take more inspiration from the visual arts than music. Their live performances take the form of improvisational collages, more than scripted songs. Most songs contain well over 100 tracks, subtly sampling, re-sampling, modifying as they move forward.

Tom (vocals, songwriter, producer, electronics) has co-directed and scored a film for BBC Four, titled Elver, which'll be airing shortly; beyond this, he's designed sounds for Dyson and is co-writing, producing with ZAND.

POISONOUS BIRDS will be announcing more news shortly.

PATRÓN announce debut album and stream new single
Patrón1 small.jpg

Sleaze rockers PATRÓN have unveiled their single 'Room With A View,' the first taken from their debut self-titled album, which is set for release via Klonosphere on 29th May 2020.

Watch the video to 'Room With A View' here: https://youtu.be/YAL_lTNgEnI

Frontman Lo commented on 'Room With A View': "I imagine 'Room With A View' as the opening score to Roberto Rodriguez's next feature film, if it were set in a post-apocalyptic and degenerative Las Vegas where the only chance of salvation is Barry White's resurrection."

PATRÓN is a new project fronted by Lo (aka Patrón) frontman of the band Loading Data. The self-titled debut album was produced by Alain Johannes (Queens of the Stone Age, Eleven, Them Crooked Vultures, Chris Cornell Band) and also happens to be the last album ever recorded in his legendary studio 11AD, in Los Angeles.

Lo had some well known friends record the album with him: Joey Castillo (Danzig, Queens of the Stone Age, The Bronx), Barrett Martin (Mad Season, Screaming Trees, Tuatara), Nick Oliveri (Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Mondo Generator), Aurélien Barbolosi (Aston Villa) and Monique St Walker (Blackbird Days).

PATRÓN is a melting pot of influences, a new entity, a sort of Frankenstein creature, borrowing as much from stoner rock, 50s rock n roll, the Rat Pack as from 80s pop. It's sexy, it’s groovy, it’s loud and heavy.  Heady melodies that will stick to your skin like a thirsty alcoholic tick.

PATRÓN are:
Lo aka Patrón : Lead Vocal / Guitar / Keyboard
Joey Castillo : Drums
Nick Oliveri : Bass
Aurélien Barbolosi : Guitar
Alain Johannes : Bass, Guitar, Keyboard, Vocal
Barrett Martin : Drum
Monique St Walker : Vocal
Aurelia : Vocal

BLACK ORCHID EMPIRE release new single and rescheduled UK tour dates with Exist Immortal
Black Orchid Empire Resize .jpg

UK rock trio BLACK ORCHID EMPIRE share their brand new single / video 'Death From Above', the third track taken from the new studio album Semaphore coming 12th June, 2020 via Long Branch Records

Watch the lyric video for 'Death From Above' here: https://youtu.be/ah5dlcLWIvo

Semaphore is available for pre-order here: blackorchidempire.lnk.to/semaphore

BLACK ORCHID EMPIRE guitarist / singer Paul Visser commented“This is one of the heavier songs from Semaphore, and features a riff we've been tinkering with since touring Yugen. We're experimenting on this record with pushing our boundaries both in terms of melody and technicality, and 'Death From Above' is an example of one of the more progressive metal-influenced songs on the album.

"Lyrically it's inspired by the amazing work of Richard Morgan and his Takeshi Kovacs series, he's one of my favourite SF writers. The song is about the winged, raptor-like Martians that feature in his books (and more recently Altered Carbon on Netflix), and the technology they left behind. I especially love the middle section, it's so much fun to sing over that dreamy, ambient landscape. Then Dave and Billy lock in with their syncopated rhythm and it's an awesome moment. We can't wait to see the crowd reaction when we play this one live.”

