'Losing Control' is the perfect mix between the heaviness of modern metalcore and the best melodies in classic, heavy rock with a catchy chorus and a powerful production. The song is about when anxiety becomes so unbearable that you don't feel comfortable in your own skin, as the band explain: “It's about that struggle of not feeling in control, but also how the only person that can control your mind is yourself. It's a battle that's sometimes very hard to fight, but the song aims to capture that moment in time when you're trying to talk yourself down.”

Swedish saviours of heavy metal HAMMERFALL let the hammer strike again with their twelfth studio album, Hammer of Dawn, set to be released on 25th February via Napalm Records. Oscar Dronjak comments on the single: “The song itself was initially conceived in Germany during the World Dominion tour, with the rest of the work being done at home. I immediately knew this had the potential to be something important, and when Joacim added his vocal melodies we both felt it would be the perfect single. One with substance and power but also one you can’t stop singing when the music fades out."

Joacim Cans comments on the video: “We already had the idea to shoot a video at legendary amusement park Liseberg 20 years ago. But like any good bottle of Champagne this idea needed to rest and mature before taken into action. And F*CK I am happy we waited!

"Together with director Patric Ullaeus we have created something unique and astonishing that totally blows me away every time I watch it. You can really tell that we haven’t played together for almost two long and never-ending years. The atmosphere in the studio was relaxed and laid back and the lack of stress created the perfect working environment for turning up the heat when the red light came on. It was easy to peak when you had to since there was no outside distractions or immediate deadlines. This album is a product of the pandemic in some ways, but more importantly it’s a strong statement that we are experiencing the high point in our creativity at the moment. Hammer of Dawn starts off with remarkable opener 'Brotherhood', a hymn echoing the deep connection of bandleaders Joacim Cans and Oscar Dronjak with their loyal Templars of Steel worldwide. Other tracks on the album present one smasher after another, with songs like 'Reveries', 'No Son Of Odin' and 'Venerate Me' - the latter featuring an appearance by none other than King Diamond - making sure it will go down as another milestone in the career of the Swedes.

Hammer of Dawn was produced by long-time collaborator Fredrik Nordström (In Flames, Opeth), who handled mixing, mastering, drum recording, and shared the duty of recording guitars and bass with Pontus Norgren and Oscar Dronjak. Jacob Hansen (Volbeat), produced the lead vocals.

When HAMMERFALL released their debut album, Glory To The Brave, in 1997, it signalled the second coming of heavy metal. Since that very day, HAMMERFALL have proudly flown the heavy metal flag high and while doing so have influenced a generation of musicians. They have also left a twenty-five year long trail of classic timeless music, sold-out shows and an army of loyal fans, aka the Templars Of Steel, in their wake. Rest assured everyone, that legacy continues and in fact strengthens with the arrival of Hammer of Dawn.

Fans can already look forward to seeing Hammer of Dawn live, as in 2022, HAMMERFALL will go on an extensive co-headlining tour through Europe, together with German metal stars Helloween.

On the new single, vocalist Julius Vetämäjärvi states: "'Dead Standing Tree’ is a tenacious beast of a song, which is full of symptoms and consequences of living on the edge and making poor choices in life. The song tells a story about driving it all to the absolute maximum limit, but still being ready as ever to take it all one step further just to see what rock bottom feels like, because what else could one do?

"The first step to this song was the groovy and spiteful riffs and rhythms, but it ended up being surprisingly versatile with the beautiful melodies of the chorus and ominous synths and small details in the breakdown parts. It’s an amazing track to play live!”

This is the second single from I Am Your God’s upcoming sophomore album, expected to be released in late 2022.

I Am Your God hail from Finland's northernmost province and combine melodies and heavy riffs in the same way the Nordic countries are most famous for, transferring the melodic death metal of the 2000s into the present. It is the energy as well as the pure ability of this band that makes them stand out from the mass of newcomers and gives hope for a great future.

Since 2018, I Am Your God have been constantly working on their music and their career, shaping their anger and emotions into first-class, catchy, yet heavy songs that radiate nothing short of power. On the new single, Karybdis state:

"Our second single 'Kronos' fuses elements of our classic melodic death metal sound with bold, classical orchestration. Inspired by the Greek god of time, haunting string sections interweave with crushing riffs to create a song as heavy as it is beautiful. We couldn’t be happier with how this one came together and we can’t wait for you all to hear it."

With three critically acclaimed albums and over a decade of activity, Karybdis are one of London’s most enduring underground acts. Supporting the likes of The Black Dahlia Murder, Jinjer, Evile and Monuments, as well as festival appearances at Bloodstock and UK Tech Fest, the quartet have consistently demonstrated a passion for melodic death metal, paired with an aggressive live show.

