Välde is the apocalyptically heavy follow-up to 2019's album Abyssal. Meaning 'Empire' in Swedish, Välde is a darker, bleaker journey than its predecessor, with a further emphasis on the atmospheric nature of the band's sound and the use of dissonance, creating a claustrophobic, dense record that pulverises the senses. Almost uncomfortably bleak at times, echoes of the likes of Ulver and Meshuggah are present on Välde, combining perfectly with HLB's signature blackened groove template for which they have become renowned. An atomic bomb of a record - this is HUMANITY'S LAST BREATH in their coldest, nastiest form.

Led by band mastermind, guitarist and producer Buster Odeholm (Vildjharta, Born of Osiris, Oceano), HLB have proven time and time again to be one of the most fearless, uncompromising, and creative voices in extreme music.

Ihsahn to perform Telemark and Pharos EPs in their entirety for livestream show

Shapeshifting progressive metal pioneer Ihsahn has announced an exclusive set at Munin Live, streaming from his hometown of Notodden on April 4th at 7pm BST (8pm CET).  Once again pushing the boundaries of unconstrained creation, the Norwegian master of the avant-garde will premiere both of his latest critically acclaimed EPs Telemark and Pharos in their entirety, including tracks that have never been performed live before. The set will also include excerpts from Das Seelenbrechen, and feature Einar Solberg from Leprous.

Get your livestream tickets here: https://munin.live/x-event/ihsahn-telemark-pharos/

Having returned to that early black metal sound on Telemark Ihsahn was due to perform at Norway’s Inferno Festival in April 2020, followed by a series of live concerts and festival appearances that would showcase his more extreme work. Cancelled due to the pandemic he says: “We couldn't wait to perform the last EP. I even ordered stage props with David Thiérrée’s illustrations. The plan was to do Telemark shows through the summer and focus in on my black metal roots. And then as a counterpart, I wanted to do a different show based on the more mellow, experimental side of what I do, trying to connect the two forms together.

“For many years I felt that I should do something purely black metal again,” he says, explaining how this eventually led to the abstract basis behind Telemark and Pharos. “However, I would feel very limited by that in the form of an album. And then I would have wanted an outlet for the opposite. I've done the full black metal thing in the past but I'm also not a pop artist. I think it would be hard for me to fill an album within that format. This has been a challenge of limiting myself to a certain expression.

In 2020 Ihsahn released two five-track EPs via Candlelight Records, inspired by and dedicated to his home county of Telemark.

The first, Telemark EP, represents the dark, brutal and aggressive side of Ihsahn’s compositional identity. With three new original songs and two ferocious cover versions, it represents a celebration of the defiant spirit that first inspired him to follow a creative path, forming Emperor, three decades ago.

The second, Pharos EP, is the light to Telemark’s dark, Pharos features three original compositions and two covers. A delicate but true-to-the-original version of ‘Manhattan Skyline’ by Norway’s own pop progenitors A-ha (featuring Leprous frontman Einar Solberg on vocal duties) and the haunting ‘Roads’, originally by British trip-hop collective Portishead. Recorded at his home studio, with additional drums by Tobias Solbakk at Jukes Joint Studio, Pharos is musically and conceptually a reverse image of Telemark.

About Ihsahn

Since 1991 Ihsahn has defied expectations and pushed boundaries. Launching his solo career in 2006 with The Adversary he has sought to maintain the black metal blueprint that he helped devise with the world-shattering Emperor, while mischievously exploring progressive dreamscapes, avant garde jazz, electronica, darkwave, ear-crushing tech-metal and ambient meditations. Each full-length album has had an element of surprise and delight, where the architect plays out his creative vision by building on an unwavering zeal for the shock and awe that keeps his listeners on their toes.

Jinjer enter studio to record their highly anticipated 4th album

Ukrainian modern metal juggernaut Jinjer have proven that they will never lessen their relentless pace and continue to work overtime, earning them the reputation as one of metal’s hardest working bands out there today. With many of their videos cracking the million mark and each of their albums highly praised by critics, scene insiders and fans alike, the band never tires of distributing their mercilessly progressive, heavy metal music to anyone that will listen.

Jinjer have finally entered the studio to start working on their highly anticipated 4th album on Napalm Records. Given the working title #JINJER4 by their fans, the band have been intensively writing new material over the past few months and it promises to be their most visionary and impactful release to date.

Bassist Eugene Abdukhanov commented: “Those of you who keep an eye on us must have already heard that Jinjer have been working on new material pretty much since the beginning of the pandemic. It is one of those situations where even the most negative and terrible predicament can sometimes have a positive outcome. Deprived of live touring, we managed to focus all our creativity and frustration and turn it into new songs which are, in my opinion - the best music we have ever written. It's complex but yet catchy as hell, groovy but with such a palette of notes, sounds and most importantly: feelings... this new album might take the whole genre of extreme music to a whole new level and raise the bar of musicality even higher for this band and the metal scene in general.”

