Reformed in 2017 after a ten year hiatus, the UK's most devastating death/doom stalwarts, ATAVIST, triumphantly return in 2020 with a brand new studio album. Titled III: Absolution, the album will be released via Candlelight Records on 19th June and is the band's third full length, coming almost thirteen years after their highly acclaimed 2007 release, II: Ruined (Profound Lore Records).
III: Absolution comprises four mammoth new tracks of heavy, emotive and atmospheric death/doom metal reminiscent of the ATAVIST's early history, but also incorporating the progression of a band who have grown as musicians and writers over the last decade; in a variety of other extreme metal projects.
Featuring Winterfylleth guitarist and vocalist, C. Naughton, along with bassist S. Ryan, drummer C. Cox and vocalist T. Bradshaw, their creative forces meld once again on III: Absolution. ATAVIST present something otherworldly, unique and sonically powerful on this album; highlighting, even after so long, a band capable of creating uncompromising and essential music that can still rival its peers' at the top of the genre.
Guitarist C. Naughton commented: "This is a soundtrack that travels through the depths of human emotion, from losing everything, mourning loss, realising your own mind, right through to finding your way again. Ultimately finding Absolution at the end of that journey. There is no joy here, only relief at the end of an arduous voyage."
III: Absolution also features the haunting string performances of prominent solo artist Jo Quail on Cello (Mono/My Dying Bride), as well as the exceptional talents of Bianca Blezard on Viola/Violin (Winterfylleth). The album furthermore incorporates some new twists and turns along the way, featuring a number of moving, atmospheric, synth landscapes from the ever talented Winterfylleth/ARD keyboardist Mark Deeks, to complement the doom.
Recorded and produced by the legendary Chris Fielding (Primordial/Napalm Death/Winterfylleth/Electric Wizard) @ Skyhammer & Foel Studios, and mastered by James Plotkin (Khanate/Jodis/Old Lady Drivers), this album is a true essential for all fans of the genre.
III: Absolution will be released via Candlelight Records on 19th June.

The esoteric and unique alternative trio POISONOUS BIRDS have streamed their new single and video 'Warm Jets', taken from their forthcoming EP We Can Never Not Be All Of Us, released 14th August.
Watch the video for 'Warm Jets' here: https://youtu.be/kKND7omM1as
Stream: http://links.poisonousbirds.com/warmjets.html
In the words of POISONOUS BIRDS' Tom Ridley: "'Warm Jets' was written with Gabriel Gifford, a Bristol-based producer and songwriter best known for his work with Harvey Causon.
Back in March a Facebook group called Isolation Tapes emerged, filled with friends and friends-of-friends from the Bristol music community. Gabe shared this with us: gabrielgifford.bandcamp.com, a bunch of sketches from the first few weeks of isolation. “Youthful Bother” caught my imagination - he’d recorded a little upright piano in his flat and a few tracks of cello, and the mood of the piece put me in this quiet, pensive mindset and the song pretty much poured out.
Where 'Mood Stabiliser' was an exploration of my past, this became a study of my present - not literally about my day-to-day living in a pandemic (which will no doubt be well-documented by others) - but rather as as man in my late twenties clinging to the some of the same hopes and fears and dreams that developed during childhood."
The new EP follows hot on the heels of POISONOUS BIRDS' collaborative EP with Sunflower, the solo project from Black Foxxes' Mark Holley. A stunning, yearning, emotive release, you can stream Low Tide and the Dying Sun here: http://links.poisonousbirds.com/lowtide.html
One of the more intriguing acts in the British rock scene currently, Bristol-based POISONOUS BIRDS are more than just a band.
The electronically-influenced group, in their own words, take more inspiration from the visual arts than music. Their live performances take the form of improvisational collages, more than scripted songs. Most songs contain well over 100 tracks, subtly sampling, re-sampling, modifying as they move forward.
The trio have already been championed by DIY Magazine, Kerrang! Radio, Bristol In Stereo, and more, and have supported The Physics House Band and Sleep Token, among others. Bearing comparison to a heavy Radiohead, Battles, SCALPING, 65daysofstatic and HEALTH, POISONOUS BIRDS' guitarless approach is as much electronic as rock-centred.
Tom (vocals, songwriter, producer, electronics) has co-directed and scored a film for BBC Four, titled Elver; beyond this, he's designed sounds for Dyson and is co-writing, producing with ZAND.

