UK progressive metal juggernauts, Exist Immortal, return with their new single 'Flare'. The track is taken from the quintet's upcoming full-length, self-titled album due 14th October via Seek and Strike.

On the new single, vocalist Meyrick de la Fuente states:

"Our new single ‘Flare’ is a rallying call to anyone who has simply had enough. We are all fed up of things we’ve seen over the past few years and we won’t be afraid to join together with others and fight back. The song signals a return to our heavier roots, but brings together all the aspects we have explored over our last couple of releases. It came together as one of the first songs for this new album and it was clear that it would be a guiding light for how the rest of the songs would turn out and grow during the writing process. We are EXIM and this is who we are. We are for everyone who wants to join us on this journey."

On the upcoming full-length album, the band comment:

"We are very excited to present our latest, self-titled, full length album. For us this is a culmination of a lot of work, building and evolving. We bring back a lot of the heavier elements from our older releases while keeping a lot of the aesthetics and layers from Triptych. As musicians we have always struggled with where to place ourselves amongst our peers and always written music we wanted to make over intentionally fitting into existing trends. We feel that this album is by far our most accomplished and self-assured record to date, reincorporating harsh vocals while exploring new territory on the guitar side of things."

In celebration of the album's release date, Exist Immortal will be embarking on a string of UK-based tour dates, including a headline set in Camden's intimate Black Heart on release day.

"We are bringing our biggest and best headline show we have ever toured with us and will be playing new songs alongside fan favourites, so old and new fans alike will experience something fresh. Our new record is set for an 14th October release, which we feel is easily our best work to date drawing influence from our entire back catalogue of music into the most refined, truest version of EXIM. This London show will be the official launch party of the new album and we are so excited that this show and iconic venue will be the very first time this new era is brought into the world."

Full tour dates below:
14.10 - London, Black Heart
26.10 - Bristol, Crofters Rights
27.10 - Sheffield, Corporation
28.10 - Newcastle, Head Of Steam
29.10 - Birmingham, Scruffy Murphy’s
30.10 - Southampton, Suburbia

Hailing from the Southeast of England, Exist Immortal combine metalcore and technical metal with pop influences. Having spent the last few years touring across the UK and Europe developing their sound and growing their fanbase, they’ve left a lasting impact on their audiences with their powerful live shows. Fresh off their recent headline performance at UK Tech Fest (UK) and other appearances at the likes of Metaldays (SLOV), Euroblast (GER), Maximum Rock (ROM) and tours with high profile acts such as Sikth, Textures and Landmvrks, Exist Immortal are ready to release their follow up to 2021’s three-part release Triptych. Released on Seek and Strike Records, Triptych received much critical acclaim including parts two and three being nominated for Progspace EP of the Year 2021, cementing the band as one of the hottest acts in the progressive metal/metalcore scene.

Face the Day tackle heartbreak with new single and music video for 'Entangled Souls'

Echoes of the Child's Mind album due 22nd September

Czech Republic-based alternative rock band Face the Day have released a music video for their brand new single 'Entangled Souls'. The track, with lyrical content tackling the topic of heartbreak, is taken from the band's upcoming album Echoes of the Child's Mind, due for release 22nd September 2022.

Watch the video to 'Entangled Souls' here: https://youtu.be/8PVwIzlvEWk

On the new single, vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Martin Schuster states:

"The song speaks of a strong bond between two people which was tragically broken, yet the remaining person believes that it still prevails on a non-physical level. They lose touch with reality and dive deep into the past, back when 'everything was fine'. The only thing keeping them alive is the belief that one day they will meet again."

On Echoes of the Child's Mind, Schuster comments:

"Without a doubt, Echoes of the Child‘s Mind is the most complete achievement of my musical journey to date. It incorporates multiple musical genres, spanning from instrumental post-rock to art rock, while paying homage to some classic album-oriented masterpieces of the 1970s. Although it is not a concept album, a certain theme of loss, grief and melancholy is ever present throughout its 38-minute running time. In fact, the album was conducted under the circumstances of losing my mother, who passed away in 2019, and is dedicated to her memory."

