Being As An Ocean's brand new single 'Lost' is the second video/single from the California post-hardcore crew via Out Of Line Music following the single 'Catch The Wind'. 'Lost' has already caught a lot of attention since the October 24th episode of BBC Radio 1‘s Rock Show with Daniel P Carter, which is available to listen back to here.

Being As An Ocean also just announced a bold new chapter for the band, as they’re parting ways with Tyler (guitars) and Ralph (bass). The bands statement below reads:

“Being As An Ocean has always held one thing constant in our time as a band, change. We have always pushed ourselves out of our comfort zones, never afraid to try new things. It is part of what has made us who we are as a band and as people.

That being said, another time of change and growth has come for us. It is with a solemn heart that we inform you all that Tyler and Ralph have chosen to part ways with the band. It has been a beautiful 10 years of music, touring, and doing life together that we will always remember fondly and cherish deeply. We wish them the best in all of their future endeavours. 

Being As An Ocean will carry on. We are as determined, focused, and energised as ever to continue showcasing our passions, lives, and art with any and all who would choose to engage with our band. 'Chasing Shadows' is a nine-minute short film, written and developed by Imminence and Pavel Trebukhin from TRE Film. Another glimpse of band's long-awaited fifth studio album, coming 2022

'Thanks to Kafka' streaming now, video coming soon

One of South America's leading prog groups, the Chilean Aisles, have released their new single 'Thanks to Kafka', out now via the band's own Presagio Records. The song is another glimpse of the band's new studio album, due in 2022.

'Thanks to Kafka' was influenced by the darker side of Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson, with the melancholy of Radiohead. It is also the first single where guitarist Germán Vergara takes the lead, with a nod to Lou Reed, and marks a stylistic shift in relation to the three previously released singles, 'Fast', 'Disobedience' and 'Megalomania'. "'Thanks to Kafka' is totally introspective. It is based on the idea of people who did not find answers to their existential problems or who lost the battle of life,” says the musician. The writer Franz Kafka was the perfect reference to define this internal struggle, because "he speaks from defeat and approaches it from those dark places," says Germán.

The track was recorded at Estudio del Sur, produced by Angelo Marini and Germán Vergara, and mastered by American engineer Randy Merrill (Muse, Paul McCartney, Beck, Liam Gallagher).

The cover was created by designer Jean Pierre Cabañas from Médu1a (winner of the Pulsar Award for Best Art of the Year in 2017) and the video was directed by Loretta Castelletto (Princess Alba, Soulfia, Polima Westcoast). “Both on the cover and in the video we want to pay tribute to Kafka", Germán points out. "In the image, there is that skull with a hole like a person who committed suicide by shooting themselves and the cockroach symbolizing depression; and in the video we want to represent the absurdity and the lack of answers."

The group, formed by Germán Vergara, Israel Gil, Rodrigo Sepúlveda (guitar), Juan Pablo Gaete (keyboard), Felipe Candia (drums) and Daniel Concha (bass), are working on their fifth studio album. The new album moves away from the sonic experiences and concept of the band's previous album Hawaii, to open up a more direct and powerful sound. “We have done a very exhaustive job: we put pressure on ourselves to change our paradigm,” says the producer and guitarist.

A shining example of prog rock's universal reach, the Chilean band, formed more than 15 years ago, have a long and illustrious history. Previously nominated in the Italian Prog Awards, Aisles are the only South American group to be invited to France's Crescendo Festival de Rock Progressif. The band released their fourth studio album Hawaii in 2016, a monumental, immersive, beautiful double-disc journey, reminiscent of Camel, Yes, Rush, Genesis, Marillion and more.

Aisles can lay claim to being South America's most important progressive band of the past two decades. Hawaii was declared a masterpiece and received attention from Prog, NeoProg, iO Pages and many more. An exciting new era awaits.

The band comment on the idea for TENSE: "The inspiration came from remixes off our Coherent EP, which showed us that we could take an already existing idea and morph it into something new to form a different identity. We really enjoyed that notion and wanted to explore it. “Experimental” is a word associated with our band, and that’s at the core of what we do. Our newest EP, TENSE, is an exercise in experimenting with our sound. We focused on creating more string based arrangements with percussive drums. Our attentions focused more on ambient tones, drone, and reverb to create the sound. This concept and the aid of lockdown resulted in the TENSE EP."

TENSE follows closely after July's Coherent EP, which featured two remixes by JESU and Poisonous Birds.

