Scottish Groove metallers From Sorrow To Serenity announce departure of vocalist Gaz King
unnamed (1).jpg

Vocal auditions open now

Vocalist Gaz King has announced he will be leaving the ranks of From Sorrow To Serenity.

The band shared a statement on his departure, commenting: "It is with great sadness we announce the departure of Gaz King from From Sorrow to Serenity. Following five fruitful years together, it has come time for Gaz to leave music behind and start a new life for himself. Given the state of the music industry and society at present, we empathise wholeheartedly, and take solace in the fact that there is no tension between us. We would like to thank Gaz for everything he has done for From Sorrow to Serenity, and we wish him the best going forward."

Gaz has enjoyed many years performing, recording, and laughing alongside band members Stephen, Andrew, and Ian, and his decision has not come lightly. He shares: "FSTS has been my life for the past five years, but now I think it's time I call it a day with music and focus on myself. Ever since joining FSTS, life seemed to go at a million miles an hour. The love and bond I have with these guys is through labours of blood, sweat, and tears, but also love, laughter, and commitment to each other."

He continues: "We've toured with so many amazing bands some we've looked up to as kids and some we've grown up with and developed a bond with. We've been all over the world and have survived countless difficult situations only to laugh about them the next. I'll miss the unique lifestyle for the rest of my days."

Following on from the announcement, From Sorrow To Serenity are now also seeking another vocalist and have released an online sign-up form for the search.

"We are now holding open auditions for our new singer. If you would like to submit an audition - please visit the following link, fill out the form & submit your audio/video audition! Further details and files required for the audition are provided in the form: https://forms.gle/kyuTgKmWKAbjLK7o8."

Having scaled through the ranks since their inception, From Sorrow To Serenity released the highly acclaimed Antithesis EP in November 2013, following with multiple tours and individual shows across the UK, including an appearance at the UK Tech-Metal Fest main stage, as well as shows alongside Chelsea Grin, Veil of Maya, Bleed from Within, Stray From The Path and Heart Of A Coward. Support from every corner of the globe was gained by the release, and the Antithesis EP cycle culminated in the band being chosen by Impericon for their Next Generation Top 30 list.

FSTS entered the studio in January 2015 to record their long awaited debut full length album, Remnant of Humanity, recruiting world renowned producer Will Putney (Suicide Silence, Northlane, Thy Art Is Murder, The Acacia Strain and more) to mix and master the record. The record also featured guest vocal appearances from CJ McMahon (Thy Art Is Murder), Aaron Matts (Betraying The Martyrs) and Scott Kennedy (Bleed From Within).

The band went on to release their second LP Reclaim in 2019, with sold out tours with Jinjer, Heart of a Coward, and Fit For An Autopsy, and followed this with 2021's Trifecta EP.

Sugar Horse release live performance video of 'Phil Spector In Hell' single
SH press shot.jpg

'A sucker punch of sludge-punk' - Knotfest.com

The Live Long After released 27th August via Small Pond Records

Self-described 'decidedly average' Bristol rockers Sugar Horse have streamed a live performance video of their new single, 'Phil Spector In Hell', from their long-awaited debut LP, The Live Long After, to be released 27th August via Small Pond Records.

Watch the video, from Small Pond's Down Time sessions, here: https://youtu.be/ZDCeEqg-eCk

Pre-order The Live Long After here: https://link.smallpondrec.co.uk/sugar-horse

Lyrically based around the fear of the unknown, The Live Long After is a caustic, visceral, and highly engaging listen. From the uneasy opening notes of the introduction 'I Am Not Now' (an anti-hymn based on an ancient Byzantine chant), to 'Live Long' (a doom track about the endless void) and 'Death Cult', (which discusses Aleph, the Japanese doomsday movement), the record is an indication of a band bursting with things to say.

It's not for nothing that Sugar Horse have become known as a nonconformist band. Their previous EPs Druj and Drugs were acclaimed amalgams of doom, hardcore, stoner and punk, and The Live Long After continues this curious trend.