The recording sessions are once again taking place at the Kaska Records Studios in Kiev, Ukraine together with their highly talented and good friend producer Max Morton.

Check out the first studio report here: https://youtu.be/q8fRzxLT2U8

Jinjer have also announced a short album release tour in 14 select cities around Europe, together with Swedish special guests and deathcore brutalists Humanity's Last Breath and French cinematic metallers Hypno5e. This package not only features some of the most cutting edge bands in metal today, it but will also be the first chance to hear brand new Jinjer music live. While their Macro World Tour was suddenly cut short in March 2020, Jinjer did manage to pull off the impossible in September 2020 by doing a short tour of Germany and Switzerland, making them the first Non-European band to cross international borders and successfully tour during the pandemic.

Metalcore quartet This Dying Hour release video for new single 'Cornered'

Metalcore quartet This Dying Hour are back with a sharp new focus and hard-hitting single 'Cornered'. The track, which has already been championed by BBC Music Introducing, is taken from the band's upcoming EP Fire & The Blind, due for release on 9th April 2021.

Blending elements of Slipknot, Trivium and Killswitch Engage, 'Cornered' is about having a split personality and struggles with addiction, written from the perspective of Jesse Pinkman and Walter White from popular TV series Breaking Bad.

Check out the video for 'Cornered' here: https://youtu.be/wUyPa43bnSk

Frontman Gaz Ward comments on the new EP:

"We make the music we love and what we love to hear, because that is what keeps us going and makes us excited about writing and performing. The EP was exactly that, we wrote everything based on how it makes us feel. From the strength to stand and think about your actions and their implications on 'Broken Scars and Silent Voices', to a song that simply makes us want to jump in the pit like 'Fire & The Blind', we hope people will get as much fun out of listening to it as we did writing it."

Formed in 2005, This Dying Hour wanted to leave an impression on their local scene. It was a time when Architects, Sylosis, TesseracT, Bleed From Within and Bury Tomorrow were all breaking ground, who This Dying Hour had the pleasure of supporting across the UK.

In 2007 the band released their debut EP, Longest Memory From The Shortest Life, receiving rave reviews across the board, including Total Guitar Magazine's 'Top 10 Songs of the Year' and Rock Sound (8/10). After completing several UK and European tours, a change in line-up and musical direction in 2010 resulted in a six year hiatus.

In 2016, despite feeling like they were starting all over again, This Dying Hour pushed forward and planned a UK tour. However in 2017, tragedy struck when vocalist Dave Pickup lost his life after a fatal hit and run accident. A year later, tragedy struck again with the passing of founding member Sean Crossey, who sadly lost his battle with cancer. These devastating events took a huge emotional toll on the band, losing friends who they considered as family.

After a phone call in 2020, bassist Nat Douglas and guitarist Ash Whitelock decided it was time to make music again. "It was something that we contemplated for a while but never thought would happen," says Douglas. With ideas flowing back and forth, they recruited two new members, Gaz Ward and Duncan Lee. Although the tragic, untimely passing of Dave Pickup and Sean Crossey was, and still is, never far from the band's mind, the addition of the two new members has kept This Dying Hour loyal to their roots, authentic to their sound and humble to their community.

Now, in 2021, This Dying Hour start as they mean to go on with their hard-hitting new EP, Fire & The Blind.

Hail The Sun stream emotive new single / video 'Made Your Mark'
unnamed (60).jpg

Californian quartet Hail The Sun have released new single / video 'Made Your Mark', taken from their upcoming album, New Age Filth, out 16th April via Rude Records (UK/EU) Equal Vision (NA).

Watch the video to 'Made Your Mark' here: https://youtu.be/2b7g_nPvtzg

Stream 'Made Your Mark' here: http://hts.lnk.to/madeyourmark

'Made Your Mark' shows a softer, yet familiar side of the band, floating through dreamy piano before kicking into the memorable chorus driven by guitars and an emotional vocal delivery.

Speaking on the story behind the track, vocalist/drummer Donovan Melero states: “Lyrically, this song was written to outlive the relationship that it was written about. I wanted the words to hold true, no matter what the outcome, because of how strong of an emotion we felt towards each other. The chorus sums this up. 'Wherever you end up, know that you’ve made your mark. I’m forever lost…forever caught by your moment on earth.’”

'Made Your Mark' follows previous singles 'Domino' and 'Parasitic Cleanse', giving a taste of the expansive and genre-defying sounds found across New Age Filth. Already selling through seven vinyl variants well before release date, the album is set to be a milestone release for Hail The Sun.