German hardcore quintet GIVER have streamed their new single 'Order From Above', written in protest of police brutality and racism, and released in time for Bandcamp's 'no-fee' day.
All proceeds will be donated to ISD (Initiative of Black People in Germany): http://isdonline.de/
Stream 'Order From Above' here: https://giverhc.bandcamp.com/track/order-from-above
The band comment:
“Peace is equality, not an order from above. 'Order From Above' was recorded during the Sculpture Of Violence session last year. It is a song about police brutality and the racism that still dwells within the powers that enforce the laws of our society. While writing, we were thinking of far-right German terrorist group The NSU-Complex and the entanglement of the German police within it, a case still unsolved. We kept the song until a time where it made more sense to release it, and feel that time is now. Even though we are five white dudes who can’t imagine what racism feels like, we stand in deep solidarity with the protest in the USA–no matter what form they may take for that is not ours to judge. Download it on Bandcamp, who are waving their fees again today. 100% of the money raised will be donated to the ISD (Initiative of Black People in Germany): http://isdonline.de/"
Such a forthright political and moral stance is typical of GIVER, a band whose LP Sculpture of Violence railed exploitative labour, the dissonance of religious discord and ill-conceived concepts of masculinity in the current climate to catastrophic effect. The album, whilst bleak, maintained a youthful vibrancy which truly aims to deliver change on a personal and much broader level.
GIVER's Sculpture Of Violence leans into fresh and melodious territory, reminiscent of early 00's hardcore birthed with the likes of Bridge Nine Records and Deathwish Inc., including Blacklisted, Have Heart and Modern Life Is War.
The German band have expanded upon their foundation of caustic and high tempo metal-tinged hardcore which won them acclaim with debut full-length Where The Cycle Breaks (January 2018). With new record, Sculpture Of Violence, GIVER demonstrate a dogged urgency and a self-assured versatility, a worthy addition to the modern international hardcore scene's bent of great melodic albums.
In the band's own words: "The central question behind Sculpture Of Violence really is whether there can ever be peace. Since men started settling during the neolithic revolution 10,000 years ago, the amount of years of recorded peace is disturbingly negligible. The record explores different ways and structures in which we form each other through the collective We that is society, which is us and not anybody else and which brings us up against one another and constantly focus on our differences... With the climate catastrophe approaching, the far right growing stronger everyday and the market economy reaching into even the furthest corners of our lives, the time to remain silent is simply over."

Technical death metal monsters AHTME have unveiled 'Hair Of The Hog', the first single from new album Mephitic, a noxious mix of wizardry and brutality, delivered with obscene ferocity, out 24th July via Unique Leader.
Watch the lyric video to 'Hair Of The Hog' here: https://youtu.be/qzDAv6axGEo
The band comment: "With this new album we tried to include plenty of different flavors, enough to satisfy any palate. But 'Hair of the Hog' has a classic taste, something everyone recognizes. The type of meal that just slams into your gullet like a beer bong full of taco meat. Dig in! "
Surgically precise guitar riffs, a groove-driven ultra-sturdy rhythm section, topped with raw, violent roaring vocals, come together to create AHTME.
Forming in Kansas City Missouri under the name The Roman Holiday, AHTME bring a signature and unique sound to the table. After a long journey solidifying their sound, they renamed as AHTME and their 2018 debut album under that name Sewer Born turned many heads, establishing them firmly in the US death metal scene.
Relying more on groovy, and catchy riffs to grab their twisted audience by their necks and slam them to the ground. The quintet always delver something you can bang your head to, all while maintaining the guarantee to pick even the thickest of tech scabs off the arms of those interested only in speed and precision.
Hold onto your boots.

Desert groove rockers PATRÓN have released a studio session video for the track 'Very Bad Boy', featuring Barrett Martin on drums, Alain Johannes on bass and guitar, and Aurélien Barbolosi on guitar.
Watch the studio session video for 'Very Bad Boy' here: https://youtu.be/9KIfiaitlXo
'Very Bad Boy' is the third single taken from their debut self-titled album, Patrón, released via Klonosphere today, 29th May 2020.
PATRÓN is a new project fronted by Lo (aka Patrón) frontman of the band Loading Data. The self-titled debut album was produced by Alain Johannes (Queens of the Stone Age, Eleven, Them Crooked Vultures, Chris Cornell Band) and also happens to be the last album ever recorded in his legendary studio 11AD, in Los Angeles.
Lo had some well known friends record the album with him: Joey Castillo (Danzig, Queens of the Stone Age, The Bronx), Barrett Martin (Mad Season, Screaming Trees, Tuatara), Nick Oliveri (Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Mondo Generator), Aurélien Barbolosi (Aston Villa) and Monique St Walker (Blackbird Days).
PATRÓN is a melting pot of influences, a new entity, a sort of Frankenstein creature, borrowing as much from stoner rock, 50s rock n roll, the Rat Pack as from 80s pop. It's sexy, it’s groovy, it’s loud and heavy. Heady melodies that will stick to your skin like a thirsty alcoholic tick.
PATRÓN are:
Lo aka Patrón : Lead Vocal / Guitar / Keyboard
Joey Castillo : Drums
Nick Oliveri : Bass
Aurélien Barbolosi : Guitars
Alain Johannes : Bass, Guitar, Keyboard, Vocal
Barrett Martin : Drums
Monique St Walker : Vocals
Aurelia : Vocals

RISING INSANE deliver music in a dualistic manner: post-hardcore inspired rage is coupled with melancholic overtones, creating a sound that is irresistible to fans of melodic and aggressive modern metal.
A band with hardworking DIY roots, RISING INSANE released debut album Nation in June 2017 which quickly earned them shows with the likes of The Devil Wears Prada, For Today, Stray from the Path and more. The DIY struggle further inspired the band and fuelled their determination, which paid off with them earning a German and Austrian tour with Annisokay at the end of 2018 and a slot at Impericon Festival 2019.
Strengthened by the energy of this ride, they produced and recorded their second album, Porcelain, which was released on 1st November 2019 via Long Branch Records. Still inspired by self initiative and DIY work ethic, Porcelain is the most honest, inspiring and haunting music RISING INSANE have ever written.