Indications of My Bloody Valentine, Cult of Luna, Deafheaven and Oceansize can be heard throughout the record, but still only touch upon the wide variety of sounds and influences Sugar Horse explore. A band who were due to tour with Black Peaks before the inevitable Covid disruption, and who have toured with Vennart and played ArcTanGent, Sugar Horse have received early praise from Upset Magazine, Metal Hammer, and Kerrang!.

Forming in 2015 as a trio in a flat in Bristol, Sugar Horse fully came into being in 2019 with the addition of Jake Healy on baritone guitar and keyboards. Seeking to break away from emerging trends in their scene, the band's emphasis on simplicity and down-tempo heft belies an impressive sense of self-awareness and maturity. In their own words: "I think the best art is formed when it's creators enforce rigid rules on themselves. Mondrian had geometry, Mark E Smith had his hatred for cigarette taxation and we have a complete disregard for urgency."

Despite what they say about themselves, Sugar Horse are anything but "average."

Ashley Tubb (Vocals/Guitar)
Jake Healy (Baritone Guitar, Keyboards)
Chris Howarth (Bass)

Metal giants Jinjer release second single / video 'Mediator'

Wallflowers album out 27th August via Napalm Records

“JINJER’s most aggressive and melancholy album to date”
- REVOLVER US -

Metal giants Jinjer announce new single / video 'Mediator', streaming now.

'Mediator' is the second single taken from their long-awaited new studio album, Wallflowers, out on 27th August via Napalm Records.

Watch the video for 'Mediator' here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMfqGleETyw

Preorder Wallflowers here: https://napalmrecords.com/english/jinjer

Continuing their unstoppable way to the top, the band has just released their head-splitting
second single 'Mediator' and a brand-new crushing music video. The second track cut from the
new album demonstrates once again that their unique sonic vision combined with visual attitude
is more than peerless. Frenetic drumming combined with technically adept, fast firing bass and
guitar attacks, merging with the unmatched mix of Tatiana Shmayluk’s clear vocals, pungent
rap-like passages and ferocious growling. The track’s high-quality audiovisual bombardment
draws the viewer into the spell of the progressive spectacle and constructs the visual antithesis
of the postmodern utopia thematised within the track.

Jinjer state: “With years getting older, we often realise that the world around us is far from what we expected it to be. Through the eyes of a kid everything seemed way more colourful, better and optimistic, didn't it? When did it all turn wrong? When did it all turn so gray? Is this really the world's fault? Or it is only about us chasing the wrong goals... the wrong careers, ambitions and achievements, rather than embracing one important truth... Rephrasing John Lennon, if one chases something else other than happiness, then they didn't understand life at all …”

Through their relentless hard work, non-stop international touring and critically acclaimed chart-topping releases gaining them over 250 million cross-platform streams/viewsJinjer are inarguably one of modern metal's hottest and most exciting bands today. The band have become synonymous with doing things their own way and breaking every rule in the heavy metal handbook, which is loudly evident on their highly anticipated fourth studio album and the successor to the ground-breaking Macro.

Bassist Eugene Abdukhanov comments: “Growing creatively has always been a major goal for us. The day Jinjer stops reaching for new musical horizons - will be our last day as a band. We could have churned out what our peers expected us to do or produce 'Pisces' clones without end but we’ve never done that and we never will. Instead, we wrote an album whose level of emotions range from the fiercest aggression we’ve ever had, to the most intricate melodies and melancholic vibes you could ever get from our music. We decided to rip apart all possible stylistic boundaries without regard to financial success or competing with our previous albums. Wallflowers is a different kind of album musically and visually. It’s about our identity as a band, as individuals and a clear statement that we are different from most artists … and that it is OK to do your own thing.”

Already regarded as one of the most anticipated metal albums of the year, with Wallflowers, Jinjer once again prove their exceptional knack for mixing groove, prog, alternative and experimental influences to create a sound unlike anything that has ever come before it.

