"Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, we want to be transparent that our upcoming headline tour in December is subject to how the virus will evolve over the next months. DEEDS OF FLESH return with new album and single
Deeds-2020-Crop-web.jpg

Technical death metal pioneers DEEDS OF FLESH return after a seven year hiatus with their 9th studio album Nucleus, set for release via Unique Leader Records on 11th December 2020 (Vinyl release 15th January 2021).

DEEDS OF FLESH have also unveiled the first single from the album, 'Alyen Scourge'. Check it out here: https://youtu.be/EC8-3PImbeA

The band's first release since the tragic passing of guitarist / vocalist and Unique Leader founder Erik Lindmark, who lost a battle with sclerosis in 2018, Nucleus features guest performances some of the biggest names in extreme metal to celebrate his life and contribution to metal. Vocalist Jacoby Kingston is joined by:

Luc Lemay (Gorguts)
John Gallagher (Dying Fetus)
George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher (Cannibal Corpse)
Frank Mullen (Suffocation)
Matti Way (Submerged, ex Disgorge)
Bill Robinson (Decrepit Birth)
Dusty Boisjolie (Severed Savior, Illuminegra)
Anthony Trapani (Odious Mortem, Severed Savior),
Obie Flett (Pathology)
Robbe Kok (Disavowed)

Jon Zig (Serpentian).

With a mix of the old and new style of DEEDS OF FLESH writing, this album is the completion of a story that began with Of What's to Come (2008) and ran through Portals to Canaan (2013). The music was written by Erik Lindmark (RIP), Craig Peters, Ivan Munguia and Darren Cesca, and had been recorded and partially mixed for almost four years. When Erik Lindmark passed in 2018, vocalist Jacoby Kingston came out of retirement to help finish the album. Alongside long-time drummer Mike Hamilton, they finished the story arc, wrote the lyrics and made the vocal arrangements for Nucleus.

Guitarist Craig Peters commented: "After we started the writing process for Nucleus about seven years ago, I'm very glad that now fans will be able to hear what we've been working on. This album is special to me because I got to work closely with Erik on the material to really craft a cinematic experience for the listener. With the passing of Erik we were all saddened by the news and not sure where things would go with the album and the band. It only seemed right to have Jacoby and Mike come back into the fold to help finish this album. They're such a huge part of the DEEDS OF FLESH legacy that I couldn't see the album completed any other way. Nucleus completes this amazing story that Erik started with Of What's To Come with a fusion of older and newer musical elements of the band with stuff fans have never heard before. Get ready because this album is an intense journey!"

Vocalist Jacoby Kingston commented: "After losing Erik, it didn’t feel right to have anyone else do the vocals on this album, so I knew coming out of retirement only made sense. Mike Hamilton and I made a plan to tackle the story and lyrics as a team and it came out better than I could have hoped for. Writing and performing on this album brought me back to the early days of recording 'Gradually Melted' and 'Trading Pieces', when everything was new and exciting. We put 100% into this album and I think it really shows. The dream team of guest vocalists that laid down tracks on this album is ridiculous and humbling at the same time. We are honored to have them, and I think fans will be excited about it once they learn who is on there. The music is freaking crazy, but it’s definitely a DEEDS album. We’ve managed to mix some of the old and new together to come out with a hybrid form for a new era."

Comments vocalist Steve Tinnon“We’re extremely excited to finally start sharing this album with everyone! We’ve been working on it for well over a year and really trying to zero in on what the new version of WITHIN THE RUINS was going to sound like, and we’re very proud of the new direction. ‘Deliverance’ is a great representation of the darker, angrier approach we wanted to take and felt it was an appropriate first track to release. We can’t wait to release Black Heart and start this next chapter!”

The mission statement for album six was simple: domination. WITHIN THE RUINS set out to top themselves, in every conceivable way, and with the suitably titled Black Heart, they succeeded.

Savage, ruthless, unrelenting, and hyper-focused, WITHIN THE RUINS hammers home ten songs of sheer terror with an unforgiving mandate to destroy. Combining the breakneck precision of classic slabs like Invade and Elite with the unrestrained raw aggression of Halfway HumanBlack Heart emerges from the most extended space between records with remarkable urgency and energy.

For more than a decade, WITHIN THE RUINS has reigned among the elite of modern death metal, injecting the angsty attack of thrash and the attitude of hardcore punk, while mining the best of deathcore. Audiences quickly grew to understand that WITHIN THE RUINS overlaps into several extreme subgenres without limitations from any of them. The determination and skill evident across their six studio albums and three EPs are outmatched only by their devastating live presence, seen on tours with groups like Killswitch Engage, The Black Dahlia Murder, Suicide Silence, and As I Lay Dying.

Vocalist Steve Tinnon arrived for his full-length debut with a mountain of things to get off his chest, screamed throughout the songs with both intensity and dexterity. He previously fronted another band that included WITHIN THE RUINS bassist/vocalist Paolo Galang, making this version of the outfit a supergroup of sorts, combined with co-founders, guitarist Joe Cocchi and drummer Kevin McGuill. As with previous records, Cocchi produced his parts as well as his bandmates, together with longtime producer, mixer, and mastering engineer Joshua Wickman of Dreadcore Productions.

