Armor for Sleep have revealed their latest single, 'Whatever, Who Cares', taken from their upcoming album The Rain Museum. The new album comes as the band's first piece of new music in 15 years, due for release 9th September via Rude Records (UK/EU) and Equal Vision Records (ROW).

It’s been almost 20 years since the release of Armor For Sleep’s previous full-length, What To Do When You Are Dead. Now, with latest track 'Whatever, Who Cares', vocalist Ben Jorgensen explains:

“'Whatever, Who Cares' is a song about coming to grips with the fact that certain wounds are inescapably self-inflicted. But instead of this being a song about having the strength to overcome these truths, this song is about the moments where just accepting the absurdity of it all seems like the least painful route to take. The video follows the story of a couple, (the same couple from our 'How Far Apart' music video), being subjected to a strange experiment at the hands of a mysterious organisation. Their relationship is engineered to end in repeated failure, and they find themselves unable to prevail, ultimately choosing poison bottles over fighting to escape the cycle."

On the upcoming album, vocalist Ben Jorgensen states:

"We are very excited to share our new album, The Rain Museum. Back in 2020, at the start of the pandemic and at the start of our collective lockdown, I made it my mission to finish writing a concept album that had been in my mind for many years but was never able to bring to life. The Rain Museum was initially a short story I wrote many years ago about a post-apocalyptic Earth and a mysterious museum in the middle of the desert. Weaving the story into an album was going to be my quarantine project.

"Unfortunately, my marriage of nearly eight years and basically my entire life fell apart as I was beginning the writing process. The one thing I had in my life to divert my attention from what I was going through was the creative process of writing that album. But because I couldn’t ignore what I was going through personally, I wound up writing about myself and what I was going through and putting that into the story of the album and into the world I had been creating for this concept record. In the end, it’s an album about facing some of the most painful parts of being human and how lost we can get. I just hope it will speak to people going through their own dark times, as my favourite art certainly helped me get through mine."

'Whatever, Who Cares' is the second single to be released from The Rain Museum, the band’s upcoming full-length that is 17 years in the making. It’s a concept album built around a post-apocalyptic world where weather no longer exists on planet Earth and people come to a mysterious museum in the middle of the desert to look back on what life used to be like. Originally planned as the follow up to What to Do When You Are Dead, the album had been shelved due to “bad advice” leading the band in another direction. Fast forward to the global pandemic of 2020, and the events of the real world encouraged Jorgensen to revisit the concept. The result is a beautiful and devastating 12 song collection that draws upon the best elements of Armor For Sleep’s catalogue while incorporating elevated song-writing and composition. After a fifteen year absence from the studio, The Rain Museum will undoubtedly prove to be well-worth the wait for old and new fans alike.

For The Fallen Dreams release video for new single 'Sulfate'

Metal quintet For The Fallen Dreams have released a video for their new single 'Sulfate', out now via Arising Empire.

Stream/purchase 'Sulfate': https://arisingempire.com/sulfate

Vocalist Chad Ruhlig comments:

"It’s been a welcomed and refreshing challenge to find ways to incorporate new elements into our music after 15 years. 'Sulfate' explores a more mature side of heaviness from For The Fallen Dreams, while still keeping our core elements intact. We look forward to continuing to paint the picture of what to expect from our new album."

'Sulfate' was produced by Jonathan Dolese at Konkrete Studios (Cane Hill), with vocal production duties by Daniel "DL" Laskiewicz (All That Remains, Bad Wolves).

What’s that old saying? “The more things change, the more they stay the same.” When it comes to Michigan-based metal outfit For The Fallen Dreams, perhaps a more fitting - but just as timeless - adage would be “change is the only constant.”

For The Fallen Dreams' career is defined by constant progression and a dedication to refining and rejuvenating their unique brand of aggressive, passionate metal. The five-piece have consistently demonstrated an ability to adapt and evolve their sound and dynamic, despite overwhelming adversity, all without sacrificing the core components of their sound.

Built around explosive breakdowns, gut-wrenching grooves and lyricism that touches on everything from an introspective glimpse into the human condition to brotherhood and camaraderie, these Midwestern masters of metal have made themselves a staple within the international heavy music community.

For The Fallen Dreams formed in 2003, but their story starts in earnest with the release of 2008's Changes - a record that would greatly impact the footprint of heavy music. Following Changes, For The Fallen Dreams went on to release five more remarkable full-length records, from the atmospheric and moody Relentless to chart-topping comeback record Heavy Hearts, which landed at #162 on the Billboard Top 200 and #3 on Billboard Heatseekers lists. Six saw the band venture into more metallic territory, with over 20 million views on YouTube and tens of millions of streams across various streaming platforms.