Jinjer - Mediator

Wallflowers not only presents a methodical and premeditated next step in the band's already imposing career, but moreover, it mirrors the personal adversities they’ve faced due to the worldwide events over the last year. Wallflowers is not only an upgrade to the progressive groove metal sound that all Jinjer fans crave, but also a sonic pressure cooker of technical musicianship, emotional fury and an intense soundtrack befitting the harrowing state of the world today. Hailing from the conflict-ridden Ukrainian region of Donetsk but now calling Kiev their home base, Jinjer truly do not mince words – or riffs – on Wallflowers. Their exceptional precision of modern metal paired with tough as nails attitude has earned them a fiercely loyal, rabid fanbase and massive critical acclaim, making Jinjer one of the most talked about bands today and garnering them many sold-out performances across the globe. With nearly all of Jinjer’s releases composed between vans, backstage rooms and constant touring, Wallflowers continues where its predecessor Macro left off, only this time with less distraction and more time to focus on songwriting.

We Are The Ocean release video of acoustic reworking of 'Now & Then'
unnamed.jpg

We Are The Ocean have revealed a new video, an acoustic reworking by vocalist/guitarist Liam Cromby of fan favourite 'Now & Then', taken from the band's second album Go Now And Live.

Watch the video, shot at Middle Farm earlier this year, the site of the album's recording, here: https://youtu.be/dSWqCFvnWm8

2021 marks 10 years since the release of We Are The Ocean's brilliant second album, Go Now And Live. Celebrating the occasion, Go Now And Live had its first ever vinyl release on 30th April via Hassle Records

After instantly selling out, a second pressing has now been announced. Limited to just 500 copies, the second press is a turquoise marble colourway, in a hand-numbered sleeve, and will be released 6th August.

Pre-order Go Now And Live and stream here 'Now & Then' here: https://smarturl.it/WATO_NowAndThen

Featuring long-term fan favourites 'The Waiting Room', 'What It Feels Like' and 'Now & Then', the LP also includes the rare bonus track 'Distances'.

Vocalist/guitarist Liam Cromby has taken this opportunity to look back at the album's initial release, and subsequent impact:

"Before beginning to writeGo Now And Live, we had just released a 4 track EP with some of our most melodic songs so far, 'Lucky Ones' and 'Playing My Heart'. We had also been on the road with bands like Funeral For A Friend, People in Planes, Mayday Parade, Canterbury, Straight Lines - bands that had big, melodic anthems. We also had a new touring crew with us at the time, which brought new music to our ears, listening to bands like The Draft and Hot Water Music. We were also listening to The Police and The Beatles a lot at the time. Inspired and hungry to grow as a band, we fearlessly set out to write our most melodic material so far. Not only were we set on writing big anthems, but we had also matured individually and collectively, and felt the need to write more direct and honest lyrics.

"We were on the road endlessly at the time and so had to take whatever writing opportunities whenever, and wherever, we could . 'What It Feels Like' was the first idea to come through - a song written as a conversation with myself. 'Runaway' was written in the front room of our tour manager's house in Leeds (we stayed there a lot during this time). With Leeds being the home of Slam Dunk, bands from the scene were coming through all the time, most of them staying at this house. We were in the thick of it!

'"Trouble Is Temporary, Time Is Tonic' came a week before heading to the studio. With the material we had so far we knew we had to have a strong opener that would match with the rest of the record, and so came the opening line "I would like to say some things and get them off my chest". We decided to record at Middle Farm Studios; tucked away from the world in the hills of Devonshire, it was a new studio run by producer Peter Miles. Pete had come to a show some months before, where we had an opportunity to chat and share ideas for the upcoming record. It was there that we decided to record with him, and so in the middle of December, snowed in, we began to record our second album,
GNAL. Pete is a musical genius, whom I respected greatly, and studied from the get-go. During the recording process we still had a couple of songs to write, and subsequently it was in the studio that both 'Now and Then' and 'The Waiting Room' came to life. The latter would be an expression of the frustrations of a young man wanting to reach great heights.