New powerhouses like 'Domination,' 'Deliverance,' 'Hollow,' and 'Outsider' take their place alongside WITHIN THE RUINS anthems like 'Gods Amongst Men,' 'Beautiful Agony,' and 'Enigma.' The group stands tall among their peers in post-modern death metal, technical progressive metal, and the so-called 'deathcore' movement, with Gojira like flourishes of colour and meditation.

Black Heart will be released on CD, LP, and digital formats. For pre-order options, visit THIS LOCATION.

Further info:

Born and bred in the same heavy metal fertile Northeast soil as New Wave Of American Heavy Metal progenitors Killswitch Engage and All That RemainsWITHIN THE RUINS charted their own course in the genre, offering a unique take on familiar ingredients: the dark sounds of classic death metal; the technical melodicism of Scandinavia; and the precision staccato crunch of Meshuggah. In contrast to much of the genre, they maintain an emphasis on the songs over the shred. Showmanship and diversity coexist, smartly sidestepping contrived or predictable sonic choices.

WITHIN THE RUINS represents the pinnacle of possibility when a band keeps their feet firmly rooted in the foundations of modern death metal, chews upon tidbits of classic thrash, and all the while reach upward to grasp toward new creative heights of their own design, with hunger and skill.

All Music praised the band’s debut album, 2009’s Creature, likening it to Master Of Puppets played “twice as fast.” Sputnik Music called 2010’s Invade “high on technicality” and drew a comparison to Meshuggah. Reviews were even stronger for their third opus. Concluded Under The Gun, “If there’s one deathcore album to listen to in the early quarter of 2013, it’s Elite.” Album four arrived just a year later and Substream fittingly declared, “In the simplest terms, Phenomena is freaking phenomenal.” Halfway Human was a super-strength strike against complacency and conformity. There were rich moments of vibe more in common with the early thrash attack of the ‘80s than the processed sounds of today, right down to the moment when someone yelled “guitar!” before a solo. Black Heart keeps a hint of that looseness, while still monstrously crushing, with huge riffs galore.

The songs themselves are deadly serious, but the boys in the group carry on the equally important metal tradition of having a good time. They blend beer and breakdowns with easy-going charm, and camaraderie with other bands and fans. WITHIN THE RUINS are refreshingly authentic, feverishly committed, and built to endure. Filled with power, deserving of utter respect, armed with concise compositions and technical might, these Massachusetts metal merchants will not be stopped.

WITHIN THE RUINS:

Joe Cocchi – guitars
Kevin McGuill – drums
Paolo Galang – bass, vocals
Steve Tinnon – vocals

INTERVALS return with explosive new single and announce ambitious new album
Intervals Promos FILM (20 of 39) small.jpg

Torchbearers of progressive, instrumental rock, INTERVALS, have announced the next chapter in their artistic journey today via the explosive new single '5-HTP'. This latest offering finds Aaron Marshall - the creative force behind INTERVALS - exploring new sonic territory behind a massive wall of guitars, cannon-esque percussion, and a meticulous composition sure to excite the band’s longtime following while welcoming new fans into the fold.

Listen to '5-HTP' here: https://youtu.be/f4KCAzK8X0Q

The unveiling of '5-HTP' came alongside news that the band’s highly anticipated fourth full length, Circadian, will be out 13th November 13, 2020 and is available now for pre-order. The studio documentary about the making of Circadian is also available to watch now on YouTube.

Aaron Marshall comments: "I'm so excited to be on the cusp of a new release! After 2.5 years of touring, and whatever the heck this year has been...here we are! '5-HTP' is a concise introduction to the world of Circadian, and a quick taste of what this record has in store. As I was nearing the end of the writing process, I felt that the album needed an effective intro, and as a result, '5-HTP' was born. I hope everyone enjoys this precursor to the journey ahead, and I can't wait to share more with everyone as we make our way towards the official drop!"

Circadian was co-produced by Marshall and fellow Torontonian, Sam Guaiana (Silverstein, Obey The Brave, Like Pacific) - marking the first time the esteemed producer had ever worked on an instrumental record. It was also the first time that most of the work on an INTERVALS record was done locally in Toronto. As a result, Marshall had the opportunity to be more involved in the production and mixing process than ever before.

Circadian is meant to be viewed as a singular piece, with obsessive attention paid to the flow of the record. It’s full of motifs, cadences, and themes that are revisited throughout the record and even recalled from previous releases. Circadian intentionally clocks in at eight songs and roughly 40 minutes, as Marshall gave considerable thought to where the sweet spot between listener satisfaction and desire to immediately play it back was. Every minute detail surrounding the record has purpose, and builds towards an all encompassing experience.

Greek prog / groove metal band CALYCES stream new track, ft. Jørgen Munkeby (Shining)
on the stairs IV resize.jpg

Not many things are as exciting as new beginnings. Enter CALYCES, the new Greek groove metal quartet, who have streamed another new track from their forthcoming debut LP Impulse to Soar (due to be released 16th October).