Following the departure of lead guitarist Matthew Lowry, Karybdis recruited long-time collaborator and Norfolk noise-terrorist Dave Klussmann (Deities, Nervewrecker) and set about work on an ambitious new project.

Conceived as a concept EP based around Gustav Holst’s The Planets suite, Order & Chaos explores classical themes and melodies reimagined through a modern lens. Drummer/composer Mitch McGugan explains:

"We have always been fascinated by learning more about the cosmos. After watching The Planets in Concert with Brian Cox, a programme that interspersed the famous collection of pieces by Gustav Holst with Brian Cox explaining how our understanding of the planets has changed in the last 100 years, it made me want to experiment with some of the motifs and see if they would work in a completely different genre of music. Karybdis have always used strings as part of our sound, but we really wanted to push the boat out and utilise not only a multitude of strings, but a choir and a brass section as well."

As guitar riffs began to blend with orchestral arrangements, it became clear that vocalist Rich O’Donnell would have to stretch himself to keep up:

"I’ve really tried to push myself on this EP and tried to explore some of the melodic undertones of my voice. While I’m still striving to be as heavy as possible, there’s certain moments that required me to scale things back and think about how I can work with the choir and string parts to create something truly unique."

As the EP began to take shape it had become evident that the best choice to helm production was new guitarist Dave Klussmann, who has previously worked with the likes of Oceano, Enterprise Earth, Chiasmata and Fraktions.

Dave states: "When they approached me to join the band, I was equally excited by the prospect of producing as I was by writing and performing. This was a somewhat daunting task, due to the lineage of excellent guitarists and producers who have worked with the band in the past, but I feel I have achieved my goal of crafting a sound that encompasses the established vibes of previous material, while adding new twists and progressing the sound of the band to new heights."

Of the track, Kubrick says: “I have fallen into pain and loss throughout my life… This song is an account of that experience".

Kubrick has been performing and composing his music in various guises for over a decade. A child of two opera singers, and grandson of the globally-famous film director that bears his name, Kubrick was constantly surrounded by creative influences.

Kubrick's favourite artists and composers are those who created music depicting their experiences of pain and loss, as well as horror and sci-fi soundtracks. Kubrick himself is no stranger to tragedy, losing his mother at a young age and subsequently his close friend and fellow bandmember in Shields.

“Whilst the trauma of these losses is something I wish I could erase,” states Kubrick, "the perspective I gained from those experiences helped me leaps and bounds in my ability to empathise with others. As well as lay a foundation for the type of music I now enjoy to create”.

Kubrick strives to release the most authentic and unforgivingly personal songs which his audience can also interpret in a multitude of ways. Driving his sound is his unique cocktail of growling guitars and cinematic synthesizers which blend seamlessly with his multi-varied vocal styles. Elements of artists as varied as Bring Me The Horizon, Billie Eilish, The Weeknd, and Linkin Park all can be heard from this truly talented new force.

As Kubrick emphasises, “I don’t think I will ever just stick to one “sound” or “genre” as my taste is continually evolving. My songwriting will never be dictated by what people want to hear, or what’s trending at any particular point. The plan is just to be unforgivably myself."

Irish alt.stoner trio The Last Vinci have revealed their new single 'Glitter Slaughterhouse'.

The Last Vinci, from Cork, Ireland, are led by Alex Vinci. Despite the pandemic impacting all music-makers across the globe, The Last Vinci have been working nonstop since the beginning of 2020.

'Glitter Slaughterhouse' is the second glimpse of the band's new material, having entered the studio in April 2021 with Liverpool producer Tom Peters (Alpha Male Tea Party, Bicurious, God Alone). The track captures the paradoxes and paralysing fears of modern life. Being chained to your certainties, being safe but unhappy - this is living in a glitter slaughterhouse.

The Last Vinci and Alex Vinci are well-known for their punishing low frequencies through a three amps set-up and their “give-all-you-have” energetic attitude, larger-then-life stage presence.

Their debut self-titled album was released in 2014, and swiftly followed by The Last Vinci - Live from the Studio, a full live performance recorded at Station Studios, Dublin. The albums were supported by an extensive tour around Ireland, Italy, the UK, Switzerland, and Eastern Europe.

The Last Vinci then released their 2019 EP The World, Enda Kenny, the Devil, the Vegans and all the Millennials shit on Narrow Door Records, again successfully touring across Europe. Aiming to immediately return to the studio, the band's plans were interrupted by the pandemic. Not content to rest, The Last Vinci ended up building The Narrow Studio, a space that became key to working on their new material throughout Covid-19.

Members of New Habits have variously dealt with depressive episodes, existential crisis, drug dependence, anxiety, family bereavement and relapse - all events that could easily lead to nihilism and cynicism. Instead, the band focuses on overturning and overcoming these moments - an attitude that will surely resonate with fans.