Hassle had backed us and put faith in us to write and record a follow up to 'Cutting Our Teeth'. During the first playback session the songs were blasting through the
Hassle office speakers; those guys were as happy as we were at how well the songs had come together in the studio. They were excited and the band was buzzing... we couldn't wait to release the album!

"It would catapult the band into Radio 1 playlists. I'll never forget hearing our songs on Radio 1, it was like the scene from the movie "That thing you do." . It also bagged us a spot on the main stage at Reading and Leeds festivals. An absolute dream come true!

"Recording
Go Now And Liveat Middle Farm Studios is one of my fondest memories, and set us up for the band's most successful years. Forever thankful for Pete Miles, Hassle Records and my bandmates, Dan Brown, Jack Spence, Tommy Moosh and Alfie Scully."

Hassle Records' label boss Wez also took the time to look back at the album's initial release:

“We went into the second We Are The Ocean album excited and nervous at the same time. The first albumCutting Our Teethwas (is!) great. Really good songs from a young band literally cutting their teeth.

"We met with the band at their rehearsal space in Essex a couple of times during the writing process to go through demos and make suggestions about what parts of songs worked well, what worked OK, and what didn’t. The guys in the band were always good at listening and taking onboard what we hoped were constructive thoughts.

"The debut album had done well. The band were on the rise in their scene. It sold well, but it didn’t really make a mark outside of specialist radio and press. The potential tunes we heard on the demos for the second record were a massive step up. It’s what you hope to see in a band; progress and growth.

"Peter Miles produced the album at his excellent Middle Farm studios and a visit to the studio proved to be as satisfying as we hoped. The songs were excellent.

"We collectively decided to put 'Trouble Is Temporary, Time Is Tonic' right at the top of the record as a statement of intent. A hard-hitting song with bollocks and melody, which was the perfect statement for what was to come on rest of the album. And the songs just keep on coming. From first single of the campaign 'What It Feels Like', to the excellent 'The Waiting Room' and onto the classic 'Now & Then'. We felt the band had delivered an amazing album. And Radio 1 in the UK agreed, as they playlisted three of the tracks from the album. Everyone's hard work was starting to pay off.”

Nu-punk rockers Cherie Amour release new single 'Orlando'

Nu-punk rockers Cherie Amour have released their new single, 'Orlando,' out now via Rude Records / Equal Vision Records.

Stream the single 'Orlando' here: https://cherieamour.lnk.to/orlando

Speaking on the song, Miller stated: "‘Orlando’ starts out by painting a visual of walking in on your significant other with someone else. I wanted to show what I think many people have felt, but wouldn’t dare to express on wax. The rapped portion of the song gets emotionally aggressive, and I think that’s what makes it interesting. A simp anthem!"

On 'Orlando', the Baltimore quartet blend an infectious mix of pop-punk and hip-hop, as vocalist Trey Miller flows seamlessly from high-definition choruses to an emotionally-charged rap. The track depicts a conflicted relationship centred around the feeling of being used but still all in for the other person, as the video taps into a futuristic spin of this lyrical story between shots of the band performing. Trey’s deep and honest poetry paired with the band’s dynamic sound makes 'Orlando' an exciting new single that is sure to take people by surprise.

Cherie Amour, Maryland’s nu-punk pioneers, are utilising an exciting opportunity for a fresh start. Previously known as One Life to Lead, Trey Miller (vocals), Casey Reid (guitar), Brendan Willis (guitar) and Ronnie Sherman (drums), felt that their group’s evolving style and sound deserved a name that matched their overall style. This evolved sound, one that steps away from classic pop punk and the idea of being a “Warped Tour Band”, helps clarify the band’s intended direction of carving their own path in the scene.

Timing was on their side given the fact that they solidified their lineup right before the pandemic and ensuing chaos hit. This then made the surprise of producer Alan Day (Four Year Strong) reaching out to the band even sweeter and was “the moment we’ve been waiting for,” according to Trey. After creating many demos during the pandemic, the band headed to the studio with an eagerness to work with Alan.