While For The Fallen Dreams have been through their fair share of changes, one thing has remained constant: their dedication to growth while never failing to deliver primal-yet-emotional music, which has made them a staple in modern metal.

Jim Hocking | guitar & vocals

Borders stream new single 'Suffer'

Single & video streaming now via Arising Empire

UK genre-defying quartet Borders have released their new single / video 'Suffer', the band's third release on Arising Empire.

Watch the video to 'Suffer' here: https://youtu.be/JOMesY3E_F8

Stream here: https://arisingempire.com/suffer

On the single, the band comment: "'Suffer' is a protest anthem about the state of our ruling class, politicians, and the 1% who openly break laws while they face little to no consequences from the police. These same police also power trip through covert prejudice towards people of colour.

"We all want to stand up and do something about it and while it's very easy to 'sit back and neglect it' this is a call to arms to stop letting yourself suffer at the hands of the pigs in charge."

Borders combine ferocious, hard-hitting metalcore with elements of hip-hop, grime, hardcore and alternative metal, completed with a dash of introspection and brazen, no-holds-barred atmosphere. The quartet are a young but driven collective hellbent on taking the heavy music community by storm with an onslaught of thought-provoking, sinister and brutally aggressive tracks. Built around an impetus that obliterates any notion of single-genre classification in favour of an immersive yet punishingly heavy experience, Borders continually push the limits of what's expected from any band in the metalcore circuit.

From taking the UK’s live music scene by storm supporting legendary deathcore act Martyr Defiled on their last run to their immersive, conceptual and thought-provoking 2019 debut full length release Purify, the band are well on their way to making themselves a staple in the underground heavy music community - a goal sure to be achieved with their addition to Arising Empire’s ever-growing roster.

Texan death-thrashers I AM stream new single

'Surrender To The Blade' video streaming now

Eternal Steel out 9th September via MNRK Heavy

Texas thrash-death unit I AM have unleashed their new single 'Surrender To The Blade', the second track taken from their Eternal Steel full-length, out 9th September via MNRK Heavy.

Watch the video to 'Surrender To The Blade' here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTn4xIFZUJ8

Across three full-length slabs of bludgeoning intensity and snarling rage, I AM put a Southern stamp and revitalised swagger into deathcore, a subgenre rarely as raw, energised, and diverse as this band. In the spirit of fellow Southern icons Pantera and newer Texan heroes Power Trip, the band channel discontent and anger into empowering anthems, as likely to inspire a gruelling workout as to incite the pit. Reminiscent of the combination of death metal heaviness and thrash metal speed found in the early catalogue of Sepultura, I AM mine the heaviness of Morbid Angel and the dexterity of the Big Four to create something ground-breaking of their own.

Guitarist Tom Reyes comments on 'Surrender To The Blade': “When I sat down and that first riff came out, immediately the idea was to just make a metal head banging anthem. Nothing flashy or complex, we just wanted it to sound huge and capture a good groove. [First single] ‘The Iron Gate’ was a newer direction for us, so with each step in that direction, we wanted to compliment a twist on our heavy roots. Actually, the verse riff was meant for a song on Hard 2 Kill -- hats off to anyone who can guess which one -- but it ended up being a much better fit for this song. Then [founding vocalist] Andrew [Hileman]’s lyrical concept fit perfectly with the instrumental. You hear the first riff and it’s a no brainer; it’s a raising-your-sword-for-battle-type of anthem.”

Watch previous video 'The Iron Gate' here: https://youtu.be/GgzIQ3-zZno

Brandishing a unique blend of furious thrash and death metal like a weapon of mass destruction, I AM are purely no-nonsense in their patented “Texas Death” assault. Armed with riffs, speed, and overwhelming power, I AM writes songs that make you want to move” (Decibel Magazine).

Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Randy Leboeuf (Kublai Khan, Sentinels, The Acacia Strain), Eternal Steel, the quintet’s debut for MNRK Heavy, combines the onslaught of the band’s well-received Hard 2 Kill (2018) with the primal bite of Life Through Torment (2017) into a singular statement of intent.

Pre-order Eternal Steel on CD, cassette and vinyl here: http://iam-eternalsteel.com/

I AM have earned a reputation for devastation in the live environment, converting doubters and curious onlookers alike into diehard believers with sweat and determination. And across the two most recent records, they established themselves as a band who never writes the same song twice.