Pre-order New Age Filth here: https://hts.lnk.to/newagefilth

When Hail The Sun entered the studio to record what would become New Age Filth, they knew they were setting out to make their most collaborative and diverse album yet. The band, consisting of Donovan Melero (vocals/drums), Aric Garcia (guitar), John Stirrat (bass) and Shane Gann (guitar), spent a month living in an apartment attached to producer Kris Crummett’s studio which provided a much different experience from the creation of prior albums. The result is ten songs that find the band pushing their creative boundaries in every way. They’re heavier and poppier at the same time, proving their ability to be extremely technical in instrumentation while also unleashing some of the catchiest hooks they’ve ever created. The influence from genre-melding predecessors like Coheed and Cambria, At The Drive-In, and even Yes is apparent, but the sound is still very much a natural evolution from Hail The Sun’s past work.

The shifting musical compositions on New Age Filth perfectly accompany the emotive lyrical outpour found across the album. Continuing along the theme of reflection, Melero weaves through painful and emotional experiences of love, cynicism, and touches on how awful humans can be to one another. Set for release on 16th April, New Age Filth is sure to appease Hail The Sun’s powerful fanbase, who have been clamouring for more from the band since the release of 2018’s Mental Knife, and newcomers alike.

US rock/metal titans Pop Evil have debuted new single 'Set Me Free' and announced the release of their highly anticipated sixth full-length album, Versatile, on 21st May via Entertainment One (eOne).

Watch the visualiser for 'Set Me Free' here: https://youtu.be/dfC9pnCLuyI

The release finds the Michigan heavyweights pushing their instantly distinctive sound to uncharted territories, expertly balancing the styles they’ve explored on recent tracks 'Let The Chaos Reign,' 'Work' and 'Breathe Again,' of which the latter two have blasted on to the US Top 10 Rock charts. This success follows their #1 hits 'Waking Lions,' 'Footsteps,' 'Deal with the Devil,' 'Trenches' and 'Torn to Pieces,' which was certified GOLD by the RIAA in 2020.

The new single 'Set Me Free' is a reminder of the band’s ability to be a bastion for perseverance and positivity, and features colossal riffs coupled with a formidable performance from vocalist Leigh Kakaty.

We are very excited to announce our sixth studio album is being released May 21,” announce Pop Evil in a joint statement. Versatile is available for pre-order now! With this launch we are releasing a brand-new track from the album, ‘Set Me Free,’ which embodies the challenging times the world has faced this past year. We are very proud & humbled to see our current single ‘Breathe Again’ trending Top 5 on the Rock Radio charts, and the video being embraced by our fans. We can’t wait for you all to hear the rest of the album, as we feel it's our strongest to date.”

Pre-save / pre-order Versatile here: https://www.popevil-versatile.com

If rock is dead, then Pop Evil are definitive proof of the afterlife. The blue-collar band - which consists of Kakaty alongside lead guitarist Nick Fuelling, rhythm guitarist Dave Grahs, bassist Matt DiRito and drummer Hayley Cramer - have built a new rock n’ roll institution on their foundation of showmanship, raw relatability, and hard rock hooks, both forward-thinking and timeless.

Pop Evil's song writing on Versatile zeros in on their juxtaposition of cinematic melody and heavy, unflinching groove. Deftly mixing fist-pumping anthems and timeless power ballads, Pop Evil deliver their most ambitious rebirth yet with a jaw-dropping and unpredictable album. Versatile sounds exactly like the name suggests; it distils the soaring melodies and driving riffs of Pop Evil’s past and introduces an ambitious exploration of the future.

Beyond the success story told by the charts, the 1 million units of “total activity” across their catalogue, and the over 600 million streams of their songs on major platforms, Pop Evil’s greatest strength is the diverse group of people captivated by the band’s relatable storytelling and undeniable catchiness. These are fans earned, city by city, on tours with a modern rock playlist's worth of genre titans.

Brimming with infectious beats and catchy hooks, ‘Enough Ain’t Enough’ is a message from Siamese to us all, a reminder that although we may have been through some difficult times in this past year, the end is hopefully in sight.

Vocalist Mirza Radonjica comments:

“This track is about our personal frustration concerning the lockdowns. Andreas and I wanted to convey a positive message during a really frustrating period of both of our lives. ‘Enough Ain’t Enough’ is an outlet and a healthy way for us to remind each other, that none of this is forever. We can't wait to live fast and die old when the world returns."

Siamese are rapidly becoming one of Denmark’s hottest musical exports, with their last two singles, 'Can't Force The Love' and 'Home', registering over two million streams on Spotify alone, heavily supported on popular editorial playlists such as New Core and Kickass Metal.

Mongolian Folk Metal Pioneers Nine Treasures Stream New Album, Awakening From Dukkha
unnamed (55).jpg

Original Mongolian Folk Metal group Nine Treasures have released their stellar new 'best of' LP, Awakening From Dukkha.