'Unfair Labor' features a guest saxophone solo from Shining's Jørgen Munkeby, and was premiered on Decibel Magazine, who said of the record: it's "a broad spanning beast of massive, yet digestible, melodic strains, understated complexity, pulsating dynamics and lots of neat-o baritone vocalizing".

You can now listen to 'Unfair Labor' here: https://youtu.be/ab_Q5_iQ5Xk

Pre-order Impulse to Soar here: https://calyces.bandcamp.com

Fronted by ex-Tardive Dyskinesia vocalist Manthos StergiouCALYCES are a new force on the Greek metal scene.

The soon-to-be-released Impulse to Soar blends prog metal in the way it was shaped through the 00’s, with the finest elements of classic progressive rock from the 70’s, but all with a very 2020 twist. Low-tuned heavy riffs meld with a barrage of polyrhythmic attacks, atmospheric passages, and full-on groove, melody, and energy. An enervating and invigorating first step on to the scene; a record that will add to the collections of all supporters of modern-age MastodonAlice In ChainsIntronautKing CrimsonBaronessToolGojira

Additional flair and artistry was provided by Jørgen Munkeby (Shining) with a saxophone solo on 'Unfair Labour' and of Chrysa Tsaltampasi (SpinelessBella Fuzz) with vocals on 'Beyond Sight'. Mastered by Grammy award-winning engineer, Alan Douches (MastodonKvelertakThe Dillinger Escape Plan etc) Impulse to Soar was recorded in various studios around Athens with these carefully selected collaborators in order to achieve the band's desired natural, organic sound. Human substance intertwines with artistic complexity to create a thrilling and exhilaratingly impressive debut full-length.

A new vehicle has formed; a metaphor for rebirth and new shape of life. Calyces - the sepals that form a protective layer around a budding flower - is a fitting name for this most exquisite and yet powerful of groups. Forming in 2018, the quartet are made up of well-known Greek musicians, beyond ManthosAlexis Stavropoulos (drums), Giannis Golfis (guitar) and Stelios Tragos (bass), all of them already key members in the bands Insect Radio and Revenge Of The Giant Face.

The stunning artwork for Impulse to Soar was painted by Maria Stergiou, the vocalist's sister.

Stream 'Home' feat. Drew York here: https://siamesedk.lnk.to/home

Drew York commented: "I loved working with SIAMESE, they gave me the opportunity to be creative for the 1st time since the pandemic hit. It felt great to get back into the studio again. SIAMESE trusted me and let me put my own twist on their art. That’s the kind of people that are worth collaborating with. The band is very strong, talented, and Mirza’s voice is so dope! This band has a bright future in heavy music, don’t sleep on SIAMESE.”

SIAMESE singer Mirza Radonjica commented: "'Home' came to me as we were all on lockdown, and not allowed to go out. It's that eternal mistress that will have your heart forever. For me that is Copenhagen. Also I am happy to have Drew on board on this banger. He just makes everything 100 percent more intense!"

SIAMESE drummer Joakim Stilling commented on the video: "The idea for the location came after I was biking with my family and coming through this abandoned military base. Going in to the old gym I found this empty pool with all these cool plants. I thought they were real. Turns out they are all fake, and that this was the setting for the Netflix series The Rain. Still we shot three music videos in one day at the location."

The band have also announced a UK tour in February 2020, see poster below for dates.

Former Cynic / Exivious trio OUR OCEANS release new single 'The Heart's Whisper'
unnamed (2).jpg

Dutch rock trio OUR OCEANS have released new single 'The Heart's Whisper', taken from their upcoming album While Time Disappears, out 27th November via Long Branch Records.

Singer / guitarist Tymon Kruidenier comments on 'The Heart's Whisper': "'The Heart’s Whisper' is about navigating the space of being misunderstood by someone you love. Trying to explain to the best of your ability that your intentions are honorable, yet it doesn’t seem to get across, no matter how hard you try. And in the process, you’re actually starting to doubt whether or not you are interpreting the other’s persons thoughts and intentions accurately.

"Musically, I think this song is the closest to what we did on our debut album. It’s a relatively simple song, but at the same time, there’s a lot of depth to be found in this simplicity. It reminds me quite a bit of ‘What If’, in that sense."

OUR OCEANS were formed by singer & guitarist Tymon Kruidenier (Cynic, Exivious). Joining him on bass and drums are his former Exivious colleagues, Robin Zielhorst (Cynic, Onegodless) and Yuma van Eekelen (Quadvium, Pestilence).

OUR OCEANS' inventive progressive rock centres on haunting vocal melodies that carry heartfelt cries of longing, anger and despair. Bolstered by lyrical fretless bass lines, vigorous drum beats and captivating guitar riffs, OUR OCEANS lace singer/songwriter influences with modern, progressive rock elements. Mindful musicianship and introspective lyrics are woven into a deeply melancholic, yet uniquely expansive musical universe.