Founded in 2015 by Martin Schuster, frontman of Czech prog-metal outfit Mindwork, Face The Day was originally thought of as a side project. However, as Schuster began finding true inspiration in this new venture, he quickly gathered enough material to release two albums, Corroding Dreams and Stuck in The Present, in 2016 and 2018 respectively. Finding themselves compared to the likes of Pink Floyd, Mogwai and Porcupine Tree, the band - composed of Schuster on guitar and vocals and supported by Mindwork’s rhythm section - received some exciting press attention and embarked on a national tour of Czech Republic in support of Stuck in the Present.

During a short hiatus in 2019 brought on by Mindwork going on tour, Schuster kept writing for his “side project”. These songs, influenced by his mother’s passing, came to form Face The Day’s upcoming album Echoes of The Child’s Mind. The band’s third album is due to be released on 22nd September 2022, with lead single ‘Entangled Souls’ seeing the light of day on 19th August.

MØL release stunning new video 'Tvesind'

Photo: Cornelius Qvist

Appearing Main Stage at Arctangent Festival Friday 19th August

EU/UK tour with Crippled Black Phoenix from next week

Danish blackgaze masters MØL have released a stunning new video for their song 'Tvesind', which is taken from their critically acclaimed masterpiece Diorama which came out on Nuclear Blast in 2021.

Watch the video for 'Tvesind' here: https://youtu.be/diHh9lHJdmE
Listen to Diorama here: https://møl.bfan.link/diorama

For MØL's frontman Kim Song Sternkopf, Diorama is much more than an epitaph to his faith and childhood trauma. It’s a direct letter to those closest to him, communicating the scale of the hurt he feels in ways he couldn’t otherwise articulate. That’s why the album’s closing duology, 'Tvesind' and the title track 'Diorama'—described as containing the most personal lyrics on there—are in Danish. They’re for Sternkopf’s confidantes, not the metal masses, he explained in an interview for Stereoboard.

Kim comments: “I got to have some profound conversations with my father that I wouldn’t have had if I didn’t get to write this. Sometimes it’s difficult to talk to people and say, ‘You did something really wrong to me,’ but if you have it on paper, a song or movie or something to speak out from, there’s something we can examine from different angles. That’s where the title Diorama comes in. Despite the odds being against us, I believe there’s a lot of hope because I’ve found a way to talk to them.”

Kim continues: "We have been very fortunate to be working with British director/editor John Bradburn who conjured up some amazing work with excellent videos for both Deafheaven on 'In Blur' and Emma Ruth Rundle on 'Blooms of Oblivion'. He has treated the heavy subject matters of the album with the utmost respect and a razor-sharp eye for aesthetics that we believe should accompany all of our music."

MØL are appearing at Arctangent Festival on Friday 19th Aug on the Main Stage before kicking off their long-awaited EU/UK tour together with Crippled Black Phoenix and Impure Wilhelmena. You can see the band live in the following cities:

Undeniably one of the most exciting and unique groups to set the metal landscape alight in recent years, MØL mix elements of black metal with the contrasting sub-genre of shoegaze. Meandering dreamy soundscapes intertwine with hellspawn vocal rasps and lush melodies to create an exceptional collision of beauty and wretchedness.

Inspired by bands such as My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Drop Nineteens, Lantlôs and Alcest, MØL released their self-titled debut EP in 2014. A year later they perfected their sound with their second EP II, produced by Jacob Bredahl and released in 2015. Both EPs were well received and drove them on to do some emphatic live shows which were praised by press. In 2018, MØL made an international breakthrough signing with Holy Roar Records (UK) who released their debut album Jord to worldwide critical acclaim. The record was recorded at Grapehouse Studios and mixed and mastered by Chris Kreutzfeldt. The album was also released as an instrumental version and in 2019, the band re-released their two first EPs, remastered for CD and vinyl.

