Swiss progressive death metal quintet Kassogtha reveal new single, 'Before I Vanish'

Credit: David D'Agostini

Swiss progressive death metallers Kassogtha have revealed their stunning new single 'Before I Vanish'. 'Before I Vanish' is the second glimpse of new material from the quintet's forthcoming album rEvolve, released Autumn 2022.

Stream 'Before I Vanish' here: https://found.ee/kassogtha

Kassogtha are led by vocalist-lyricist Stephany, whose incredible command of growled and clean vocals help mark the band as future Swiss heavy music stars. A concept album, rEolve tells the story of an endless self-destructive cycle of fear, anxiety, and jealousy. In a world that normalises negativity, we have forgotten how to be happy — and following a pandemic-enforced long, hard look at humanity and society, this is Stephany’s journey of dealing with these emotions. This album is a perfectly timed release valve for two years of isolation, anxiety and grief — a furious expression of frustration at missing the things we love that help us get through difficult times.

Of 'Before I Vanish', Stephany comments: “Have you ever wished that you could go back in the past and tell your “old-self” not to worry, that everything is going to be fine?

"This is the story of 'Before I Vanish': a deaf dialogue between two characters representing the same person in two different timelines. One is suffering and begging for help, the other desperately tries to reach her to show her how it will all end.

"In the end, 'Before I Vanish' tells us that we can never know exactly where we will end up, but we always know where we came from.”

Kassogtha band place authenticity and sincerity above smoke and mirrors: a genuine metal band for true metal fans, that takes the genre further without abandoning its core ingredients. From Pink Floyd to Gojira via way of The Agonist and Arch Enemy, Kassogtha’s no-nonsense brand of groovy progressive death metal combines a variety of influences to create a steamrolling fusion of irresistible riffs, neck-breaking drums and a vocal range covering devastating growls and ethereal melodies.

On rEvolve, produced at Stockholm’s legendary Fascination Street Studios with David Castillo (Carcass, Opeth, Leprous), Linus Corneliusson (Ihsahn, Amorphis) and Tony Lindgren (Carcass, Opeth, Katatonia), Kassogtha showcase old school riffs and progressive inspiration, savage grooves and blast beats, creativity and speed, and pure, honest dedication to their craft.

rEolve will be released on Klang Machine Records, the newly-formed heavy music label co-founded by Swiss metal wizard Merlin Sutter (Cellar Darling, ex-Eluveitie).

All-star quintet Imonolith release single and announce new album

All-star modern metal band Imonolith have released new single / video ‘The Lesson’, taken from new album Progressions, set for release on 20th May.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/XoHs7oJtPdk

Stream / purchase here: https://linktr.ee/imonolith

The single follows 'The Reign' featuring Jens Kidman, which also appears on Progressions. Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/tCrNeoLo6lo

Drummer Ryan Van Poederooyen commented: “'The Lesson' is the 2nd song Jon Howard and I wrote for the Progressions album. Jon came up with the intro of the song and sent it to me. From the first moment I heard the intro, I was inspired and knew this was going to be a progression in song writing for Imonolith. The end result turned out amazing, hence the reason it’s going to be our main single and video release for the album. 'The Lesson’ is a deep song musically and lyrically. It’s heavy in parts, and entrancing in others. It’s a journey to listen to. The lyrics are about a personal battle with empathy and being overly empathetic to a fault. We’re stoked on how this song turned out and can’t wait for everyone to hear it!"

Now, with Imonolith digging their claws firmly into 2022, the band returns with their follow-up record, Progressions. Progressions started out as a five-song EP, and then grew into a full album's worth of material. The name 'Progressions' fits in with the band's sound, having changed and developed in many ways. To show how the band have progressed from their early demo days in 2015 up to their current sound in 2022, the record features brand new tracks as well as demos of their older material. Becoming more versatile and, at times, more progressive in playing style, song writing and musical direction, Progressions covers the musical history of who Imonolith were, up to who they've become today.

“We’ve all had professional careers and played in different groups for a long time,” says Ryan. “We’re drawing on all of that experience to do something new. When you think of a monolith, you think of a grand and solid structure. It resembles what we want the band to be, while making it an intriguing experience.”