The band have announced rescheduled dates for their co-headline tour with UK tech-metallers Exist Immortal. They will also be making appearances at Tech Fest and 7Fest. Catch them on the following dates:

With Exist Immortal

29.10. UK, Brighton - The Hope & Ruin
30.10. UK, Bristol - The Old England
31.10. UK, Bournemouth - The Anvil
01.11. UK, London - 229 The Venue

Festivals:

12.07. UK, 7 Fest, East Coast Showground
04.07. UK, Tech Fest, Newwark Showground

Australian prog prodigies EBONIVORY stream new single
1EP_1587-Editresize.jpg

EBONIVORY, one of the fastest-rising acts of the blossoming Australian progressive music scene, have streamed their powerful new single & video for 'Introvection', taken from their new album The Long Dream I on 5th June via Wild Thing Records.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/2SPyUelllF8

Pre-order The Long Dream I and stream the single here: https://smarturl.it/thelongdreamI

Singer Charlie Powlett comments: "'Introvection' is an endless deep dive into the self. Opening with a descending spiral of riffs and transitioning into truly heartfelt reflection, this song encapsulates the vastly different stages of self-grieving and acceptance after trauma. In signature fashion, 'Introvection' showcases our motivations as Ebonivory; to create an experience that hits hard without being overbearing, is musically complex whilst exercising restraint, and having the most fun possible without sacrificing the integrity of our art. We're immensely proud of this track, and we can't wait for you to hear it in the context of the full album. We’ll be hitting the road as soon as it's safe to do so, and we hope that everyone is staying strong through these difficult times.”

Hailing from Ballarat in rural Victoria, Australia, Ebonivory’s The Long Dream I is the first of a two-part concept album, delivering a vision that is pure and unrestrained by musical conformity, often leaving the listener nostalgic, enraged, and paralysed within the span of seconds. Entirely self-produced, mastered by Forrester Savell (Karnivool), and led by singer Charlie Powlett’s emotionally powerful delivery, every song presents a completely unique reimagining of what progressive music is capable of. The music shifts from the punk-inspired moments of 'Hanmer Street' into the gritty, futuristic soundscapes of 'Explosions After Dark', and transcendental riffs and passages of 'Introvection' - all the while effortlessly maintaining cohesive melodic bonds, resembling a sequence of dreams.

The last twelve months have seen EBONIVORY rise through the progressive ranks to become a commanding live act. A whirlwind performance at Australia’s acclaimed PROGFEST, alongside international heavyweights The Ocean (Germany), Monuments (UK) and Skyharbor (India/USA) kicked off 2019 in a big way for the Victoria, Australia quintet. They then went on to support alt-rock powerhouse Dead Letter Circus and traversed the country with progressive rock juggernaut Circles for their The Winter Tour.

The band's singles 'Patting the Black Dog' and 'Tales Of Termina' landed coverage with PROG Magazine (UK), Triple J’s The Racket, Spotify’s Homegrown + Heavy Playlist, and Rage. EBONIVORY recently toured Australia with fellow prog-scene mates Glass Ocean and were due to head to the US and Canada in May, touring with Caligula's Horse. This is now postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Youth of Dissent is available to pre-order on special edition vinyl, standard vinyl, and CD here: https://1000mods.bandcamp.com/album/youth-of-dissent

The band comment: “Sometimes you find yourself trapped in an inevitable dead-end situation. Walls become mirrors with frightening reflections. Depression is a major disorder and must be dealt with as such. Do not be ashamed to reach out for help when bad thoughts swallow you whole. Let the power of music and your beloved ones be your remedy. Stay safe!”

Produced by Matt Bayles (IsisMastodonSoundgardenPearl Jam, Botch and many more), and recorded at Litho Studio (owned by Stone Gossard, founding member of Pearl JamTemple of the Dog) and London Bridge Studio (where Pearl Jam’s Ten was recorded), Youth of Dissent is 1000mods' most mature record to date.

Having risen from smoky basements to packed arenas, 1000mods can be considered no less than the most successful Greek rock band of the past decade.