In November 2021 MØL returned with their second studio album, Diorama, the group’s first for Nuclear Blast Records. Recorded and mixed by Tue Madsen (Gojira, Meshuggah, Heaven Shall Burn), the album once again captivated critics worldwide.

Epic doom legends Candlemass announce new album, Sweet Evil Sun

Sweet Evil Sun to be released 18th November via Napalm Records

First single 'Scandinavian Gods' and official music video out now!

Swedish godfathers of epic doom metal, Candlemass, have returned to continue their unmatched legacy. With their new album, Sweet Evil Sun, out 18th November via Napalm Records, they are ready to prove once again that they reign as one of the heaviest bands on earth, bringing their fabled doom to the world of metal.

Alongside the new album’s pre-order kickoff, Candlemass - purveyors of legendary albums like Epicus Doomicus Metallicus and Nightfall - have released a monumental new single and video, 'Scandinavian Gods', kicking things off with a hammer blow. The single and video stomp in with a dark, Nordic metal chant driven by slow and heavy drums, droning guitars and majestic vocals that convey mysterious tales of Scandinavian mythology to the next generation.

Watch the new video 'Scandinavian Gods' here: https://youtu.be/rIdEdZ9i-x8
Pre-order Sweet Evil Sun now: https://napalmrecords.com/candlemass

Candlemass' driving force Leif Edling on 'Scandinavian Gods': “'Scandinavian Gods' is Slayer meets Queen and Judas Priest! It's about heritage and future and the fact that it is sometimes absolutely necessary to leave or at least doubt your old gods. It's about the hardship in this, and the irony in the fact that you see yourself being drawn back to them over and over again, into these black circles and the forgetfulness of the past.

"Where do we wanna be? What shall we believe in? Do we need them to build a better future?”

After working on this massive piece of art for eighteen months in total, with Sweet Evil SunCandlemass brings back all the grandness of their early years, exploring themes of ambition and strife, hope and failure. It comes as no surprise that, alongside the band, renowned producer Marcus Jidell captured their massive, smoky guitar tones, powerful drums and larger-than-life vocals, offering a truly unique, high quality sonic experience.

Recorded at NOX studio in Stockholm, Sweden, Sweet Evil Sun impressively showcases that, after almost forty years in the game, the creativity of these Swedish doom masters sees no bounds. Through the power of wall-shaking riffs, incredible vocal performances and the blood and spirit of classic heavy metal, Sweet Evil Sun shines as a masterpiece of impending legend that truly honours the epic doom metal cult of Candlemass.

The artwork for Sweet Evil Sun was illustrated by the skilled hand of Erik Rovanperä, the architect behind Candlemass’ visual style since Psalms for the Dead (2012).

Leif Edling on the new album: Sweet Evil Sun is about hope, striving, adoration and failure. It's about all the personal battles that you have, but also the never-ending decay of humanity.

"The record took over a year to make and there's not a bad track on it! We had a fantastic time recording it and are really looking forward to the release. It's doom, it's metal! It is the essence of Candlemass put into one album!”

Opening track 'Wizard Of The Vortex' instantly casts a spell with a riff so powerful, the listener is immediately ensnared. Title track 'Sweet Evil Sun' kicks in with warning guitar feedback before sludging a heavy-as-hell riff as Johan Langquist deftly warbles through melancholic, beckoning passages and a hooky chorus. His imposing vocals fit each riff and tone perfectly, emerging as an instrument in itself. Jennie-Ann Smith (Avatarium) lends her beautiful voice to the theatrical, grim 'When Death Sighs', creating a shimmering, intermingled chorus duet eventually backed by rising organs and a marching rhythm. The haunting atmosphere is highlighted by an amazing guitar solo that reads like a story as it bends and descends, marking the sign of death on the listener’s door.

Lars Johansson – Lead Guitar
Mappe Björkman – Rhythm Guitar

Blackened hardcore trio Grief Ritual release new single/video 'Telluric'

'Telluric' streaming now

Spiritual Disease EP released 9th September

Grief Ritual are a band sitting at a musical crossroads – caught between blackened metallic hardcore, post-metal, and the heavier, slower sides of black and death metal, Grief Ritual are as heavy and as miserable as their name suggests.

