Fronted by ex-Tardive Dyskinesia vocalist Manthos Stergiou, CALYCES are a new force on the Greek metal scene.

The soon-to-be-released Impulse to Soar blends prog metal in the way it was shaped through the 00’s, with the finest elements of classic progressive rock from the 70’s, but all with a very 2020 twist. Low-tuned heavy riffs meld with a barrage of polyrhythmic attacks, atmospheric passages, and full-on groove, melody, and energy. A scintillating and invigorating first step on to the scene; a record that will add to the collections of all supporters of modern-age Mastodon, Alice In Chains, Intronaut, King Crimson, Baroness, Tool, Gojira. 

Additional flair and artistry was provided by Jørgen Munkeby (Shining) with a saxophone solo on 'Unfair Labour' and of Chrysa Tsaltampasi (Spineless, Bella Fuzz) with vocals on 'Beyond Sight'. Mastered by Grammy award-winning engineer, Alan Douches (Mastodon, Kvelertak, The Dillinger Escape Plan etc) Impulse to Soar was recorded in various studios around Athens with these carefully selected collaborators in order to achieve the band's desired natural, organic sound. Human substance intertwines with artistic complexity to create a thrilling and exhilaratingly impressive debut full-length.

A new vehicle has formed; a metaphor for rebirth and new shape of life. Calyces - the sepals that form a protective layer around a budding flower - is a fitting name for this most exquisite and yet powerful of groups. Forming in 2018, the quartet are made up of well-known Greek musicians, beyond Manthos: Alexis Stavropoulos (drums), Giannis Golfis (guitar) and Stelios Tragos (bass), all of them already key members in the bands Insect Radio and Revenge Of The Giant Face.

The stunning artwork for Impulse to Soar was painted by Maria Stergiou, the vocalist's sister.

The band commented: "‘Stigmata' is about taking a situation into your own hands on a person who has committed horrendous acts – the idea of vigilante justice flows through the song and represents not rolling over, or letting anyone else sort your own problems for you. Taking control of your own emotions and owning your own response to situations is so important to us, taking responsibility for your own actions.‘

RÏCÏNN comments: "Psamatäe, is a song about desire. The gaze of the loved one can have an unbearable power."

Detailing the story, she continues: “Psamatheus was seduced by the Aequi, the king of the Myrmidons, who ambushed her on the beach. She tried to escape his grip by transforming into a seal but he refused to let go until she relented, giving birth to a son who was given the name of Phocos, "the seal". From a mud of frustration, fear, lack of recognition of the true "self", a black, vulnerable creature emerges, for protection, to survive... to escape from a reality of lies, fleeing, so that the Other finally sees...."

On the composition, RÏCÏNN concludes: "This song has been completely rearranged by the talented Antony Miranda, with his analogue sounds. This experience was incredible, to see a sound springing from old synths! We had a lot of fun! Thanks to my wonderful team: Eran Segal (clean guitars), Antony Miranda (arrangements, bass, e-bow guitars), Sylvain Bouvier (drums), Raphaël Verguin (Cello), Déhà (Mix and Master)."

This follows previous single 'Doris', which features guest vocals from Travis Ryan of Cattle Decapitation.

In a world of appearances, RÏCÏNN was born from the desire to remain true to her instrument, the voice.

As a child, she cooked remedies, formulas, and prayers to serve them to the world. An expression of 'The Now'. Fire & water, whales & birds, sounds emanating from the mist, blown by the windy shore, spitting the scrambling wreckage of a damaged arch, vestige from an ancient and forgotten civilisation, flooded into the oversights of time.

RÏCÏNN appears as the lonely survivor of a pre-post apocalyptic universe, a new world in which she bereaves the loss of her unknown culture.

Nereïd is a concoction of many cultures, assimilated and included with her own language. The experience of an incarnation in the material world, falling into the living, as the nymphs of Poseidon move the ocean, making choices, harmonising the rhythms of nature.

Known for her work as female vocalist for breakcore outfit Igorrr, experimental gothic funeral metal band Öxxö Xööx, and experimental trip-hop unit Corpo-Mente; RÏCÏNN's beautiful, solo work lies in the realm of funeral opera - with nearly all composition, instrumentation, and imagery created by the artist herself.

The result is a celestial dance, moving into unexpected explosions of terror, each sacred in their own right.