Imonolith are pleased to announce new members . They replace Brian Waddell and Scott Whalen who have both decided to step down from touring.

Featuring drummer Ryan Van Poederooyen (Devin Townsend Project), vocalist Jon Howard (Threat Signal), guitarist Kai Huppunen (Methods of Mayhem, Noise Therapy) & Oswin Wong (Threat Signal) and Conan Freeman (Punchdrunk) on bass, Imonolith are a collective of heavy-hitting players at the top of their game. Their 2020 debut album State of Being features special guest appearances from Jens Kidman (Meshuggah) and famed Swedish vocalist Johannes Eckerström and is made up of 10 hook-laden, riff-heavy tracks that centre around the theme of how people deal with various stages of life.

With extensive touring commencing January 2023, you'll be hearing a lot more from this ferocious new act very soon.

Future Palace release video for new single 'Defeating Gravity'

New album Run out 10th June 2022 via Arising Empire

German post-hardcore trio Future Palace have released a video for their new single 'Defeating Gravity', a sonic blend of emo and post-hardcore, melody and brute force, impetus and vulnerability. The track is another glimpse into their upcoming sophomore album Run, due for release on 10th June 2022 via Arising Empire.

Check out the video for 'Defeating Gravity' here: https://youtu.be/4CwfRqRl6a0

Pre-order Run in various formats here: https://futurepalace.lnk.to/run

Knowing when something is no longer possible: For many years, the number of people suffering from burnout or depression has been steadily increasing in Germany. The speed of life seems to be getting faster and faster. This makes some all the more reluctant to show weakness. Therefore, it seems more appropriate than ever, that Future Palace wrote a song about accepting one's own weaknesses in the face of this zeitgeist.

Vocalist Maria comments:

"As the name of the single suggests, 'Defeating Gravity' is about wanting to defeat something that seems invincible. So often life takes you to the edge of the abyss, but you try never to fall. Too often, in your stubbornness and ignorance, you forget that you are only human. 'Defeating Gravity' focuses on accepting your own limitations and weaknesses after you've pushed them aside for too long."

For the first time, Future Palace collaborated with Peter Leukhardt (Annisokay, Beyond The Black and Rising Insane) to record the music video for 'Defeating Gravity'. The video was shot in the hall of the band's rehearsal house, capturing Maria levitating over a truss. Analogous to the song title, sometimes it's good to be above things.

One of the most aspiring post-hardcore acts in Germany, Future Palace signed to Arising Empire to release their debut album Escape in 2020, which garnered several million streams across streaming platforms.

Future Palace's sophomore album Run was produced by Julian Breucker (Beyond The Black) and mixed/mastered by Annisokay guitarist Christoph Wieczorek. Run explores the fight with one's own demons, the aftermath of a toxic relationship, and how the struggle with your own salvation is only the beginning, even after escaping from a dramatic situation. Blending the rawness of Holding Absence, Spiritbox and While She Sleeps with the irresistible, sweeping sounds of Bring Me The Horizon and PVRIS, the visually stunning and vulnerable record sets these painful processes to atmospheric post-hardcore, portraying the ups and downs of emotion.

Future Palace are currently on their first ever headline tour across Germany, before embarking on two massive European tours with Annisokay in May and Battle Beast in August and September. Full dates here: https://future-palace.com/#tourdates

Extreme tech-metal titans MONASTERIES release new single 'Lilac'

'Lilac' streaming now via Seek & Strike

Extreme tech-metal titans MONASTERIES have released their blistering new single 'Lilac', streaming now via Seek & Strike. The track is the first glimpse of new material to be shared since the release of their third EP, Silence.

Watch the video to 'Lilac' here: https://youtu.be/9rJlGKwrdtM

Vocalist Josh Davies states: MONASTERIES are a band that has always brought forth the most chaotic and erratic songs, with schizophrenic tempo changes that leave you wanting more. ‘Lilac’ continues in that vein and further shows our organic evolution as a band and songwriters.