The trio have released their second single 'Telluric', which you can view here: https://youtu.be/VD8SUtanJDw

Stream here: https://linktr.ee/grief_ritual

In the words of the band: "'Telluric' is about how twelve years of Conservative government have decimated the NHS and the wider UK health and social support networks."

The single is another glimpse of Grief Ritual's debut EP, Spiritual Disease - a metaphor for the mental illness brought on by the despotic state of the world - which will be released on 9th September.

Human rights continually stripped away, poverty increasing, inequality propping up the super-wealth of the few: these are the themes which Grief Ritual play on. Spiritual Disease is a haunting listen, grim and cathartic, a twenty-minute release of paralyzing, fearful, angry emotion, reminiscent of END, Leeched, Harms Way, Nails, and early Napalm Death.

Spiritual Disease was recorded with Joe Clayton at No Studio (Pijn, Curse These Metal Hands) in the shadow of Strangeways Prison.

Such a thoughtful approach has already led the young, new band to be described as a “nuanced exploration of caustic catharsis” by The Quietus, as well performing at Bloodstock Open Air and at ArcTanGent x 2000trees crossover event in Summer 2021.

In their brief time as a group, Grief Ritual have already supported Heriot, Heart of a Coward, Knocked Loose, Static Dress, Wiegedood and END. Grief Ritual also made their 2000trees debut this summer, and have recently undertaken a mini-tour with Gutter.

Deep inside your mind it feels like being trapped by our own fears. As fear overtakes more and more, the sun and light vanishes and leaves nothing but darkness. You are caught in a black hole and while you’re struggling, you keep on falling. The longer you fall, the more you get pulled in. The happier you could be, the unhappier you become. Every night you feel the same and cannot escape. So when you put on your disguise, who knows what you are hiding? Deep within ourselves, fear overshadows our happiness. Even when little things are overwhelming, trust me, you’re not alone.

Hailing from Germany, Our Mirage hit your feelings deep. From their ambient music to poignant lyrics that really strike a nerve, this young group are becoming known for the emotion that they pour into their music. On their 2020 album Unseen Relations, released via Arising Empire, Our Mirage delved deeper, using their intuition to focus on relatable problems and struggles that we deal with on a regular basis.

Basement punk/grindcore group Escuela Grind stream new single 'All Is Forgiven'

New album Memory Theater due 30th September via MNRK Heavy

"bursts of unthinkable sonic rage that still manage to keep the listeners rapt with their density and dynamics...Escuela Grind’s misanthropy as enjoyable and intelligent as it is unending." - Kerrang!

"discombobulating drum patterns and staccato guitar chugs...enough force to level an office park." - Revolver

Fast-rising metallic hardcore/grindcore group Escuela Grind have streamed their new single 'All Is Forgiven', taken from their new album, Memory Theater, set for release on 30 September via the band's new label home of MNRK Heavy.

Watch the video for 'All Is Forgiven' here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8I73jI_kQng

Pre-order Memory Theater now here: https://escuelagrind.ffm.to/memorytheater

Described by the band as "a skull cracker", the video for 'All Is Forgiven' is directed by Michael Jari Davidson (Alice in Chains), and blends reality with virtual reality.

Produced by Converge guitarist/ God City producer Kurt Ballou, Escuela Grind's Memory Theater features nine tracks of sharp, scorching underground music that rage and rip in equal measure. Escuela Grind excel at stitching together a new metallic hardcore monster, borne from the rotten corpses of grind and power violence and littered with gleefully unhinged blasts of percussive bombast and chaos.

The music might be terrifying, but the overwhelming spirit behind Escuela Grind is a message of empowerment. As it destroys musical boundaries, the quartet attack the idea of “gatekeeping” with equal ferocity. Any time Katerina Economou (vocals), Jesse Fuentes (drums), Kris Morash (guitar), and Tom Sifuentes (bass, touring) convene, an aural apocalypse will ensue.