'Burn', their first single under the new name, was the first track Alan dove into. According to the band, this single “ties together everything we’ve done, whether it be R&B, hip hop or hardcore.” The band’s excitement to share this song first comes from Alan’s magic, in that he really didn’t change much on the original demo aside from the addition of the piano. It perfectly encapsulates what Cherie Amour is all about - “the first few verses are bouncy and danceable, but then you get to the heavy part and you don’t expect it,” describes Ronnie.

After ten years of friendship, Trey and Ronnie decided to officially form the band in 2015. A couple of lineup changes later, Brendan joined in early 2019 after meeting Ronnie through local shows, and Casey rounded out the group by joining in late 2019.

Taking influence from a plethora of artists such as Linkin Park, MGK, Bring Me the Horizon, Don Broco and Dance Gavin Dance, the band expertly concocts new genre-blending recipes per track. The band tossed aside their worries of being pigeon-holed into one particular genre and embraced the self-proclaimed title of nu-punk. The group creates a blend of hip hop, R&B, nu-metal, and punk.

Signs of the Swarm release new single featuring Alex Erian of Despised Icon
SOTSshot1.jpg

Absolvere album out 24th September via Unique Leader

'Hollow Prison' video streaming now

US modern deathcore heavyweights Signs of the Swarm have unveiled new single / video 'Hollow Prison' featuring a guest performance from Alex Erian of Despised Icon. The single is taken from their forthcoming album, Absolvere, out 24th September 2021 via Unique Leader.

Watch the video to 'Hollow Prison' here: https://youtu.be/yVPU2yhmd7k

Pre-order/save Absolvere here: https://orcd.co/absolvere

'Hollow Prison' concisely showcases Signs of the Swarm's talent for inventive brutality and infectious hooks, and serves as the perfect taster for Absolvere.

Vocalist David Simonich commented: “‘Hollow Prison’ is one of our collective favourites on the album. It brings together all the key elements of Signs of the Swarm, while expanding to complement Alex Erian’s vocal style and delivery. That’s not to say this is Despised Icon worship, though all deathcore kind of is in a way, rather we siphon that through what makes us who we are. It’s one of the moshiest songs we have.

“Lyrically, it talks about being captive in our mortal shell, awaiting the inevitability of death as repetition slowly eats us away. Add the cycle of despair to ‘death and taxes.’ It’s a challenge to everyone to break that cycle and transcend disillusionment.”

Alex Erian of Despised Icon commented: “I said yes as soon as I heard the song, and I don’t agree to features often - especially these days. Despised Icon was on a break due to lockdown, things at work were also on hold, and I was spending way too much time home alone. Collaborating on this track with David and the boys was my outlet. I hope you dig it. Signs of the Swarm are the future of deathcore in my book.”

On fourth LP Absolvere, Signs of the Swarm are bleak without being blackened, smashing without being slam, and downtempo as a choice rather than a stylistic confine. They contrast that with some of the most brutal moments in their seven-year career, with riffs more punishing than pensive and a rhythm section that frames them in creatively cacophonic ways. Above it all, they’re utilising vocalist David Simonich's monstrous range in a much fuller capacity than on his debut, 2019’s Vital Deprivation. That transitional album found the band experimenting to re-find their footing. Though the addition of guitarist Jeff Russo could suggest growing pains, they sound more confident than ever with Simonich’s former Improvidence bandmate sliding right in.

Simonich roars about the real (loved ones struggling with addiction, submitting one’s self wholly to art despite negativity swirling about) and the surreal; he or his characters beg for the release of death only to be denied. The album's finishing touch is Ben Duerr (Shadow of Intent) and Alex Erian (Despised Icon) joining the band for guest vocals.

On the album, Bobby Crow continues: Absolvere makes good on the musicality we were striving for on Vital Deprivation and combines it with the eerie atmosphere and brutality on our first two albums. We added a myriad of new sounds, techniques and vocal styles as we collectively composed each song from the ground-up.”

Proven as a major force on the stage, Signs of the Swarm have toured with the likes of Aborted, Lorna Shore, Shadow of Intent, Brand of Sacrifice, Ingested, Disentomb, Traitors and more. US and European tours soon to be announced, more news soon.