“After our last EP,
Silence, we quickly began planning out what the next step for the band would be, but we didn’t want to just dive into a big album roll-out. Instead, we created the hard-hitting track ‘Lilac,’ which perfectly bridges the gap between Silence and our next full-length effort. It’s for fans of ’The Amygdala Chorus,’ as we stay true to our "sound" continuing to deliver unabashed aggression and heaviness, while keeping you on the edge of your seat. We continue to create, plan and write non-stop and 'Lilac’ is just a tease of what is yet to come. We hope you enjoy it and see you on the road!"

Conjurer release new single, 'Rot'

Credit: Joe Guppy

Páthos LP due 1st July via Nuclear Blast

The future of British metal lies in safe hands with Conjurer, who deliver their breath-taking new single 'Rot', taken from their long-awaited new album Páthos, which will be released 1st July via Nuclear Blast.

'Rot' is a tortured, battered listening experience; a blistering reminder of why the young group have become praised so quickly. That a band can be at once so triumphantly beautiful and gut-punchingly heavy is testament to Conjurer’s quality, and a sure-fire sign of their future longevity at the top of Britain’s heavy music scene.

The band comment: "Rot looks at the same topics of anxiety, fear, and depression that feature in 'It Dwells' and flips the perspective/narrative. We wanted to hone in on the most visceral and disgusting parts of our sound when we were writing it and, along with the lyrics, play with the idea of giving that fear and dread a voice. (It's not very nice.)"

You can watch the powerful and unsettling music video for 'Rot' here: https://youtu.be/nQy90xn-zvE

Pre-order Páthos and stream 'Rot' here: https://conjurer.bfan.link/it-dwells.ema

A triumphant return from Conjurer following their world-renowned 2018 debut Mire, Páthos demonstrates a band flexing their creative muscles, deepening their approach and thought, and expanding their sound.

Páthos is not an album for the half-hearted or faint-hearted. Elements of Sumac, Gojira, old Mastodon and Oathbreaker, the new record is a multi-layered beast – sludge, death, doom, black metal and hardcore influences clash and collide throughout, all masterfully finished by Will Putney’s exquisite mix and master.

The fifty-minute runtime of Páthos is not without its moments of the sublime, with post-metal nods to Conjurer and Pijn’s acclaimed Curse These Metal Hands project throughout.

Conjurer’s debut full-length Mire (2018) was released to a storm of attention from across the metal world, garnering significant acclaim from Metal Hammer UK, Kerrang!, BBC R1, NME, Visions Mag (DE), MetalSucks, Metal Injection, Loudwire and many more. Recipients of award nominations (Kerrang!, Heavy Music Awards, Metal Hammer’s Golden Gods) and countless albums of the year lists, Mire is a stunning listen, capturing the attitude of a young band who already know exactly who they are.

Hailed as one of the metal world’s most devastating, thrilling experiences, Conjurer are a band never content to rest. Following Mire’s release in 2018 the quartet soon toured Europe for the first time, appeared at multiple UK festivals, and support of doom titans Conan and Will Haven.

In the following years the band have toured the US twice, supporting Rivers of Nihil (stopping to record an Audiotree session along the way), and then Voivod, with Revocation. 2019 also saw Conjurer’s debut Download Festival appearance, thrilling a packed-out Dogtooth stage, and the release of the joyous collaborative project with Pijn, titled Curse These Metal Hands.

It was only at the end of 2019 that Conjurer closed out their triumphant Mire cycle, with a sold-out UK run – their debut headline tour. Using the COVID-19 pandemic to record and craft Páthos, Conjurer returned to the live setting performing at the Download Pilot 2021 and Bloodstock 2021 mainstages.

blacktoothed release video for new single 'So Real'

New album JULI due for release 29th July 2022 via Arising Empire

German rock quartet blacktoothed have released a video for their new single 'So Real'. The track is taken from the band's upcoming album JULI, due for release on 29th July 2022 via Arising Empire.

Check out the video for 'So Real' here: https://youtu.be/T3d27bymIkk

Pre-order/pre-save JULI here: https://arisingempire.com/juli

A playful guitar-based piece, 'So Real' is a classic blacktoothed song. Packed with personal and emotional lyrics, the bluesy verses contrast with the catchy chorus hook. As drummer David states, "even triplet parts can stay damn well in your head.”