Deriving equally from the glorious 90's and the 70's (not only songwriting-wise but also due to their love for vintage equipment and analogue sound), 1000mods have never hesitated to blend all their influences. Retro, hard, doom, and space rock melded with grunge and alternative create a recipe of explosive heavy music that’s impossible to imitate.

1000mods offer inspired, powerful and uniquely fresh heavy tunes, satisfying everyone from stoners to metalheads, for over a decade. Their debut Super Van Vacation (2011) is now considered a classic in European heavy rock, as well as a game-changer for Greek rock music, selling tens of thousands of copies.

Praised by fans and press throughout the globe, the band's previous release Repeated exposure to... (2016) affirmed their place within European heavy rock and roll. The band went on to tour the US in February-March 2018, following that with a sold-out tour of Australia.

Boasting millions of streams and fans worldwide, 1000mods are stepping up with Youth of Dissent, a fearsome blend of taut songwriting, hard-hitting riffs, haunting melodies and hefty psychedelia.

Premiered via Decibel Magazine, check it out here: https://youtu.be/qDwJWHebAjA

Frontman Jason Evans commented, "We picked 'Impending Dominance' as the first single because it's hard as f*ck. Simple as. This is about sacrifice, and the things you have to do to become the best. Could you step over friend and foe alike to achieve immortality? What would you give to have everything you've ever wanted? What would you become? The road to hell is paved with the best intentions, but are you the same at the end of the journey?

"Huge grooves, massive slams and gargantuan riffs, it smashes you over the head from the start to finish. We f*ckin' love it and hopefully you will too! Stay safe!"

French melodic death unit TEMNEIN release single and animated music video
Temnein-Promo-1-860x484.jpg

French melodic death metal unit TEMNEIN have released a stunning animated video for new single 'I Am Davy Jones', taken from their third full-length, Tales: Of Humanity And Greed, out 22nd May via Blood Blast.

Directed by the band's bassist Julien De Giorgio, watch 'I Am Davy Jones' here: https://youtu.be/CwousZzOivY

Listen here: https://backl.ink/131113900

The band commented "This song is about a failed love story depicted by the tale of Davy Jones as a romantic metaphor: a pirate who has locked his heart in a chest after being betrayed by his lover. Directed by our bassist Julien, this animation silhouette video was influenced by Belgian artist Michel Ocelot and notably his 2011 film "Tales of the Night".

"Musically, this is the most emotional song on the record. A lot of shoe-gazed melodies and atmospheres are shaping the whole song, even in its fastest moments.
"

Produced by “El Mobo” (Loudblast, ETHS, The Great Old Ones, Eryn Non Dae, etc.) at Conkrete Studio in Bordeaux, France, Tales: Of Humanity And Greed is thematically based on various stories, myths, and legends exploring classic childhood occidental fairy tales, unsung fables from Asia and Inuit lands, pop culture universes (ie Legend Of Zelda, Majora’s Mask, Doctor Who etc.), and so much more. Each story is linked however to a common theme: the repetition of human error and avidity across time. Musically, TEMNEIN here employs shorter song structures than previous offerings adding more dynamics to their melo-death foundation. More doom/death and post-metal influences have crept into the band’s sound consequently enhancing the overall atmosphere. The records comes swathed in the stunning artwork of Vincent Fouquet (Meshuggah, Kataklysm, Moonsorrow, Kampfar, Nordjevel etc).

Tales: Of Humanity And Greed will see a physical release by the band on 22nd May with worldwide digital distribution by Blood Blast, a new service powered by Nuclear Blast and Believe Music.