Alt-metal/grunge group ΛΔΛΜ release live performance playthrough of 'Sun'

The Sun That Never Comes - Live at MBS Studios via Venerate Industries

Greece's beguiling quintet ΛΔΛΜ (ADAM) have released a full digital play-through of their album Sun. The performance is titled The Sun That Never Comes - Live at MBS Studios, and is the first in a series of band sessions from Venerate Industries.

ΛΔΛΜ are an esoteric and captivating group, straddling the worlds of grunge, post-rock, alternative metal, psychedelic and stoner rock. They return with Sun, released 4th June 2021 via famed local label Venerate Industries.

Sun is an ode to our star as a grey line on the horizon, the hope and anticipation for better days that may never even come and the spiritual liberation through a psychedelic journey between the macrocosm and the microcosm.

A concept album, Sun’s theme of fatal hope can be heard throughout, not least on the apocalyptically weighty, monolithic closer, ‘Phase #3: Eclipse’, the conclusion of a mighty 3-song saga detailing a psychedelic trip. The protagonist of the LP begins the saga in another plane of consciousness, overviewing all the problems in his life, before moving to ‘Phase #2’, defeat with hope and finally returning to earth with ‘Phase #3’.

This trilogy is an encapsulation of ΛΔΛΜ’s approach – wide-ranging, ambitious, unearthly and grounded all at once; the culmination of seven years of writing.

Bearing elements as disparate as Dopelord, Deftones, Kyuss, Paradise Lost, A Perfect Circle, and Soundgarden, ΛΔΛΜ’s new LP was self-produced with Stelios Efendakis (Gardenbox), recorded at the Haus of ΛΔΛΜ, and mixed and mastered at Ritual Studios, Athens. Since Sun’s digital release it has amassed over 300,000 streams worldwide, and will see further success with its physical re-release.

Giannis Fourikis: Guitars / Backing Vocals
Thanos Micropoulos: Keyboards / Slide Guitar / Percussions

On the track, vocalist and guitarist Niklas Karlsson states: “‘Flight Of The Fireflies’ has all the ingredients needed for an Orbit Culture song, but with upgraded muscle in all departments. The riffs, the growls, the chorus, and the twist."

Musing over the EP's overall sound, Niklas continues: "Shaman has that flow to be executed more in a live setting, which was one of the goals creating it. We want to be a band that's able to run around the stage and engage with the audience, rather than standing in one place and sweating over weird guitar patterns. I think that’s the major difference between Nija to Shaman. We want people to be blown away live and the songs on this EP are somewhat constructed for that. Of course, you’ll get what you expect from us; heavy and fast guitars combined with low-tuned drops followed up by singalong choruses with an exotic twist. I think that describes Shaman's overall vibe."

In the deep forests of southern Sweden lies the small town of Eksjö where the band Orbit Culture originate. The idea of Orbit Culture came to vocalist / rhythm guitarist Niklas Karlson in 2013 whilst working on bedroom demos; he quickly formed and early version of the band, which included drummer Markus Bladh.

Citing Metallica and Gojira as their main heavy influences, Orbit Culture are band who love to experiment with wide a range of sounds and textures to create something that is fresh but also familiar. Nikas comments: "As much as we love metal, we love other music, too. We love a good hard-hitting song as much as the next guy, but we've always found that blending and mixing genres seems more fun for us at least, rather than deciding on a specific genre to write within the metal scene. It really helps us to be creative and motivated. I'm guessing that is something that we'll always do."

Quickly after forming, Orbit Culture released a self-produced EP and an LP, but it was summer 2016 when two new members joined the band - Richard Hansson on the lead guitar and Fredrik Lennartsson on the bass guitar - and the quartet perfectly honed their distinctive sound.

With the new line-up in place the band set to work on previous album Nija and in 2019 caught the attention of the Seek and Strike label, who signed them immediately.

For fans of Trivium, Metallica, Gojira and Architects, Orbit Culture are a band from a small town with big ambitions.