Premiered via Metal Injection, you can stream and purchase the album here: https://ninetreasures.bandcamp.com/

Vinyl and CD options coming shortly.

Watch their video 'Three Years Old Warrior' here: https://youtu.be/r92in8uDRAk

Few bands can claim to have an identity and sound as remarkable as Nine Treasures. Forming in 2010, one of the original Mongolian Folk Metal bands have one simple goal: to take Mongolian heavy metal worldwide.

Now, a decade on; three albums, millions of streams and several European tours and festival shows (Wacken Open Air, Woodstock Poland) later, Nine Treasures are well on their way, having led a Mongolian metal revolution.

The band are celebrating their journey so far with this new ‘best of’ record, Awakening From Dukkha. Collecting songs from their 3-LP oeuvre, Awakening From Dukkha is both a stellar introduction to a seminal band for the new listener, and a significant recognition of the group’s achievements so far.

A celebration of the past it may be, but for vocalist/guitarist Askhan and his bandmates, this decade-spanning collection is also a rebirth for Nine Treasures:

“Our fans deserve to hear us at our best, which is why we were so motivated to make this album. Now we’ve done that, we just want to keep Nine Treasures going as long as possible, make music that we’re proud of and spread a little positivity… and tour the world again!”

“It’s always been about the music with us,” he says. “When I started this band I had no idea how things worked, and I thought it was all about marketing, promotion and fancy videos, but after 10 years of doing this, I’ve realised that everything revolves around the music itself. That’s why our focus is on making our music as great as it can be – we’re constantly progressing.”

The music Askhan speaks of is a unique combination of old school heavy metal and traditional Mongolian folk, which sees Nine Treasures utilise both conventional vocals and Mongolian throat singing. Likewise, guitars, bass and drums collide with traditional string instruments such as the balalaika and the morin khuur, resulting in a sonic kaleidoscope that follows no set template. Unlike much of contemporary rock and metal, there are no rules when it comes to Nine Treasures, and that makes the quality of the band’s output all the more impressive.

“It’s not as simple as just putting a guitar chord behind some Mongolian melodies,” Askhan explains. “Our music is so much deeper than that. We don’t follow a model, and we work to ensure the two distinct facets of our sound complement one another. I’ve changed the way I play the guitar in order to accommodate the Mongolian elements, and vice-versa. To do this takes a lot of analysis and experimentation.”

Named after a group of objects referenced in ancient Mongolian poems, Nine Treasures’ music touches on the mythology and fairy tales of their homeland, but the band’s songs contain more universal references, too. Having recently begun practicing Buddhism – “It changed my life,” Askhan says – Nine Treasures’ frontman is now intent on using their music to bring comfort and ease the suffering of others. “I want to share the teachings I’ve learned with others like me who have experienced anxiety,” Askhan continues. “We want Nine Treasures to bring some positive energy into the world – the greatest thing we can do with this is to help people.”

Starting with Ojansivu’s thrash metal-inspired guitar riffs, the song builds to a monumental crescendo, with the entire band at full throttle in the chorus.

“We wanted to capture the childlike, adventurous feeling of this song. The lyrics are about friendship and trying to destroy the ”big evil” in a very Star Wars-ey kind of way” vocalist Luoto says.

One Morning Left’s fourth album marks their first new material in five years. On Hyperactive the group begin a whole new chapter in their story, drawing inspiration from retro electronic and video game music, as well as 80's hard rock, while staying true to their heavier roots.

Changes are happening not only in the musical style, but also in their line-up. Returning from the cast of 2016’s Metalcore Superstars are frontman Mika Lahti, singer/guitarist Leevi Luoto and drummer Niko Hyttinen. Additional firepower is provided by new faces Tuukka Ojansivu on guitar and Miska Sipiläinen on bass guitar, as well as the return-to-form of keyboard player Touko Keippilä from the band’s original Panda <3 Penguin line-up.

The album shapes up to be the artistic peak of One Morning Left's musical "blood mountain": epic lyrics carried by Luoto’s soaring vocal melodies, contrasted by the distinctive, gritty sound of Lahti, all accompanied by breathtaking keyboard leads, blisteringly fast guitars, masterful bass riffs and feverish drum parts.

With the release of Hyperactive, One Morning Left look to add to their growing global fanbase. Having gathered extensive live performance experience playing countless shows in Finland, touring mainland Europe, Russia, and the Baltics, as well as Iceland and Japan, the group are planning to take their entertaining and energetic live show on the road in the near future.

The band conclude: "Join us on our quest to make the world a bit more epic!"

Founded in 2008 in Vaasa, Finland, One Morning Left are well known for their unique blend of electro, hardcore and metalcore influences as well as their entertaining and energetic live shows where absolutely anything can happen.