Pre-order Tales: Of Humanity And Greed here: https://temnein.bandcamp.com/merch

Forged in France in 2009, TEMNEIN invokes the spirits of At The Gates, Dark Tranquillity, Ghost Brigade, Insomnium, Opeth, In Mourning, and the like while remaining singular in their output. The band have released two prior full-lengths: 404 B.C. (2014) through Mighty Music and White Stained Inferno (2017) through Massacre Records both of which reaped critical accolades from various international metal outlets. Of White Stained Inferno, Decibel Magazine wrote in part, “In addition to a slew of driving, main riffs, TEMNEIN fit in fancy leads, licks and melodies, furious and rhythmic drumming and plenty of vocals.” Added The Metal Observer, “The band effortlessly combine melody and aggression, delivering a number of fantastic songs that will live long in the memory.”

Over their decade-plus time together, TEMNEIN has toured through Europe, the UK, Russia, and Japan, including support slots with the likes of At The Gates, Beyond Creation, Hate, Mors Principium Est, The Crown, Svart Crown, and many others. The band has performed a host of European festivals including Durbuy Rock Festival, HRH Fest, AalborgRock & Metal Fest, and Loud Farm Fest with more live invasions to be announced in the weeks to come.

TEMNEIN:
Florian Frandidier – guitars
Julien De Giorgio – bass
Valentin Treuillier – drums
Jocelyn Fidry – vocals
Morgan Rappe – guitars

ENTERPRISE EARTH Unleash 'Scars Of The Past' Video
new pic 2020.png

ENTERPRISE EARTH are pleased to unleash the official new video for 'Scars Of The Past.' The punishing track comes by way of the band’s Luciferous full-length, released last spring via Entertainment One (eOne) / Good Fight Music.

Premiered via Decibel, ENTERPRISE EARTH’s 'Scars Of The Past' here: https://www.decibelmagazine.com/2020/04/09/enterprise-earth-scars-of-the-past-video/

Comments the band: “‘Scars Of The Past’ is reflection. The pain of our past mistakes, haunting with a shadow of fear that the pain animates across the bare walls of the present moment. The meaning it holds is an anthem to recovery. Letting go of the pain and recognising that the pain we experienced is what made us stronger. It’s a part of who we are. This video was taken at a sold-out show in Atlanta, Georgia. It was able to capture what the song and metal as a whole stands for. Letting go of the past and living life to the fullest in the present moment. If we could turn back time, we would do it again.”

Founded in 2014 by ex-Infant Annihilator vocalist Dan Watson and ex-Takeover guitarist BJ Sampson, ENTERPRISE EARTH takes its name from a confluence of Illuminati and other conspiracy theories. Produced and mixed by Jason Suecof (The Black Dahlia Murder, White Chapel, Job For A Cowboy, Carnifex)Luciferous showcases a band committed to brutal audio onslaught and proficient excellence. The band’s authentic death metal precision and technical might is unquestionable, as evidenced by their ravenous live delivery. True road warriors, ENTERPRISE EARTH have teamed with contemporaries like Dying Fetus, Whitechapel, Chelsea Grin, Thy Art Is Murder, Carnifex, Oceano, and Winds Of Plague, and joined the Summer Slaughter Tour with iconic genre trailblazers like Cannibal Corpse, Nile, and Suffocation.

Preview and purchase ENTERPRISE EARTH’s Luciferous here: https://lnk.to/EEluciferous

“…when it comes to groove-driven, blasting death metal with jaw-shattering beatdowns and jarring moments of slow-motion macabre, all requirements have been 100% fulfilled.” -- Blabbermouth

“The band find a kind of meaning in the auditory suffering, but that ‘meaning’ is not that everything is all okay in the end or even that it can be ‘okay’ at any further point. ENTERPRISE EARTH have instead packed a feeling into their newest record of utter backbreaking despair that knows no bounds, using the context of epically grueling death metal to elucidate and explore a pervading sense of rot that one need not look too far for these days.” -- New Noise Magazine

“…an explosion of emotion – raw, pure, and uninhibited – that grips the listener from start to finish. It is a concentrated mass of fury, horror, and pure tone. Albums like this do not come around often. Few manage to do so much so well with such consistency. ENTERPISE EARTH have touched on something truly special here.” -- Distorted Sound