“You won’t mistake one track for another,” Reyes assures. “Not in a way that sounds scattered or disorganized. It’s just that we have a range within our sound. We exercise free rein creatively.”

Eternal Steel songs like 'Iron Gate,' 'Infernal Panther,' 'Queen Incarnate,' and the title track are demonstrative of the diverse extremes on offer. Menacing moods, blistering thrash, and crushing death collide all over the record. The lyrics harness the power of dark subject matter in ways that serve and inspire the listener. “For example, the topic of ‘fear’ is addressed in the song ‘The Primal Wave,’ but in a way where that fear is used to fuel you to overcome obstacles,” Hileman explains.

The death n’ roll groove of Obituary, the street-smart violence of Cro-Mags, it all coalesces into something fresh, exciting, and distinctly I AM. Hearkening to the past of classic metal with a hard shove forward into the future, these guys transcend genre limitations with a sound built to last.

On the choice of song, the band state:

"I first heard 'Duality' when a coworker had a burned CD in the truck at my first ever summer job ,and I listened to it everyday for the whole summer. I was hooked! Since we started Eyes Wide Open we’ve been having discussions about covers and never really got to the point were we found "that" song. But this time we boiled it down to a track that’s been stuck with all of us and it just felt right! We had a great time during the recording and hope people will enjoy this tribute."

Based in Karlstad, Sweden, Eyes Wide Open carry the torch on behalf of the Swedish melodic death metal scene. Their sound, which is mixed with modern influences inspired by metalcore, combines catchy melodies, heavy drumming, pumping rhythms and versatile vocals.

Following on from their fourth album, 2019's The Upside Down, Eyes Wide Open's latest record Through Life And Death hits like a juggernaut and paves the road that leads to the top tier of the scene. Lyrically, the album explores depression, greed, betrayal, and every inner demon of the human mind.

Tech-death titans Xenobiotic announce new EP, stream single/video

Hate Monolith EP released 2nd September via Unique Leader

'Autophagia' single/video out now

Tech-death titans Xenobiotic have announced their new EP, Hate Monolith, to be released 2nd September via Unique Leader Records.

The Australian five-piece have also streamed their new single, 'Autophagia', which you can view here: https://youtu.be/G-IvYz4TUeU

Pre-order Hate Monolith here: http://orcd.co/hatemonolith

The band comment: "Hate Monolith is about my discontentment for the state of humanity. When writing for the EP I was going through a lot of anger directed at myself through things I should have changed, but I wanted to lash out at someone other than myself. In my eyes I see humanity as born to kill itself, and it makes me disgusted to be a part of a race I loathe so much."

Xenobiotic are a 5 piece progressive death metal outfit from Perth, Western Australia. As the follow up to their critically acclaimed debut full length, Prometheus, Xenobiotic returned with their earth shatteringly destructive sophomore album Mordrake, unleashed globally through Unique Leader Records.

Mordrake found the group delving further into the bands unrelentingly crushing technical intensity combined with sickening, ruinous atmospherics that has garnered them attention across the world. The new album was a calamitous, almost uncomfortably bleak listen. With Mordrake, Xenobiotic have proven that they are a limitlessly extreme band and not for the feint of heart.

The group said of Mordrake

“This album is more than just an arrangement of music. It is our darkest secrets, our worst fears and our most vivid nightmares. It is everything that casts a shadow over us all."

The 11 track album was recorded and mixed by Matthew Templeman (Make Them Suffer, Voyager) with mastering by Simon Struthers at Forensic Audio. Artwork for the effort was done by Mariusz Lewandowski (Psycroptic, Bell Witch, Fuming Mouth).

Following the release of Mordrake, March 2020, Xenobiotic faced the most unfortunate of circumstance for a band, releasing an album at the start of the COVID pandemic.

While it was a time where the band could not continue on its journey of devastating audiences around the world through touring, Xenobiotic did however sign a partnership with New York based leading international heavy music agency, Extreme Management Group, joining a roster alongside other icons of brutality Suffocation, Cattle Decapitation, Cryptopsy, Origin and more.

During this time the band would not be stopped, continuing to write and record which has led to the band’s new EP, Hate Monolith. Mixed and mastered by renowned Cryptopsy guitarist and producer, Christian Donaldson (Ingested, Beyond Creation, The Agonist) with art by Giannis Nakos at Remedy Design (Suffocation, Evergrey, The Agonist) the EP continues to see Xenobiotic tear open ears with maniacal, emotive and progressive death metal brutality and expansive, darkened soundscapes.