UNCUT have deep roots deep in the origins of American rock. The self-produced band from Poitiers were formed in 2016 by Alexy Sertillange (vocals/baritone guitar), Enzo Alfano (guitar) and Pablo Fathi (drums). Their music is a masterful blend of rock aggression and blues riffs, propelled by wild and stylish drums.

Enzo Alfano's expressive guitar playing is a language reminiscent of Rory Gallagher's euphoric flights of fancy.  Pablo Fathi's drums are particularly expressive with a lunatic charm.  These intertwine with Alexy Sertillange’s lyrical stories of independence, self-abandonment and resilience.

But where others my rush into the breach for a moment, UNCUT lay the foundations for lasting potential, with the grain of the glory days of the early 70s, combined with the spice of the best memories of 90s rock.

Indian classical metal two-piece SOARA have released a video for their new single 'Tezaab'. The track is taken from the band's recently released EP Dharm. 

The themes within Dharm explore gender and colour biases, and social injustice prevalent in Asia, Africa and even in developed nations like the UK. 'Tezaab' in particular highlights acid attacks, which are prevalent in several Asian and African countries, often used as a form of revenge. Over 80% of the recorded cases are women and children, often perpetrated by immediate family members, neighbours or other people known to the victim.

SOARA is a two-man project comprised of Akhilesh Rao and Karthik Ramasubramanian, originally from Mumbai and Chennai, India and currently residing in the San Francisco Bay Area. SOARA was formed by Rao in Brooklyn, NY in 2015 as a one-man instrumental project, inspired by his need to make a difference to society using lustrous art, intense imagery and most importantly, decisive action. This was centrefold to the creation of SOARA. 

In Rao's quest to meet this vision, he invited drummer Hannes Grossmann (Blotted Science, Alkaloid, Triptykon, ex-Necrophagist, ex-Obscura) to join the project as a session musician. In 2018, SOARA was armed with ten demos and went into the studio, combining intense, polyrhythmic drumming with ambient, distorted guitars. 

In an effort to deliver an impactful message, national award-winning talent Karthik Ramasubramanian joined in 2019 as the final piece of the SOARA puzzle. With 15-years of training under Carnatic masters, Karthik a.k.a Rkay has collaborated with South Indian Film legends such as Ghibran, and earned praise from Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sudha Raghunathan & S.Sowmya, and the legendary Guitar Prasanna. His idiosyncratic approach of mixing powerful, yet melodic, traditional Indian classical vocals with metal redefined the band's sound, creating a Carnatic metal powerhouse.

SOARA are inspired by the aggression and technical finesse of the likes of Fallujah, Skyharbor, Dream Theater and Megadeth, alongside the complex, melodic nature of Indian Classical music displayed by heavyweights such as Prasanna, Zakir Hussain and A.R Rahman. 

Combining ethereal soundscapes with dense drumming and soulful Carnatic vocals, SOARA's music
seeks to address deep systemic issues prevalent in Eastern cultures, and portray the resilience not often eschewed by the oppressed.

Every vocal harmony, guitar melody, and chaotic drum fill is stylistically chosen with the intention to make the listener experience a range of emotions as the song progresses. 'Tezaab' and EP track 'Niram' were written to reflect the impact of social hierarchy, malicious advertisements, vanity and misplaced egos.

The artwork for SOARA's Dharm EP combines the artwork of 'Tezaab' and 'Niram', which represent a particular mood or emotion. Elements of these covers will also appear in the artwork for the band's upcoming album (due for release in early 2021).

Self-described as a protest-rock project CATALAN! has already started becoming known for his danceable meld of forward-thinking indie, post-rock, and post-punk.

Aiming to spark lively debate around everything from environmental catastrophe to social media deluge, Ewen's stream of consciousness and reference-heavy lyrics are irresistibly melded to a backdrop of infectious rhythms, fizzy guitars, and synthy bass grooves.

A wide range of inspirations informs CATALAN!’s soundworld – elements of world music, post-everything, and even hip-hop. Ewen by day is a touring crewmember for a range of other bands (Frnk Iero, Laura Jane Grace, Thursday, among others) and is also a trained tour guide of his home on the north coast of Ireland. Veritas was written during Ewen's travels around Europe - and a sense of worldly curiosity permeates the record.