Memory Theater, Escuela Grind's sophomore album, is seven minutes shorter than Slayer’s Reign in Blood, but with a few songs running past the three-minute mark, it’s downright epic by grindcore norms. Delivering on the promise of several split records, a handful of EPs (including GGRRIINNDDCCOORREE and PPOOWWEERRVVIIOOLLEENNCCEE, both released in 2020), and the full-length, Indoctrination, the nine songs on Memory Theater offer a near-psychedelic trip to the genre’s soul. The album title references a specific historical concept, constructing a “space” from one’s internal ideas, knowledge, and perception. An architect by trade, Economou explores philosophy, politics, and experiential experimentation, building a kind of structure amidst the band's musical cacophony.

US quartet Of Virtue share 'Cold Blooded' visualiser on EP release day

US metal quartet Of Virtue have unveiled a visualiser for new single 'Cold Blooded', taken from their Sinner EP released today via Arising Empire.

Watch the visualiser to 'Cold Blooded' here: https://youtu.be/cdmnBNvveCk

Stream / Purchase the Sinner EP here: https://ArisingEmpire.lnk.to/SinnerEP

Vocalist / guitarist Damon Tate commented on the Sinner EP: "For us the creative process was one of vulnerability, reflection, and intensity. We were able to dig deeper and go to darker places than ever before - and you'll hear that on this new release compared to anything we've ever done. The next chapter for Of Virtue starts now with the Sinner EP."

Produced by Andrew Baylis (Sleeping With Sirens) & Evan McKeever (VRSTY), mixed and mastered by Dan Braunstein, known for his work for Spiritbox, Dayseeker, Volumes, and visualised by Dana Willax & Orie McGinness (Bad Omens, Wage War, Kingdom of Giants), this blistering new track hits you straight in the face and leaves no doubt that this four-piece is on the cusp of blowing up.

Of Virtue combine an eclectic taste for the melodic with a catchy and ethereal foundation in heavy music, a penchant for punishing breakdowns, and immolating riffs. They define themselves as a multifaceted, diverse and engaging act that draws on influence from metal and alternative music of all genres, to create something that any type of fan can fall in love with.

Progression, or more generally, change, is a constant in music; in order to adapt and survive, you must grow and develop - and no band knows that more than midwestern metal act Of Virtue.
What began as a humble, promising metalcore act born from the blistering chill and barren fields of mid-Michigan, erupted into an internationally recognised and critically acclaimed alternative powerhouse. From opening slots on regional metalcore tours to reaching #28 on Billboard’s Current Hard Music chart, performing in over 30 countries across three continents and accruing a staggering six million streams on Spotify alone, Of Virtue’s growth is nothing short of jaw-dropping.

Of Virtue were formed in 2008 and catapulted themselves into the Michigan metalcore scene in 2009 with their debut EP To Breathe Again. Combining elements of melodic hardcore and metalcore into a mosh-friendly and energetic amalgam, the band almost instantaneously cemented themselves as a staple within their local scene.

In the months that would follow, the band would create and release their debut full-length record, Heartsounds (2011), followed by an extensive regional touring cycle. Heartsounds saw Of Virtue expand on their sound with lyrics speaking of positivity and determination, all of which was underscored by a blend of metalcore that was both vicious yet passionate and inspiring. By 2015, the band would release Salvation, a sprawling and ambitious example of meticulous melodic metalcore which would earn them nationwide attention as a promising, prodigally talented metal act. Shortly thereafter, Of Virtue released their third full length record, What Defines You in 2019.

What Defines You saw a marked incorporation of alternative rock and hard rock into their backbone of bold, robust metalcore with an overwhelmingly positive message. The result was a release that would launch them into the stratosphere of heavy music. Even in the setting of a global pandemic, Of Virtue continue to blossom worldwide, accruing new listeners and fans in countries tens of thousands of miles away and expanding their reach even in a time where live performances were all but impossible.