Irish dark metallers Darkest Era release new single/video 'Tithonus'

Wither On The Vine due for release 30th September via Candlelight Records

Irish dark metallers Darkest Era have released their contemplative new single 'Tithonus', inspired by a poem of the same name by Tennyson. It's the second track to be taken from their forthcoming new album, Wither On The Vine, which is set for release on 30th September via Candlelight Records.

Check out new single / video, ‘Tithonus’ here: https://youtu.be/QwNZYJiCsgM
Pre-order the album here: https://darkestera.lnk.to/WitherOnTheVinePR

Guitarist Ade Mulgrew comments: “The lyrics are adapted from the 1859 Tennyson poem of the same name. Based on Greek mythology, it depicts a man who is granted eternal life yet not eternal youth. Cursed to age endlessly while his lover Eos, Goddess of the Dawn, retains youth everlasting. He begins to envy the natural cycle of the living world and the mortality of men. My interpretation is simple; to harvest as much richness of meaning from every moment as possible."

Filmed inside an old industrial brass factory in Belfast, Ireland, director Anaïs Mulgrew explains the video: "The music of Tithonus gave me the vision of an angel in torn drapes, desperately dancing to feel his life-force as it inexorably fades away. And so it tells the story before Floodlands, on how a life loving being becomes the ashes in the Mourner’s hands."

Eight years have passed since Darkest Era’s last album, 2014’s Severance. In that time, the Northern Irish-centred band have undergone personal and personnel changes, while the world itself has entered its own new dark era. Now, they are ready to return with third album, Wither On The Vine.

Recorded at Wales’ legendary Foel Studios with producer Chris Fielding (Electric Wizard, Primordial, Winterfylleth, Witchsorrow), it finds the band exploring their shadowy take on the traditional heavy metal sounds of Iron Maiden and Thin Lizzy, whilst incorporating elements of doom, black metal, blackgaze and anything else that casts a musical shadow. Expanding their horizons as to where their sound could go on Withered On The Vine, guitarist Ade Mulgrew says it could best be described as simply “dark metal”.

Speaking on the album, Ade adds: "The album presents a bleak reflection of the world as it stands today; politically, socially, environmentally. Among themes of human tragedy and personal introspection, there are also songs touching on pagan spirituality, the Dionysian perspective and even gothic romance. Stylistically the album mixes black metal and doom metal elements with an almost classic rock sense of tone. We hope the album resonates with listeners seeking music with genuine power and emotional weight, pulling them into its dark visions."

After a long absence, far from withering away, Darkest Era have returned as experts in their craft, and made a definitive dark metal statement.

Krum – Vocals
Ade Mulgrew – Guitar

IV is the band at their creative peak, with all their experience put to use. It’s been almost a decade now since Naxatras first set out from the Greek north to carve out the path fate had set for them.

Since 2012, the group have been honing the rough edges of psychedelic rock, combining heavy riffs, heady soundscapes, astral melodies and a deep appreciation for groove.

IV is - fittingly - the first new music to showcase Naxatras as a quartet. It is a significant departure for the group, already celebrated across Europe for their jamming-based approach to psychedelia. The focus with IV is now more directly on songwriting, musicianship and composition - drawing magic from early 70s prog rock and master songwriters of esoterica.

The new album has gaps that only a keyboard can fill, so Naxatras welcome a new member to the clan: Pantelis Kargas. The whole operation of the band has changed - the previously trademark analogue sound has shifted to a more surgically precise approach, the orchestration multileveled and powerful.

Naxatras' musical imprint began in 2015, with their first album I. Recorded in a single day, the record was a best-selling underground sensation and welcomed with critical acclaim.

Shortly after the band went on their first tour, with live shows in Greece and five neighbouring Balkan countries. The second album - II - followed in 2016, with the same attitude in live performance, live recording, and fully analogue mentality.

However the road proved to be the band's calling - summer 2016 led to Naxatras' first full European tour, sowing the seeds of high anticipation.

An established act with the release of III, 40 more European dates followed, with a firm fanbase in every city on the continent. The album release show in Athens was to more than 1,000 devotees, a sold-out spectacle, and the subsequent tours included performances at DesertfestRock Im WaidDuna JamOzora and a series of appearances in Australia.

Naxatras are:

Pantelis Kargas - Keyboards and Synthesizers