"Also, this song changed a lot in the writing process which makes it really special to us. Every little detail ended up in the song, because we chose it out of all the options we had,” vocalist Hendrik adds.

Produced by Annisokay guitarist Cristoph Wieczorek and Julian Breucker at Sawdust Recordings studio, JULI is blacktoothed narrowing their style. “Recording JULI was a funny three-way experience, involving three different recording sessions over the course of two years, changing band members, finally getting the flow in our songwriting process and, of course, lots of bad jokes and food with our producing team (cheers!) - to sum it up, we might finally know what we are doing musically,” David, Matti and Hendrik recall.

“With JULI, our main concern is to create awareness that we carry a lot of potential to change the lives of our loved ones for the worse, but at the same time recognise how we might be able to help those affected.”

blacktoothed stand out from the crowd, combining an array of stylistic elements from a variety of genres. JULI is characterised by the band's unique combination of striking rock, filigree guitar work and catchy pop-hooks, with a hint of 80's inspiration.

Despite the inspiring and motivating times during their songwriting and recording process, blacktoothed long to be back on stage, as soon as the global pandemic allows. The band have previously performed at Impericon Festival and shared stages with Annisokay, Bad Omens, Hands Like Houses, Polaris, Thundermother, Acres and many more.

Blackened death metallers The Dark Alamorté release new single 'Tusk In The Abyss'

Lunacrium Thepsis out 20th May via Unique Leader Records

Blackened-death metallers The Dark Alamorté have released their new single 'Tusk In The Abyss'. The track is the third to be released from their upcoming record Lunacrium Thepsis, since signing to Unique Leader RecordsLunacrium Thepsis, a crushing mix of ambient death metal, fusing bleak and melancholic atmospherics with a dense wave of brutality, will be released on 20th May.

Watch 'Tusk In The Abyss' here: https://youtu.be/xVEcTZzxeN8
Pre-order Lunacrium Thepsis here: https://orcd.co/lunacriumthepsis

The Dark Alamorté are defined as pluralised entities that are half dead beings, who act as an augur of divine prophecy. Lunacrium Thepsis is the beginning of a saga series, produced through literary, musical, and personal art forms. The term loosely translates to "a freezing state in the presence of moonlight".

Commenting on the upcoming album, the band state:

"The album is told in both first and third person, creating a journey that interlaces vulnerability and aggression, coated as weakness and strength in its rawest form. Surrender the mortal self and walk alongside the main character. Our tale begins within the black shadows of Realm Vekrifinor during the First Age of Brinic. Life after the great battle War Blazar was known as The Trial of Black Mourning. Before the great battle dwelled an entity beyond the thorn gate, far beyond the black end. No value of life existed; laid in the slumber of abhorrence. An underlying purpose of a lifeline born to have meaning - or none at all."

Each track tells a chapter of how the main character reaches Lunacrium Thepsis, who many believe is the path to salvation. Will our hero follow the path to glory? Or will he succumb to the ferocious fear and inadequacy of the ill-fated mortal? This stoic and impassive chronicle introduces suspense, eagerness, violence, and wonder in a world with a fractured beginning. Caught in the crossfire with a life of torment.

Traversing the realms of a genre that has been rehashed and redesigned many times, The Dark Alamorté confronts black metal's conventional soundscape by weaving in their own brand of ambience and death metal. An ethereal avalanche that threaten to consume you as ghostly melodies carry the listener away on a wave of dissonant bliss. Accompanied with unrelenting drums and devastating vocals, The Dark Alamorté will leave you with a haunting memory.

UK thrash / hardcore outfit Cage Fight stream enraging new single 'Killer' with palm tattoo video

UK tours with Sepultura and Cro-Mags; Radar, Uprising and Bloodstock fests announced

Self-titled album due for release 13th May via Candlelight Records

Hardcore / thrash / crossover band, Cage Fight, have released their enraging new single, 'Killer'. The track is the third to be taken from their upcoming debut album, Cage Fight, due for release 13th May on the Candlelight label.