CATALAN!'s combined experiences helped shape Veritas, recorded on the remote North Coast of Northern Ireland. As Ewen comments "it took all the touring and travel to write the CATALAN! record, but it took coming home to record it", in an isolated location with no internet, phone signal, or outside contact. It’s a mixture of local history, news, a novel and politics all combined to create a release full of engaging emotive depth – formed via a stream-of-consciousness approach.

Using the stream-of-consciousness, Veritas asks the question: how are we expected to approach the way we consume world news today, given that there’s such a range of it?

CATALAN!’s uniquely engaging approach has already helped turn many heads at the BBC, The Line of Best Fit, supporting Jamie Lenman and And So I Watch You From Afar, among others. Ewen’s also known from his time in local post-hardcore heroes Axis Of.

"'Resurgence (Reimagined)' was born from our curiosity as musicians, and we're very excited to release something completely different from our normal! This new version of the final track from Reclaim was written and recorded by guitarist/vocalist Steven during lockdown earlier this year, originally with no intention of releasing it. The positive response and excitement about the reimagined track from the band, management, and label, motivated us to release this new version of the song, and mark the end of the Reclaim album cycle."

Having unveiled their new and improved sound with stand-alone single 'Golden Age' in 2017, FROM SORROW TO SERENITY followed up with relentless touring - including sold out UK tours with Jinjer and Heart of a Coward respectively - before announcing their signing to Long Branch Records and premiering the first single from Reclaim in February 2018.

FROM SORROW TO SERENITY entered the studio in September 2018 to begin the recording process at their own studio in Glasgow, Scotland. Guitarist and songwriter Steven Jones (also of Bleed From Within) took the helm on recording, production and mixing, with mastering handled by Ermin Hamidovic (Architects, Periphery, Bury Tomorrow) at Systematic Productions in Melbourne, Australia.

Album artwork was painted by James Banks at his studio, also in Glasgow, Scotland, with packaging and layout handled by Daniel Wagner in Los Angeles, California.

Modern metal trio PTEROGLYPH have announced the release of sophomore album, Solaire, set for release on 6th November 2020 via Blood Blast.

PTEROGLYPH are a modern metal band from Leeds, England, formed in 2012 by lead songwriter and frontman Jimmy MacGregor as a solo project. Now with the line-up completed by guitarist Ansley Prothero (JOR and Bludger) and drummer Bradie Nixon (Mishkin, Bludger, Osiah), PTEROGLYPH are set to establish themselves as a vital force in the 2020s.

Solaire is the follow up to their critically acclaimed debut Death of a Prince, which firmly put the band on the metal map. Demand on the live circuit earned them dates with SikTh, Aliases, Evil Scarecrow, Sworn Amongst, Exist Immortal and Beholder, as well as slots at Mammothfest, Wildfire Festival, Bloodstock and UK Tech-Fest.

The majority of recording and production of Solaire was handled by Jimmy MacGregor, with all live drums performed by Bradie Nixon and recorded at Greenmount Studios in Leeds with Lee Smith, who also handled the final mix of the album. The album was mastered by Acle Kahney of TesseracT.

LANDMVRKS formed in 2014 in Marseille, France, and are now comprised of Florent Salfati on vocals, Rudy Purkart on bass guitar, Nicolas Exposito and Paul C. Wilson on guitars, with Kévin D’Agostino on drums.

The band spent two years writing and recording material and playing local shows, building their reputation within the French metalcore scene with a series of singles. In May 2016, LANDMVRKS self-released their debut album Hollow, which was produced entirely by Salfati and Exposito. Following the release of Hollow the band ventured on tours throughout Europe, enticing new fans with their modern metalcore style, peppered with hardcore riffs and catchy choruses. The record also landed them slots on big festivals, strengthening their reputation even further.  
 
In 2018 LANDMVRKS signed a record deal with Arising Empire, releasing their second studio album Fantasy. Continuing to build their name with their own fresh take on metalcore, LANDMVRKS went on to travel the world, playing in Japan, embarking on several headline tours and supporting While She Sleeps and Stray From The Path on a UK/European tour. 

While they were out on the road LANDMVRKS focused on writing brand new material, including latest single 'Rainfall' which showcases a powerful new direction from the French band, one that is more mature, melodic, and deeper than before.

LANDMVRKS recently announced tour dates for 2021, including a UK/European tour with special guests Resolve and Wolfpack.