TAYNE's concept originated as a satire on contemporary pop music. With heavier music seeping into the mainstream, TAYNE were formed to try and test the limits of "pop music" ideologies. Heavy, industrial soundscapes serve as a juxtaposition alongside calculated, overproduced sounds and vocals with the classic verse-chorus-verse pop structures.

TAYNE’s music has been described as an aural assault, welding atmospheric vocals, punishing guitars and pulsating electronics to create immersive and intense sounds. The band released their album BREATHE in 2018, with themes exploring self-doubt and insecurities. Since then, TAYNE have gone on to share the stage with the likes of HEALTH and Acid Mothers Temple.

The band's new material was recorded and produced with Wayne Adams of PETBRICK / BIG LAD in his studio in London.

Absolvere album out now via Unique Leader

US modern deathcore heavyweights Signs of the Swarm have unveiled their new video 'Hymns Ov Invocation', taken from their stellar new album Absolvere, out now via Unique Leader.

On fourth LP Absolvere, Signs of the Swarm are bleak without being blackened, smashing without being slam, and downtempo as a choice rather than a stylistic confine. They contrast that with some of the most brutal moments in their seven-year career, with riffs more punishing than pensive and a rhythm section that frames them in creatively cacophonic ways. Above it all, they’re utilising vocalist David Simonich's monstrous range in a much fuller capacity than on his debut, 2019’s Vital Deprivation. That transitional album found the band experimenting to re-find their footing. Though the addition of guitarist Jeff Russo could suggest growing pains, they sound more confident than ever with Simonich’s former Improvidence bandmate sliding right in.

Simonich roars about the real (loved ones struggling with addiction, submitting one’s self wholly to art despite negativity swirling about) and the surreal; he or his characters beg for the release of death only to be denied. The album's finishing touch is Ben Duerr (Shadow of Intent) and Alex Erian (Despised Icon) joining the band for guest vocals.

On the album, Bobby Crow continues: “Absolvere makes good on the musicality we were striving for on Vital Deprivation and combines it with the eerie atmosphere and brutality on our first two albums. We added a myriad of new sounds, techniques and vocal styles as we collectively composed each song from the ground-up.”

Proven as a major force on the stage, Signs of the Swarm have toured with the likes of Aborted, Lorna Shore, Shadow of Intent, Brand of Sacrifice, Ingested, Disentomb, Traitors and more. US and European tours soon to be announced, more news soon.

The Age of the Saucers album out 12th November via Blood Music

French master of cinematic dark synth Hollywood Burns (aka Emeric Levardon) has released new song 'Skylords', along with an accompanying lyric video. The track is the second single to be released in anticipation of his upcoming album The Age of the Saucers, set for release 12th November via Blood Music.

With a video created by Emeric himself, he commented: "'Skylords' is a track about a guy who tries to convince his girlfriend to be abducted by aliens together, because he thinks they’re gods. I'm starting off from the principle that the audience knows if they do that, they will both get killed (or even worse). The music sounds fun and catchy but it’s very ironic in the end. It’s somehow about a very toxic relationship."

French composer Emeric Levardon drew on his experiences making music for TV and films to create a one-of-a-kind project and in 2016, Hollywood Burns was born. Hollywood Burns boldly marries the retro-electro pulse of synthwave with the majesty of film orchestra, applying inspiration from the work of legendary composers John Williams and Bernard Herrmann.

Time out from touring over the pandemic allowed Levardon to complete Hollywood Burns's sophomore saga: The Age of the Saucers. Conceived as a sequel to debut album Invaders, The Age of the Saucers is a heavier and more pessimistic release than its predecessor.

Invaders took the point-of-view of the intruders, telling of their joyful and successful invasion of our planet. The Age of the Saucers takes place several years later on a post-apocalyptic Earth, showcasing a planet decimated by chaos. We enter the point-of-view of the last remaining humans, trying to survive a crumbling world.

The album is marked by more dramatic production with the introduction of darker and sometimes slower tracks, as well as quieter and more melancholic tones. In addition to his science fiction influences, Levardon also takes new, heavier inspiration from Mick Gordon and Crystal Castles. Illustrating a desire to bring new ideas to its universe, Volkor X joins the list of the limited guests to appear, bringing a taste of progressive rock.

The Age of the Saucers opens a door to a new galaxy of adventures more frightening and more dangerous than ever before.