Check out the music video for ‘Killer’ here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZayZQFcMQEc
Stream 'Killer' here: https://CageFight.lnk.to/CageFight

Pre-save the album here: https://presave.umusic.com/cage-fight

On the new track, bassist Jon Reid explains:
"'Killer' is a release of anger and fury directed at anyone that has caused wrong and is a rallying cry to those that feel pure visceral rage and need a soundtrack to that pure emotion. The song's intensity is based on a simple remit, if you have wronged... you better start running."

One of the most furious hardcore records to emerge from the UK in years, the anger and frustration of Cage Fight’s self-titled debut album is the perfect catharsis for our times.

Rachel comments: “I cherish the ability to channel my anger through this outlet. In a world full of uncertainty and frustration, this type of music was the only thing I found solace and balance in. These songs have a deep meaning for me and I hope this is something that other people can relate to.”

Bassist Jon Reid adds: “In the wake of the greatest media heist in modern British times and the fall out of the cataclysmic debacle that is Brexit, it seemed the perfect stimulus to write lyrics that confronted the continued world of systemic racism, cultural divide and an antiquated class system wrapped up with personal mental health issues and the challenges of modern living”

The album’s artwork – a grabbing hand with the Cage Fight logo tattooed on the palm - visually portrays the violent rage at the core of the band’s music. Legitimately tattooed by Rachel, a tattoo artist by trade, the process of creating the image is as impactful as the final artwork itself. She explains:

"I wanted to create artwork that represents pain, anger, resilience and power – themes of our music. The palm is extremely painful to tattoo, so the palm-tattooed hand clawing the air in a red mist does this very aggressively. I tattooed a very brave model at Evil From The Needle in Camden; the hand had to be strapped down, and it took two tortuous hours."

Maxim Mental announces new album & shares new single 'Girl's The Truth'

Make Team Presents Maxim Mental in Maximalism out 8th July via Dine Alone Records

Solo project of Say Anything's Max Bemis

Maxim Mental, the solo project of Say Anything’s Max Bemis, has announced his new album Make Team Presents Maxim Mental in Maximalism, due for release on 8th July 2022 via Dine Alone Records. The record was co-written and produced by Grammy-nominated producer Will Yip (Code Orange, Title Fight, Turnstile) who is also a long-time collaborator of Bemis.

Today, Maxim Mental has also released a new single, 'Girl's The Truth'. Bemis comments: "I'm looking at my daughter, she's definitely smarter than me, and she's wiped food all over her face. Some kind of, probably bodily fluid, but she's still smarter, and so this song is about how I'm glad to be eclipsed by my kids and everyone else who knows better than me. And it gives me purpose in waking up in the morning, not for myself, but for them, and that pretty much defines this second half of my life."

Check out 'Girl's The Truth' here: https://maximmentalstream.com/GTT

'Girl's The Truth' follows the project’s debut track 'Evermore (and the Grammy goes to)', which was written during a period of time when Bemis’ wife Sherri Dupree-Bemis was struggling with a year-long battle with postpartum depression. Check out 'Evermore (and the Grammy goes to)' here: https://youtu.be/iPvhVSQ9i9E

Say Anything was, despite its place in a genre known for sincerity, somewhat of a satire of the quintessential emo band. Bemis being the Andy Kaufman of it all was enough to delight and confuse an entire generation as to whether he was a “real boy” or Ziggy Stardust infused with Curb Your Enthusiasm and the Vagrant Records discography. The final Say Anything LP was written from the point of Oliver Appropriate, a personification of this intentionally confused public persona; his death during climactic 'Sediment' echoed the end of an era for the band itself. When ready to recover from twenty years of trauma making music, Max’s answer was more natural than that of the obvious invented "characters" of Bowie and other musicians to escape pigeon holes; with Maxim Mental, for the first time, Max had to be solely himself.

Bemis will embark on a US tour across July and August. Throughout the tour, he will perform music across Say Anything's discography, as well as new music from Maxim Mental.

Maxim Mental tour dates:

July 7 - Washington, DC @ Union Stage
July 8 - Philadelphia, PA @ Foundry at The Fillmore
July 9 - New York City, NY @ Bowery Ballroom
